 The next few decades will see great changes in the way
energy is supplied and used. In some major oil producing
nations, 'peak oil' has already been reached, and there are
increasing fears of global warming. Consequently, many
countries are focusing on the switch to a low carbon
economy. This transition will lead to major changes in the
supply and use of electricity. Firstly, there will be an
increase in overall demand, as consumers switch from oil
and gas to electricity to power their homes and vehicles.
Secondly, there will be an increase in power generation,
not only in terms of how much is generated, but also how
it is generated, as there is growing electricity generation
from renewable sources. To meet these challenges,
countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This
system aims to provide the electricity industry with a better
understanding of power generation and demand, and to use
this information to create a more efficient power network.

Smart Grid technology basically involves the
application of a computer system to the electricity
network. The computer system can be used to collect
information about supply and demand and improve
engineer's ability to manage the system. With better
information about electricity demand, the network
will be able to increase the amount of electricity
delivered per unit generated, leading to potential
reductions in fuel needs and carbon emissions.
Moreover, the computer system will assist in reducing
operational and maintenance costs.
La tecnología Smart Grid implica básicamente la
aplicación de un sistema informático a la red eléctrica.
El sistema informático puede ser usado para recopilar
información sobre la oferta y la demanda y mejorar la
capacidad del ingeniero para administrar el sistema.
Con mejor información sobre la demanda de
electricidad, la red sería capaz de aumentar la
cantidad de electricidad entregada por unidad
generada, lo que llevará a posibles reducciones en las
necesidades de combustible y las emisiones de
carbono. Además, el sistema informático ayudará a
reducir los costos operativos y de mantenimiento.

Smart Grid technology offers benefits to the
consumer too. They will be able to collect real-time
information on their energy use for each appliance.
Varying tariffs throughout the day will give customers
the incentive to use appliances at times when supply
greatly exceeds demand, leading to great reductions in
bills. For example, they may use their washing
machines at night. Smart meters can also be
connected to the internet or telephone system,
allowing customers to switch appliances on or off
remotely. Furthermore, if houses are fitted with the
apparatus to generate their own power, appliances can
be set to run directly from the on-site power source,
and any excess can be sold to the grid.
La tecnología de red inteligente, también ofrece
beneficios al consumidor. Ellos serán capaces de
recopilar información en tiempo real de su energía
usada para cada electrodoméstico. Diversas tarifas a
lo largo del día, darán a los clientes el incentivo de
usar electrodomésticos a tiempo cuando se suministre
excesos enormemente requeridos, grandes
importantes reducciones en facturas. Por ejemplo,
ellos deben usar sus lavadoras en la noche. Medidores
inteligentes, pueden también ser conectados al
sistema de internet o teléfono, permitiendo a los
clientes encender o apagar remotamente los
electrodomésticos. Además, si las casas están a la
medida con los aparatos para generar su propio poder,
electrodomésticos puede ser un televisor que corre
directamente desde el mismo lugar de la fuente de
poder, y ningún excedente puede ser vendido a la red.

With these changes comes a range of challenges. The first involves
managing the supply and demand. Sources of renewable energy, such as
wind, wave and solar, are notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power,
which is also set to increase as nations switch to alternative energy
sources, is inflexible. With oil and gas, it is relatively simple to increase
the supply of energy to match the increasing demand during peak times
of the day or year. With alternative sources, this is far more difficult, and
may lead to blackouts or system collapse. Potential solutions include
investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and encouraging
consumers to use electricity at off-peak times.A second problem is the
fact that many renewable power generation sources are located in
remote areas, such as windy uplands and coastal regions, where there is
currently a lack of electrical infrastructure. New infrastructures therefore
must be built. Thankfully, with improved smart technology, this can be
done more efficiently by reducing the reinforcement or construction
costs.

