Swachh Bharat Rankings
of 476 cities in the country
with three more from the
State figuring in the top 10.
West Bengal does well
with 25 cities/towns from
the State finding a
place
in the
top 100
cities. These rankings are
based on the extent of
open defecation and solid
waste management prac-
tices in these cities. The
city of Mysore leads the
cities with minimal open
defecation and extensive
adoption of solid waste
management practices.
39 cities from the
Southern states are among
the top 100 followed by 27
from the East, 15 from the
West, 12 from the North
and 7 from the North-
Eastern States.

of 476, preceded by

Rewari(Haryana), Hindaun
(Rajasthan) and
Sambalpur in Odisha at
467th rank.
All the 476 Class-1 cities
in 31 States and Union
Territories, each with a
population of above one
lakh were surveyed for
assessing total sanitation
practices covering a set of
parameters including the
extent of open defecation,
solid waste management,
septage management,
waste water treatment,
drinking water quality, sur-
face water quality of water
bodies and mortality due to
water born diseases etc.
The survey conducted dur-
ing 2014-15 was commis-
sioned by the Ministry of
Urban Development as
required under the
National Sanitation Policy
of 2008.
Since the Swachh Bharat
Mission is being imple-
mented in urban areas with
focus on construction of
individual household, com-
munity and public toilets to
eradicate open defecation
and ensure door-to-door
collection and disposal of
municipal solid waste, all
the 476 Class-1 cities have
been ranked based on the
data pertaining to these
elements from out of the
date generated in the sur-
vey. This helps in assess-
ing the present situation in
these cities so that they
can undertake necessary
interventions to meet
Swachh Bharat Mission
targets in urban areas.
Over all sanitation rankings
of these cities based on a
total of 100 marks
assigned to different
parameters covering all
aspects would be
announced later. The
Swachh Bharat rankings
are based on a total of 42
marks including 20 for
open defecation indicators
and 22 for solid waste
management indicators.

The self-styled God woman Radhe Maa has
been booked under the Dowry Prohibition Act
for instigating husband and in-laws of a woman
to demand dowry from her. The 32-year-old vic-
tim alleged that Radhe Maa demanded Rs. 7
lakh cash, golden ornaments and other perks.
The victim also revealed shocking truth about
Radhe Maa. Meanwhile, pictures of Radhe
Maa in mini skirt have gone viral on the internet.
A criminal offence was registered against
seven people, including the woman’s husband,
at the orders of a magistrate court. Moreover,
Radhe Maa was found kissing, and hugging
several of her followers which created contro-
versy as public display of affection is consid-
ered obscene and largely unaccepted in India,
warranting imprisonment up to 3 months or a
fine, or both. Gupta’s complaint says that
Radhe Maa was involved in arranging her wed-
ding in 2012 and had placed a demand for a
huge dowry. When her parents could not meet
the demand, Gupta has alleged, her in-laws
began harassing her. At one point, as a punish-
ment, she was sent to serve at Radhe Maa’s
ashram in Borivali, where, she has alleged, she
was made to do menial tasks. She kicked and
punched if anybody opposed her.
Radhe Maa, known for her lavish lifestyle and
high-profile ‘devotees’, has stirred a fresh con-
troversy after several objectionable pictures of
this self-proclaimed spiritual leader surfaced in
the media. Radhe Maa, who is said to be a big
fan of porn star-turned-actress Sunny Leone,
recently posed as a model in a mini skirt and
asked devotees to pick her up. She is possibly
the most decked-up of all spiritual gurus in the
country and her hoardings are omnipresent in
Mumbai. Film personalities to business men all
are her devotees and she has the capacity to
hypnotize people, she is fond of men and men
are fond of her. She is very famous for blessing
her devotees with a dancing and giving them
warm hugs. Online videos of her satsangs
show her dancing while devotees, hugging
them, and presenting them with gifts. In a
strange ritual, she often gets physically carried
around by her followers.
Recently this controversy went viral when,
Rahul Mahajan, who is famous for his stints in
reality TV, son of late BJP leader Pramod
Mahajan and brother of BJP MP Poonam

tures of the Radhe Maa. This self-styled god-
woman has been banned from visiting Nashik

woman like her can be attributed the status of a
saint. Radhe Maa is a spiritual guru from
Dorangala Village in Gurudaspur, Punjab, who
currently resides in Mumbai.

ingly, living with porn and perversion around. Banning
these few websites is not the solution unless people

sion has not made people tech-savvy overnight. One
must also admit that these gadgets have helped people
in educating them more effective way than mere school

phone. Though we may not like it, the internet content

nels. So, in Indian context, it is better not to restrict inter-
net usage or bring so called moral control on people. We

Visits to England’s attrac-
tions increased by four per
cent in 2014, consolidating
the sector’s return to growth
following 2013’s positive fig-
ures, according to
VisitEngland’s Annual
Attractions Survey.
The figures continue the
growth of visitor numbers to
England’s tourist attractions
in 2013, demonstrating the
important contribution
attractions make to the
tourism industry and the
English economy, which is
worth £106 billion in total.
The benefits were felt
across the country; with
regions across England
seeing an increase in visitor

