Paul Renner
The type designer I chose is Paul Renner he was an graphic artist, type designer, author, and teacher
from Germany in the late 1800 s early 1900 s. As he started his artistic road he began in the study of
architecture and painting in Berlin, which led him to work as a painter. Then he cofounded a private
school of illustration in Munich. He was also the designer behind the typefaces Futura, Plak, Futura
Black, Futura Schlagzeile, Ballade, Renner Antiqua, and Steile Futura. These typefaces are still being
used today in big movie titles.
The typeface Futura is the typeface known as a landmark for modern graphic design. Renner can be
seen as a bridge between the traditional 19th century and the modern 20th century design (Paul
Renner). Futura ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted to shape the new life surrounded by aesthetics and intellectual skills through material and
spiritual forms. He applied art through typefaces or books trying to give a different perspective in life.
He saw it as looking outward into the world rather than looking into the distance. It seems as if he was
trying to get people s mentality out of society s point of view and see it from their own perspective.
These are some of the movies that the Futura typeface is actually being used and they are very recent
films. It is impressive how a typeface that was done over 100 years ago still has such an effect on
society today. Not only are these typefaces used in the movie posters, but also inside the movie itself.
This is one of Renner s works of art he had made; it is a poster for an exhibition of work from the
Bavarian Trade. Renner made his first drawing of Futura in 1924 and it wasn t until three years later
that it was available. He had much competition from other artist as well trying to make modern
typefaces. Die Neue Typographie dogmatically called for the use of sans serif typefaces, asymmetrical
layouts, and grid based geometric shapes (Paul

Marijuana User Summary
In relation to the differences in experimental, recreational, and being addicted to an illicit drug, I
would have to agree with Howard Beckers Becoming a Marijuana User, which he wrote in 1953. As
for the action of those in the category of experimental drug users, I believe that those are the ones who
have been aroused by some external factors, such as friends and/or media influences, as to the high
feelings that are associated with the effects of drugs, for the first time. Becker put it in a better sensible
notion when his study revealed: the process of learning to use and learning to associate its effects with
a sense of pleasure (Humphrey Schmalleger, 2012). With recreational drug usage, those are the people
who have come to know

Old Shoe Comparison
Art is used as a way to express oneself and share stories or emotions with others. Every person goes
through a swing of emotions and events throughout their life. Everyone chooses a different way to
deal with these event and emotions. Some may not feel comfortable expressing themselves and keep
to themselves, while others may be very outspoken. For artist they portray this emotion in their works.
Among artists they also each have their own way of expressing themselves. Each artist has their own
preference and paint in different styles. Every piece of art is different in its own way. No two artists
will create the exact same piece of art. Even if they create similar paintings, there are difference in the
styles and meaning behind it. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bright colors could represent the great outcome if the republicans were to win. The wine in the
back also looks to me like a symbol of victory. Its hidden in the back because no one is sure how the
war will turn out. The darker colors could be the outcome if Franco and the nationalist were to win.
The bread make me think of all the poor people effected by the war and thats most likely all they were
able to afford to eat. The fruit with the fork in it is a more complex. Spain has some regions that are
completely dependent on agriculture. With a war taking place, farms and lively hoods would be
destroyed. I believe the fruit symbolizes all the agriculture that was lost during the war. The shoe was
the most symbolic to me because I believe it can represent various things. It can represent the soldiers
who fought for what they believed in. It could also be all the families and civilians that were forced to
move out of Spain because of the war. Lastly the Spanish civil war was known as a battleground for
ideologies of people from all over the world. The shoe can also represent all the people from all
around the world who traveled to Spain to

Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani
Enemy Within, Enemy Without
Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her unfortunate
past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything she has worked so
hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto Rossellini s neorealist war
drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City
concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at the hands of their German occupiers
and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants crumbling away in both body and spirit over
the course of a cruel winter. In their city s darkest hour, average citizens rise up to become heroes and

In the first place, it has the wind blown look of a film shot from actualities, with the camera
providentially on the scene. The stringent necessity for economy compelled the producers to make a
film that has all the appearance and flavor of a straight documentary.
Crudely shot on discarded US Signal Corps film whenever Rosellini could throw together the money
to pay for further filming, the film s bleak visuals become a character in and of themselves, bracingly
authentic despite their complete absence of polish. Much like the characters themselves, the film is
quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself.
By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone
quite the dramatic makeover. Reaping the benefits from American investment and the creation of the
European Common Market, Italians saw their standard living rise to never before seen heights. As
John F. Kennedy extolled while addressing a dinner held in his honor by then President of Italy

Corporate Finance Analyst Of The Investment Bank
Introduction:
The corporate finance analyst of the investment bank is required to compute the fair price of the bond
and to estimate the number of bond issuing. The computation is based on the yield to maturity, which
measures the return that an investor would expect to receive by holding a bond until maturity.
The Yield Curve, also known as term structure of interest rate, is a commonly used financial tool that
tracks the relation between the yields and the time to maturity of a bond. Estimating the yield on a non
currently traded bond and identifying mispriced bonds are the purposes of using the yield curve. It
could, furthermore, be used to forecast future performance of the yield on a bond. (Harris, 2014) The
yield curve could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Fig. 1)
Knowing that, the A rated bond, which was required to issue for the purpose of raising five million
dollars debt, had a coupon rate of 5.5%, a maturity of 15 years and one $1000 face value .
Results:
Considering the third order polynomial method with using the OLS regression, gave the values of
estimated parameters. (Table 1) Thus, the function of fitted yield curve, which estimated the
relationship between the yields and the time to maturity, could be determined. ( Fig. 2) Given that the
time to maturity of required issuing bond was 15 years, which could therefore gave the yield of
5.005% according to the fitted yield curve function. Consequently, this would give the bond price of
$1051.748 and the number of bond that investment bank should issue to raise debt was 4754. For a
more precise estimation, the sub data set of the A rated bonds that had the coupon rate ranging from
5% to 6% could be picked out and calculated with the same procedure applied as before. This would
then gave the the yield to maturity of 4.957%, bond price of 1056.979 and the number of issuing bond
of 4730. (Table 2)
Limitation:
The third order polynomial fitted yield curve approach gives the estimated relationship between yields
and maturities, however, the fitted trend is not capable enough to explain the variation in bond yields
perfectly. If the required issuing

