• How is it postmodern?
• I = Green Lantern, People Magazine
• I (parody) = mocking the genre (funny), the credits (mocking and challenging the typical conventions of these and aspects of the genre)
• Cynical = identifies the ‘negative’ stuff/conventions of the genre SR = RR in the magazine and the generic conventions
• J = contrapuntal music with the action/violence, H/A = the CGI
• N/NNNO = typical conventions of the genre (it’s based on the comic)
• S/P = the acknowledgment of the failure of the Green Latern (because he played both characters)
• How does it challenge traditional theories of representation?
• It’s challenging the conventions of the genre (ie the ‘hot chick’, ‘CGI character’ etc. (in some ways it’s reinforcing (it’s ironic as not showing names), in other ways it’s challenging)
• How does it compare to other film openings?
• More humorous (ie ‘hello kitty’ and music, the wedgie, the characters head in his crotch)
• The credits – no names
• How does it compare to other action/superhero films?
• Still/long shot instead of lots of action (ironically similar – satire)
• Overly CGI is intentional – it’s a critique/comment
• Self-reflexivity

• Highlighting the flaws of the conventions of the genre (because of the over-prectibility of the characters)
• Undermining the seriousness of the nature in the film (ie. Violence – glamourising)
• From a marketing POV, it is just trying to sell audiences something different because of the lack of interest/overuse of the subgenre
• Undermining other films -age (who is it aimed out – too mature of content?)

• It’s challenging the industry because it makes the audience QUESTION the very nature of the conventions of the genre (for example the overuse of typical characters) and therefore it makes you
question the industry
