The Causes Of Veteran Homelessness
The United States of America rests on the shoulders of our brave men and women. It is unfortunate
that once a soldier returns home, he or she has the strong likelihood that a roof, four walls, and a job
will not be waiting. It is the responsibility of the people of this great nation to provide the support that
these veterans need to survive in this world; they would help us survive in theirs. If goals are put in
place and there is enough effort and power backing up the motor of these goals, then accomplishing an
end to veteran homelessness will occur. This paper will examine the causes of veteran homelessness
and how to cease and prevent veteran homelessness from happening and reoccurring. According to the
National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, as of 2014, 13.2% of the American
population was homeless. Additionally, it was found that another 3.5 million people were strained to
finding shelter in parks, under bridges, or sleeping in cars. Of this 13.2%, 23% of those suffering were
United States veterans. The reason as to why veterans become homeless is due to war related
disabilities, such as physical disabilities, mental detriment, posttraumatic stress disorder, and an
inability to reorganize themselves back into civilian life, noted in Homeless Veterans: Perspectives on
Social Services Use. In April of 2008, the U.S. Department of Labor released the unemployment rates
of those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 and the percentage of

Ramps Height
This investigation seeks to determine the distance that a marble can travel after leaving a ramp with
retrospect to the ramps height. This experiment wished to find the relationship between the height of
the ramp and the distance that the marble will travel from the end of the ramp (Diagram 1, value d).
The ramp is positioned on top of a bench with the height of the ramp being the dependent variable.
The reason that this subject is important is because it demonstrates a wide understanding of linear
motion. Secondly, this scenario has some extremely relevant physics components present in many
fields of experience, for example calculating the projectile of an unguided missile, or calculating how
particular objects are going to be affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the experiment is undertaken the distance from the ramp to the landing position of the ball is
recorded (value d in diagram 1). This means that the formula, Xv= X1+Vvt +12at2 can be used to find
the vertical component, however, (t) time is required for this formula. Using the equation v=dtthe time
can be found. vt=dt(dt=height of the table) t=dv Both the distance (d) and velocity (v) are known so
they can be substituted into the equation to find time (t). Going back to the original equation Xv=
X1+Vvt +12at2 the known values can be added to the equation, Xv= X1+Vvt +12at2where X1=
initial position and Vv= initial velocity
∴Xv=12at2(Note X1= 0 and Vv = 0)
This equation now has to be derived to calculate the vertical velocity.
Vv=at
The vertical component therefore has a velocity of the acceleration (gravity = 9.8ms^ 1) multiplied by
the time.
With two sides of a right angle triangle being known a2+b2=c2can be used to find the last velocity. a =

The Importance Of Characters In Fifth Business
In the novel Fifth Business, characters mark new chapters of their lives by changing their names.
Names are used to identify people in society and they are a symbol of self. The characters, Dunstan,
Boy and Paul all change their names, Dunstable to Dunstan, Percy to Boy, and Paul to Magnus.
Despite the characters attempts to change their names and personalities, Davies reveals that people
will always maintain their true identities.
Throughout the novel, Dunstan plays the role of Fifth Business even when he embarks onto a new
chapter of his life. Dunstan s major role in this book is revealing to Paul that the cause for his mother s
insanity was because Boy threw a snowball with a stone in it that hit his mother. He says, Dunstan
Ramsay counselled against revelation, but Fifth Business would not hear. Yes, guilt. Staunton and I
robbed your mother of her sanity (Davies 263). In this quote, Dunstan claims that he is Fifth Business
because he provided information that led Paul to kill Boy. Paul was always told his birth was the cause
of his mother s insanity. Her madness is what made him leave Deptford and caused him trouble during
his childhood. Later on in the conversation Dunstan says, Fifth Business insisted on being heard again.
Would this jog your memory? I asked, handing him my old paperweight. (Davies 264). Dunstan
proves he is Fifth Business again by revealing the stone that was placed inside of the snowball. This is
very important because Paul now

RESULTS
Habitat assessment
Groundcover and canopy cover were assessed in spring in conjunction with trapping. Ground cover
mean results (figure 1) show that bare ground cover was greatest in Linton and Enfield high severity
sites (61.4 and 52.1 % respectively) and least in the control sites (Enfield 0 % and Linton 0.71 %).
Fine litter cover was greatest in the control sites (72.5 % and 62.5 % in Linton and Enfield
respectively) and lowest in the high severity sites (20.1 % and16.4 %). Coarse litter cover was highest
in Linton low severity (7.1 %) and equal lowest in Linton high and Enfield low (0.71 %). Vegetation
cover was highest in Enfield control (50.4 %) and lowest in Linton high severity (17.1 %). Cryptogam
cover was highest in Linton low severity (8.9 %) and lowest in Linton high and Enfield low severity
(0.71 %). Both Enfield and Linton control sites had mean cryptogam cover of 2.5 %.

