New Delhi: I am happy to participate in the National
Press Day commemoration being organised by the
Press Council of India. I convey my greetings to all mem-
bers of the Press Council as well as the entire media fra-
ternity on this special occasion.
p The subject for this year’s discussion is "The impact
and import of cartooning and caricatures as a medium of
expression of opinion”. I understand that the discussions
are dedicated to two legendary cartoonists, R.K. Laxman
and Rajinder Puri, who are no longer with us. I pay trib-
ute to these two individuals who made immense contri-
bution to the art of cartooning as well as public account-
ability and social criticism in our country.
p The Press Council and the Kerala Cartoon Academy
have organized an exhibition of caricatures featuring me
for this occasion. That they have chosen this as a practi-
cal demonstration of the theme of this year’s discussion,
is both welcome and flattering. Cartoons and caricatures
are good stress busters, for the viewing public as well as
those featured in them. The cartoonist captures the
mood of the time and his art lies in being able to lampoon
without hurting, caricature without distorting and to say
with a few strokes of the brush what lengthy articles fail
to express.

New Delhi:The global economic growth
remains weak, with slowdown in several
major economies, volatile financial markets
and competitive devaluation of currencies.
I congratulate the Turkish Presidency for
coordinating efforts on Growth and
Investment strategies and Employment
Plans. We must all now implement our com-
mitments.
To stimulate growth, we need to enhance
public investments, not just rely on monetary
policy.
G20’s continued call to Central Banks for
careful communication on monetary policy
actions will be helpful in keeping financial and
currency markets stable.
Multilateral Development Banks should
enlarge their capital base to support infra-
structure needs of the developing countries.
New institutions such as the New
Development Bank are welcome additional
sources of financing.
There is global consensus on the need to
address climate change. However, multilater-
al institutions should not impose such difficult
safeguards and conditions on loans that they
become barriers to development in many
countries and undermine sustainable devel-
opment.
G20 efforts must be aligned with the UN
Sustainable Development Goals, adopted
this year, particularly with the number one
goal of elimination of all poverty by 2030.
We welcome the G20 focus on employment
of women and, on youth this year.
Stable long term global economic growth
requires not just capital flows, but also efforts
to facilitate labour mobility and skill portability.
Excellencies,
India's economic growth is likely to grow at
7.5% this year and achieve a growth rate of
8% plus next year. We have reduced inflation
and current account and fiscal deficits.
Our programmes of inclusive development,
including Financial Inclusion, universal
access to basic needs by target year, Make in
India, Skill India, Digital India, Industrial
Corridors and Smart Cities will boost growth
and, employment in India.
This will be a source of strength for the glob-
al economy.

"Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may
hit a star" William Clement Stone, an
American businessman and an advocate
of Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) once
said, “Aim for the moon.
If you miss, you may hit a star”. It is
important for set high goals in life so that
even if you don’t reach those goals, you
will fall somewhere near those goals. For
those who aim for the moon, nothing is
impossible to achieve.
Only those who are determined and per-
sistent will be able to think big and try
their best to reach the peak of success.
People who aim for the moon do not put
any restriction on themselves. They don’t
feel constrained by their abilities. This is
what differentiates successful people
from ordinary people. People who are
focused and think big get resources
together to ensure that things are in their
favour.
Sir Edmund Percival Hillary was the first
man to reach the summit of Mount
Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
Hillary was successful because he
thought big, was
ambitious and determined. He was not
satisfied with climbing small mountains
and hills. Because his dream was huge,
he went on many expeditions to build his
stamina and prepare his body for adversi-
ties and challenges he may face while
scaling tall mountains. Since Hillary was
always focused on his goal – the Mount
Everest, he did not give up along the way.
Hypothetically, if Hillary had failed to
climb Mount Everest, he could have
gained fame and success for climbing the
second highest mountain. That’s the
beauty of thinking big – even if you can’t
reach your goal, you will not fall too deep.
Never underestimate your capabilities.
People who are afraid to aim high have
self-doubt, are complacent and scared of
failures. Only those who take risks in life
become successful in the future. One
should stretch his limits, step out of his
comfort zone, and work day and
night to transform his dreams into reality.
There is a famous saying, “When the
going gets tough, the tough get going”.
Success is not for the weak-hearted. It is
only for those with strong hearts, who are
determined to aim high and reap success
in life. "Plan the flight, fly the play , as
some do say. If you’re aiming at some-
thing, then you’ve got a
better chance of hitting it. Having sky-
high goals can also be a great motivator
and lead you to getting beyond where
you would otherwise have been. So get
into the cannon and shoot high!"
"Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star"

