Environment of Presentation
Below is evidence of the environment in which I completed the presentation of my Pitch in for
my magazine. From the images, you can see that I used a slide changer, bottom right, which
helped with presenting, as it meant I didn’t have to keep going back and forth to using the
keyboard in order to change to the next slide. I then used an Apple Mac computer, which loaded
the presentation, which linked to the projector and then to the interactive whiteboard which
allowed my peers to see my presentation and all of my magazine ideas in further detail, but also
see the images and aspects of the Front Covers and Double Page Spreads, in a much larger scale.
Evidence of Pitch
When completing and presenting my pitch, we used a camera to record the whole presentation as evidence, but also
as a way to conduct feedback for myself by having others look over it but also having myself look over it, and being
able to identify exactly what things I could improve on in terms of presenting or pitching a new product to my peers.
A positive comment that I received on my Survey Monkey responses about my presentation skills was that, after the
presentation was complete, and I had asked for feedback based on what my peers had just seen, some people said
that there were “No improvements needed” for my pitch, therefore allowing me to see exactly how well I presented
my pitch and how I came across confident to my peers in presenting my ideas and pitching my 2 magazines, and then
coming to a final conclusion in choice of which one I would prefer to use as a final product, or as the ‘better’ idea of
the 2 magazines.
A negative comment I received was that I was ‘Uhmming’ a lot during my presentation, which would show a sign of
not knowing what I am doing or anxiety or fear about presenting the pitch. This would reflect badly on the pitch
because it would make my peers think that I am not confident in the products that I have created due to the lack in
confidence I had in presenting them.
I also had to sign a witness statement saying that I had presented my pitch to my peers, presenting them with the 2
products that I had created. The witness statement also showed me some good and bad points about my
presentation but also improvements I could have made on my pitches’ content, for example looking at adding the
social media advertisement slide, showing the products being advertised on a social media of some sort, for example
Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and so on.
Here is evidence of my pitch presentation on Prezi, which is the application I
used in order to present my pitch in a more professional and known manner
to my peers. Prezi offered much more freedom when it came to the
presentation of the Pitch, in a sense that it allowed me to place the slides
where I wanted them to be, and to make it flow in the order I wanted it to
flow, which was to follow the name of the two magazines, NXT EP and 313.
Materials Used
For the materials of my presentation, I used Microsoft Power Point initially, to create the slides with all of the information on them, which
allowed me to add images and other files onto the presentation, which linked to the pitch. When I had finalized the contents of the pitch, I went
on to Prezi, created an account, and then uploaded my PowerPoint presentation which had my pitch on it, and then placed it into Prezi. Prezi
allowed me to create a background and format for my slides that I wouldn't be able to get out of PowerPoint. For example, I was able to create
both of the names of the magazines “NXT EP” and “313”, out of slides, and then place the slides from the Pitch into this template. It also allowed
me to create animations through it, which animated the transition of the Pitch, slide-to-slide, therefore making my pitch presentation look far
more professional and more interesting in the way that it attracted the audience to keep looking, due to the animations, as it wasn't any old,
simple and boring presentation from a basic application such as PowerPoint. To the left is a screenshot f my PowerPoint Presentation for my Pitch,
with all the slides visible. Further, when looking at certain materials I used, I also used the internet in order to gain access to such things as the
price of the office space and all of the equipment that I would need in order to start up my own magazine company, for example one for “NXT EP”
or “313”. I also used the internet to gain access to Prezi, which I used to present my final version of my Pitch for the two magazines that I had
created.

Below is evidence of the email I sent to my peers who would be seeing the Pitch for my magazines, I sent them the link to the
Survey Monkey page that would allow them to answer my survey and also allow me to see all of their answers, collect results
and further analyze them later on.
I sent this email in order to ensure that they could all access the correct link to my survey and filled it in whilst watching my
presentation, therefore ensuring that the results I collected were true, honest and at the time of them seeing my pitch,
therefore allowing me to get their true opinion on how I did. It is vital that they answer it as it allows me to see how I did in the
pitch on that day, and what I could do in the future to improve my presentations so that I can pitch or sell my ideas and
products in a much better and more convincing manner to my peers. This would ensure that if my future ideas are as good as
these first 2, then I would be able to pitch both and most likely end up having a hard decision on choosing which one to finalize
and go with for publishing, or actually use.
Witness Statement
Below is my Witness Statement, that was completed during the time of my Presentation for the Pitch of my magazine. Through
this, I can see any modifications/ improvements I need to complete in order to amend my work and make it better than it
already is. It also goes through the strengths and weaknesses of my pitch, what I did well and what I could have done better in
order to pitch my magazine better and ‘sell’ it to my peers for what it is worth.
Feedback
From my witness statement, I also gained feedback from my teacher, which went through the good and bad bits of my
presentation, but also what I did well on my work and what I could improve on. For example I was told that I need to look at
the areas highlighted in yellow on my feedback and respond back by completing them correctly and making them green. This
would consist of me going back through my work, working more on it and making it better than it already was, in order to gain
better marks but also a better quality of work to submit. For example, I had to look at how the Magazine will be Marketed as I
didn’t initially mention this in my pitch, so I would go back and create a Facebook page for my magazines that would allow for
advertising, or create social media such as Instagram or Snapchat, to allow people to follow my magazines and want to buy
them. I then had to look at the Spending Power of the Target Audience and also the Marketing Costs, which link with the
Marketing of the Magazine. By completing all of these corrections, it will allow me to have ticked off everything that is in the
mark scheme and allow me to get as many marks as I possibly can for this piece of coursework.

