Throughoutthe researchand planningstageswe usedquestionnairestogainfeedbackfromour
audience onhowwe shouldconstructour productand relate itto the targetgroup. Thisgainedvital
informationthatenabledourfinal productstobe completedinanappropriate manner.Togain
feedbackonourfinishedproductswe once againusedquestionnaire togetconsumerfeedbackon
the qualityof our finishedproducts.
Documentary
To begin withwe askedthe consumerthe
question‘whatgenderare you?’thiswas
neededsowe can see howgendereffects
people’sviewsonourdocumentaries
such as stereotypesused.We triedtoget
an evensplitof bothgendershowever
the endresultwasthat we asked a few
more males,thiscouldpotentiallyleadto
a more one sidedview.
We thenalsoaskedthe question‘didit
interestyou?’ thiswasaskedsowe could
see if the documentarywasrelated
enoughtoour target audience tointerest
them.The resultsshow thatthe majority
of ouraudience foundthe documentary
interesting,therefore the conventionwe
followedanddevelopedhave beenused
effectively.Howeverthere issome room
to interestevenmore of ourtarget
audience.
Whenasked‘wouldyouwantto watchthe
restof the documentary’?There were split
answers,the majoritywould,howeverwe
feel we couldhave made the documentary
more interestingandfastpaced.This
wouldenable more people tobe more
likelytowatchthe restof the
documentary.

From the nextquestion‘Diditrelate to
you?’we foundoutthat the documentary
relatedto60% our audience,therefore it
couldbe said we constructedthe
documentaryinan appropriate manner.
However40% suggesteditwasnotrelated
to them,I feel we could have adaptedthe
documentarysoit wasmore appealingto
the youngerage group suchas byusing
more archival footage.

majority(87%) foundourdocumentaryto
be educational aboutmobile phones.This
showsusthat the factsthat we usedwere
appropriate toour targetaudience.

minorityfindinglarge areasfor
improvement. Thisshowsthatthe
upbeatmannerthatwe presenteditin
was suitable forourtargetaudience.
Duringthe makingof our radiotrailerwe
triedto ensure thatitwas enjoyable but
still professional.We asked‘didthe radio
trailersoundprofessional?’tosee if we
achievedthis,we learntthat5 of 15
people onlyfounditsomewhat
professional.Thishighlightthatwe
perhapsfocusedtoomuchon makingit
enjoyable ratherthanthe professional
qualitiesof it.
We foundthe feedbackverypositivefor
the question‘were the snippetsused
fromthe documentaryappropriate?’as
12 of 15 people saiditwasappropriate.
Throughthiswe can conclude thatthe
facts/expertinterviews/vox-popschosen
presentourdocumentarypiece inan
appropriate.

was particularpleasingaswe spent
time producingourownmusicto suit
the consumer.Thisshowsthe guitar
was appropriate forourtarget
audience.

the consistentstyle we were trying

What audiences taught documentary makers

Throughoutthe researchand planningstageswe usedquestionnairestogainfeedbackfromour audience onhowwe shouldconstructour productand relate itto the targetgroup. Thisgainedvital informationthatenabledourfinal productstobe completedinanappropriate manner.Togain feedbackonourfinishedproductswe once againusedquestionnaire togetconsumerfeedbackon the qualityof our finishedproducts. Documentary To begin withwe askedthe consumerthe question‘whatgenderare you?’thiswas neededsowe can see howgendereffects people’sviewsonourdocumentaries such as stereotypesused.We triedtoget an evensplitof bothgendershowever the endresultwasthat we asked a few more males,thiscouldpotentiallyleadto a more one sidedview. We thenalsoaskedthe question‘didit interestyou?’ thiswasaskedsowe could see if the documentarywasrelated enoughtoour target audience tointerest them.The resultsshow thatthe majority of ouraudience foundthe documentary interesting,therefore the conventionwe followedanddevelopedhave beenused effectively.Howeverthere issome room to interestevenmore of ourtarget audience. However40% suggesteditwasnotrelated to them,I feel we could have adaptedthe documentarysoit wasmore appealingto the youngerage group suchas byusing more archival footage. Throughasking‘didyoulearnallotabout mobile phones?’ we learntthatthe majority(87%) foundourdocumentaryto be educational aboutmobile phones.This showsusthat the factsthat we usedwere appropriate toour targetaudience. Our lastquestionwas‘Ona scale of 1-10 howmuch didyouenjoyit(the documentary)?’ Throughthiswe learned mostpeople likedithoweverthere wasstill room forimprovementasfewthoughtour workto be of an outstandingmanner.   • 3. Radio trailer Whenwe asked‘ona scale of 1-10 how enjoyable wasthe radiotrailer?’we got mainlypositivefeedbackwithonlythe minorityfindinglarge areasfor improvement. Thisshowsthatthe upbeatmannerthatwe presenteditin was suitable forourtargetaudience. Duringthe makingof our radiotrailerwe triedto ensure thatitwas enjoyable but still professional.We asked‘didthe radio trailersoundprofessional?’tosee if we achievedthis,we learntthat5 of 15 people onlyfounditsomewhat professional.Thishighlightthatwe perhapsfocusedtoomuchon makingit enjoyable ratherthanthe professional qualitiesof it. We foundthe feedbackverypositivefor the question‘were the snippetsused fromthe documentaryappropriate?’as 12 of 15 people saiditwasappropriate. We thenasked‘diditmake youwant to watch the restof the documentary?’ the resultsof thiswere verymixedwith 8 sayingyesand7 sayingno.We feel thisisa bigissue asit showsthat we didnot advertise ourdocumentaryin an effectiveway.Tocounterthiswe wouldhave totry to make it more interestingmyusingmore keyissues fromthe documentary. On a more positive note fromthe question‘didthe musicfitinwell?’we learntthat the vast majorityof people thoughtthe musicfitted inwell.This was particularpleasingaswe spent time producingourownmusicto suit the consumer.Thisshowsthe guitar was appropriate forourtarget audience. We feel we couldhave made it more informal toappeal to our youngtarget audience. Whenmakingour productwe struggledtoshortenthe ideaswe wantedinan effectivemanner. Consequentlyevenwhenwe altereditthe finishedproductstill had an overall crampedlookabout it.Therefore whenwe askedthe question‘wasthere anappropriate amountof text?’ the majority thoughtwe had,this resultwasnot surprisingandwe wouldneed furtherplanningtosummarise our ideasina shortermanner. Our mostpositive feedbackcame fromthe response to‘wasthere synergyacrossthe three products?’ All butone foundrecognisable aspectsthat were consistentacross our three products,thisshowsthat the consistentstyle we were trying to achieve wassuccessful.
