The United States Of America Website
In assignment one, I choose to explore the United States of America website. The website is divided
into seven sections including: government agencies and elected officials, health, housing and
community, jobs and unemployment, money and shopping, travel and immigration, and more services.
Government services and information are found by topic in the center of the website. The amazing
part is we can contact U.S government agencies and elected officials like the president, U.S Senators,
U.S. Representative, federal agencies, governor, state legislators, state agencies, local, and tribal. At

in the House of Representatives agencies to support to Congress. The president, vice president, and
the cabinet are what hold the executive branch and their key roles are carrying out and enforcing laws.
The judicial branch has interpreted the meaning of the laws, applies laws to individual cases, and

Informative Essay On Fake News
Bogus News
Everyone is tuned into the news because sometimes it has information the society needs to know. The
reason I say sometimes must do with the fact that not all news is trustworthy. Fake news is seen very
often and can be misinterpreted by many people. Well, what is fake news? I believe fake news is
information that is false and just out there to get attention to it. Behind fake news comes fake ideas,
most people s opinions on social media, and false predictions or sayings. Nowadays, anything could
be considered as news but I think it s important to identify the real news from the fake ones. That way
whatever anyone hears or sees will be reliable.
According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tan says, Fake ideas are more subtly dangerous than fake
facts. I agree with this statement because facts are facts and ideas can be changed several times. When
it comes to ideas, good or bad, some go beyond our expectations that we question ourselves, Will it
happen? or Will it work? . Anyone can come up with an idea and expose what they created to the
whole world. The Philippine Daily Inquirer states, ... they exaggerate an idea and twist its logic
beyond recognition. In fake news any nonsense is shown and said but, the public can t distinguish was
it true and what is false. If the news is about political issues or relates to something about the
government, it should be accurate. The article Real Confusion about Fake News, Kappan explains, At
present, we worry that

Significance Of The Sadler Report
The Sadler Report was a report written in 1832 by Michael Thomas Sadler. Its full name is The Sadler

of Western Civilization. The original text was published by House of Commons in 1832 but no exact

INTRODUCTION:

sector being described as oligopolistic and how oligopolistic markets often suffer from collusion. This
report will present findings if UK supermarket sector is oligopolistic or otherwise.
2.0 FINDINGS:
Market structures:
Market structures are classified with regards to the competition either their presence or absence. There
are different types of market structures: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly and
monopoly. The characteristics of the product or service and the number of suppliers determine the
market structure. This report will mainly focus on oligopoly market structure.
What is perfect competition?
In perfect competition market structure there are no barriers to entry into or exit out of the industry
and companies produce identical units of output that are not branded. By looking at these two key
features, it can be determined that UK supermarkets are not operating in that market structure.
What is monopolistic competition?
Many small companies operate in monopolistic competition market structure, including independently
owned and operated high street stores and restaurants. In the case of

Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity
Einstein s Theory of General Relativity originally came to him in 1907 while he was sitting in a chair
in the patent office in Bern. Lost in thought, he began wondering what it would be like to drop a ball
while falling off the side of a building (James Overdunn, Stanford Edu) Granting all this, he realized
that the person who was falling would not be able to detect the effect of gravity on the ball whereas an
observer could. Hence, he figured out the principle of Equivalence, that gravity pulling in one
direction is completely equivalent to the acceleration in the opposite direction. Nevertheless, his work
was only seen 8 years later when he published his theory in 1915. Another key factor in Einstein s
theory of general relativity is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sensitive gyroscopes orientations were being monitored in conjunction to a guide star. As a
result, this mission was deemed a success and backed up both of the two theories they were testing.
Importance Einstein s theories of Relativity were thought to be one of the most important discoveries
in the early 20th century. They led to many different discoveries that would have taken decades more
to discover without it, who knows some might not have even been discovered yet today. Some of the
discoveries that his theories led to are: Edward Hubble s observations that the stars and galaxies move
and that our universe is constantly changing and expanding (1924). Hubble based his calculations on
Einstein s General theory of relativity. What s funny is that Einstein actually rejected Hubble s theory
to support his own theory that the universe was static but had to in the end support and agree with
Hubble s theories since they were based on his own theories!(Burgess,Discovery) Alexander
Friedmann in 1922 used Einstein s equations of relativity to figure out the approximate age of the
universe at over 10 billion years old (we have now figured out it s around 13 billion years old, but he
was close) known as The Big Bang Theory . The theories of relativity also led to the discovery of the
existence of black holes and gravitational waves, which we are still researching today.

Summary Of John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
In John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden, one sees how past events such as the hostile interactions
between brothers, Adam and Charles, effects the attributes of future characters such as Cal. These
proceedings mold and form Cal s character, influencing not only his actions, but also his resonating
self condemnation at the end of the novel. Without these former occurrences, the reader would be
otherwise blind to the curse of the brothers as seen through the parable of Cain and Abel and to the
overriding theme of good versus evil presented not only in the brother s relationship but also in the
scenery of the Salinas Valley.
Furthermore, from the very beginning of the novel, it is obvious, that there was always a favorite
brother. In Adam s childhood, he persisted to be the favorite child of Cyrus Trask. Good hearted and
trusting of others, unlike his stolid and unemotional brother, Charles, Adam got a seemingly innocent
gift for his father s birthday, a pup, a gift that would service his father until the day he died. This
personalistic gift unlike Charles materialistic gift of a knife, for which Cyrus Trask never used or
admired, serves to be the wedge between the two and the ultimate reasoning behind the various
beatings Adam received as a child. This past occurrence unfortunately continues to the present and
forms Cal s character, a jealous son looking to gain his father s love, a heart already stolen by Aron, a
similar personality to that of his youthful father. However, although apparent as Adam s favorite might
be, it is Cal s decision on how to cope with this obvious choice. Likewise, to envious Charles, who
acted only out of violence, Cal acts out of anger, bringing his only brother to the place that would hurt
him the most, his mother s whorehouse. This reoccurring theme of good versus evil guides Cal future
decisions in terms of being the person he wants to be and refuting the overwhelming curse of brothers.
Moreover, just as Cal and Aron relate to their father and his brother, Charles, they also fall under a
biblical or brotherhood curse . The story of Cain and Abel depicts two brothers, one who s fueled by
jealousy (Cain), kills his brother over the favoritism God had on the two gifts presented

