The Autodefensa Movement In Mexico
In general, the autodefensa movement in Mexico's western state of MichoacГЎn was an impressive reaction towards organized crime. The autodefensa
movement is a vigilante self–defense groups that were brought together in MichoacГЎn to fight against the Caballeros Templarios cartel. The people of
MichoacГЎn were sick of the violence, extortions, and how the local and state government were indirectly involved with the drug cartel. The person I
interviewed was Ivan who was involved in the autodefensa movement in Tepalcatepec, MichoacГЎn. When I conducted the interview through the
phone with Ivan since he was still in Mexico, his responses to the questions such as why you joined the movement were plain, but you can notice in
his voice a sense of pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nazario made a bible with his own words and hesitated that his sicarios and traffickers didn't used the drugs that they sold. The rest of the leaders of
the Familia Michoacana were Jesus Mendez Vargas known as "El Chango" from El Aguaje, MichoacГЎn, Servando Gomez Martinez better known as
"La Tuta" from Arteaga, MichoacГЎn, and Enrique Plancarte Solis known as "El Kike" from Nueva Italia, MichoacГЎn. La Familia Michoacana were
known to be really violent. The Familia Michoacana cartel members used murder and torture to suppress other drug cartels, while building a social
base in the Mexican state of MichoacГЎn. The Familia Michoacana was a religious cult–like Drug Cartel Organization that celebrated family values.
For example, in an event that took place in Uruapan in September 2006, the cartel members tossed five severed heads onto the dance floor of the Sol
y Sombra night club along with a message that read: "The Family doesn't kill for money. It doesn't kill women. It doesn't kill innocent people, only
those who deserve to die. Know that this is divine justice." This examples comes to prove that the Familia Michoacana want to publicize an

A Personal Narrative Essay : Welcome To Madrid
It was a perfect day, not even the noise alarm couldn't take my smiling face away. When I was getting ready it looked like the time was passing in
slow motion, the only thing that I could think was that this week it was going to be the most amazing week ever. Finally we all got ready, you
could see the happiness in our eyes as we start our way to the massive airport. There it was in front of us we still couldn't believe that our sweet
dream was just ten hours away from us. The plane wasn't the most comfortable but in that moment you don't look to does small details. In my mind I
was thinking about every possible thing I could do when I get there, I was thinking about all the beauties that those marvelous cities across the world
could show us, and suddenly the moment came when the pilot said Welcome to Madrid Spain.
We couldn't believe what we saw it was like another complete world, like we were in a different dimension. As soon as we got there we just forgot
about how tired we were or if we didn't sleep that much we just wanted to see every small detail of this enormous city. Every structure looked like
thousand or even millions years ago it was just admirable. Millions of people every day were walking in streets that look that don't have an end. We
stay in Madrid for three days and we walked more that days that ever in our lives, it looked like we were in a marathon. We see splendid structures like

The Sagrada Familia
"The Temple [of The Sagrada FamГlia] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with everything destined to have a long life. Hundred–year–old
oak trees take many years to grow tall; on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no more to be
said"1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life–long work, Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely
long time needed for the construction of the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature in his
designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple's eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123

of St. Joseph and various citizens and contributors. On the first stone was inscribed the words, "Awaken indifferent hearts from their slumber. Exalt the
faith. Promote charity. Invoke the Lord to have mercy on this country, and encourage by its Catholic roots to think, preach and practice virtue."1 The
first architect of the project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo–gothic structure. Less than a year into the
project, the budget again played a role in the future of the Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use
ashlar columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started
arguments with the Foundation, who criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned because he was
not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation
and Gaudi were equally excited to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a masterpiece they were
destined to create.
Gaudi's plans adapted the work begun by de Villar

The City Of La Sagrada Familia
3.2 Inspiration In Barcelona. The university is located in a very diverse part of the city with a lot of historical heritage, which will become very
inspirational through designing while here. Barcelona is known for its quirkiness, cool character and cosmopolitan as a city but also known for its
historical and contemporary architecture, local festivals and art museums. The two main sources of inspiration are: Sagrada Familia – "The expiatory
church of La Sagrada FamГlia is a work on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de
Paula del Villar (1828–1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudi was commissioned to carry on the works, a task that he did not abandon until his death in
1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea." (Sagrada Familia 2015) This is a fantastic piece of on going
architecture and the interior lives up to the exterior as well. It basically shows what Barcelona if as a city. Having been here before it has always been
a source of inspiration. Esglesia Se Santa Maria – "14th century Catalan Gothic architecture has a strong personality. Particularly outstanding is the
sober horizontal– structure of its buildings. A strong case can be made that the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar is the clearest example of this type of
building in Barcelona throughout the fourteenth century." (Santa Maria De Santa 2015) From looking and research at imagery online and reading

