Is The American Dream Still Alive
The American Dream Is the american dream still alive to this day? Is it still possible for those
that come from foreign countries or those living a moderate american life to rise out of being
employed and become self employed? You may ask yourself is it truly worth the time, money,
and effort to go to college, get an education, and invest in a new business? Some people still
believe that being self employed and wealthy is still attainable, as long as you put in enough
thought, effort, and time. The american dream has changed immensely over the course of time the
U.S. has been around, but people all around the world still come to America in search for the
American Dream. Sure there are plenty of people that are living it big as millionaires

Essay on Tracking Metastasis and Tricking Cancer
Carcinoma is a cancer that begins to develop in epithelial cells. These cells include the lining or
tissue of an organ or in the skin (Australian Institute of Health Welfare Australasian Association of
Cancer, 2012). There are two types of carcinoma cells, basal cells and squamous cells (American
CancerSociety, 2012). Basal cell carcinomas are the cells that develop in the basal cell layer of
the epidermis (American Cancer Society, 2012). Squamous cell carcinomas are cells that are more
likely to develop in the fatty tissue beneath the skin (American Cancer Society, 2012). The
squamous cell carcinoma are more likely to spread to the lymph nodes and surrounding tissues in
the body (American Cancer Society, 2015.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tumour markers are detectable cancer cells that are found in the spinal fluid, urine or blood
(Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). They can include enzymes, hormones, antigens or genes (Craft,
Gordon Tiziani, 2011).Tumour markers are beneficial, in that they are able to identify high risk
cancers in individuals (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). They also help by diagnosing different
cancer types (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011).There are different markers that are able to identify
different cancer types (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). For example, Prostrate specific antigen
(PSA) identifies prostate cancer cells and a fetoprotein (AFP) identifies Hepatic cancer cells
(Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). There is a disadvantage of using tumour markers, and that is that
some non cancerous tissues produce markers (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). Therefore, to
determine whether a patient has cancer, additional tests are necessary (Craft, Gordon Tiziani,
2011). Sentinel nodes are lymph nodes that receive the bodies waste first (Craft, Gordon Tiziani,
2011). It is believed that the cancer cells are metastasised to these nodes before spreading to
other nodes of the body (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). To identify these nodes, dye or a
radioactive tracer is used to locate the node and determine an accurate stage of cancer (Craft,
Gordon Tiziani, 2011). Thrombocytopenia is a

Childhood In Homer H. Hickam s Rocket Boys
A person s childhood very often helps establish who they grow up to be. This idea has proved to
be true in the memoir Rocket Boys by Homer H. Hickam. Coalwood, West Virginia was not only
Sonny s hometown, but also an influential character. Coalwood was very uniform and all the
citizens took an interest in similar activities during the time period in which he grew up. For
example, Only coal mining was more important...than high school football. Sputnik, and anything
else, was going to always come in a distant third (Hickam 27). This mentality causes an issue for
Sonny, as he aspires to pursue an alternate career in rocket building. While most of the
townspeople are apprehensive of his plans initially, a majority begin to respect his choices

Effects Of The Past On The Present

Holodomor: The Effects of the Past on the Present The past profoundly affects the future. When a
people is oppressed in a manner intended to crush their spirit, one of two things can happen: either
they will be crushed, as intended, or their resolve will be solidified. Despite occupations in the past,
Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over
eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin
instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact
on Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President
Yanukovych, decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union
(Ukraine Crisis). This is vitally important because it revealed a split in the country which dates
back to the early 1930 s. This split, according to a BBC article named Ukraine Crisis, resulted in
the people of Western Ukraine inciting a protest numbering over 800,000. As explained by Chalupa,
the European Union, or E.U., membership means distance from Russia and increased economic
potential. Ties with Russia are opposed by the majority of the country because of the tumultuous
past the two have together. With this in mind, the geo political division that exists between the east
and west has to be examined. The eastern part of the country is currently made

Walmart is known for its innovative solutions in retail, logistics and distribution of goods which
reduces the cost of procurement of goods and thus can offer its customers the very low prices
which are eventually reflected in the global success of Walmart, and I think it is really a great
opportunity for innovation in walmart will take very good for success in the online market.
Walmart s knowledge of the market is its wide range of customers who buy at retail are very big
advantage compared to amazon.com and a very good foundation for success in the online market
to Walmart in the near future to take advantage and become the market leader of online sellers.
Factor that currently limits the growth and development of the Walmart stores is limited to the
place of delivery, ie they do not deliver their goods to customers outside the U.S. and I think there
are very large room for improvement at least to start in those countries where they are present and
their physical stores .

Shopping offers at both sites was quite the same, and the difference in the offer. Differences exist in

The Representation Of Interracial Relationships
In the multi cultural society that we live in today, relationships from all different cultures are
welcomed. The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the
unfortunate years of slavery. Where the mixing of white and black was a taboo, but still carried
out by the white slave masters on their black maids/ slaves.
In this essay I will be looking at the representation of interracial relationships and how these
relationships have been portrayed in cinema from 1903 up until present. I will be discussing the
how miscegenation has been represented to audiences over the years as a problem, and something
that is unnatural. This essay will be anasyling scenes from movies such as Birth of a Nation, and