From the screenshots of the Survey Monkey answers above, we can see that in the first question, all 8 people who answered
said ‘Yes’, that the front covers that I created were relevant to the music genre that they were aimed towards, which shows
me that the front covers had been designed and edited correctly for their purpose of being used for the Hip Hop and Rap
genre. Secondly, when looking at the second question, this looked at my presentation of the Pitch, and how I presented it, but
also if there was anything I could improve on. For example, one person said that I should “Cut down the Umm” in my
presentation, and I agree as this downgrades the presentation and makes me seem unprepared but also anxious. Next,
someone said that I should “Know the figures off the top of” my head, which I should do seeing as though it is MY magazine
that I created and I am pitching to my peers, therefore should know it enough to remember all of the figures from conducting
my initial research in order to see how much everything would cost.

Next, when looking at question 3, “How well do
you think I presented my Pitch?”, 1 person gave
me a rating of 7, 2 people gave me a rating of 8,
4 people gave me a rating of 9 and 1 person
gave me a rating of 10. This indicates to me that
I presented my pitch as a whole very well, and
had minimal but crucial mistakes in the
presentation of it, for example the “Umm” and
me standing in front of the interactive
whiteboard, and not fully allowing people to see
the slides of my presentation.
Secondly, when looking at question 4, 2 people
chose to change the Theme of my Front Covers,
2 people then chose to change the Text Font of
my Front Covers, and 2 people chose to change
the Social Media Icons of my Front Covers. This
would indicate to me that maybe they didn’tlike
the color scheme or fonts that I used for my
Front Covers, but also the customized Social
Media Icons that I created specifically to fit the
Background Colors and Theme of the Front
Covers.

Then, looking at question 5, “What did you
think was the best part of my Chosen Front
Cover”, 1 person said the Color Scheme, 3
People said the Theme (Majority), 2 People
said the Main Image, and 2 people said the
Front Cover as a Whole. This would indicate
to me that there were some mixed views
about my front cover and that certain people
liked certain bits of it, and some liked the
front cover as a whole.
Secondly, when looking at question 6, 8 out
of 8 people said that “yes” my proposals
were detailed and did cover all of the things
that they should have done in the first place.
This would then indicate to me that I
completed my proposals correctly in order
for them to cover all of the content that they
should be covering, in order to create my
magazine and pitch it well in the end.

Finally, when looking at Question 7, 8 out of 8 people that answered, said that
“Yes” they do agree with my final choice Magazine Front Cover and DPS, and that
the reasons behind my choices are relevant and make sense. This would then
indicate to me that I chose the better of the two magazines, which would mean
that it would be more successful in the future, bring in more profit and allow for
newer artists or bigger artists to get involved, and recognize my magazine as a
Brand, and not just a media magazine for Rap and Hip Hop. Further it allows me
to see that the reasons to why I chose this magazine to be my final choice, were
reasonable and good, ,made sense and had meaning behind them, otherwise my
peers wouldn’t agree with me and would have said no, but also would have
chosen the second idea for the magazines, which I believed was the more
unsuccessful one out of the two, even though I preferred the DPS from the
second idea and the Front Cover from the first idea, which I chose as my final
choice.
Pitch Improvements
In order to improve my pitch, I had to finish off and include certain things that were missing, that were pointed out in my
Witness Statement. The first one that I had to complete was the Marketing of the Magazine, and how exactly it would be
marketed, for example creating profiles on the social medias of Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter, and advertising the
magazine here as a starting point.
The second thing I had to ensure I added and finished, was to add the Spending Power of my Target audience, which allowed
me to see exactly who would be buying the magazine, and allowed me to specify who would be reading it or in a sense, who
the magazine would be mostly directed towards, so the target audience. The spending power allowed me to see what kind of
people would be able to afford my magazine at the price in which I have chosen retail it at, and who wouldn’t, but also who
would be most likely to buy the subscription of the magazine, and choose to receive the magazine every time it comes out,
therefore not missing a single issue of the magazine, and so allowing themselves to stay on top of all of the rap and hip hop
news that they would need to know about their favorite artist and genre of music.
Finally, I had to add and finish the Marketing Costs of my magazine, on advertisements, but also the sales in the shops it would
be found in, and also include the cost of the annual Subscription, which is a key fact that my peers would need to know for my
magazine, including my publisher as this would determine how much profit would be made annually on top of the money that
would be incoming from the regular, normal sales of the magazine in retail.

