Literary Analysis Lesson 1
Introduction:
This unit is designed for a twelfth grade honors British literature class. These students are extremely
gifted and will be taking the AP exam for college credit towards the end of the school year. The
students will be learning about the dynamic and static characters in the book. They will be identifying
how the dynamic character changes throughout the story and how the static characters stay the same.
This is important because these students are undergoing major changes in their lives at this point; they
will be attending college next year and taking a big leap into the somewhat unknown. I want the
students to be able to see the difference between change and what is stagnant. The students will also
be able to chart the progression, or lack thereof in the main characters. The students have prior
knowledge of this short story and have had lessons that go over dynamic and static character traits. I
do have two ESL students in my classroom that I will be tinkering parts of the activities to

Analysis Of Black Mirror By Charlie Brooker Essay
Black Mirror is a British TV show on Netflix created by Charlie Brooker which represent the modern
society with technologies and the side effects in positive and negative ways. Since memory is
malleable and it interprets our memories based on our feeling in the present, technology in Black
Mirror helps to navigate the imperfection of communication, relationship and our memory in the
society. The technology such as the Grain in The Entire History of You episode and the Z eye in White
Christmas episode have interfered human being s life in some aspects. Black Mirror has showed us the
consequences of using technology in our lives. As long humans exist in these lives, consequences will
never go anywhere. It still exists and people cannot deny that because it is the cost of being human,
indeed they cannot separate good and bad. When human have AI implanted in their bodies, their lives
are almost perfect and growth toward fulfillment because they can do everything they want. In Netflix
series Black Mirror The Entire History of You (Season 1, episode 3) people have Grain which is
implanted behind their ear and the function for that is to record everything they do, see, and hear
based on their perspectives; and also allow them to play, show or redo it whenever they want. Liam
and Fiona are two of the people who have grain implanted behind their ears. Liam and Fiona are
couple who have been married for years. Liam is a curious, obsessive unemployed guy who is looking

The French Revolution Of 1848 Research Paper
When viewing significant landmarks in history often one looks at extravagant architectural marvels
where important events took place looking past the streets where history is written in blood. The June
Days of the French Revolution of 1848 tells such a history where lawlessness, rebellion, and economic
depression culminated in an uprising in Paris that divided the city between insurgents and loyalists.
Thus the streets were a key battleground in the June Days and French Revolution of 1848 dictating the
conflict s outcome and serving a variety of interests. Their significance to the French Revolution of
1848 is further evident in their systematic eradication under Louis Napoleon Bonaparte and Georges
Eugène Haussmann. The roots of the June ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The election of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte as president ended the French Revolution of 1848 and
signified a new direction for France. However, Napoleon eager not to forgot the lessons of June Days
commissioned a massive renovation campaign of Paris headed by Georges Eugène Haussmann.
Haussmann expanded the streets and created boulevards as to arguably make the streets much more
difficult to barricade. Many of the small narrow streets and residential buildings of the inner city as a
result were destroyed to make way for Haussmann s wide boulevards. Thousands of people were
forced to relocate to the outer edges of the city. This is important because it ensured that a revolt like
the June Days would be much more difficult in the future if possible at all. Napoleon s efforts to
destroy the inner city neighborhoods and streets further legitimizes their significance in the French

James Weldon Johnson s Poetry
One poet, who s work has been relevant in the black community since the beginning of the twentieth
century, is that of James Weldon Johnson. Spanning the Reconstruction period and the New Negro
(Harlem) Renaissance, Johnson s work change as the time did. Yet, this does not mean that all the
poems in each era were significantly alike. The Gift to Sing and Prayer at Sunrise are both poems the
Johnson published towards the end of the reconstruction period. These poems are related in their
modes and devices used, but have different structures. Moreover both poems use the same Black Arts
patterns, but have differing messages intended for two separate groups of people . Despite the
differences of these poems, they are both great examples of the ... Show more content on

Because both poems were written doing the Reconstruction, they were both forms of encouragement.
Yet, The Gift to Sing is encouraging the audience to look inwards to find their source of hope and
courage. Phrases such as in my throat, and in my heart reveal this. Prayer at Sunshine, on the other
hand, makes pleads to the great Maker, and Great Father of the sun. This poem is instructing the
audience to turn to God, or a god, because that is who will give provided joy and strength to make it
through each day. Through these different messages, people would be able to find the exact type of
encouragement that they needed. The works of James Weldon Johnson are ones that are still as
important to day, just as they were in 1917. The Gift to Sing and Prayer at Sunrise, are just two of
Johnson s pieces that live on because of their messages of inspiration. Coupled with their dual use of
the same patterns, devices, and related modes, these poems may not seem to be that different. Yet,

Clean Edge Analysis Essay
Position Statement:
Paramount Health and Beauty wants to launch a new razor into the market currently referred to as
Clean Edge. The project team recommends that the company should position the product as a distinct
mainstream product, dubbing it Clean Edge by Paramount in order to produce growth in sales from
new product innovation. The importance of placing the product in a mainstream position is to
successfully launch an innovative product creating more market share for Paramount and for Clean
Edge to become the most sought out razor in the industry. Failing to take this route and deciding to
position the product in a niche would only give the new product a limited amount of consumers,
preventing Clean Edge from reaching its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clean Edge by Paramount gives customers a clear perception of the advantages of the product without
being concerned about other product categories.
Critique of Rejected Options
There are several reasons why the project team should reject the first option in positioning Clean Edge
in a niche. The first reason concerns the pricing strategy. Placing the product in a niche position would
make the razor more expensive in the retail sense. Catering to the more involved groomers places the
product at a suggested retail price at $12.99. Placing the product at a higher price in the niche position
could only lead Clean Edge Razor to a limited market. Rosenberg suggested placing the product in the
niche position for a year or two; however, this could lead to prevention in attracting a wider customer
base for the product during that time frame.
Another reason Paramount should not place in the niche position is their significantly low marketing
budget compared to their competitors. In just media advertising alone, Radiance spent $16 million on
Naiv. For Clean Edge, the cost for advertising for the niche position would only be $7 million.
Because Radiance is spending more than twice as much on their advertising compared to what
Paramount would spend in the niche position, Radiance would gain an advantage in covering more
ground to promote its product.
As far as product naming is concerned, Paramount

