2. Overall
• From initial audience research we have found out a lot about what our target
audience wants to see in a particular media product. We have been able to change
ideas In construction so that it is appropriate for them. Not only has this research
played a big role in guiding us to make the best possible product for our audience.
It has told us a lot about other possible target audiences that we had not made a
conscious effort to appeal to. For example from audience research we recognised
that people outside our initial target audience may be interested in our product,
e.g middle age people who use their mobile devices frequently for work.
• Secondly our post production audience feedback has been equally beneficial for
us. By gathering surveys from our focus groups we were able to see that we were
sucessful in many of our aims. For example we could conclude that the quality of
information was high. However we were able to see aspects that could have been
improved in given the chance. So overall I believe our audiene research has been
extremely effective.
3. After watching the five minute opening of the
documentary would you watch the rest of the
film?
Yes
No
When designing our questionnaire we thought it
was extremely important to find out whether the
trailer met its purpose, before asking the
audience about the stylistic content on the
documentary. We were very happy with these
results. 8/10 watched our documentary said they
would have watched the full documentary. This
made us very confident that we had succeeded in
meeting the purpose.
4. From a scale of 1 to 10 how professional do you

We felt that the documentary looking professional
was very important. So through the focus group we
wanted to see whether the audience thought we
had succeeded in this. Although none of our 10
respondents gave 9 or 10 our of ten were still
happy with the feedback of 60% answering 8/10.
However this lead us to further contact our focus
group and asked them what they thought would
have made the documentary score 10/10.
After successfully talking to 5 out of the ten respondents we were given three points that were
mentioned by all five. Firstly all respondents said that Although the sound quality was good
improvements could have been made on the choice of music, they said at points it was to fast pace.
Another point brought up in the focus group was the use of vox-pops, the TA felt that more could have
been incorporated into the trailer. And finally the use of variety of shot types could have been used.
Although we did incorporate a mixture of close up, mid shots and panning. The audience felt an
establishing shot would have been effective. I feel getting this further information from our target
audience has benefited us for the future. R if we were to make improvements on our product.
5. How relevant did you find the information in the
documentary to the topic of mobile phones?
very relevant

irrelevant
don’t know
We were very pleased with the
results from this question. We found
that 9 out of the 10 respondents felt
that the information used in the
documentary was very relevant or
relevant to our topic area. This makes
all the research we had done into our
topic area worthwhile.
From the results from this I have learnt a great deal about what
sort of information our target audience preferred. In our
documentary we used lots of facts, but also information about
the effects of mobile phones usage on people their age. We
found from these results that our viewers felt more involved
because of this

Here we found 60% of our respondents
thought the interviews provided effective
information and opinions. This is a great
result for us. However we wanted to
know specifically why they gave this
answer, so we provided a separate box
for them to answer why, these were
some of the comments we got.
“Specifically the interview with
media teacher nick gave more
personal experience he had,
this I felt interesting.”
“Because I buy a lot of products
From apple, hearing an opinion
from the market leader was
beneficial for me”“It balanced out the
opinions form the vov-
pop to give us a
professional opinion”
7. Did you feel the documentary was educational
in any way? If so why?
• Here we were able to get qualitative data on our documentary. We chose a variety
of answers that gave us insight into what they thought.
“Yes I felt the documentary was very educational as it provided us with a variety of
opinions and facts that balanced the argument” This answer is great, this was our
aim from the start so from the answer we know that our TA was exposed to a
variety of opinions and facts like we wanted.
“Yes it was quite educational, learnt a lot about the dangers of phones and the
evolution of the mobile” Here we can see that our information was correctly
received, as initially we were worried that our TA would get bored with the facts.
“I learnt a lot from the opening 5 minutes of the documentary, And helped me
gain an insight on the dangers of mobile phones” I am happy with this answer as
we took a great deal of time finding out about this topic, and incorporating it into
our documentary
8. If there were aspects of the documentary you
could improve/change , what would they be?
• Here we had a variety of answers, from the type of music used to the length of the
expert interviews. I felt the feedback was useful in pinpointing the areas we could
improve on. For example three respondents mentioned they would have liked to
see more of Siobhan's social experiment. One respondent mentioned that the
length of the expert interview were too long and got a little boring after a while.
And the use of some more archive footage would make it more interesting.
• After listening to the trailer, do you think it clearly informs you about the
purpose of the documentary?
yes
no
We were very happy with this result as it
proves we have achieved a very
important objective, as it was crucial for
us to way up the arguments and answer
the question effectively so the target
audience could learn from it.
9. Do you feel the sound bites taken from the documentary made you want to watch the
documentary, and why?
Do you think the trailer sounds professional?
After listening to our radio trailer, 7 out of
10 thought that it sounded professional.
Although the seems like a high percentage
we believe their were improvements we
could of made, e.g to have used the
documentary music instead of a new file or
more appropriate sound bites.

