What is Infographics? There are lot of phrase around the term Information graphics like "Infographics." "Data visualization." "Information design. & “Communication Design" We're talking about any graphic that displays and explains information, whether that be data or words. When we use the term "data visualization," we're using it as a general term used to describe data presented in a visual way. Why Infographics? Infographics are important because they change the way people find and experience stories especially now, when more and more infographics are being used to augment editorial content on the web. Infographics create a new way of seeing the world of data, and they help communicate complex ideas in a clear and beautiful way.

This was a presentation given by Suzanne McGill, the Senior Graphic Designer at StrataBlue -- a full-service digital marketing agency. The presentation was delivered at the National Association of Bar Executive's Conference in Indianapolis on October 2, 2014. Infographics are very beneficial for many different reasons. They provide great brand recognition and SEO benefits. Whether you’re a butcher, banker or beautician, your business can benefit from the power of infographics. Any company can use this visual tool on social media, and research indicates that infographics assist companies in increasing traffic 12% faster than organizations that don’t use them. Embrace the Visual Marketing Era We’ve learned through science that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual and is processed 60,000 times faster than text. (Maybe it’s time to revisit adding Pinterest, Instagram or Snapchat to your brand’s marketing strategy.) The daunting fact about creating infographics for many marketers is the time investment required. A successful infographic does not exist without data. If it’s time you are worried about investing in an infographic, look back on your past blog posts, case studies or surveys to cut out a majority of the work! You’ve already put in hours, maybe even months’ worth of work, so repurpose the content to be more visually appealing on different platforms. The recent emergence of new forms of geo-social data, deriving from social media, sensors, and mobile phones, calls for an update to the methodological toolbox of social sciences. The new methods and tools need to harmonise with the inherent characteristics and challenges of the emerging data sources. This talk demonstrates how SocialGlass, a web-based system for (real-time) urban analytics, helps improve the understanding of human dynamics in modern-day cities, by capitalising on new geo-social data and pioneering data science techniques. Emphasis is on real-world applications, regarding social area analysis, crowd dynamics during large-scale events, and location prediction of new urban functions across different cities. Various academic disciplines are undergoing enormous conceptual turns that are shifting discussions about technology and media. The first is a turn to the Anthropocene, which recognizes how our current geological epoch is being transformed by human activity, largely driven by anthropocentric technology designed to improve the human condition while at the same time disregarding its impact on living systems. The second turn is towards the material, which refocuses our attention on the material conditions of media, technology and reality. For this presentation, I focus on how the emerging concept of ecomedia combines both of these turns to recalibrate how we approach media studies and technology from an ecocentric perspective. Drawing on a novel analytical framework called the “ecomediasphere,” the presentation demonstrates how technological gadgets can be reconceptualized as boundary objects that impact a variety of “ecomediatones,” such as culture, political economy, materiality and lifeworld. This framework updates the “circuit of culture” approach to technology developed by cultural studies by applying an ecocritical critique to media technology, society and culture.