Their Eyes Were Watching God By Zora Neale A Feminist
In Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, despite actions that suggest otherwise,
Janie is neither feminist nor a role model due to her reliance on men and desperation for
independence. Throughout the novel, Janie requires the men and death to rescue her and give her the
ability to help herself. Janie s lack of feminism is represented in her passivity with men, and in how
she does not endeavor to protect herself against their abuse or oppression. Literary critic Trudier
Harris claims that Janie lacks the ability to determine her own fate. She is primarily passive, which is
anathema to feminist philosophy. Feminism is about women finding ways to determine their own
fates, to change their lives for their own... well being . However, ... Show more content on

Although one could perceive Janie s actions against Logan as actions done for her individual
prosperity, they are truly rooted in her reliance on men. When attempting to leave Logan, Janie is
unable to find the courage to do so until Jody comes to her and presents her with a better future. And
after she did leave Logan, Janie hurried out of the front gate and turned south. Even if Joe was not
there waiting for her, the change was bound to do her good. (). Her decision to take her newfound
freedom and head to Jody represents the pattern of Janie waiting for others to save her from her life.
Although she insinuates that her actions are for herself, her decisions were greatly influenced by the
future promised to her by Jody. Moreover, this action that she takes for herself is so overshadowed by
Jody s considerable influence on her, it is difficult to see it as done for anyone other than Jody and his
promises. This exemplifies Janie s reliance upon men in order make a change in her life because after
she left Logan her decision about her future was rooted in Jody s previous suggestions and promises.
It also disputes the claim that her choices were her own, and were done solely for her own well being.
Another counterargument that could arise in defense of Janie s feminism is when she stands up to
Jody. Janie makes a strong move for

our younger generation are becoming more and more brand conscious. He suggests that brand
conscious is the right choice of clothing. It helps them create an image and an identity for themselves.
Major factor which determining the choice of branded clothes comes from the influence made by the
peer and it helps them a lot in their socialization process. In addition to this, advertising act as an
important factor in communicating and delivering brand values and helps a company to establish a
good brand image in the mind of the public. Endorsement done by celebrity is another form of
advertising which helps in creating a huge impact in the minds of the consumer for branded garments
as they promote certain attributes like image, quality and status. The researcher recommends that to
retain loyalty of youth and to keep them satisfied with the brand, brand managers have to build and
emotional attachment and also make the brand special to have a long lasting competitive advantage.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Text Clustering
AUTHOR YEAR TITLE METHODOLOGY DISADVANTAGES
S.Murali Krishna et al., 2010 An Efficient Approach for Text Clustering Based on Frequent Itemsets
In the proposed research, we have devised an efficient approach for text clustering based on the
frequent itemsets. A renowned method, called Apriori algorithm is used for mining the frequent
itemsets. The mined frequent itemsets are then used for obtaining the partition, where the documents
are initially clustered without overlapping.
The access to a large quantity of textual documents turns out to be effectual because of the growth of
the digital libraries, web, technical documentation, medical data and more. It does not require a pre

Florian, et al. 2002 Frequent Term Based Text Clustering In this paper, we introduce a novel approach
which uses frequent item (term) sets for text clustering. Such frequent sets can be efficiently
discovered using algorithms for association rule mining. To cluster based on frequent term sets, we
measure the mutual overlap of frequent sets with respect to the sets of supporting documents.
It can be used to structure large sets of text or hypertext documents. Very high dimensionality of the
data, this requires the ability to deal with sparse data spaces or a method of dimensionality reduction.

Questions On Online Reviews For Local Businesses Essay
According to Search Engine Land, 92% of consumers read online reviews for local businesses.
This upward trend shows the value of customers and how their experiences can greatly affect your
online presence.
Research also tells us that 72% of consumers say that positive reviews make them trust a local
business more. It s similar to a personal recommendation.
Therefore, it s up to your team to create quality relationships with buyers. These connections will
build trust and offer key insights on how to improve service.
However, some companies practice shady tricks to bolster their brands. And that s a problem.
It s so major that potential customers alienate your brand and try a competitor. So, is your company
walking the tightrope of online reviews? Find out.
Here are five reasons your online reviews repel potential customers:
1. You Don t Respond to Negative Reviews
Customer feedback is built on the consumer s experience with your brand.
Whether it s a normal reflection of how you run your business is not up for discussion. It s all about
how the customer felt after interacting with your company.
So, don t be alarmed when a negative review appears on Yelp. Instead of ignoring the customer s
complaints, try something different.
Respond to negative reviews.
Terry Powell, founder of AdviCoach, recommends the following: To gain back trust after a scathing
review, make sure you say something as soon as possible. A quick response shows that the business

Case Study On Exxon
Is Exxon s top spot in danger?
Ben Van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell has laid out an ambitious plan to
overtake Exxon Mobil, the number one gas company in the world. Prior to 1990s, Shell was the leader
in total shareholder returns, however, it was overtaken by its rivals using the acquisition route. Mr.
Beurden believes that Shell will be able to regain its lost glory post the acquisition of the BG group.
I am determined to get us to that number one place, Mr. Beurden said after outlining the company s
long term strategy in London. I want to create a world class investment case for Shell and our
shareholders, reports Bloomberg.

The reason for higher valuation is the confidence that Exxon is in a better position to tide over the
current downturn in oil prices and it is a better managed company than Shell.
Shell s gross and operating margins, return on equity, assets to cash flow are way below that of Exxon.
Though Shell has narrowed the gap for total shareholder returns, Exxon still has an upper hand.
After the purchase of BG, the total debt of Shell has increased to $81 billion, whereas Exxon with $43
billion of debt has options left on the table.
To impress the investor community, Shell plans to increase its free cash flow per share, improve its
returns and run the company conservatively. In order to do so, Shell has capped annual investments at
$30 billion until 2020 and it has left options open to reduce spending below its lower target range of
$25 billion in case crude price hovers close to the current levels of $50 per barrel or drops below it.