Body Image And Privilege Research Paper
Reflective Essay
Throughout my years in the Women and Gender Studies program here at the University Of Toledo, I
have enhanced my mental capacity in many ways. Being introduced to the program was a gift.
Feminist concepts, ideals, methodologies, understanding myths, stereotypes was beneficial to my
overall success at Toledo. Using the theories and critical thinking skills that were essential to the
program in my professional and personal life helped shape me into the strong woman that I am.
Intersectionality, body image, and privilege are three major themes that will be ingrained in me as I
continue on my collegiate journey.
Intersectionality is described as the integration and connection of a person s race, class, gender, and
socioeconomic status all combined into one. With all of these things taken place in one s life, they can
cause an extreme strain on a person s livelihood. This concept has been consistently brought up in
majority of my classes. Creating a dynamic where the person will or can be judged and harmed
because of all the things that have been ascribed to them. Using this concept as I go forth in my
educational journey will be necessary because it will allow me to better understand someone s
perspective. This will allow me to be more effective when I need to assist them in any services. ...

While in the Women and the Body course, I was able to dissect the images, constraints, and beliefs
associated with the woman s body. The debate over body image originated from patriarchal
constraints, deeming that women have to fit into an ideal of womanhood. A woman s body image is
suppose to be a direct link to the man she is with. She should have childbearing hips, a stature that is
associated in being motherly, and breasts to breast feed the children. With that it grew into using man
made objects to reinforce the patriarchal power about body

An Essay On The Movie Riley
The movie is about a young girl named Riley. Riley was very playful as a kid playing with her
imaginary friend, running around the house and making a mess. She is the only child her parents have
and they tried everything to make her happy. She is also the source of happiness for her parents, but
she is too young to know that. Her father loved her so much that he played monkey faces with her all
the time even when she was old.
Riley s family lived in Minnesota, a cold state that was always white during the winter due to snow.
The only sport, Riley enjoyed playing was ice hockey. Her mother always told her to take care not to
hurt herself during a game while her father told her to play hard. Her parents were her biggest loyal
fans. They even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Riley s negative attitude started when they were driving to their new house because the journey was
long and boring. California was different it was densely populated and the houses there were small.
When she enters her new home for the first time. The writer of the movie shows us how riles mind
works. They are five main key players that control Riley s emotions. Joy has been always glowing and
was responsible for making her happy. Sadness was dark and always had a sad face, she was the
opposite of joy and was always sad about everything. Anger always had a bad temper. Disgust was
always picky since she was a kid, she has always refused to eat vegetables. Fear was the last one of
the five who worked in the headquarters.
Riley s first day of school was going good until sadness touched a joyful memory of her playing
hockey until she became emotional and started crying. In her head it was a different world. There were
a lot of memories stared at her head both short term and long term. Most of her memories were
colored yellow meaning it was joyful. Collection of good memories form islands of imagination, there
is one for family, good times that she shared with her parents.

Analysis Of Teenage Wasteland By Anne Tyler
Parenting is a very tough job, and not all people are fully suited for it. It is an especially burdensome
job when the kid that is being raised is someone who does not perform well in school and hinders
authority. The task described here is one Daisy has to deal with in Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler.
Daisy, a mother of two, who is filled with a lot of tentative thoughts, must make choices to raise her
troublesome son Donny correctly. However, when she is constantly doing all the wrong things to
amend her son s demons, it leads him down a spiraling path of trouble both academically and
mentally. Daisy is responsible for both Donny s academic and life failures as she does not grasp an
understanding of her son s issues, lets everyone else parent her son for her, and is too harsh on Donny
which causes him to abhor authority.
Daisy is naive, insecure, and does not understand what Donny is going through, and her doubtful
thoughts influences all of Daisy s actions to be ones that would help Donny s failure. Daisy sends
Donny down a bad path by not having an understanding of her son which leads her to employ people
to fix her son for her. Daisy gives in to what the school told her is best when, It was arranged that
Donny would visit a psychologist. Mr Lanham knew just the person. He would set this boy straight he
said...Daisy held her stomach in and gave Mr. Lanham a firm, responsible handshake (Tyler 288). Her
self doubt and ignorance here allows other people tell her what is best for her son, and she blindly
listens. Daisy thinks to herself that she was a failure earlier in the meeting, and it seems she wants to
do whatever would fix her son. She even physically displays insecurity when she gets up to shake Mr.
Lanham s hand. She puts no thought into what is best for Donny and lets other people arrange sessions
for her son. In another instance, Daisy s insecurities allows Donny to fail by letting other people tell
her what the issue with her son is, which they were mostly wrong about. After Daisy gets a call from
Donny s teacher Miss Evans about her son failing school, she calls up Cal for him to say that it was
the teacher s fault and grades come in time. To which Daisy thought, When she hung up, it was