Production Plan For Chosen Magazine
Calendar Events
There are no other dates in conflict with my magazine being distributed apart from the fact that the final day of the production
plan ends on a Sunday when people generally do not work, which is also the distribution day, meaning that the magazines will
have to be distributed in the early hours of Monday morning in order to for the customer base to get their magazines first thing
in the morning and get their hands on the news they want to get on their favourite artist.
My magazine will be distributed on a Monday which is the day after the final day of the production plan as the final day lands
on a Sunday, therefore the magazines will have to be sent out to retailers the morning after the final day for people to get
their magazines as soon as possible, and for us as a company to get news and reviews on this issue of the Magazine.
My magazine will be released in January 2017, this is a good month to release this issue of the magazine because with a new
year, comes new music and a large number of new artists that are up and coming, will be open to get signed by new labels and
so will be looking to get an interview with a magazine so that they can get their music and their name out as soon as possible
in order to start making money fro themselves. Secondly it’s a good time to publish a magazine because, people will be
expecting new music due to the new year and so will be eager to go into music magazines and find new artists that they would
like or think have potential and so give them a chance and start listening to their music and become one of their fans from a
very early stage in their career.
Legal and Ethical Issues
• The IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organization), has a set of rules called the Editor’s Code of Practice, in which the editor of a magazine, newspaper or
any other form of media, has to follow a specific set of rules set by this Organization. The code itself is written by the Editors’ Code Committee and further
enforced by the IPSO. The latest version of the Editors’ Code of Practice came into effect on 1 January 2016. the code is there to set the highest professional
standards in the publishing industry and ensure that no information is misinterpreted or misleading, but further that no privacy is breached of other people.
• They focus specifically on the categories of, Accuracy, Privacy, Harassment, Intrusion into grief or shock, Reporting Suicide, Children, Children in sex cases,
Hospitals, Reporting of crime, Clandestine devices and subterfuge, Victims of sexual assault, Discrimination, Financial journalism, Confidential sources, Witness
payments in criminal trials and Payment to criminals. They are all of the categories that are included in the Editor’s Code of Practice, which include a specific set
of rules that the editor must follow, under each category. By having these rules they are ensuring that no information or facts are misinterpreted about a
person, further that no rights are abused and that respect is shown to people by following their privacy rules, if for example they ask fro some information to
not be ‘leaked’ or released to the public.
• Initially it was the PCC (Press Complaints Commission) that dealt with these rules and set specific standards that editors would have to follow, and now this has
been taken over by the IPSO.
• It is important that as a Magazine company, we do not include any misleading information in our magazine articles or generally the magazine as a whole as it
would be breaching the Editors Code of Practice from the IPSO, therefore leading to legal and ethical issues with both the IPSO and also what the article is about
and the misleading information has been included on, or about. By breaching the Editors Code of Practice it would mean that we would have to rewrite that
article, or say why we published misleading information, and also have to pay legal fees and fines to the IPSO for having broken the Editors Code of Practice and
still published the magazine with that same article in it, knowing that the Code had been breached.

Watermarking
Digital Watermarking is the fact or process of embedding a piece of code in a digital image, video, or audio
file in order to provide copyright information. By doing this it allows the person who embedded the code to
know that the image, or content that they embedded the code in, is strictly theirs and if anyone else tries
to use it, well, they wont because you cannot get rid of watermarks on any kind of content, no matter how
hard you try with editing.
Digital watermarking can be employed for multiple purposes, such as:
• Copyright protection
• Source tracking
• Broadcast tracking, such as watermarked videos from global news organizations
• Hidden communication
There are two types of digital watermarking:
Visible Digital Watermarking: Visible data is embedded as the watermark. This can be a logo or a text that
denotes a digital medium's owner.
Invisible Digital Watermarking: The data embedded is invisible or, in case of audio content, inaudible.
Robust watermarks involve blending signal amplitude with large bandwidth sizes and a short message
length. Frequency domain capabilities and mixed-domain techniques, when added to signals, are believed
to provide the right amount of robustness in order to guard against watermark attacks.
The publisher Playboy has used an invisible form of digital watermarking to detect where its copyrighted
material has been illegally posted on other websites.
Copyright and IP
• “The current act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The law gives the creators of
literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works, sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical
arrangement of published editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used.”
• When looking at the use of Copyright in a magazine we would be looking at examples of images and
adverts from big and smaller companies, that have their logo or specific graphics, such as new
products or posters related to content, or even their own content and logo. They would place the
Copyright sign on the footer of this page of content, or on the base of the image, or even
underneath it, therefore allowing people to know that this content or imagery is owned and made
by this company, and cannot be used by other people for commercial uses unless granted so by the
company itself.
• If people do not follow these rules then they can be prosecuted and jailed for using other peoples
content or imagery without their permission. But this can work both ways as companies can use
peoples work from smaller businesses or places of work, without having their authority, and if this is
found out, then the smaller business or company can try and sue the business for what they have
done, or simply ask them to pay a smaller fee towards the use of their content or imagery.

• When looking at examples of each Sub-Category of protection, we could look at Criminal Records,
and how they tend to be a major part of how information gets out and twisted about artists or
celebrities. So in order for the magazine to follow these rules about the confidential information
that an artist may state about themselves in an interview, they must not change or misinterpret the
information given to them by the artist, or not publicize it at all if this is the wish of the artist. This
can be due to a few reasons such as the persona of the artist and how they feel it would be
interpreted by their fans or further audience, and this is vital as they do not want to suddenly
disappoint their fans or audience in a sense that it would make them stop listening to this artist’s
music. This is why information such as this, is sometimes strictly between the artist and the person
interviewing them for a magazine or article of a sort.
• Further we could look at how ‘Accurate’ the information that is published, should be, and why.
When an interview is conducted with an artist, the information or facts that they give about certain
topics or specific people, then the information, as before, should not be misinterpreted or given out
falsely. This is because the information would then be false, and the blame would go towards the
artist, instead of the Interviewer, editing team or publishing company, whom may have made the
mistake. Therefore, fans will lose their trust and love for this artist and will most likely not listen to
what they say any longer.

