Iran-Contra Scandal
So I guess in a way they are counter revolutionary, and God bless them for being that way and I
guess that makes them contras, and so it makes me a contra too. In 1979, a bitter war broke out in
Nicaragua between the Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction, the Nicaraguan government,
and the Contras, a vicious rebel group. The goal of this war was simple, overthrow the Nicaraguan
government and restore freedom for all Nicaraguan citizens. It was this that caught the eye of the
American government and it was not too long before the U.S began to fund the Contras. Although
the United States government funded the contras, they viewed them with skepticism being that
they were extremely controversial.
The U.S president during this time, Ronald Reagan, fell in love with the contras belief system and
fought to keep them funded. Later on the United States support became limited, which left the
president in search of a new way to keep the Contras money flow regular. Soon after, former
president Ronald Reagan and his administrators contrived a way to continue to fund the contras
without the Congress approval. They concluded that selling arms and weapons to a harmless ally
named Iran was the only way to go. They would sell the weapons to Iran in exchange for money,
which would then be put into a secret bank account and sent to the Nicaraguan Contras. This idea
was brilliant but illegal as well, it was high treason. These series of events will forever be known as

The Medical Field Is Always Advancing. Research Is Providing
The medical field is always advancing. Research is providing new means of improvement and
brand new technology. The technology is then used to help patients recover and prevent diseases.
Research and Development teams spend their entire careers testing and building new innovations
to help the field progress. Luckily, a new modern technology has been developed. What is this
technology? The 3D printer. 3D printers are surprisingly older than people think. They first started
in the late 1980 s and have rapidly progressed. Now the 3D printer has various applications in
many fields such as business, technology, medical field, etc.
Many social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook; and news sources have stated that 3D

The study found that the students that used the 3D printed model had a richer learning experience.
The technology allows the medical students to better learn the different physical structures and
organs. It also always them to practice different medical procedures and operations. Indeed, the
technology will help effectively train more capable doctors.
Another application is the ability to print models of patient s organs and specifically plan the
surgery. For instance, surgeons used an MRI to scan a patient s brain and print an exact replica.
A surgery was needed to remove a tumor. The surgeons could see the depth of the tumor and
specific details. This technology allows them to plan and practice the surgical procedures for each
patient s case. (see image above) The 3D printing technology has improved how doctors can plan
and practice to be able to perform precise procedures.
Also, the 3D printing technology provides medical schools with a less expensive alternative to
using cadavers. Cadaver are difficult to acquire, store, and need to be disposed of at certain
times. High quality 3D printers are a little pricy, but are more cost effective. This is due to the
availability of digital files of different models of organs online. With the rising demand of 3D
printers, the price is going down and becoming even more affordable for medical schools. This is
another way medical field is adapting to the 3D

Analysis Of The Limerence Of Martha

English 102

The Limerence of Martha Because of their similarities, Martha and Jimmy Cross are the same
person. They are not the same in who they are but what they represent. They know tragedy, loyalty,
and. This comparison between two characters is also common amongst many previous novels,
novellas, and short stories. A foil is defined as, by Literary Devices, qualities that are in contrast
with the qualities of another character, but it can also be used as comparisons. A few comparisons,
from William Shakespeare, are Macbeth and Banquo in the play The Tragedy of Macbeth and
Laertes, Claudius, and Fortinbras in the play Hamlet. In The Tragedy of Macbeth when the three

It is easy to tell that it is a full time job, and one obviously needs to be focused. Consistently
Jimmy Cross lacks the focus needed to do his job. That was his ultimate downfall as he was the
weak link that killed Ted Lavender. Once Ted Lavender was gone, only then did he listen to his
higher ups. Martha was his authority before them. The question remains as to what Martha
worshipped before her tragedy, but maybe that just wasn t needed for the story to go on. Martha
became a Lutheran Missionary. It is a common debate that women must be silent or subservient
in the church. They are allowed to teach other women and children, of course, but not men as 1

Choosing women to speak for him, like Deborah the mother in Israel, Martha was probably not

she is still religious. This would mean she has one commander: God. She has a loyalty to God as

Evaluating The President Is The Best President
Evaluating the President Essay Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man
s character, give him power. Abraham Lincoln ( Quotes , par. 4). Lincoln was able to lead the
country successfully in a position of great power, even when there was pressure and hardship.
President Lincoln is the best president because he was decisive, kindhearted, and trustworthy.
Decisiveness is essential for a great leader because they must know what they want to do, and
then they must confidently act on it. One example where Lincoln showed decisiveness is his
decision to hold Fort Sumter, and later his decision to declare war. One day after President
Lincoln took office, he received a message from Major Robert Anderson, commander of the
troops at Fort Sumter. Lincoln was informed that the troops were running low on supplies, such
as ammunition and food. Lincoln had to decide whether to order the troops to stay, or to give up
the Fort to the Confederacy by leaving and coming back to the Union. He asked his cabinet for
advice, and even though there were conflicting opinions, Lincoln did what he thought was best .
Lincoln decided that he would continue to have the troops hold the fort. He would try to get
supplies to them by sending an unarmed boats to Fort Sumter. The boats were unarmed so that if
the Confederate troops attacked, they would look aggressive and violent. In the end, this approach
helped prevent four states from seceding the Union ( Fort Sumter 1 5). The

