Investigating The National Hockey League Scandal And Its...
In todays fast paced society, White Collar Crimes are no longer overlooked. Rather, these crimes have
become the target for special task forces. They may occur once a month, once a year, or even once a
day. Some examples of these crimes include bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement,
cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery. (4*) White Collar
Crimes are usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I will be taking a
current National Hockey League scandal and relating it to white collar crime, specifically
embezzlement and corrupt influence. To begin, I will provide a brief explanation of corruption,
embezzlement and the power of a corrupt influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim
into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not
necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another
threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on someone,
usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the furthest from
the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow relationships with certain
people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has earned this trust over time as
you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain circumstances, this person could
use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal gain. Embezzlement may occur in
many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person to lose millions of dollars to another
individual or something as simple as a small, every day product. Embezzlement may be defined by
fraudulent conversion of another s property or money by a person to whom it has been entrusted. (4*)
For example, if a waitress in a restaurant were to take your order, bring your food, and proceed to
collect the payment without punching it into the computer. Instead she chooses to

Synthesis Of Magnesium Oxide
In the first reaction, the copper wire reacted with oxygen from the air in the reaction 2Cu(s) + O₂(g) →
2CuO(s). This is apparent because it was observed that copper underwent a chemical reaction,
changing color form a shiny orange color to the dark gray color characteristic of copper(II) oxide.
Therefore, the product of this reaction is copper(II) oxide. The reaction is a synthesis reaction because
copper and oxygen combine to form one compound.
In the second reaction, when the magnesium ribbon is heated, it undergoes the reaction, 2Mg(s) +
O₂(g) → 2MgO(s). The magnesium reacted with oxygen in the air to form magnesium oxide when the
magnesium ribbon was heated and it produced a white, matte, and crumbly product. This indicates
that the the product formed is magnesium oxide, a dull, white, substance. The reaction is classified as
a synthesis reaction because the magnesium and oxygen combined to form one product.
The third reaction is represented by the formula CuCO₃(s) → CuO(s) + CO₂(g). When heated, the
copper(II) carbonate breaks down into the products copper(II) oxide and carbon dioxide. We know
this because our wood splint stopped flaming the instant it was inserted into the test tube containing
the gaseous byproduct of the reaction. Because the flame was extinguished by the gas, we can infer
that the gaseous byproduct of the reaction was carbon dioxide, thus leaving the the solid copper oxide
in the test tube. The reaction is a decomposition reaction because

Ingvar Kamprad vs Steve Jobs Essay
Ingvar Kamprad and Steve Jobs are two people that have set their footmark forever on this planet.
Ingvar Kamprad is founder of the great furniture empire, IKEA. Steve Jobs is best known as one of
the co founders of Apple, the most valuable company on earth. Both these business gurus are huge
role models of mine and have definitely changed my way of thinking in several ways.
Mr. Kamprad could be any 85 year old white man with his faded coat, tinted prescription glasses and
scuffed shoes; he looks like just another pensioner scraping by on a tight budget. Even though Steve
Jobs left us as a 65 year old, together with his famous black mock turtleneck, blue mom jeans and
cheap tennis shoes, they both shared a simple way of dressing. ... Show more content on

Steve dropped college after only one semester and started to take a few part time jobs. In 1975, he
worked for a video/computer company but suddenly decided for a 7 months trip to India in search of
spiritual enlightenment. He came back to the US and started to experiment with psychedelics and
according to a book, Steve called his LSD experiences one of the two or three most important things
done in my life. After experimenting, he went back to the video/computer company and worked there
once again. Steve and his computer friend Stephen Wozniak shared the same passion for computers
and after they assembled their first computer, Apple Computer Company was born. The company was
born in Steve´s garage 1976, and they continued to build several computers. People were hired,
upgrades to bigger facilities were made and salesmen went great. Four years after Apples birth the
company was worth $200 million. After a dispute between Steve and his employees, his own creation
fired him. In revenge he started another computer company called NeXT and also bought the famous
animation studio Pixar which he shaped from only being a simple dough to the most delightful pastry.
Unlike Pixar, NeXT went bad but so did Apple. Steve convinced Apple to buy NeXT in order to
compete with Microsoft and years after that he returned to Apple as a CEO and turned the company
into what it is today, the most valuable company in the world (Internet). On the

Do The Right Thing Analysis
Do the Right Thing
Films document critical historical events, entertain masses and educate the public on particular
practices. Depending on the theme and intent of the director, films have a substantial contribution to
the human civilization. Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee is a1989 American comedy drama
that highlights the racial tension in the ancient society. The film depicts a typical day for Lee in
Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn when strains between the whites, Indians and African Americans were
on the rise. The production of the film took place when the issues regarding the African Americans
were largely ignored. Therefore, the setting of the video in a black dominated community illuminates
the style as well as outcomes of good and bad (Townsend). It addresses the stereotypical notions that
defined Africans as dangerous and violent by portraying a picture of hospitable characters. Other than
bringing the lifestyle of African American to the limelight, it has significant relevance ... Show more

Necessarily, it entails the use of resources and amenities while taking into consideration the
intergeneration and intragenerational needs. First, the fact that the film has importance to the current
society justifies that it met the standards of sustainability and widespread use. Second, the production
in the black community brings out uniqueness, resources and virtuous lifestyles of the peoples
including the Afrocentric dressing (Townsend). In terms of regional development, using the local
capitals to build the capacity and participatory approaches to decision making improves the
practicality of the interventions. The film meets this threshold because it explores the individuality of
a particular society, the systems, and institutions. This aspect is useful in designing workable strategies