Data Protection Act 1988
The Data Protection Act controls how your personal information is used
by organisations, businesses or the government.
Everyone responsible for using data has to follow strict rules called ‘data
protection principles’. They must make sure the information is:
• Used fairly and lawfully
• Used for limited, specifically stated purposes
• Used in a way that is adequate, relevant and not excessive
• Accurate
• Kept for no longer than is absolutely necessary
• Handled according to people’s data protection rights
• Kept safe and secure
• Not transferred outside the European Economic Area without
adequate protection
There is stronger legal protection for more sensitive information, such as:
• Ethnic background
• Political opinions
• Religious beliefs
• Health
• Sexual health

Editors Code Of Practice

• Accuracy: When my magazine looks to follow the rules of the category of Accuracy, we would have to ensure that we follow these
exact rules that have been set by the IPSO:
i)The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported
by the text.
ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and — where
appropriate — an apology published. In cases involving IPSO, due prominence should be as required by the regulator.
iii) A fair opportunity to reply to significant inaccuracies should be given, when reasonably called for.
iv) The Press, while free to editorialise and campaign, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.
v) A publication must report fairly and accurately the outcome of an action for defamation to which it has been a party, unless an
agreed settlement states otherwise, or an agreed statement is published.
These rules, if followed, generally ensure that the magazine does’t breach any accuracy rules, in a sense that
they do not publish information that is inaccurate or false, or that makes the person that the information is on,
look bad or worse than they already do, or simply misinterprets the situation. By doing this it ensures that the
reader will get information that is 100% accurate from the magazine, but also ensures that readers of the
magazine will be coming back to read more issues of this magazine due to the information being so accurate
and good. So whilst being strict with what they must include and the rules they must follow when publishing a
magazine, they will get benefits such as a regular customer base.
Editors Code Of Practice
• Privacy: When my magazine looks to follow the rules of the category of Privacy, we would have to ensure that they follow these
exact rules that have been set by the IPSO:
• i) Everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and correspondence, including digital
communications.
• ii) Editors will be expected to justify intrusions into any individual's private life without consent. Account will be taken of the
complainant's own public disclosures of information.
• iii) It is unacceptable to photograph individuals, without their consent, in public or private places where there is a reasonable
expectation of privacy.
Risk Assessment
When looking at the Risk Assessment for my magazine, I would look at the document I had to
create for the Release form for the Photography. This includes vital information that the model
being photographed would need to know and confirm in order for me to use for my Front Covers
and Double Page Spreads and also be able to edit them to my liking. The release form allows the
model to gain authority of what happens with the images as in the form, they have the final
decision as to whether or not I will be able to use, publish, post or even print the images before
and after all of the editing has occurred. It also discloses that they will be receiving 20% of all the
profits made by either the Photographer or the Publishing Company for the use of the images
taken on this Photo-shoot.
I would then look at the editing side of the images, and how there are risks within Photoshop and
the editing process as a whole. In order to avoid risks of images being pixilated or deformed in
some way through using the magic wand tool or simply the resizing tool, I would have to ensure
that all of the edges and outlines on the image are smooth using the rubber tool, and I would
have to ensure that when I am resizing an element in an image or the image as whole, I hold the
Shift button when resizing, as this ensures that the transformation of the image remains clean
with no pixilated edges or any sort of pixilation occurring at any point through the editorial
process, and so ensuring that the final product of both the Front Cover and the Double Page
spread look as professional as possible and remain to a certain level of professional Quality.

Chosen/ Favorite Magazine
I have chosen this magazine to be my final choice
because of the color scheme and the way in
which it is presented as whole. Generally, the
name has more of a meaning than 313 which is
the name of the second magazine, and I feel it
appeals more to the reader due to the way in
which, at the moment, the way that the music
business is going, people are looking ahead into
the next load of people and artists that are
coming up, so this magazine would be more
relevant to them, and so would sell more copies
and bring in more profits for the business, which
would further allow us to create partnerships
with much bigger companies and newer and
bigger artists that are new or coming up in the
music industry.
Conclusion
In conclusion to this unit (LO4 and LO5), we can see that it covers a wide range of topics that vary, it went from looking at the
Environment of the Presentation, the Evidence of the Pitch, the Materials that were used for the Pitch and for the Presentation
itself, then the Witness Statement Evidence and Analysis and the Survey Monkey Evidence and analysis, in LO4. In LO5 the unit
looked at certain aspects of the magazine and specific details of it, such as the Production Plan, the Calendar Events, The
improvements I made and could have made on the Pitch Presentation, and then looking at all of the Legal and Ethical issues
that would be relevant to the magazine, along with all of the Editor’s Code of Practice for the editing side of it, and the final
document that was looked at was the Risk Assessment which included actual risks that could have occurred during the photo-
shoot or even during the editorial process, all of which have been explained in detail and evidenced.
As a whole we can see that LO4 and LO5 both cover the aspects of the magazine’s editorial and manufacture process, along
with the majority of the vital paperwork and legal work that would be relevant, necessary and a requirement for a magazine
company to accomplish, fulfill and comply to, because if they don’t, it could jeopardize the work that has been done to the
front cover and double page spread, but also any of the legal side of things such as any other paperwork, images and rights
that they may have had on the work, it could also make the company lose their publishing license, and so lead them to not
being able to operate any longer as they have not been able to follow the rules and regulations of having a publishing media
company that deals with the manufacture and editing of such things as imagery and magazines.

