INTRODUCTION.
• Low tier, ad hoc wireless standard.
• It operates in unlicensed bands.
• 868MHz European band provide 20Kbps speed.
• 915MHz North American band provide 40Kbps speed and,
• ISM 2.4GHz Global band provide 250Kbps data rate.
• Designed for low power and low-cost devices.

802.15.4
• IEEE 802.15.4 is focused on low data rate, low rate WPAN
• IEEE 802.15.4 investigates low data rate WPAN solutions with a battery life
ranging from months to several years
• Spectrum allocation is : 1 ch at 868Mhz, 10 chs in 915MHz band & 16 chs
in 2.4 GHz band
• Uses MSK or BPSK & range is 10-75 m.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF TECHNOLOGIES.
• Two different types of technology can be found:
1. Slotted channel structure.
2. Un-slotted channel structure.

• Becon  Enables the synchronization between
the devices.
• Based on the CSMA/CA
• CCA Clear Channel Assessment.

ZIGBEE DEVICE TYPES

ZIGBEE COORDINATOR NODE (ZCN).
• It is the root of network tree.
• Acts as a bridge to other network
• Able to store information about the network.
• Only one ZCN for a network.
• It can allow new devices to join the network.
• route data packets and communicate with other devices on the
network. 8
ZIGBEE ROUTER (ZR).
• Routers are responsible for routing traffic between
different nodes.
• Routers are also responsible for receiving and storing
messages.
• Routers are the gate keepers to the network.
• Responsible for allowing new nodes to join the network.

END DEVICE (ED)
• Contains just enough functionality to talk to the parent
node.
• A ZED requires the least amount of memory.
• Less expensive to manufacture than a ZR or ZC.

ZIGBEE TOPOLOGIES
• Star topologies.
• Peer-to-peer
topology/Mesh topology.
• Cluster tree topologies.

STAR TOPOLOGY.
• Communication is established through a single central
controller.
• Coordinator must be FFD.
• Application  Home automation, PC peripherals and
games.
• Chooses an unique identifier.

MESH TOPOLOGY.
• Contains one coordinator.
• Devices can communicate to each other as long as
they are in range of one another.
• Multipath routing.
• Becon frame is not used.

CLUSTER-TREE TOPOLOGY.
• Special case of peer-to-peer network.
• Most devices are FFDs.
• Any of the FFDs can acts as a router.
• Increased coverage area.

  • 3. INTRODUCTION. • Low tier, ad hoc wireless standard. • It operates in unlicensed bands. • 868MHz European band provide 20Kbps speed. • 915MHz North American band provide 40Kbps speed and, • ISM 2.4GHz Global band provide 250Kbps data rate. • Designed for low power and low-cost devices. 3
  • 4. 802.15.4 • IEEE 802.15.4 is focused on low data rate, low rate WPAN • IEEE 802.15.4 investigates low data rate WPAN solutions with a battery life ranging from months to several years • Spectrum allocation is : 1 ch at 868Mhz, 10 chs in 915MHz band & 16 chs in 2.4 GHz band • Uses MSK or BPSK & range is 10-75 m. 4

  • 9. ZIGBEE ROUTER (ZR). • Routers are responsible for routing traffic between different nodes. • Routers are also responsible for receiving and storing messages. • Routers are the gate keepers to the network. • Responsible for allowing new nodes to join the network. 9
  • 10. END DEVICE (ED) • Contains just enough functionality to talk to the parent node. • A ZED requires the least amount of memory. • Less expensive to manufacture than a ZR or ZC. 10
  • 11. ZIGBEE TOPOLOGIES • Star topologies. • Peer-to-peer topology/Mesh topology. • Cluster tree topologies. 11
  • 12. STAR TOPOLOGY. • Communication is established through a single central controller. • Coordinator must be FFD. • Application  Home automation, PC peripherals and games. • Chooses an unique identifier. 12
  • 13. MESH TOPOLOGY. • Contains one coordinator. • Devices can communicate to each other as long as they are in range of one another. • Multipath routing. • Becon frame is not used. 13
  • 14. CLUSTER-TREE TOPOLOGY. • Special case of peer-to-peer network. • Most devices are FFDs. • Any of the FFDs can acts as a router. • Increased coverage area. 14