Social Sin Invictus
Invictus is a movie based on the real life story of how Nelson Mandela united the country of South
Africa through the sport of rugby. To give some background, before Nelson Mandela became the first
black president of South Africa (which made his presidency very historic), he had been a prisoner on
Robben Island for almost 30 years while South Africa was under the cruel regime of Apartheid.
Apartheid was introduced in 1948 by the white National Party government to make segregation
between whites and blacks legal. The non white majority of the population was forced to live in
separate areas and used separate facilities. Contact between whites and non whites was very restricted.
Marriage between races was banned by the government. Blacks were ... Show more content on

de Klerk. When Mandela was elected president, he inherited a country that was still pretty fresh out of
50 years of Apartheid rule. Attitudes by whites and blacks don t change overnight just because there is
a new president. There was huge racial tensions and rampant poverty to deal with. Crime rates were
also high. Mandela was very concerned about violence erupting between whites and non whites.
Rather than live with bitterness and resentment over his imprisonment and the terrible treatment of the
black population, Mandela chose the route of forgiveness and looked for a way to bring the country
back together. Sport can be enjoyed by all parts of the population whether rich or poor, black or white,
educated or not. When Mandela publicly supported the mostly white Springbok rugby team, as a black
president, he was leading by example. What he did was completely unexpected both in the eyes of
whites and non whites. He gained the trust of whites and helped blacks see that the only way to move
forward in a positive way was to forgive the sins of the past and work for reconciliation. When the
black President came out on the field for the World Cup final wearing the Springbok jersey in front of
a mostly white crowd (and in front of the world via TV) he put South Africa on a journey that would
change the country forever. He demonstrated that

Florida Black Bear Research Paper
In 1997, while bow hunting in the Ocala National Forest. I saw two large male bears eating grubs and
one of them caught and begun to eat a Cotton Tail rabbit. They were approximately ½ mile from each
other. It seemed like the very second that the bear with the rabbit tore it apart, I saw the other bear lift
his nose to the air and was at a full run and was to the other bear within a minute. The first bear was
bigger, but the second bear seemed to be hungrier and quickly took the remains of the rabbit away and
out of sight. Thinking that it was a waste of time to remain in the area I returned to my jeep to head

twelve to twenty thousand black bears roamed throughout Florida.
Since then, between deforestation, unregulated hunting prior to 1950 s, habitat loss and habitat

Queen Elizabeth 1
Elizabeth I of England was the queen for forty five years. She was often referred to as Good Queen
Bess, Gloriana, or the Virgin Queen. During her reign, Elizabeth was imprisoned, threatened by
conspiracy, dealt with impending warfare, and had to answer to the question of marriage so she and
her country would survive. She had endured so much and brought so much culture during her reign
that it s not surprising that her long reign is called the Elizabethan Era, or the Golden Age of England.
Elizabeth Tudor, better known as Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland, was the last ruler the
Tudor dynasty and is considered one of the greatest rulers of England. She was the only child of Anne

This gave Catholic countries, such as France and Spain, another reason to attack England and also
brought on threats to the Queen, along with assassinations and attempts to overthrow her so that her
cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots, could be queen. As many Catholics tried to take the throne away from
Elizabeth I, she decided to imprison Mary, Queen of Scots for twenty years before beheading her.
Since Elizabeth I was excommunicated, she was forced to impose harsher laws on Catholics and
helped Protestants in Spanish Holland rebel. This made the Spanish Armada attempt to invade
England in 1588, but the English navy was able to defeat them. Many say that weather conditions had
to do with the victory, along with the fact that Sir Francis Drake was a sea dog that was in the English
navy at the time. Elizabeth I would also use her single status to deal with these attacks and to get out
of major warfare with Spain or France. She would often threaten to marry foes of other s and she
would court many men, including Eric XIV of Sweden, Archduke Charles of Austria, Henry, Duke of
Anjou, and Francis, Duke of Anjou and Alençon. She was able to navigate through many political and
foreign affairs through these courtships, which kept England out of trouble. Later, Elizabeth I was
considered to be married to her country, which made her extremely popular with her

Economic Models Are False And So Government Should Ignore...
Question 1. Economic models are false and so government should ignore their predictions. Explain,
discuss and evaluate the accuracy of this statement. Answer 1: Economic models are the imaginary
concept which expresses economic procedure by using variables or quantitative correlations. It is a
simply method which uses mathematical and other technical aspects to show complex processes. The
statement stated above is false because with the help of the economic models, government can predict
about the future economy and make some changes in economic behaviours to achieve highest possible
outcome. Economy is an unstable factor and it has to be monitored to understand and predict for the
future benefit that is where the economic models are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond the PPF line, point E is unattainable because resources are limited to get the further outcome.
At point D , the resources are not utilized fully which will creates the situation of unemployment, less
economic growth and many other economic impact. Any point inside the PPF line is inefficient as
either resources are not used fully or misallocated. Opportunity cost is the choice made to get
something by giving up another thing (Nash, n.d., para. 3). Here government have two items to give
emphasis computer and television. If government choose to produce computer and wants to make
digitalized study system then it has to forgone the television. In the above figure, moving from point B
to A, the quantity of television production increased by 2 thousands whereas the quantity of computer
production decreased by 3 thousands. The opportunity cost of 2 thousand televisions is 3 thousand
computers (Besnek, 2017, slide 3). One of these television cost 1.5 of computers production.
Government must have to understand which the most important thing to produce is and how to utilize
the available resources efficiently to achieve the maximum benefit for the country. This PPF model
shows that, government have to accept and apply the concept of predication in order to properly utilize
the resources and get the maximum benefit. Question 2. Using the economics or

