the presentation covers the question related to what, sources, results and harms on human beings, mechanical institutions, steps taken, etc. of AIR POLLUTION

2. WHAT IS AIR POLLUTION?
As per THE AIR (PREVENTION & CONTROL OF POLUTION) ACT,
1981
Air Pollution means the presence of any air pollutant, which can be
any solid, liquid or gaseous substance (including noise) present in the
atmosphere in such concentration as may be injurious to human
being or other living creatures or plants or property or
Environment.
7. -BY SULPHUR DIOXIDE :-
Weakening pulmonary defences, breathing
problems, worsened symptoms in people
that have cardiovascular disease and
respiratory diseases.
-BY NITROGEN DIOXIDE :-
Reduce the body's ability to fight
respiratory infections and
cause lung irritation.
-
8. -BY LEAD :-
Leads to osteoporosis, high blood pressure, kidney disease,
neurological impairments, anaemia, reproductive disorders.
9. -BY OZONE :-
causes major problem which includes cough and
headache, eye, nose and throat Irrigation, chest
discomfort, it reacts rapidly with tissues and
airways lining of lungs.
-BY BENZENE :–
may cause genetic change, chromosomal mutation
and it is recognised as carcinogenic by International
Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to humans
which increases the frequency of cancer in human.
10. -BY CARBON MONOXIDE :-
can lead to various neurological and visual
impairments.
11. INSTITUTIONAL MECHANISMS
Central Level
Ministry of Environment & Forests
Central Pollution Control Board
Environment Pollution Control Authority
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
Ministry of Road Transport & Highways
R&D Centres & other Institutions
State Level
Department of Environment
STATE POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD
Pollution Control Board/Committees
Local Bodies/Authorities
13. Industrial Pollution Control
Use of beneficiated coal (having ash 34%) made
mandatory in Thermal Power Plant.
Closure of hazardous air polluting industries.
For Ex. in 2003 Delhi pollution control committee
ordered immediate closure of 13 polluting industries.
Use of LIGHT DIESEL OIL (LDO) instead of coal in
small boilers.
14. Shifting of highly polluting industries from
(residential area) to (approved industrial area).
Emission standard for Diesel Generator Sets
(Portable and Stationery sets).
15 Years old Commercial Vehicles were phased
out.
Diesel and petrol running Buses and Taxis
phased out and introduced clean fuel (CNG)
Buses and Taxis.
15. MISCELLANEOUS STEPS
Mobile enforcement teams deployed at various locations for
monitoring polluting vehicles and vehicles not having PUC
certificates.
Supply of Improved quality fuel by keeping ban on selling
leaded petrol.
Introduction of low sulphur and benzene content in diesel
and petrol.
Creating awareness among people to use public vehicles