Just imagine a world where everyone laughs and smiles
at each other. How wonderful it is just to imagine! If it
becomes true, then no need to soak up any heaven. This
world will be a kind of heaven.
There is a very famous saying of Mother Teresa -"Peace
begins with a smile. Smile five times a day at someone
you really don’t want to smile at; do it for peace" So many
years ago, she demonstrated this quote or statement.
But it still echoes in everyone's mind. It has got univer-
sal attention in a few of years. Mother Teresa’s smiles
make the world go round, peace makes everything bet-
ter. When we look at the genuine smile of a child, we
cannot resist ourselves to take him or her in our arm or
in a lap. It effects like magic. True love is also not pos-
sible without a true smile. Everyone looks beautiful and
smart when he or she smiles. Even the ugliest person on
the planet looks nice when he smiles. Smiles help us to
forget all our sorrows.
One wonders how a smile can bring peace in our life or
around us. But believe me; this simple step can make a
miracle if we take it little seriously. If everybody gives
their bit by smiling, this simple step will turn into a big
leap (jump) of Hanuman. Peace begins with a smile, but
gets matured with kindness: We should bring qualities of
compassion and kindness to inculcate peace in us per-
manently. Our journey of peace begins with a smile, but
it matures when we assimilate traits of compassion and
kindness along with a smile. A peaceful person is always
a smiling person, but it may be possible that a smiling
person may not be a peaceful person. As smile brings
temporary peace in us. Smile just gives us a taste of
peace. But it is not at all peace in a complete sense. But
without beginning, there is no end. So let us all com-
mence our journey of peace with a smile, no matter what
is the object for the smile. Just smile because "Peace
begins with a smile”.
Peace begins with a Smile

Terror assaults in France are an “attack on
humanity” and UN has to define terrorism
before it is too late so that the world knows who
are backing terrorists and who are against it.
Paris attack is a manifestation of growing
hatred amongst various communities. The
attack is a very horrible and pathetic incidence,
however now we are used to it. Unfortunately,
common citizens were killed and their families
are deserted. If there are any issues or differ-
ences, they should be settled with the govern-
ment. Perception of West against ‘Terrorism’
changed after they became victims of it. Before
that, their perception on terror was ‘local law
and order’ problem. The terror across the globe
should be completely neutralized by creating a
new charter like United Nations
Comprehensive Convention for Anti-Terror
(UNCCAT).
The UN should initiate to curb terrorism across
the globe. The governments of all the countries
should extend their total support to UN to han-
dle this issue seriously. Let every citizen on the
earth fight against terrorism. Terrorist attack in
Paris has to be condemned by each and every
one in the world. Now, USA and other countries
must plan how to contain IS operations from
Syria and Iraq and how to wipe out IS terror
groups through both Air and ground strike.
Russia’s effort to wipe out the IS operatives
through Air strike in Syria must be supported. In
case, USA still persists in denouncing Russian
efforts, it is not far away that USA may be next
target shortly. It is the time that the educated
Muslim communities throughout the world must
condemn the attack in France and assist the
security forces to identify the probable targets to
crash the IS operatives from its roots. It seems
cold war between Russia and USA has been
fuelling the IS operatives.
Only then the victims of terror would rest in
peace! My condolences to the people affected
and died. If people blame the refugees then this
is what they have been running away from. If
you blame Muslim countries then realize that
Lebanon also was attacked yesterday and
Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan are attacked
more than anyone else and so called
“Muslims”/”Islamists” are doing this. Not sure
why these “Islamic” groups would only attack all
mosques and Muslims countries etc. If you
blame Islam, not sure how World War I and
World War II took place without dominance of
“Islamic” groups. If only Muslims are anti-social
elements then there wouldn’t have been some-
thing called “police” except in Muslim countries.
If Islam was indeed a religion of terror then it
would have been banned in every country by
law like how these “Islamist” groups are banned.
Islam children being orphaned, women wid-
owed and people disabled are all inhuman acts
which have to be condemned be it any religion,
caste, race etc…
The attack of ISIS on France is an attack on all
humanity. The only effective way to curb and
stop such increasingly frequent depredations all
over the world, all countries opposed to such
wanton violence must come together and
through the auspices of the UN have a world-
wide alliance to help each other in preventing
violence by fundamentalists and bring culprits to
justice. Islamic countries which are opposed to
such needless violence against innocent peo-
ple must join a world-wide alliance against such
violent fundamentalism to show the Islamic fun-
damentalists that they are pitted alone against
the peace loving people of the world.
May we unite for a terror free world?
It is India’s misfortune that
we don’t support our leaders
who speak for the nation.
We criticize our PM for his
silence, for his undelivered
promise within a country is
fair but humiliating him on
Social media platform asking
other nations to insult him is
really not fair. I’m also con-
sidering myself as a Modi’s
critic but I hate when some-
one embarrasses him when
he is representing India on
foreign land. In social media,
some people supported
Pakistanis and Khalistanis’
protesters to denounce
Modi’s visit to UK. After
being banned from entering
for 10 years, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi reached in
the United Kingdom with crit-
ics disapproving moves
against freedom of speech in
India since his government
took power, a year and half
ago. Trade and defence
deals worth billions of dollars
are expected to be signed
during Modi’s maiden visit.
Modi had been denied a visa
for more than a decade by
the UK government over his
alleged involvement in 2002
religious violence, in which
more than 1,000 people –
mostly Muslims – were
killed. Critics accuse Modi of
doing nothing to stop the
bloodshed when he was
Chief Minister of Gujarat
state. He has denied any
involvement or wrongdoing.
The word tolerance and
intolerance are too vague.
“No Indian is tolerant on reli-
gious comments that have
divisive effect whether from
leader of one community or
other. Constitution protects
freedom and thoughts of
every individual,” said Modi.
Yes he is right, we’re proud
to be Indians and we’re plu-
ralistic in nature. However,
his colleagues in BJP are
making communal state-
ments and his election cam-
paign was full of hatred rhet-
oric speeches. Modi told the
British journalists that the
Constitution protects the
freedom and thoughts of
every individual. Strangely,
he was silent when his party
men and those aggressive
pushers of Hindutva in India
were spitting furious state-
ments.
Dear Indian, please stop living in Denial