Oedipus The King Blindness
Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and twisted
story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a prophecy. However,
in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of sight and blindness are woven
throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles repeatedly uses these two opposite
ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a large portion of humanity. Blindness and
sight are depicted both literally and figuratively in this Greek tragedy. Oedipus journey begins in the
darkness that comes from lack of knowledge. A person may see the truth or be blind to it just as a

Tiresias is summoned to help Oedipus in his quest; this blind man is the one character who truly sees
the situation. The king greets the seer with compliments saying, Though your eyes can t see it, your
mind is well aware of the plague that afflicts us (366 367). The soothsayer does not care for flattery as
he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry. Though Tiresias wishes to
remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth
has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The
wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And
you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449).
Even this remark fails to open the king s eyes as he continues to insult and accuse Tiresias. The
fortuneteller then describes the life that is to come for Oedipus the king: A blind man who still has
eyes, a beggar who is now rich, he ll jab his stick, feeling the road to foreign lands (551 553). When at

The Bell Jar Plath
The Bell Jar is an autobiographical, feminist novel by Sylvia Plath. The main character, Esther
Greenwood represents Sylvia Plath in several life events throughout the novel. I think one of the best
themes of this novel is that it challenges and mocks the idea of misogyny. Some examples of how
society restricted women in the 1950s deal with sex, work, and home lives and some of these
examples still exist. This novel sticks up for women and shows the true potential that they behold. In
my opinion, it helps the readers open their eyes to see how many double standards existed in our
society and it shows readers that some of the standards are still remaining.

The Trip to the Dentist Office
Thinking to myself, is there any way I could jolt back in my car and head back for home, I enter the
tall thin tan colored brick building and walk over to the elevator, hoping that the last half hour of
scrubbing my teeth to death pays off. Nervously, I push the up button and patiently wait. The elevator
door promptly opens and I am engulfed, the door closes, up I go. Once on the second floor, I exit the
elevator and immediately I can smell the mixture of the wintergreen flavored tooth paste and the
overwhelming aroma of bleach out in the hall, along with the sound of the teeth grinding drills which
gives, no longer the feeling of the dentist office but of road construction ... Show more content on

Then I turn and look to see a photo album sitting on an ancient looking coffee table. I pick it up only

the streak free window.
Finally, the nurse calls my name and I enter the inner office and sit in the cream colored trap looking
chair, hoping that it will swallow me and send me any where but here. Looking at all of the shiny
stainless steel tools gives me a feeling that I am about to enter war. Laying down the bright overhead

Dichotomy In Public Administration
In my own opinion, the distinction on an aspect of administration and the political dichotomy is both
workable and also it is practical. The reason as to why I am saying this is that first, the two aspects in
the field of government running are very necessary (Goodnow Books, 2016). In order for the
government to carry out its operations for the better of the general public who are the core principles
in a public administration, it is of important to have the two aspects in place for the leaders in
government to operate as required in order to yield the best results of their services to the public
expectations. The two are in a dichotomy situation but however, there is a way that they can be
integrated and used concurrently to yield better results in government operations in its leadership
process.
To have this aspect of practicability and workability of the distinction, let us first examine each of the
two aspects separately then from there we get to see the integration of the two to bring out an effective
operational platform of the two.
First, let us think of an administration. We all know and appreciate that for an effective and efficient
leadership, there needs to be a strong leadership and also the management characteristics of the
administration in place need to be performing greatly (Association for Politics and the Life Sciences
(U.S.), 2017). Another aspect that is supposed to be considered in the field of public administration
and specifically government

Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay
A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social restraint and inner
compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this.
Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner compulsion, Melville
and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal desires as they struggle to find a balance
between conflicting values and social norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the Dog are restrained
by the socially expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to express their inner
compulsion of desire. Chekov reveals their yearning to escape their individual lives as they cope with
personal troubles by distancing themselves from marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous statement
I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a world where
preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an individual has the
right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints, defying all forms of
society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires.
Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady with
the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as this restricts
them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned with nails
(Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable to be free
from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears to be fending
off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their love. The image of an
old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely further emphasises this lack of
freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the most illuminating aspect of this
passage. Even what is considered as the lowest form of humanity, appears to show more freedom then
what they can as they cannot pass this

The Horror Genre Essay
The Horror Genre
The horror genre is a topic that can be written or filmed about. In this essay, I will be concentrating on
films, and how the horror genre is included in them. The main ingredients in a horror film are music,
sound effects, lighting, camera trickery special effects and most importantly a clever, catchy, scary
script. But to make horror what it is, a director will include many other things that create suspense and
the eerie atmosphere of the scene, or simply make us cringe. The prop are not just there to fill space,
the costumes aren t chosen because the character had to wear something or the film done at night
because the filming finished late. I will explain the reasons these ... Show more content on

The viewer will feel sorry for the victim, and feel hatred towards the murderer, getting him or her
involved in the film how often have you been watching a film and the person sat next to you starts
saying Yes! Yes! Kill him! or Don t be stupid! It s obvious he s guilty! I certainly have (usually my
mum). If the victim is female, she is often attractive, making male viewers like her and then angry
when she is killed, again getting angry with the murderer. Once a person has started getting involved
in a film, they won t want to stop watching it they ll want to see the guilty murderer get caught, or
killed.
Of course, in a horror film not all characters are real and nor are the events. Camera trickery, special
effects and make up add to the realism of a good horror film. The lighting adds emphasis to make up,
a character s personality or a frightening scene. If something surprising happens, such as a hideous
monster jumping out on someone, up lighting will be used. This is when the lights are shone from the
floor, up onto something, e.g.. under someone s chin. This causes no shadows on the person s face,
making it seem big and bright, thus often scary. This usually makes a person jump, increasing the thrill
of the film. Otherwise, down lighting can be used to make a person

