Analysis Of Black Hair By Gary Soto
Black Hair by Gary Soto is a three stanza, free verse poem that observes the life of a young Mexican
boy and his admiration for Hector Moreno, a Mexican baseball figure. The speaker is immediately
identified as the young boy as he starts to reminisce about when he was eight years old. The boy goes
on to talk about how he thought of himself at this age, as well as Hector and his parents. He would
watch the baseball games and look up to Hector, copying him, and addressing how this win for Hector
would be a win for him and all the brown people . The audience isn t addressed as a literal part of the
poem, so we can imagine it from a bird s eye point of view. The poem takes place within the mind of
the former boy, reflecting on his time among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So how might the author demonstrate his piece and how do these tools affect the way in which we
understand his overall message? To follow, I will explore the ways in which the author chose to
deliver his message and which tools make this successful from the audience s perspective. An
immediate choice I notice from the author is his selective diction. Soto uses a lot of strong diction like
dirty, torch, terror, flared, and twisting, but none captivate the character as well as when he uses the
word brilliant . When Soto uses the word brilliant in stanza one and three, he does not mean to say
intelligent or excellent. Instead, Soto uses this word to mean something more with a literal and
physical meaning, like how he states towards the end of the poem, In the bleachers I was brilliant with
my body/Waving players in and stomping my feet (Soto 21 22), connecting it to the body and its
actions. This brings the character alive and gives the boy a feeling of acceptance and power,
connecting him with the community and success he was becoming a part of. Soto s diction led me to
notice the radiance this word gave the boy, which exposed the theme of lightness and darkness,
symbolizing the child s journey through hope. The

Taking a Look at Correlational Studies
A correlational study is a quantitative research method, which there are two or more variables in
which the researchers goal is to determine a relationship using statistical data. The significance of this
approach is that is does not analyze or try to prove cause and effect type patterns or relationships.
Using this type of research study can determine behaviors in human actions or any other variables that
can be evaluated for a relationship. Using a correlational approach can be a stepping stone for further
experimental studies and is an important approach used in educational research.
Correlational Research
Correlational research is a type of study in which two non manipulated variables are measured to
determine if there is a relationship. This type of research observes the connection between the two
variables. Correlational research is often called Association research and has two basic purposes. In
the remainder of this text, the purposes, steps, threats and a comparison of correlational research will
be discussed.
There are two basic purposes of correlational research. The first purpose would be to help explain
human behaviors, such as behaviors in an Explanatory design. In this type of design the extents to
which two or more variables co vary, that is, where changes in one variable are reflected in changes in
the other (Creswell, 2008, p. 358). When conducting an explanatory correlational study, researchers
usually gather data at one time, as their

The MRP is utilized for manufacturing, inventorying, and shipping. This system and data is just as
important as the ERP. Both are critical software components to Riordan Manufacturing success. After
reviewing the existing hardware and software being utilized, I have concluded that Riordan
Manufacturing must make changes to some hardware, software, and procedures affecting IT to be able
to meet it s current goals and expectation. To be able to do this, Riordan Manufacturing must upgrade
outdated equipment, upgrade unsupported operating systems and applications, and consolidate
databases and increase productivity. Some of the hardware that exists at Albany and Pontiac sites
needs upgrades to increase the productivity of the plants. The Albany site can change its structure to
mirror the Headquarter with a 100 base T Ethernet with switches and reduce the amount of hardware
and connections. The Pontiac site needs to upgrade to CAT 5 cabling to reduce data transmission
degradation. Next, replace the hubs, patch panels with switches, and run a 100 base T Ethernet.
Furthermore, both sites need to upgrade to a full T 1 connection to support the data transmission speed
to headquarters. Software at both the Albany and Pontiac sites need to be upgraded due to
compatibility issues with other sites and the fact that the software is no longer supported by the
vendor. Both sites use WIN NT for the operating systems for their network and Exchange