Unit 13 – LO4 & LO5 Planning and Pitching a Print Based Media Product

  • 2. Environment of Presentation Below is evidence of the environment in which I completed the presentation of my Pitch in for my magazine. From the images, you can see that I used a slide changer, bottom right, which helped with presenting, as it meant I didn’t have to keep going back and forth to using the keyboard in order to change to the next slide. I then used an Apple Mac computer, which loaded the presentation, which linked to the projector and then to the interactive whiteboard which allowed my peers to see my presentation and all of my magazine ideas in further detail, but also see the images and aspects of the Front Covers and Double Page Spreads, in a much larger scale.

Evidence of Pitch When completing and presenting my pitch, we used a camera to record the whole presentation as evidence, but also as a way to conduct feedback for myself by having others look over it but also having myself look over it, and being able to identify exactly what things I could improve on in terms of presenting or pitching a new product to my peers. A positive comment that I received on my Survey Monkey responses about my presentation skills was that, after the presentation was complete, and I had asked for feedback based on what my peers had just seen, some people said that there were “No improvements needed” for my pitch, therefore allowing me to see exactly how well I presented my pitch and how I came across confident to my peers in presenting my ideas and pitching my 2 magazines, and then coming to a final conclusion in choice of which one I would prefer to use as a final product, or as the ‘better’ idea of the 2 magazines. A negative comment I received was that I was ‘Uhmming’ a lot during my presentation, which would show a sign of not knowing what I am doing or anxiety or fear about presenting the pitch. This would reflect badly on the pitch because it would make my peers think that I am not confident in the products that I have created due to the lack in confidence I had in presenting them. I also had to sign a witness statement saying that I had presented my pitch to my peers, presenting them with the 2 products that I had created. The witness statement also showed me some good and bad points about my presentation but also improvements I could have made on my pitches’ content, for example looking at adding the social media advertisement slide, showing the products being advertised on a social media of some sort, for example Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and so on. Here is evidence of my pitch presentation on Prezi, which is the application I used in order to present my pitch in a more professional and known manner to my peers. Prezi offered much more freedom when it came to the presentation of the Pitch, in a sense that it allowed me to place the slides where I wanted them to be, and to make it flow in the order I wanted it to flow, which was to follow the name of the two magazines, NXT EP and 313.
  • 4. Materials Used For the materials of my presentation, I used Microsoft Power Point initially, to create the slides with all of the information on them, which allowed me to add images and other files onto the presentation, which linked to the pitch. When I had finalized the contents of the pitch, I went on to Prezi, created an account, and then uploaded my PowerPoint presentation which had my pitch on it, and then placed it into Prezi. Prezi allowed me to create a background and format for my slides that I wouldn't be able to get out of PowerPoint. For example, I was able to create both of the names of the magazines “NXT EP” and “313”, out of slides, and then place the slides from the Pitch into this template. It also allowed me to create animations through it, which animated the transition of the Pitch, slide-to-slide, therefore making my pitch presentation look far more professional and more interesting in the way that it attracted the audience to keep looking, due to the animations, as it wasn't any old, simple and boring presentation from a basic application such as PowerPoint. To the left is a screenshot f my PowerPoint Presentation for my Pitch, with all the slides visible. Further, when looking at certain materials I used, I also used the internet in order to gain access to such things as the price of the office space and all of the equipment that I would need in order to start up my own magazine company, for example one for “NXT EP” or “313”. I also used the internet to gain access to Prezi, which I used to present my final version of my Pitch for the two magazines that I had created.

Survey Monkey Evidence Below is evidence of the email I sent to my peers who would be seeing the Pitch for my magazines, I sent them the link to the Survey Monkey page that would allow them to answer my survey and also allow me to see all of their answers, collect results and further analyze them later on. I sent this email in order to ensure that they could all access the correct link to my survey and filled it in whilst watching my presentation, therefore ensuring that the results I collected were true, honest and at the time of them seeing my pitch, therefore allowing me to get their true opinion on how I did. It is vital that they answer it as it allows me to see how I did in the pitch on that day, and what I could do in the future to improve my presentations so that I can pitch or sell my ideas and products in a much better and more convincing manner to my peers. This would ensure that if my future ideas are as good as these first 2, then I would be able to pitch both and most likely end up having a hard decision on choosing which one to finalize and go with for publishing, or actually use.

  • 7. Witness Statement Below is my Witness Statement, that was completed during the time of my Presentation for the Pitch of my magazine. Through this, I can see any modifications/ improvements I need to complete in order to amend my work and make it better than it already is. It also goes through the strengths and weaknesses of my pitch, what I did well and what I could have done better in order to pitch my magazine better and ‘sell’ it to my peers for what it is worth.

Feedback From my witness statement, I also gained feedback from my teacher, which went through the good and bad bits of my presentation, but also what I did well on my work and what I could improve on. For example I was told that I need to look at the areas highlighted in yellow on my feedback and respond back by completing them correctly and making them green. This would consist of me going back through my work, working more on it and making it better than it already was, in order to gain better marks but also a better quality of work to submit. For example, I had to look at how the Magazine will be Marketed as I didn’t initially mention this in my pitch, so I would go back and create a Facebook page for my magazines that would allow for advertising, or create social media such as Instagram or Snapchat, to allow people to follow my magazines and want to buy them. I then had to look at the Spending Power of the Target Audience and also the Marketing Costs, which link with the Marketing of the Magazine. By completing all of these corrections, it will allow me to have ticked off everything that is in the mark scheme and allow me to get as many marks as I possibly can for this piece of coursework.