In The Film “Mi Familia,” We Follow The Story Of The...
In the film "Mi Familia," we follow the story of the Mexican–American SГЎnchez family who settled in East Los Angeles, California after
immigrating to the United States. Gregory Nava and Anna Thomas introduce the story of this family in several contexts that are developed along
generations. These generations hold significant historical periods that form the identity of each individual member of the family. We start off by
exploring the immigrant experience as the family patriarch heads north to Los Angeles, later we see how national events like the great depression
directly impact Maria as she gets deported, although she was a US citizen. The events that follow further oppress this family and begins separate
identity formations. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two characters showed significant psychological work in hopes of changing their "problematic" social identity. Both of these characters were
conscious of the stigmas that surrounded their identities, each, however, had distinct ways in which they dealt with those stigmas and changing their
meanings as they grew older. Many would say that the way in which they were able to transform their identities meant either embracing it or
denying one's own identity fully as the film progressed and new societal pressures arose. Toni was one of two daughters of Maria and Jose; she was
the youngest daughter. Growing up Toni was constantly praised for her beauty and throughout the film, she was hypersexualized by the people in her
community. Being a beautiful Latina woman put her into categories and set expectations for her. Her sister was already married and being the only
other daughter she was expected to be next anytime soon. In hopes of gaining respect and relieving the pressures of being a woman in her community,
Toni decided she would become a nun. During her time abroad as a nun, she found a passion for activism and met someone she had fallen in love with.
Although she was committed to the church, she was not able to freely love and continue her mission to do justice, therefore she left the church. Toni
was brave, strong, and smart. At the time, however, many did not see her and her actions in that way. People dismissed the good that she was doing

U.s. Department Of The Criminal Justice Field
In my Special Topics in Geography course, the instructor Dr. Hilburn had assigned my peers and I to do a map of anything that interests us by
applying all the skills and knowledge that we have learned during the semester. During my research of opting of what should I do my map about I
focused myself within the study field in which I am majoring so, I started researching anything that is related to the criminal justice field. A key factor
that helped me determined what should the topic of my map focus on was the notion that I live in a border town that is next to Mexico. Eventually, I
decided to do a map that will focus at a state level on the territories within Mexico that transnational criminal organizations have a dominant influence.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center, drug cartels can be define as "...large, highly sophisticated
organizations composed of multiple [Drug Trafficking Organizations] DTOs and cells with specific assignments such as drug transportation, security
/enforcement, or money laundering" (2010). Also, it is mention within this national drug threat assessment that was done by the U.S. Department of
Justice, that the "greatest drug trafficking threat" to the United States is "Mexico" (2010). With this been said one can understand that the roots
majority of the criminal groups that operate domestically within the U.S. can be traced back to Mexico. So, in order to understand how this criminal

America 's Freedom Of Freedom
Introduction
Since 2011, the Freedom House has classified Mexico as a purple, or a "not free" country in its annual Freedom of the Press report. The upraise of
violence in the country, stemmed from its war against drugs, has threatened Mexico's freedom of expression and practice of journalism, undermining
the foundations of the country's democracy. During the last 12 years, 82 journalists have been murdered, 18 have disappeared and there have been 33
attacks on media outlets according to the National Human Rights Comission.
The legal system in Mexico is so weak and fragmented that those responsible for the attacks on journalists rarely face consequences. The lack of rule
of law aggravates the fear of the brave journalists that risk their lives daily to report the harsh truths of what really happens in the country. These
journalists deserve and should be protected by their government, but Mexican journalists don't only have the drug cartel's as their enemies, but corrupt
government officials as well.
Members of international institutions like the United Nations and the Inter–American Commission on Human Rights have urged Mexican authorities
to do more to ensure that freedom of expression in the country is protected. It is important to understand the government's involvement in the war on
drugs and the role of the country's legal system to understand how Mexico's war on drugs has jeopardized the lives of hundreds of journalists.

The Sagrada Familia Is A Catholic Temple
1.Introduction The Sagrada Familia is a Catholic temple that expresses Christian faith through its structure and form. It is a building whose
importance lies in its nature and divine revelation. It is built in the Glory of God and every aspect of it reflects the divine world. In a way, it can be
considered a meeting point between heaven and earth. As Saint Maximus, the Confessor wrote, "it is worthy of admiration that, being so small [the
temple], it is similar to the grandness of the world..." Symbols are present throughout the whole temple, whether it is in the form of the plan to the
stories the facades narrate. 2.a.Nature as a model Albert Fargas expressed in his book "Symbology of the Temple of the Sagrada Familia", that
temples must imitate nature because according to tradition, they are "cosmic". The Sagrada Familia is a temple created in the image by imitating the
world, nature, and God's work. It is a sacred space built by humans in devotion to God. GaudГ used nature's constructive laws of nature to solve
architectural problems. The reason for GaudГ using nature in this way and not creating a realistic image of the world, but instead a structural one is
because he aimed to produce the intimate and mathematical structures, and to imitate its harmony. GaudГ represented the essence of nature by
incorporating plant structures, animal movement and the geometry of mineral crystallization into his architecture. b.Symbolism of the Sagrada Familia

audi's style could be described as a mix of Art Nouveau and his own unique organic style, which was influenced by shapes and structures from the
natural world. One of Gaudi's most impressive and beautiful buildings is Casa BatllГі. GaudГ designed the building for Josep BatllГі, a wealthy
aristocrat, as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. GaudГ managed to convince BattlГі to
remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between 1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and
completely remodeled the interior. This building clearly illustrated Gaudi's work. His use of flowing organic lines are evident and can be seen in my

This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist's vision. Gaudi incorporated his creativeness into a building produced a concrete example
of his vision. To me it feels like this building you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street ofBarcelona erected amongst other
buildings. Yet it questions our imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi's
work is about to create an impact on its viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different, something out
of the ordinary.
Another one of Gaudi's famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on of the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the
building was actually started by Francisco de Paula Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that Villar
had begun to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his religious side into this building.
The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve towers between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is
a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory. The
rest of the church is conceived in an organic style,