John Wilkes Booth, The Killer And His Plans Essay
The book essentially goes over Lincoln s killer and his plans and what his thoughts were before,
during and after the shooting of President Lincoln. It is a book that mainly focuses on John Wilkes
Booth , the killer, and his plans and how it panned out. John Wilkes Booth was an actor and lived a
wealthy life, he was someone who was considered very handsome by many and someone with fine
clothes. His tactics per se were not well planned out. John Wilkes Booth had tried to kidnap President
Lincoln before, but he failed to do so he planned on bringing Lincoln to the South and demanding
peace, Boothe had recently heard about the appearance the Lincolns would be given at the Ford s
theatre, he knew the Lincoln s would have a box inside the theatre where he would sit . Although he
committed the act of assassinating President Lincoln he did not plan on how he was going to get
through to him,the obstacles he would have to overcome, he just knew he would do whatever he
needed to do to get the task done. Booth was someone who did not like Lincoln s plans for America,
especially the south. He yelled The South is avenged after killing the president of the United States.
Not only were his thoughts on ending the President but also the Vice President and the Secretary of
State because of what they stood for.

New Era Greed Of The Grocery Store Essay
New Era Greed
I. Introduction
A. The grocery store seems like an everyday simplistic duty that everyone in American society has to
do to feed their family. Yet there is a lot of trust that goes on through the process. Consumers are made
unaware of where the products come from and not only that trust is slowly diminishing with online
grocery shopping.
B. A once personal task is becoming impersonal as we progress. Globalization and the technological
advancements have made it it difficult for the consumer to actually know what they are getting and
changing the idea of the grocery store all together.
C. Consumer food demands has made a corner mom and pop grocer to a fast, mass, and globally
producing supermarket and there is a price to pay.
II. Background
A. Chain grocery stores started off with the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. Before then
grocers were a small store where the store owner or associate will have to retrieve the item in order for
you to buy it.
1. Grocers often sold dry items such as spice, pepper, coffee, tea, sugar sometimes vegetables and
often times canned goods. If a customer wanted to buy poultry or some baked goods they often had to
take a second trip to the local butcher and baker.
B. A P was new grocer that only sold items that they new would sell fast. A P was designed to present
itself as the cheaper way to grocery shop making it more appealing.
1. The introduction of A P and the competition it had with local mom and pop shops.

Examples Of Affective Events Theory
Affective Events Theory is recognising different factors that cause employees emotional reactions on
their work and how the emotional reactions influence the employees job performance (Greenberg,
2011). This theory helps employers to understand employees moods and emotions at workplace.
Affective Events Theory examines the impacts of work related incidents on emotional reactions and
the following consequences for attitudes and behaviour (Russell Bennett, Hartel Beatson, n.d.).
Ashkanasy (2002) stated that Affective Events Theory is the collection of a sequence of positive or
negative affective events that turns to positive or negative affective states. If there is a negative
affective event and turn to negative affective states, it will threaten attitudinal states and behavioural
reactions of employees (Ashkanasy, 2002). This theory also clarifies as an approach of
counterbalancing judgment based theories of work attitudes and behaviours (Weiss Cropanzano,
1996).
The main idea of Affective Events Theory is the affective experience such as moods and emotions as
crucial link in shaping attitudes and behaviours (Rosen, Harris Kacmar, 2009). Based on Greenberg
(2011), positive mood leads to positive memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

El personal de las operaciones de mantenimiento de la paz es proveniente del ejercito propio de cada

The Sports Energy Drink Industry
This case study written by Krupa Kansaru on the history of Red Bull and their success in making the
sports energy drink market what it is today has shown the key strengths of the company. The obvious
strength that the Red Bull company has a unique and early start in the sports energy drink industry.
CEO Dietrich Mateschitizin was quoted in the case study, he says that if we don t create the market, it
doesn t exists, this quote parallels with Red Bull as a whole. Starting in the 1980s Red Bull used
abstract marketing strategies involving differentiation, word of mouth , and buzz marketing to
popularize the product instead of using a traditional approach by launching their product and waiting
to integrate it into mainstream media. Red Bull thrusted itself into communicating with its customers
and fan base by launching events, working closely with event coordinators, and strategic product
placement. Red Bull also holds much strength by associating the product and brand with athletics and
extreme sports. Targeting a younger generation and portraying the idea of a fuller and freer life has
proven to truly engage the popular culture and counter culture alike. It is stated in the case study that
Red Bull holds a seventy percent market share in over one hundred countries statistics like that show
the company s true strength especially compared to competitors like Monster and Rockstar.