ISISThe dreaded Islamist group – the
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS –
has reportedly put to death 19 young
women for refusing to have sex with its
fighters, the Daily Mail reported. The web-
site quoted a Kurdish Democratic Party
spokesperson as saying that the girls
were executed for refusing to “participate
in the practice of sexual jihad”.
The 19 women had been abducted and
held hostage by the ISIS in its stronghold
of Mosul, Iraq, which the terrorist group
had seized in June 2014.
The news report mentions a UN official as
saying that young girls and women,
belonging either to the Yazidi or the
Christian community, are captured by the
ISIS wherever they raid. The ISIS views
the Yazidis and the Christians as heretics.
It is not known, however, if the 19 victims
belonged to either community.
A disturbing ISIS document, which the UN
official verified for the news agency,
directs its members to sell the Yazidi or
Christian girls and women they have cap-
tured, with one to nine-year-old girls fetch-
ing the highest sum.
The UN official said that the ISIS traded
women as “barrels of petrol”, each having
a price according to her physical attrib-
utes. Sometimes, the official added, one
woman is even sold off to six different
men. At the ISIS slave market, the
abductees are stripped naked and sold off
to the highest bidder. Also, the report says
that the ISIS fighters get to choose first,
followed by “wealthy Middle-Easterners”.
Sometimes, those girls who are fortunate
enough, are sold back to their families for
a huge ransom.

"The routine Saturday meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs
(MHA), where all the arms of Indian intelligence are present to
share intelligence inputs with one another, had thrown up this
input. It has since been circulated to all of us with the direction
to maintain top-notch vigil and remain at the highest level of
preparedness to avert any terror attack. So we have beefed up
security at all the establishments that are under our watch," the
CISF sources said.
Meanwhile, a high-ranking intelligence official refused to either
corroborate or deny the reports. But he told that with August 15
approaching, the security forces were taking all threat inputs at
face value and the intelligence establishment was taking no
chances in maintaining vigil and security in the run-up to the
Independence Day celebrations.
"Whenever we receive such inputs, we always put these
through our system of verification by way of which we decide
the preciseness of information and the immediacy of the
threat. We always cross-check how specific such inputs are.
However, on occasions of national importance like August 15
and January 26, we do not take any chances. So we take all
such inputs at face value and circulate these among all arms
of the security apparatus," the intelligence officer explained.
As per the input, nine suspected terrorists have already
entered Delhi and their cache of explosives, including RDX
and detonators, which is used in manufacturing improvised
explosive devices (IEDs), has already made its way into the
Capital. "The input was brought to our attention at the home
affairs ministry's meeting nearly two weeks back," CISF
sources said .

JNU to open disaster
management centre
New Delhi: The board of governors (BoG) of Punjab
Technical University revoked the dismissal of controversial
former dean NP Singh whose services were terminated in
July 2013 for favouring an advertising firm and approving a
non-existent university centre in Nepal.The issue of revoking
the dismissal was put before the BoG meeting by registrar
Amanpreet Singh in Chandigarh as per provisions of the
PTU Act. Though the BoG has revoked Singh's dismissal,
his suspension will continue till further orders. All allegations
against him will be probed afresh, a BoG member said.
Though no official communication about the meeting was
issued by PTU, it has been learnt that the BoG revoked the
dismissal on the grounds that the "vice-chancellor does not
have power to dismiss an official without consulting it"
(BoG), the apex decision-making body of the university.

West Bengal does well
with 25 cities/towns from

tices in these cities. The
city of Mysore leads the
cities with minimal open
defecation and extensive
adoption of solid waste
management practices.

Southern states are among
the top 100 followed by 27
from the East, 15 from the
West, 12 from the North
and 7 from the North-
Eastern States.

All the 476 Class-1 cities
in 31 States and Union
Territories, each with a
population of above one
lakh were surveyed for
assessing total sanitation
practices covering a set of
parameters including the
extent of open defecation,
solid waste management,
septage management,
waste water treatment,
drinking water quality, sur-
face water quality of water
bodies and mortality due to
water born diseases etc.
The survey conducted dur-
ing 2014-15 was commis-
sioned by the Ministry of
Urban Development as
required under the
National Sanitation Policy
of 2008.
Since the Swachh Bharat
Mission is being imple-
mented in urban areas with
focus on construction of
individual household, com-
munity and public toilets to
eradicate open defecation
and ensure door-to-door
collection and disposal of
municipal solid waste, all
the 476 Class-1 cities have
been ranked based on the
data pertaining to these
elements from out of the
date generated in the sur-
vey. This helps in assess-
ing the present situation in
these cities so that they
can undertake necessary
interventions to meet
Swachh Bharat Mission
targets in urban areas.
Over all sanitation rankings
of these cities based on a
total of 100 marks
assigned to different
parameters covering all
aspects would be
announced later. The
Swachh Bharat rankings
are based on a total of 42
marks including 20 for
open defecation indicators
and 22 for solid waste
management indicators.