How to Reduce the Amount of Chemicals and Toxins Found in...
For the first assignment in our contemporary chemistry class, Professor Johana Doe presented us with
a question. Give or take a few words, she wanted to know what chemistry meant to each of us. Many
of our classmates, including myself, responded to the proposed question with a not so surprising
response. We each reasoned that chemistry meant little or nothing to our lives or us. I always looked at
chemistry as a very annoying class that I took in high school that involved beakers and the periodic
table of elements. I can now say with the utmost certainty after taking this class that chemistry means
much more to me than nothing. Throughout this course I have come to realize that chemistry takes
part in every thing that happens around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is my intention to educate my readers about what chemicals are found in the home, why they are so
dangerous, and how we can work to limit the amount of these chemicals. In order to ultimately lessen
the amount of toxins and chemicals in our homes that affect our everyday lives, we must first know
what chemicals are in our homes and why they are so dangerous. According to the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, only a fraction of the more than 75,000 registered chemicals have gone through
complete testing for human health concerns (reduce.org). The Consumer Protection Agency estimates
that 150 chemicals found in the home are connected to allergies, birth defects, cancer and
psychological disorders. In our laundry rooms, for instance, we can find some of these solutions.
These solutions include laundry detergent, all purpose cleaners, and bleach. Laundry detergent for
instance contains cationic, anionic or non ionic solutions. These solutions, if swallowed, can cause
nausea, vomiting, shock, convulsions and coma (Young). For all of those who think to themselves,
why would I ingest laundry detergent? I would like you to think about your small children or the small
children of someone you know or even possibly your pets. Right next to our laundry detergent, I bet
every one has a gallon of bleach. Bleach, which

Betty Friedan Women s Rights
Who knows what women can be when they are finally free to be themselves Betty Friedan. Betty
Friedan was born on February 4, 1921, at a time when women were allowed to vote, however, they
were not respected in the workplace. Friedan was a revolutionary writer and women s rights activist,
who worked to bring women the same equality as men. She was an extraordinary woman who spoke
out about women s rights when others stayed silent. Betty Friedan was the most influential person in
getting women the same equal rights as men. Friedan, along with many other women, felt pressured to
devote her time only to child care and not her dream; eventually, she would change that. Although
women were allowed to vote, they were not allowed to hold government positions, and they were
treated poorly if they did have a job. At a young age, Betty Friedan witnessed her father force her
mother to stay home and quit her job. Later on in her life, Friedan was fired from her job for being
pregnant, along with many other women. According to the article Betty Friedan by Marta Schaff, They

Essay On Row By Row Data Layout
There are two obvious ways to map a two dimensional relational database table onto a one
dimensional storage interface: store the table row by row, or store the table column by column.
Historically, database system implementations and research have focused on the row by row data
layout, since it performs best on the most common application for database systems: business
transactional data processing. However, there are a set of emerging applications for database systems
for which the row by row layout performs poorly. These applications are more analytical in nature,
whose goal is to read through the data to gain new insight and use it to drive decision making and
planning. In this dissertation, we study the problem of poor performance of ... Show more content on

Designers require to compromise between optimizing query performance and maximizing query
flexibility. Columnar databases use less disk space and are more efficient in their I/O demands than
records based data warehouses but force their own compromise between optimizing for new record
insertion versus data selection and retrieval. The current paper gives an idea about advantages and
disadvantages of Row and Column Oriented Database concepts. The row by row approach keeps
information about an entity together. In the student example above, it will store all information about
the first student and then all information about the second student and so on. The column by column
approach keeps all attribute information together: all of the student name will be stored consecutively
and then all of the student email, etc Both approaches are well designed and typically a choice is made
based on performance expectation if the expected workload is based on entity (e.g., find a student, add
a student etc) then row by row approach is preferable because all information regarding a particular
student is stored together but if the expected workload tends to read per query only few attributed
from many records (e.g., a query that finds most common email address domain), then column by
column storage is preferable since irrelevant attributes for a particular query do not have to be access.
The row by row approach is writing

Like-A-Girl Campaign
I am very familiar with P G s Always Like a Girl campaign. I remember watching that commercial
and acknowledging the greatness behind it. As a tomboy growing up, I was always at the receiving

responses regarding girls was eye opening. Seriously, when did being a girl become an insult? My
daughter was in high school when this campaign was published. Even my teenager, the star basketball
player, acknowledged the importance of this campaign because she worked with young girls in the
summer and always told them they could be anything they wanted to be because being a girl did not

Of course, the feminine care product brand is not without challenges. In an industry where there is

Analysis Of A Christmas Story The Movie
A Christmas Story the Musical The movie A Christmas Story has always been a family favorite and
tradition, so when the opportunity came up to go and see it as a theater production, my mom and I
knew that is exactly what we wanted to see. On December 2nd, my mom and I spent the day together
by getting dinner, going shopping, and ending the night with a play. A Christmas Story the Musical
was produced by the Morgantown Theatre Company and directed by Hillary Phillips, both whom did
an outstanding job making sure everything was perfect from beginning to end. When I was in
elementary school every year we would go to a play produced by the same company, so going back as
a sophomore in college brought back fun childhood memories, as did seeing my childhood favorite
Christmas movie on stage. I personally believe that this production was directed, preformed, and
thought out extremely well with an overall experience of excitement, laughter, and the Christmas
spirit! The relationship and energy that the audience had towards the performance made a large impact
on my enjoyment of the play. Since A Christmas Story is such a popular movie, hundreds of people
came out and packed the theatre! The doors to the theatre did not open until a half hour before, so
there was a large line that wrapped around the building, despite it being cold people were very upbeat
and excited; many families had on matching Christmas sweaters, children worse their pajamas, and
some people when wore Santa