Although Smart Technology is still in its infancy, pilot schemes to
promote and test it are already underway. Consumers are currently testing
the new smart meters which can be used in their homes to manage
electricity use. There are also a number of demonstrations being planned
to show how the smart technology could practically work, and trials are in
place to test the new electrical infrastructure. It is likely that technology
will be added in 'layers', starting with 'quick win' methods which will
provide initial carbon savings, to be followed by more advanced systems
at a later date. Cities are prime candidates for investment into smart
energy, due to the high population density and high energy use. It is here
where Smart Technology is likely to be promoted first, utilising a range of
sustainable power sources, transport solutions and an infrastructure for
charging electrically powered vehicles. The infrastructure is already
changing fast. By the year 2050, changes in the energy supply will have
transformed our homes, our roads and our behaviour.
comportamiento.
Task 2-Reflections
 Yamid Rojas:
In this work I was able to identify some difficult words to translate and pronounce as "manage,
maintenance and increase"; These kinds of words are interesting for me because they help me
discover new words and help me use the resources to translate them and find their meaning. Some
resources that I used were "spanishdict, cambridge dictionary and reverse”; resources that are
very important to help to understand complicated words.
Task 2-Reflections
 Anghelo Sanchez:
 During the translation process, I was presented with several problems to try to form some sentences
since they could not understand, so I had to resort to other words and look for a practical way to
change some modalities of the text, but even so I think I achieved it and I also learned new words,
but I find it difficult to write them as growing and renewable
Task 2-Reflections
Tania Sarmiento:
 Every Word has different meaning depending to the context. For instance, words like Grid (in
Spanish is cuadro, cuadricula, red eléctrica, red o rejilla) and switch on or off (in Spanish is
encender o apagar), but if I would remove the connecting “or” the meaning changes to (interruptor).
 The first technique that I used, was read the paragraph and try to understand the main message and
idea. According to Newman, 1988b, (quoted in Ordudari, M., 2007), “Communicative translation: it
attempts to render the exact contextual meaning of the original in such a way that both content and
language are readily acceptable and comprehensible to the readership (1988b: 45-47)”
Task 2-Reflections
Natalia Vizcaino Mican
 In this activity I was able to identify several words, since I practice the language on a daily basis, I
am an English teacher, the text I chose was one of the longest, the words I did not know I searched
in the word reference, I expanded my vocabulary with the reading this paragraph, I would like to
improve my reading, since the text was very extensive and I have many wishes to learn
Task 2-Reflections
Marco Moreno Barrera
I faced some difficulties to translate the text as I didn’t know the meaning for some words, so I used a
translator website to get it done. As translation techniques I leaned on Oblique ones since there are
some expressions that cannot be literally translated. (Bosco G.) and words order needs to be changed
when translating to Spanish, so I used modulation, transposition and adaptation of ideas to get a better
understanding of text in Spanish language.

DIFFERENCE EXAMPLE
METHOD
It is a logical process through which knowledge is obtained; It is also known
as the
logical succession of steps or steps that lead to achieving a predetermined
goal.
Some examples of translation methods are:
 Word by word translation
 Literal translation
 Semantic translation
 Adaptation:
 Free translation
 Idiomatic translation
 Communicative translation
STRATEGY
The strategy is the set of procedures supported by teaching
techniques that aim to bring the didactic action
to a successful conclusion, that is, to achieve the learning objectives.
Some strategy of translation can be:
1. Read all the text in English to understand the general idea and realize how formal the language is.
2. Identify the language of the text (scientific, literary, technical ...) and assess your knowledge on the
subject
TECHNIQUE
It is a procedure or set of rules, norms or protocols, which aim to obtain
a certain result, whether in the field of science, technology, art, education
or any other activity
Some examples of technique of translation are:
 Loan Modulation
 Equivalence Transposition or Replacement
 Adaptation Literal translation
 Expansion
 Reduction
 Compensation
Task 3-Chart
Anghelo Sanchez
METHOD Some authors define the method
as a concrete procedure that is
used, according to the object and
for the purposes of the research,
to promote coherent results. It is
a series of successive steps that
lead to an objective.
Examples
I use the method of translating
small parts and followed by that
one to achieve a better
complement
STRATEGY The concept is also used to refer
to the plan designed to address
an issue and to designate the set
of rules that ensure an optimal
decision at all times.