Essay On Thomas Basset
About 1172, Leonard appears to have been placed on a path to stewardship, receiving appointment to
the household of a certain Thomas Basset, an owner of numerous manors, a former Sheriff of
Oxfordshire and an itinerant justice for several counties near Oxfordshire. In addition to his justicial
activities, Thomas Basset was named custos (guardian or custodian) of the Honour of Wallingford
from 1172 to 1179 [32]. The appointment was a significant one not only for Thomas Basset but, as it
turned out, for Leonard as well. The so called Honour of Wallingford began a century before as a land
grant in Berkshire and Oxfordshire made by William the Conqueror. This evolved through various
hands in the next century to embrace even more manors spanning several English counties. Its

Throughout the second half of the 1170s, Basset remained in regular contact with the King, attending
him in such diverse places as Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Shropshire, and Staffordshire,
accompanying the king on ceremonial occasions and witnessing some royal charters. The year 1179
was a particularly notable time for Thomas Basset and for Leonard. Basset resigned his custodianship
of the Honour of Wallingford in this year because, as we learn, Thomas was this year appointed
Justice in Eyre for Berkshire, Oxford and several other counties and in the list of justices errant for
Pleas of the Crown and Common Pleas, and for imposing and setting the Assizes [37]. He also was
appointed a member of the Curia Regis, a post he held until 1172. All this is to say that Thomas Basset
gained a lead role in Henry II s plans for implanting new justice. But more than that, Henry granted
Thomas Basset the Oxfordshire Manor of Hedington in the Hundred of Bolendon and other large
tracts of land outside Oxford s city gates all this, according to Henry, for Thomas s services in diverse

Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

Regional Differences Between The Northern And Southern...
1. The first important difference between the northern and southern colonies were the motives people
had in choosing where to settle. The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who were looking
for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and government. A
common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit communities. As a
result, the northern states thrived. There was a dramatic increase in population and a longer life span.
Economic gain is what drove settlers south. These colonies were mostly comprised of young men with
little to no claim in English society. Large plantations replaced tight knit communities. A lack of
purpose in religious and social objectives stunted the growth of the southern colonies. By the mid to
late 1700 s the southern states began to stabilize and population began to increase. 2. The second
difference between the northern and southern colonies were the regional differences between the
people. Religion dominated the northern colonies. It governed the culture as well as the daily choices
people made. In the north education and literacy were important and as a result there were
opportunities to go to school and be educated. In the north, most of men were intellects and many

Economy is the third difference. The northern states depended on manufacturing and trade to fuel their
economy. The growing season was much shorter than that of the south. As a result, northerners looked
to other ways of making money. Many became artisans and tradesmen. The shorter farming seasons
also reduced the need for slave labor in the north. In contrast, the south relied primarily on agriculture.
While land owners learned what crops to grow the economy in the south continued to be unstable. By
the early 1700 s plantation owners began growing various kinds of crops instead of relying solely on
tobacco. This helped to stabilize and grow the southern

The use of twitter by both the viewers and the candidates are geared toward one particular goal: to try
to change the mind of voters. By candidates operating on Twitter they possess the ability to make
instant rebuttals to something that another candidate has said without having to release an official
statement or waiting until the next debate. Also in an age of social media candidates and their
campaigns believe that it is one of the most effective ways to broadcast information and connect with
voters. Twitter users also use this median as a way to make fun at a candidate s position or simply try
to convince others to change the way they have chosen to vote. Many twitter users from the
Republican party took to the social media website to bash the democratic candidates and their policy
positions. One user slammed a comment made by Governor Martin O Malley that the greatest threat
facing the United States was climate change. This made for a twitter field day with other users
implying that the democratic candidates do not take the threat of terrorism and ISIS seriously which
disqualifies them from the presidency. These type of instances can have negative effects for either
party because of how quickly a retweet can make a statement viral and could end up severely hurting a
campaign. However, this reaction did not alter my impression of the candidates or the debate at

Federalist 10 Analysis
The question that is dispatched in the Federalist paper # 10 that James Madison has written is how to
protect the country against factions? A faction is a group of people with the same interest opposed to
the rights of the citizens or the interests opposed to the rights of the citizens or the interest of the
whole community. The paper is also written on how a strong republic would protect better against the
dangers then a smaller one for example, an individual state. Madison explains that in a large republic
there will be many different factions, held together by regional or local interests that none of them will
dominate national politics, it is important to devise a plan of government that can control the
instability, injustice, and confusion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madison believes it is a process or aftereffect of people being born with very different physical and
mental capacities. In order try to remove the causes of faction are only two options: destroy free will
by taking away the opinion of every citizen, passions and interests. The first won t work because we
have fought long and hard for freedom. The second is not fascinating nor even possible. By factions,
whether amounting to a largest of a minority of the whole faction. Who are untied and actuated by
some common impulse of passion or of interest, opposing of the rights of other citizens, or to the
durable and collective interests of the community? There are a few things bad about faction one of
those things are they will try to get they want even if it hurts others. Madison wants to create a
republic. Two ways to remove factions are to destroy liberty so we can t take it away again that s why
destroying liberty won t work. The system does not work today because people can have better
communication around so they can have the same interests around the country. The point of the
Federalist papers was to promote the ratification of the constitution. Madison believed that factions
operate in their own interest and ignore the rights of other citizens and interest of the community.
Madison believes that as long as man is allowed to exercise liberty that different opinions will be

Tuba Performance Review Essay
What intrigues me the most about the tuba in this performance is that it is possible to play the lower
notes very loudly. Normally, playing lower pitches in the tuba requires slow buzzing and a lot of air.
Towards the end, the soloist belted out the incredibly low notes. Additionally, throughout the
performance, I felt a range of emotions from feeling happy to very anxious. The short staccato notes
makes me feel cheerful but towards the end, the low pitched long notes makes me feel anxious and
worried. Lastly, the short staccato notes that plays in a fast tempo intrigues me the most. Personally, it
is a challenge for me to play shorter notes at a fast tempo therefore I am mesmerized that it is
attainable.