Venice Economy Benefits
To benefit my business and also yours, it would be in everyone s best interest to visit one of the five
major city states to better the wealth of both of us as merchants so that you can trade more and so that
I have more to trade with, and specifically of what. Venice is a city with no roads. The houses are built
along the canals. This means that it is of easy access to those trading by sea to the Mediterranean
because they will not have to travel inland to trade. Although Venice itself does not have a natural
resources, nearby cities have been conquered for farmland, so there are little natural resources. Venice
is the center of trade because of its location. The currency here by gold coins, called the ducat, has a
reliable worth and is valued everywhere. There is a strong economy because of the amount of trade
occurring here. The population is obviously a well enough amount because of all of the trade
occurring here. A labor skill needed here are mercenaries because Venice does not have an army of its
own. People from all over the world come here to trade, so it is to be assumed that many different
languages are spoken because of the trading by so many different areas. This city itself is a cultural

The Benefits Of Sun Exposure In The Sun
Everyone encounters sun exposure every day of their lives. This occurs in all parts of the spectrum
ranging from high levels of exposure to lower levels of exposure. The high end may include going to
the beach, playing in the park, or playing basketball with friends. The lower end includes taking
walking to the car, shopping at a strip mall, or going to the mailbox. Being exposed to the sun can
have many effects like tans, sunburns, and diseases. However, many people are unaware of the
benefits of sun exposure. This leads to the main question: How much sun is too much sun? The
average person should spend 5 30 minutes in the sun twice a week. This helps increase vitamin D
levels, decrease the chance of skin cancer, and reduce the risk of many diseases. Being outside in the
sun is better for a person s overall health and well being.
Spending time in the sun causes an increase in vitamin D levels. According to the Assistant Professor
at Touro University, Kim Pfotenhaur, wearing sunscreen prevents this vitamin gain. Pfotenhaur states
that sunscreen essentially nullifies the body s ability to produce vitamin D, ( Sunscreen... ). The article
goes into further detail explaining how it is healthy to have unprotected exposure to the sun. Vitamin
D is necessary for normal body functions like cell growth and proper immune functioning. A study

Abstract
We are replicating J.R. Stroop s original experiment The Stroop Effect (Stroop, 1935). The aim of the
study was to understand how automatic processing interferes with attempts to attend to sensory
information. The independent variable of our experiment was the three conditions, the congruent
words, the incongruent words, and the colored squares, and the dependent variable was the time that it
took participants to state the ink color of the list of words in each condition. We used repeated
measures for the experiment in order to avoid influence of extraneous variables. The participants were
16 17 years of age from Garland High School. The participants will be timed on how long it takes
them to say the color of the squares and the color of the words. The research was conducted in the
Math Studies class. The participants were aged 16 17 and were students at Garland High School. The
results showed that participants took the most time with the incongruent words.

Daniel Story Erika Quotes
In the book Daniel Story, by Carol Matas, the character Erika is admirable because she is creative,
determined and above all she is brave. Erika is someone I would look up to. She goes through a lot,
she still survives the Nazi s, but dies from illness. Erika is creative because she makes her own music.
In Lodz she had her own violin and played her music in their apartment, untill the Nazi s took it away
from her. Another reason Erika is creative is because she came up with her own speech in Lodz. The
speech was very inspiring and even made Daniel, Erika s brother, and Rosa, Erika s best friend,
speechless. The speech read I m ashamed of you, too. Don t you see? This is the way Nazis think.

Lin Manuel Miranda s musical Hamilton and Kurt Vonnegut s book Slaughterhouse Five were written
almost fifty years of each other. Furthermore, the time periods they were set in were quite different
when it came to equality for women. Still, both Eliza and Valencia live within the same social
contexts; they are women of the upper class in America. Although, their values and performances were
remarkably diverse. While Valencia surrendered to the domestic realm during her lifetime, Eliza used
her potential for a greater good prior to Hamilton s passing. Also, Eliza had personality, whereas
Valencia was made out to be monotonous. These differences, however, can be traced back to the
authors of these pieces. How is it that a musical set to be placed when our country was discovered was

Truth and Troop Hardships in a Chapter of The Things They...
Throughout Tim O Brien s short work How to tell a true war story O Brien has two reoccurring
themes. One is of the desensitization of the troops during their hardship regarding the events of the
Vietnam War, and the other is of the concept of truth. Truth may seem simple enough to explain, but is
in fact endowed with many layers. The story is chalked full of contradictions, as well as lies, and
embellishments, and yet O Brien claims that these are the truth. The truth, whether it be war or society
s, is in fact a concept that can be conveyed many times and in many ways. Whereas each is
independently untrue, the combined collaboration of these half truths is in essence the only real truth.
People in such intense situations, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the morale and the emotional tolerance of the troops has been pushed to cope with unbearable
times, they may have to insert more facts that are completely false, so that not only does the listener
feel, but the story teller feels as well. All you can do is tell it one more time, patiently, adding and
subtracting, making up a few things to get at the real truth, (684) or feeling. So in essence, this
embellished half truth of a story is as true as the facts from a history book bringing us one step closer
to the ultimate truth.
The personal witnessing of events is a critical point of view in telling a true story. It may not be the
entire truth, but it is the truth, as it seemed to the individual. The ideas get mixed up; you tend to miss
a lot. And then afterward, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal feeling of what
seemed to happen, which makes the story seem untrue. But in fact represents the truth exactly how it
seemed. (677) Such as is the case of Curt Lemon s death. Rat Kiley was having a good time, laughing
with his best friend when Lemon stepped into the sunlight. In that instant he must have thought that

It was just another day with a baseball game to play in the afternoon. I woke up and said goodbye to
my Mom as she was leaving for work. She told me that she had to work a double and that she wouldn

didn t phase me at all. Since my Mom was working, she doesn t like me going out. So I stayed in the
house until I left for my game. I grabbed my bag and hopped on my bike and started to ride to the
field. When I got to the field I discovered I was the first one there, as usual, so I started to stretch.
Coach Rob pulled up just as I finished stretching.

