Design question
Yr8
Year 8 – Design question
Starter
What do you think the GCSE technology exam paper is going to
include? Think beyond just questions, what type of questions might
they have in them?
Year 8 – Design question
Learning objective
How to answer a GCSE style design question.
Learning outcome
To be able to understand the requirements of the design question
in a GCSE exam paper.
Year 8 – Design question
Level 3 rendering is inconsistent with a few white gaps and clear
indications of where rendering has taken place. There is some change
in the tone of rendering showing a light direction. Describe how you
created this rendering sample.
Level 4 rendering is consistent to an adequate standard with only a few
indications of the direction of rendering. There is a clear direction of
light on the three dimensional object being rendered. Explain how this
technique was created.
Level 5 rendering is to a high standard showing no indication of the
direction of rendering. A clear light source is visible on the three
dimensional object and rendering is consistently good on all three
sides. Investigated why this technique might be used.
Level 4 Have completed two different design with simple diagrams
explaining your ideas fairly well with some annotation points giving details
about the design.
Level 5 Have completed two different designs with a clear diagram
explaining your idea well with use of annotation to explain the materials
you have used along with other details such as size.
Level 6 Have completed two different designs with very clear diagrams
explaining your idea well with use of clear detailed annotation to explain
the materials you have used along with other details such as size and
describing how it could be made.
Year 8 – Design question
Show from 1-5 on how confident you are on each success criteria.
1 is not at all confident, 5 is super confident

Plenary
Swap with your neighbour, marking each others question:
Has your neighbour completed two designs?
Is the drawing is easy to understand and interpret?
Have they annotated with materials
Described how it can be created?
Give a mark for each bullet point they have met.
Give your neighbour a comment about what they have done well and
what they need to do well.
