This document is a mind map and research for a student's media studies portfolio project on creating an ancillary product for the TV show Coronation Street. It provides background on the show such as its origin, air times, and target working class audience. It also includes potential name ideas and images needed for a poster promoting a new series. The mind map discusses using terminology that catches the eye, social media promotions, and compiling character images and reviews in Photoshop.

2. Source of Inspiration
History of the Product – first aired on the 9th of December 1960 at 7pm.
The show typically airs six times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30PM – 8PM
and 8:30 – 9PM.
However, these times and dates can be cancelled for other shows (E.G: football, original
dramas, etc)
Publisher – Granada Television
Socio-Economic Needs – The primary socio-economic needs of the target audience primarily
consist of C2 and D as these two classes relate more to the working class.
The reason Coronation street traditionally gathers a working class audience is because the
characters portrayed are usually of the same class.
4. Images needed
• Main image – Medium close ups of essential
the antagonist over the other character’s
either sides of the page.
• Locations – Brick walls and alley ways, Cul de
sacs and sign posts for the road (Chalk Lane)
as well as featured locations in the trailer.
• Medium shots – Two characters, one entering
a car and one holding a knife.
5. Language/price
• I used terminology and language that is eye
catching and easy to understand, while also using
fonts and colours that made them stand out from
the page.
• An example of this is the use of “An all new
Series” in a large White font positioned above the
main image.
• The connotations make the statement have more
emphasis and impact in this bold format.
6. Synergy (social media)
• I used social media services like Instagram,
Twitter and Facebook as promotions on the
bottom right of the poster.
• I also used a tag (#CHALKLANE) under the
masthead as a way to promote the magazine
and it’s promotional website through social
media.
7. Mind Map - Conclusion
• I need to take images of each of the
characters in the soap opera tr, add
critical praises as well as a
• The softwares I am going to use are
Adobe Photoshop as I can use it to
compile all of my images I am going to
use.
