How does your media product
 represent particular social
         groups?
Representation
• There are all kinds of different social
groups in our opening sequence that can
be shown through these following things
• Class and status
• Gender
• Age
• Regional identity
• Ethnicity
• Sexuality
• Ability and disability
The detective (Jonathan)
Set- The room in which I have placed the actor is
very clean and neat we did this so that the
audience can see that Jonathan is wealth as
he is in a wealthy environment.

Costume- His costume also reflects that he is from
the upper class social group, what we were
trying to show the audience that he is a
   professional.

Expression- You can tell he is quite a serious man
from this showing the audience that he is
    good in his job.

Props- The props are folders. We did this so the
audience could see that he is investigating in
    the murder.

Lighting- The lighting is natural, this tells the
audience that the detective isn’t false. That he
is someone who can be relied on.

Blocking- We have placed him in the centre of the
room so that the audience know that he is an
important person from a high social group
    ( upper class, high status.
The victim ( Rosie)
Set- We placed the actor in this location so it
shows the story and gives it a mysterious
edge. we also choice this as it has no social
group to it like there is no graffiti on the
walls or any indication what social
background this character has. We did this
so that it showed that the victim wasn’t
going for certain social groups, it gives the
message that this could happen to anyone.

Costume- Her costume also shows no kind of
social group as the costume is very normal
so it doesn’t show any kind of class. This is
representing the character as an ordinary
   person.

Expression- We made sure that the audience
couldn’t see Rosie's face so it really gave
the audience the sense of anonymous.

Blocking- We have placed her in slightly off from
the middle to show that she is important for
the story but her character isn’t important.
The murderer ( Maison)
Set- The set is a dark garage we did this to show the
character as being a dark cold hearted person.

Costume- We put this character in a dark hoodies to
show the audience a social group as lower class
and a lowe status as people won’t respect him.
They would typically associate with hoodies for
   example a thug.

Expression- We hide his face so that it wouldn’t give
it away to the audience. Also it showed the
character as having no identity they could only
go off certain parts of mis en scene like
costume, setting and props. We did this to show
that those elements would stand out.

Props – The props that are in the background of the
set show what kind of person Maison is. As there
are weapons in the background representing him
as a dangerous/ violent person showing his
social group as maybe part of a gang or
    psychopath.
Gender
From our research it is more effective if we use a
women as the victim. This represented the
women as being weak and showing the men as
more powerful as one of the men in the opening
sequence killed her and the other one is trying to
investigate and get justice and stop the killing.
Also the fact that the men are obviuosly the man
characters in it because they are in more scenes
and in each scene they are being shown as
  strong and active.
Age
All the actors are aged 16 when it was
filmed which I think worked well for the
victim as it showed her as being more
vulnerable, also it kind of worked with the
murder as it added more of a twist and
challenged the audience. But I don’t think
it worked to well with the detective being
that age as most typical detectives are
  much older.