The Mexican Drug War and Its Consequences
The Mexican Drug War and Its Consequences Despite President Felipe Calderon's good intentions and determination to eliminate the drug cartels in
Mexico, the Mexican government has not been able to stop the drug cartel's operations (smuggling drugs, people and weapons to and from the USA)
for many reasons. The drug cartels have proven to be powerful, well connected politically, well trained, well– armed, and manipulation of the masses.
Therefore, it has been impossible for the Mexican government to stop cartels like La Familia from operating, and now the cartels have become a
problem for the Unites States too. The Mexican cartels have proven to be unstoppable for the Mexican government. President of Mexico Felipe... Show

They are trying every way possible to make people believe they are doing God's work. The Mexican church has not said anything about it, and
there are people who are led to believe that perhaps some of the violent works of the La Familia are necessary and maybe even justified. La
Familia's smuggling business has a big negative effect on America society and economy. Since La Familia is willing to pay the exorbitant amounts
of money for necessary costly weapons, it entices Americans into breaking the law by getting involved in the illegally sales of arms. In February
2007, drug cartels gunmen attacked two offices of the Guerrero state attorney general's office in the resort town of Acapulco, killing four officers and
three secretaries. One of the rifles used in the attack was traced back to the United States (guns without borders). Federal agents say about 90 percent
of the 12000 pistols and rifles that the Mexican authorities recovered from drug dealers in the United States are mostly from Texas and Arizona
(McKinley 1). Every gun smuggler captured is sent to prison, and the government has to house him and fed him, costing taxpayers thousands of
dollars a year. Drug addiction costs the U.S. billions in health care. According to the 2008 National Survey of Drug Use and Health, approximately

Gaudi studied the natural form as a basis for his architectural detail and further considered this as the spiritual basis of and for his designs. Gaudi
wrote: "Nature does not present us with uniformly monotonous objects. Everything keeps its contrast, more or less, stemming from the vitality of the
colors" (Alvarez 10).
The work of Antoni Gaudi falls under the movement of Modernism and therefore is wrapped in the traits of exuberant forms, ornamentation, great
attention to detail, vast use of plant motifs, and the preference to curvilinear and asymmetrical line. Along with his attention to great detail Gaudi
integrated the use of ceramic tile, stained glass, wrought iron works and master crafted carpentry which ultimately enhanced the unique innovative
design concepts in which he became noted for. Gaudi introduced new techniques to the architectural world such as trencadis, which is a type of
mosaic made of waste ceramic pieces and which is one of the design details incorporated throughout his work, one example being the spires of the
Sagrada FamГlia. Gaudi's work always involved a distinctive use of materials in particular the use of texture and color arrangement which was almost
always included along with his imaginative style using ornamental ironwork. His wrought–iron designs were arrived at independently and frequently in
advance of the comparable experiments of mainstream Art Nouveau (Arnason and Mansfield 101). Gaudi

Gargoyles Research Paper
Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration
project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral.
The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral's South tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it
isn't functional to the building and is purely decor. Also referred to as the Melancholy Demon or Le Stryge, which according to mythology, is a
half–woman, half–bird demon that seeks to harm children, found prominently in cemeteries . Le Stryge was made in the 19th century during which

In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for Viollet–le–Duc they represented salvation, protection, and
the soul of the building. Gargoyles that sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told
citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet–le–Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced
them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of
steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet–le–Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles
in masses so that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further
accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet–le–Duc insisted on
proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated
canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet–le–Duc either found his gargoyles to be
sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these elements prove a point that Viollet–le–Duc's
main goal was preservation of the structure after restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic

Of the three mentioned social issues, education will be further examined in this paper. Bolsa Familia's effects on education can be analyzed using a
framework of financial trade–offs in the decision to continue in school.
There are three main components to understanding the model. First, there are the direct costs which are mostly cash cost items such as book

more underground gang structures are prison gangs. The Nuestra Familia may not be in the news as much anymore compared to other gangs, but they

The newly formed Nuestra Familia engaged in prison war against the Mexican Mafia throughout the 70's until the later 1970's when a formal divide
was acknowledged between the gangs. After the formal divide Nuestra Familia began making allies with other Californian Prison gangs like the Black
Guerilla family to defeat a common enemy, The Mexican Mafia. On the other side the Mexican Mafia teamed up with the Aryan Brotherhood to combat
the newly formed Nuestra Familia and Black Guerilla Family alliance. In order for the Nuestra Familia to gain power in the prisons it has to control the

(Gangland, 2008) The NorteГ±os operated under leadership from the Nuestra Familia members in prison. The NorteГ±os used the trafficking of drugs

When one thinks of a cathedral, he or she may not bring La Sagrada de Familia as their first choice. The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia

Power Of Familia
In this chapter, I will investigate the various meanings of familia. The theme of my chosen vocabulary is the language of power and thus it is
necessary to compare the power of the magistrate or state official to that of parents in the home. The word derives from the noun 'famulus' which
means servant or slave (LS 1879). I will be contrasting the use of familia with that of domus as aspects of words connoting power. Saller (1999: p.84)
states that familia was never used to mean father, mother, and children as in today's term 'family' as it referred, as we can see from its etymology, to the
slave staff of a house.
The Master or Mistress of the Household