Identity Development in Great Expectations Essay
Great Expectations tells the ultimate rags to riches story of the Orphan Pip. Dickens takes his readers
through life changing events that ultimately mold the identity of the main character. Dividing these
events into sections will provide the basis for interpreting which events had the most profound effect
on Pip s identity towards the end of the novel. These life changing events provide the catalyst for the
development of Pip s character from childhood, his adolescence, maturing into a social gentleman, and
finally becoming a self aware man of society. The novel opens with Pip in a church cemetery
explaining the origin of his name and contemplating how his parents would look if they were alive.
Early in the novel, Dickens begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pip expresses that he ...loved Joe perhaps for no better reason than because the dear fellow let me love
him implying that Pip may have a problem expressing the way he feels about those in his life (Dickens
41). This lack of expression remains present in Pip s character throughout the novel, especially with
frustration for the way he feels about Estella. Pip earning his expectations put a strain on the already
limited relationship that he had with Joe, once Pip began to realize that Joe s occupation was meager
and unfit for someone with Pip s means. As mentioned before, Pip possess and inability to fully
express his feeling about those around him. When he first encounters Estella, he knows that is a
physical attraction but Estella s cold and indifferent actions toward Pip leave him longing for someone
he cannot create a true connection with. Furthermore, Estella has the one of the greatest influence on
Pip s identity in the novel once he obtains his expectations and attempts to alter his personality to
mimic that of a genteel individual. Pip describes the anguish he feels about his background as a most
miserable thing to feel ashamed of home insinuating that the only way to win Estella over is to
disregard his humble beginnings in Kent. Which leads to his desires to become a gentleman in London
in hopes that he will be better suited for Estella. The next phase in the

Essay On The Second Amendment
How can the original writing and intent of the second amendment, be relevant in our society today?
The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating back to
1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list of
amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second amendment
states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to
keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of the second
amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific type of weapon.
The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into question until 1822. A
Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a cane. The man was fined
$100.00. But it wasn t until 1856, that the second amendment was affirmed by the US Supreme Court,
that the ownership of a gun was extended to individuals as a right.

John Stuart Mill said A sacrifice which does not increase or tend to increase the sum total of
happiness, considers as wasted. The definition of Utilitarianism is the ethical doctrine that virtue is
based on utility, and that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest happiness of the
greatest number of people. So how does Mill s words and the definition relate back to the second
amendment? The original intent of the second amendment worked in the beginning, as the militia was
the only form of protection that we had to do the greatest amount of good for the most amount of
people, with the least amount of pain. The right to bear arms also worked with duty, as those who
served out of a sense of duty to their country, required that form of protection to do their

Gary Soto Like Mexicans Analysis
I don t believe that there is one person who is just like another. As people, we have distinct
characteristics, we all come from different places, have a unique past and have a different outlook on
life, but that doesn t mean we aren t similar. At the end of the day we are all people and what makes us
different also makes us similar. To start with in the essay Like Mexicans by Gary Soto he tells us his
story about how he fell in love with a woman who was different from him. Soto s mother and
grandmother always gave him the same advice marry a Mexican girl (Soto). Soto soon realized what
his mother and grandmother meant by their advice, But then one afternoon while I was hitchhiking

She has a crush on the minister s son and she is embarrassed about her family s culture. My favorite
quote from Fish Cheeks is what would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christman (Tan)? What
would he think of our noise Chinese relatives who lack proper American manners (Tan)? What terrible
disappointment would he feel upon seeing not a roasted turkey and sweet potatoes but Chinese food
(Tan)? These are all of the concerns running through Tan s mind the minute she found out about the
holiday dinner her family was hosting. Personally, I feel this is a story that many of us can relate to.
Growing up I think a lot of people feel unsure or have insecurities when they feel different from other
people. However, I think theses insecurities only make us grow as people. At the end of the essay Tan
states, For Christmas Eve that year, she had chosen all my favorite foods (Tan). Her mother knew she
was nervous about this dinner so in result she cooked all her favorite foods to make her feel more
comfortable. Even if the context is different we have all been in situations where we have felt
embarrassed about something. Whether it has to do with a crush, school, family, work etc. We have all
had anxiety about what people may think of us no matter how old you are or what stage you re going