Survey Monkey From the screenshots of the Survey Monkey answers above, we can see that in the first question, all 8 people who answered said ‘Yes’, that the front covers that I created were relevant to the music genre that they were aimed towards, which shows me that the front covers had been designed and edited correctly for their purpose of being used for the Hip Hop and Rap genre. Secondly, when looking at the second question, this looked at my presentation of the Pitch, and how I presented it, but also if there was anything I could improve on. For example, one person said that I should “Cut down the Umm” in my presentation, and I agree as this downgrades the presentation and makes me seem unprepared but also anxious. Next, someone said that I should “Know the figures off the top of” my head, which I should do seeing as though it is MY magazine that I created and I am pitching to my peers, therefore should know it enough to remember all of the figures from conducting my initial research in order to see how much everything would cost.

Survey Monkey Continued Next, when looking at question 3, “How well do you think I presented my Pitch?”, 1 person gave me a rating of 7, 2 people gave me a rating of 8, 4 people gave me a rating of 9 and 1 person gave me a rating of 10. This indicates to me that I presented my pitch as a whole very well, and had minimal but crucial mistakes in the presentation of it, for example the “Umm” and me standing in front of the interactive whiteboard, and not fully allowing people to see the slides of my presentation. Secondly, when looking at question 4, 2 people chose to change the Theme of my Front Covers, 2 people then chose to change the Text Font of my Front Covers, and 2 people chose to change the Social Media Icons of my Front Covers. This would indicate to me that maybe they didn’tlike the color scheme or fonts that I used for my Front Covers, but also the customized Social Media Icons that I created specifically to fit the Background Colors and Theme of the Front Covers.

Survey Monkey Continued Then, looking at question 5, “What did you think was the best part of my Chosen Front Cover”, 1 person said the Color Scheme, 3 People said the Theme (Majority), 2 People said the Main Image, and 2 people said the Front Cover as a Whole. This would indicate to me that there were some mixed views about my front cover and that certain people liked certain bits of it, and some liked the front cover as a whole. Secondly, when looking at question 6, 8 out of 8 people said that “yes” my proposals were detailed and did cover all of the things that they should have done in the first place. This would then indicate to me that I completed my proposals correctly in order for them to cover all of the content that they should be covering, in order to create my magazine and pitch it well in the end.

Survey Monkey Continued Finally, when looking at Question 7, 8 out of 8 people that answered, said that “Yes” they do agree with my final choice Magazine Front Cover and DPS, and that the reasons behind my choices are relevant and make sense. This would then indicate to me that I chose the better of the two magazines, which would mean that it would be more successful in the future, bring in more profit and allow for newer artists or bigger artists to get involved, and recognize my magazine as a Brand, and not just a media magazine for Rap and Hip Hop. Further it allows me to see that the reasons to why I chose this magazine to be my final choice, were reasonable and good, ,made sense and had meaning behind them, otherwise my peers wouldn’t agree with me and would have said no, but also would have chosen the second idea for the magazines, which I believed was the more unsuccessful one out of the two, even though I preferred the DPS from the second idea and the Front Cover from the first idea, which I chose as my final choice.
  • 13. Pitch Improvements In order to improve my pitch, I had to finish off and include certain things that were missing, that were pointed out in my Witness Statement. The first one that I had to complete was the Marketing of the Magazine, and how exactly it would be marketed, for example creating profiles on the social medias of Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter, and advertising the magazine here as a starting point. The second thing I had to ensure I added and finished, was to add the Spending Power of my Target audience, which allowed me to see exactly who would be buying the magazine, and allowed me to specify who would be reading it or in a sense, who the magazine would be mostly directed towards, so the target audience. The spending power allowed me to see what kind of people would be able to afford my magazine at the price in which I have chosen retail it at, and who wouldn’t, but also who would be most likely to buy the subscription of the magazine, and choose to receive the magazine every time it comes out, therefore not missing a single issue of the magazine, and so allowing themselves to stay on top of all of the rap and hip hop news that they would need to know about their favorite artist and genre of music. Finally, I had to add and finish the Marketing Costs of my magazine, on advertisements, but also the sales in the shops it would be found in, and also include the cost of the annual Subscription, which is a key fact that my peers would need to know for my magazine, including my publisher as this would determine how much profit would be made annually on top of the money that would be incoming from the regular, normal sales of the magazine in retail.