Howard Zinn s The United States
Howard Zinn s A People s History of the United States has been highly influential since its initial
publication in 1980. It spawned adaptations for young readers (a two volume adaptation by Rebecca
Stefoff: A Young People s History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History Channel
documentary based on Zinn s work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic figure to many,
especially for this book and for his ongoing teaching and social activism, which were directly related.
A People s History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A 1980
Library Journal review called it brilliant and moving and said it was well designed to appeal to both
historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of these
critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball s review in the conservative National Review labeled
Zinn a Professor of contempt and dismissed the work as the ultimate in anti American history, a
patchwork of leftist clichés. Oscar Handlin s review for The American Scholar dismissed both Zinn s
approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn s claims as fallacious.
Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn s
reasoning directly. Bruce Kuklick s review of the book for The Nation suggested that A People s
History of the United States was essentially a textbook for the left, and as such it

The Destructive Nature of Industrialization Depicted in...
In Herman Melville s short stories, The Paradise of Bachelors and The Tartarus of Maids, he
juxtaposes the lives of social classes to illustrate the destructive nature of industrialization. Melville
demonstrates the separation of classes by his usage of allusions and metaphors. Segregation is a main
concern of Melville s and, the contrast amid the two stories is a representation of the disparity between
classes present at that time.
While it may seem that the bachelors live the ideal life with all of their luxuries, the bachelors
hedonistic lifestyle is unsatisfied with their lack of creation. If they are not contributing to society then
they must be taking away from society. We learn that their lives are only regurgitations of ... Show

In reality, the motivation for acquiring control was greed. Melville alludes to the templars of the
crusades to exemplify the self righteous characteristics of the upper class. The thing called pain, the
bugbear styled trouble those two legends seemed preposterous to their bachelor imaginations
(Melville 673). The bachelors live in a world above pain. Without pain one cannot relate to others and,
as a result the bachelors cannot understand their unfortunate counterparts, the maids. Since the
bachelors are not able to relate to anyone other than themselves, they are incapable of partaking in any
significant relationships. As a result the bachelors throw their extravagantly superficial parties in
which they tell impersonal stories and gorge on fine food. Melville sarcastically states their care for
one another when the narrator says, The nine bachelors seemed to have the most tender concern for
each other s health. All the time, in flowing wine, they most earnestly expressed their sincerest wishes
for the entire well being and lasting hygiene of the gentlemen on the right and on the left (Melville
672). Melville is saying that the class that rules society lives an unfulfilling life. The business owners
do not care or respect their own people enough to take their needs into consideration. The upper class
cannot be content because they have not treated the working class justly.
In the story, there is a recurrent idea of pain and subjugation. The narrator begins

Thomas Woodrow Wilson
Thomas Woodrow Wilson Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born in the small town of Staunton, Virginia
on December 29, 1856 or, as other sources say, the 28 of December. He was the third of four kids with
two sisters and one brother. His parents were Joseph Wilson and Jessica Woodrow Wilson. Tommy
was only at the age of two years when his family moved to Augusta, Georgia. Then, two years later
the civil war had started and, while the war was going on, his dad had changed the church into a
confederate hospital. Curious about the soldiers, Tommy often would sneak over to the church were

learned the alphabet until age nine and he did not learn to read until he was eleven. However, the way
most of Thomas education was he and his father would visit a place, and for when they returned home
Tommy would have to recite what he had saw at the visit. His dad only pushed him harder by making
him write a paper. If his father did not understand anything he would go to young Thomas and ask
what he meant. Wilson would answer to what he meant and his father would tell him to rewrite the

Montesquieu Separation Of Power Part 1
PART 1(BULLETS 1 2) Popular sovereignty is the governments control should be based off of the
approval of the citizens, and whom the citizens elect. A generic example would be the Democratic
principles of the united states of America. The root of popular sovereignty dates back to the 1600s,
when Hobbes, Rousseau, and Locke created these intellectual and philosophical views. These men as
well as the founding fathers wanted to establish a more stable government. They did this by making
every law not decided by the consent of the people, directly or indirectly unconstitutional and
illegitimate.
Separation of Powers is the disunion of one division to equally split the ability to different
subdivisions. A generic example would be the use of the branches in America to limit the power of one
person or group. This was created by Montesquieu and his three branches are judicial, executive, and
legislative. The origin of separation of power was in France by a man named Montesquieu. In his ...

populace.

Republicanism has increasing been growing within New Zealand. Their is speculation that the

people of New Zealand had a resurgence to keep a monarchy, but there was suspicion that this
happened only because of her sixtieth year on throne and her achievements were in reminisce with in
the country. This demonstrates republicanism because the populous of New Zealand are turning into a

Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal for White Americans Only

This power helped white families considerably in gaining ownership of houses, but severely crippled
home ownership ability for African American families. The role of the HOLC was to provide low
interest loans and refinance homes to prevent foreclosure; the role of the FHA was to guarantee
mortgages from default. Both of these organizations worked to minimize the risk of home loans for
banks, making it easier for families to obtain loans and mortgages to buy homes. This resulted in an
explosion of home ownership from the 1930 s to the 1960 s, In 1930, only 30 percent of Americans
owned their homes; by 1960, more than 60 percent were home owners. The effect of these policies
may have afforded an array of opportunities to white Americans, but they had a very different effect
on the African American population. The establishment of these policies contributed to a state of
unequal and segregated housing among African Americans and whites referred to as the dual housing
market. In a dual housing market, the price of any given home was assigned two separate prices
depending on the race of the buyer. White families were being given substantially lower prices and
more options by realtors for homes than African American families were. Realtors were at the root of
this problem, Chicago s realtors were thus instrumental in the creation of a dual housing market both
locally and nationally that is, a white market of low