St. Andrews And The Royal And Ancient Golf Course
The next day left the hotel and drove about 15 miles to St. Andrews and The Royal and Ancient golf
course. Compared to the all the other places where we stayed on the trip, the hotel where we stayed
just outside of St. Andrews could at best be described as so so. It was sort of like an older motel in the
USA, but it was clean and reasonably comfortable and the dinner that night and breakfast the next
morning were good. Well, I should preface the latter comment and say I tried the Scottish traditional
breakfast of haggis , and I could not swallow the first bite. No one told me it was made primarily with
lamb, and I will not eat lamb under any circumstances.
After breakfast, we headed out to St. Andrews and the Royal and Ancient Club the Mecca of golf.
When we arrived at the clubhouse, we found out they were having a board meeting that day and we
would not be able to play on the Old course, but we could go to the New course and not have any
problem getting on at that course. The first thing we had to do was rent some clubs because neither
brought clubs on the trip. So, we went to a small shop not far from the course and rented some clubs.
Playing golf in Scotland is a little different from playing golf in America. The noticeable differences
are the height of the rough and the depth of the sand bunkers. The rough is almost knee high and sand
traps and bunkers are about 6 or 7 feet deep and reinforced with a brick retaining wall. Well, we got to

Terry Malloy On The Waterfront Essay
When 43 year old director Elia Kazan was called to the stage in the House of Un American Activities,
he did something that would change his career forever. He testified as a friendly witness which
resulted in hatred from many of his colleagues. In 1954, two years after his testimony, Kazan
produced On the Waterfront. Being one of his most famous works, On the Waterfront was an instant
success, winning an abundance of awards and solidifying Kazan as one of the best and most
influential directors of the early film making era. Terry Malloy, the movies main character, was a
middle aged shore man who was caught up with the wrong group of people, which resulted in him
being part of a mob hit. Throughout this film, Malloy battled his own self conscious about him being a
part of the killing of Joey Doyle, all the while being in a relationship with Edie Doyle, Joey s sister.
Finally, Terry decides to speak at a court hearing and gives crucial information that pointed directly to
the mob being guilty of the killing. At the end of the movie, Terry confronts Johnny Friendly, the mob
leader, and goes to work after being severely beaten, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this would be when Terry confessed his actions to the priest. Kazan expressed his
feelings about what he did by having Malloy confess to the father, which in a way made Kazan more
satisfied within himself. To explain, when Terry chased after Father Barry outside the church, he
confessed to what he had done to Joey and then said to the priest, But you know if I spill, my life ain t
worth a nickel. To this Father Barry replied, And how much is your soul worth if you don t? Kazan felt
the need to include this exchange of words for a couple of reasons, the biggest being the fact that he
was trying to show that what he had done at the House of Un American activities had been the
justified choice so that he could be at peace with

Myth Of The Huichol Indians
Introduction The Huichol Indians are an indigenous group that lives in the Sierra Madre Mountains of
northwestern Mexico (Woolcott). The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr.
Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals, plants,
rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better understand the
Huichol Indians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism, rituals, religious
specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives.
Myth
One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These
types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s
myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2).
The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the
creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary opposition
that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth. According to Eidt, in
the Huichol origin myth the first human, named Watacame, and his black female dog, Tziku Mayuri,
had to withstand five days of monsoons, wind, waves, flooding and storming (Eidt). After Watacame
had successfully survived the storm, the Goddess Takutzi Nakawe (Grandmother Rain)

Predatory Lending and Inequality Essay
For many years, the American dream has been deteriorating for several reasons. Paul Krugman, author
of Confronting Inequality, blames the inequality of our income distribution. He explains how and why
the differences between wages of the poor and wealthy are a major conflict in today s society.
Constance M. Ruzich and A. J. Grant, authors of Predatory Lending and the Devouring of the
American Dream, argue that the downfall of the American dream has occurred because of predatory
lending acts. According to the authors, predatory lending and inequality play a very significant role in
the corruption of the American dream. Predatory lending has caused many conflicts in the American
society. Victims who fall for predatory lending are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why is it so important and why has it caused the economy such agony? Americans, both wealthy and
poor, try their absolute best to maintain a decent lifestyle for their children so they may have more
open opportunities, especially during these difficult hardships. Many middle class Americans are
purchasing homes that they may not be able to afford. Why? Because they want to make sure their
children are living in a good neighborhood with a good school to receive an education. This shows
how the wealthy and poor have different standards of living in terms of money management. This
inequality connects back to predatory lending. People who purchase homes over their budgets will
have more income difficulties and financial problems. This is likely to lead to subprime mortgages
which, in an unfortunate turn, adds to the distress of the economy. Paul Krugman, an economy
professor at Princeton and op ed writer for the New York Times, states in his essay, The lack of clear
economic progress for lower and middle income families is in itself an important reason to seek a
more equal distribution of income. The inequality within our present society has caused a ridiculous
amount of misfortune and concern. Incomes are unequal which raises questions as to who is living the
better life and who is at a better advantage. Krugman also mentions in his essay, Our unique lack of
universal health care, all by itself puts Americans who are unlucky in

