Habitat assessment
Groundcover and canopy cover were assessed in spring in conjunction with trapping. Ground cover
mean results (figure 1) show that bare ground cover was greatest in Linton and Enfield high severity
sites (61.4 and 52.1 % respectively) and least in the control sites (Enfield 0 % and Linton 0.71 %).
Fine litter cover was greatest in the control sites (72.5 % and 62.5 % in Linton and Enfield
respectively) and lowest in the high severity sites (20.1 % and16.4 %). Coarse litter cover was highest
in Linton low severity (7.1 %) and equal lowest in Linton high and Enfield low (0.71 %). Vegetation
cover was highest in Enfield control (50.4 %) and lowest in Linton high severity (17.1 %). Cryptogam
cover was highest in Linton low severity (8.9 %) and lowest in Linton high and Enfield low severity

We are replicating J.R. Stroop s original experiment The Stroop Effect (Stroop, 1935). The aim of the
study was to understand how automatic processing interferes with attempts to attend to sensory
information. The independent variable of our experiment was the three conditions, the congruent
words, the incongruent words, and the colored squares, and the dependent variable was the time that it
took participants to state the ink color of the list of words in each condition. We used repeated
measures for the experiment in order to avoid influence of extraneous variables. The participants were
16 17 years of age from Garland High School. The participants will be timed on how long it takes
them to say the color of the squares and the color of the words. The research was conducted in the
Math Studies class. The participants were aged 16 17 and were students at Garland High School. The
results showed that participants took the most time with the incongruent words.

creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are

operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why
operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and
Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1 2). What type of economic activity does aquaculture provide?
Essentially, aquaculture is considered as a primary industry in the economic sector. This means that
aquaculture s main service is the production of goods, in this case, aquatic life. Aquaculture is unique
as it does not harvest wild marine animals, compared to commercialized fishing. Instead, aquaculture
focuses on farming the species of aquatic creatures (Finfish and shellfish). This economic activity
provides a product of resource that is cultivated without damaging the population of aquatic life found
naturally in the wild and provides a different alternative when it comes to the production of the
renewable resources of fish in Canada. In Canadian aquaculture, there are a variety of methods

When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around
energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked,
nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their inception,
with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy with poor
public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in their country. With the
potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it, many are
resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with historical
catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake.
In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is
already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the environment
and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal plants emit more
radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants release 100 times more
radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within coal are trace amounts of the
two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it produces fly ash, which

It s not fair! She s the most important person in the world and her family is living in poverty. If our
mother is so important to science, why can t we get health insurance? (Skloot 168). This passage plays
such an important role because it demonstrates not only the effects of poverty in the children s lives,
but also the lack of ethics shown by the hospital and its employees. In just this one passage, it
embodies a whole series of wrongdoings that this book is centered around. Hopkins unlawfully took
Henrietta s cells, then they became distributed for a profit, a profit the family received no part of. In
fact the family didn t even know the cells were taken until 25 years later. A whole 25 years they had
been going without for many medical needs while others were making a profit hand over fist from her
cells. Skloot s book encapsulates this problem and understanding it plays a key role in understanding
not only the Lacks children s anger, but also Skloot s purpose for writing the book the way she did.
Ethics is told to be the concept of right and wrong, a type of moral compass that helps guide people
through life. No one is thought to be held to a higher standard of ethics than doctors, but to the people
in the public wards, doctors were merely scientists, experimenting on the people as a misconstrued