According to the study, by the Treatment Advocacy Center, psychiatric beds are now available at a
level equivalent to that of 1850 (Torrey et al., 2012), the point in history at which the treatment of the
mentally ill started to change with a shift to state run facilities.
One of the major consequences of this crisis is seen in jails and prisons around the nation that are
increasingly populated by individuals with untreated mental illness, with some facilities reporting that
one third or more of their inmates are severely mentally ill. (Torrey et al., 2012. p. 6). One measure of
the social and economic costs of this systemic failure is the remarkably high rate of recidivism and the
associated social fallout. In California close to 80% of all persons released from prison will return to a
state of incarceration within 1 3 years of release. An overwhelming number of these returning inmates
are doing so as a function of their failure to meet or carry out terms of release, not for the commission
of new crimes (Maxwell Royo, 2005). Economically speaking, a person incarcerated in a State Prison
in California costs the state on average $49,000 a year to house, feed and protect. Amplify that by the
latest number of prisoners in state facilities, approximately 119,000 and we arrive at the staggering
figure of $5,831,000,000, wasted funds that could have been spent in the community. Considering that

Dbq Boston Tea Party
On December 16, 1773, American colonists disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, and threw
chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The Boston Tea Party was an act of protest against Parliament s
Tea Act of 1773, that was passed in order to save the British East India Company from bankruptcy.
After the Boston Tea Party, Britain passed a series of laws that became known as the Intolerable or
Coercive Acts, so that they could punish the Massachusetts colonists for their rebellious behavior.
These series of acts consisted of the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration

Religion Position Paper
There are several reasons why I have the religious affiliation that I do. My membership, unlike that of
so many, has very little to do with the choices my friends and family have made. My decision was
based on reason and personal experiences. While some may say that these things are both easily
influenced by parents and peers, in my case I have parents of different faith and therefore have less
direct influence from them. When I was very young I was made aware of the need to research religion.
The problem with this is that as a child my comprehension and knowledge were both very limited.
Still I knew that I needed to figure out what was right for me. The easiest place to start for me was the
Bible, since such a large number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is First James chapter three verses eighteen and nineteen. These verses cover
some very deep doctrine which most people choose to discard, but I believe that if it s in the Bible it s
here for a reason. These verses read, For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust,
that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which
also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; In this verse they answer a very important
question, what happens to those who never have a chance to know and accept God into their lives. In
this verse it explains to us that after death Christ went a preached to others which were dead. This
gives them the opportunity to know of Him, and to either accepted or reject Him just as we have
chosen. Now if we take this information and add it to another often discarded scripture we find
something even more interesting. First Corinthians chapter fifteen verse twenty nine reads, Else what
shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for
the dead? Here we learn that the Corinthians were doing some sort of baptisms for the dead. What this
means is that those who learn of God after death not only have the opportunity to learn of him, but
also to have the sacred ordinances which are necessary for salvation preformed on their behalf. Now
away from all of the factual evidence I would have

Prayer For Booby Movie By Russell Mulcahy
Prayers for Booby movie was directed by Russell Mulcahy, and is based on the book written by Leroy
F. Aarons. The book was inspired by a true story. Aarons was also the founder of the National Lesbian
and Gay Journalists Association. The movie portraits the story of Bobby Griffith a young boy who is
suffering of depression, as he is not able to cope with his feeling of being homosexual and the burden
that is imposed by his family and society. His mother, Mary simultaneously struggles to understand
what is happening to his son. Mary a Christian educated woman, daughter of a prejudiced mother
towards homosexuality. As well as living in a community that religiously and socially was intolerant
towards homosexuality. Therefore, she does not accept his son sexual orientation and attempts to cure
him instead. Bobby not capable of coping with everything that is happening after accepting he is gay
and confessing it to his mother. Therefore, he feels guilty and out of context following a deep
depression does not find other exit than suicidal. Bobby s death triggers a series of events and changes
in his mother s life that will transform her way of thinking completely. We perceive in this movie, first
the feeling of the individual and the struggle to cope with the environment. The intolerance and the
prejudices imposed by society and religion. And finally, how a broken hearted mother, through her

The Human Body System Is Not Immune For Pathological...
Our body system is not immune to pathological deficiencies. There exist numerous identified
pathologies which compromise the regular functioning of a heart, but all heart related pathologies are
narrowed to a single condition known as Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). This is the term formally
used in reference to the different identified clinical entities threatening the cardiovascular system. ACS
is the result of the progressive or complete sudden blocking of the arteries or veins; this prevents an
appropriate blood flow through the circulatory system, and as a consequence, the body is unable to
receive enough oxygen and nutrients to meet its daily necessities.
This makes ACS a life threatening form of coronary heart disease (CHD) that ... Show more content

In a hospital setting, anticoagulants and antiplatelets are widely prescribed by physicians because of
their greater benefits in changing the physiological homeostasis of the cardiovascular system.
Anticoagulants and antiplatelets play a fundamental role in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as
they are very effective at counteracting the different symptoms cardiovascular diseases present.
Today, suggested treatments depend on patients health and type of ACS condition. Such treatments
range from invasive surgery for high risk patients to prescribed medications for low risk patients. The
medications vary in function and purpose. For example, thrombosis is the fast forming of an abnormal
blood clot in an artery or vein. Therefore, it must be treated with a fast acting anticoagulant which
could be Heparin or Fondaparinux (Hyers, 2005). Atrial fibrillation is an abnormal heartbeat and is
frequently treated with another type of anticoagulant, Warfarin. Finally, unstable angina is a chest
discomfort caused by the lack of blood flow through the heart and in most cases is treated with the
most common antiplatelet medication, Aspirin.

