1. Homework Independent Learning Task
Material analysis
WALT: What materials exist and what properties they
have.
WILF: That you are able to find a range of materials
(metals, plastics, woods and smart) you are able to rate
them against a set of criteria.
2. Homework Independent Learning Task
Material analysis
What do I have to do?
Find range of materials
Set a range of criteria to rate the materials against
Place pictures of materials on top trumps and rate
You are expected to complete all three points below.
1. Collect a range of materials (metals, plastics, woods
and smart)
2. Come up with a set of criteria to rate materials against
3. Rate the materials against the criteria you have
formedThis project is designed to last for 3 hours. It includes some
tasks that you must do (in blue) to achieve a level 3, other tasks that
you may be directed to do to achieve a level 4 (in red) and green tasks
that will increase the mark to a level 5.
3. Homework Independent Learning Task
Material analysis
Level 3
Have found a limited range of materials (woods and metals only), come up
with simple headings to rate the materials against.
Level 4
Have found a range of materials, come up with appropriate headings to rate
the materials against that allow a greater understanding of what makes one
material different from another.
Level 5
Have found a wide range of materials including smart materials, come up with
appropriate and technical headings to rate the materials against that allow for
a greater and detailed understanding of what makes one material different
from than another.

6. Year 7 – materials
W.A.L.T. (we are learning today)
by the end of the lesson you will have learnt;
the names and properties of a range of materials
W.I.L.F. what I am looking for;
you have used information effectively to research
different materials,
you are able to reflect on the suitability of materials for
a specific purpose.
7. Year 7 – materials
Level 3
Have researched a limited number of materials (5 different
materials) stating what they look like with limited properties and
uses.
Level 4
Have researched a range of materials (7 different materials)
stating what they look like, their properties and uses. Have though
of a product which could use each material you have researched.
Level 5
Have researched a wide range of materials (9 different materials)
stating what they look like, their properties and uses. Have thought
of a product which could use each material and why it would be
suitable.
