3. Costume
In my opening sequence, costumes was one
of the factors portray the character’s identity
and also symbolized certain things. For
example the main character was wearing a
heavy school bag whilst the bullies were
wearing nothing.This was intentional
because the school bag represents how much
things are on the victims back both mentally
and physically.
4. The two bullies didn’t have any bags on their
backs that represented the fact that they
careless and nothing is on their back because
they simply don’t care abut anything.
5. One of the bullies was wearing a hoody,
which almost agrees with the stereotype
about hoodies.
6. The stereotypes about boys who wear
hoodies appear to be a threat or are in a gang
culture and that’s how we wanted the
character who acted as the bully to be
portrayed.
7. One of the bullies is wearing dark clothing to
represent how evil he was and how cold
hearted he was.
8. Editing
There was place editing to set the tone of the
film. There was so much action going on and
we used slow pace editing to show that. It’
represented how much theVictim was
thinking and the pace of is thoughts.
9. He was thinking about a lot of things. The
long take represented his emotions because
it was showing how fidgety he was moving
and he was.The long take shows how much
he was thinking.
10. Class & Status
There were costumes and positioning that
represented the class and status of the
character. For example one the bullies was
wearing a college ID that indicates to the
audience that they were all college students
even though the location of the film wasn’t at
college.
11. Mise-en-scene
The bullies were taller than the victim. This
portrays the bullies to be very intimidating in
the victim’s perspective. Also the shots that
were taken represented how intimidating
they were.
12. Just before that scene when they were
grabbing him there were tracking shots of the
2 bullies approaching him at intense walking
speed.
13. Sound
Sound was used to set the atmosphere of the
film. The depressing music reflected on how
depressed the victim has been feeling.
14. As the music became more intense so did the
action in the film, that’s when the tracking
shot of the bullies came in.This shows the
audience what they’re about to do and it sets
the atmosphere.
15. The music was there to make the audience
feel sorry for the victim, that’s why the music
was sentimental.
16. Also the tone of the bullies gave an
impression of how the victim was being
treated even thought there wasn’t visuals to
match it. One of them said “why are you
staying at my place” at an aggressive tone to
show how aggressive they are being towards
him.
