Lesson Plan On Teaching Language Arts In The Primary ESL Classroom 
Subject : English KSSR Year 3 
Date : 19 September 2013 
Class : 8.00 – 9.00 
Enrolment : 38 pupils 
Theme : World of Knowledge 
Focus skill : Language Art 
Other Skills : Writing and reading. 
Previous Knowledge : Based on previous lesson, pupils have 
learned about food in Year 3 
Learning Outcomes : At the end of the lesson pupils are able to; 
2.2.4 Able to read and understand a paragraph of 
5-8 simple sentences. 
3.3.1 Able to complete ( a ) linear text 
4.1.2 Able to sing action songs, recite jazz chants and 
poems with correct pronunciation, rhythm and 
intonation. 
LESSON OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson , pupils will be able to : 
1. Listen to and allow simple instruction and directions 
accurately 
2. Listen to and sing the song using the correct pronuntiation. 
3. List out 4 verbs from the song 
4. Complete texts with the missing words, phrases or 
sentence.

Language Content : Sentence patterns –Process of making 
salad

  • 1. Lesson Plan On Teaching Language Arts In The Primary ESL Classroom Subject : English KSSR Year 3 Date : 19 September 2013 Class : 8.00 – 9.00 Enrolment : 38 pupils Theme : World of Knowledge Focus skill : Language Art Other Skills : Writing and reading. Previous Knowledge : Based on previous lesson, pupils have learned about food in Year 3 Learning Outcomes : At the end of the lesson pupils are able to; 2.2.4 Able to read and understand a paragraph of 5-8 simple sentences. 3.3.1 Able to complete ( a ) linear text 4.1.2 Able to sing action songs, recite jazz chants and poems with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation. LESSON OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson , pupils will be able to : 1. Listen to and allow simple instruction and directions accurately 2. Listen to and sing the song using the correct pronuntiation. 3. List out 4 verbs from the song 4. Complete texts with the missing words, phrases or sentence. . EDUCATIONAL EMPHASIS : CCTS : Giving and Getting Information Moral values : To keep healthy, cleanliness

Language Content : Sentence patterns –Process of making salad Vocabulary : Verbs ( cut, chop, peel, wash, eat ) Teaching Aids : i) Picture of fruits ii) Word cards iii) Worksheet iv) Song v) Sentence pattern Previous Knowledge : i) Pupils have seen, heard, and read about healthy food in previous year. Set Induction ( 5 minutes) Food Teacher plays a song to the pupils. “ Fruit Salad” - Teacher plays the song to the pupils. - Teacher plays the song twice. - Student's listen to the song on the LCD. ( Appendix 1 ) - Attracting students attention towards the lesson. Step 1 Presentation / Introduction ( 15 minutes ) - Teacher gives lyrics of the song to the pupils. - Teacher gives lyric to the pupils. -Teacher asks pupils to fill in the blanks based on the song that they listen. - Teacher plays the song again. - Pupils listen to the song carefully and fill up all the blanks with the correct answers. - After eliciting answers from the pupils, teacher shows the correct lyrics to the pupils. - Pupils sing the song along the music. - Lyrics of the song “ Fruit Salad” - ( Appendix 2 ) - Lyrics that fill up with the full answers. (Appendix 3 – slide) Step 2 - Teacher puts up the jumble up pictures on process of making the - Teacher puts up a few pictures on how to make fruit - Pictures of making fruit salad.

Practice ( 20 minutes ) fruit salad. salad. - Teacher asks pupils to rearrange the pictures in the correct order. - Pupils arrange the pictures in the correct order. - Teacher checks their answers. ( Appendix 4) - Vocabulary 1) Cut 2) Chop 3) Peel 4) Wash 5) eat Step 3 Production/ Assessment ( 15 minutes ) Making “ Fruit Salad” - Process on how to make a bowl of fruit salad. - Group work. - Teacher asks pupils to sit in group. - Teacher gives an envelope contain the process on how to make fruit salad. - The pupils arrange sentences with the correct pictures to complete the process on making fruit salad.( in group ) - Pupils arrange the sentences and the pictures on the mahjong paper. - Teacher asks for the volunteer to present - their answers. - - Envelope contain sentences on how to make “ Fruit Salad”. ( Appendix 5 ) 1) Peel banana. 2) Toss the grapes 3) Chop some apples 4) Chop some melons Closure ( 5 minutes ) Implementation of the moral values. - Teacher implement the moral values to the pupils.
  • 5. - Teacher implement the moral values. - Teacher tells her pupils to eat the healthy food. - Teacher tells pupils that they should eat the healthy food. - Teacher asks pupils to write the process making of the fruit salad in their exercise book. - Teacher plays the song once again and the pupils sing along while they complete their work - Pupils sing and complete their work.