Episodic Framing
James Britton, a professor at Oxford and the developer of multiple theories regarding language and
the effects it has on human learning wrote that experience is kaleidoscopic: the experience of
every moment is unique and unrepeatable. Until we can group items in it on the basis of their
similarity we can set up no expectations, make no predictions: lacking these we can make nothing
of the present moment . In the ever expanding field of media and journalism relatively little
attention has been paid to how the news is framed, and even less has been written about the
political consequences oUnited States due to a potential but almost impossible threat refugees have

Deception, especially in the media is a highly dangerous walking ground. It can come internally and
it can come externally. It comes through the mouth of people and sometimes even within the mind
of the individual. But the worst and most common scenario is when deception occurs in the media.
And to be able to spot deceptive techniques used in the news one most understand how to identify
frames. When identifying media frames the actual content of news reports is less relevant than the
interpretive commentary that surround it. Generally speaking this is broadly evident in journalism,
but it is especially evident in television news which is filled with metaphors, catchphrases, and
other symbolic devices that implicitly present an underlying storyline. By using these devices the
media is able to form a rhetorical bridge between bits of information by creating a context and
developing relationships between multiple

The human nervous system is divided into two main networks that work in harmony with each

Graffiti Is Bad
Graffiti: A force for evil
Graffiti refers to pictures or words inscribed on public property. It has been around for thousands
of years found in caves to modern buildings. However, several people argue whether modern
graffiti is a force representing good or evil. Graffiti is a negative method of portraying art due to
the fact that it negatively affects people within a community and the community itself, it consumes
a lot of a cities economy, and it is not necessary for it to be produced on public property.
Teenagers and young adults abuse graffiti which negatively impacts a community and the people
living within it, and here is how. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, young
adults...damage property for reasons of boredom, anger or revenge. Others vandalize to show
defiance toward rules, laws and authority or to draw attention to a cause . (6) In other words,
teenagers are wrongly influenced by graffiti and become rebellious towards the law and high
authorities. In addition, graffiti ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not necessary for people to deface public property. There are alternative resources
such as canvases in which people may produce their art. According to Noel Sanchez, Artists tag
both public and private property, which becomes costly for taxpayers and business and property
owners (Graffiti as Vandalism). As seen here, paint is being sprayed on public and private property
which negatively affects the taxpayers. In addition, not even art institutions such as the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Los Angeles or the Museum of the City of New York find graffiti attractive
on their property and prohibit their premises to be vandalized (Graffiti is Always Vandalism). This
proves that even art museums would not consider graffiti attractive if their own property was
covered in it, therefore suggesting that graffiti ruins

Equality In The Wild
Freedom, to be one s self, many people seek this, but not many succeed. Many people get stuck
conforming to society, and other outside forces, they are never really themselves so they only
care about society, as a result they never unlock their true potential. We strive to be like all our
brother men, for all men must be alike. (Rand 19) That quote illustrates that perfectly how society
is and one of the reasons Equality went and did his experiments, to be himself. In addition he was
unlocking his true potential. Not only that but also when he was doing it he was by himself, with
no restrictions, a free manto do what he wanted.

Limiting one s self to menial tasks and labors hinders that, in the same way being a street
sweeper hindered Equality s ability to do that. It is a great sin, to be born with a head that is too
quick. (Rand 21) In the society where Equality lived the council of vocations did not give jobs
based on skill or merit, they gave them to random people trying to limit them as best as they can.
To limit people to only half their potential destroys them as people, and in addition their drive to
succeed, thus keeping individualism out of sight and mind. With limiting people s potential they
also prevent people from doing what they want.
A life spent doing things one doesn t find joy in is a life wasted. Equality tried to convince
himself that he liked street sweeping, so that he could repent of his transgressions of preference,
but he never succeeded he always knew he was not meant to do that, we loved the science of
things. He even said that he loved science, he didn t love street sweeping he hated it, at no time

Spanking Harmful To Children Research Paper
Is Spanking Harmful to Children?
Spanking, also known as corporal punishment is a highly controversial method of discipline that
parents currently use in an attempt to modify their children s misbehavior. This type of punishment
is not known to uplift the essence of education in children, and many parents and researchers feel
that spanking leads to developmental problems. Research studies show how spanking produces a
negative effect in children, and parents and caregivers should reconsider the use of corporal
punishment as a form of discipline for their children because of its harmful effects. In addition, there
are other, better alternatives that can be used to discipline children.

