1. Evaluation Activity 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? There are many selling points to both magazines. For example both magazines have free posters advertised on the cover. Both magazines also show the poster being advertised, like a preview. Both magazines have a main band advertised on the front cover. Clearly the band member I created is fictional but the idea is to feature a band on the front cover which is popular to attract the readers attention and make them want to buy the magazine to read more. I think my image is a stronger one and more likely to sell than KERRANG magazines main image of panic at the disco because my model is striking an interesting pose which looks like there might be a story behind the aggression of the image. Both magazines have a bold master head. Both fonts are edgy and exaggerate the genre of the magazine. The magazines both advertise more bands at the bottom that clearly feature somewhere in the magazine. This is a selling point as the reader will think they are getting more for their money. I challenged KERRANG magazine by giving my master head a sub heading ‘U.K.’s Biggest Music Mag’ This is a selling point as the magazine is advertised as the biggest meaning it would be the one to buy as it has more in it than any other magazine of the same genre. My magazine also advertises the chance to win a guitar and much more. This challenges KERRANG magazine as they do not advertise the chance to win anything. This is a selling point of my magazine as the reader will think they can win prizes as well as having a free poster. KERRANG magazine is distributed in shops and by subscription. KERRANG also has its own radio station, and TV station on sky. KERRANG has its own live music tour which is extremely popular, particularly with the readers of the magazine, and an award ceremony where awards are given to bands who have been voted for by the readers of KERRANG. There is also a website which not only allows you to subscribe to the magazine but also allows you to get new information about bands and music, view podcasts and buy tickets for gigs and concerts. If I was to try to distribute my magazine I would follow the same ways that KERRANG magazine have used as my magazine is similar to KERRANG. KERRANG is owned and published by Bauer Consumer Media in the United Kingdom. Bauer Consumer Media is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg, which operates in 15 countries worldwide.