Essay about Ancient Egypt
Egyptian history is rich, vibrant, and full of interesting cultural knowledge. Egypt is one of the most
fertile countries located in the Mediterranean Sea; because approximately 40,000 years ago many
people lived in Egypt earlier than in other places. The Egyptian environment is a hot and dry area,
because it is a part of the Sahara Desert. Many Egyptians religious beliefs were polytheistic; they
believed in several different gods. The economy during the ancient Egyptian time period was different
because they were one of the first groups on earth to begin the farming trade. Although Egyptian
history occurred many years ago, it is still interesting and fascinating. (Environment/ culture, Religion,

Egyptians have been polytheistic since the beginning of time and throughout the Old Kingdom,

said to have worshipped their gods with animal sacrifices and many of the people would carry images
of the god from place to place. In the beginning the Egyptians believed that only pharaohs had an

representative here on earth. Some thought that maybe he was a god himself and that made everything
in Egypt belong to him. They later began to believe that everyone, including animals, had an afterlife.
Egyptians trusted that when a person died Anubis would weigh your soul compared with a feather.

was heavier than the feathers with bad deeds, that person would be punished. The heart was thrown to

Raphael Sanzio Da Urbino Research Paper
The Life of Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino By: Ben Mikus (5/1/16) Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino,
otherwise known as Raphael Sanzio of Urbino, was born on April 6, 1483 in Urbino, Italy. When he
was young, his father, Giovanni Santi, was his role model, being a painter for Federigo da
Moantefeltro, the Duke of Umbria. When he was eleven years old, Giovanni died and Raphael took up
his father s jobs of painting and managing the workshop. When he was only 17, Pietro Vannunci,
better known as Perugino, offered him a job as apprentice. Raphael agreed and was excited to gain
both knowledge and a hand on experience. In the four years that the apprenticeship lasted, Raphael
painted many religious works including: the Mond Crucifixion (c. 1502), The Three Graces (c. 1503),
The Knight s Dream (1504), and the Marriage of the Virgin (finished in 1504). After the completion of

Andy Clark s Natural-Born Cyborgs Essay
Andy Clark, in Natural Born Cyborgs, offers an extended argument that technology s impact on and
intertwining with ordinary biological human life is not to be feared, either psychologically or morally.
Clark offers several key concepts towards his line of reasoning. Clark argues that a human being
thinks and reasons based on the biological brain and body dynamically linked with the culture and
technological tools transparently accessible to the human. This form of thinking and reasoning
develops new quot;thinking systems quot; that which over time become second nature thoughts and
reasons and are the basis of even newer quot;thinking systems. quot; It is a repetitive cycle that
continues forever being built upon previous systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example he uses is of a boy trapped in isolation at a computer or video game. Clark asserts that
isolation is a matter of perspective, and that as it appears the boy is alone, he is actually spending
quality time in his chosen community that is brought together only through the power of technology.
He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to
better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such
alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters
and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. Not isolation so much as a wider and less
geocentric kind of community. (Clark, 194) The argument strategy that Clark employs is similar to a
critiquing strategy where he clearly defines his opponent s concern(s), usually by the use of a real
world example. After he has made the reader well aware of his opponent s concern(s), he generally
uses the same example to tactfully pitch his proposal as a solution to eliminate or neutralize the
concern. The proposal is based on one of two sources, his personal beliefs or observations and theories
based on his research and comprehensive knowledge of humans, technology, and society. In some
instances, he will offer multiple proposals to strengthen his defense and allow the reader to understand
there a several possibilities. It appears from the heavy citation of Daniel Dennett s works

Chivalric Code In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Chivalric code was like the federal system in the medieval times. Some of the chivalry codes were
loyalty, courage, and honour, these were some of the ideal qualities expected in a knight. knights had
to respect their religion , respect women and their king. Some of these codes were portrayed in monty

One of the powerful codes of chivalry is loyalty. Lancelot refuses to fight with arthur even when the
king invades his property. In sir gawain and the green knight , sir gawain shows loyalty with the king s
wife. Lady bercilake attempts to sleep with gawain , but he continues to treat the king and her with

Film Analysis Of Dear White People
In this paper, we will discuss whether the subaltern is being heard clearly within film and television.
Although in modern film we have somewhat shifted away from the former stereotypical black
characters, the genuine black life is still concealed due to mainly white producers and directors. Film
has come a long way from the generic social constructs including coons, mammies, and bucks, yet it
has not reached its full potential as far as presenting the average African American s life. The
Caucasian producers decide the nature of black life without experiencing first hand. Essentially, to get
a truly authentic story, it must be expressed by those who have lived through it. Narratives should
nevertheless be told by the person or persons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actual message of wanting to be considered equal with the white man is stifled by his submission
to social constructs. The sanction of this notion allows for the inferiority complex to exist. If the
African American surrenders his drive for equality, white people can continue the narrative that their
sovereignty is for the best. White people will find any excuse to validate colonial racism with ideas
such as God created them superior or that their colonization was solely to stimulate economic growth
within that particular country. Another aspect of Fanon s thoughts is that whites in the middle class
treat blacks with a sense of subsidiarity to promote their own elevation. This statement can be justified
with Fanon s statement, By treating the Jew as an inferior and pernicious being, I affirm at the same
time that I belong to the elite. Although middle class whites are toward the outer rings of the hegemon,
they criticize blacks in order to attempt to propel themselves toward the inner hegemon. Particularly in