Being a king, he undoubtedly had many servants, serfs, and retainers and this is evidenced in the use of the adverb 'undique' to suggest that he was in
possession of both many estates and a large number of 'retainers'. The transitive verb 'coego' is useful as it indicates that these people had ties of
loyalty to Orgetorix which compelled them to be gathered together. It must be noted that the word 'retainers' can also be interpreted as the king's court,
his households and estates, and all his dependants. In this way, familia is used to indicate the king's possessions and

Antoni Gaudi: Architecture, Architecture And Architecture
Architects have a major importance in characterizing a city through their concept and building design. As time goes on, a lot of architect are creating
new styles and new methods of construction; these architects get inspired by different things and create their own concept and style, sometimes there
are similarity between architects' styles. One architect who stood out of the crowd and created a very distinctive style is Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a
Spanish architect whose work is very identified as it can be known through its organic structure, colors, and materials. What really differentiate Antoni
Gaudi is his controversial new style. Antoni Gaudi's main inspiration was nature and he implemented it very clearly in his buildings. Gaudi was a
religious man and he believed that God exists in nature therefor, he chose nature as his inspiration. He understood that nature is full of curved forms.
In his vision, nature can be clarified by geometry and structure which means by understanding the power that gives nature its appearance. Gaudi
engaged himself in studying geometry and the structural form, from the human body to the sea and its creatures (Pier, 2010). Sagrada Familia's
façades, Gaudi's most famous building, are based on the golden ratio which appears in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His strong concept that integrated with his very wide imagination created a very unique style that cannot be repeated in the history of art. Looking at
his creations and the great difference he made in architecture, no one can deny the great person and architect he was. Gaudi dedicated himself for
work which became his family and his whole life; his dedication made his name as one of the greatest men in the history of art. All Antoni Gaudi's
buildings are outstanding and they force their existence. "He was his own man, the only 'Natural' in the Age of the Machine" (Gough, 2002, para.

Analysis Of Bolsa Familia Springs From A Long Tradition Of...
Bolsa Familia springs from a long tradition of welfare and development strategies in Latin America. Economic and social development are of central
concern to governments and development agencies worldwide due to their direct link to equality. This can be explained through the well–defined link
between income levels and health, education and nutritional outcomes, emphasizing the importance of addressing inequality in order to break the cycle
of intergenerational poverty. Thus, reducing inequality is central to the success of policy initiatives, as the Bolsa Familia's strong focus on developing
human capital is what makes it a 'poverty reduction program rather than a social assistance one' (Fitzbein et al, 2009: 11). Targetingdevelopment ...

Figure 1: Social security, health, and education expenditure in Brazil
Source: Haggard and Kaufmann, 2008: 388.
Welfare can be defined as the minimum level of responsibility of the state for its citizens – this is what I will attribute to 'social security' in Figure one.
Welfare can be in the form of a steady base transfer, in order to provide ongoing, or short term payments to alleviate financial hardship. In contrast,
human capital accumulation (HCA) can be attributed to investments in 'education' and 'health' (Figure 1). HCA is the increased education, health and
productivity of potential workers, to which 'social security' is only a precondition. It is a central driver of human and economic development. Thus,
Bolsa Familia's conditionality is what distinguishes it from a welfare scheme to a poverty assistance scheme. Furthermore, the conditionality aspect of
cash transfers is what assures requirements regarding human capital accumulation will be met.
CCTs are a site of convergence of international and statist development policy initiatives, which are played out at the community level by
administrators and agents on the ground. Thus, Bolsa Familia is led by governments, endorsed by the World Bank, and implemented by local
authorities. CCTs are seen as 'an alternative to more traditional and paternalistic approaches to social assistance' (de la Briere and Rawlings, 2006: 6).
It is this level of decentralisation which contributes to their appeal on both the

Religious Significance Of La Sagrada Familia

the splendid landmark, even though its construction is still going on, this temple has been a must see for decades! But, what is the reason of its

La Familia, A Local Restaurant
La Familia, a local restaurant in Waco, Texas has been a favorite among many for over 10 years. "This place is some of the most authentic Mexican
food in Waco...seriously FAN–TASTIC", "the waitress was just a doll", are just a few things that have been said about La Familia. Based on public
reviews of the restaurant, we can assume that La Familia will score highly in a majority of the scoring guidelines and officially earn the rating many
believe it deserves. A restaurant experience goes far beyond simply the taste of the food, but also encompasses the atmosphere and service standards.
When visiting a highly acclaimed restaurant, the crГЁme–de–la–crГЁme, it must excel in all categories, but a deficit could still be recoverable. Like
wine, some restaurants get better with age. La Familia has been a Waco favorite for over 10 years and they plan to keep it that way. The staff have
found out what people tend to favor as well as what they do not and continue to mold the restaurant's menu and facilities into the best it can be. As an
avid foodie or gourmet, I like to think that my criteria on restaurants are among the most respected. Having such a well–traveled palate, the key points
of judgement that I have curated are accepted widely. Food–this is thought to be the most critical part of a dining experience, but in all actuality, it is
not. The food a restaurant serves could be scrumptious, but if the atmosphere of the restaurant is not up to par, the overall standard of the