Examples
Analyze the text, interpret some
unknown words of the language,
look for a strategy to recognize
them and acquire vocabulary
TECHNIQUE try to translate the exact meaning
of the original in the appropriate
context and determined by the
grammatical structures.
Examples
Task 3-Chart
 Tania Sarmiento:
Definition Examples
Method It is a way to developing the strategies and
procedures that help to translate the texts.
The communicative translation, when I
translated the paragraph about smart energy,
I tried to communicate the same idea of the
author and the language was acceptable and
comprehensible to the readership.
Strategy It is a series of competencies, a set of steps
or processes for solving a problem faced in
translating a text and the utilization of
information. There are two types of
strategies, 1. Product relate strategies (What
happens to text?) and 2. Product-relate
strategies (What happens to the process
When we translate the text footnote, without
modify any word.
Technique Is use to translate from one language to
another and re-expresses the message.
Transposition, is a common technique, when
the transposed expression doesn´t have the
same value, but the meaning is the same.
*Reconstruction of the city is very important
*Reconstructing the city is very important
*To reconstruct the city is very important
Task 3-Chart
 Natalhia Vizcaíno Mican:
METHOD The term teaching method refers to
the general principles, pedagogy and
management strategies used for
classroom instruction.
Examples
Direct instruction
Kinesthetic learning
Personalized Learning
Game base learning
Idiomatic translation
STRATEGY It is a planning system applied to a set
of actions, which allows achieving an
objective, serves to obtain certain
results, is flexible.
Examples
An example that I could use to find
out how to explain myself better
would be the strategy used in this
case by a student to perform tasks at
different times and thus finish with a
process, this student has already put
an idea of how to carry out an activity
TECHNIQUE Technique is the set of procedures,
rules, norms or protocols that aims to
obtain a specific and effective result.
Flipped Classroom
Design Thinking
Self-learning
Gamification
Free Online Learning Tools
Task 3-Chart
 Marco Moreno Barrera
METHOD It’s the way the translation of the whole text
is done.
By following the word-for-word translation
method, sense of text may be lost as words are
translated out of context.
STRATEGY It´s the step by step plan designed to translate
a text, as a plan it has actions to overcome
obstacles when translating.
By highlighting unknown words to create a list of
them, then look for them in a dictionary to get
them translated and finally accommodate them to
the context to get a better translated text.
TECHNIQUE It´s the tactic used to translate the text to a
second language.
A fusion of translation techniques is important to
give the text a best connotation and coherence in
the target language.

Colaborative activity

  • 1. Colaborative activity Presented by: Yamid Rojas Anghelo Sanchez Tania Sarmiento Natalia Vizcaino Mican
  • 2. Task 1-Translations PARAGRAPH 1  The next few decades will see great changes in the way energy is supplied and used. In some major oil producing nations, 'peak oil' has already been reached, and there are increasing fears of global warming. Consequently, many countries are focusing on the switch to a low carbon economy. This transition will lead to major changes in the supply and use of electricity. Firstly, there will be an increase in overall demand, as consumers switch from oil and gas to electricity to power their homes and vehicles. Secondly, there will be an increase in power generation, not only in terms of how much is generated, but also how it is generated, as there is growing electricity generation from renewable sources. To meet these challenges, countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This system aims to provide the electricity industry with a better understanding of power generation and demand, and to use this information to create a more efficient power network. ENGLISH ESPANISH • Anghelo sanchez
  • 3. Task 1-Translations  Yamid Rojas: English Spanish PARAGRAPH 2 Smart Grid technology basically involves the application of a computer system to the electricity network. The computer system can be used to collect information about supply and demand and improve engineer's ability to manage the system. With better information about electricity demand, the network will be able to increase the amount of electricity delivered per unit generated, leading to potential reductions in fuel needs and carbon emissions. Moreover, the computer system will assist in reducing operational and maintenance costs.