It was this filmed that sparked the 1927 production code, which was called the Don t and Be
Carful s. This production code was a guideline for professionals in the industry, on what was not
to be depicted on the screens for audience to watch. The representation of miscegenation was
strictly prohibited from the years 1930 1956. This production code was a reflection of the views
that were held in society at the time. As cinema is often a reflection of society, miscegenation
when it is present in films is often if not always represented to the audience as problematic. The
relationships start off great but have a hard time progressing to anything further as, each side has to
deal with problems that they cannot relate to, or has issues addressing with their partners. These as
these were the views of society at the time, the view that these interracial relationship wouldn t
work and were unnatural were projected on our screens to further reinforce the message to the
audience.
Miscegenation was first shown on screens in 1903, in the film What happened in the tunnel? .
Unusually the interracial relationship is not represented in its typical form. There is no physical
relationship presented to the audience, miscegenation is presented to the audience when a white

Descriptive Essay On My Secret
Secrets have always drawn our curiosity. But scarier, darker secrets seem to draw the human in
more deeply. I woke up to the smells of crispy bacon sizzling on the stove top and the scents of
scrambled eggs and golden crisp potatoes on the way into transforming into hash browns. I woke up
slowly, stretching my arms above my head, breathing in all the delicious scents. I walked out into
the hallway through the twists and turns and arrived in the kitchen. My mother was finishing up
with the last scrambled egg and then turned to face me.

house where we would actually sit by the fire unlike our relation to the stove top or even the oven. I
swiftly walked over towards the fireplace and looked all over for the letter. I looked around until
my eyes landed on a slip of paper between the fireplaces wood. Strange, I thought as I leaned over

lose weight with the proper steroids. Some of the side effects of anabolic steroids range from
the little things like balding which is genetically predetermined all the way up to liver damage if

their further understanding of the remaining chapters .To do so Hawthorn developed the a complex
mood within the setting and characterizing Hester and displaying her complex mentality in trying

Thou art no Pearl of mine! Said the mother half playfully; for it was often the case that a sportive
impulse came over her, in the midst of her deepest suffering, Tell me, then, what thou art, and who

doubting feelings towards Pearl. Having this tone enables the reader to comprehend the troubles
Hester is going through. Those troubles being, raising an elvish child alone and in exile while
dealing with the multitudes of her sin. Using imagery and tone Hawthorne was successful in
developing (in particular) the characterization of Hester and showing how her intuitive mind
attempts to overcome sin.

imagery Hawthorne has established a complex mood within the setting and Hester s

Utilitarianism In Beowulf
The movie Beowulf can be viewed in many different lights satirical, sad, beautiful, and some
may even dare to say, complete garbage. Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a
comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint.
Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should
be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review
stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert.
I don t think the film did any justice to the epic poem, Beowulf, and should be seen as a comedy. In
Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked,
because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of
Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In
reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a
blanket of silver armour. If the film showed the battle as it actually occurred in the epic poem, I
would have found it much more enjoyable and I assume others, including Ebert, would have too....

For example, Marsha Sinkevich replied to Ebert s review saying, I found the film moving,
dynamic, and even with the blood and guts, very poetic and sad. The only truth in her statement
is that the movie is sad, viewers watch Hrothgar plumet to his suicidal death; an event which did
not occur in the original poem. However, since this scene does not follow the actual events of
Beowulf, I feel a false sense of sadness is created. All in all, the movie deviates so much from the
original poem that it becomes dreadful to watch, especially if the viewer appreciates the actual

manner because it repeats over and over again. It forms a circle, a loop that never ends. Change
occurs over a long period of time, after many cycles. This change can be destructive. White uses
time to illustrate the destruction of naturalness found in the circus, the South, and in nature. White
believes that the circus is at its best before it has been put together (47). The best performances
occur before the final show. The practices in the dark before the lights and glamour of the finished

Repercussions In Sports
This article focuses on the severity of contact sport related injuries, more specifically head injuries
and concussions. This has been a hot top throughout many different professional organizations and
it is often discussed how each organization should handle these types of injuries. More recently they
have began to administer tests before each season so that when a head related injuryoccurs, team
doctors can more easily determine whether or not the athlete should return to the field and when
the appropriate time to do so is. Since the repercussions of allowing an athlete to return to quickly
to play can leave long term consequences, professional, college, and even high school teams have
begun to take these injuriesmore seriously by administering these tests. These tests are given
before the season starts ensuring that there has been no injury to the athletes head. After the
season starts, if there is some type of injury related to the head the athlete is given the test at three
different times. These times are 24 hours after injury, 5 days after injury and 10 days after injury.

The Advantages Of Deep Brain Stimulation
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure introduced in 1987. This procedure uses
the implantation of a medical device called neurostimulator. A neurostimulator sends electrical
impulses, through implanted electrodes, to specific targets in the brain for the treatment of
movement and neuropsychiatric (branch of medicine that deals with mental disorders) disorders.
DBS in select brain regions has provided therapeutic benefits for disorders such as Parkinson s
disease, essential tremor, chronic pain, major depression and obsessive compulsive disorder

The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance
Introduction
Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before
competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally.
Some of these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think
they can attain an edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham
Athletics, I was given many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My
interactions with these athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed
before competitions, triggered my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic
performance. Does prayer before competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this
paper I will examine the effects of religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well
as how it affects an athlete s overall performance.
Literature Review
There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance.
Up until two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes
religious beliefs had no effect on their overall performance. We have all heard questions asking if
it s necessary for a player to thank God after hitting a homerun, or taking a knee before the game
and praying. These articles were mostly based on the opinion of the author, and not backed by
empirical data. More recent research on this topic, includes a

Vvc Free Paint Project
The problem itself is not one that can be fixed in a few nights, what has been done to the spheres
is almost irreversible with a few exceptions. The severity of this problem isn t one that can
completely alter the way we live but at the same time every action has an equal opposite
reaction. Due to the frequency of the emissions the spheres can be greatly impacted. Many
people have been affected by these emissions and most of the illnesses given to these people are
very damaging or terminal. On average every 3 7 years a building is repainted and depending on
the size of the building many VOCs are released. As well as the frequent times the inside of the
buildings are repainted and just creating artwork. Also VOC emissions are two to five times higher
indoors than outdoors which just increase the amount released in the end. All of this contributes to
the severity of this problem on the soul fact that paint emission happen so frequently.