Delhi: The Union Minister of State for
Information and Broadcasting Shri
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that
Hyderabad may become a permanent venue
to conduct International children’s film festival.
Shri Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore observed
this at the inaugural function of 19th
International Children’s Film Festival of India
at Shilpa Kala Vedika in Hyderabad .
He said India has highly talented children and
they should use their talent and exhibit it to the
world at large. He called upon children to
make short films through cell phones and
upload the same on internet to showcase the
talent to the world. Stating that India is a land
of creativity and story telling, Shri Rathore
wished the festival a grand success.
Secretary, Ministry of I & B Shri Sunil Arora
said Children Film Society of India was started
soon after Independence to harness the medi-
um of cinema for the cause of children. He
said CFSI would provide wholesome enter-
tainment for children. Narrating the events in
the history of CFSI since its inception, Shri
Sunil Arora said the unique feature of 19th edi-
tion festival is that around 1200 entries came
for the festival. He said the festivals would
give opportunity to kids to become film mak-
ers. He further said that Little Directors section
which was started in the previous edition
become international, which is an achieve-
ment in itself. A total of 200-entries under this
section from 7-different countries.

New Delhi: Manipur will get
an exclusive Sports University
soon. The land transfer for-
malities are nearly complete
and shortly the foundation
stone will be laid for construc-
tion of the multi-crore univer-
sity campus.
This was disclosed here
today by the Union Minister of
State (Independent Charge)
for Development of North
Eastern Region (DoNER),
MoS PMO, Personnel, Public
Grievances, Pensions,
Atomic Energy and Space, Dr
Jitendra Singh while address-
ing a function organised to
celebrate the Manipur’s
“Ningol Chakkouba” festival,
traditionally observed by host-
ing a special feast for “mar-
ried daughters” by their
parental households. Dr.
Jitendra Singh observed that
the State of Manipur, with a
population of around 27 lakh,
has a literacy rate of over 79
per cent which is higher than
the average all-India literacy
rate. But, in spite of this, its
per capita income is lower
than the average per capita
income at all-India level. One
of the reasons for this, he
said, is inadequate utilization
of the State’s human and
non-human resources, as a
result of which, there is a
mass exodus of youth to
other parts of the country and
the vast woman potential also
remains under-utilized in
spite of the level of female
emancipation and literacy
being higher in comparison to
other States of the country.
Recalling that the Prime
Minister Shri Narendra Modi
had, during his very first visit
to the Northeast after the for-
mation of government,
announced the setting up of a
Sports University, Dr Jitendra
Singh said, the State of
Manipur is known to fetch
maximum number of medals
in different categories during
international athletic events
and therefore Prime
Minister’s visionary decision
to establish an exclusive
Sports University there, will
not only help in grooming the
sports talent of the State’s
youth but will also address
the issue of unemployment to
a great extent. During current
year, under Non-Lapsable
Central Pool Resources
(NLCPR), 84 projects costing
about Rs. 849.79 crore and
under North Eastern Council
(NEC), 79 projects estimated
at Rs. 671 crore are in
progress, he informed.
Dr Jitendra Singh lauded the
people of Manipur for the
courage with which they with-
stood some of the recent
unfortunate happenings
including devastating floods
and violent killings. He said,
the Centre is committed to
develop Manipur at par with
other States of the country.