Essay about The Legal History of China
The Legal History of China
Before I introduce the legal history of China, I want to talk about several points:
First, introduce the legal history of China should be based on the general history of china:

The Complexity Of Friends In The Tv Show
The tv show Friends is the most funniest and meaningful sitcom of all time. It is about six friends,
three men and three women, who live in the same apartment complex in New York and face life
together as a family. This wonderful sitcom displays the real meaning of friendship and loyalty. They
live their most crazy, funny, and sad moments together. They help guide and support each other
through their tough times. Even though, many people, including myself, may consider the sitcom
Friends as the funniest show ever, many other people disagree; some people think it is boring, not
funny, and very predictable. Each of the characters in the sitcom have a funny personality of their

One of the odd traits about Chandler is that he hates Thanksgiving. When he was nine years old, his
parents announced that they were getting a divorce while eating Thanksgiving dinner and also his
father was having an affair with the houseboy. As a result, he refuses to celebrate Thanksgiving
traditionally and eat Thanksgiving dinner. Another character is Phoebe Buffay. She is played by Lisa
Kudrow. Her personality is very outgoing, impulsive, spontaneous, and friendly. She also has an
unbelievable imagination; she created a doll house out of shoe boxes with a slide, an aroma room,
licorice room, and a bubble machine. Also, she has a weird side which she really shows with her
songs. One of her famous songs is called smelly cat. Furthermore, Rachel Green is another character
in this great sitcom. She is played by Jennifer Aniston. Rachel is caring, loyal, and dependable. One of
the most enjoyable episodes with Rachel is when she sings with Ross, her baby s father, Baby Got

enjoyed in the sitcom. He is introverted, caring, shy, and trustworthy. In one episode, he wanted to

Rapidride Case Study Solution
There are two source of data I found online as follows.
Firstly, the budget to initiate RapidRide service is $215 million (2010 2011 figures). Of this total, $50
million is for corridor and roadway improvements, $28 million for passenger facilities, and $7 million
for the real time information signs. The majority of the budget is the $128 million for new vehicles.
The limited $50 million for corridor and roadway improvements does not include other potential
upgrades to the corridors such as improving pedestrian and bicycle access within the quarter to half
mile service areas around stations and stops. (ULI Seattle 2011)

It shows that RapidRide ridership makes up almost ten percent of the overall system ridership while
being 21 percent cheaper to operate per rider.
For the E and F line starting from 2014, the budget is relatively lower than the beginning. Comparing
the two lines, the extra cost of new buses on the E Line is offset through lower
roadway/communication/TSP costs and passenger facilities. This is likely because SDOT and
Shoreline have already done most of the work to prepare signals for TSP along the corridor by
upgrading signal controllers and cabinets, which is necessary for various component of the RapidRide
ITS system to operate. (Parast 2017) E LINE F LINE
Roadways/Communication/ $5.97M (16%) $9.93M (28%)
Transit Signal Priority (TSP)
Passenger Facilities $5.1M (14%) $7.64M (22%)

New Buses $24.9M (68%) $16.8M (47%)

An Age Of Reform Swept
An age of reform swept through our nation due to the unfairness that was happening in our country.
Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and
humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and
changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and
radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and
changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change
was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society
directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner
440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of
Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less
than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the
temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Horace
Mann who was a lawyer and a Whig politician was the leading education reformer for his era. Mann
hoped that universal public education could restore equality to a fractured society by bringing the
children of all classes together in a common learning experience and equipping the less fortunate to

of the environment both locally and globally became of interest to me. I have been a vegetarian for
about four years and as I have attended college I have learned more about the state of the issue with
food production and sustainability. When presented with the list of books for our independent project
Omnivore s Dilemma immediately jumped at me. When Pollan stated in the introduction, Farming and

analyzes each food chain, learning eating industrial is basically eating corn, and goes into the complex

Analysis Of Charles Darwin s The Origin Of Species...
In 1859, Charles Darwin in his book On the Origin of Species declared that human beings developed
overtime from more simple forms. Evolution suggested that the human species originated from ape
like creatures and gradually changed in structure. Essentially, given the changing patterns of weather
and environment, the species had to acquire new skills and adapt to survive. Those that could not
change were eliminated in a process that is known as Natural Selection (Larson 47). The Evolution
theory, since its inception, has prompted heated debate with supporters forwarding several arguments
to support this conception. Alternatively, those against the theory have enthusiastically contested the
credibility of the evolution theory. They in turn, proclaim that the theory lacks substance and it does
not satisfy the experimental demands of science. It is important to understand the basis of arguments
against evolution. Firstly, it is impossible that the universe could have emerged from nothing.
Evolution determines that man arose from a convergence of matter and that the presence of gravity
attests to the plausibility of the phenomenon. Yet in truth, as has been proven, man is born from man
and additionally, there has never been documented and verified cases of a non living thing such as
matter giving rise to a living thing. This renders the theory of evolution a baseless speculation. The
principle of biogenesis, which is based on empirical evidence, suggests that human

The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And...
Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives
that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with
the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind
their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the
flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth
all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one
book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to
eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood
because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says
Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on
the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all
of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for
destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God
intended. God s thoughts are shown through the following quote The Lord saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his