Another downfall to buying the VOC free paint was there wasn t as many color options because
VOC free paint is not as popular as regular paint so this made my project more challenging in
finding the right colors and being able to mix them. Whereas if it was just regular acrylic paint I
would be able to buy just the regular colors without having to mix as much as the VOC free

expensive than regular acrylic paint. And acrylic paint by itself is already expensive, so I would
not recommend buying VOC acrylic paint to just use and instead use an air purifier that way you re

Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions
To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative financial impact
from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental policy. Perhaps the solution
may not be punishing companies for producing too much pollution, but rewarding companies for
producing much less. In this way, the market for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and
naturally profit seeking companies will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest
in infrastructure and equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward
proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability for companies
nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for identifying and eliminating economic
waste, meaning that many companies are currently increasing their profitability while
simultaneously following a strategy in pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously
profit focused companies like Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue
environmental action not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. The
reason for their actions is the simple recognition that environmental and economic interests are
often closely aligned. Nearly 50 separate studies from the Economist Intelligence Unit, Goldman

Analysis Of Charge Of The Light Brigade
Good morning and welcome back, to Poetry and Society, lesson 5. In today s lesson we will be
exploring the attitudes and morals portrayed in the poem Charge of the Light Brigade written by
Alfred Lord Tennyson; through the literary devices, themes and form, and how they are relevant to
the Crimean War.
Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a renowned British poet from the Victorian Era. Loving books as a
little kid, lead to him to writing a 6000 lined epic poem at the age of 12. Since that age he
continued to write poems and soon enough in 1850 became the most popular poet in the Victorian
Era. Two years later the Crimean war broke out between the Russians and the British. Tennyson,
intrigued by the war, decided to write about the famous Battle of Balaclava; where the British
Cavalry had in fact attacked the wrong unit whilst in battle. This lead to his most famous poem
Charge of the Light Brigade, which informed both people at the time and people now of the mistake
the British made.
The Crimean war, an attack of the British attempting to take over land in Ukraine on the Crimean
Peninsula. War at the time was used to unify a nation, as well as inform other countries of the
potential and status of one s country. Britain at the time was slowly expanding out to countries,
owning 33 countries at the time. Britain was considered quite patriotic under the ruling of Queen
Victoria, men that went out to fight in the war were doing it purely for their country, and nothing

Water Pollution Vs Stormwater Pollution
Abstract Stormwater pollution impacts the quality of both the environment and human health. It
degrades natural resources, threatens economic prosperity and poses health and safety risks to
communities. Stormwater pollution is the result of urban and industrial runoff getting washed into
the storm drains, seriously affecting all of our nation s water sources. Federal regulations and
pollution prevention measures can significantly influence the quality of our water, our environment
and our health. Introduction Stormwater pollution is a significant environmental and public health
issue. Stormwater pollution has substantial impacts on water quality, posing risks to the health and
safety of residential communities while degrading natural resources and threatening economical
revenues. Stormwater pollution is created when trash, waste and other contaminants are washed
into storm drains. When mixed with rainwater, this toxic mixture flows untreated into local creeks,
rivers and the ocean, polluting waterways and damaging natural resources. This paper will analyze
various historical and regulatory aspects of water quality, discuss some of the major sources of
stormwater pollution and look at the various ways stormwater pollution prevention techniques can
be implemented to improve the quality of our water. Point Source vs. Non point Source Pollution
First, it is important to distinguish between point source and non point source (NPS) pollution.

Child Labor During The Second Industrial Revolution
During the Second Industrial Revolution many people were getting jobs because of the growing
industrialization. By the mid 1800 s child labor started to be a major issue. Child labor became a
bigger issue once machines in factories replaced hand labor. Starting in Britain and spreading
throughout Europe and North American many new business and factories started to open. When
the factories started to open they needed more workers for cheap labor. During the Industrial
Revolutionchild labor increased because of the need for cheap labor, the new inventions and
technologies, and the lack of workers. During the Second American Revolution there was a
major increase in the use of child labor. One of the main reasons child labor increased was because
of cheap labor. On a typical day the children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset. They
worked eleven to twelve hours per day, six days a week. Throughout the day they would get less
than one hour for a break. On average they earned about a dollar every week. Some of the children

The boreal forest in Canada covers about a third the whole boreal forest in the polar region of

Russia and the Nordic and Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Finland and Sweden. In
Canada, the boreal region covers about 60% of the land area, from Labrador and Newfoundland

According to a report by BirdLife Internationa, about 11% of the bird species in the world are at
risk of global warming, and it is predicted that about 6% of the bird species may disappear in the
nest 20 or so years. If the planet continues to heat up, the optimal habitats for birds species may
not exist anymore. This is because most birds species depend on the boreal forest as their habitat,
breeding ground and source of food, and if the climate of the boreal forest keeps changing, it can
have adverse effect on the birds and other living organisms that depend on it as a habitat
(Randerson, 1132)
Global warming due to depletion and climate changes in the boreal forest can also affect the
birds that migrate over long distance. This is because the birds may not find food by arriving
late during migration. Birds that migrate over short distance arrive about 2 weeks earlier today
that how they arrived 50 100 years ago, and the long distance birds arrive early by 3 4 days for
the spring (Tarnocai, 229). The insects breeding in the northern areas are also hatching earlier than
expected during the spring. Birds always lay eggs sooner if the insects emerge sooner in order to
feed their young ones when there is an abundance of insects and caterpillars.
Climate change in the boreal region in Canada also affects the birds that migrate to the tropics

