Answer: Managers in the early 1900s had very few external resources to draw upon to guide and
develop their management practice. But thanks to early theorists like Henri Fayol (1841-1925),
managers began to get the tools they needed to lead and manage more effectively. Fayol, and
others like him, are responsible for building the foundations of modern management theory.

Answer: Management planning is the process of assessing an organization's goals and creating a
realistic, detailed plan of action for meeting those goals. Much like writing a business plan, a
management plan takes into consideration short- and long-term corporate strategies. The basic
stepsin the management planning process involve creating a road map that outlines each task the
company must accomplish to meet its overall objectives.
EstablishGoals: The first step of the management planning process is to identify specific company
goals.Thisportionof the planningprocessshouldincludeadetailedoverviewof eachgoal,including
the reasonfor itsselectionandthe anticipated outcomes of goal-related projects. Where possible,
objectivesshouldbe describedinquantitative or qualitative terms. An example of a goal is to raise

Answer: There are various approaches to supporting individuals in crisis, for example, using non-
counseling methods such as psychological first aid, more technical models involving strategies for
listening, assessing and acting in crisis intervention, or activities related to responding to trauma.
The guidance inthissectiondescribesinterventionsthatrequire specificskills,development training
and supervision. Information alone is not sufficient for shelter staff to be able to apply these