  • 4. Task 1-Translations  Translator: Tania Sarmiento English Spanish PARAGRAPH 3 Smart Grid technology offers benefits to the consumer too. They will be able to collect real-time information on their energy use for each appliance. Varying tariffs throughout the day will give customers the incentive to use appliances at times when supply greatly exceeds demand, leading to great reductions in bills. For example, they may use their washing machines at night. Smart meters can also be connected to the internet or telephone system, allowing customers to switch appliances on or off remotely. Furthermore, if houses are fitted with the apparatus to generate their own power, appliances can be set to run directly from the on-site power source, and any excess can be sold to the grid.
  • 5. Task 1-Translations  Translator: Natalhia Vizcaino Mican English Spanish PARAGRAPH 4 With these changes comes a range of challenges. The first involves managing the supply and demand. Sources of renewable energy, such as wind, wave and solar, are notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power, which is also set to increase as nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible. With oil and gas, it is relatively simple to increase the supply of energy to match the increasing demand during peak times of the day or year. With alternative sources, this is far more difficult, and may lead to blackouts or system collapse. Potential solutions include investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and encouraging consumers to use electricity at off-peak times.A second problem is the fact that many renewable power generation sources are located in remote areas, such as windy uplands and coastal regions, where there is currently a lack of electrical infrastructure. New infrastructures therefore must be built. Thankfully, with improved smart technology, this can be done more efficiently by reducing the reinforcement or construction costs.
  • 6. Task 1-Translation  Translator: Marco Moreno Barrera English Spanish PARAGRAPH 5 Although Smart Technology is still in its infancy, pilot schemes to promote and test it are already underway. Consumers are currently testing the new smart meters which can be used in their homes to manage electricity use. There are also a number of demonstrations being planned to show how the smart technology could practically work, and trials are in place to test the new electrical infrastructure. It is likely that technology will be added in 'layers', starting with 'quick win' methods which will provide initial carbon savings, to be followed by more advanced systems at a later date. Cities are prime candidates for investment into smart energy, due to the high population density and high energy use. It is here where Smart Technology is likely to be promoted first, utilising a range of sustainable power sources, transport solutions and an infrastructure for charging electrically powered vehicles. The infrastructure is already changing fast. By the year 2050, changes in the energy supply will have transformed our homes, our roads and our behaviour.
  • 7. Task 2-Reflections  Yamid Rojas: In this work I was able to identify some difficult words to translate and pronounce as "manage, maintenance and increase"; These kinds of words are interesting for me because they help me discover new words and help me use the resources to translate them and find their meaning. Some resources that I used were "spanishdict, cambridge dictionary and reverse”; resources that are very important to help to understand complicated words.
  • 8. Task 2-Reflections  Anghelo Sanchez:  During the translation process, I was presented with several problems to try to form some sentences since they could not understand, so I had to resort to other words and look for a practical way to change some modalities of the text, but even so I think I achieved it and I also learned new words, but I find it difficult to write them as growing and renewable
  • 9. Task 2-Reflections Tania Sarmiento:  Every Word has different meaning depending to the context. For instance, words like Grid (in Spanish is cuadro, cuadricula, red eléctrica, red o rejilla) and switch on or off (in Spanish is encender o apagar), but if I would remove the connecting “or” the meaning changes to (interruptor).  The first technique that I used, was read the paragraph and try to understand the main message and idea. According to Newman, 1988b, (quoted in Ordudari, M., 2007), “Communicative translation: it attempts to render the exact contextual meaning of the original in such a way that both content and language are readily acceptable and comprehensible to the readership (1988b: 45-47)”
  • 10. Task 2-Reflections Natalia Vizcaino Mican  In this activity I was able to identify several words, since I practice the language on a daily basis, I am an English teacher, the text I chose was one of the longest, the words I did not know I searched in the word reference, I expanded my vocabulary with the reading this paragraph, I would like to improve my reading, since the text was very extensive and I have many wishes to learn
  • 11. Task 2-Reflections Marco Moreno Barrera I faced some difficulties to translate the text as I didn’t know the meaning for some words, so I used a translator website to get it done. As translation techniques I leaned on Oblique ones since there are some expressions that cannot be literally translated. (Bosco G.) and words order needs to be changed when translating to Spanish, so I used modulation, transposition and adaptation of ideas to get a better understanding of text in Spanish language.