Similarities Between Finny And Hodge
The contrast between the social positions of Finney and Hodge has to be understood on several
levels. There are hints of social conditioning. Though Hodge opposed some of the church structures
that contributed to the situation, the Princeton Theology was more closely tied to the aristocracy
and higher social classes. While Finney was willing to cultivate these classes and was proud of his
success among them, his revivalism and his social commitments drew him more to identification
with the poor, the slave and the masses at least to some extent. Both Hodge and Finney, therefore,
represented to a certain extent in their thought the interests of those with whom they had aligned
themselves . (Dayton/Strong 176) (1)I choose this quote because

The Mortality Rate Of Sex Workers Essay
Regarding the mortality rate of sex workers, One study found that workplace murder risk is 51
times greater [for prostitutes] than for the next most dangerous profession which is operating a
liquor store (Dir. J. K. Wasson and J. Wells). Because prostitution is ultimately seen as a consensual
profession, some may interpret this information with indifference, believing that the sex workers
were willing participants. More often than not, however, sex workers are being coerced into the
industry by some form of force; leading them to be exploited for physical and economic gain. In
order to convince someone that the prostitutionindustry influences the victimization of women, I
would need to counteract the notions endowed onto us by society that lead people to believe that
prostitution is a fair system. Ethnomethodology, Symbolic interaction, and conflict theory have
contributed to the the false impression of sex workers endorsed by the mainstream.
Ethnomethodology is the study of everyday actions of people as an expression of their reality.
Every reality contains five features that describe how one s perspective is maintained and
occasionally transformed. In order to change the reality of people who believe that sex workers are
independently engaging in prostitution, I would need to address the five features of reality. The
first feature, reflexivity, states that reality is maintained by the process of absorbing interactions
and bending them to fit one s incorrigible

Physical activity can improve health and lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes,
depression, and some cancers, (CDC, 2014). Even though physical activity can reduce recurrent
stroke, stroke survivors are not engaging in physical activity at optimal levels to protect against
recurrent stroke. In their research, Boysen Krarup, pg. 148, (2013) found that following a
stroke, sequelae such as hemiparesis and ataxia may limit the trainability of stroke patients and
lead to decreasing levels of physical activity and physical performance. Historically, motivation
to exercise has also been cited in the literature as a deterrent and a facilitator to exercise among
the stroke survivor population (Damush, Plue, Bakas, Schmid Williams, 2007). According to a

Synonymous Parallelism
Tip number one was to watch for things that are repeated. If you run across something that is
repeated, it means that it was very important. You will find these types of things all throughout
the bible, but the challenge is to see what other do not see. We learned in class that a good bible
study is the art of seeing the obvious. Repeated phrases or words are an indication that we should
stop and take a second look, maybe even pull that section apart and research it more in depth.
Another tip we learned was that we should be looking for people or specific names. When the bible
talks about Abraham I the New Testament, we would want to study the history of Abraham and
his linage and the historical beginning of Israel. This tip is challenging you to research the bible
and you will find how from beginning to end it is all tied together, there is a plan, a direction, a
hope all throughout the pages.

Examples Of Women In The Odyssey
Question 4: When applying the Gender/Feminist critical lens to The Odyssey what emerges? What
are the roles of women and the roles of men in this text? What overall statement about gender is
made in this text?
Answer: When applying the Gender/ Feminist critical lens to The Odyssey, multiple things
emerge such as seeing how women and men are portrayed. Throughout the book, women are
portrayed as seductresses, such as Circe and Kalypso or they are portrayed as helpless or a victim
such as Penelope. One example of women being portrayed as a seductress is when Circe told
Odysseus that they shall mingle and make love. (10.376 377) Throughout the book, Penelope is
seen as helpless because all she does is cater to the suitors every need, but even then she is a
villain to the suitors since she refuses to remarrying: You should know the suitors are not to
blame It is your own dear, incomparable cunning mother. (2.95 96) Meanwhile, men, such as
Odysseus, are not described on how they are dressed such as the women, but instead on how they
look. Odysseus is described as rough and dangerous: Caked with blood like a mountain lion
(22.449) These are just a few ways on how women were treated differently from men.

the Qur anic text views women and is the genesis of more scholarly works and discussions on the

She proves this through the discussion about the Arabic terms nafs and zawj. Nafs can be
translated to mean self, and though it holds a feminine gendering conceptually it can be seen as
neutral (19). Zawj is typically translated as spouse and though it holds a male gendering is also seen
as neutral (20). The Qur an states that a nafs was created and from that nafs its pair or zawj was
also created (22). Wadud emphasizes that the zawj highlights the pairing nature of the creation
story. Though the creation story does not have much material about the zawj, the duality of the
nafs and zawj as a pair is repeatedly emphasized in many verses (21). The Qur an does establish that
there is an intentional male/female pair yet it only difference it emphasizes is the biological
function of the mother (21 22). Therefore nafs and zawj cannot be translated to specifically mean a
male nafs and a female zawj (20). With this point Wadud argues that the creation story is gender
neutral and does not emphasize male