The Truth Behind Honor By Marguerite De Navarre
The Truth Behind Honor Honor is a concept that has a great deal to do with entitlement and based on
the actions or qualities of a person. There are three main types of honor that society recognizes;
family, men, and women and in The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre portrays each of the three
types of honor throughout her stories. However, there are often a number of complications that follow
honor that lie with classified and understandably honorable deeds or traits, and who is it that
determines this. Another issue that one may find is that it is also complicated to be able to view one
form of honor in the presence of another due to certain views clashing with one another. In addition to
this, Marguerite de Navarre s stories are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, it was even more so an issue than it is now, creating little freedom for women. Men held
the power in this instance, and believed that they were more worthy of an integral status than women
were. In The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre introduces the reader to the Duke of Medici,
married to Madame Marguerite who had been too young to consummate the marriage. As a result, he
had a great deal of love affairs with the women in town. Eventually this lead to him developing
feelings for one of the virtuous women who had been the sister of the man the Duke considered his

I have to do! (159) Occurring after his friend refused to send word to his sister of the Duke s request,
he responded in the typical manner that he was known for ruthlessness. At this point, he believed that
due to his social standing, it was only right that the sister of the man he had been quite close with were
to be his current love affair. His honor lies with the accepting of his offer without it, he would take her
by force. This relates back to manliness and honor coexisting. Obtaining a women s virtue is a sign of

Cardiovascular Regulation Of Plasma Volume
In order to study the kidney s regulation of plasma volume, osmolality, and pH, the changes in urine
flow rate, specific density, and urine pH of adult human subjects were measured. Subjects were
assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of different
compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urine volume and
composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required to
void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage they
were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void. The
subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink only eight
ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered the subjects in a
similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because the consumption of
food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and composition of the urine
voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a considerable amount of fluid
an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void could have been greater than
expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on their body weight. As a result, the
amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At T0, the subjects were in a state of

Plant Growth Environment
2a.
Cakile edentula competes less aggressively when it grows in close proximity with its relatives. The
root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a
region where there is no genetic relatedness. The hypothesis the presence of close relatives in the plant
s environment does not change group or individual fitness was tested using another species, Lupinus
angustifolius. Three different controlled environments were constructed to grow this plant: one
surrounded by relatives, one surrounded by unrelated individuals of the same area, and one
surrounded by unrelated individuals of different areas. Regardless of the growth environment, it was
predicted that plants will compete equally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the
mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual
Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by
competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown
in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower
than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007).
This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to
relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition
between relatives this would affect overall group fitness.
Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in
the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003).
This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group
fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success.

Symptoms, Causes, And Treatments Of Schizophrenia
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia
Cassidy Echalico
Florida State College at Jacksonville
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a stigmatized disease that
labels victims as crazy. One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two
million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although
schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men are
generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the twenties
to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children, affecting only about
1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not realize they have
schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff, Faerden, Romm,
Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only know the stereotyped
effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and possible treatments can
clear many stigmas up.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental

eyepiece lens will then reflect back the image to form an inverted, magnified virtual image in front of
~. For this experiment, the formulas used are the lens equations 1/f = 1/di + 1/do to find the focal
lengths of the lenses, M = fo/fe for the prediction of magnification, and M = Hi/Ho for the actual
measurement of magnification. According to theory, a telescope consisting two convex lenses acting
as objective and eyepiece lens will form an inverted, magnified and virtual image. From the pictures
taken using the telescope, this theory has

1. Strategic Profiles and Case Analysis Purpose
Porsche s mission, vision and its reputation are clouded after the take over of VW group. VW group
oversaw the take over of other famous brands like, Bentley, Buggati and Lamborghini. Under the new
leadership and direction from the top brass, the first move was to restructure Porsche. The
restructuring saw Porsche s top executives sent to other car brands in VW group to share expertise and
Porsche s success. Replacing them are executives from other car brands, like Matthias Muller from
Audi whose main aim was to integrate Porsche into VW family, extend its product line and increase
production, from 80,000 units to 150,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dominate the road. Porshce then decided to extend its product line to include a SUV the Cayenne. It
was a move that ensure profitably growth in the following years
b. Industry Analysis
i. Potential Entrants
The potential threat of new entrants is low as it costs high when it comes to producing a high
performance car. The barriers to entry present a low threat to Porsche when it comes to a brand that
could immediately match and threatens Porsche s current brand and market share. The lack of research
and development, the technology that was hone throughout the years for Porsche and the Brand
recognition that was built throughout the years pose as a difficult and near impossible for any new
brand to come into the market and have such an impact.
ii. Bargaining Power of Suppliers
As Porsche makes their own engine parts for the Models the only bargaining power that could come
from is from the commodities market that deals with the raw material that Porsche needs. Only the
manufacturing of Boxster segment is produced externally. The first manufacturer of the Boxster was

Authors Rights In The 15th Century
n the early 15th century, authors received minimal recognition for their original works. Authors
received no compensation for the reproduction of their original works, and publication companies
gathered all of the fruits of the author s labor. In 1710, The British parliament enacted the Statute of
Anne which granted exclusive protection to the original author of any given work, in addition to
granting them the power to control reproduction of their work. This was monumental for authors
because up until this point, British authors were all subject to piracy, where publication companies
would copy work that did not belong to them, and often times change the meanings of what the author
intended. For the first time, authors had legal protection and the power to stop others from copying
their work. This became known as copyright. Following this, the drafters of the US Constitution
mirrored the statue of Anne and established authors rights in Article 1, Section 8, ... Show more

The Copyright Act of 1909, which would eventually be outdated by the Copyright Act of 1976
protected all published works between 1909 and 1978. Unpublished works were protected under
common law which meant that the rights would be determined by previous court cases. Under
copyright law, a work is published if copies or phonorecords are distributed to the public by sale or
other transfer of ownership or by rental, lease or lending. This was primarily based on the printing
press and its distribution of works which at the time was unfair to the original author. Due to
groundbreaking developments in technology in the next 60 years such as radio, television,
communication satellites, cable television, computers, photocopying machines, videotape recorders
etc., there was a dire need to reform the law to secure works now, and in the

