3. Technology used.
Before filming our thriller, we had to make the decision of what we were going to use
to film our thriller. We had to decide between a JVC Everio camcorder, and a Nikon
digital camera D5100 (DSLR) with an 18-55mm lens. In the end, we decided to use the
Nikon camera, as we used the JVC camcorder for our preliminary task, however the
quality wasn't great, and therefore we felt that the Nikon would be the best option.
Also, we hadn't used the Nikon at great length before, and this gave us the
opportunity to experiment and use new equipment.
However, with this in mind, we had many issues with the Nikon, such as it wouldn't
focus, resulting in a blurry clip. The camera, when filming, made a clicking sound,
which we couldn't remove. This effected our clips, and therefore we ended up using
an iPhone 5c to film with. Despite this being a phone, the camera quality was almost
identical to the Nikon, and therefore didn't affect our film in any way. It was also
easier to use, and produced good quality footage.
By being able to use a phone to film most of our footage, it demonstrates to us how
technology has advanced, as a phone can do the same, if not more than a camera
when it comes to filming and taking photographs.
4. New Technological Skills.
During the process of filming, I developed a number of new skills. Whilst I had a small
amount of knowledge of how to use Adobe Premiere Pro, I have developed skills such
as being able to add a transition to a clip, and edit much more precisely. Whilst
another member of my group did the majority of the editing by choice, when she was
absent, or needed help, I felt confident enough in being able to edit to make a
successful thriller.
I also used learnt how to use Mixcraft, which is a software designed to create your
own soundtrack. I mainly created the music to our film meaning I have a good
understanding of the software, however, the other group members gave opinions on
which sounds they wanted in the soundtrack.
I learnt how to use multiple different websites during the process of filming, in order
to build my blog. I learnt how to use, Blogger, Prezi, Voki, Slideshare and Bubbl.us.
For most of the softwares and technologies I used, I didn't know how to use them
before, and therefore I just learnt how to use them as i went along. However, I found
Adobe Premiere Pro more difficult to understand, and therefore, the first time I used
it, I had to watch youtube videos, and ask my teacher for help.