It just requires that the parent or caregiver makes it know that he or she acknowledges the child s
good behavior.
In summary, spanking and corporal punishment are two things that have many opponents. But
many argue that spanking will and can do more harm than good. According to some researchers,
spanking does cause negative effects on children. Some researchers even say spanking causes
permanent emotional and developmental problems.
Fortunately, we discovered a few alternative forms of discipline that work exceptionally well when
disciplining children. A stern look is a very effective one. Another, would be time out, removing the
child from the situation, in turn interrupting the unwanted behavior. One more would be the
removal of privileges. Taking away electronics for a short period of time is a very effective
consequence. Lastly, would be positive praise, encouraging phrases that motivate children to
behave well.
Just remember when disciplining a child it is to be done out of love to teach him or her a positive

Advantages Of Traditional Job Analysis
Two very important human resource strategies are the traditional job analysis and competency
modelling. But which strategy is the better? It may be problematic to compare the traditional job
analysis and competency modelling as they strive for different goals/results. The most effective
way to compare the two models would be to argue which model s results would better benefit a
business/organization in terms of the business s strategy/goals. This essay will compare and

Improved ability to conduct research is another less tangible benefit associated with EHR. When
the data for patients is electronically stored, makes the data easily accessible hence more
quantitative analysis can be undertaken for identification of evidence based best practices with
ease. In addition, public health researchers use electronic clinical data more actively which have

EHRs disadvantages Irrespective of the findings regarding the advantages of various functionalities
of EHRs, some probable drawbacks on EHR have been identified by researchers. These comprise of
financial concerns, temporal loss in productivity linked with adoption of EHR, change in workflow,
security and confidentiality concerns and several unintentional consequences. Financial concerns
comprise of costs of adoption and implementation, cost of maintenance, revenue loss due to
temporal low productivity, and revenue declination. These factors act as deterrent for physicians

most of history, women have had fewer legal rights and career opportunities than men. Their ideal

Postmodernism Or The Cultural Logic Of Late Capitalism...
Fredric Jameson is admired as a standout amongst the most imperative and persuasive artistic and
social pundit and theoretician in the Marxist convention of the English speaking world. In his work
Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism Jameson endeavors to portray the way of
social creation in the second half of the twentieth century, the period of late capitalism, and to
recognize it from different manifestations of social generation of going before capitalist periods. A

differential investigation of masterpieces and building design from what Jameson terms high

The idea of postmodernism quickly raises the issue of periodization, involved by the prefix post

end? Is it safe to say that it is conceivable to define clear boundaries between modernism and

The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus At Colonus
A common debate that still rages today is whether we a a species have free will or if some
divine source, some call it fate, controls our destiny. With all the oracles and talk of prophecies,
it s obvious that there is some divine intention in Oedipus. First, in Oedipus at Colonus, there is
oracle at Delphi that tells Oedipus s parents and then himself that he will kill his father and
marry his mother. While free choices, such as Oedipus s decision to pursue knowledge of his
identity, are significant, fate is responsible for Oedipus s incest and many of the other most
critical and devastating events of the play. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles
suggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions. It becomes difficult, for
example, to blame Oedipus for marrying his mother given his ignorance. Oedipus is known for
being a smart dude. After all, he was the only guy around who could figure out the riddle of the
Sphinx. Unfortunately, for a large portion of his life he also lacks some significant information. If
he d known who his real parents were, he could ve avoided some seriously unfortunate situations.
You have to hand it to Oedipus, though, even when he s beginning to get the gist of the horrible
truth, he doesn t stop searching for it. In the end, you could see Oedipus as representing all of
humanity and our quest to understand the truth of ourselves and our place in the universe. In
William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the character Macbeth most values power because he was
willing to kill his relative and god appointed King Duncan, and his best friend Banquo to obtain
and keep the throne. Macbeth along with Oedipus is surging for power. Though he finds it,
Macbeth also believes he should constantly follow the deadly plot that the twisted witches set out
for him. In Act 1 Macbeth and his trusted friend Banquo cross paths with the witches unknowing
that they give away their future. Third Witch. Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none: So all

Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement
The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the
People (U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would
provide appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in
government via public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the
people. However, American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote.
During the drafting period of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote,
however, voting rights have drastically changed throughout the history of the United States.

Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base
of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study,
the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed,
vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned
(Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even
after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states
application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity
of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being
mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution
was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population)
had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and
machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United
States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly
unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. By the onset of

Reflection Paper On Pastor
INTERVIEW PAPER
I really enjoyed executing this interview. It was a privilege to be able to include my interviewee
in my assignment, as he has been supporting my decision to further my education and proceed with
my calling through Christ. Bill Kidd has been an associate pastor for over 7 years at Bethel Baptist
Church. Pastor Kidd was in school at the same time as myself and we always were able to
connect and relate to each other whenever we got together at meetings or other gatherings. I look
up to and respect his achievement in ministry and I am looking forward to learning from him as I
pursue my role in ministry.
My first question to pastor Bill was that interested me greatly, especially as I compared it to the
personal experience I had with God s call on my life. I asked about his experience with how and
why he was called into ministry. His story was captivating, like myself, his wife felt the tug
before he did. This call seems close to my own as my wife brought it to my attention before I
realized what God was doing. When reflecting on this situation I think about Mark 4:24, And he
said to them, Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you,
and still more will be added to you.
The second question I inquired about dealt with a dictatorship. This enticed him to confess his past
mistakes he had made regarding this subject. Pastor Bill found out that before he could point

The Rule Of Law And Political Power
The state is created to stave off anarchy and establish the rule of law. Critical to the organization of
a new state is the constitutional democratic regime which it adopts to ensure the longevity and
stability of the state. A key factor in determining state viability is the organization of the regime and
allocation of political power, a concept known as institutional design. How political power is
allocated among rival factions determines whether polarization and conflict results in compromise,
gridlock, or, in extreme cases, the collapse of the state. In democratic regimes, there have
historically been two formats under which political power has been designed: presidentialism and
parliamentarism. However, both have been unreliable. Presidentialism has exacerbated systematic
fragility in countries such as Brazil and Chile resulting in military coups. Parliamentarism has
caused the fragmentation of political power leading to a confusing proliferation of minority parties
and gridlock. In hopes of overcoming its constituents failures, a third system has been constructed
mixing aspects of both presidentialism and parliamentarism semi presidentialism. Employing both a
presidentand prime minister, semi presidentialism attempts to provide flexibility and continuity to
democratic regimes. This system is not to be confused with president parliamentarism, where the
president has the power to confirm or dismiss the prime minister . Without leverage over the prime

USAID Safe Mothers Program in Indonesia
SIAGA Campaigns Within Indonesia The US Agency for International Development also known
as USAID implemented a campaign in 1998 into Indonesia in order to promote a 5 year safe
motherhood program. This campaign involved the participation of not only USAID but the
Indonesian government, the National Family Planning Coordinating Board, and several NGO s.
The campaign was labeled as the Maternal and Neonatal Health Program (MNH) . This program
involved multiple campaigns including Warga SIAGA (Alert Citizen), Suami SIAGA (Alert
Husband), Bidan SIAGA (Alert Midwife), and Desa SIAGA (Alert Village) to ensure that women
live through pregnancyand childbirthto raise their children. The campaigns used radio, television,

Their recommended end line sample predicted having 3,226 members involved which included:
Women, husbands, midwives, and community influentials. The end line survey sample showed
that there were only 2,925 involved members of the same demographics. Despite the numbers
above, I would say that the organization positioned itself well within this campaign. Jhpiego s
mission statement reads, innovating to save lives which is exactly what this campaign was
centered around. ( Jhpiego.org ) They continue to further their goals to improve maternal,
newborn, and prenatal health in Indonesia today. Though the program did not reach it s overall
goals, I believe that their representation within Indonesia was and continues to be successful. The
entire campaign generated a behavior change that was present among Indonesians up until 1998.
Jhpiego, the company who coordinated the program is still working in Indonesia to treat
Eclampsia in mothers and newborns and is once again partnered with USAID.( Jhpiego.org )
Their efforts in this campaign include many of the same aspects of the SIAGA campaign
including midwives, and seeking early prenatal care. Jhpiego is working to this day in order to
effectively train midwives in Indonesia to better prepare them for emergencies. The continued
efforts of this organization being welcomed into the country over 15 years later, speaks to the
representation of this campaign. The success of the Eclampsia campaign, I believe can be

The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and
the days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed
the world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to
traverse. In this gray, dull worldthere is little in the way of color or lightto be seen. The sky has
become gray, and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic
world the use of color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy
utilizes this scarcity of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old
worldand new, and between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics.
The primary use of this contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task
to carry the fire. The man and boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape
of gray, endlessly foraging in wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers,
cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at
every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man and boy are one of the few people still holding
on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands they abandon it in order to survive. The world
that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This darkness ecompases not only the physical
darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and
fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral corruption that has engulfed humanity. In
this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity. Two of the last of the survivors
carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt world. Additionally, the boy s role
as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s ethical dilemma. The man has little
desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown into. Whereas the man s wife
ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option presented to them, the man
is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man is left with a sole