The Pros And Cons Of Tobacco Commercials
Have you seen a tobacco commercial recently? I bet you saw the side effects of smoking and dipping
and what it will do to you in the long run. If you watch a tobacco commercial back in the 1970s, they
don t show you the side effects of smoking or dipping. They show you that it s alright and shows
working men putting in a dip while working or smoking a cigarette. Tobacco commercials from back
then up until now. Back then they displayed a different message in their commercial then people do
now a days. The two commercials are advertising the same thing, but in two different ways. The first
ad I am going to talk about is the 1980 s commercial of Red Man s Chewing Tobacco. Red Man s
Chewing Company was founded in 1904 by the Pinkerton Company. Back in the day before TV, the
Pinkerton Company would advertise Red Man by putting their logo on the side of buildings and barns.
Their logo was a red indian, indians were said to smoke a lot of tobacco. Red Man tobacco flourished
in a lot of the southern states because that s where the tobacco is grown and made into chewing
tobacco. Pinkerton Company s marketing material describes Red Man s consumer base as A large
number of consumers work outdoors and enjoy hunting, fishing and watching auto racing .By
Pinkerton Company saying this, they were basically saying that only men who work, hunt and fish use
Red Man. There were plenty of men who did not work nor did they like to hunt and fish who would
chew Red Man. Also there were women

The Effects Of Mental Illnesses
Mental illnesses greatly affect the lives of those they attack. However, those who are free from the
captivity of mental illnesses are generally unaware of the destruction caused by them. Mental
illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, take hold of people s lives and determine the way they go.
Unfortunately, mental illnesses are not taken seriously. Many believe that mental illnesses are just a
phase that people will naturally recover from. In today s society, anything that is abnormal is
suppressed. Sadly, this is true for mental illnesses. Those suffering from mental illnesses are hidden, in
a sense, from the normal world. Mental illnesses are viewed as abnormal, and those that hold this view

According to society, mental disorders and illnesses are abnormal. This mindset is caused by the
stigma shrouding mental conditions. However, what does abnormal really mean? Merriam Webster,
one of the oldest and most common dictionaries, defines abnormal as deviating from the normal or
average (Merriam Webster). If something truly is not common, thus normal or average, then it must,
by definition, be abnormal. This raises an important question: how common are mental illnesses? The
answer to this question will help determine if mental illnesses are truly abnormal. According to the
National Alliance on Mental Illness, Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. ... experiences mental
illness in a given year and Approximately 1 in 5 youth aged 13 18 (21.4%) experiences a severe

The year 2081, and everybody was finally equal in every which way. Nobody was smarter than
anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than

Vonnegut Jr. illustrates a government implemented law of equality forced upon a society. Vonnegut a
social commentator utilizes satirical events in the story to illustrate irrational thoughts and ideas from

strict governments. A dystopian setting often depicts characters that think technology and/or big
government are trustworthy and will always protect them or save them. A dystopian society is also one
that has lost ascetics of a culture, including art, music, drama, athletics, and/or creative expression.
The settings in dystopian novels or stories are always bleak, oppressive and offer no hope or
individual freedoms for the masses. Individuals and even entire family units are sometimes distracted
by technology, and they have sometimes fallen prey to a consumer mindset.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
INTRODUCTION The University of North Carolina Central is located in Durham, North Carolina.
The US National Library of Medicine National Institution of Heath states that in 2009 it was reported
that 65 Percent of HIV infected people receiving care had undetectable viral loads. There were many
reasons that prevented people from getting tested such stigma, fear, and denial of risk, included costs,
transportation, and low medical literacy (Bartlett, Kolman, Proeschold, 2009). It is important that
students become aware of ones surroundings and learn how to protect themselves. One needs to get

Exposure to drugs and alcohol directly increases the amount of risky sexual activity students engage
in, and the college environment provides an opportunity to have sexual encounters with multiple
partners, even in a casual context, often without condom use or other forms of contraception. These
students are at heightened risk for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies.
Research in this area has relied on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to identify beliefs and
attitudes that might predict sexual risk taking. However, the TPB model does not take into
consideration other factors that might influence sexual behaviors such as past sexual history, moral
beliefs, self esteem, family expectation, and peer influence. College is a time for experimentation and
discovering the world around you. More importantly, it is when one discovers him or herself. Being
away from home is a new found freedom that most freshmen have not experienced before. On college
campuses and more specifically historically black institutions students are becoming a victim of their
own freedoms. Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise and education and awareness is key in
the fight against it. Without getting into religion or personal beliefs saying someone has too much sex
or other risky behaviors is hard to do, but limiting these behaviors as well as taking preventative

The Benefit Of Options In Therapy
Some people make appointments to see their therapist in person, others choose online counseling. As a
counselor and therapist who offers both, my experience is that neither is better or worse than the other,
they are just different. Each approach to therapy has its own advantages and benefits.
When There is No Body Language , the Focus is on the Therapy
Some people have an idea that because online counselors will not see body language, they are at a
disadvantage in their job and may not be as effective as face to face counselors. But how significant is
body language when considered against what is being said and heard? Online therapeutic
conversations actually have the potential to be more focused than a discussion between therapist and
client in the same room. The distractions of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have already covered how the different approaches to online therapy have their own advantages
that may outweigh body language and other specific disadvantages in some situations. In terms of the
risks or other concerns, I think it is important to point out that internet based therapy makes
counseling and therapeutic support possible for many people who would not otherwise be prepared to
engage with a therapist.
A lot of people who have consulted me through online appointments might not have even tried
counseling if the online options were not available. Should these people be denied access to
counseling just because they are not prepared to sit down in an unfamiliar space with a stranger they
have never met?
Online counseling and therapy are inevitably the direction that much therapeutic practice will take in
the future. Internet based talk therapy has the potential to help many people because it is comfortable,
private and actually does put the consumer back in

