The document provides information about codes and conventions of generic real-life magazines, Time Magazine, and the target audience's preferences. It analyzes design elements like the masthead, headlines, images. Based on research finding that the target audience prefers Time's more sophisticated style, the document proposes a magazine combining aspects of both—Time's simple layout with punchy headlines from real-life magazines. Two mockups apply these codes and the document outlines ideas for the hybrid magazine's name, style, and visual elements.
3. Codes and Conventions-For Generic real-life
Magazine
• Media Language - Representation - Ideology - Target Audience
• Masthead (title)- very big and bold, Always has a bright colour behind it to

appealing to the target audience.
• Feature lines/Slogans- Short and punchy, Claim they are the 'BEST' or
'NO.1' magazine in their genre.
• Headlines- Cliffhangers, often very extreme, accompanied by a picture to
give some emotion to it, draws target audience into reading.
• Price/barcode- In the corner or in empty space, As small as possible

• Cover image- Smiling, pretty woman that gives direct mode of address to
give off a friendly looking vibe towards target audience to entice them to
read it, Features lots of other images on the page relating to other
headlines. Manily high key lighting
4. Audience research
• I Did some research on my target audience and asked them some
questions about the dominant magazines in the real-life genre. I came
to the conclusion that lots of target audience don’t like the
loud, extreme stories and layout of the Magazines (Previous slides)
and instead prefer the more subtle and sophisticated feel of a
magazine such as Time Magazine (Next slide). So, I intend to make a
combination of the two and draw aspects I like from each magazine
to form my version of the two.
