2. 2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
• In my film there are two characters; the victim and the killer, however, the
killer is never seen.
• The victim is represented as being naive as irresponsible as he decided to
take the short and dangerous path. This was a negative representation of
people of his age group: 17 years old.
• The killer was represented as any other killer in a negative way.
The Killer The Victim
3. QUESTION 2 CONTINUED
• We used the stereotype that killers are dark and cruel people and we chose
to present this in the last scene where we show his room.
• Neither of the characters were represented in a positive way as we thought it
was best to represent them in a negative light as the victim should have been
more careful and should have taken the safe path whereas all killers are
negative.
• We positioned the audience as the killer during the first scene in the park
and the second scene in his room, this gave the audience an insight of what
the killer is like and how he likes to operate.
• This is how it looked:
4. QUESTION 2 CONTINUED
• In my opinion we weren’t trying to create a new specific famous person, we
were just trying to change the way people thought about killers.
• We wanted to show that killers do not go for just females in these situations,
they’re victims are of mixed genders.
• The technical skills that helped construct my representation of the characters
were my use of camera skills as the way we held the camera when showing
the killers view represented his physical and mental state. For example in the
last scene, in the killers room, I didn’t keep the camera steady as the
unsteadiness represented the killers emotions and physicality as there is
something wrong with him causing him to murder people.
5. QUESTION 2 CONTINUED
• I used the blackouts to represent blinks to show the killers emotional state as
his vision was not steady.
• For the victims costume we chose to have him dressed causally as we
thought it best represented a teenager.
• We didn’t use any make up as we wanted to keep the verisimilitude.