Urbanization Study in India
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
Urbanization is the defining phenomenon of the 21st century. For the first time in history, more
than half the world s population lives in cities, with 90 percent of urban growth taking place in the
developing world. Increasing population growth in the existing urban areas and rapid urbanisation
is leading to need for increased land area to accommodate the growing population. Rapid
urbanization is turning villages are into towns, towns into big cities and cities in to metropolitan
cities. This is leading to various emerging challenges that urban areas today have to address like
inadequate housing, inefficient physical infrastructure like water, sanitation, transport, inadequate
social infrastructure like education and health, spiralling construction costs and land prices.
Therefore the critical planning is required for all the necessary inputs including the infrastructure,
social amenities and land. It is projected that over the next 20 years, India is going to witness
nearly 2 billion additional urban population in the existing urban areas, while one billion already
live in slums. However, only by efficient planning and management can rapidly growing cities be
able to harness this potential, accommodate new urban dwellers, and adequately deliver basic
services and infrastructure (World Bank Institute).
The challenge is to address and effectively manage the pressure on cities and towns and to manage
new growth. There is also a need for

Comparison of Mid-Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My...
Comparison of Mid Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My First Sonne
The above poems are written by 3 different people and on reading them they seem to be about very
different things. But at heart, they are about death and the pain that appears afterwards. Seamus
Heaney s
Mid Term Break is a memory of his four year old brother s death.
Gillian Clarke s The Field Mouse is about death in a political conflict compared to a death in
nature. Finally On My First Sonne by
Ben Johnson is about the death of his son and the religious view of the situation.
Both Heaney and Johnson s poems are about the death of a close loved one and how it is dealt
with emotionally and in reality. On looking at the title of Heaney s poem, you almost ... Show more

It also shows that his son was possibly the only bright point in his life and that he feels since he
has been taken away, he has almost no reason to live. After this event he also feels that you
shouldn t get to attached to something as he says As what he loves may never like too much. This
obviously means that whatever you love, don t get attached to it, as you will end up losing it.
Clarke, on the other hand, has a more general observation to death and tells it from the sort of
view most people might have on war or conflict. Like Heaney s Mid Term Break, when you see the
title of
Clark s poem you assume that it will be a happy poem about a cute and cuddly mouse. This theory
is almost exactly the opposite of what the poem is actually about. You can see that the poem is
about the death and destruction in Bosnia War and compares it to the death and destruction that
occurs while harvesting.
This poem again is a memory like Mid Term Break, and at the end it shows her feelingand attitude
towards war and violence. You can tell that her feelings are negative since she writes the line my
neighbour turned stranger . This I think means that people you once were good friends with would
now become your enemy. So unlike the other 2 poems where it tells that death is a natural
occurrence, this poem tells that a person s main enemy is another person that could possibly be
your best friend.
In Johnson s poem you can tell he is a very religious

What Is The Difference Between The Lewis And Clark Expedition
The Lewis and Clark expedition was led by William Clark and Meriwether lewis (Thus the name
of the expedition).Under Thomas Jefferson the expedition kicked off. It began on May 14, 1804
and came to a conclusion on September 26, 1806. The objective of the expedition was to reach the
northwest and other regions beyond. Lewis kept a journal describing all his findings and
surveillances. The expedition became very difficult and resources became scarce as the expedition
carried on. Without knowledge of their surroundings they often found themselves lost without a
clue of their whereabouts. On their long grueling journey they met two shoshone indians, Toussaint
Charbonneau and his wife Sacagawea. From there on they expedition began to run much more

Smoking Persuasive Essay
Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only
damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the
toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in
the United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of
smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be
banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which
leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and
inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart
attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account
of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize
smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the
whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye
perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a
path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been
since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is

Security In College Sports Essay
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (or NCAA) is a discourse community that most
people know about. The NCAA controls all of the college sports in the United States, with the
common goal for each team to be as successful as possible and to get as much of a profit as
possible. The NCAA features the rules that each team has to follow as well as the rules that each
individual athlete has to follow.
The NCAA uses schedules and newsletters to inform the public about things going on around the
association, and memos to keep coaches, players, and officials up to date. There are many different
genres that the NCAA use and not everyone realizes just how many there are.
These rules are set in place so that each student acts in an appropriate manner and so that they are
being as safe as they can be. Security is also a genre in the NCAA; the NCAA requires a high
amount of strict security as to keep athletes safe. The NCAA has a strict set of rules that each and
every player/coach/ and official has to follow. One example of the context is the amount of time an
athlete that is being recruited can visit each school (and for how long), what the coaches can discuss
with the player while on the visit and what can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways the NCAA front office does this is though newsletters. Newsletters are used as injury
reports, update on how each team is doing, and other things such as upcoming events for each
team. The newsletters are put in newspapers, online blogs, and short articles. Sports journals are
for some people the most interesting literature that is written daily and it is constantly changing.
Sports journals are a type of newsletters that are written to inform and to elaborate on events going
on in the NCAA. And sometimes journals are even a place for reporters and analyzers to rant on
why they think each team is doing things wrong and what they really should be doing to make their
teams