UK: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi has arrived at London's
famous Wembley Stadium,
where he will addressed a
gathering of 60,000 members
of the Indian community at a
reception seen as the center-
piece of his three-day visit to
the UK.
Here are the latest develop-
ments of Modi Visit to UK:
Ashort while ago, PM Modi had
lunch with Britain's Queen
Elizabeth at the Buckingham
Palace.
At the Wembley, seats filled up
fast for PM Modi's reception.
The famous football field at the
stadium has been covered to
protect it, with a stage at one
end with a huge tricolour back-
drop.
UK Prime Minister David
Cameron will introduce PM
Modi, who will then make a
speech.
Rapper Jay Sean, singers
Alisha Chinai and Kanika
Kapoor are performing, as are
the London Philharmonic
Orchestra and many school
children. It is being billed as the
biggest reception by NRIs for
PM Modi yet.
As the PM lunched with the
Queen, Britain announced,
"The Duke and Duchess of
Cambridge will visit #India in
the spring of 2016, at the
request of HM's Government."
On day 2 of his trip, PM Modi
also met top industrialists at a
CEO's forum. "We are confi-
dently, consistently and cease-
lessly working to integrate our
economy with the world," PM
Modi said.
He has also held multiple meet-
ings with his host and British
counterpart David Cameron,
who hosted PM Modi last night
at his country retreat, a 16th
century mansion in
Buckinghamshire.
PM Modi landed in London
yesterday and held bilateral
talks with Mr Cameron. After
the talks, India and UK
announced deals worth 9 bil-
lion pounds. The two countries
have also signed a civil nuclear
pact. Confronting questions
from the British media on
"growing incidents of intoler-
ance" back home, PM Modi
said his government was com-
mitted to protecting every citi-
zen's freedom. "India is the
land of Buddha and in our soci-
ety, we don't accept unconstitu-
tional things. The law will deal
with these severely," the Prime
Minister said. The PM also
addressed British MPs taking a
strong stand on terror and reaf-
firming India's stance on cli-
mate change. "We need a
social movement against
extremism in countries where
they originate," he said. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi
addressed thousands of peo-
ple from the Indian community
who gathered at London's
famous Wembley Stadium.
Here are the top ten quotes
from his speech, delivered in
Hindi: People are astonished
by how we live in harmony
despite so many differences in
language, culture, food.
Diversity is our speciality, our
pride, our power.
Today the world is recognising
India as a power...We don't
want favours from the world.
We want equality. Kabir and
Rahim have been our inspira-
tions. Sufism is the best anti-
dote to terrorism. Not just
James Bond or Brooke Bond,
we now have to walk the path
of development so we have the
rupee bond. The colour of your
passport will not determine who
you are. India is as much yours
as it is Narendra Modi's.
India is not only that much what
is seen in newspapers. India is
much bigger. India with its 125
crore people is much bigger
and better with a pre-eminent
position beyond the screen of
Television.
After 18 months in office, I can
say that there is no reason for
India to remain poor, we har-
bour poverty for no reason. I
wonder why we have started
pampering poverty.
800 million people in India are
below 35 years. India is full of
youth and a country which has
so many youth cannot continue
to lag behind. Nobody can halt
its march to development.
18,000 villages in India need
electricity. In next 1,000 days
we will ensure they get it.
I was told London would be
cold, but not this much. Your
wonderful and warm welcome
makes me feel at home.
Around 60,000 members of the
Indian community gathered at
Wembley to hear PM Modi,
who was welcomed with a glit-
tering cultural show featuring
singers, dancers and school-
children.

