Target 18-34 male audience interested in news and action
1. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
A media product must have a target
audience in which its product aims to
attract. The following presentation is an
audience profile of our film.
2. Age: 18-34
The traditional action movie target age is between 18-54
however, this depends on the type of movie for example, a film
like Mission Impossible III is aimed at an older audience. On the
other hand, other mainstream films are targeted at a younger
target audience. Furthermore, due to the adrenaline rush
associated with action movies, action films are more likely to
target a younger audience. The age of the target market of our
movie is 18-34 because our main protagonist is younger than
usual so therefore we may appeal to a younger market.
3. Gender: Male
Action movies tend to attract a male audience, as opposed to a female
audience, as they are designed for audience escapism and offer an
adrenaline rush in which they wont experience in real life. As well as
this, the portrayal of the protagonist as a hero invited the audience to
be intrigued. For the majority of the time , the lead role is played by a
man and in the few cases were female actors adopt the lead role, their
character is sexualised to maintain the male audience and the
adrenaline is replaced by the male gaze.
4. Interests:
According to audiencetargeting.com (see figure 2) watchers of action
movies are 6.45 times more likely to visit News/Information sites than the
average internet user. As well as this they are also more likely to visit retail/
sports sites than the average user. The target market of this genre tend to
be attracted by the escapism aspect of the genre as well as the adrenaline
rush they experience.

5. A-E class/race
Action movies attract Group B, who consist of teachers and public sector employees, as they are
searching for a form of escape from their normal routine. Similarly the will attract Group E, who
consist of the unemployed, students, Group C1, who consist of Bank clerks and junior
management and Group C2. Action films tend to have a diverse cast to attempt to expand
their potential target market and have a character that everyone can relate to. As well as this,
it makes the situation more realistic as action movies tend to be set in urban cities which are
very multicultural. Political action thrillers tend to attract a more middle class audience
whilst action movies that focus on urban realism such as District 13 attract the working class.
6. Audience: Niche Vs Mass
• Action movies usually make the big headlines with the record-breaking ticket sales but this is
because they have a big budgets, which allows them to target a mass audience and means
that these movies bring in a lot of money. However, our movie may also attract a niche
audience in view of the fact the urban realism aspect is a fairly new aspect in the genre.