Jailbreaking Persuasive Speech
Being able to customize your iPhone in any way possible without any backlash would probably
be something everybody wants to do. Some people just want iPhones to be part of the crowd.
Other people jailbreak their iPhones to stand out in their own way. Customization of an iPhone is a
key way to stand out. The way to customize an iPhoneanyway is to jailbreak it and have Cydia
installed. The only thing stopping you from jailbreaking your iPhone is the Apple Company, they
make jailbreaking hard for everybody. Cydia Jailbreaking should be considered a positive addition
to Apple products.
Cydia is an app that is installed with the most common Pangu and Taig jailbreaks. Jailbreaking
your iPhone notes that Cydia is an application installed when you jailbreak your iOS device that
provides access to third party applications not submitted to/approved by Apple (Breen). The
application allows you to customize your iOS device in ways never even thought of. The
installation of Cydia gives you full control over the jailbroken device. Jailbreaks can t be developed
by just one person.
Taig and Pangu are jailbreak development teams. Rachit states that iOS 7.1 was released in the
wake of this jailbreaking which remained unbroken for some time until, Pangu, a Chinese jailbreak
hit the Apple ( iOS Jailbreaking ). In November 2014, the TaiG team released their... Show more

Preparation Of Scarification And Stratification
Started this experiment on February 25th and we gathered all our results on May 3rd 2016.
When we started we tested Redbuds in 4 treatments and tested Peaches in 3 treatments. For the
Redbuds, we did a control group with nothing but wrapping it with a paper towel and storing it
into a Ziploc bag. Then we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with
sulfuric acid with promix (not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist
promix. For peaches we also had a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for
the second lot we placed that seeds in moist promix in a cooler. Finally, for the third lot we
soaked the seeds in water for a week and added moist promix and then placed in the cooler. As a
result, to this experiment of scarification and stratification we have seen that lot 3 for Redbuds
(scarification) germinated 16/40, which is a good amount of germination. For stratification with the
peaches only lot 2 germinated 1/20 which was more than the other lots.
Introduction:
Scarification in botany involves weakening, opening, or otherwise altering the coat of a seed to
encourage germination. Scarification is often done mechanically, thermally, and chemically. The
seeds of many plant species are often impervious to water and gases, thus preventing or delaying
germination. Any process designed to make the testa (seed coat) more permeable to water and
gases (and thus more likely to germinate) is known as scarification.

What Is The Mission Statement Of Brevard Zoo
According to Daniels and Bailey (1982), the mission of an organization is the reason it exists. For
organizations, such as zoological facilities the single most important outcome that measures
success, is the preservation of wild species and places. Wildlife Conservation through Education and

The Contribution Of Servant Leadership
It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice
brings one to aspire to lead. What is servant leadership? Servant leadership is shown when an
individual or an organization thrives to support others around them and uses their power to make
others stronger. (Robert K. Greenleaf)
16 year old immigrant, John W. Nordstromcame from Sweden, arriving in America with the hope
of starting a better life. 14 years later, he opened a shoe store, the beginning of one of America s
leading fashion lines today. Known for its outstanding customer service, you may know it as
Nordstrom. The founder of this company was one of the many business leaders who made it big in
the Klondike Gold Rush. John W. Nordstrom demonstrated servant leadership by showing his
determination through hard work and developing a philosophy to always deliver customers the best
service possible, a foundation for the company s success today.
John W. Nordstrom was born on February 15th, 1871. His childhood was not a happy one. When
he turned 16, he decided to leave his home country for America. In the first years of his
childhood, his family got along fine. However, after his father s death, his family s lives
depended on him and his siblings. In his autobiography, he recited that his mother expected him to

Coming Of Age Rituals In Bronze Age
Coming of Age Rituals from the Bronze Age to the Present Greek culture was forged in the
crucible of the Bronze Age civilization which has heavily influenced millennia of cultures to follow
(Pomeroy, Sarah B, and Rogers D. Spotswood Collection xiii). The height of the Bronze Age is
defined by an exquisite amount of creative and youthful energy, beginning around the year of 1600
BC. Prominent rituals from these cultures and era are apparent through archeological findings and
are even visible today via popular traditions and spiritual practices demonstrated in our
contemporary society. A specific category of rituals, coming of age rituals, which are defined as the
attainment of prominence, respectability, recognition, or maturity , were fundamental in the Bronze
Age and were so pivotal to their society that they continue to existing today in modern society
through different forms and structures (Merriam Webster). Contemporary Western ceremonies for
transitional periods are influenced by Spartan and Mycenaean Bronze Age coming of age rituals.
The influential Spartan and Mycenaean Bronze Age civilizations were technologically advanced
for their time, however, they still employed segregated rituals for the two different sexes. Males
and females spent a significant portion of their lives separate from each other until they reached the
age of marriage. The rituals, which were specifically used to mark differing poignant moments in
the lives of the maturing adolescents, were