The Cause Of The Dancing Plague Of 1518
The Dancing Plague of 1518 was an occurrence of unknown origin. Although still unsolved, there
have been theories published on the subject. The theories that have been brought to light are mass
hysteria caused by St. Vitus, Ergotism, Tarantism, and an unknown type of heretical cult. None of
these ideas are able to truly explain the abrupt Dancing Plague that occurred in Strasbourg. This is not
the first time this type of event has occurred. Dancing epidemics have also occurred in other areas of
Europe in earlier centuries, but without the same deadly outcome as the 1518 plague. The most
popular theory on the cause of 1518 s Dancing Plague is the mass hysteria theory. John Waller, a firm
supporter of this theory, was able to give very convincing evidence. Although the mass hysteria has
more creditable evidence, it is still not capable of being the exact cause for the Dancing Plague. The
Dancing Plague may be thought of as a faux tale, but there are multiple records to prove that this
occurrence is nowhere near a tale passed on through centuries. The Dancing Plague was and still is
one of the most mysterious events in the 16th century. The Dancing Plague occurred in Strasbourg in
July, 1518. It all began with a woman named Frau Troffea, who began dancing uncontrollably in the
middle of the streets. She did this night and day on her own without stopping for nearly a week. The
disease began to spread to three dozen other victims after a week of Frau Troffea s solo dancing. By

environmental issues like pollution and radiation. In this day in age refusing to assimilate to at least

alone every year. The issue of driving while talking on a cell phone has become serious enough that
five states have passed laws prohibiting this type of act and making it a primary offense to do so. Not
only are drivers talking behind the wheel, but many have admitted to engaging in even more
potentially dangerous behavior with their phones such as text messaging and surfing the internet. A
distracted driver is a dangerous one. If you are focused on a conversation and your eyes are not on the
road, drivers cannot be expected to make a quick and safe decision should the need for one arise. The
behavior of a driver while using a cell phone has been compared to that of one driving while under the
influence. Studies have shown that those who use a cell phone while driving are four times more
likely to be involved in a crash than those who don t. On the flip side, it is very reassuring to know as
you are driving down the highway that if you were to get a flat tire or your engine were to overheat
you could flip open that gadget in the cup holder next to you and have a plan b on the way. Cell
phones have also been used to make calls in more serious life and death situations where immediate
help is needed. Obviously, having a cell phone in your car within reach is much better when the

The welfare state was first started by the Liberal government between 1906 1919. They started to
introduce new services under social security, health, education, housing, employment and the
treatment of offenders. Rowntree did research into poverty and this influenced the Liberal government
to take responsibility to try to reduce poverty. In 1906 free school meals were introduced, in 1909 old
age pensions were given to those who could no longer work. The most important thing the Liberals
introduced was National Insurance in 1911. These changes mainly helped the old and disabled as it
prevented these groups from going into poverty. However it didn t help those who were unemployed
or already in poverty as they could pay into the National Insurance scheme.
In 1940 50, after winning the Second World War the people of Britain never wanted to return to pre
war conditions. There had been 20 years of mass unemployment and no help was given to those in
poverty. The measures introduced by the Liberal government were not proving successful. The
environments and housing people had to live in were of poor condition and helped spread disease.
The Labour government decided that no one should be allowed to live in poverty and the Welfare state
should be for everybody. To get rid of disease everyone was to have proper healthcare so the National

Discussion
By the time of his death, Paul Cézanne was highly admired as an artist. He did not have the time to
finish the painting The Large Bathers , which was exhibited in a posthumous homage to him a year
later after his death. As such, many of the young artists in Paris at that time saw the painting as a
strong inspiration and creative challenge. Both Matisse and Picasso were influenced by Cézanne s last
painting.
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre is similar to The Large Bathers in some aspects: it depicted nude figures
in nature. The main difference, when compared with Cézanne s work, is the difference in scale.
Matisse shifted the scale in what appears to be in a random way. As an example, there are two human
bodies next to each other that have different scales. The same does not occur with Cézanne s work.
Another difference is that Matisse used bright colors that did not match with reality. (Harris Zucker,

Reflection On Interpersonal Communication
Reflection Paper I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I
didn t pass it mainly because I wasn t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it
fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three
classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after
that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn t because I
wanted to learn more. I ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the
problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn t listen to me or I just wouldn t listen to her at
all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about
how I don t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are
about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with
listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even
reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a
volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop
her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration.
She asked the class to volunteer somewhere for three hours which was pretty cool. I haven t had any
class in college where volunteering out in the community was a requirement. Because I had to
volunteer for a grade in class, I am now volunteering for the resist march in Los Angeles, June 11. I
wouldn t be going out to volunteer for this event if it weren t for this class. Knowing that my professor
goes to protests and marches at her age, she is truly an inspiration. I don t usually have time to go out
to marches anymore but seeing that she still does, I d want to participate more in the community. Now
only problem I had in this class was that I never really had my own seat. I moved to different seats
every time we had class. I felt very comfortable sitting in the back, but the professor doesn t like

The Production of Video Games Taught At School
An electronic device in which a player would control the images on the screen is known as video
games (WorldBookStudent). Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school.
This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take
over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The
answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not a mental disorder, but instead
many students may use video games as a stress reducer by releasing all their energy that they gain
during the day on the video games. These students would only feel that a videogame is more
interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean
that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of
where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they
play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the
concept within what the lesson is about. From this adults can understand how students do not do well
when they take tests and final exams. What can people do about this situation in this case? Since some
students within school are addicted to video games, therefore the school system should provide a
career pathway on how to create and program video games because it will allow these gaming
students to participate

Economic Benefits Of Wolf Packs
In the first scenario wolf pack are able to hunt reindeers easily, because there are less wolf packs
competing for a limited number of resources. This would mean that the wolf pack would use less
energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than
the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories.
Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the
opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are
going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition.
However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and
they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of
hunting equals its benefits. The behavior of the wolf packs will be the same in the perfect competition
market and there will be no readjustment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are too much wolf packs and some of them are unable to prey on reindeers on a regular basis.
On a general level this would mean that the costs of hunting ( producing ) are higher than equilibrium
price (calories gained). As a result some firms are going to exit the market (Again, there are no
barriers to entry/exit). The wolf packs will be underfed and some will either die out of hunger or
decide to leave the valley. This will decrease the number of sellers, hence the supply and drive the
equilibrium price up only to the point at which all wolf packs in the valley are able to gather enough
calories to maintain

Chivalry Code Of Conduct
Chivalry is the code of conduct that was followed by knights all around in the Dark Ages. It was used
to show honor and was built upon the foundation of righteousness, to protect the weak and to give to
the poor respect those of high authority as well as those who were not in high authority positions were
held in high esteem of those who followed Chivalric ideals. Most people did not live up to the code

because of its religious and courteous ideals that affected not only people at home, but also on the
battlefield. Chivalry has a long history and has many different versions that still hold the same ideals.

Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself Essay
Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself
Truth, beauty, and goodness are not eternal, objective realities which man discovers, but are the
creative products of the human mind as it exercises its will to power . In other words, man is a creator
of values. (Nietzsche) So what is good and evil, but that defined by man and therefore a purely
subjective concept. Could we, society, have one without the other? By determining what is good, we
in turn determine what is evil. How do we know what they are; that is if they really exist? One must
first try to define what good and evil are before attempting to question their existence.

His actions were good, not just because they were intended to be good for the whole society, but
because society viewed them as being for the good.
Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a flower
would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing in a flower
that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not have the ability
to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of course, Webster s
dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some confusion when
addressing it.
So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the
senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s dictionary,
which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of suffering, misfortune,
and wrongdoing. (Merriam Webster) Evil would be any intention to cause an undesirable effect upon
one s self or on another person. So by saying that the intentions of a person are not to cause good we
automatically assume that they are out to cause evil.
For instance, religious and political leaders of Dr. Martin Luther King s time resisted all efforts on his
part toward equality because he would be attempting to change an accepted way of life. King

The Impact Of External Forces On The Environment
When manipulating a business s strategies it is important to focus on the external factors in the
environment. An external analysis is where a business conducts environmental scanning that present a
company with the key external forces influencing the organization. The facets of external forces
examined are the business environment, remote environment, or the competitive environment. A
business environment is all of the external factors in the general environment that a firm cannot
control, but can affect their strategy. The remote environment is the forces that affect most firms.
Lastly, a competitive environment is the firm s specific industry and its entirety. The external analysis
is pertinent to a company called Dick s Drive In; without it, Dick s would not be a thriving popular
business today. Dick s Drive In uses the facets of external forces to market their focus on being a part
of Seattle s community. In a Forbes article written by Julie Pham s called, Dick s Drive In Scores

competitive environment of Seattle and cut his prices by nearly thirty percent in relation to his rivals.

Case Study On Cuttlefish

Masters of deception: Male Cuttlefish are coming to Steal Your Girl
Do you think you can keep other males away from your female partner by guarding her 24/7? You
know what? You cannot...Not if you re a male mourning cuttlefish. Biologists from Macquaire
University, Sydney have found out that by abusing their exceptional visual signaling skills male
cuttlefish are able to steal partners of rival males in front of their eyes!
Mourning cuttlefish are small marine animals which are 15cm on average and belong to the group
(Cephalapoda class to be specific) which include squids and octopus and their relatives. Mourning
cuttlefish live on eastern coasts of Australia. These animals like their relatives, are extremely social
and have high cognitive abilities. They are mostly known for their incredible ability to change color
and texture of their skin.
These cuttlefish use their ability to change the color of their skin for various purposes including
camouflage and communication with other cuttlefish and other animals. It was their ability to use their

They also did some additional observations on captive cuttlefish which, in my opinion, may not be so
reliable because it is known that behavior of animals can change substantially during captivity due to
unrealistic social and physical surrounding of the individuals. What the scientists did during their
observations was they followed a male cuttlefish and took photos of close encounters of the individual
with other individuals. The photos were taken so that both sides the male s body is visible in the
photo. They also recorded the number of individuals within the social interaction group and their

The Theme of Violence in Cage Bird, Giving Blood, Sand...
This semester in American Literature I have read and analyzed various literary works. The reoccurring
theme throughout the works is violence. I have came to the conclusion that the significance of
violence throughout the various works is that the group or individual singled out throughout the works
is the victim of violence because the enemy has something to gain from the victim. The literary works,
Caged Bird, Giving Blood, Sand Creek, and An Episode of War demonstrate this.
For example, Caged Bird by Maya Angelou demonstrates how a personal struggle can become a form
of violence. Angelou, an African American has a troubled childhood and as a result of her parents
divorce she is sent to live with her grandmother at a young age. ... Show more content on

Historically there have been racial tensions between white s and Native Americans. This resulted in
massacres of Native American s. The violence reflected in this short story is the denial of the blood
donation of the man and the massacre of the Native Americans by white s. The massacre was a gain
for white s because it eliminated the Native American s who were seen as a threat to the white s way
of life.
Another example of discrimination resulting in violence is reflected in the poem Sand Creek, by
Simon Ortiz. The poem is told from the point of view of an Indian who reflects on the brutality of
Indian deaths by the Anglos. The poem is a historical reference to the Sand Creek massacre, which
occurred in 1864 when a US military militia massacred a group of Indians who presented themselves
as friendly near a fort. At the conclusion of the poem the author emphasizes that things will improve
stating that, There are flowers, and new grass, and a spring wind rising from Sand Creek (2). The
author also states that things will change for the people of Indian decent. The violence throughout the
poem is the Anglos massacring the Indians just because they could.
Finally, in An Episode of War, by Stephen Crane an army lieutenant experiences the reality of war first
hand. In the short story, an army lieutenant is

The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against...
There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy
Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F.
Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the
pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing
grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and
wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not

This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges
refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also
willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare
decisis, in the pursuit of justice.
With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our

Historical Significance Of Mate Selection
Everyone who has ever lived, has an idea of certain things they would like to accomplish. For those
people who live in the United States, these accomplishment seem common: Earn an education, find a

the hardest accomplishments that face the generations of today is the mate selection process. With
times that are changing and becoming fast paced, the idea of individual sexuality, and the evolution of

romantic and pre marital status. The idea of love and meeting suitable mate has been changing over
the years. Beginning with arranged marriages between two families then pivoting to an idea of
working for the suitable mate (Jacob and Rachel), the idea of courtship and chivalry in the medieval
times, and now a romantic view on seeking and finding suitable mates. With the ever changing idea of
the search, note each change is due, in large part, to the society/culture it is surrounded by. The idea of
romanticism playing part in the mate selection process is not new. Societies have been practicing this
idea, but in cooperation with its own arrangements . Many families allowed the arranged couple to
court before pulling the trigger on the marriage. Romantic love searches are more popularized by the
western culture, mainly America.

