Zika virus is a mosquito-borne disease first identified in Uganda that primarily spreads through Aedes mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti, with transmission also possible through sexual contact and maternal-fetal transfer. Most infections are asymptomatic or cause mild symptoms like fever and rash, with serious risks during pregnancy, including microcephaly and other congenital disorders. There is no specific treatment for Zika virus, and diagnosis requires laboratory testing in symptomatic individuals or those in endemic regions.
