3. Ben Shapiro is an American
conservative political commentator,
author, and lawyer. He was born on
January 15, 1984, in Los Angeles,
California. Shapiro is known for his
conservative views and his criticism
of left-wing politics and social justice
movements.
Ben Shapiro is known globally for
his outspoken conservative views,
his show focuses on issues such as
free speech, limited government and
individual liberty. The show has
gained a large following, particularly
among conservative and libertarian
audiences, and is known for its fast-
paced and often confrontational
style. However, it has also been
criticized by some for promoting
controversial views and for its
confrontational approach to political
discourse.
4. The Joe Rogan Experience is a long-form podcast hosted by
American comedian, UFC commentator, and television host
Joe Rogan. The show began in 2009 and has since become
one of the most popular and influential podcasts in the world.
The podcast covers a wide range of topics, including comedy,
science, politics, sports, and popular culture. Joe Rogan has
interviewed a diverse range of guests, including scientists,
politicians, actors, musicians, athletes, and authors.
Some of the most popular episodes of the show have
featured discussions on controversial topics such as
psychedelics, conspiracy theories, and alternative health
treatments.
The Joe Rogan experience is the most influential podcast for
me for the sole reason that he has many guests on there who
have controversial views and he gives them a platform to
voice these opinions which I agree with. Although many
people will say why does he give these people the time of day
to say what they want but in actual fact it helps people
understand how others think and the reasons behind their
controversial opinions.

7. How ‘Recreational’ drugs could be used in healthcare
Richard Nixon's ‘WAR ON DRUGS’
• 1971 Richard Nixon famously declared ‘war on drugs’, he named drug abuse ‘public enemy number one’.
That war has now been raging for 45 years at an estimated cost of $1 trillion dollars. However,
throughout that time scientists have continuously fraternised with the enemy, conducting research into
potential health and medicinal benefits of certain drugs and other psychoactive substances.
Cannabis
•People have used the marijuana plant to treat their ailments for over 3,000 years. Today, it’s being used to treat chronic
pain, muscle spasms and epilepsy. 3,000 years later, GW Pharmaceuticals recently won the first FDA approval for a
marijuana plant-derived drug this year. Epidiolex, as it is known, is used to treat seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut
or Dravet Syndrome in patients older than 2 years old. These are rare, difficult to control, forms of epilepsy.
Coca leaf extract (cocaine)
•In today’s clinical setting, cocaine is used in highly regulated environments as a topical anaesthetic. When applied to
skin, there are few other substances that share its’ anaesthetic and vasoconstricting properties.
•Coca leaves were thought to originate in the amazon rainforest before spreading to the Andes. The leaves were used by
indigenous tribes as a stimulant – a source of energy and a way to increase heart rate in the high-altitude mountains.
8. How ‘Recreational’ drugs could be used in healthcare
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)
•Traditionally associated with the ‘party drug’ ecstasy, MDMA was first developed by a German pharmaceutical
company in 1912 as a parent compound to synthesize medications that control bleeding.
•In 1990, the FDA commissioned a study into the effects of the drug as an analgesic for terminally ill patients with no
significant breakthroughs. More recently in 2011, the University of Birmingham conducted research into the effects of
a modified version of MDMA being used to treat blood cancers. The study found that certain chemical compounds in
MDMA had excellent cancer-beating properties, but the doses used in the study would have been fatal in humans.
•Whilst there’s clearly a lot more research to be carried out, MDMA could have a part to play in the future treatment
of leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Psilocybin
• Psilocybin is a naturally occurring compound found in a variety of species of, often called ‘magic’,
mushrooms.
• The use of these plants for their psychotropic and hallucinogenic effects has been tracked back to
Aztec times. It’s thought the mushrooms were used to induce a trance-like state which would make
communication with the Gods easier.
• Today research is being conducted into the benefits that these substances can have when treating a
variety of conditions, including OCD, addiction and mood disorders.
9. Music through the decades/songs of
the decade
60s
• The Beatles
• The Who
• The Kinks
70s
• David Bowie
• Fleetwood Mac
• The Jam
80s
• The Style
Council
• The Smiths
• Sisters of
Mercy
10. QUESTLOVE
SUPREME
• The Questlove supreme is a music
based podcast in which Questlove
(Ahmir Thompson) interviews many
different musical legends from the
past and present and digs deep into
the background of how these people
became so big in the music industry. I
am adding this podcast to my
research as for my podcast I am
discussing music throughout the
decades and choosing my favourite
song from those times. The thing that
is most interesting about this podcast
is that listening to the musicians that
appear on the interview you can
really find out how these people
grew up and some of the struggles
they faced getting into the music
business.
11. Absolute radio – THROUGH
THE DECADES
Absolute radio plays a game in which they have
guests on and they go through each decade
starting with the 60s all the way up to present day
and each decade the guest has to pick their
favourite song from an artist in that year. This isn’t
exactly a podcast but it is on very similar to
grounds to one and I think this particular radio
show is most similar to the podcast I am doing as I
am also going through decades of music with a
guest however the guest isn’t as well known as the
ones that go on the radio. The thing that most
interest me when listening is the fact that you can
hear other peoples music tastes and see which
bands and singers they prefer during different
periods of time.
12. Following on from the last slide and looking more in depth at a particular ‘Through the
decades’ episode however this one is with Paul Weller who was the frontman of The
Jam from the late 70s and then created the Style Council after the Jams breakup.
This episode was a lot more interesting to listen to as we are hearing an actual
musician talk about which songs he likes from each decade and understanding why
he appreciates these songs and artists from those years. I would say personally it is
very refreshing to hear someone like Paul Weller who has such vast music
knowledge breakdown his reasonings for how some of the tracks inspired his
personal song writing and how some of the modern day music are keeping the Rock n
Roll spirit alive. Aswell as Paul Weller, Nicky wire from the manic street preachers
also does an episode of songs through the decade and they are both very interesting
to listen to if you don’t really have much music knowledge from in the past then these
episodes will most definitely help broaden your mind about music from the past.