Bill Nichols and the Discourse of Sobriety
Do mockumentary films retain any trace of the discourse of sobriety ? Throughout film history,
documentary and fiction films have denoted the polar opposites of film form with each representing
two distinct and separate traditions, the cinema of reality and the cinema of fiction (Doherty 16).
However what was once a clear distinction has become blurred as the increasing popularity of
mockumentary continues to weaken the assumed boundaries between fact and fiction (Sicinski). Prior
to this blurring of the lines the documentary genre enjoyed a privileged position amongst screen forms
due its the truth claim (Glick). Reflecting Bill Nichols observation that documentary employs the

Despite multiple documentary conventions being incorporated throughout the film, 24 hour Party
People retains little trace of sobriety as Winterbottom s use of interviews, direct address, archival

than depicting the world as it is. Although real archival footage of Joy Division performing at Wilson s
club, as well as actual footage of Wilson s television show Granada Tonight is used throughout the
film, Winterbottom ensures that such footage is subtly interwoven within sequences of fictional events
thus eliminating any trace of sobriety that the use of real footage may have allowed for. Furthermore it
can be argued that 24 hour Party People retains little evidence of Bill Nichols observation that
documentary employs the discourse of sobriety , as a number of incidents are exaggerated throughout
the film. For example, following a scene in which Wilson s wife is shown getting close with musician

Hijab is a piece of material that mostly Muslim women wear on their heads to hide their hair and
beauty from the public. the wearing of head scarf varies from person to person, it can be as extreme as
hide all of the hair, face, eyes forehead, ears, neck and upper part of the breasts, or as casual as just
cover the back of the head or as people say in Kurdistan they are just hiding their hair clip . Within the
Muslim society there are two sides on the wearing of Hijab. The first side is the pro Hijab side; this
side is divided into two other parts, the women who wear it to practice their religion and the women
who are forced to wear the Hijab. The second side is Muslim women that are against the wearing of
Hijab and see it as an act of domination of men and subordination of women. In my belief Hijab
should only be worn if it is for the right reasons as such, for the respect of religion and go. ... Show

Their argument for wearing the Hijab is that Allah has required Muslim women to wear the Hijab and
conceal their beauty. Another argument that they usually give is that they don t want society to
concentrate on their beauty they want society to concentrate on their personality and their intelligence.
The second view, says that women should wear the Hijab because it protects them from sexual
harassment from men, majority of the women that wear the Hijab for this particular reason only are
usually forced by their families and male figures to wear the Hijab. The men believe that their women
would have a higher social prestige and will be respected by other men in

America s Recent Diplomatic Initiatives
AMERICA S RECENT DIPLOMATIC INITIATIVES
The United States Invasion of Panama, code named Operation Just Cause, happened between mid
December 1989 and late January 1990 (diplomatic initiatives 2016). It occurred during the U.S.
President George Bush s term, and ten years after the Torrijos Carter Treaties were ratified. The
treaties transferred the control of the Panama Canal from the United States over to Panama by January
1, 2000 (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). During the invasion, the Panamanian leader, and dictator
Manuel Noriega was deposed, president elect Guillermo Endara was sworn into office, and the
Panamanian Defense Force was dissolved (invasion of Panama. 2016, May 27).

Iraq invaded Kuwait, which is Iraq s smaller neighbor to the south (Gulf War. 2016, May 31). Iraq
claimed the country as an Iraqi territory. The U.S. intervened by invading and pushing back the Iraqis.
Later politicians would say that President Bush failed to stop Saddam Hussein, instead leaving him in
power (Gulf War. 2016, May 31). After the U.S. ended its defense of Kuwait, thousands of Kurdish
supporters who lived in Iraq s northern border regions continued to be killed by Saddam Hussein, an
estimated 100,000 (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). In the U.S., Gulf War Syndrome was seen in veterans
of the war, thought to be chemical weapons related. The American intervention in Somalia, took place
in 1993 1994 while Bill Clinton was the president of the United States (diplomatic initiatives. 2016).
The intervention in Somalia was nicknamed Operation Restore Hope, where U.S. troops and United
Nations forces, went to Somalia to restore the order (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). On October 3,
1993, 18 U.S. soldiers were killed and 78 wounded while attacking Somali fighters (Army in Somalia,
1992 1994. 2001). Up to 1,000 Somali fighters and civilians were killed.
There was a large gap in casualties between the two sides. Americans were very shocked by the Oct. 3
incident, they did not understand the source of Somalia anger. They saw their mission as an effort to
help the Somalis (Army in Somalia, 1992 1994. 2001). An article

Revitalizing dell
Situation Statement Dell Computer Corporation was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell. From the early
1990s until the mid 2000s, Dell was ranked as a PC market leader relying on their distinctive
marketing pattern Direct Model which undertook direct communication with customers and provided
customized products. Recently, the PC industry is facing inconceivable worldwide competition, and
Dell is gradually losing their competitive advantages by using its direct model in critical business
segments. The company is facing shrinkage of growth, increasing competition, declining quality of
customer service, and limitation of expansion. These issues have an enormous impact on Dell s
position as a technological giant in the PC industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dell positioned itself as a successful differentiator; however, its competitive differentiation is no
longer an advantage for it due to the ease of their Direct Model imitation. Home and corporate users
dominate the five categories of buyers on PC consumption. There are large amounts of these buyers in
the market that are price sensitive and have low switching costs on their products which raises overall
buyers power. However, in the case of Dell, many customers became frustrated with Dell. For
example, Dell s call centers received manyf discouraged clients comments. One reason: many service
representatives were trained to solve only one category of a problem, so almost 45% of calls had to be
transferred from the agent who answered the call to someone with the knowledge needed to help the
customer. Richard L. Hunter, who was brought in to improve Dell s customer service, called the
situation terrible , explaining that it was comparable to delivering materials to the wrong factory 45
percent of the time. Worse, to slow the tide of calls from customers, Dell tried removing its toll free
service number from its website. Customers reactions showed up in Dell s declining market share and
slumping customer satisfaction ratings (Certo, 2013). Moreover, when Dell went on to expand its tech
support outsourcing with other call centres in India, customers began complaining. Consequently, Dell
stopped being perceived as an American role