Many years ago in a little town on a dirt road where people lived in tiny shacks and got food from
roadside markets lived a bear. This bear was small, almost smaller than a penguin, but he was 15 years
old. He was very loud but could be sneaky and smart. He has been known by people for years because
of his cruelty. The bear stole from the markets day and night. He also would pickpocket people and he
got away with it. People were scared of him even though he was small. Well, one day he went to the

George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay
Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s
Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of
Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations
that occur among animals. The state of communism that Marx and Friedrich Engels describe is where
the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one
is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly
contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his
dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The
Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of
communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass
through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they
remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal.
The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men
with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would
overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals
emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However,

Rapa Nui Body Modification
Body modification has been found in practically all cultures throughout history. The most common
type of body modification is the act of tattooing. This act includes injecting ink or dye into the skin
with a needle to leave a permanent symbol. The reasons behind why tattooing has come to be is
variable from culture to culture. Some see it as a way to symbolize your political status, while others
see it as a form of medical treatment. The Rapa Nui people are found on what is commonly known as
Easter Island. The Island was remotely barren with volcanic peaks and rock based soil, with few
shrubs and little grass. An isolated country, the Rapa Nui were not in contact with any groups until
their European discovery in 1862 with Chilean dictatorship soon after (Schiefenhovel, 2016). Their
form of economy did not come from outside trade. Instead, the Rapa Nui people cultivated on small
plots of land with the outside of food source of fish. Because of their small economies, there became
an occupational based hierarchy. Those who were stone carvers or fishermen held one of the highest
positions within the society (Schiefnhovel, 2016). Their political system followed a chiefdom. Their
high chief was believed to come from their islander s founder, and was passed down from father to

Greenhouse Gases And Its Impact On The Climate
Greenhouse Gases and its impact on the Climate
All over the world scientist have witnessed a serious of bizarre events occur. From the vanishing of
coral reefs in the tropics to melting ice caps in the polar hemispheres. These are all sure signs of some
of the strange phenomenon s that are accompanied by climate change. According to the Environmental
Protection Agency, Climate change is referred to as, A significant change in the climate that lasts for
extended periods over time. These changes include; an increase or decrease in Earths temperatures or
an alter in wind patterns. These changes may occur over several decades and in some cases even
century s. (EPA)
Humanity has contributed greatly to Earths climate. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolutions,
our atmosphere has been impacted with large amounts of greenhouse gases. Human activities such as;
using automobiles, burning fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal), and farming livestock have pumped large
amounts of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane into our ozone. The choices we make today
have a dangerous domino effect on many of Earth s biomes and species. For example, burning fossil
fuels can lead to rising temperatures, which melts the polar ice caps, causing earth s sea levels to rise
at an alarming rate, leaving many species to go endangered or extinct. Although we don t always see
these changes suddenly, future generations with be greatly affected. Those who leave near the coastal

Chaucer Characters In Canterbury Tales
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales General Prologue , 29 pilgrims plan to journey from
London to Canterbury and back to worship at the shrine of St. Thomas a Beckett, Maryland. Each
pilgrim agreeing to tell two stories on the way there and two stories on the way back. Amongst these
character s in the General Prologue we have three estates that separate them called the; Aristocrats,
Clergy, and the Workers, each responsible for their own duties. In the following paragraphs we will be
focusing more on the estate of the Aristocrats than that of the other estates. The estate of the
Aristocrats who are uniquely made up of the Sergeant at Law, the Franklin, the Doctor of Medicine,
his Pharmacists, and the honorable Knight. Taking a look at and evaluating how the majorities actions,
dress, and behavior within the prologue reflect how they are hypocritical to the value of their estate.
While only one character truly adheres to those values of their estate and is thus worthy of respect.
The first of many of these hypocrites that we run into is the Sergeant at Law who rather than adhering
to the oath of the aristocrats of upholding justice and protecting the weak, prey s on those who are in

suspicious actions as Chaucer states, So great a land buyer elsewhere was none; / He would directly