We then moved on to ask the target
audience about sound and audio quality.
More specifically the sound bites chosen.
We were pleased with the results as
showed that a high majority of the
respondents who listened to the
Documentary trailer said yes. This gave us
great confidence in our editing skills as we
were happy with the sound bites chosen.
10. What aspects of the trailer stood out or made
you want to watch the documentary?
• Here we asked participants to list the aspects of the trailer that stood out, and
made you want to watch the full documentary, here was a range of answers we
had.
Three respondents mentioned the
Archival footage and said the clips
of footage were interesting, and
included people they could
sympathise and relate too.
One respondent said the ‘use of
real media article on mobile phone
crimes’ were interesting and
educational.
The expert interviews with
global company Apple stood
out as it rare for them to be
interviewed.
5 respondents said the social
experiment was the most
interesting aspect of the
trailer and they wanted to
continue watching to know
the outcome
11. Do you think the information was effective in
explaining the purpose of the documentary?
yes
no
don’t know
Here 8 out of ten said yes. This tells
us our trailer was effective in
explaining the purpose of the
documentary. And that the overall
quality of information was high. This
means with have kept the same
standard of information throughout
all three media products.
Much like out documentary section we asked the audience members on the
quality of information used in the trailer in relation to the topic of mobile phones.
Here are the results.
12. Do you think the headline used is appropriate?

Here we decided to take the same
format of questions, and ask the
target audience on how the double
page spread related to out chosen
topic. This enabled us to get a
broader idea of how all media
products linked together through our
topic area. Here we focused on the
specific element: The headline.
It was quite promising to find that 80% of the respondents answered yes, to whether
they thought the headline used is appropriate. Initially we were very confident that our
chosen headline effectively linked to our topic, however having our audience feedback
agree is a great successs.
13. What were your favourite aspects of the double
page spread and why?
the article
the layout
pictures
pull quotes
From the results we were able to
turn the qualitative answers into
quantitative using content analysis.
The pie chart shows the most
common answers given by all 10
participants.
From the respondents answers we were also able to find out specific information on
what they liked best about each feature. For example out of the 5 respondents that
said the article was their favourite aspect 4 mentioned the use of offical statistics on
mobile phones made the article more interesting. However some said that their was
not too much on the page to read. So in future we may use this criticism and adapt
our article by using more photos.
14. On a scale of 1 to 10 how enjoyable did you find
the article to read?
5 people rated it 6/10 for how enjoyable they
found the article to read. Although this is our
lowest score we are still happy with this
result.
Although only 1 of the respondents
gave the article 9/10. we are still happy
with this result and gives us confident
in how our article was written
3 gave our article 7/10 for how
enjoyable they found the
article. The varying in numbers
tells us that our target audience
like different things In an
article.
1 respondent gave 1 our of 10.
although we would have liked
more respondents to give this
result is encourages us to do
further research next time into
what young adults like to see in
