Chain Management (SCM). Explain the factors influencing Supply
Chain Effectiveness

the factors affecting freight cost.
a) Functionalities of Transportation

management:
 Planning and decision making – TMS will define the most efficient transport schemes
according to given parameters, which have a lower or higher importance according to the
userpolicy:transportcost,shorterlead-time, fewer stops possible to ensure quality, flows
regrouping coefficient, etc.
b) Factors affecting freight cost.
Answer: Whilst transporting commodities through oceanic routes, ocean freight plays the most
important role among other factors. The levy of ocean freight however depends on a number of
factors. This is why transporters hiring shipping vessels need to be careful when it comes to
understanding the rates applicable.
Understandingoceanfreightratesandthe waysand means of its applicability is important because
if a shipper undertakes to transport the
Question. 6. Elaborate the importance of Logistics Information
System (LIS). What are the Principles of designing LIS?
a) Importance of Logistics Information System (LIS
Answer: An information system uses informative key figures to aid the rapid detection of existing
problemareasandanalyze theirorigin.Businesstransactionsthatare oftenperformedthousands of
timesinone day formthe basisfor these keyfigures.Aninformationsystemtherefore has to access
aggregated data in order to gain a quick overview.
The informationsystemsinlogisticsare flexible tools for collecting, aggregating and analyzing data
from the operative applications (Purchasing, Sales, Production, Inventory Controlling, Plant
Maintenance, Quality Management/Inspection Processing). They thus enable you to continually
control target criteria and to react in time to
b) Principles of designing LIS.
Answer: THE ELEMENTS OF DESIGN AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
The Elements of Design are the things that artists and designers work with to create a design, or
composition. The Elements are: line, shape, space, value, color and texture.
Line … The Graphic Unifier, Curved, Straight. Directional Thrust: Horizontal, Vertical, and Diagonal.
Shape … Naturalistic, Geometric. (The Golden Mean)
Space / Size … Large, Medium, Small. Proportion or Scale. (The Golden Mean)(Perspective)
