9. Academic History
• When I picked my GCSE options, I opted to focus my study in the technology
department.
• I chose to study: Creative Media Production, Electronics and Computer Science.
• The media course is the most relevant to what I am now doing. It is created a
foundation knowledge of the processes in the industry. Working through the
PowerPoints has shown me the basic process of working from start of planning to
end of post production.
10. Current Study
• During my college course, I have learnt what it takes to create an end product. I have
picked up skills about the production process.
• It has prepared me for university by letting me experiment and produce work for all
sectors of the industry. This has enabled me to gain an understanding of what goes
into making products in particular software. Because of this I have been able to
narrow down my options.
• During my year one FMP I focused on video production, this taught me the funder
mentals of media production.
11. The Future
• I have not decided exactly what I want to do.
• I am looking at courses in Broadcast media, Media production and Events
production.
• University would help me to gain experience in what I want to do.
12. Outside College
• Outside college I have a part time job. I work about 3 days a week. I work in the audio / visual events
industry.
• My current role is warehouse based. The main part of it is responding to a list. I have to get kit off the
shelves around the unit. After I have collected it, I need to make sure everything is complete and
there is nothing important missing. From this process I am continuing to gain an understanding of
what is needed for particular items to work. I am becoming more familiar with the equipment.
Before I had the job I wasn’t even sure what most of things were.
• I load and weigh the vans.
• As part of the job, I get the opportunity to sometimes go out to site. On site, there is often
opportunity to rig items that I have taken in vans. This is fantastic opportunity to gain hands on
experience on location, while being taught by people who are experienced in the industry.
• The place I work at is varied. We cover basically all parts of industry. This means I am gaining
knowledge of Audio, Video, Rigging and lighting. There is potential future opportunity to work with
sound and video editing.
• This experience in industry puts me better off than other candidates for university courses. This is
because I am gaining knowledge about the media industry. This is better than a part time retail job
because it is more relevant to career progression. I have to deal with orders being collected by
members of the public. This is giving me some of the people skills a part time retail job would.
13. Conclusion
• University would give me the chance to increase my qualification levels. A degree
would put me in a better position than people who only have A-levels.
• Going into the sector that I choose, employers will be looking at dedication levels.
Having a degree would show I have committed myself to working on the industry.
• Having work experience in a media background increases my existing knowledge. If
this knowledge can be transferred into my course it could mean higher grades.
• My interest in the industry means I am a good candidate. This is because in order to
produce good work, you need to enjoy what your doing. Having an interest means
you are less likely to get bored and drop out.
15. Which projects have you enjoyed most this year &
why?
• I have most enjoyed producing work in the video sector. The projects I found the
best to put together were the Music video and the FMP. I have found I also have an
interest in creating on screen graphics and effects using Adobe After Effects.
• I have enjoyed looking into the idea of audio production to go with the video.
Something I am interested in trying is making my own background music to go with
video projects.
• I have also enjoyed using Photoshop to work with and manipulate existing images
16. Which projects have you least enjoyed [& why]?
• The animation section of the adventure project was something I found to be boring.
It was repetitive. I found the process of clicking the pixels took ages.
• I wouldn’t say I am a very artistic person and having to create background artwork
for the animation was something I found challenging. I struggled creating something
I was happy with.
17. What is you biggest success
• So far, the thing I think went the best was the filming process for the FMP. I am
happy with how the majority of the shots I used turned out.
• I think that I have managed to improve my Premier Pro knowledge. I think the best
example of this is in my showreel. Although there is always room for improvement, I
still think its my best project to date.
18. What has been your biggest mistake in coursework
• I have always struggled with self organisation. During the FMP, I managed my time
very badly.
• I delayed doing the written work. The lack of planning lowed the quality of my end
product.
• It also ended up causing unnecessary stress.
19. Which skills do you think you have develop most?
• One of the things I have improved is my knowledge of the Adobe suit software. I
have gained a greater understanding of features and how to use them.
• This year has also provided me with a much greater understanding of the
production process. I have learnt what it takes to produce something from start to
finish.
20. What area are aiming to specialise in during Year 2?
• So far, I have found the best projects to be the video ones.
• During the second year, I am looking to work with video. I don’t want to just edit
shots together, I am interested in looking at the features offered in After Effects.
Editor's Notes
Write a short paragraph about subjects you’ve already studied at school/college that have helped prepare you for your chosen courses at University- level 2 or GCSE level. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Talk about this course- Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology. Reference how it has helped you prepare for your chosen courses at University. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Reference specific projects and software/hardware that you are familiar with.
What do you want to do in the future (ensure it is related to the subjects you are applying for). How will university help you to achieve that?
What do you do outside college? Any hobbies, part time jobs, client work, volunteer work? How does this make you a better candidate for university study?
Summarise why you want to go to university. What will it help you achieve? Why are you a good candidate?

We learn from our mistakes! So you need to talk about them!
This isn’t just technical skills with cameras, software, etc, it could be skills in time management and organisation, etc