Several Republican presidential
candidates have accused
President Barack Obama and
his former secretary of state,
Democratic Party front-runner
Hillary Rodham Clinton, of fail-
ing in the fight against Islamic
State militants as the terrorist
attacks in Paris became a focal
point of the nomination race.
Carly Fiorina, the former tech-
nology CEO, criticised the
Obama administration for the
“murder, the mayhem, the dan-
ger, the tragedy that we see
unfolding in Paris, in the Middle
East, around the world and too
often in our own homeland.”
“I am angry that Barack Obama
and Hillary Clinton declared vic-
tory in Iraq in 2011, abandoned
all of our hard-won gains for
political expediency and con-
trary to the advice of every gen-
eral that spoke with them, thus
leaving vast swaths of territory
and too much weaponry to be
gobbled up by ISIS,” Fiorina told
those at the Sunshine Summit, a
political gathering of Florida
Republicans.
Republicans criticise Obama, Clinton after Paris attacks
ManlinkedtoParisattacksregisteredasrefugeeinGreece
Greek police has said at least one man with a possible
connection to the Paris attacks had registered as a
refugee with Greek authorities earlier this year.
French authorities had asked their Greek counterparts to
check the fingerprints of one man who died in the
attacks, with a Syrian passport found next to him, in addi-
tion to the fingerprints of another man.
There were efforts to establish whether both had regis-
tered in Greece, the main entry point into Europe for
Syrian refugees.
The Greek minister for citizen protection, Nikos Toskas,
said one of the men had been registered on the Greek
island of Leros in October.
“We confirm that the (Syrian) passport holder came
through the Greek island of Leros on October 3 where he
was registered under EU rules,” he said a statement.
French police said the passport was found “near the
body of one of the attackers” during the investigation into
the main site of Friday’s carnage, at the Bataclan concert
hall where 89 people were killed.
The authenticity of the passport was being checked, but
its discovery indicates a possible Syrian connection in
Friday night’s violence, which also saw three suicide
blasts outside the Stade de France and gun attacks on
restaurants and cafes in Paris.
Greek police are not ruling out that the Syrian passport
changed hands before the attacks.

I didn’t want Sanah to be an actress: Supriya Pathak
Mumbai: Supriya Pathak says she was not
willing to let Sanah choose acting as her
profession.
“I didn’t want Sanah to be an actress. I was
very concerned. I think the only thing
wrong about our profession is the frustra-
tion you go through, when you don’t have
work, when you are going up or down. All
the time the stress is there. I am sure it is
there in other professions as well, but I
know better about my profession,” said
Supriya.
However, Supriya got convinced when
Sanah reasoned her saying stress comes
with each and every profession. “She was
just five when she told me about her desire
to become an actress. I was shocked. But,
she eventually put it very nicely and said
‘Mom even if I become a doctor I will be
going through the same thing. So, why not
do what I love doing.’ I realised that if she
wants to do it let her do it.” Surpiya feels
she and her actor husband Pankaj Kapur
have given their daughter the perfect
upbringing and are confident that she can
take care of herself. “Me and Pankaj have
given her the grounding. We know she can
be by herself. She is very hardworking girl,
because that has been inculcated into her
through her father. She is a very strong
person and her values are correct,” she
said.

Finding Dory is about sleep-swimming
Mumbai: Disney-Pixar’s
“Finding Dory”, the sequel
to animated sea adventure
“Finding Nemo”, is about
sleep-swimming. Forgetful
Dory, voiced by Ellen
DeGeneres, with her
friends Nemo and Marlin
(Albert Brooks) are on a
search for answers about
Dory’s past, reported
Deadline.
What can she remember,
who are her parents and
where did she learn to
speak Whale, are some of
the questions this movie
explores.
This is all evidently trig-
gered by a case of sleep-
swimming as seen in the
first trailer.
Pixar’s John Lasseter pre-
sented footage of the
movie in Cannes where he
said, “Where is Dory’s fam-
ily? That has been just
bugging us since we made
(Finding Nemo) and we
thought this could be a
great place to move for-
ward.”