The teams will all work together to also manage the schedule of the work that needs to be done. The magazine’s editing team will decide what topics or content will be covered within this issue of the magazine. They will go through the main content of this issue of the magazine, the biggest story at the moment or the biggest artist at the moment, will end up being on the front cover. At this stage the teams get the content from ‘In- House’ and ‘External’ writers whilst working on and putting in/ deciding on the graphics and the artwork of the magazine. This is a vital stage because the teams have got to get the artwork and the graphics whilst making it look professional and relevant to the brand (Brand Identity) of the Magazine (NXT EP or 313). At this stage the teams get the content from ‘In- House’ and ‘External’ writers whilst working on and putting in/ deciding on the graphics and the artwork of the magazine. This is a vital stage because the teams have got to get the artwork and the graphics whilst making it look professional and relevant to the brand (Brand Identity) of the Magazine (NXT EP or 313). Calendar Events There are no other dates in conflict with my magazine being distributed apart from the fact that the final day of the production plan ends on a Sunday when people generally do not work, which is also the distribution day, meaning that the magazines will have to be distributed in the early hours of Monday morning in order to for the customer base to get their magazines first thing in the morning and get their hands on the news they want to get on their favourite artist. My magazine will be distributed on a Monday which is the day after the final day of the production plan as the final day lands on a Sunday, therefore the magazines will have to be sent out to retailers the morning after the final day for people to get their magazines as soon as possible, and for us as a company to get news and reviews on this issue of the Magazine. My magazine will be released in January 2017, this is a good month to release this issue of the magazine because with a new year, comes new music and a large number of new artists that are up and coming, will be open to get signed by new labels and so will be looking to get an interview with a magazine so that they can get their music and their name out as soon as possible in order to start making money fro themselves. Secondly it’s a good time to publish a magazine because, people will be expecting new music due to the new year and so will be eager to go into music magazines and find new artists that they would like or think have potential and so give them a chance and start listening to their music and become one of their fans from a very early stage in their career.

Legal and Ethical Issues • The IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organization), has a set of rules called the Editor’s Code of Practice, in which the editor of a magazine, newspaper or any other form of media, has to follow a specific set of rules set by this Organization. The code itself is written by the Editors’ Code Committee and further enforced by the IPSO. The latest version of the Editors’ Code of Practice came into effect on 1 January 2016. the code is there to set the highest professional standards in the publishing industry and ensure that no information is misinterpreted or misleading, but further that no privacy is breached of other people. • They focus specifically on the categories of, Accuracy, Privacy, Harassment, Intrusion into grief or shock, Reporting Suicide, Children, Children in sex cases, Hospitals, Reporting of crime, Clandestine devices and subterfuge, Victims of sexual assault, Discrimination, Financial journalism, Confidential sources, Witness payments in criminal trials and Payment to criminals. They are all of the categories that are included in the Editor’s Code of Practice, which include a specific set of rules that the editor must follow, under each category. By having these rules they are ensuring that no information or facts are misinterpreted about a person, further that no rights are abused and that respect is shown to people by following their privacy rules, if for example they ask fro some information to not be ‘leaked’ or released to the public. • Initially it was the PCC (Press Complaints Commission) that dealt with these rules and set specific standards that editors would have to follow, and now this has been taken over by the IPSO. • It is important that as a Magazine company, we do not include any misleading information in our magazine articles or generally the magazine as a whole as it would be breaching the Editors Code of Practice from the IPSO, therefore leading to legal and ethical issues with both the IPSO and also what the article is about and the misleading information has been included on, or about.   • 18. Watermarking Digital Watermarking is the fact or process of embedding a piece of code in a digital image, video, or audio file in order to provide copyright information. By doing this it allows the person who embedded the code to know that the image, or content that they embedded the code in, is strictly theirs and if anyone else tries to use it, well, they wont because you cannot get rid of watermarks on any kind of content, no matter how hard you try with editing. Digital watermarking can be employed for multiple purposes, such as: • Copyright protection • Source tracking • Broadcast tracking, such as watermarked videos from global news organizations • Hidden communication There are two types of digital watermarking: Visible Digital Watermarking: Visible data is embedded as the watermark. This can be a logo or a text that denotes a digital medium's owner. Invisible Digital Watermarking: The data embedded is invisible or, in case of audio content, inaudible. Robust watermarks involve blending signal amplitude with large bandwidth sizes and a short message length. Frequency domain capabilities and mixed-domain techniques, when added to signals, are believed to provide the right amount of robustness in order to guard against watermark attacks. The publisher Playboy has used an invisible form of digital watermarking to detect where its copyrighted material has been illegally posted on other websites.
  • 19. Copyright and IP • “The current act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The law gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works, sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical arrangement of published editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used.” • When looking at the use of Copyright in a magazine we would be looking at examples of images and adverts from big and smaller companies, that have their logo or specific graphics, such as new products or posters related to content, or even their own content and logo. They would place the Copyright sign on the footer of this page of content, or on the base of the image, or even underneath it, therefore allowing people to know that this content or imagery is owned and made by this company, and cannot be used by other people for commercial uses unless granted so by the company itself. • If people do not follow these rules then they can be prosecuted and jailed for using other peoples content or imagery without their permission. But this can work both ways as companies can use peoples work from smaller businesses or places of work, without having their authority, and if this is found out, then the smaller business or company can try and sue the business for what they have done, or simply ask them to pay a smaller fee towards the use of their content or imagery. Copyright and IP • When looking at examples of each Sub-Category of protection, we could look at Criminal Records, and how they tend to be a major part of how information gets out and twisted about artists or celebrities. So in order for the magazine to follow these rules about the confidential information that an artist may state about themselves in an interview, they must not change or misinterpret the information given to them by the artist, or not publicize it at all if this is the wish of the artist. This can be due to a few reasons such as the persona of the artist and how they feel it would be interpreted by their fans or further audience, and this is vital as they do not want to suddenly disappoint their fans or audience in a sense that it would make them stop listening to this artist’s music. This is why information such as this, is sometimes strictly between the artist and the person interviewing them for a magazine or article of a sort. • Further we could look at how ‘Accurate’ the information that is published, should be, and why. When an interview is conducted with an artist, the information or facts that they give about certain topics or specific people, then the information, as before, should not be misinterpreted or given out falsely. This is because the information would then be false, and the blame would go towards the artist, instead of the Interviewer, editing team or publishing company, whom may have made the mistake.   • 21. Data Protection Act 1988 The Data Protection Act controls how your personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government. Everyone responsible for using data has to follow strict rules called ‘data protection principles’. Editors Code Of Practice • Accuracy: When my magazine looks to follow the rules of the category of Accuracy, we would have to ensure that we follow these exact rules that have been set by the IPSO: i)The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images, including headlines not supported by the text. ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and — where appropriate — an apology published. In cases involving IPSO, due prominence should be as required by the regulator. iii) A fair opportunity to reply to significant inaccuracies should be given, when reasonably called for. iv) The Press, while free to editorialise and campaign, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact. v) A publication must report fairly and accurately the outcome of an action for defamation to which it has been a party, unless an agreed settlement states otherwise, or an agreed statement is published. These rules, if followed, generally ensure that the magazine does’t breach any accuracy rules, in a sense that they do not publish information that is inaccurate or false, or that makes the person that the information is on, look bad or worse than they already do, or simply misinterprets the situation. By doing this it ensures that the reader will get information that is 100% accurate from the magazine, but also ensures that readers of the magazine will be coming back to read more issues of this magazine due to the information being so accurate and good. So whilst being strict with what they must include and the rules they must follow when publishing a magazine, they will get benefits such as a regular customer base.