The Problem of Evil Essay examples
The Problem of Evil
A) For what reasons may suffering create philosophical problems for a religious believer? (10)
B) Outline two solutions to these problems and comment on their success (10)
A) The problem of suffering has been around since the dawn of time, or as religious philosophers
believe; since Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden. The first problem that arises from evil
is that we believe that the God of classical theism has certain attributes. These are that:
· God is all powerful (Omnipotence)
· God is all loving (Omnibenevolence)
· God is all knowing (Omniscience)
· God creates ex nilho (out of nothing)
· God is infinite

Moral evil includes things that happen like murder and the holocaust that occurred whilst the Nazi s
were in charge of Germany. The types of natural evil that occur include things such as Floods,
Earthquakes and the Tsunami that occurred recently. These problems of moral and natural evil, they
contradict the God of classical theism again because if God was all of the things it is said that he is
then surely he would not create people such as Adolf Hitler who was responsible for so many deaths.
God would also not allow such things to happen in the world like natural evil, once again this
questions the attribute of God that says that God is all powerful, the question that arises from this is
that; Does God posses the power to actually stop natural evil from happening? There have been
philosophers such as Hume, who came up with the inconsistent triad. It still has two attributes of the
God of classical theism, however it has removed the attribute that says that God is all knowing and
replaced it with evil exists. The explanation that Hume gave for this is that you can not have all three
attributes together, he said that God must not know how to stop evil and suffering or because if he did
then he would have stopped it already.
It could be said that the level of suffering that somebody endures could make a difference for the

