How does your media product
represent particular social groups?

What social group does your main
character represent and why?
Our main character represents teenagers and
young adults who are wild and rebellious.
We decided to choose this social group because
usually psychological thrillers aren’t based on
wild and rebellious teenagers so we wanted to
be different and introduce different social
groups into the psychological thriller genre.
How do you represent your character
through mise-en-scene?

How do you represent your character
through the camera shots and editing?
Our main character is represented as vulnerable, weak and scared through the camera
shots and editing.
She is represented as vulnerable through close ups of her face when something drastic
happens. We tried to use a lot of close ups to show her expressions and display her
vulnerability.
We also tried to show her as weak and scared through quick paced editing to create
tension, so the audience could put themselves in the main characters shoes and feel
how she does.
At the end of our opening sequence we used a 360 shot to show the main character as isolated and vulnerable.

Our other character was represented as scary and creepy through camera shots such as close ups and long
shots to show the whole character along with her facial expressions and costume playing a big
part.

Through editing she was shown for a few seconds to build tension and create fear amongst the audience. As we
tried to use a quick pace which was parallel to the music as she got closer to scare the audience. We tried to
show her for fewer seconds to represent her as scary.
How do you represent your character
through the music?
Through the music our main character is represented as a wild child/teenager at the
beginning of the scene as she is listening to diegetic music.
However after that we used calm incidental music to represent her as innocent and
calm. When the girl leaves the house the mood of the music changes and it turns
more mysterious which is how she is represented as you want to know where she is
going.
When the other character appears across the road from her the music begins to get
louder which represents the characters tension and fear.
Towards the end the music used is really tense and scary which represents how scared
the main character is.
The other character is represented as scary and creepy through the music as the
sound effects she is given are boom sounds which are loud and contrast against the
score music. As she appears more the music gets louder and darker. Which represents
her dark character.

  • 1. Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups? Judy Ibelgauptiene Katia Martins Leticia Silva Noor Naoum
  • 2. What social group does your main character represent and why? Our main character represents teenagers and young adults who are wild and rebellious. We decided to choose this social group because usually psychological thrillers aren’t based on wild and rebellious teenagers so we wanted to be different and introduce different social groups into the psychological thriller genre.

  • 6. How do you represent your character through the camera shots and editing? Our main character is represented as vulnerable, weak and scared through the camera shots and editing. She is represented as vulnerable through close ups of her face when something drastic happens. We tried to use a lot of close ups to show her expressions and display her vulnerability. We also tried to show her as weak and scared through quick paced editing to create tension, so the audience could put themselves in the main characters shoes and feel how she does.
  • 7. At the end of our opening sequence we used a 360 shot to show the main character as isolated and vulnerable. (Katherine’s reaction during her 360 spin. Our other character was represented as scary and creepy through camera shots such as close ups and long shots to show the whole character along with her facial expressions and costume playing a big part. (Close up of Kate’s face) (Mid shot of Kate) (Long shot of Kate) Through editing she was shown for a few seconds to build tension and create fear amongst the audience. As we tried to use a quick pace which was parallel to the music as she got closer to scare the audience. We tried to show her for fewer seconds to represent her as scary.
  • 8. How do you represent your character through the music? Through the music our main character is represented as a wild child/teenager at the beginning of the scene as she is listening to diegetic music. However after that we used calm incidental music to represent her as innocent and calm. When the girl leaves the house the mood of the music changes and it turns more mysterious which is how she is represented as you want to know where she is going. When the other character appears across the road from her the music begins to get louder which represents the characters tension and fear. Towards the end the music used is really tense and scary which represents how scared the main character is. The other character is represented as scary and creepy through the music as the sound effects she is given are boom sounds which are loud and contrast against the score music. As she appears more the music gets louder and darker. Which represents her dark character.