Editors Code Of Practice • Privacy: When my magazine looks to follow the rules of the category of Privacy, we would have to ensure that they follow these exact rules that have been set by the IPSO: • i) Everyone is entitled to respect for his or her private and family life, home, health and correspondence, including digital communications. • ii) Editors will be expected to justify intrusions into any individual's private life without consent. Account will be taken of the complainant's own public disclosures of information. • iii) It is unacceptable to photograph individuals, without their consent, in public or private places where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.
  • 25. Risk Assessment When looking at the Risk Assessment for my magazine, I would look at the document I had to create for the Release form for the Photography. This includes vital information that the model being photographed would need to know and confirm in order for me to use for my Front Covers and Double Page Spreads and also be able to edit them to my liking. The release form allows the model to gain authority of what happens with the images as in the form, they have the final decision as to whether or not I will be able to use, publish, post or even print the images before and after all of the editing has occurred. It also discloses that they will be receiving 20% of all the profits made by either the Photographer or the Publishing Company for the use of the images taken on this Photo-shoot. I would then look at the editing side of the images, and how there are risks within Photoshop and the editing process as a whole. In order to avoid risks of images being pixilated or deformed in some way through using the magic wand tool or simply the resizing tool, I would have to ensure that all of the edges and outlines on the image are smooth using the rubber tool, and I would have to ensure that when I am resizing an element in an image or the image as whole, I hold the Shift button when resizing, as this ensures that the transformation of the image remains clean with no pixilated edges or any sort of pixilation occurring at any point through the editorial process, and so ensuring that the final product of both the Front Cover and the Double Page spread look as professional as possible and remain to a certain level of professional Quality.   • 28. Chosen/ Favorite Magazine I have chosen this magazine to be my final choice because of the color scheme and the way in which it is presented as whole. Generally, the name has more of a meaning than 313 which is the name of the second magazine, and I feel it appeals more to the reader due to the way in which, at the moment, the way that the music business is going, people are looking ahead into the next load of people and artists that are coming up, so this magazine would be more relevant to them, and so would sell more copies and bring in more profits for the business, which would further allow us to create partnerships with much bigger companies and newer and bigger artists that are new or coming up in the music industry.

Conclusion In conclusion to this unit (LO4 and LO5), we can see that it covers a wide range of topics that vary, it went from looking at the Environment of the Presentation, the Evidence of the Pitch, the Materials that were used for the Pitch and for the Presentation itself, then the Witness Statement Evidence and Analysis and the Survey Monkey Evidence and analysis, in LO4. In LO5 the unit looked at certain aspects of the magazine and specific details of it, such as the Production Plan, the Calendar Events, The improvements I made and could have made on the Pitch Presentation, and then looking at all of the Legal and Ethical issues that would be relevant to the magazine, along with all of the Editor’s Code of Practice for the editing side of it, and the final document that was looked at was the Risk Assessment which included actual risks that could have occurred during the photo- shoot or even during the editorial process, all of which have been explained in detail and evidenced. As a whole we can see that LO4 and LO5 both cover the aspects of the magazine’s editorial and manufacture process, along with the majority of the vital paperwork and legal work that would be relevant, necessary and a requirement for a magazine company to accomplish, fulfill and comply to, because if they don’t, it could jeopardize the work that has been done to the front cover and double page spread, but also any of the legal side of things such as any other paperwork, images and rights that they may have had on the work, it could also make the company lose their publishing license, and so lead them to not being able to operate any longer as they have not been able to follow the rules and regulations of having a publishing media company that deals with the manufacture and editing of such things as imagery and magazines.