  • 2. Investigating The National Hockey League Scandal And Its... In todays fast paced society, White Collar Crimes are no longer overlooked. Rather, these crimes have become the target for special task forces. They may occur once a month, once a year, or even once a day. Some examples of these crimes include bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery. (4*) White Collar Crimes are usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I will be taking a current National Hockey League scandal and relating it to white collar crime, specifically embezzlement and corrupt influence. To begin, I will provide a brief explanation of corruption, embezzlement and the power of a corrupt influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on someone, usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the furthest from the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow relationships with certain people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has earned this trust over time as you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain circumstances, this person could use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal gain. Embezzlement may occur in many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person to lose millions of dollars to another individual or something as simple as a small, every day product. Embezzlement may be defined by fraudulent conversion of another s property or money by a person to whom it has been entrusted. (4*) For example, if a waitress in a restaurant were to take your order, bring your food, and proceed to collect the payment without punching it into the computer. Instead she chooses to ... • 3. Synthesis Of Magnesium Oxide In the first reaction, the copper wire reacted with oxygen from the air in the reaction 2Cu(s) + O₂(g) → 2CuO(s). This is apparent because it was observed that copper underwent a chemical reaction, changing color form a shiny orange color to the dark gray color characteristic of copper(II) oxide. Therefore, the product of this reaction is copper(II) oxide. The reaction is a synthesis reaction because copper and oxygen combine to form one compound. In the second reaction, when the magnesium ribbon is heated, it undergoes the reaction, 2Mg(s) + O₂(g) → 2MgO(s). The magnesium reacted with oxygen in the air to form magnesium oxide when the magnesium ribbon was heated and it produced a white, matte, and crumbly product. This indicates that the the product formed is magnesium oxide, a dull, white, substance. The reaction is classified as a synthesis reaction because the magnesium and oxygen combined to form one product. The third reaction is represented by the formula CuCO₃(s) → CuO(s) + CO₂(g). When heated, the copper(II) carbonate breaks down into the products copper(II) oxide and carbon dioxide. We know this because our wood splint stopped flaming the instant it was inserted into the test tube containing the gaseous byproduct of the reaction. Because the flame was extinguished by the gas, we can infer that the gaseous byproduct of the reaction was carbon dioxide, thus leaving the the solid copper oxide in the test tube. The reaction is a decomposition reaction because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ingvar Kamprad vs Steve Jobs Essay Ingvar Kamprad and Steve Jobs are two people that have set their footmark forever on this planet. Ingvar Kamprad is founder of the great furniture empire, IKEA. Steve Jobs is best known as one of the co founders of Apple, the most valuable company on earth. Both these business gurus are huge role models of mine and have definitely changed my way of thinking in several ways. Mr. Kamprad could be any 85 year old white man with his faded coat, tinted prescription glasses and scuffed shoes; he looks like just another pensioner scraping by on a tight budget. Even though Steve Jobs left us as a 65 year old, together with his famous black mock turtleneck, blue mom jeans and cheap tennis shoes, they both shared a simple way of dressing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steve dropped college after only one semester and started to take a few part time jobs. In 1975, he worked for a video/computer company but suddenly decided for a 7 months trip to India in search of spiritual enlightenment. He came back to the US and started to experiment with psychedelics and according to a book, Steve called his LSD experiences one of the two or three most important things done in my life. After experimenting, he went back to the video/computer company and worked there once again. Steve and his computer friend Stephen Wozniak shared the same passion for computers and after they assembled their first computer, Apple Computer Company was born. The company was born in Steve´s garage 1976, and they continued to build several computers. People were hired, upgrades to bigger facilities were made and salesmen went great. Four years after Apples birth the company was worth $200 million. After a dispute between Steve and his employees, his own creation fired him. In revenge he started another computer company called NeXT and also bought the famous animation studio Pixar which he shaped from only being a simple dough to the most delightful pastry. Unlike Pixar, NeXT went bad but so did Apple. Steve convinced Apple to buy NeXT in order to compete with Microsoft and years after that he returned to Apple as a CEO and turned the company into what it is today, the most valuable company in the world (Internet). • 5. Do The Right Thing Analysis Do the Right Thing Films document critical historical events, entertain masses and educate the public on particular practices. Depending on the theme and intent of the director, films have a substantial contribution to the human civilization. Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee is a1989 American comedy drama that highlights the racial tension in the ancient society. The film depicts a typical day for Lee in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn when strains between the whites, Indians and African Americans were on the rise. The production of the film took place when the issues regarding the African Americans were largely ignored. Therefore, the setting of the video in a black dominated community illuminates the style as well as outcomes of good and bad (Townsend). It addresses the stereotypical notions that defined Africans as dangerous and violent by portraying a picture of hospitable characters. Other than bringing the lifestyle of African American to the limelight, it has significant relevance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the fact that the film has importance to the current society justifies that it met the standards of sustainability and widespread use. • 6. How to Reduce the Amount of Chemicals and Toxins Found in... For the first assignment in our contemporary chemistry class, Professor Johana Doe presented us with a question. We each reasoned that chemistry meant little or nothing to our lives or us. Betty Friedan was born on February 4, 1921, at a time when women were allowed to vote, however, they were not respected in the workplace. Friedan was a revolutionary writer and women s rights activist, who worked to bring women the same equality as men. She was an extraordinary woman who spoke out about women s rights when others stayed silent. Betty Friedan was the most influential person in getting women the same equal rights as men. Friedan, along with many other women, felt pressured to devote her time only to child care and not her dream; eventually, she would change that. Although women were allowed to vote, they were not allowed to hold government positions, and they were treated poorly if they did have a job. At a young age, Betty Friedan witnessed her father force her mother to stay home and quit her job. Later on in her life, Friedan was fired from her job for being pregnant, along with many other women. Essay On Row By Row Data Layout There are two obvious ways to map a two dimensional relational database table onto a one dimensional storage interface: store the table row by row, or store the table column by column. Historically, database system implementations and research have focused on the row by row data layout, since it performs best on the most common application for database systems: business transactional data processing. However, there are a set of emerging applications for database systems for which the row by row layout performs poorly. These applications are more analytical in nature, whose goal is to read through the data to gain new insight and use it to drive decision making and planning. The current paper gives an idea about advantages and disadvantages of Row and Column Oriented Database concepts. The row by row approach keeps information about an entity together. In the student example above, it will store all information about the first student and then all information about the second student and so on. The column by column approach keeps all attribute information together: all of the student name will be stored consecutively and then all of the student email, etc Both approaches are well designed and typically a choice is made based on performance expectation if the expected workload is based on entity (e.g., find a student, add a student etc) then row by row approach is preferable because all information regarding a particular student is stored together but if the expected workload tends to read per query only few attributed from many records (e.g., a query that finds most common email address domain), then column by column storage is preferable since irrelevant attributes for a particular query do not have to be access. Analysis Of A Christmas Story The Movie A Christmas Story the Musical The movie A Christmas Story has always been a family favorite and tradition, so when the opportunity came up to go and see it as a theater production, my mom and I knew that is exactly what we wanted to see. On December 2nd, my mom and I spent the day together by getting dinner, going shopping, and ending the night with a play. A Christmas Story the Musical was produced by the Morgantown Theatre Company and directed by Hillary Phillips, both whom did an outstanding job making sure everything was perfect from beginning to end. When I was in elementary school every year we would go to a play produced by the same company, so going back as a sophomore in college brought back fun childhood memories, as did seeing my childhood favorite Christmas movie on stage. I personally believe that this production was directed, preformed, and thought out extremely well with an overall experience of excitement, laughter, and the Christmas spirit! The relationship and energy that the audience had towards the performance made a large impact on my enjoyment of the play. Since A Christmas Story is such a popular movie, hundreds of people came out and packed the theatre! The doors to the theatre did not