It s actually a very simple quantitative stock ranking scheme. It uses return on capital and earnings
yield as inputs. Return on capital is the metric that shows whether a business is a good one or not.
Earnings yield is the metric that shows whether a company is cheap or not. Greenblatt suggests using
these measures to identify good but cheap businesses, and buy them. That s the secret behind the
magic formula . In The Little Book That Beats The Market, Greenblatt calculated hypothetical returns
for the 1988 2004 period. The magic formula returned an average 30.8% per year, while the market
return was 12.3% and the S P 500 returned an average 12.4%. So this formula beats the market by
18% per year.
The two things he looks at are earnings yield, which is how cheap the company is. A simple earnings
yield would be the inverse of the P/E ratio or earnings to price. So, in other words, if something
earned $2 and it cost you $10 a share, you d have a 20% earnings yield.
It uses a more sophisticated metric than just earnings, than just price. But the concept is the same. It
uses EBIT earnings before interest and taxes and compares that to enterprise value, which is the
market value of a company s stock plus the long term debt that a company has. That adjusts for
companies that have

The Basic Foundation Of Classical Realism
The basic foundation of classical realism originally laid out in Thucydides s History of the
Peloponnesian War no longer holds true due to a changing international dynamic that gives small
states and non state actors the ability to control their own actions and exert great influence on large
states and control their own actions. The pivotal concept, the strong do what they can and the weak
suffer what they must, doesn t apply in the 21st century international sphere. This paper will explain

The Athenians wipe out much of the Melian population and takes control of the island. While a
necessarily bleak outlook, Thucydides argues that weak states must submit to strong states. This
argument is persuasive in the context of this war and many other conflicts throughout history, but in
the past few decades, a combination of factors has diluted the ability of powerful states to dictate the
terms for weaker states. The globalization of international trade through the WTO and free trade
agreements has largely nullified America s power advantage and disproves the ability of balance of
power politics to explain the international system. America currently has numerous, significant trade
deficits with countries such as Mexico and China. While it can be argued that free trade helps the
American consumer, it is undeniable that these deficits diminish the power that each country holds. In
the case of Mexico, a much weaker power, the United States loses jobs and manufacturing to that
country because of NAFTA and the WTO. In a classical realist world, America would be able to
dictate the terms of trade that would benefit American workers and American economic prosperity.
However, liberal trade institutions put all countries on the same playing field regardless of their
military might. China is

Mof Synthesis Lab
Link to Previous Experiments
Last semester I synthesized a powder, that based on IR, I believe to be the HKUST 1 MOF. I removed
much of the DMSO and have identified key peaks. Despite having cleaned the MOF several times

In order to try to further validate the MOF synthetic method, I attempted a kinetics experiment that
would have tracked the disappearance of the BTC precursor.
Last Synthesis
In the last run where I successfully produced a powder, 0.58 g (2.8 mmol) BTC and 1.2 g (5.1 mmol)
Cu(NO3) · 3 H2O were mixed together at room temperature in 4.5 mL of DMSO. The solids are not
easily dissolved so it takes mild heating and about 30 minutes of stirring. I raised the temperature up
to 100°C and allowed to remain as constant as possible while the solvent evaporated. The entire time
it was impossible to see any precipitate because the solution was green. The only way I was able to
tell the MOF precipitated out was when the stir bar slowed down and the solution got darker. The solid
formed was clumpy. I broke it up with a spatula and filtered it with ethanol several times. ... Show

The First Level Of The Pyramid
The first level of the Pyramid is in regards to the economic responsibilities. The original responsibility
of companies was to provide goods and services, which consumers wanted, and make profit from that
provision. This is the primary motivation for companies to be created. All the other responsibilities are
built on the economic responsibility, as the company could not exist if it was not making profit. Legal
responsibilities are at the second level of the Pyramid in terms of the historical development, but they
are just as important as economic responsibilities. This means that the company has to conform with
the laws and regulations provided by governmental institutions, which means that it has to pursue its
economic plan as long as it operates within the framework of the law. Ethical responsibilities involve
activities and practices, which are either expected or prohibited by key stakeholders, but the company
is not obligated to follow these by law. The company finds itself in a continuous state of development
as it tries to adjust to changing ethics or values in society. These are often proposed by NGOs who are
fighting for the environment, workers rights, consumer movements, etc. These changing norms and
ethics often precede the law and can be difficult to deal with for companies as stakeholders often have
higher standards for companies than required by the current law, therefore making this level in
constant interaction with the legal responsibilities. In order for

Loss In Frankenstein Research Paper
The concept of loss is a natural part of human existence. It plagues humanity with its non prejudiced
hand. Cruel, it can be defined, but necessary nonetheless. How can one deal with such damaging
circumstances? Many seek respite from this inevitable evil through the raw expression of the human
soul onto paper, a novel. These thought invoking expressions have long demonstrated human kind s

around the Ancient Mariner s neck, giving allusion to a cross to be carried, that represents the guilt of
his actions: Instead of the cross, the albatross/ About my neck was hung . (Coleridge) Instead of his
identity being an honorable mariner, sailing the world on his journey s, he is haunted by his one cruel
act and forced to carry it with