  • 12. Task 3-Chart Yamit Rojas DIFFERENCE EXAMPLE METHOD It is a logical process through which knowledge is obtained; It is also known as the logical succession of steps or steps that lead to achieving a predetermined goal. Some examples of translation methods are:  Word by word translation  Literal translation  Semantic translation  Adaptation:  Free translation  Idiomatic translation  Communicative translation STRATEGY The strategy is the set of procedures supported by teaching techniques that aim to bring the didactic action to a successful conclusion, that is, to achieve the learning objectives. Some strategy of translation can be: 1. Read all the text in English to understand the general idea and realize how formal the language is. 2. Identify the language of the text (scientific, literary, technical ...) and assess your knowledge on the subject TECHNIQUE It is a procedure or set of rules, norms or protocols, which aim to obtain a certain result, whether in the field of science, technology, art, education or any other activity Some examples of technique of translation are:  Loan Modulation  Equivalence Transposition or Replacement  Adaptation Literal translation  Expansion  Reduction  Compensation
  • 13. Task 3-Chart Anghelo Sanchez METHOD Some authors define the method as a concrete procedure that is used, according to the object and for the purposes of the research, to promote coherent results. It is a series of successive steps that lead to an objective. Examples I use the method of translating small parts and followed by that one to achieve a better complement STRATEGY The concept is also used to refer to the plan designed to address an issue and to designate the set of rules that ensure an optimal decision at all times. Examples Analyze the text, interpret some unknown words of the language, look for a strategy to recognize them and acquire vocabulary TECHNIQUE try to translate the exact meaning of the original in the appropriate context and determined by the grammatical structures. Examples
  • 14. Task 3-Chart  Tania Sarmiento: Definition Examples Method It is a way to developing the strategies and procedures that help to translate the texts. The communicative translation, when I translated the paragraph about smart energy, I tried to communicate the same idea of the author and the language was acceptable and comprehensible to the readership. Strategy It is a series of competencies, a set of steps or processes for solving a problem faced in translating a text and the utilization of information. There are two types of strategies, 1. Product relate strategies (What happens to text?) and 2. Product-relate strategies (What happens to the process When we translate the text footnote, without modify any word. Technique Is use to translate from one language to another and re-expresses the message. Transposition, is a common technique, when the transposed expression doesn´t have the same value, but the meaning is the same. *Reconstruction of the city is very important *Reconstructing the city is very important *To reconstruct the city is very important
  • 15. Task 3-Chart  Natalhia Vizcaíno Mican: METHOD The term teaching method refers to the general principles, pedagogy and management strategies used for classroom instruction. Examples Direct instruction Kinesthetic learning Personalized Learning Game base learning Idiomatic translation STRATEGY It is a planning system applied to a set of actions, which allows achieving an objective, serves to obtain certain results, is flexible. Examples An example that I could use to find out how to explain myself better would be the strategy used in this case by a student to perform tasks at different times and thus finish with a process, this student has already put an idea of how to carry out an activity TECHNIQUE Technique is the set of procedures, rules, norms or protocols that aims to obtain a specific and effective result. Flipped Classroom Design Thinking Self-learning Gamification Free Online Learning Tools
  • 16. Task 3-Chart  Marco Moreno Barrera METHOD It’s the way the translation of the whole text is done. By following the word-for-word translation method, sense of text may be lost as words are translated out of context. STRATEGY It´s the step by step plan designed to translate a text, as a plan it has actions to overcome obstacles when translating. By highlighting unknown words to create a list of them, then look for them in a dictionary to get them translated and finally accommodate them to the context to get a better translated text. TECHNIQUE It´s the tactic used to translate the text to a second language. A fusion of translation techniques is important to give the text a best connotation and coherence in the target language.