Foreign Direct Investment As A Key Component Of Economic...
Foreign Direct Investment as a key component of economic globalization could play a prominent role
in stimulating economic growth through capital formation, technology transfer and enhancing
employment opportunities in the developing countries like Nepal. Nepal and India both have
liberalized foreign investment policies that would help promote FDI in Nepal (Dahal et.al. 2004).
Despite significant liberalization of the foreign investment regime and the introduction of attractive
investment incentives, Nepal s achievements, both in terms of the volume of FDI and its
developmental impact, failed to match national expectations (Athukorala, et.al., 2006) The country has
not been able to draw on the potential technological and other contributions that FDI can make to the
process of development (Pant, 2010). A restrictive FDI regime, high import tariffs, exit barriers for
firms, stringent labor laws, poor quality infrastructure, centralized decision making processes, and
lack of export processing zones and Export Trading House make Nepal an unattractive investment
location (Regmi, 2012). Nepal s FDI potential is heavily under exploited, despite the fact that the
country offers a huge potential not only for market seeking investors but also resource seeking ones
(Adhikari, 2013a).. Moreover, Nepal is the worst performer in South Asia (and one of the worst ones
in the world) in terms of attracting FDI (Adhikari, 2013b). The country s insurgency period in the past

Aquaculture Is The Cultivation Of Sea Creatures ( Finfish...
Background What is Aquaculture? Aquaculture is the wide term used to describe the cultivation of sea
creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are
practised in all provinces. However, if we look at the species each province produces (Figure 1 1),
operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why
operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and
Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1 2). What type of economic activity does aquaculture provide?
Essentially, aquaculture is considered as a primary industry in the economic sector. This means that
aquaculture s main service is the production of goods, in this case, aquatic life. Aquaculture is unique
as it does not harvest wild marine animals, compared to commercialized fishing. Instead, aquaculture
focuses on farming the species of aquatic creatures (Finfish and shellfish). This economic activity
provides a product of resource that is cultivated without damaging the population of aquatic life found
naturally in the wild and provides a different alternative when it comes to the production of the
renewable resources of fish in Canada. In Canadian aquaculture, there are a variety of methods
involving the farming of aquatic life because of location. The oldest method is with the net pen system
(Figure 1 3). This type of aquaculture involves containing fish in a net that suspends around

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Energy Essay
When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around
energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked,
nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their inception,
with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy with poor
public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in their country. With the
potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it, many are
resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with historical
catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake.
In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is
already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the environment
and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal plants emit more
radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants release 100 times more
radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within coal are trace amounts of the
two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it produces fly ash, which
concentrates the uranium and thorium at up to 10 times their original levels (Hvistendahl).
But the negatives of coal don t need to be addressed

It s not fair! She s the most important person in the world and her family is living in poverty. If our
mother is so important to science, why can t we get health insurance? (Skloot 168). This passage plays
such an important role because it demonstrates not only the effects of poverty in the children s lives,
but also the lack of ethics shown by the hospital and its employees. In just this one passage, it
embodies a whole series of wrongdoings that this book is centered around. Hopkins unlawfully took
Henrietta s cells, then they became distributed for a profit, a profit the family received no part of. In
fact the family didn t even know the cells were taken until 25 years later. A whole 25 years they had
been going without for many medical needs while others were making a profit hand over fist from her
cells. Skloot s book encapsulates this problem and understanding it plays a key role in understanding
not only the Lacks children s anger, but also Skloot s purpose for writing the book the way she did.
Ethics is told to be the concept of right and wrong, a type of moral compass that helps guide people
through life. No one is thought to be held to a higher standard of ethics than doctors, but to the people
in the public wards, doctors were merely scientists, experimenting on the people as a misconstrued
form of payment. Patients of the public ward