What Is Kant s Categorical Imperative
In order to evaluate whether one s actions are moral, we use many moral dilemmas. One of them is
Kant s categorical imperative. This essay presents Kant s project of categorical imperative. Then, I
will explain that rulers should appeal to Kant s categorical imperative when making foreign policy
decision. In order to support my point of view, I will give importance to the reasons of why rulers
appeal to categorical imperative when making foreign policy, so I have two reasons for this. One of
them is that states depend on each other in economically and politically. Thus, in order to provide this
stability which means that continue to stay among other states, states should act through the principles
of categorical imperative which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to explain the first reason of why rulers should appeal to categorical imperative when making
foreign policy decisions, we can think about the growing trade between the states. States become more
interdependent when trades among various states expand. Interdependence is not only important
economically but also politically because all economic or business activity depends on political
positions of the states. When states trade between each other, they become mutually dependent on
each other s political advantages. Also, world markets are influenced by politics and state s power in
the world markets depends on its foreign policy. So, states should establish good relations with other
states. For this reason, when making foreign policy decisions, ruler should appeal to categorical
imperative. Firstly, rulers actions must be universally valid. If state s foreign decisions are internally
valid, then state cannot benefit from this politically and economically. For example, if the state decide
to change the price of its export goods up without approval of other states, then states could not sell its
goods whose price increase, because other states want to buy the same goods from another country
whose price is cheaper. Second point is that if state s intention is bad and this kind of intention is
understood by other states, this state is reproached by other states, which have a relation with this
state. As a result of

John P. Kotter s Leading Change
In the first chapter Leading Change by John P. Kotter brought out the fact that all companies (large
and small) go through changes. Some are to remain competitive others are to keep up with the
changing marketing tactics. These efforts have gone under many banners: total quality management,
reengineering, rightsizing, restructuring, culturing, change, and turnaround (Review, 2011, p. 1). Now
to add another name, my company calls it PEx (production excellence. It is really not looked at as a
good thing. We have a separate PEx group. When a manager has a process that they want to change
(or update) they call the PEx team. After many (many many) meetings with core people changes are
made. I have been through a few and looking back, it was not enjoyable.
In this chapter step 1 of the 8 steps of transforming your organization is creating a sense of urgency. It
stands to reason that error 1 of 8 is the opposite or not a great enough sense of urgency. One of the
statements that I hear often is Why change we have always done it this way . Another one is, If it is
not broken don t fix it.

20th Century Philosophy
This week s paper we were to research and identify three prevailing philosophical perspectives at
work during the 20th Century. To begin I will research the history of a few new tendencies in
contemporary philosophy. Then I will discuss the Tom Rockmore interpretation of such tendencies.
Tom Rockmore is Professor of Philosophy and a McAnulty College Distinguished Professor, Dr.
Rockmore s current research interests encompass all of modern philosophy, with special emphasis on
selected problems as well as figures in German idealism (Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Marx) and recent
continental philosophy (Heidegger, Habermas, Lukacs). He is continuing to explore the epistemology

The most practical of analytical philosophy also included Moore, and Carnape. The American (neo)
pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles
Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatists stress
the practical purpose of knowledge as a way for acclimatizing to reality and controlling it. Pragmatism
concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori reasoning.
However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with reality or in terms
of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of verification. Pragmatists
translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of reality; more specifically, they
are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct, hypotheses or forecasts of what will result
from a given action, or ways of organizing behavior(Answer,2010)
Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies, barely
any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual lack of
attention. In spite of this, the situation is changing slowly: especially American philosophers like
Taylor, Nagel, Rorty and others converse subjects in which until recently only

Since a young age, I always had a fear of heights and so when I was asked to take part in jumping off
a bridge (bungee jumping) in South Africa, my natural reaction was to say no, and that is exactly what
I did. But while others were getting ready for the jump I asked myself one question; why am I scared
of heights. I knew I had to face it one day. It was in a fight of flight situation and so, on the spur of the
moment I decided fight. It was a decision I have never regretted even though minutes before the jump
I was very scared. As I leaped of the bridge I felt like I was on the top of the world. Adrenalin flowed

was but because of how I was able to conquer my fear. It taught me to always try new things and to be
adventurous. I learned that if I have faith and confidence in myself then I can accomplish anything no

Negative Consequences Of Sharp Drop Of Crude Oil Prices On...
This study will examine the negative consequences of sharp drop of crude oil price on the Nigerian
economy. The descriptive study will use secondary data from the Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) and
the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conduct the study and examine whether over dependency
on crude oil sector production and export is detrimental and hurting production and exportation of
other sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and service sectors. The variables for this study
therefore are the production and exportation data of crude oil, agriculture, service and manufacturing.
The data will be sort and obtained from the CBN and backed up with the IMF data. Having
conceptualized the theory of the study in the previous paper (week one assignment), effort will be
made in this paper to merge these conceptual elements (theory and empirical data) together. This paper
will focus more on how to measure and ensure the validity of the study, including the data collection,
data analysis and overall methodology, design and even research findings. However, we are going to
focus more on the validity.
VALIDITY:
Validity in general is the determination of how sound the information presented in the study is; based
on the facts that a valid research study will present valid and believable findings (Trochim, Donnelly,
2008). Validity of a research study relies on the validly of the data collection, analysis, and

Penn State Needs to End Paterno’s Time in Power Essay
Penn State Needs to End Paterno s Time in Power
Joe Paterno has been at the helm of Penn State football since 1966. In the world of intercollegiate
sports it s hard to find a coach that has a tenure with the same institution for more than ten years. In
the past 37 seasons, Coach Paterno has won an astonishing 336 games, breaking Paul Bear Bryant s

