How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
By Tim Loe
2. C. R. A. G. S.
My Media Production represents the following
(relating to social groups) :
C - Class
R - Race
A - Age
G - Gender
S - Sexuality
3. Class
The audience that would watch my production
would be lower class. Income Bracket C2 – E.
My production aims at this class, as it has a
traditional, simple narrative, and since the lower-
class are stereotypically lower educated it
would appeal to them. The main
characters are also lower class, and the
production involves a struggle for money,
which could be relatable and provide
personal identity to my audience
4. Race
The race of the social group I am representing is
white/British.
This is because my product is a traditional British
crime, which contains appealing features that
can provide social interaction, such as the
weather.
Also my main characters both look British
Costumes (which were hoodies and tracksuits for
the protagonists) also contributed to this look.
5. Age
The age of people who would view my
production would be 18 – 30. This is because
this is the age where you are a student (income
bracket E) with no income, or you may have your
first job (income bracket C2) and have a low
income.
The protagonists of the production looked
relatively old, and close to the ages of my target
audience. The costumes and guns may have
also contributed to this older look.
6. Gender
As my target audience for the production is male
gender. All main characters were male (which
contributed to the traditional conventions of the
film).
It is also traditionally a man’s responsibility to
earn a living, and they can relate to the
protagonists and their struggle for money.
7. Sexuality
Sexuality of my target audience are straight, as
traditional representations of masculinity would
be represented in my production.
These representations where portrayed through
the toughness of the characters, and how their
problems were solved with violence.