For my comparison I watched the 1997 movie Fools Rush In, written by Katherine Reback and Joan Taylor. This film features Matthew Perry (playing
the role of an white architect from NY) and Salma Hayek (playing Isabel Fuentes a Mexican–American photographer). Alex and Isabel hit it off at first
sight and end up having a one night stand. Isabel gets pregnant from that night, and the two ends up trying to make a relationship work despite their
vastly different cultural backgrounds. The parents of the two young lovers have extremely different values and family ideals which lead to
confrontation. Long story short, Alex and Isabel work through their differences and get married with full support of both families in the end. Mi

natural and it is ok what they are doing, but don't say anything after that. Both fathers start arguing over what religion the baby will be, insulting each
other's cultures in the process. The mothers have no say in the argument, reinforcing that the male is the voice and authority of the family. The message
that the white culture should be embarrassed of Mexican–American culture is present in both films. The scene when Alex's parents first meet Isabel
and think is the cleaning lady (because Alex didn't tell them she is his wife), mirrors the scene when Memo bring his white fiancГ©'s family to his

would love to be able to go experience it for myself instead of just seeing pictures of it. The Sagrada Familia definitely caught my attention right off

La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family
In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni GaudГ began work on La Sagrada FamГlia (the Expiratory Church of the Holy Family,) a Catholic cathedral in
Barcelona, Spain. What began as a modest Gothic Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi's direction,
into a massive monument to Catholicism, Catalonia, and the city of Barcelona. Neither of the Gothic tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada
Familia is known for its striking individuality at the turn of the twentieth century. as well as its enormous scale and plethora of motifs. While many
people abhore the intense decoration and towering height, (people have obviously also thought it worthwhile because the building is still under
meticulous construction to this very day and completion is anticipated in 2020, marking 140 years of construction.) Gaudi did not mind that the
construction would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his efforts, La Sagrada Familia became a vessel through which Gaudi
could finally build to fruition the architectural conceptions he had been developing with previous projects. Throughout his career , Gaudi strove to
imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through geometry. [1] Meticulous calculations allowed Gaudi to translate this
inspiration into architectural experiences. La Sagrada Familia was [Gaudi's opportunity to literally build an illustration of the intimate connection he
felt between nature and

Prison gangs are flourishing across the country. Organized, stealthy and deadly, they are reaching out from their cells to organize and control crime in
America's streets. Law enforcement personal began to systematically monitor gang activities in the 1970's. Working together, their initial attempts were
to identify only gangs which had some semblance of formal structure, a constitution, bylaws, mission statement, or some identifiable tenets guiding
their activities. However, with experience, staff began to realize that even less well–organized groups could still pose significant threats to the security

In the novel Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, Arcady plays a major role both in his own life and the lives of others. Arcady, despite the shield he
surrounds himself with, is not a true Nihilist like his friend Bazarov through his thoughts and actions we see his change. To begin, Arcady shows signs
of Romanticism Early on in the novel despite the announcement of his Nihilist beliefs. For example, Bazarov and Arcady were walking one afternoon
in the garden and overheard Nicholas playing his cello.

"It may be all the same to you, but I should like to state that, far from having any preference for your sister, I wouldn't exchange you for anyone
else in the world" (174). Bazarov also fell in love with Anna Sergeyevna but realized that she would not love him back. " 'I must tell you
that I love you stupidly, madly . . .
. You have forced me. Now you know.' Madame Odintzov was filled with fear as well as a feeling of compassion for him. But she at once disengaged
herself from his embrace an instant later she was already standing distantly in the corner and gazing at him. 'You misunderstood me,' she whispered
hastily in alarm. She looked as though she might scream if he took another step (108)." And so, he returned to his Nihilist beliefs.
Arcady's falling in love with Katya and his proposal to her was his second step towards becoming an individual. It showed that he no longer

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) did a study on the impact of Bolsa Familia on education and health outcomes in Brazil and
had a couple of key findings.
First, Bolsa Familia did increase school attendance rates in Brazil; all children between age 6 to 17 had increased attendance rates between 4.5
percentage points. When broken down by gender, female attendance increased more with 8.5 percentage points. If the analysis was done comparing
rural and urban regions, rural area attendance increased more significantly with 7.4 percentage points. Furthermore, the effects of Bolsa Familia can
be seen in labor market and schooling decisions. The study concluded a couple of effects on children after the age of 14. For girls, their likelihood of
attending school increased 21 percentage points if the family receives the cash transfers. For boys, the working age increased by 1.5 years on average if
their family received Bolsa Familia (de Brauw 311).