Records weigh heavily in the highly competitive world of college football. Every season a coach puts
his career on the line and when games are lost, so is their job. Several coaches who have had the same
lack of success that Paterno has had lately have lost their jobs. Bob Davie was fired from his job at
Notre Dame after a 6 6 season record with the Irish in 2001. John Mackovic lost his coaching position
half way through his 2003 campaign with the Arizona Wildcats with a 30 34 win/loss record. These
coaches don t match Paterno s career overall, but are equivalent in their last five seasons with their
respective programs.
Freeing the team from Joe Paterno allows them to find a coach that knows how to win football games
now. Paterno When you watch Joe at practice, he runs from drill to drill. He s extremely smart. He s
not detached (Dye). If Penn State has been playing so poorly and Paterno seems to have so much
control over the team at practices and on the field then doesn t a correlation stand out? A concern on
the minds of Penn State coaches, players, alumni, and thousands of other fans is that even if Paterno
retires would the Nittany Lions still lose? This is a possibility, but the organization has to assess all the
risks involved in a transition. A change in leadership is very complicated, but the payoff can also be
just as lucrative. Ohio State is a prime example of this type of fortune. Long time coach John Cooper

Similarities Between Cinderella And Folk Tales
A folk tale is a type of story passed down from generation to generation. These tales encounter a
method to explain things to people did not understand, or to teach a life lesson. Different cultures have
different folktales and many of the time there are varying versions of the same story. One of the most
popular fairy tales from around the world is Cinderella, there are over 900 variations of Cinderella
folk tales around the world. Furthermore, the most famous Shakespeare s play Hamlet is the longest
play in five acts. Not to mention, there is a lot of similarity between the two tales some are obvious
like the family unity or the Oedipal Complex, other are more concealed like the law of three or the law
of twins.
The law of three is a very noticeable element in many folk tales. In the family of Cinderella tale they
consist of two stepsisters and a stepmother, also to mention in the tale the time Cinderella should
return to her home is midnight (Glenning). We can reduce twelve to three by adding the two to one
add up to three. Furthermore, there are many examples to support the law of three in Hamlet the
Shakespeare s longest play, the king ghost appears three times and multiple lines declared up to three
times. With the present of Claudius in the Hamlet tragedy to represent a lover s triangle another
evidence of the law of three.
Since the start of the Hamlet play, Hamlet always acts in a logical and educated manner. He expresses
himself, and his actions by the power of reasoning and knowledge. It is proven, when Hamlet sees his
father s ghost, he does not immediately believe it is his father ghost, but instead, he says Let me not
burst in ignorance; but tell / Why thy canonized bones, hearsed in death, / Have burst their cerements .
. . Say, why is this? wherefore? what should we do? (I.iv.46 48,57). Hamlet was mystified by the
appearance of his father s ghost. Hamlet as a skeptical person was not sure how to act with the ghost
(Aboukhadijeh) , since his logical thinking figures that the sight of the ghost is impossible. on the
other hand, his emotion as a son to see his dead father contract with him. Nonetheless, he suppresses
his desire to see his father and maintain his doubts about the ghost. Hamlet

The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and the

The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most human scene in the entire poem . In
the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two men
who ironically have much in common below the surface.

Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is
also a reaction to Achilles his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not overlooking
what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has brought much
glory to the side of the Achaians.
By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone
of peace.
. There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is uncompromisingly
tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and Achilles will soon be killed.
Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives.
Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens
our sense of what it means to be human
NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father
(Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last book, a
father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown. Though this
symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and contradictions. As you

Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes. Homer values both

Analysis Of The American Flamingo
When I looked at John James Audubon painting of the American Flamingo, his painting describes the
nature of the life of the flamingos and how their body moves around for them to go on with their
nature. The aspects that Audubon caught while painting the American Flamingo, that in the
background of the big rose pink flamingo that takes up most the paint, there you see a flamingo
standing differently than the other flamingos around that one. Also the different angles of how the
flamingos move their neck around. When I look at the rose pink flamingo s legs I see how fragile they
look, but Audubon might have wanted to paint the flamingo s legs to show how delicate they are. The
painting does not give off the dark and gloomy nature of life but the life that was given to the
flamingos. The color choice that Audubon use was vibrant and detailed for the flamingo in the front

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights movement.
Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other power struggles
among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep the musical
lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off the
1988 comedy film by John Waters also named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil Rights
movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a local

show and new changes in the air, the theme of equality reoccurs as Tracy fights to make the show

Classroom Management Strategies For High School Teachers
Six Classroom Management Strategies for High School Teachers
(Without Good Classroom Management a Teacher Loses Control)
One of the biggest keys to being a successful teacher is classroom management. Of course, there are
different needs depending on if you teach kindergartners or high school auto shop students, and every
teacher has his or her own individual style. A constant through out all classrooms is this, without good
classroom management, a teacher loses control. Once you lose control of the classroom the amount of
actual teaching and learning diminishes to almost nothing.
I am by nature not a strong disciplinarian and like to be relaxed and fun with my class. I will never be
known as that mean teacher . I am the teacher students think they can get away with mischief in class,
and in my early years, they did get away with a lot. I will never be up to the level of one of my
colleagues, who has been teaching high school English for almost 40 years. She is a wonderful woman
who can even scare other teachers during staff meetings if they were to talk or fidget.
I have however, over the years been able to find ways to combine my somewhat easygoing personality
with some constant classroom rules and ideas to maintain a good learning atmosphere. Here is a
simple list of six suggestions I think most teachers will agree with and should use.
1) Over plan each day You need to keep students busy working or listening. If you have a dead time at
the end of your class, it can be