DeepikaandPriyankamesmerizewiththeirdancemovesin‘Pinga’
Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s
upcoming magnum opus ‘Bajirao
Mastani’ has been the talk of the town
for quite sometime now. After mes-
merizing the viewers with the glow of
gold and Deepika in ‘Deewani
Mastani’, the film’s second song
‘Pinga’ is out.
After releasing the first look of the
song with both the leading actress,
Deepika and Priyanka posing together
in a dance posture, the entire song
came out today. Amongst the lively set
and traditional costumes, what strikes
most is the chemistry between the two
actresses and a subtle sad looks in a
happy song.
The track looks like an integral part of
the movie’s narrative, considering
both the ladies are in love with the
same man. The song has a very root-
ed touch to it with both the actresses
showcasing their dancing skills.

A conman who posed as RTO official
to motorist has been arrested by
Kamakshipalya police of west divi-
sion based on complaint filed by a
motorist who caught this person
when he stopped his vehicle and
posed as RTO official the motorist
found some fishy and questioned him
who are you as his suspicious behav-
iour made the motorist nab the cul-
prit. Many motorist claimed that they
noticed this Person daily near RMC
yard , Summanahalli junction, and
Nagarbhavi too and he used to target
the goods vehicles as tempo and
canters and he used to ask their doc-
uments driving licence if any driver or
motorist says they don't have he used
to tell them that you will be charged
hefty fine if I seize your vehicle under
violating permit conditions and by
this way he used to loot gullible peo-
ple by taking a bribe of Rs-500-
1000.rupees.
Alert motorists caught a 30-year-old
cab driver and passerby gathered
and thrashed him and handed over to
the police who was extorting money
from the vehicle owners posing as
officer of Regional Transport Office in
Kamakshipalya .
The accused has been identified as
Ravi Kumar, a resident of Laggere.
The police have recovered Id card of
fireman belonging to one Manjunath ,
and a motorcycle from the accused.
Ravi Kumar confessed to the police
that he was unemployed since for the
past one month but wanted to make a
quick buck by robbing people posing
as RTO officer.
Since the RTO officials are conduct-
ing a series of drives, Ravi Kumar hit
upon a idea and began to visit the
outer ring road in Kamakshipalya
started targetting private vehicles ,
posing as officer of the checking
Squad of RTO.
The accused would flg the moving
vehicles and check their papers
before threatening them to slap
cases of permit violations and dme-
and extort money from them.
The accused was operating from the
past fifteen days and had made lot of
money , a senior police officer said.
However luck ran out for Ravi Kumar
when a motorist identified as Anil
Kumar noticed his suspecious behav-
iour and with the help of other
motorists caught him red handed
before alerting the Kamakshpilaya
police .
The police have booked Ravi Kumar
under cheating and impersonation
and remanded him to judicial custody.

UK: In a breakthrough,
scientists have developed
the world's first
'porous' liquid that
can potentially
be used to cap-
ture harmful
carbon emis-
sions to pre-
vent them
from enter-
ing the
E a r t h ' s
atmosphere.
Researchers
at Queen's
University Belfast
in UK, along with
colleagues at the
University of Liverpool and
other, international part-
ners, invented the new liq-
uid and found that it can
dissolve unusually large
amount of gas, which are
absorbed
into the 'holes' in the liq-
uid.
The research could pave
the way for many more
efficient and greener
chemical processes,
including the procedure
known as carbon cap-
ture - trapping car-
bon dioxide from
major sources,
for example a
f o s s i l - f u e l
power plant,
and storing it to
prevent its
entry into the
atmosphere.
"Materials which
contain permanent
holes, or pores, are
technologically impor-
tant. They are used for
manufacturing a range of
products from plastic bot-
tles to petrol," said Stuart
James of Queen's School
of Chemistry and
Chemical Engineering.

NASA probe spots hints of
gamma-ray cycle in ‘active’ galaxy
Washington: Astronomers using data from
NASA’s Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope have
detected hints of periodic changes in the bright-
ness of a so-called “active” galaxy, whose emis-
sions are powered by a supersized black hole.
The long, shallow grooves
lining the surface of
Phobos are likely early
signs of the structural fail-
ure that will ultimately
destroy this moon of Mars.
Orbiting a mere 6,000 km
above the surface of Mars,
Phobos is closer to its
planet than any other
moon in the solar system.
Mars' gravity is drawing in
Phobos, the larger of its
two moons, by about 6.6
feet every hundred years.
Scientists expect the moon
to be pulled apart in 30 to
50 million years.
"We think that Phobos has
already started to fail, and
the first sign of this failure
is the production of these
grooves," said Terry
Hurford from NASA's
Goddard Space Flight
Center in Greenbelt,
Maryland in a statement.