  • 2. Paul Renner The type designer I chose is Paul Renner he was an graphic artist, type designer, author, and teacher from Germany in the late 1800 s early 1900 s. As he started his artistic road he began in the study of architecture and painting in Berlin, which led him to work as a painter. Then he cofounded a private school of illustration in Munich. He was also the designer behind the typefaces Futura, Plak, Futura Black, Futura Schlagzeile, Ballade, Renner Antiqua, and Steile Futura. These typefaces are still being used today in big movie titles. The typeface Futura is the typeface known as a landmark for modern graphic design. Renner can be seen as a bridge between the traditional 19th century and the modern 20th century design (Paul Renner). Futura ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wanted to shape the new life surrounded by aesthetics and intellectual skills through material and spiritual forms. He applied art through typefaces or books trying to give a different perspective in life. He saw it as looking outward into the world rather than looking into the distance. It seems as if he was trying to get people s mentality out of society s point of view and see it from their own perspective. These are some of the movies that the Futura typeface is actually being used and they are very recent films. It is impressive how a typeface that was done over 100 years ago still has such an effect on society today. Not only are these typefaces used in the movie posters, but also inside the movie itself. This is one of Renner s works of art he had made; it is a poster for an exhibition of work from the Bavarian Trade. Renner made his first drawing of Futura in 1924 and it wasn t until three years later that it was available. He had much competition from other artist as well trying to make modern typefaces. Marijuana User Summary In relation to the differences in experimental, recreational, and being addicted to an illicit drug, I would have to agree with Howard Beckers Becoming a Marijuana User, which he wrote in 1953. As for the action of those in the category of experimental drug users, I believe that those are the ones who have been aroused by some external factors, such as friends and/or media influences, as to the high feelings that are associated with the effects of drugs, for the first time. Becker put it in a better sensible notion when his study revealed: the process of learning to use and learning to associate its effects with a sense of pleasure (Humphrey Schmalleger, 2012). With recreational drug usage, those are the people who have come to know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone chooses a different way to deal with these event and emotions. Some may not feel comfortable expressing themselves and keep to themselves, while others may be very outspoken. For artist they portray this emotion in their works. Among artists they also each have their own way of expressing themselves. Each artist has their own preference and paint in different styles. Every piece of art is different in its own way. No two artists will create the exact same piece of art. The bright colors could represent the great outcome if the republicans were to win. The wine in the back also looks to me like a symbol of victory. Its hidden in the back because no one is sure how the war will turn out. The darker colors could be the outcome if Franco and the nationalist were to win. The bread make me think of all the poor people effected by the war and thats most likely all they were able to afford to eat. The fruit with the fork in it is a more complex. Spain has some regions that are completely dependent on agriculture. With a war taking place, farms and lively hoods would be destroyed. I believe the fruit symbolizes all the agriculture that was lost during the war. The shoe was the most symbolic to me because I believe it can represent various things. It can represent the soldiers who fought for what they believed in. It could also be all the families and civilians that were forced to move out of Spain because of the war. Lastly the Spanish civil war was known as a battleground for ideologies of people from all over the world. Enemy Within, Enemy Without By Anna Magnani Enemy Within, Enemy Without Anna Magnani stars as a resourceful working class Roman mother trying to overcome her unfortunate past to give a better life to her children, even as outside threats threaten everything she has worked so hard to build. This vague framework could easily describe both Roberto Rossellini s neorealist war drama Rome, Open City and Pier Paolo Pasolini s irreverent rebuke Mamma Roma. Rome, Open City concerns itself with the devastation the Italian people faced at the hands of their German occupiers and their collaborators, the titular city and its inhabitants crumbling away in both body and spirit over the course of a cruel winter. Much like the characters themselves, the film is quite admirable despite being unrefined and without the proper resources to express itself. By the time Pier Paolo Pasolini wrote the script for Mamma Roma in 1962, Rome had undergone quite the dramatic makeover. • 6. Corporate Finance Analyst Of The Investment Bank Introduction: The corporate finance analyst of the investment bank is required to compute the fair price of the bond and to estimate the number of bond issuing. The computation is based on the yield to maturity, which measures the return that an investor would expect to receive by holding a bond until maturity. The Yield Curve, also known as term structure of interest rate, is a commonly used financial tool that tracks the relation between the yields and the time to maturity of a bond. Estimating the yield on a non currently traded bond and identifying mispriced bonds are the purposes of using the yield curve. It could, furthermore, be used to forecast future performance of the yield on a bond. (Fig. 1) Knowing that, the A rated bond, which was required to issue for the purpose of raising five million dollars debt, had a coupon rate of 5.5%, a maturity of 15 years and one $1000 face value . Results: Considering the third order polynomial method with using the OLS regression, gave the values of estimated parameters. (Table 1) Thus, the function of fitted yield curve, which estimated the relationship between the yields and the time to maturity, could be determined. ( Fig. 2) Given that the time to maturity of required issuing bond was 15 years, which could therefore gave the yield of 5.005% according to the fitted yield curve function. Consequently, this would give the bond price of $1051.748 and the number of bond that investment bank should issue to raise debt was 4754. For a more precise estimation, the sub data set of the A rated bonds that had the coupon rate ranging from 5% to 6% could be picked out and calculated with the same procedure applied as before. This would then gave the the yield to maturity of 4.957%, bond price of 1056.979 and the number of issuing bond of 4730. (Table 2) Limitation: The third order polynomial fitted yield curve approach gives the estimated relationship between yields and maturities, however, the fitted trend is not capable enough to explain the variation in bond yields perfectly. Compared to the all the other places where we stayed on the trip, the hotel where we stayed just outside of St. Andrews could at best be described as so so. It was sort of like an older motel in the USA, but it was clean and reasonably comfortable and the dinner that night and breakfast the next morning were good. Well, I should preface the latter comment and say I tried the Scottish traditional breakfast of haggis , and I could not swallow the first bite. No one told me it was made primarily with lamb, and I will not eat lamb under any circumstances. After breakfast, we headed out to St. Andrews and the Royal and Ancient Club the Mecca of golf. When we arrived at the clubhouse, we found out they were having a board meeting that day and we would not be able to play on the Old course, but we could go to the New course and not have any problem getting on at that course. The first thing we had to do was rent some clubs because neither brought clubs on the trip. So, we went to a small shop not far from the course and rented some clubs. Playing golf in Scotland is a little different from playing golf in America. The noticeable differences are the height of the rough and the depth of the sand bunkers. • 14. Myth Of The Huichol Indians Introduction The Huichol Indians are an indigenous group that lives in the Sierra Madre Mountains of northwestern Mexico (Woolcott). The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr. Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals, plants, rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better understand the Huichol Indians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism, rituals, religious specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives. Myth One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2). The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary opposition that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth. According to Eidt, in the Huichol origin myth the first human, named Watacame, and his black female dog, Tziku Mayuri, had to withstand five days of monsoons, wind, waves, flooding and storming (Eidt). Americans, both wealthy and poor, try their absolute best to maintain a decent lifestyle for their children so they may have more open opportunities, especially during these difficult hardships. Many middle class Americans are purchasing homes that they may not be able to afford. Why? Because they want to make sure their children are living in a good neighborhood with a good school to receive an education. This shows how the wealthy and poor have different standards of living in terms of money management. This inequality connects back to predatory lending. People who purchase homes over their budgets will have more income difficulties and financial problems. This is likely to lead to subprime mortgages which, in an unfortunate turn, adds to the distress of the economy. Paul Krugman, an economy professor at Princeton and op ed writer for the New York Times, states in his essay, The lack of clear economic progress for lower and middle income families is in itself an important reason to seek a more equal distribution of income. The inequality within our present society has caused a ridiculous amount of misfortune and concern. When he was eleven years old, Giovanni died and Raphael took up his father s jobs of painting and managing the workshop. When he was only 17, Pietro Vannunci, better known as Perugino, offered him a job as apprentice. Raphael agreed and was excited to gain both knowledge and a hand on experience. In the four years that the apprenticeship lasted, Raphael painted many religious works including: the Mond Crucifixion (c. 1502), The Three Graces (c. 1503), The Knight s Dream (1504), and the Marriage of the Virgin (finished in 1504). Clark argues that a human being thinks and reasons based on the biological brain and body dynamically linked with the culture and technological tools transparently accessible to the human. He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. Not isolation so much as a wider and less geocentric kind of community. After he has made the reader well aware of his opponent s concern(s), he generally uses the same example to tactfully pitch his proposal as a solution to eliminate or neutralize the concern. • 27. Rapidride Case Study Solution There are two source of data I found online as follows. Firstly, the budget to initiate RapidRide service is $215 million (2010 2011 figures). Of this total, $50 million is for corridor and roadway improvements, $28 million for passenger facilities, and $7 million for the real time information signs. The majority of the budget is the $128 million for new vehicles. The limited $50 million for corridor and roadway improvements does not include other potential upgrades to the corridors such as improving pedestrian and bicycle access within the quarter to half mile service areas around stations and stops. (ULI Seattle 2011) Investment types $(million) corridor and roadway improvements 50 passenger facilities 28 real time information signs 7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It shows that RapidRide ridership makes up almost ten percent of the overall system ridership while being 21 percent cheaper to operate per rider. For the E and F line starting from 2014, the budget is relatively lower than the beginning. Comparing the two lines, the extra cost of new buses on the E Line is offset through lower roadway/communication/TSP costs and passenger facilities. This is likely because SDOT and Shoreline have already done most of the work to prepare signals for TSP along the corridor by upgrading signal controllers and cabinets, which is necessary for various component of the RapidRide ITS system to operate. (Parast 2017) E LINE F LINE Roadways/Communication/ $5.97M (16%) $9.93M (28%) Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Passenger Facilities $5.1M (14%) $7.64M (22%) (Shelters, lighting, etc.) Real Time Information Signs $790,000 (2%) $800,000 (2%) New Buses $24.9M (68%) $16.8M (47%) Total $36.74 $35.12M However, the investment in improvement is a huge amount. For example, King County Metro RapidRide C and D and Madison Street Capital Improvements. This project would design and implement transit priority improvements along King County Metro s RapidRide C and D lines that provide service to Ballard and West Seattle as an early deliverable to provide improved speed and reliability, in advance of light rail starting operations to these areas. The planet had recently been bombarded by the Grandmaster s forces, and the kiffar had decided it would be a good place to visit due to his own nature. As a scar in the force Tisto had to move around every so often so he wouldn t lead Inquisitors to the Knights of Allusis and Clan Odan Urr. He moved through the arena, his leather jacket pushed around by the wind. *Clack* Tisto turned around quickly, grabbing his saber off his belt. Tisto eyed the man suspiciously, not ever having seen him before. The miraluka Talis looked back at Tisto unsure what to make of him. • 29. An Age Of Reform Swept An age of reform swept through our nation due to the unfairness that was happening in our country. Many people fought for change for themselves and for others that involved problems like alcohol and humane treatment for the insane. The radicals did their best for what they thought was right and changed our country for the better. There were costs and benefits to many movements, groups, and radical individuals who sought change between 1840 and 1877. They created conflict, chaos, and changes that played a part in making many reforms for their era. One such group that created a change was the American Temperance Society which was found in 1826. The American Temperance Society directed its efforts to redeeming not only habitual drunkards but also the occasional drinker (Foner 440). By the 1830s they believed that they had changed the minds of hundreds of thousands of Americans to give up on alcohol. By 1840, the consumption of alcohol per person had fallen to less than half the level of a decade earlier (Foner 440). The benefit of this change came with a cost, the temperance crusade and other reform movements aroused considerable hostility (Foner 441). Horace Mann who was a lawyer and a Whig politician was the leading