open until a half hour before, so there was a large line that wrapped around the building, despite it being cold people were very upbeat and excited; many families had on matching Christmas sweaters, children worse their pajamas, and some people when wore Santa ... It spawned adaptations for young readers (a two volume adaptation by Rebecca Stefoff: A Young People s History of the United States) and The People Speak, a History Channel documentary based on Zinn s work. Zinn himself was until his death in 2010 a heroic figure to many, especially for this book and for his ongoing teaching and social activism, which were directly related. A People s History of the United States was praised from the moment it appeared on shelves. A 1980 Library Journal review called it brilliant and moving and said it was well designed to appeal to both historians and general readers. However, the volume was not without its criticisms. Some of these critiques align with party lines. Roger Kimball s review in the conservative National Review labeled Zinn a Professor of contempt and dismissed the work as the ultimate in anti American history, a patchwork of leftist clichés. Oscar Handlin s review for The American Scholar dismissed both Zinn s approach to history and the actual content of the work, citing a number of Zinn s claims as fallacious. Some criticisms of the work carried more intellectual weight and addressed the quality of Zinn s reasoning directly. In Herman Melville s short stories, The Paradise of Bachelors and The Tartarus of Maids, he juxtaposes the lives of social classes to illustrate the destructive nature of industrialization. Melville demonstrates the separation of classes by his usage of allusions and metaphors. Segregation is a main concern of Melville s and, the contrast amid the two stories is a representation of the disparity between classes present at that time. The thing called pain, the bugbear styled trouble those two legends seemed preposterous to their bachelor imaginations (Melville 673). The bachelors live in a world above pain. Without pain one cannot relate to others and, as a result the bachelors cannot understand their unfortunate counterparts, the maids. Since the bachelors are not able to relate to anyone other than themselves, they are incapable of partaking in any significant relationships. As a result the bachelors throw their extravagantly superficial parties in which they tell impersonal stories and gorge on fine food. Melville sarcastically states their care for one another when the narrator says, The nine bachelors seemed to have the most tender concern for each other s health. All the time, in flowing wine, they most earnestly expressed their sincerest wishes for the entire well being and lasting hygiene of the gentlemen on the right and on the left (Melville 672). Melville is saying that the class that rules society lives an unfulfilling life. The business owners do not care or respect their own people enough to take their needs into consideration. This power helped white families considerably in gaining ownership of houses, but severely crippled home ownership ability for African American families. The role of the HOLC was to provide low interest loans and refinance homes to prevent foreclosure; the role of the FHA was to guarantee mortgages from default. Both of these organizations worked to minimize the risk of home loans for banks, making it easier for families to obtain loans and mortgages to buy homes. This resulted in an explosion of home ownership from the 1930 s to the 1960 s, In 1930, only 30 percent of Americans owned their homes; by 1960, more than 60 percent were home owners. The effect of these policies may have afforded an array of opportunities to white Americans, but they had a very different effect on the African American population. The establishment of these policies contributed to a state of unequal and segregated housing among African Americans and whites referred to as the dual housing market. In a dual housing market, the price of any given home was assigned two separate prices depending on the race of the buyer. White families were being given substantially lower prices and more options by realtors for homes than African American families were. The theories that have been brought to light are mass hysteria caused by St. Vitus, Ergotism, Tarantism, and an unknown type of heretical cult. None of these ideas are able to truly explain the abrupt Dancing Plague that occurred in Strasbourg. This is not the first time this type of event has occurred. Dancing epidemics have also occurred in other areas of Europe in earlier centuries, but without the same deadly outcome as the 1518 plague. The most popular theory on the cause of 1518 s Dancing Plague is the mass hysteria theory. John Waller, a firm supporter of this theory, was able to give very convincing evidence. Although the mass hysteria has more creditable evidence, it is still not capable of being the exact cause for the Dancing Plague. The Dancing Plague may be thought of as a faux tale, but there are multiple records to prove that this occurrence is nowhere near a tale passed on through centuries. Unlike a history class or a math class or even reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn t stop her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in. She is an inspiration. Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school. This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not a mental disorder, but instead many students may use video games as a stress reducer by releasing all their energy that they gain during the day on the video games. These students would only feel that a videogame is more interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the concept within what the lesson is about. This would mean that the wolf pack would use less energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories. Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition. However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of hunting equals its benefits. His actions were good, not just because they were intended to be good for the whole society, but because society viewed them as being for the good. Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a flower would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing in a flower that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not have the ability to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of course, Webster s dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some confusion when addressing it. So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s dictionary, which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of suffering, misfortune, and wrongdoing. (Merriam Webster) Evil would be any intention to cause an undesirable effect upon one s self or on another person. So by saying that the intentions of a person are not to cause good we automatically assume that they are out to cause evil. For instance, religious and political leaders of Dr. Martin Luther King s time resisted all efforts on his part toward equality because he would be attempting to change an accepted way of life. • 29. The Theme of Violence in Cage Bird, Giving Blood, Sand... This semester in American Literature I have read and analyzed various literary works. The reoccurring theme throughout the works is violence. I have came to the conclusion that the significance of violence throughout the various works is that the group or individual singled out throughout the works is the victim of violence because the enemy has something to gain from the victim. The literary works, Caged Bird, Giving Blood, Sand Creek, and An Episode of War demonstrate this. For example, Caged Bird by Maya Angelou demonstrates how a personal struggle can become a form of violence. Angelou, an African American has a troubled childhood and as a result of her parents divorce she is sent to live with her grandmother at a young age. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically there have been racial tensions between white s and Native Americans. This resulted in massacres of Native American s. The violence reflected in this short story is the denial of the blood donation of the man and the massacre of the Native Americans by white s. The massacre was a gain for white s because it eliminated the Native American s who were seen as a threat to the white s way of life. Another example of discrimination resulting in violence is reflected in the poem Sand Creek, by Simon Ortiz. The poem is told from the point of view of an Indian who reflects on the brutality of Indian deaths by the Anglos. The poem is a historical reference to the Sand Creek massacre, which occurred in 1864 when a US military militia massacred a group of Indians who presented themselves as friendly near a fort. At the conclusion of the poem the author emphasizes that things will improve stating that, There are flowers, and new grass, and a spring wind rising from Sand Creek (2). The author also states that things will change for the people of Indian decent. The violence throughout the poem is the Anglos massacring the Indians just because they could. Finally, in An Episode of War, by Stephen Crane an army lieutenant experiences the reality of war first hand. In the short story, an army lieutenant is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F. The coughing grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!! This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare decisis, in the pursuit of justice. With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or ... (10) B) Outline two solutions to these problems and comment on their success (10) A) The problem of suffering has been around since the dawn of time, or as religious philosophers believe; since Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden. The first problem that arises from evil is that we believe that the God of classical theism has certain attributes. The types of natural evil that occur include things such as Floods, Earthquakes and the Tsunami that occurred recently. God would also not allow such things to happen in the world like natural evil, once again this questions the attribute of God that says that God is all powerful, the question that arises from this is that; Does God posses the power to actually stop natural evil from happening? There have been philosophers such as Hume, who came up with the inconsistent triad. It still has two attributes of the God of classical theism, however it has removed the attribute that says that God is all knowing and replaced it with evil exists. The explanation that Hume gave for this is that you can not have all three attributes together, he said that God must not know how to stop evil and suffering or because if he did then he would have stopped it already. It could be said that the level of suffering that somebody endures could make a difference for the problem of