Preparing For The Amle 2015 National Conference My Intent
AMLE 2015
In preparing for the AMLE 2015 National Conference my intent was to get inspiration, and to find
something I could use in class and also share with co teachers
I m in a unique position in that I teach at an online school, ECOT, and much of what is presented
at conferences applies well to a brick and mortar school, but needs adaptation to work for my
classroom and my students. I knew finding information to meet my classroom requirements might
not be easy. I also knew there were a few sessions I was particularly interested in, for instance
Cultivating Resilience and Perseverance in Students with Rick Wormeli.
The energy during the General Session while Marcia Tate spoke inspired me to go to her session
Worksheets Don t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain. This session
was amazing. She taught the session the same way she was teaching us to teach in our classrooms.
Not only did I realize I use many of the techniques she employed, but I was forced to think about
how I can use strategies such as movement, and Cooperative Learning and Reciprocal Teaching in
my online setting. This first session with Marcia Tate had me looking forward to the afternoon as I
walked out of her session to meet with a coworker for lunch.
After lunch I attended the 3 hour workshop Talk, Move, and Mess Active Strategies That Engage
More Students with David Shepard. I honestly was concerned about being in one session for three
hours; however, when the session

Disaster Relief and Preparedness
When disaster strikes, The Home Depot is among the first organizations on the scene to ensure its
customers have the supplies, resources and support they need to rebuild their homes and
communities.
Last year s destruction in the Gulf reinforced the importance of disaster preparedness. The Home
Depot s dedication to providing customers with the tools they need to minimize the loss of personal
items during such devastating events remains a staple in the company s long standing tradition of
safety and preparedness.
The Home Depot takes an integrated approach to its disaster relief efforts through ongoing support
of local and national non profit partners and the mobilization of the Team Depot associate
volunteers. In 2005, The Home Depot partnered with organizations such as The Home Depot
Foundation, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Hands On Network, United Way and other
community leaders to donate more than $11 million to the long term recovery and rebuilding of the
Gulf region.
Through its associate led and managed volunteer force, Team Depot, the company invested $1.7
million in volunteer activation and management in the Gulf. As an example, in Pass Christian,
Miss., The Home Depot engaged more than 500 volunteers to build the community s first

Pros And Cons Of The Snail Darter
Did you know that many big rivers and lakes have dams to control the water flow? I grew up in a
place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what
dams do to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico
Dam was a planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they
discovered a endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the
dam, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail
Darter. The Snail Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A
little bit larger than the average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily
feeds on aquatic snails. The females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the
darters, in captivity, only live up to about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the
dam would likely wipe out the Snail Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct
species. I believe that we should keep the Endangered Species Act strong to protect animal and
plant species such as the Darter. My reasons for this are that the act protects our native species,

The Endangered Species Act was created to help save the endangered and threatened species and
help their ecosystems. Basically, its purpose is to slow down the extinction rate. Created on
December 28, 1973 by Congress, this act protects about 2270 species of animals and plants and
helps many ecosystems. This act was signed by the president of the time, Richard Nixon. A species
being endangered means that the species is likely to go extinct without help. A species being
threatened means that the species could soon become and endangered species without help. The
Endangered Species Act is important because it protects the animals we have

Ultimate Music Format
Sometimes it seems that no one buys music anymore. A digital download has replaced going to
the music store and picking up a CD for most people. As a result CD sales have been slowly
dropping over the years. It isn t the case that no one wants physical media though. Vinyl record
sales have nearly doubled in the last few years. As Alice Cooper
The Record Is the Ultimate Music Format
There is something about a record. The vinyl and cardboard are fantastic to hold and smell. Slide
the record out of its sleeve. Place it on the turntable and lower the needle. Hear that first hiss. Now
there is music. Wonderful. Alice Cooper was right. The kids are tired of just buying air.
A record sleeve is large, the artwork can be properly enjoyed without needing a magnifying glass.
The record has an organic occasional crackle and warmth to the sound. This is something that

They take it home, put it into the computer and rip those tracks. The CD is left to gather dust on
a shelf. Listening to a CD or listening to a ripped MP3 track is musically similar. The track is
perfect, as only a digital copy can be. There is no warmth or personality to the tracks. Why make
that extra effort to find the CD, clean it, and play it?
A record requires you to select the record. You are actively thinking about your music. It s a far
more introspective experience. You are also more likely to enjoy the entire side of the record at a
time. CDs urge you to skip around. By listening to the entire side you experience the music on a
deeper level than just a radio favorite.
Buying and Selling and Saving
Once you have a record, it s yours. You can sell it to anyone you like, for any price they are willing
to pay. You can buy more records for your collection just as easily, from anyone willing to sell. CDs
don t keep any value, they don t save very well. A digital download is never truly your property to
do with as you

The Interlopers Epilogue Analysis
The Interlopers: Epilogue Who are they? Asked Georg quickly, straining his eyes to see what the
other gladly would not have seen. Wolves. The two men lay in the snow, listening to the branches
creak in the forest. Silence. A crow cawed in the distance, interrupting the calm only for a second.
As the two men s fate approached, they began to perceive things that they had never experienced
before. All the crackling, shuffling, and whistling became crystal clear to them, and they wondered
how they had never heard these sounds before. Little shimmers and sparkles caught their eyes as if
to tell them to enjoy their last moments in this world. Frost glittered in the slivery moonlight,