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot
to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that
has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district
would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the
future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates
as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools
would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near
these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the
property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a
property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice
property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own
city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of
Akron.
Scope
My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied
Garfield High school. This would give the southern portion of

Camaro Research Paper
The Evolution of the Camaro
By: Landon
Camaro, a car that is easily recognizable on the streets today is probably one of the most iconic and
controversial cars that hit the streets in 1967. For over 45 years the Camaro has exceeded expectations
and often surpassed the likes of its adversaries, the challenger and the iconic mustang. Critiques often
thought that the Camaro would fall short especially to the mustang due to the fact that it has a 3 year
jump on the Camaro, but sales records and Trams Am racing titles might mean that the Camaro is
doing just fine. Even though the Camaro is still going strong for over 45 years it hasn t been easy.
Workers strikes, recalls, even ending the production of the Camaro were just a few of the Camaro s ...

inch V8 which both varied in horsepower. It also included an upgraded drivetrain and chassis air

car. There also another option that combines these two packages together called RS/SS package. Z/28
package was originally introduced primarily for the SCAA Trans Am Racing Series it wasn t intended
to be a car sold to the public. But due to the popularity and the amount of consumers who wanted to
get there hands on GM finally gave way. The Z/28 consisted even higher performance upgrades than
the SS, which included an upgraded drivetrain, power front disc brakes, special Z/28 striping, a cowl
induction hood that was designed to feed cool air into the intake, and a Muncie M21 close ratio 4
speed manual transmission. The Z/28 package also didn t come with air conditioning and had only one
engine option that was a 302 cubic inch V8 that was rated 290 horsepower from the factory although it
was extremely inaccurate due to the fact of street regulations it was believed to have over 300
horsepower. GM rather than spend money building a new engine from scratch decided to use
components from previous Chevrolet engines to build the 302. The two main

John Calvin Influence
For the vast majority of European history, the Catholic Church has maintained its power as the
definitive overseer of the country and withstood a long lasting reign up until the early 1500 s due to
Protestant reformer, John Calvin. Europe quickly began to shift away from the overwhelming
superpower that was the Catholic Church towards a controversial, yet quickly rising, new religious
following, Protestantism. The kickstarter of Protestantism was Martin Luther, who started the religious
group due to his own inquires about the Catholic faith and personal battles with salvation. Luther
preached the ideology that a strong faith, not good works or the sacrament of penance, saved those
who were a threat to damnation. The leader of the Protestant movement s controversial ... Show more

Calvin was able to accumulate, record a new doctrine, and piece together a tangible theology for what
became the new defining faith within Europe; his personal branch of Protestantism, Calvinism.
According to the text, no reformer prior to to Calvin had expounded on the doctrines, organization s,
history, and practices of Christianity in such a systematic, logical, and coherent manner (Hunt, Martin,
Rosenwein, Smith 453). Calvinism focuses on five main ideologies; total depravity, unconditional
election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. However, probably the
most controversial doctrine Calvin introduced was predestination; Calvin argued that God had
ordained every man, woman, and child to salvation or damnation, even before the creation. Thus, in
theology, God saved the only a select few (Hunt, Martin, Rosenwein, Smith 453). The idea that
humans lacked free will and that their major life events were predetermined by God was a radically
different mindset that shocked the world at the

Negative Effects Of Christian Reformation
1. A short term positive effect of the Christian reformation is that the bible was translated into German
so that everyone could read it. Another effect was that church services were preached In the common
language not Latin. A long term effect was that music was also introduced into church services. The
Christian reformation established the University of Wittenberg as the first Protestant university.
2. A short term negative effect of the Christian Reformation is infant baptism because they believed
that gave them salvation. Another negative effect was church and state were linked together. Also
church leaders had lots of power and were thought of as rulers of the church. A long term effect is that
the Lord s supper had a distorted view.