  • 2. The Causes Of Veteran Homelessness The United States of America rests on the shoulders of our brave men and women. It is unfortunate that once a soldier returns home, he or she has the strong likelihood that a roof, four walls, and a job will not be waiting. It is the responsibility of the people of this great nation to provide the support that these veterans need to survive in this world; they would help us survive in theirs. If goals are put in place and there is enough effort and power backing up the motor of these goals, then accomplishing an end to veteran homelessness will occur. This paper will examine the causes of veteran homelessness and how to cease and prevent veteran homelessness from happening and reoccurring. According to the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, as of 2014, 13.2% of the American population was homeless. Additionally, it was found that another 3.5 million people were strained to finding shelter in parks, under bridges, or sleeping in cars. Of this 13.2%, 23% of those suffering were United States veterans. The reason as to why veterans become homeless is due to war related disabilities, such as physical disabilities, mental detriment, posttraumatic stress disorder, and an inability to reorganize themselves back into civilian life, noted in Homeless Veterans: Perspectives on Social Services Use. In April of 2008, the U.S. Department of Labor released the unemployment rates of those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 and the percentage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ramps Height This investigation seeks to determine the distance that a marble can travel after leaving a ramp with retrospect to the ramps height. This experiment wished to find the relationship between the height of the ramp and the distance that the marble will travel from the end of the ramp (Diagram 1, value d). The ramp is positioned on top of a bench with the height of the ramp being the dependent variable. The reason that this subject is important is because it demonstrates a wide understanding of linear motion. Secondly, this scenario has some extremely relevant physics components present in many fields of experience, for example calculating the projectile of an unguided missile, or calculating how particular objects are going to be affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the experiment is undertaken the distance from the ramp to the landing position of the ball is recorded (value d in diagram 1). This means that the formula, Xv= X1+Vvt +12at2 can be used to find the vertical component, however, (t) time is required for this formula. Using the equation v=dtthe time can be found. vt=dt(dt=height of the table) t=dv Both the distance (d) and velocity (v) are known so they can be substituted into the equation to find time (t). Going back to the original equation Xv= X1+Vvt +12at2 the known values can be added to the equation, Xv= X1+Vvt +12at2where X1= initial position and Vv= initial velocity ∴Xv=12at2(Note X1= 0 and Vv = 0) This equation now has to be derived to calculate the vertical velocity. Vv=at The vertical component therefore has a velocity of the acceleration (gravity = 9.8ms^ 1) multiplied by the time. With two sides of a right angle triangle being known a2+b2=c2can be used to find the last velocity. a = 2ghr b = at t = dtv v= ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Characters In Fifth Business In the novel Fifth Business, characters mark new chapters of their lives by changing their names. Names are used to identify people in society and they are a symbol of self. The characters, Dunstan, Boy and Paul all change their names, Dunstable to Dunstan, Percy to Boy, and Paul to Magnus. Despite the characters attempts to change their names and personalities, Davies reveals that people will always maintain their true identities. Throughout the novel, Dunstan plays the role of Fifth Business even when he embarks onto a new chapter of his life. Dunstan s major role in this book is revealing to Paul that the cause for his mother s insanity was because Boy threw a snowball with a stone in it that hit his mother. He says, Dunstan Ramsay counselled against revelation, but Fifth Business would not hear. Yes, guilt. Staunton and I robbed your mother of her sanity (Davies 263). In this quote, Dunstan claims that he is Fifth Business because he provided information that led Paul to kill Boy. Paul was always told his birth was the cause of his mother s insanity. Her madness is what made him leave Deptford and caused him trouble during his childhood. Later on in the conversation Dunstan says, Fifth Business insisted on being heard again. Would this jog your memory? I asked, handing him my old paperweight. (Davies 264). Dunstan proves he is Fifth Business again by revealing the stone that was placed inside of the snowball. This is very important because Paul now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Body Image And Privilege Research Paper Reflective Essay Throughout my years in the Women and Gender Studies program here at the University Of Toledo, I have enhanced my mental capacity in many ways. Being introduced to the program was a gift. Feminist concepts, ideals, methodologies, understanding myths, stereotypes was beneficial to my overall success at Toledo. Using the theories and critical thinking skills that were essential to the program in my professional and personal life helped shape me into the strong woman that I am. Intersectionality, body image, and privilege are three major themes that will be ingrained in me as I continue on my collegiate journey. Intersectionality is described as the integration and connection of a person s race, class, gender, and socioeconomic status all combined into one. With all of these things taken place in one s life, they can cause an extreme strain on a person s livelihood. This concept has been consistently brought up in majority of my classes. Creating a dynamic where the person will or can be judged and harmed because of all the things that have been ascribed to them. Using this concept as I go forth in my educational journey will be necessary because it will allow me to better understand someone s perspective. This will allow me to be more effective when I need to assist them in any services. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The debate over body image originated from patriarchal constraints, deeming that women have to fit into an ideal of womanhood. It is an especially burdensome job when the kid that is being raised is someone who does not perform well in school and hinders authority. The task described here is one Daisy has to deal with in Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler. Daisy, a mother of two, who is filled with a lot of tentative thoughts, must make choices to raise her troublesome son Donny correctly. However, when she is constantly doing all the wrong things to amend her son s demons, it leads him down a spiraling path of trouble both academically and mentally. Daisy is responsible for both Donny s academic and life failures as she does not grasp an understanding of her son s issues, lets everyone else parent her son for her, and is too harsh on Donny which causes him to abhor authority. Daisy is naive, insecure, and does not understand what Donny is going through, and her doubtful thoughts influences all of Daisy s actions to be ones that would help Donny s failure. Daisy sends Donny down a bad path by not having an understanding of her son which leads her to employ people to fix her son for her. Daisy gives in to what the school told her is best when, It was arranged that Donny would visit a psychologist. Mr Lanham knew just the person. He would set this boy straight he said...Daisy held her stomach in and gave Mr. Lanham a firm, responsible handshake (Tyler 288). Her self doubt and ignorance here allows other people tell her what is best for her son, and she blindly listens. Daisy thinks to herself that she was a failure earlier in the meeting, and it seems she wants to do whatever would fix her son. She even physically displays insecurity when she gets up to shake Mr. Lanham s hand. She puts no thought into what is best for Donny and lets other people arrange sessions for her son. In another instance, Daisy s insecurities