  • 3. Informative Essay On Fake News Bogus News Everyone is tuned into the news because sometimes it has information the society needs to know. The reason I say sometimes must do with the fact that not all news is trustworthy. Fake news is seen very often and can be misinterpreted by many people. Well, what is fake news? I believe fake news is information that is false and just out there to get attention to it. Behind fake news comes fake ideas, most people s opinions on social media, and false predictions or sayings. Nowadays, anything could be considered as news but I think it s important to identify the real news from the fake ones. That way whatever anyone hears or sees will be reliable. According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tan says, Fake ideas are more subtly dangerous than fake facts. I agree with this statement because facts are facts and ideas can be changed several times. When it comes to ideas, good or bad, some go beyond our expectations that we question ourselves, Will it happen? or Will it work? . Anyone can come up with an idea and expose what they created to the whole world. The Philippine Daily Inquirer states, ... they exaggerate an idea and twist its logic beyond recognition. In fake news any nonsense is shown and said but, the public can t distinguish was it true and what is false. If the news is about political issues or relates to something about the government, it should be accurate. The article Real Confusion about Fake News, Kappan explains, At present, we worry that ... • 7. Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity Einstein s Theory of General Relativity originally came to him in 1907 while he was sitting in a chair in the patent office in Bern. Lost in thought, he began wondering what it would be like to drop a ball while falling off the side of a building (James Overdunn, Stanford Edu) Granting all this, he realized that the person who was falling would not be able to detect the effect of gravity on the ball whereas an observer could. Hence, he figured out the principle of Equivalence, that gravity pulling in one direction is completely equivalent to the acceleration in the opposite direction. Nevertheless, his work was only seen 8 years later when he published his theory in 1915. Another key factor in Einstein s theory of general relativity is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sensitive gyroscopes orientations were being monitored in conjunction to a guide star. As a result, this mission was deemed a success and backed up both of the two theories they were testing. Importance Einstein s theories of Relativity were thought to be one of the most important discoveries in the early 20th century. They led to many different discoveries that would have taken decades more to discover without it, who knows some might not have even been discovered yet today. Some of the discoveries that his theories led to are: Edward Hubble s observations that the stars and galaxies move and that our universe is constantly changing and expanding (1924). Hubble based his calculations on Einstein s General theory of relativity. What s funny is that Einstein actually rejected Hubble s theory to support his own theory that the universe was static but had to in the end support and agree with Hubble s theories since they were based on his own theories!(Burgess,Discovery) Alexander Friedmann in 1922 used Einstein s equations of relativity to figure out the approximate age of the universe at over 10 billion years old (we have now figured out it s around 13 billion years old, but he was close) known as The Big Bang Theory . The theories of relativity also led to the discovery of the existence of black holes and gravitational waves, which we are still researching today. • 8. Summary Of John Steinbeck s East Of Eden In John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden, one sees how past events such as the hostile interactions between brothers, Adam and Charles, effects the attributes of future characters such as Cal. These proceedings mold and form Cal s character, influencing not only his actions, but also his resonating self condemnation at the end of the novel. Without these former occurrences, the reader would be otherwise blind to the curse of the brothers as seen through the parable of Cain and Abel and to the overriding theme of good versus evil presented not only in the brother s relationship but also in the scenery of the Salinas Valley. Furthermore, from the very beginning of the novel, it is obvious, that there was always a favorite brother. In Adam s childhood, he persisted to be the favorite child of Cyrus Trask. Good hearted and trusting of others, unlike his stolid and unemotional brother, Charles, Adam got a seemingly innocent gift for his father s birthday, a pup, a gift that would service his father until the day he died. This personalistic gift unlike Charles materialistic gift of a knife, for which Cyrus Trask never used or admired, serves to be the wedge between the two and the ultimate reasoning behind the various beatings Adam received as a child. This past occurrence unfortunately continues to the present and forms Cal s character, a jealous son looking to gain his father s love, a heart already stolen by Aron, a similar personality to that of his youthful father. However, although apparent as Adam s favorite might be, it is Cal s decision on how to cope with this obvious choice. Likewise, to envious Charles, who acted only out of violence, Cal acts out of anger, bringing his only brother to the place that would hurt him the most, his mother s whorehouse. This reoccurring theme of good versus evil guides Cal future decisions in terms of being the person he wants to be and refuting the overwhelming curse of brothers. Moreover, just as Cal and Aron relate to their father and his brother, Charles, they also fall under a biblical or brotherhood curse . The story of Cain and Abel depicts two brothers, one who s fueled by jealousy (Cain), kills his brother over the favoritism God had on the two gifts presented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Their Eyes Were Watching God By Zora Neale A Feminist In Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, despite actions that suggest otherwise, Janie is neither feminist nor a role model due to her reliance on men and desperation for independence. Throughout the novel, Janie requires the men and death to rescue her and give her the ability to help herself. Janie s lack of feminism is represented in her passivity with men, and in how she does not endeavor to protect herself against their abuse or oppression. Literary critic Trudier Harris claims that Janie lacks the ability to determine her own fate. She is primarily passive, which is anathema to feminist philosophy. Feminism is about women finding ways to determine their own fates, to change their lives for their own... well being . However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although one could perceive Janie s actions against Logan as actions done for her individual prosperity, they are truly rooted in her reliance on men. When attempting to leave Logan, Janie is unable to find the courage to do so until Jody comes to her and presents her with a better future. And after she did leave Logan, Janie hurried out of the front gate and turned south. Even if Joe was not there waiting for her, the change was bound to do her good. (). Her decision to take her newfound freedom and head to Jody represents the pattern of Janie waiting for others to save her from her life. Although she insinuates that her actions are for herself, her decisions were greatly influenced by the future promised to her by Jody. Moreover, this action that she takes for herself is so overshadowed by Jody s considerable influence on her, it is difficult to see it as done for anyone other than Jody and his promises. This exemplifies Janie s reliance upon men in order make a change in her life because after she left Logan her decision about her future was rooted in Jody s previous suggestions and promises. It also disputes the claim that her choices were her own, and were done solely for her own well being. Another counterargument that could arise in defense of Janie s feminism is when she stands up to Jody. Janie makes a strong move for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You Don t Respond to Negative Reviews Customer feedback is built on the consumer s experience with your brand. Whether it s a normal reflection of how you run your business is not up for discussion. Ben Van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell has laid out an ambitious plan to overtake Exxon Mobil, the number one gas company in the world. Prior to 1990s, Shell was the leader in total shareholder returns, however, it was overtaken by its rivals using the acquisition route. Mr. Beurden believes that Shell will be able to regain its lost glory post the acquisition of the BG group. I am determined to get us to that number one place, Mr. Beurden said after outlining the company s long term strategy in London. After the purchase of BG, the total debt of Shell has increased to $81 billion, whereas Exxon with $43 billion of debt has options left on the table. To impress the investor community, Shell plans to increase its free cash flow per share, improve its returns and run the company conservatively. In order to do so, Shell has capped annual