Luther believed Sola Scriptura the Bible is the supreme authority for Christians. Solo Fides Salvation
by faith alone. Also he believed the church of Rome is not supreme over other churches. Lastly he said
neither the pope nor the church councils are infallible.
Who helped start the Protestant Reformation?
Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press because he desired to get the Scriptures into the hands

People all around the world are rejecting and accepting their heritage. Devil s Arithmetic is about

persecuted there because of her heritage. Some people think that she is starting to accept her heritage
but the truth is that she still rejects it. She is rejecting even the simplest of thing that they had to wear

Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey
Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey is a novel that features vibrant character development but the biggest
development is that which occurs in Catherine Morland. Catherine s character nearly develops in all
components of her being and she is able to evolve from the unorthodox heroine that she is initially
described as. In the novel, Catherine starts out as an incredibly naïve and inexperienced girl who
confuses all facets of the real world as the plot in a Gothic novel. Catherine develops as a character
through her social interactions with those around her as it helps her gain experience with how to
correctly perceive the world. With her newly gained experience of her surroundings, Catherine
develops and is able to see the real world through a social lens rather than her own subjective lens or
that of a Gothic lens.
Catherine s growth is evident in the very first line of the novel as it states No one who had ever seen
Catherine Morland in her infancy would have supposed her born to be an heroine. Her situation in life,
the character of her father and mother, her own person and disposition, were all equally against her
(37). Catherine s lowly heroine figure is made known instantly so that her development is much more
apparent at the end of the novel. From the start of the novel Catherine is not a typical heroine, she is
unorthodox in all facets of her life including the status of her parents. Catherine is initially also an
incredibly naive character and this fuels her

Active Denial System Paper
Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy, non
lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The ADS works
by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target (Wikipedia, 2014).
These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a microwave oven. The waves
excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014).
Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the
first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings
(Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of numerous studies, in which the worst
injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1 in 1000 chance of this ... Show more

This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a
situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m (Danyalov,
2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain, snow, sleet, and
dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by
absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not by absorbing the
radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the
ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and
comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment blocking the device, it can be
countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil (Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium
foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist, similar to fire defence systems found on rural
homes, could be used to counter the

new Jersey cannot afford. Several of the articles discussed the aspect of cost, from electricity, to
janitorial services, to adding additional meals and meals cost, along with salary and supplies. Cost are
estimated to be $1,200 per student, per year for most school districts (Sanders, A., 2014). Schools in
each district are looking for a six to severn percent financial increase for for a simple ten minuets of

Using Images And Image Optimization
It s said that a picture is equal to 1,000 words. However, in most discussions of SEO best practices,
the topic of image optimization is a bit of an afterthought. Many of today s best practice guides for
image optimization remain very similar to what an aspiring SEO might have read a decade ago. In
recent years, the emergence of social media, the emphasis placed on page speed optimization, and the
use of structured data and rich snippets have changed the game a bit. Looking ahead to the future,
SEO practitioners and business owners may need to entirely re think how they approach using images
and image optimization. But before breaking down the past, present and future of SEO for images, it s
worth looking at why this subject is an important one, and perhaps far more critical for some
industries than they may realize. Why Image Optimization Matters Businesses like accounting
software companies or psychotherapists probably place a limited emphasis of image results in search
engines. Their offerings are not highly visual, and text is a good medium for conveying their
messages. Alternatively, businesses like a jewelers selling cufflinks, or a local businesses specializing
in custom signage must be very aware of their presence in the image results of Google, Yahoo, and
Bing. If they aren t, they re missing a lot of potential market share. With product offerings that are
largely in demand based upon their visual appeal, a strong organic presence in the image results can