The Effect Of Groucho s Short Story Of Casablanca
The effect of Groucho s short history of Casablanca is to create a humour but yet also sarcasm
scenario. The letter says, It seems that in 1471, Ferdinand Balboa Warner, your great great
grandfather ... had stumbled on the shores of Africa and, raising his aplentock, which he later
turned in for a hundred shares of common, named it Casablanca (Groucho). Groucho finds it
ridiculous that the Warner Brothers thinks they own the city name Casablanca. He makes up a how
supposedly the Warner Brothers were given the right to own the name not because they made a
movie using the title Casablanca.
4) It would really not be difficult to distinguish Ingrid Bergman and Harpo Marx. In Footnote 4
and 5 it says, The beautiful female star of Casablanca ... Harpo was Groucho s brother and part of
the Marx Brothers; he wore a red, curly haired wig (Footnote 4 and 5). This comes to show that it
would not difficult to distinguish a female from a male a red curly haired wig. Unless one is blind
then one may have some trouble. However, it is not the case in this situation. Groucho is trying to
make an excuse to contradict the Warner Brothers.
5) Marx offers so many examples of Brothers to create a sense of humor but also contradict the
legal name accusation of the Warner Brothers. Groucho says, What about Warner Brother ? Do you
own that too ... Professionally, we were brothers before you were (Marx). This comes to show that
Groucho wanted to make the Warner Brothers realize they also may

DUKAN DIET BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE DIET: In our society, there are a lot of different
types of diet. Some of them are not healthy, but some diets bring nourish nutrient to our body to

I Watched A Fair Amount Of Television
Growing up, I watched a fair amount of television. Being the late 1990s and early 2000s, some of
my favorites included Sesame Street, The Rugrats, Veggie Tales, and Little Bill. All of which,
starred mostly male characters. At the time, I didn t think much of it; it made sense for boys to be
the stars. All of my teddy bears had boynames, the genderneutral characters in my books were boys,
and I even called my femalecat a boy. It wasn t until later when I became more educated on gender
inequality and stereotypes that I noticed the problem on television and in other aspects of my
childhood that affected the way that I thought.
In 1991, Katha Pollitt, a poet and essayist, published Hers; The Smurfette Principle. She starts
her essay off by telling the readers about her personal experience raising a daughter in a male
dominated world. Pollitt mentions how she struggled with finding a children s movie starring a
female with more than just a nice figure, a pretty face, and a damsel in distress personality to
give to her daughter for Christmas. She finally chose Disney s The Little Mermaid . Ariel, despite
looking like the stereotypical princess, is brave, determined, and the hero of her own story unlike
most Disney princesses. Pollitt considered Ariel role model material for her preschool age daughter
and other young girls alike. Pollitt claims that television networks, movies, and books that are
mostly male dominant send negative messages to the developing mind of

What Role Does Gravity Play In Glacial Movement
Glaciers are formed on land from the compaction of snow and ice and because of their size and
weight they can reshape mountains and land masses (Thompson Turk, 2007). Glacial movement
can be explained from two different processes known as basal slip and plastic flow. Basal slip is
when a glacier glides over the bedrock due to an increase in water between the glacierand the
bedrock (Thompson Turk, 2007). Plastic flow is when a glacier flows like a viscous fluid, such
as the center of a glacier moving faster than the sides due to the friction of the valley walls or the
top of a glacier moving faster than the base due to the friction of the bedrock (Thompson Turk,
2007). Gravity plays a major role in glacial movement along with the size,... Show more content on

All of these erosion descriptions define glacial erosion created by alpine glaciers. Alpine
glaciers are confined to mountain tops and valleys where it is cold and wet. A continental
glacier can erode mountains and land masses just like alpine glaciers, but continental glaciers
are not confined to mountains and valleys and they are spread over large distances. Glacial
erosion will reshape mountains by forming cirques and reshape valleys by forming U shaped
valleys. Glaciers cut into the walls of its surroundings and cut into the bedrock as it slowly slides,
which creates a u shaped depression in the land. Glacial erosion reshaped many landscapes that are
popular tourist sites today and assisted with the deposition of sediment to the lower lying regions

of his life, getting infection after infection. He had to get his leg amputated, which caused another
even more infections (He passed away from illness). After doing research on this topic and seeing
that the innate immune system helps fight infections. I did some research to see if diabetes can
have an effect on the immune systems production. According to Diabeticconnect.com, people
with diabetes have a slower immune response and get infections easily because diabetes
damages insulin cells. My mother has kidney disease; she gets kidney stones often and also very
sick easily. I did some more research on this to just check out if there was any correlation and
there was. Damaged kidneys will cause lots of unnecessary toxins that can damage certain organs
or tissues which can lead to damages of the immune system. My mother takes pills to help with
her disease, but one of the side effects according to Kidneyservechina.com, is that lots of
medication can reduce immunity. These are two people in my life that have had a lot of issues,