Literature Review On Pancreas
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
1.Pancreas
1.1. Anatomy and History of Pancreas:
The pancreas is an organ situated just below the stomach and it contributes to the digestion of
foodstuffs and metabolism regulation. The pancreas was first described by the Greek anatomist,
Herophilus of Chalcedon around 300 B.C. and later named by Rufus of Ephesus around 100 AD with
the Greek term for all (pan) flesh (creas) because of its fleshy appearance . However, the function of
this tissue wasn t known until the 1850 s when Claude Bernard demonstrated that pancreatic juice
could digest fats and starches. Then, in 1869, Paul Langerhans described islands of cells embedded
within the fleshy tissue and these were later named islets of Langerhans in his honour. Research by
von Mering and Minkowski in 1889 was the first to connect the pancreas to Diabetes Mellitus and
later Eugene Opie provided evidence that it was the islets of Langerhans that were involved in
diabetes. (Busnardo et al.,1983). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Glucose is transported into the pancreatic β cell by type 2 glucose transporters (GLUT2). Once inside,
the first step in glucose metabolism is the phosphorylation of glucose to produce glucose 6 phosphate.
This step is catalyzed by glucokinase; and its further metabolism in mitochondria alters the adenosine
triphosphate (ATP)/ adenosine diphosphate (ADP) ratio that leads to closure of ATP sensitive K+
channels. It results in membrane depolarisation and opening of voltage gated calcium channels. The
subsequent increase in cytosolic free calcium ion (Ca2+) cause phosphorylation of protein kinase
which induce insulin secretion via exocytosis [(Ashcroft et al., 1994; Lang, 1999 and Henquin, 2000)
as shown in fig.

the mending wall Essay
ANALYSIS #2: THE MENDING WALL
In the poem, The Mending Wall Frost creates a lot of ambiguity in order to leave the poem open for
interpretation. Frost s description of every detail in this poem is very interesting, it leaves the reader to
decide for themselves what deductions they are to be making of the poem. To begin with, Frost makes
literal implications about what the two men are doing. For instance, they are physically putting the
stones back, one by one. Their commitment and constant drive shows how persistent these men seem
about keeping the wall intact. On the other hand, there are inferences that something deeper is
occurring.
One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the poem continues, we see that what they are doing is somewhat of a game. The speaker even
states, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game. The speaker goes on to say, We keep the wall between
us as we go. Almost as if there is a competition between the two. He is all pine and I am apple orchard
It seems to indicate that these two men are very different, but despite this difference they form a
unique bond.
Frost also uses an application of the stone itself. Stay where you are until our backs are turned. By
personifying the stone, it shows that the speaker may be so bored that he is willing to speak with
inanimate objects. Also, this shows that his partner may not be all that talkative as was expected. After
all, the neighbor only says one thing, Good fences make good neighbors. :
However there is also a separation or segregation. In addition to the separation of the two men, Frost
contrasts his wall of separation with the idea of segregation in our society. He uses this wall to display
a separation between people in the current social climate. Lastly, there is the recurring idea that the
wall should not be there. We do not need the wall This sentence implies that the wall separating us as
people, needs to

Staffing Plan Paper
Appropriate staffing can be the key to success for many organizations therefore, the human resources
(HR) department must develop a staffing plan. In this paper I will develop a staffing plan for a new
division at T Mobile called Loyalty. Loyalty will consist of marketing, customer service, distribution,
and accounting. Specific strategies to recruit the appropriate applicants including the legal compliance
of said strategies will be developed in this paper.
Initially HR has to understand the need for the division called Loyalty. The loyalty division will meet
the needs of customers who have been with the company for more than two years. ... Show more

The representatives would be able use these elements to address at risk customer issues in an effort to
reduce customer disconnects and increase customer loyalty.
Distribution
When offers of reduced pricing are accepted for equipment, meeting delivery expectations becomes an
important part of enhancing the customer experience to maintain satisfied loyal customers. An
inventory specialist in the current distribution center would be given the additional task of segregating
and maintaining inventory levels to meet the needs of the customer loyalty department.
Recruitment Strategies
The best strategy for obtaining the right people, for the newly created customer loyalty positions,
would be internal recruiting followed by company website if necessary. The strategy for this type of
recruitment requires no additional funding and is the best opportunity for HR to hire employees who
already have an investment in customer loyalty because they already work for the company and are
familiar with company values (Raymond A. Noe, John R. Hollenbeck, Barry Gerhart, Patrick M.
Wright, 2007). Additional benefits of internal recruiting are the ability to see performance evaluations
for the applicants and the ability to set a requirement that all applicants must be meeting the company
performance standards set for their current position. The move to the newly created division would be
seen as a career path for many employees and a promotion for others. Internal