The Autodefensa Movement In Mexico

  • 1. The Autodefensa Movement In Mexico In general, the autodefensa movement in Mexico's western state of MichoacГЎn was an impressive reaction towards organized crime. The autodefensa movement is a vigilante self–defense groups that were brought together in MichoacГЎn to fight against the Caballeros Templarios cartel. The people of MichoacГЎn were sick of the violence, extortions, and how the local and state government were indirectly involved with the drug cartel. The person I interviewed was Ivan who was involved in the autodefensa movement in Tepalcatepec, MichoacГЎn. When I conducted the interview through the phone with Ivan since he was still in Mexico, his responses to the questions such as why you joined the movement were plain, but you can notice in his voice a sense of pride ... The rest of the leaders of the Familia Michoacana were Jesus Mendez Vargas known as "El Chango" from El Aguaje, MichoacГЎn, Servando Gomez Martinez better known as "La Tuta" from Arteaga, MichoacГЎn, and Enrique Plancarte Solis known as "El Kike" from Nueva Italia, MichoacГЎn. La Familia Michoacana were known to be really violent. The Familia Michoacana cartel members used murder and torture to suppress other drug cartels, while building a social base in the Mexican state of MichoacГЎn. The Familia Michoacana was a religious cult–like Drug Cartel Organization that celebrated family values. For example, in an event that took place in Uruapan in September 2006, the cartel members tossed five severed heads onto the dance floor of the Sol y Sombra night club along with a message that read: "The Family doesn't kill for money. It doesn't kill women. It doesn't kill innocent people, only those who deserve to die. Know that this is divine justice." This examples comes to prove that the Familia Michoacana want to publicize an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Personal Narrative Essay : Welcome To Madrid It was a perfect day, not even the noise alarm couldn't take my smiling face away. When I was getting ready it looked like the time was passing in slow motion, the only thing that I could think was that this week it was going to be the most amazing week ever. Finally we all got ready, you could see the happiness in our eyes as we start our way to the massive airport. There it was in front of us we still couldn't believe that our sweet dream was just ten hours away from us. The plane wasn't the most comfortable but in that moment you don't look to does small details. In my mind I was thinking about every possible thing I could do when I get there, I was thinking about all the beauties that those marvelous cities across the world could show us, and suddenly the moment came when the pilot said Welcome to Madrid Spain. We couldn't believe what we saw it was like another complete world, like we were in a different dimension. As soon as we got there we just forgot about how tired we were or if we didn't sleep that much we just wanted to see every small detail of this enormous city. Every structure looked like thousand or even millions years ago it was just admirable. Millions of people every day were walking in streets that look that don't have an end. We stay in Madrid for three days and we walked more that days that ever in our lives, it looked like we were in a marathon. We see splendid structures like "El Parque del Retiro" it was like that park was always there all natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Sagrada Familia "The Temple [of The Sagrada FamГlia] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with everything destined to have a long life. Hundred–year–old oak trees take many years to grow tall; on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no more to be said"1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life–long work, Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature in his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple's eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123 years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Urquinouna i Bidot, the Bishop of Vic, the Captain General and other authorities, the architect F.P. de Villar, members of the Association of Followers of St. Joseph and various citizens and contributors. On the first stone was inscribed the words, "Awaken indifferent hearts from their slumber. Exalt the faith. Promote charity. Invoke the Lord to have mercy on this country, and encourage by its Catholic roots to think, preach and practice virtue."1 The first architect of the project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo–gothic structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a masterpiece they were destined to create. Gaudi's plans adapted the work begun by de Villar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The City Of La Sagrada Familia 3.2 Inspiration In Barcelona. The university is located in a very diverse part of the city with a lot of historical heritage, which will become very inspirational through designing while here. Barcelona is known for its quirkiness, cool character and cosmopolitan as a city but also known for its historical and contemporary architecture, local festivals and art museums. The two main sources of inspiration are: Sagrada Familia – "The expiatory church of La Sagrada FamГlia is a work on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828–1901). At the end of 1883 Gaudi was commissioned to carry on the works, a task that he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea." (Sagrada Familia 2015) This is a fantastic piece of on going architecture and the interior lives up to the exterior as well. It basically shows what Barcelona if as a city. Having been here before it has always been a source of inspiration. Esglesia Se Santa Maria – "14th century Catalan Gothic architecture has a strong personality. Particularly outstanding is the sober horizontal– structure of its buildings. A strong case can be made that the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar is the clearest example of this type of building in Barcelona throughout the fourteenth century." • 9. In The Film “Mi Familia,” We Follow The Story Of The... In the film "Mi Familia," we follow the story of the Mexican–American SГЎnchez family who settled in East Los Angeles, California after immigrating to the United States. Gregory Nava and Anna Thomas introduce the story of this family in several contexts that are developed along generations. These generations hold significant historical periods that form the identity of each individual member of the family. We start off by exploring the immigrant experience as the family patriarch heads north to Los Angeles, later we see how national events like the great depression directly impact Maria as she gets deported, although she was a US citizen. The events that follow further oppress this family and begins separate identity formations. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two characters showed significant psychological work in hopes of changing their "problematic" social identity. Both of these characters were conscious of the stigmas that surrounded their identities, each, however, had distinct ways in which they dealt with those stigmas and changing their meanings as they grew older. Many would say that the way in which they were able to transform their identities meant either embracing it or denying one's own identity fully as the film progressed and new societal pressures arose. Toni was one of two daughters of Maria and Jose; she was the youngest daughter. Growing up Toni was constantly praised for her beauty and throughout the film, she was hypersexualized by the people in her community. Being a beautiful Latina woman put her into categories and set expectations for her. Her sister was already married and being the only other daughter she was expected to be next anytime soon. In hopes of gaining respect and relieving the pressures of being a woman in her community, Toni decided she would become a nun. During her time abroad as a nun, she found a passion for activism and met someone she had fallen in love with. Although she was committed to the church, she was not able to freely love and continue her mission to do justice, therefore she left the church. Toni was brave, strong, and smart. At the time, however, many did not see her and her actions in that way. People dismissed the good that she was doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. U.s. Department Of The Criminal Justice Field In my Special Topics in Geography course, the instructor Dr. Hilburn had assigned my peers and I to do a map of anything that interests us by applying all the skills and knowledge that we have learned during the semester. During my research of opting of what should I do my map about I focused myself within the study field in which I am majoring so, I started researching anything that is related to the criminal justice field. A key factor that helped me determined what should the topic of my map focus on was the notion that I live in a border town that is next to Mexico. Eventually, I decided to do a map that will focus at a state level on the territories within Mexico that transnational criminal organizations have a dominant influence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center, drug cartels can be define as "...large, highly sophisticated organizations composed of multiple [Drug Trafficking Organizations] DTOs and cells with specific assignments such as drug transportation, security /enforcement, or money laundering" (2010). Also, it is mention within this national drug threat assessment that was done by the U.S. Department of Justice, that the "greatest drug trafficking threat" to the United States is "Mexico" (2010). With this been said one can understand that the roots majority of the criminal groups that operate domestically within the U.S. can be traced back to Mexico. So, in order to understand how this criminal organizations form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. America 's Freedom Of Freedom Introduction Since 2011, the Freedom House has classified Mexico as a purple, or a "not free" country in its annual Freedom of the Press report. The upraise of violence in the country, stemmed from its war against drugs, has threatened Mexico's freedom of expression and practice of journalism, undermining the foundations of the country's democracy. During the last 12 years, 82 journalists have been murdered, 18 have disappeared and there have been 33 attacks on media outlets according to the National Human Rights Comission. The legal system in Mexico is so weak and fragmented that those responsible for the attacks on journalists rarely face consequences. The lack of rule of law aggravates the fear of the brave journalists that risk their lives daily to report the harsh truths of what really happens in the country. • 12. The Sagrada Familia Is A Catholic Temple 1.Introduction The Sagrada Familia is a Catholic temple that expresses Christian faith through its structure and form. It is a building whose importance lies in its nature and divine revelation. It is built in the Glory of God and every aspect of it reflects the divine world. In a way, it can be considered a meeting point between heaven and earth. As Saint Maximus, the Confessor wrote, "it is worthy of admiration that, being so small [the temple], it is similar to the grandness of the world..." Symbols are present throughout the whole temple, whether it is in the form of the plan to the stories the facades narrate. 2.a.Nature as a model Albert Fargas expressed in his book "Symbology of the Temple of the Sagrada Familia", that temples must imitate nature because according to tradition, they are "cosmic". The Sagrada Familia is a temple created in the image by imitating the world, nature, and God's work. It is a sacred space built by humans in devotion to God. GaudГ used nature's constructive laws of nature to solve architectural problems. The reason for GaudГ using nature in this way and not creating a realistic image of the world, but instead a structural one is because he aimed to produce the intimate and mathematical structures, and to imitate its harmony. GaudГ represented the essence of nature by incorporating plant structures, animal movement and the geometry of mineral crystallization into his architecture. b.Symbolism of the Sagrada Familia Natures ... One of Gaudi's most impressive and beautiful buildings is Casa BatllГі. GaudГ designed the building for Josep BatllГі, a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. GaudГ managed to convince BattlГі to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between 1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled the interior. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi's work is about to create an impact on its viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different, something out of the ordinary. Another one of Gaudi's famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on of the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually started by Francisco de Paula Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that Villar had begun to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his religious side into this building. The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve towers between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory. The Mexican Drug War and Its Consequences The Mexican Drug War and Its Consequences Despite President Felipe Calderon's good intentions and determination to eliminate the drug cartels in Mexico, the Mexican government has not been able to stop the drug cartel's operations (smuggling drugs, people and weapons to and from the USA) for many reasons. The drug cartels have proven to be powerful, well connected politically, well trained, well– armed, and manipulation of the masses. Since La Familia is willing to pay the exorbitant amounts of money for necessary costly weapons, it entices Americans into breaking the law by getting involved in the illegally sales of arms. In February 2007, drug cartels gunmen attacked two offices of the Guerrero state attorney general's office in the resort town of Acapulco, killing four officers and three secretaries. Gaudi studied the natural form as a basis for his architectural detail and further considered this as the spiritual basis of and for his designs. Gaudi wrote: "Nature does not present us with uniformly monotonous objects. Everything keeps its contrast, more or less, stemming from the vitality of the colors" (Alvarez 10). The work of Antoni Gaudi falls under the movement of Modernism and therefore is wrapped in the traits of exuberant forms, ornamentation, great attention to detail, vast use of plant motifs, and the preference to curvilinear and asymmetrical line. Along with his attention to great detail Gaudi integrated the use of ceramic tile, stained glass, wrought iron works and master crafted carpentry which ultimately enhanced the unique innovative design concepts in which he became noted for. Gaudi introduced new techniques to the architectural world such as trencadis, which is a type of mosaic made of waste ceramic pieces and which is one of the design details incorporated throughout his work, one example being the spires of the Sagrada FamГlia. Gaudi's work always involved a distinctive use of materials in particular the use of texture and color arrangement which was almost always included along with his imaginative style using ornamental ironwork. His wrought–iron designs were arrived at independently and frequently in advance of the comparable experiments of mainstream Art Nouveau (Arnason and Mansfield 101). Gaudi ... Gargoyles Research Paper Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral's South tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn't functional