investments at $30 billion until 2020 and it has left options open to reduce spending below its lower target range of $25 billion in case crude price hovers close to the current levels of $50 per barrel or drops below it. Oedipus The King Blindness Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and twisted story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a prophecy. However, in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of sight and blindness are woven throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles repeatedly uses these two opposite ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a large portion of humanity. The soothsayer does not care for flattery as he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry. Though Tiresias wishes to remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449). • 16. The Bell Jar Plath The Bell Jar is an autobiographical, feminist novel by Sylvia Plath. The main character, Esther Greenwood represents Sylvia Plath in several life events throughout the novel. I think one of the best themes of this novel is that it challenges and mocks the idea of misogyny. Some examples of how society restricted women in the 1950s deal with sex, work, and home lives and some of these examples still exist. This novel sticks up for women and shows the true potential that they behold. In my opinion, it helps the readers open their eyes to see how many double standards existed in our society and it shows readers that some of the standards are still remaining. Although many of the characters in this novel fall victims to the hypocrisy in the society during the time of the novel, there are a few characters that are completely unconventional. The first woman that inspires Esther with her realization of hypocrisy and misogyny is Jaycee. She is Esther s boss and she influences Esther to be as motivated and ambitious as she is toward the beginning of the novel. Jaycee is a motivated, working woman that doesn t live her life to support men. The second character that does not fall victim to the sexist society is obviously, Esther. Esther realizes that she is an intelligent young woman and she has more potential than to just sit at home and support a man for the rest of her life. • 22. Dichotomy In Public Administration In my own opinion, the distinction on an aspect of administration and the political dichotomy is both workable and also it is practical. The reason as to why I am saying this is that first, the two aspects in the field of government running are very necessary (Goodnow Books, 2016). In order for the government to carry out its operations for the better of the general public who are the core principles in a public administration, it is of important to have the two aspects in place for the leaders in government to operate as required in order to yield the best results of their services to the public expectations. The two are in a dichotomy situation but however, there is a way that they can be integrated and used concurrently to yield better results in government operations in its leadership process. To have this aspect of practicability and workability of the distinction, let us first examine each of the two aspects separately then from there we get to see the integration of the two to bring out an effective operational platform of the two. First, let us think of an administration. We all know and appreciate that for an effective and efficient leadership, there needs to be a strong leadership and also the management characteristics of the administration in place need to be performing greatly (Association for Politics and the Life Sciences (U.S.), 2017). He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a world where preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an individual has the right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints, defying all forms of society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires. Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable to be free from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears to be fending off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their love. The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the most illuminating aspect of this passage. On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who were looking for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and government. A common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit communities. As a result, the northern states thrived. There was a dramatic increase in population and a longer life span. Economic gain is what drove settlers south. These colonies were mostly comprised of young men with little to no claim in English society. Large plantations replaced tight knit communities. A lack of purpose in religious and social objectives stunted the growth of the southern colonies. By the mid to late 1700 s the southern states began to stabilize and population began to increase. 2. There are three main types of honor that society recognizes; family, men, and women and in The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre portrays each of the three types of honor throughout her stories. However, there are often a number of complications that follow honor that lie with classified and understandably honorable deeds or traits, and who is it that determines this. Men held the power in this instance, and believed that they were more worthy of an integral status than women were. In The Heptameron, Marguerite de Navarre introduces the reader to the Duke of Medici, married to Madame Marguerite who had been too young to consummate the marriage. As a result, he had a great deal of love affairs with the women in town. Eventually this lead to him developing feelings for one of the virtuous women who had been the sister of the man the Duke considered his other half . The Duke then goes on to say So be it then! (159) Occurring after his friend refused to send word to his sister of the Duke s request, he responded in the typical manner that he was known for ruthlessness. At this point, he believed that due to his social standing, it was only right that the sister of the man he had been quite close with were to be his current love affair. • 36. Cardiovascular Regulation Of Plasma Volume In order to study the kidney s regulation of plasma volume, osmolality, and pH, the changes in urine flow rate, specific density, and urine pH of adult human subjects were measured. Subjects were assigned one of four beverage options: water, Gatorade, Coke, or nothing. Beverages of different compositions were used to study what effects does fluid intake have on urine volume and composition. Subjects fasted five hours prior to the experiment, in which the subjects were required to void and test their own urine every thirty minutes for 120 minutes after ingesting the beverage they were assigned. The urine volume, specific gravity, and urine pH were measured for each void. The subjects were instructed to fast five hours prior to the experiment and were allowed to drink only eight ounces of water if necessary (Manuguid et al., 2015). Avoiding food or drink rendered the subjects in a similar physiological state at the start of the experiment. This is important because the consumption of food or drink shortly before the experiment may affect the volume and composition of the urine voided, which would have affected the results. If a subject had ingested a considerable amount of fluid an hour before the experiment, their urine volume for their first void could have been greater than expected. The amount of liquid the subjects ingested depended on their body weight. As a result, the amounts of liquid ingested varied within the drinking groups. At T0, the subjects were in a state of ... The root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a region where there is no genetic relatedness. The hypothesis the presence of close relatives in the plant s environment does not change group or individual fitness was tested using another species, Lupinus angustifolius. Three different controlled environments were constructed to grow this plant: one surrounded by relatives, one surrounded by unrelated individuals of the same area, and one surrounded by unrelated individuals of different areas. Regardless of the growth environment, it was predicted that plants will compete equally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007). This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition between relatives this would affect overall group fitness. Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003). This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success. 4. A plant s ability to distinguish its own roots should be an inherent skill, because root growth occurs in a remarkably heterogeneous space (Hodge 2004). This citation states that the ability for ... One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men are generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the twenties to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children, affecting only about 1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not realize they have schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff, Faerden, Romm, Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only know the stereotyped effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and possible treatments can clear many stigmas up.