  • 3. Essay on Tracking Metastasis and Tricking Cancer Carcinoma is a cancer that begins to develop in epithelial cells. These cells include the lining or tissue of an organ or in the skin (Australian Institute of Health Welfare Australasian Association of Cancer, 2012). There are two types of carcinoma cells, basal cells and squamous cells (American CancerSociety, 2012). Basal cell carcinomas are the cells that develop in the basal cell layer of the epidermis (American Cancer Society, 2012). Squamous cell carcinomas are cells that are more likely to develop in the fatty tissue beneath the skin (American Cancer Society, 2012). The squamous cell carcinoma are more likely to spread to the lymph nodes and surrounding tissues in the body (American Cancer Society, 2015.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tumour markers are detectable cancer cells that are found in the spinal fluid, urine or blood (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). They can include enzymes, hormones, antigens or genes (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011).Tumour markers are beneficial, in that they are able to identify high risk cancers in individuals (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). They also help by diagnosing different cancer types (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011).There are different markers that are able to identify different cancer types (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). For example, Prostrate specific antigen (PSA) identifies prostate cancer cells and a fetoprotein (AFP) identifies Hepatic cancer cells (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). There is a disadvantage of using tumour markers, and that is that some non cancerous tissues produce markers (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). Therefore, to determine whether a patient has cancer, additional tests are necessary (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). Sentinel nodes are lymph nodes that receive the bodies waste first (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). It is believed that the cancer cells are metastasised to these nodes before spreading to other nodes of the body (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). To identify these nodes, dye or a radioactive tracer is used to locate the node and determine an accurate stage of cancer (Craft, Gordon Tiziani, 2011). Thrombocytopenia is a ... • 4. Childhood In Homer H. Hickam s Rocket Boys A person s childhood very often helps establish who they grow up to be. This idea has proved to be true in the memoir Rocket Boys by Homer H. Hickam. Coalwood, West Virginia was not only Sonny s hometown, but also an influential character. Coalwood was very uniform and all the citizens took an interest in similar activities during the time period in which he grew up. For example, Only coal mining was more important...than high school football. Sputnik, and anything else, was going to always come in a distant third (Hickam 27). This mentality causes an issue for Sonny, as he aspires to pursue an alternate career in rocket building. • 5. Effects Of The Past On The Present Jacob Hill British Literature Mrs. Fudge 9 April 2015 Holodomor: The Effects of the Past on the Present The past profoundly affects the future. When a people is oppressed in a manner intended to crush their spirit, one of two things can happen: either they will be crushed, as intended, or their resolve will be solidified. Despite occupations in the past, Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact on Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President Yanukovych, decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union (Ukraine Crisis). This is vitally important because it revealed a split in the country which dates back to the early 1930 s. This split, according to a BBC article named Ukraine Crisis, resulted in the people of Western Ukraine inciting a protest numbering over 800,000. As explained by Chalupa, the European Union, or E.U., membership means distance from Russia and increased economic potential. Ties with Russia are opposed by the majority of the country because of the tumultuous past the two have together. With this in mind, the geo political division that exists between the east and west has to be examined. The eastern part of the country is currently made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint. Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert. In Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked, because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a blanket of silver armour. This has been a hot top throughout many different professional organizations and it is often discussed how each organization should handle these types of injuries. More recently they have began to administer tests before each season so that when a head related injuryoccurs, team doctors can more easily determine whether or not the athlete should return to the field and when the appropriate time to do so is. Since the repercussions of allowing an athlete to return to quickly to play can leave long term consequences, professional, college, and even high school teams have begun to take these injuriesmore seriously by administering these tests. These tests are given before the season starts ensuring that there has been no injury to the athletes head. After the season starts, if there is some type of injury related to the head the athlete is given the test at three different times. These times are 24 hours after injury, 5 days after injury and 10 days after injury. However, I ve discovered that the older I get, the more I analyze things, whether it be school work or general life questions. • 22. The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance Introduction Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally. Some of these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think they can attain an edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham Athletics, I was given many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My interactions with these athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed before competitions, triggered my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic performance. Does prayer before competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this paper I will examine the effects of religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well as how it affects an athlete s overall performance. Literature Review There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance. Up until two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes religious beliefs had no effect on their overall performance. Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative financial impact from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental policy. Perhaps the solution may not be punishing companies for producing too much pollution, but rewarding companies for producing much less. In this way, the market for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and naturally profit seeking companies will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest in infrastructure and equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability for companies nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for identifying and eliminating economic waste, meaning that many companies are currently increasing their profitability while simultaneously following a strategy in pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously profit focused companies like Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue environmental action not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. It degrades natural resources, threatens economic prosperity and poses health and safety risks to communities. Stormwater pollution is the result of urban and industrial runoff getting washed into the storm drains, seriously affecting all of our nation s water sources. Federal regulations and pollution prevention measures can significantly influence the quality of our water, our environment and our health. Introduction Stormwater pollution is a significant environmental and public health issue. Stormwater pollution has substantial impacts on water quality, posing risks to the health and safety of residential communities while degrading natural resources and threatening economical revenues. Stormwater pollution is created when trash, waste and other contaminants are washed into storm drains. When mixed with rainwater, this toxic mixture flows untreated into local creeks, rivers and the ocean, polluting waterways and damaging natural resources. This paper will analyze various historical and regulatory aspects of water quality, discuss some of the major sources of stormwater pollution and look at the various ways stormwater pollution prevention techniques can be implemented to improve the quality of our water. Nafs can be translated to mean self, and though it holds a feminine