Argumentative Essay On Gun Control
Many of you think that gun control is a good thing, but how good can such an idea really be? The
people who know me are well aware that I am a right wing conservative republican and have been for
quite some time. I didn t always have this political stance. Before I began recreational studies in
policy, I was a democrat, and at the time I did not know what being a democrat stood for. All I knew
was that I should support the democratic party and not the republican party. This opinion changed
when I began to actually study politics. My stance on gun control became in line with the beliefs of
many conservative figures which is less government control and resultingly more individual freedoms.
To achieve this goal of less government and more freedom, we must look at facts. The facts I would
like to go over with you prove that gun control is ineffective because of examples of bad gun
legislation, the intentions of the second amendment, and the true interpretation of the second
amendment. (Intro paragraph=Ethos)
Gun control is an argument that is being readily discussed.. This is because of facts which ultimately
disprove gun fallacies generated by pro gun control advocates. Facts are stubborn things John Adams
once said. 72% of homicides by firearms in 2012 were committed with a handgun. (logos) These
statistics from the FBI renders the popular myth that assault weapons are a problem in the U.S. this is
false and Despite this fact, our ex president, Barack Obama, in 2013 wanted to push a piece of
legislation called the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 that would of completely halted the importation of
assault weapons. (logos)
You might say, Who needs a firearm? Someone looking for a gun to protect themselves and their
loved ones in their home or someone like my friend s dad who is a gun junky wanting one for target
practice. I also say, patriots still aware of the purposes of the second amendment. Those who have not
failed to recognize one of the greater meanings of our individual right to keep and bear arms. Self
preservation. Lets define self preservation in relation to my point. One s preservation of him/her self
from the threat of harm from evil doers and/or a tyrannical government. Average Americans have

Napoleon s Position As The Leader Of France
The French Revolution marked a significant shift in the status of not only France but also Europe and
the world as an entirety. In a period of uproar and uncertainty, the people of France saw themselves
without a specific leader to alter the status of the country. By taking full control of almost every aspect
of the country, Napoleon Bonaparte s position as the leader of France saw significant changes in the
army, economic and social positions of the once powerful nation. In his rapid rise to power in the 19th
century, he influenced the world momentously. On August 15, 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte was born in

His second wife was the daughter of the emperor of Austria, Marie Louise. She gave birth to their son
who became known as Napoleon II and was given the title King of Rome. Besides his son, Napoleon
produced several illegitimate children. Once Napoleon started fighting for France, he saw immediate
success. France had been involved in several military conflicts with different European nations, so in
1796, Napoleon and his French army went out and defeated Austria s army. Austria was one of France
s main adversaries at the time, so the victory was a huge triumph for Napoleon and France. The Treaty
of Campo Formio was soon signed by the French and the Austrians, granting a large amount of land to
France and presenting their supremacy to the rest of Europe. The governing power of France at the
time was made of 5 people and called the Directory. The Directory offered Napoleon a mission to
attack England, but Napoleon decided France s army were not equipped to go up against the Royal
Navy. He decided to invade Egypt instead, in order to demolish British trading routes with India.
Napoleon destroyed the Mamluks at the Battle of the Pyramids, but then his naval fleet was
demolished at the Battle of the Nile. His troops were stranded with no fleet and soon after this,
Napoleon deserted his army in Egypt and went back to France. In November 1799, there was an event

Internal Conflict Of William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Internal conflict is represented throughout Macbeth following his descent from hero to decapitated
tyrant. In Act I.vii Macbeth is debating with himself whether to kill the king or not which reveals
internal conflict between his virtue and his hamartia, ambition. He says, that we but teach bloody
instructions, which being taught, return to plague the inventor , this shows Macbeth focusing on the
practicalities of killing Duncan rather than the ethics or morality of it, he is more worried of the
possibility it could lead to his own murder, this portrays a moment of clarity that foreshadows his own
fate. The phrase teach bloody instructions is vocabulary of war and revenge which gives a hint of a
soldier s mindset. He later goes to say i am his kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed;
then, as his host, who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself. ,
structurally he has now moved on to the ethics and morality of the murder, he knows it s wrong
showing he still has a moral compass however the morality was a later thought showing that his
morals have been mixed up and shows a hint of a psychotic mind. He then leaves us with the line I
have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o erleaps itself and falls
on the other , this conveys self awareness, he knows his major flaw is his ambition, the word vaulting
suggests his ambition is so strong that it jumps out of him and drives him into situations

Theories Of Sexual Orientation
Sexual orientation refers to an individual s array of sexual, emotional or romantic attractions to men,
women or both sexes. Categories of sexual orientation typically have included attraction to members
of one s own sex (gay men or lesbians), attraction to members of the other sex (heterosexuals), and
attraction to members of both sexes (bisexuals). While these categories continue to be widely used,
research has suggested that sexual orientation does not always appear in such definable categories and
instead occurs on a continuum (e.g., Kinsey, Pomeroy, Martin, Gebhard, 1953; Klein, 1993; Klein,
Sepekoff, Wolff, 1985; Shiveley DeCecco, 1977) These ranges of behaviors have brought out several