to the building and is purely decor. Gargoyles that sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet–le–Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet–le–Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet–le–Duc insisted on proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet–le–Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these elements prove a point that Viollet–le–Duc's main goal was preservation of the structure after restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic ... The theme of my chosen vocabulary is the language of power and thus it is necessary to compare the power of the magistrate or state official to that of parents in the home. The word derives from the noun 'famulus' which means servant or slave (LS 1879). I will be contrasting the use of familia with that of domus as aspects of words connoting power. Saller (1999: p.84) states that familia was never used to mean father, mother, and children as in today's term 'family' as it referred, as we can see from its etymology, to the slave staff of a house. One architect who stood out of the crowd and created a very distinctive style is Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a Spanish architect whose work is very identified as it can be known through its organic structure, colors, and materials. What really differentiate Antoni Gaudi is his controversial new style. Antoni Gaudi's main inspiration was nature and he implemented it very clearly in his buildings. Gaudi was a religious man and he believed that God exists in nature therefor, he chose nature as his inspiration. He understood that nature is full of curved forms. In his vision, nature can be clarified by geometry and structure which means by understanding the power that gives nature its appearance. Welfare can be defined as the minimum level of responsibility of the state for its citizens – this is what I will attribute to 'social security' in Figure one. Welfare can be in the form of a steady base transfer, in order to provide ongoing, or short term payments to alleviate financial hardship. In contrast, human capital accumulation (HCA) can be attributed to investments in 'education' and 'health' (Figure 1). HCA is the increased education, health and productivity of potential workers, to which 'social security' is only a precondition. It is a central driver of human and economic development. Thus, Bolsa Familia's conditionality is what distinguishes it from a welfare scheme to a poverty assistance scheme. Furthermore, the conditionality aspect of cash transfers is what assures requirements regarding human capital accumulation will be met. La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni GaudГ began work on La Sagrada FamГlia (the Expiratory Church of the Holy Family,) a Catholic cathedral in Barcelona, Spain. What began as a modest Gothic Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi's direction, into a massive monument to Catholicism, Catalonia, and the city of Barcelona. Neither of the Gothic tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada Familia is known for its striking individuality at the turn of the twentieth century. as well as its enormous scale and plethora of motifs. While many people abhore the intense decoration and towering height, (people have obviously also thought it worthwhile because the building is still under meticulous construction to this very day and completion is anticipated in 2020, marking 140 years of construction.) Gaudi did not mind that the construction would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his efforts, La Sagrada Familia became a vessel through which Gaudi could finally build to fruition the architectural conceptions he had been developing with previous projects. Throughout his career , Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through geometry. [1] Meticulous calculations allowed Gaudi to translate this inspiration into architectural experiences. La Sagrada Familia was [Gaudi's opportunity to literally build an illustration of the intimate connection he felt between nature and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even so, that in the second half of the 20th century, Brazil became one of the most unequal countries in the world where the poorest 60 % of the population had only 4 % of the wealth, while the richest 20 % held 58 % of the pie" (Wetzel, & EconГґmico, 2013). • 35. Arcady: His Voyage Towards Individualism Essay In the novel Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, Arcady plays a major role both in his own life and the lives of others. Arcady, despite the shield he surrounds himself with, is not a true Nihilist like his friend Bazarov through his thoughts and actions we see his change. To begin, Arcady shows signs of Romanticism Early on in the novel despite the announcement of his Nihilist beliefs. For example, Bazarov and Arcady were walking one afternoon in the garden and overheard Nicholas playing his cello. "At that instant the lingering notes of a 'cello were wafted towards them from the house . . . and, like honey, the melody flowed through the air" (49). Bazarov also fell in love with Anna Sergeyevna but realized that she would not love him back. " 'I must tell you that I love you stupidly, madly . . . . You have forced me. Now you know.' Madame Odintzov was filled with fear as well as a feeling of compassion for him. But she at once disengaged herself from his embrace an instant later she was already standing distantly in the corner and gazing at him. 'You misunderstood me,' she whispered hastily in alarm. She looked as though she might scream if he took another step (108)." And so, he returned to his Nihilist beliefs. Arcady's falling in love with Katya and his proposal to her was his second step towards becoming an individual. It showed that he no longer followed Bazarov like an impressionable child would an older sibling. He now began to make large decisions on his own which affected his life in a big way.Arcady, through his understanding of Bazarov's arrogance, took his third and final step towards becoming his own person. Pais (2013) conducted research on the program and found that it raised school attendance, but it did not stop children from being involved in work activities (p. 666). • 39. Boalsa Familia Essay The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) did a study on the impact of Bolsa Familia on education and health outcomes in Brazil and had a couple of key findings. First, Bolsa Familia did increase school attendance rates in Brazil; all children between age 6 to 17 had increased attendance rates between 4.5 percentage points. When broken down by gender, female attendance increased more with 8.5 percentage points. If the analysis was done comparing rural and urban regions, rural area attendance increased more significantly with 7.4 percentage points. Furthermore, the effects of Bolsa Familia can be seen in labor market and schooling decisions. The study concluded a couple of effects on children after the age of 14. For girls, their likelihood of attending school increased 21 percentage points if the family receives the cash transfers. For boys, the working age increased by 1.5 years on average if their family received Bolsa Familia (de Brauw 311). In the study, they sought to draw causal impact by using propensity score matching. This methodology is fitting because the treatment was non–randomized: participants in Bolsa Familia were likely poorer which may tie into a multitude of other characteristics. In the ... In generic terms, I guess some may say that gangs tend to keep to themselves (meaning they keep relationships with only those associated with that gang ), group of people with similar ideas and visions, simply, just up to no good. Interaction with other gangs would merely be for retaliation purposes, initiation purposes (having to kill a member of a rival gang or some random innocent civilian).