gendering conceptually it can be seen as neutral (19). Zawj is typically translated as spouse and though it holds a male gendering is also seen as neutral (20). The Qur an states that a nafs was created and from that nafs its pair or zawj was also created (22). Wadud emphasizes that the zawj highlights the pairing nature of the creation story. Though the creation story does not have much material about the zawj, the duality of the nafs and zawj as a pair is repeatedly emphasized in many verses (21). The Qur an does establish that there is an intentional male/female pair yet it only difference it emphasizes is the biological function of the mother (21 22). Therefore nafs and zawj cannot be translated to specifically mean a male nafs and a female zawj (20). With this point Wadud argues that the creation story is gender neutral and does not emphasize male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Urbanization Study in India CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND Urbanization is the defining phenomenon of the 21st century. For the first time in history, more than half the world s population lives in cities, with 90 percent of urban growth taking place in the developing world. Increasing population growth in the existing urban areas and rapid urbanisation is leading to need for increased land area to accommodate the growing population. Rapid urbanization is turning villages are into towns, towns into big cities and cities in to metropolitan cities. This is leading to various emerging challenges that urban areas today have to address like inadequate housing, inefficient physical infrastructure like water, sanitation, transport, inadequate social infrastructure like education and health, spiralling construction costs and land prices. Therefore the critical planning is required for all the necessary inputs including the infrastructure, social amenities and land. It is projected that over the next 20 years, India is going to witness nearly 2 billion additional urban population in the existing urban areas, while one billion already live in slums. However, only by efficient planning and management can rapidly growing cities be able to harness this potential, accommodate new urban dwellers, and adequately deliver basic services and infrastructure (World Bank Institute). The challenge is to address and effectively manage the pressure on cities and towns and to manage new growth. There is also a need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Comparison of Mid-Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My... Comparison of Mid Term Break, The Field Mouse, and On My First Sonne The above poems are written by 3 different people and on reading them they seem to be about very different things. But at heart, they are about death and the pain that appears afterwards. Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break is a memory of his four year old brother s death. Gillian Clarke s The Field Mouse is about death in a political conflict compared to a death in nature. Finally On My First Sonne by Ben Johnson is about the death of his son and the religious view of the situation. Both Heaney and Johnson s poems are about the death of a close loved one and how it is dealt with emotionally and in reality. On looking at the title of Heaney s poem, you almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also shows that his son was possibly the only bright point in his life and that he feels since he has been taken away, he has almost no reason to live. After this event he also feels that you shouldn t get to attached to something as he says As what he loves may never like too much. This obviously means that whatever you love, don t get attached to it, as you will end up losing it. Clarke, on the other hand, has a more general observation to death and tells it from the sort of view most people might have on war or conflict. Like Heaney s Mid Term Break, when you see the title of Clark s poem you assume that it will be a happy poem about a cute and cuddly mouse. This theory is almost exactly the opposite of what the poem is actually about. You can see that the poem is about the death and destruction in Bosnia War and compares it to the death and destruction that occurs while harvesting. This poem again is a memory like Mid Term Break, and at the end it shows her feelingand attitude towards war and violence. You can tell that her feelings are negative since she writes the line my neighbour turned stranger . This I think means that people you once were good friends with would now become your enemy. So unlike the other 2 poems where it tells that death is a natural occurrence, this poem tells that a person s main enemy is another person that could possibly be your best friend. In Johnson s poem you can tell he is a very religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It began on May 14, 1804 and came to a conclusion on September 26, 1806. The objective of the expedition was to reach the northwest and other regions beyond. • 44. Smoking Persuasive Essay Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems. Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Security In College Sports Essay The National Collegiate Athletic Association (or NCAA) is a discourse community that most people know about. The NCAA controls all of the college sports in the United States, with the common goal for each team to be as successful as possible and to get as much of a profit as possible. The NCAA features the rules that each team has to follow as well as the rules that each individual athlete has to follow. The NCAA uses schedules and newsletters to inform the public about things going on around the association, and memos to keep coaches, players, and officials up to date. There are many different genres that the NCAA use and not everyone realizes just how many there are. These rules are set in place so that each student acts in an appropriate manner and so that they are being as safe as they can be. Security is also a genre in the NCAA; the NCAA requires a high amount of strict security as to keep athletes safe. The NCAA has a strict set of rules that each and every player/coach/ and official has to follow. One example of the context is the amount of time an athlete that is being recruited can visit each school (and for how long), what the coaches can discuss with the player while on the visit and what can ... Preparing For The Amle 2015 National Conference My Intent AMLE 2015 In preparing for the AMLE 2015 National Conference my intent was to get inspiration, and to find something I could use in class and also share with co teachers I m in a unique position in that I teach at an online school, ECOT, and much of what is presented at conferences applies well to a brick and mortar school, but needs adaptation to work for my classroom and my students. I knew finding information to meet my classroom requirements might not be easy. I also knew there were a few sessions I was particularly interested in, for instance Cultivating Resilience and Perseverance in Students with Rick Wormeli. The energy during the General Session while Marcia Tate spoke inspired me to go to her session Worksheets Don t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain. This session was amazing. She taught the session the same way she was teaching us to teach in our classrooms. Not only did I realize I use many of the techniques she employed, but I was forced to think about how I can use strategies such as movement, and Cooperative Learning and Reciprocal Teaching in my online setting. This first session with Marcia Tate had me looking forward to the afternoon as I walked out of her session to meet with a coworker for lunch. After lunch I attended the 3 hour workshop Talk, Move, and Mess Active Strategies That Engage More Students with David Shepard. • 48. Pros And Cons Of The Snail Darter Did you know that many big rivers and lakes have dams to control the water flow? I grew up in a place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what dams do to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico Dam was a planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they discovered a endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the dam, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail Darter. The Snail Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A little bit larger than the average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily feeds on aquatic snails. The females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the darters, in captivity, only live up to about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the dam would likely wipe out the Snail Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct species. I believe that we should keep the Endangered Species Act strong to protect animal and plant species such as the Darter. My reasons for this are that the act protects our native species, animal/plant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
