You just started a new job. The team you are working on is getting ready to start a project. The project involves your team organizing and hosting a luncheon for the organization’s staff and their families. The company employs 3,000 people spanning over 5 states (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio). The team has 90 days to hold this luncheon. Part A Looking at the luncheon as a project, identify factors that could constrain the success of the luncheon? Part B Think of an experience you have had working with a group of people to accomplish a goal. Provide your peers with a description of the makeup of the group and the goal trying to be attained. Discuss whether the group was successful and what contributed to its success. If the group was not successful, please identify what caused the challenges resulting in its failure. Solution (A) The factors that can constrain the success of the project luncheon are - (B) Our team tried to implement an RFID project in our department. The project was carried out to detect every item manufactured with an RFID tag and to take the inventory position and production planning to automation level. A lot of work was involved including procurement of hardware, software development, integration with the existing system, training, readiness before go-live, and stabilization. The project was a new approach to our area. We were supposed to fix RFID tags on all the containers and RFID readers at the exit gates of the department just before issuing to the customers. This particular project failed. The main reason for the failure was the inexperience of the project manager. There was a complete lack of understanding in almost all levels as what we want to achieve out of the project. Also, the budget approved was not close to what we required to implement the project in a complete and closed-loop manner. Finally, the users of the systems, the lie supervisors, were not confident about the new system and postproduction support was not available from their side. This was because that the project team never bothered to take their feedback at any stage of the project..