education reformer for his era. Mann hoped that universal public education could restore equality to a fractured society by bringing the children of all classes together in a common learning experience and equipping the less fortunate to advance in the social ... Michael Pollan the author of Omnivore s Dilemma discusses and asks, what should we have for dinner? He attempts to answer one of the pressing questions of sustainability in today s society, to save money or to save the planet, and how? Pollan talks about how humans are omnivores and we have the choice to eat whatever we want, no matter the health and sustainability implications of our decisions. • 31. Analysis Of Charles Darwin s The Origin Of Species... In 1859, Charles Darwin in his book On the Origin of Species declared that human beings developed overtime from more simple forms. Evolution suggested that the human species originated from ape like creatures and gradually changed in structure. Essentially, given the changing patterns of weather and environment, the species had to acquire new skills and adapt to survive. Those that could not change were eliminated in a process that is known as Natural Selection (Larson 47). The Evolution theory, since its inception, has prompted heated debate with supporters forwarding several arguments to support this conception. Alternatively, those against the theory have enthusiastically contested the credibility of the evolution theory. They in turn, proclaim that the theory lacks substance and it does not satisfy the experimental demands of science. It is important to understand the basis of arguments against evolution. Firstly, it is impossible that the universe could have emerged from nothing. Evolution determines that man arose from a convergence of matter and that the presence of gravity attests to the plausibility of the phenomenon. Yet in truth, as has been proven, man is born from man and additionally, there has never been documented and verified cases of a non living thing such as matter giving rise to a living thing. This renders the theory of evolution a baseless speculation. The principle of biogenesis, which is based on empirical evidence, suggests that human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Similarities Of The Flood Characters Of Gilgamesh And... Though Gilgamesh and Genesis are completely different stories, they both contain flood narratives that have similarities and differences within each. The three comparable points in these texts deal with the gods and heroes of the stories. First the gods in these narratives all have a specific reason behind their decision to wipe out mankind. Second the unique characteristics of the heroes or survivors of the flood are shown throughout the events of the texts. Finally the gods who bring these floods upon earth all reveal their qualities through their actions against humanity. These three topics relate from one book to another in many ways. Before each of the floods there are reasons that each god decides to eliminate the people on earth. In Gilgamesh the god Enlil chooses to destroy humanity with a flood because it is the best way to get rid of the individuals who have sinned. After the flood the god Ea says Let him who has performed an evil act be punished for that act. Let not the flood be brought down on the heads of all for what one man has done... (Ferry 74). This statement shows how Enlil punished all of mankind when most of them weren t to blame. On the contrary, in Genesis Gods motive for destroying humanity with a flood is that the world was turning evil and cruel, which was not what God intended. God s thoughts are shown through the following quote The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his ... It s actually a very simple quantitative stock ranking scheme. It uses return on capital and earnings yield as inputs. Return on capital is the metric that shows whether a business is a good one or not. Earnings yield is the metric that shows whether a company is cheap or not. Greenblatt suggests using these measures to identify good but cheap businesses, and buy them. That s the secret behind the magic formula . In The Little Book That Beats The Market, Greenblatt calculated hypothetical returns for the 1988 2004 period. The magic formula returned an average 30.8% per year, while the market return was 12.3% and the S P 500 returned an average 12.4%. So this formula beats the market by 18% per year. The two things he looks at are earnings yield, which is how cheap the company is. A simple earnings yield would be the inverse of the P/E ratio or earnings to price. So, in other words, if something earned $2 and it cost you $10 a share, you d have a 20% earnings yield. It uses a more sophisticated metric than just earnings, than just price. But the concept is the same. It uses EBIT earnings before interest and taxes and compares that to enterprise value, which is the market value of a company s stock plus the long term debt that a company has. That adjusts for companies that have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pivotal concept, the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must, doesn t apply in the 21st century international sphere. The Athenians wipe out much of the Melian population and takes control of the island. While a necessarily bleak outlook, Thucydides argues that weak states must submit to strong states. This argument is persuasive in the context of this war and many other conflicts throughout history, but in the past few decades, a combination of factors has diluted the ability of powerful states to dictate the terms for weaker states. The globalization of international trade through the WTO and free trade agreements has largely nullified America s power advantage and disproves the ability of balance of power politics to explain the international system. America currently has numerous, significant trade deficits with countries such as Mexico and China. While it can be argued that free trade helps the American consumer, it is undeniable that these deficits diminish the power that each country holds. In the case of Mexico, a much weaker power, the United States loses jobs and manufacturing to that country because of NAFTA and the WTO. In a classical realist world, America would be able to dictate the terms of trade that would benefit American workers and American economic prosperity. The original responsibility of companies was to provide goods and services, which consumers wanted, and make profit from that provision. This is the primary motivation for companies to be created. All the other responsibilities are built on the economic responsibility, as the company could not exist if it was not making profit. Legal responsibilities are at the second level of the Pyramid in terms of the historical development, but they are just as important as economic responsibilities. This means that the company has to conform with the laws and regulations provided by governmental institutions, which means that it has to pursue its economic plan as long as it operates within the framework of the law. Ethical responsibilities involve activities and practices, which are either expected or prohibited by key stakeholders, but the company is not obligated to follow these by law. The company finds itself in a continuous state of development as it tries to adjust to changing ethics or values in society. These are often proposed by NGOs who are fighting for the environment, workers rights, consumer movements, etc. These changing norms and ethics often precede the law and can be difficult to deal with for companies as stakeholders often have higher standards for companies than required by the current law, therefore making this level in constant interaction with the legal responsibilities.