The Great Depression in Alex Kershaw s The Bedford Boys
Bedford Boys 1. How did the Great Depression affect the town of Bedford before the war? What
programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many
of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United
States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many
others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily
based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the
people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often
foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores
of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was
possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst
years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the
Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and
took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became
apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. With the administration of Franklin
Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New Deal works projects, things became better
for many people in Bedford and throughout the nation. One of the potential job opportunities for

  • 2. Iran-Contra Scandal So I guess in a way they are counter revolutionary, and God bless them for being that way and I guess that makes them contras, and so it makes me a contra too. In 1979, a bitter war broke out in Nicaragua between the Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction, the Nicaraguan government, and the Contras, a vicious rebel group. The goal of this war was simple, overthrow the Nicaraguan government and restore freedom for all Nicaraguan citizens. It was this that caught the eye of the American government and it was not too long before the U.S began to fund the Contras. Although the United States government funded the contras, they viewed them with skepticism being that they were extremely controversial. The U.S president during this time, Ronald Reagan, fell in love with the contras belief system and fought to keep them funded. Later on the United States support became limited, which left the president in search of a new way to keep the Contras money flow regular. Soon after, former president Ronald Reagan and his administrators contrived a way to continue to fund the contras without the Congress approval. They concluded that selling arms and weapons to a harmless ally named Iran was the only way to go. They would sell the weapons to Iran in exchange for money, which would then be put into a secret bank account and sent to the Nicaraguan Contras. This idea was brilliant but illegal as well, it was high treason. These series of events will forever be known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Limerence Of Martha Leo Verrillo Professor Abbott English 102 3 October 2017 The Limerence of Martha Because of their similarities, Martha and Jimmy Cross are the same person. They are not the same in who they are but what they represent. They know tragedy, loyalty, and. This comparison between two characters is also common amongst many previous novels, novellas, and short stories. A foil is defined as, by Literary Devices, qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character, but it can also be used as comparisons. A few comparisons, from William Shakespeare, are Macbeth and Banquo in the play The Tragedy of Macbeth and Laertes, Claudius, and Fortinbras in the play Hamlet. In The Tragedy of Macbeth when the three witches are telling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is easy to tell that it is a full time job, and one obviously needs to be focused. Consistently Jimmy Cross lacks the focus needed to do his job. That was his ultimate downfall as he was the weak link that killed Ted Lavender. Once Ted Lavender was gone, only then did he listen to his higher ups. Martha was his authority before them. The question remains as to what Martha worshipped before her tragedy, but maybe that just wasn t needed for the story to go on. Martha became a Lutheran Missionary. It is a common debate that women must be silent or subservient in the church. They are allowed to teach other women and children, of course, but not men as 1 Timothy 2:11 12 states A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. Even with examples of God Choosing women to speak for him, like Deborah the mother in Israel, Martha was probably not in a church that was tolerant toward women leaders. Regardless of if she leads the entire world, she is still religious. This would mean she has one commander: God. • 6. Evaluating The President Is The Best President Evaluating the President Essay Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. Abraham Lincoln ( Quotes , par. 4). Lincoln was able to lead the country successfully in a position of great power, even when there was pressure and hardship. President Lincoln is the best president because he was decisive, kindhearted, and trustworthy. Decisiveness is essential for a great leader because they must know what they want to do, and then they must confidently act on it. One example where Lincoln showed decisiveness is his decision to hold Fort Sumter, and later his decision to declare war. One day after President Lincoln took office, he received a message from Major Robert Anderson, commander of the troops at Fort Sumter. Lincoln was informed that the troops were running low on supplies, such as ammunition and food. Lincoln had to decide whether to order the troops to stay, or to give up the Fort to the Confederacy by leaving and coming back to the Union. He asked his cabinet for advice, and even though there were conflicting opinions, Lincoln did what he thought was best . Lincoln decided that he would continue to have the troops hold the fort. He would try to get supplies to them by sending an unarmed boats to Fort Sumter. The boats were unarmed so that if the Confederate troops attacked, they would look aggressive and violent. In the end, this approach helped prevent four states from seceding the Union ( Fort Sumter 1 5). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus At Colonus A common debate that still rages today is whether we a a species have free will or if some divine source, some call it fate, controls our destiny. With all the oracles and talk of prophecies, it s obvious that there is some divine intention in Oedipus. First, in Oedipus at Colonus, there is oracle at Delphi that tells Oedipus s parents and then himself that he will kill his father and marry his mother. While free choices, such as Oedipus s decision to pursue knowledge of his identity, are significant, fate is responsible for Oedipus s incest and many of the other most critical and devastating events of the play. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles suggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions. It becomes difficult, for example, to blame Oedipus for marrying his mother given his ignorance. Oedipus is known for being a smart dude. After all, he was the only guy around who could figure out the riddle of the Sphinx. Unfortunately, for a large portion of his life he also lacks some significant information. If he d known who his real parents were, he could ve avoided some seriously unfortunate situations. You have to hand it to Oedipus, though, even when he s beginning to get the gist of the horrible truth, he doesn t stop searching for it. In the end, you could see Oedipus as representing all of humanity and our quest to understand the truth of ourselves and our place in the universe. Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). Critical to the organization of a new state is the constitutional democratic regime which it adopts to ensure the longevity and stability of the state. A key factor in determining state viability is the organization of the regime and allocation of political power, a concept known as institutional design. How political power is allocated among rival factions determines whether polarization and conflict results in compromise, gridlock, or, in extreme cases, the collapse of the state. In democratic regimes, there have historically been two formats under which political power has been designed: presidentialism and parliamentarism. However, both have been unreliable. Presidentialism has exacerbated systematic fragility in countries such as Brazil and Chile resulting in military coups. • 24. The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse. In this gray, dull worldthere is little in the way of color or lightto be seen. The sky has become gray, and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old worldand new, and between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity. Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown into. Then we soaked redbuds in sulfuric acid without promix, and soaked them with sulfuric acid with promix (not moist), and then for the last lot we wrapped redbuds with moist promix. For peaches we also had a control group with just storing them in a Ziploc bag, and for the second lot we placed that seeds in moist promix in a cooler. The letter says, It seems that in 1471, Ferdinand Balboa Warner, your great great grandfather ... had stumbled on the shores of Africa and, raising his aplentock, which he later turned in for a hundred shares of common, named it Casablanca (Groucho). Groucho finds it ridiculous that the Warner Brothers thinks they own the city name Casablanca. He makes up a how supposedly the Warner Brothers were given the right to own the name not because they made a movie using the title Casablanca. 4) It would really not be difficult to distinguish Ingrid Bergman and Harpo Marx. In Footnote 4 and 5 it says, The beautiful female star of Casablanca ... Harpo was Groucho s brother and part of the Marx Brothers; he wore a red, curly haired wig (Footnote 4 and 5). This comes to show that it would not difficult to distinguish a female from a male a red curly haired wig. Unless one is blind then one may have some trouble. However, it is not the case in this situation. Groucho is trying to make an excuse to contradict the Warner Brothers. 5) Marx offers so many examples of Brothers to create a sense of humor but also contradict the legal name accusation of the Warner Brothers. • 35. I Watched A Fair Amount Of Television Growing up, I watched a fair amount of television. Being the late 1990s and early 2000s, some of my favorites included Sesame Street, The Rugrats, Veggie Tales, and Little Bill. All of which, starred mostly male characters. At the time, I didn t think much of it; it made sense for boys to be the stars. All of my teddy bears had boynames, the genderneutral characters in my books were boys, and I even called my femalecat a boy. It wasn t until later when I became more educated on gender inequality and stereotypes that I noticed the problem on television and in other aspects of my childhood that affected the way that I thought. In 1991, Katha Pollitt, a poet and essayist, published Hers; The Smurfette Principle. She starts her essay off by telling the readers about her personal experience raising a daughter in a male dominated world. Pollitt mentions how she struggled with finding a children s movie starring a female with more than just a nice figure, a pretty face, and a damsel in distress personality to give to her daughter for Christmas. She finally chose Disney s The Little Mermaid . Ariel, despite looking like the stereotypical princess, is brave, determined, and the hero of her own story unlike most Disney princesses. Pollitt considered Ariel role model material for her preschool age daughter and other young girls alike. • 36. What Role Does Gravity Play In Glacial Movement Glaciers are formed on land from the compaction of snow and ice and because of their size and weight they can reshape mountains and land masses (Thompson Turk, 2007). Glacial movement can be explained from two different processes known as basal slip and plastic flow. Basal slip is when a glacier glides over the bedrock due to an increase in water between the glacierand the bedrock (Thompson Turk, 2007). Plastic flow is when a glacier flows like a viscous fluid, such as the center of a glacier moving faster than the sides due to the friction of the valley walls or the top of a glacier moving faster than the base due to the friction of the bedrock (Thompson Turk, 2007). Gravity plays a major role in glacial movement along with the size,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of these erosion descriptions define glacial erosion created by alpine glaciers. Alpine glaciers are confined to mountain tops and valleys where it is cold and wet. A continental glacier can erode mountains and land masses just like alpine glaciers, but continental glaciers are not confined to mountains and valleys and they are spread over large distances. Glacial erosion will reshape mountains by forming cirques and reshape valleys by forming U shaped valleys. Glaciers cut into the walls of its surroundings and cut into the bedrock as it slowly slides, which creates a u shaped depression in the land. Glacial erosion reshaped many landscapes that are popular tourist sites today and assisted with the deposition of sediment to the lower lying regions and into rivers and ... What programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. With the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New Deal works projects, things became better for many people in Bedford and throughout the nation.