These students are extremely gifted and will be taking the AP exam for college credit towards the end of the school year. The students will be learning about the dynamic and static characters in the book. They will be identifying how the dynamic character changes throughout the story and how the static characters stay the same. This is important because these students are undergoing major changes in their lives at this point; they will be attending college next year and taking a big leap into the somewhat unknown. I want the students to be able to see the difference between change and what is stagnant. The students will also be able to chart the progression, or lack thereof in the main characters. The June Days of the French Revolution of 1848 tells such a history where lawlessness, rebellion, and economic depression culminated in an uprising in Paris that divided the city between insurgents and loyalists. Thus the streets were a key battleground in the June Days and French Revolution of 1848 dictating the conflict s outcome and serving a variety of interests. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The election of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte as president ended the French Revolution of 1848 and signified a new direction for France. However, Napoleon eager not to forgot the lessons of June Days commissioned a massive renovation campaign of Paris headed by Georges Eugène Haussmann. Haussmann expanded the streets and created boulevards as to arguably make the streets much more difficult to barricade. Many of the small narrow streets and residential buildings of the inner city as a result were destroyed to make way for Haussmann s wide boulevards. Thousands of people were forced to relocate to the outer edges of the city. This is important because it ensured that a revolt like the June Days would be much more difficult in the future if possible at all. The importance of placing the product in a mainstream position is to successfully launch an innovative product creating more market share for Paramount and for Clean Edge to become the most sought out razor in the industry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clean Edge by Paramount gives customers a clear perception of the advantages of the product without being concerned about other product categories. Critique of Rejected Options There are several reasons why the project team should reject the first option in positioning Clean Edge in a niche. The first reason concerns the pricing strategy. Placing the product in a niche position would make the razor more expensive in the retail sense. Catering to the more involved groomers places the product at a suggested retail price at $12.99. Placing the product at a higher price in the niche position could only lead Clean Edge Razor to a limited market. Rosenberg suggested placing the product in the niche position for a year or two; however, this could lead to prevention in attracting a wider customer base for the product during that time frame. Another reason Paramount should not place in the niche position is their significantly low marketing budget compared to their competitors. In just media advertising alone, Radiance spent $16 million on Naiv. For Clean Edge, the cost for advertising for the niche position would only be $7 million. Examples Of Affective Events Theory Affective Events Theory is recognising different factors that cause employees emotional reactions on their work and how the emotional reactions influence the employees job performance (Greenberg, 2011). This theory helps employers to understand employees moods and emotions at workplace. Affective Events Theory examines the impacts of work related incidents on emotional reactions and the following consequences for attitudes and behaviour (Russell Bennett, Hartel Beatson, n.d.). Ashkanasy (2002) stated that Affective Events Theory is the collection of a sequence of positive or negative affective events that turns to positive or negative affective states. According to the study, by the Treatment Advocacy Center, psychiatric beds are now available at a level equivalent to that of 1850 (Torrey et al., 2012), the point in history at which the treatment of the mentally ill started to change with a shift to state run facilities. One of the major consequences of this crisis is seen in jails and prisons around the nation that are increasingly populated by individuals with untreated mental illness, with some facilities reporting that one third or more of their inmates are severely mentally ill. (Torrey et al., 2012. p. 6). One measure of the social and economic costs of this systemic failure is the remarkably high rate of recidivism and the associated social fallout. In California close to 80% of all persons released from prison will return to a state of incarceration within 1 3 years of release. An overwhelming number of these returning inmates are doing so as a function of their failure to meet or carry out terms of release, not for the commission of new crimes (Maxwell Royo, 2005). Economically speaking, a person incarcerated in a State Prison in California costs the state on average $49,000 a year to house, feed and protect. However, in the case of Dell, many customers became frustrated with Dell. For example, Dell s call centers received manyf discouraged clients comments. One reason: many service representatives were trained to solve only one category of a problem, so almost 45% of calls had to be transferred from the agent who answered the call to someone with the knowledge needed to help the customer. Richard L. Hunter, who was brought in to improve Dell s customer service, called the situation terrible , explaining that it was comparable to delivering materials to the wrong factory 45 percent of the time. Worse, to slow the tide of calls from customers, Dell tried removing its toll free service number from its website. Customers reactions showed up in Dell s declining market share and slumping customer satisfaction ratings (Certo, 2013). Moreover, when Dell went on to expand its tech support outsourcing with other call centres in India, customers began complaining. Consequently, Dell stopped being perceived as an American role ... • 25. What Is Kant s Categorical Imperative In order to evaluate whether one s actions are moral, we use many moral dilemmas. One of them is Kant s categorical imperative. This essay presents Kant s project of categorical imperative. Then, I will explain that rulers should appeal to Kant s categorical imperative when making foreign policy decision. In order to support my point of view, I will give importance to the reasons of why rulers appeal to categorical imperative when making foreign policy, so I have two reasons for this. One of them is that states depend on each other in economically and politically. Thus, in order to provide this stability which means that continue to stay among other states, states should act through the principles of categorical imperative which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to explain the first reason of why rulers should appeal to categorical imperative when making foreign policy decisions, we can think about the growing trade between the states. States become more interdependent when trades among various states expand. Interdependence is not only important economically but also politically because all economic or business activity depends on political positions of the states. When states trade between each other, they become mutually dependent on each other s political advantages. Also, world markets are influenced by politics and state s power in the world markets depends on its foreign policy. So, states should establish good relations with other states. For this reason, when making foreign policy decisions, ruler should appeal to categorical imperative. Firstly, rulers actions must be universally valid. If state s foreign decisions are internally valid, then state cannot benefit from this politically and economically. For example, if the state decide to change the price of its export goods up without approval of other states, then states could not sell its goods whose price increase, because other states want to buy the same goods from another country whose price is cheaper. Second point is that if state s intention is bad and this kind of intention is understood by other states, this state is reproached by other states, which have a relation with this state. The most practical of analytical philosophy also included Moore, and Carnape. The American (neo) pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatism concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori reasoning. However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with reality or in terms of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of verification. Pragmatists translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of reality; more specifically, they are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct, hypotheses or forecasts of what will result from a given action, or ways of organizing behavior(Answer,2010) Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies, barely any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual lack of attention. By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone of peace. . There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The pancreas was first described by the Greek anatomist, Herophilus of Chalcedon around 300 B.C. and later named by Rufus of Ephesus around 100 AD with the Greek term for all (pan) flesh (creas) because of its fleshy appearance . However, the function of this tissue wasn t known until the 1850 s when Claude Bernard demonstrated that pancreatic juice could digest fats and starches. Then, in 1869, Paul Langerhans described islands of cells embedded within the fleshy tissue and these were later named islets of Langerhans in his honour.