allows Donny to fail by letting other people tell her what the issue with her son is, which they were mostly wrong about. After Daisy gets a call from Donny s teacher Miss Evans about her son failing school, she calls up Cal for him to say that it was the teacher s fault and grades come in time. To give some background, before Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa (which made his presidency very historic), he had been a prisoner on Robben Island for almost 30 years while South Africa was under the cruel regime of Apartheid. Apartheid was introduced in 1948 by the white National Party government to make segregation between whites and blacks legal. Mandela was very concerned about violence erupting between whites and non whites. Rather than live with bitterness and resentment over his imprisonment and the terrible treatment of the black population, Mandela chose the route of forgiveness and looked for a way to bring the country back together. Sport can be enjoyed by all parts of the population whether rich or poor, black or white, educated or not. When Mandela publicly supported the mostly white Springbok rugby team, as a black president, he was leading by example. What he did was completely unexpected both in the eyes of whites and non whites. He gained the trust of whites and helped blacks see that the only way to move forward in a positive way was to forgive the sins of the past and work for reconciliation. • 27. George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations that occur among animals. The state of communism that Marx and Friedrich Engels describe is where the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal. The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. Some see it as a way to symbolize your political status, while others see it as a form of medical treatment. The Rapa Nui people are found on what is commonly known as Easter Island. The Island was remotely barren with volcanic peaks and rock based soil, with few shrubs and little grass. An isolated country, the Rapa Nui were not in contact with any groups until their European discovery in 1862 with Chilean dictatorship soon after (Schiefenhovel, 2016). Their form of economy did not come from outside trade. Instead, the Rapa Nui people cultivated on small plots of land with the outside of food source of fish. Because of their small economies, there became an occupational based hierarchy. Those who were stone carvers or fishermen held one of the highest positions within the society (Schiefnhovel, 2016). Their political system followed a chiefdom. Their high chief was believed to come from their islander s founder, and was passed down from father to son. Their religion was based around multiple Gods and spirits. They were broken up into two categories; high Gods and lesser Gods. These traditional beliefs included religious rituals and priests ... From the vanishing of coral reefs in the tropics to melting ice caps in the polar hemispheres. These are all sure signs of some of the strange phenomenon s that are accompanied by climate change. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Climate change is referred to as, A significant change in the climate that lasts for extended periods over time. These changes include; an increase or decrease in Earths temperatures or an alter in wind patterns. These changes may occur over several decades and in some cases even century s. (EPA) Humanity has contributed greatly to Earths climate. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolutions, our atmosphere has been impacted with large amounts of greenhouse gases. Human activities such as; using automobiles, burning fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal), and farming livestock have pumped large amounts of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane into our ozone. The choices we make today have a dangerous domino effect on many of Earth s biomes and species. For example, burning fossil fuels can lead to rising temperatures, which melts the polar ice caps, causing earth s sea levels to rise at an alarming rate, leaving many species to go endangered or extinct. • 40. Foreign Direct Investment As A Key Component Of Economic... Foreign Direct Investment as a key component of economic globalization could play a prominent role in stimulating economic growth through capital formation, technology transfer and enhancing employment opportunities in the developing countries like Nepal. Nepal and India both have liberalized foreign investment policies that would help promote FDI in Nepal (Dahal et.al. 2004). Despite significant liberalization of the foreign investment regime and the introduction of attractive investment incentives, Nepal s achievements, both in terms of the volume of FDI and its developmental impact, failed to match national expectations (Athukorala, et.al., 2006) The country has not been able to draw on the potential technological and other contributions that FDI can make to the process of development (Pant, 2010). A restrictive FDI regime, high import tariffs, exit barriers for firms, stringent labor laws, poor quality infrastructure, centralized decision making processes, and lack of export processing zones and Export Trading House make Nepal an unattractive investment location (Regmi, 2012). Nepal s FDI potential is heavily under exploited, despite the fact that the country offers a huge potential not only for market seeking investors but also resource seeking ones (Adhikari, 2013a).. • 41. Aquaculture Is The Cultivation Of Sea Creatures ( Finfish... Background What is Aquaculture? Aquaculture is the wide term used to describe the cultivation of sea creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are practised in all provinces. However, if we look at the species each province produces (Figure 1 1), operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1 2). What type of economic activity does aquaculture provide? Essentially, aquaculture is considered as a primary industry in the economic sector. This means that aquaculture s main service is the production of goods, in this case, aquatic life. Aquaculture is unique as it does not harvest wild marine animals, compared to commercialized fishing. Instead, aquaculture focuses on farming the species of aquatic creatures (Finfish and shellfish). This economic activity provides a product of resource that is cultivated without damaging the population of aquatic life found naturally in the wild and provides a different alternative when it comes to the production of the renewable resources of fish in Canada. In Canadian aquaculture, there are a variety of methods involving the farming of aquatic life because of location. The oldest method is with the net pen system (Figure 1 3). • 43. Nuclear Power And Nuclear Energy Essay When clean and renewable sources of energy are discussed, the focus is usually centered around energy productions like solar and wind. But an important source of energy is often overlooked, nuclear energy. The viability of nuclear power plants has been a topic of debate since their inception, with many both for and against it. Many countries are broadly opposed to nuclear energy with poor public opinion resulting in the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in their country. With the potential dangers of nuclear energy and the historical disasters that have accompanied it, many are resistant to continuing its development. For my paper I will be addressing why even with historical catastrophes, forgoing nuclear energy would be a mistake. In comparing different forms of energy, a comparison must be made between nuclear and coal. It is already widely known that the burning of coal in factories has a negative impact on the environment and is one of, if not the most, destructive. But what is not widely known is that coal plants emit more radiation into the environment than nuclear power plants. In fact, coal plants release 100 times more radiation than nuclear power plants (Hvistendahl). This is because within coal are trace amounts of the two radioactive elements uranium and thorium. When coal is burned it produces fly ash, which concentrates the uranium and thorium at up to 10 times their original levels (Hvistendahl). But the negatives of coal don t need to be addressed ...