Over the past few decades, a noteworthy change has occurred in the receiving of homosexuality from
the perceptions of researchers and practitioners. Historically, homosexuality was viewed as a mental

Essay on Effect of Ethanol on Beetroot Membrane
Biology Coursework
Hypothesis: To investigate the effect of different concentrations of ethanol on the permeability of
beetroot cell membranes.
Prediction: By exposing a membrane to a solvent, ethanol, it will increase its permeability. So the
higher the concentration of the solvent, the more permeable the membrane will be. But if the
concentration of the ethanol is beyond a certain limit, it may break down the cell membrane to the
point where there is in fact no overall effect as the ethanol would disturb the lipids in the membrane.
Therefore, more of the red pigment in the beetroot would leak as the lipids control the substances that
enter and leave the cell membrane.
However the ethanol might also impair particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When beetroot is sliced or cut, the cells are also sliced, causing the pigment to spill out. The thinner
the slices are, the larger the surface area, which would increase the rate of pigment leakage. But if the
membrane is destroyed and the phospholipid bilayer and are changed, more pigment, betacyanin leaks
by means of diffusion.
The basic structure of betacyanins
Betacyanin
Betalaines are the red pigments of beetroot. They are water soluble and exist as internal salts in the sap
vacuoles of plant cells. Betalaines are made up of red betacyanins and yellow betaxanthins.
Betacyanines include about 90% of beetroot betalaines. The most important betacyanin is betain. This
makes up 75 95% of the total colouring found in the beetroot. Jm

Generally ethanol is an alcohol found in alcoholic drinks. At 100% concentration, it is pure and a
colourless liquid with a strong odour (due to weak Van der Wall forces :D. Ethanol is produced by the
fermentation of carbohydrates in yeast cells and is used frequently as a solvent.
Proteins which make up about 70% of cell membranes are affected by the pH of ethanol. Proteins are
made of amino acids which can form hydrogen bonds with the many hydrogen atoms found in the
molecule.
The position of some of these hydrogen atoms formed change when the pH of a solution changes.
Therefore the shape of the protein molecule alters due to the change in pH.

The First Retirement Plan Of The United States
The first retirement plan created in the United States, is one that the majority of us are familiar, the
Social Security Act, signed under law in 1935. Up until 1939, Social Security only paid retirement
benefits to primary workers, which for the most part were men. Age 65 was chosen as the retirement
age because individuals who survived past childhood were likely to live past 65. However, not
everyone benefited from such assistance, even after age 65 agricultural and domestic workers were
excluded from coverage (DeWitt, 2010). The excluded group consisted of roughly half of workers
contributing to the economy, which the majority were African Americans. According to Larry DeWitt,
a public historian from the Social Security Administration, exclusion of such groups was due to tax
collection procedures and not due to racial bias. Although it may seem as though Social Security was
meant to be the only form of retirement plan for qualified retirees, it was not. During such time, many
individuals strongly depended on their savings as well as on their family. Today, the certainty of
receiving sufficient benefits solely from Social Security for a quality standard of living after
retirement is indefinite. Baby boomers individuals born post World War II between 1946 and 1964 are
beginning to claim their benefits, and given what I have learned in class, the number of individuals
entering the workforce is inadequate to sustain such a large population, thus such generation will

how identities are constructed and linked to other places and identities are marked and unmarked

The people then who live on the street are seen negatively due to their different way of living, rather
than ourselves living in our houses and apartments. The cities and the streets are often perceived
negatively, such as dangerous, crowded, dreary and busy for example. This then has repercussions on
how street people are viewed, as the identity of their place of living affects their own identity. Places
like people are attributed identity. Places can be diverse, noisy, relaxing and welcoming. Some of
these identities are imagined, some are real. People give these identities to places through their own
identity, in return for this, peoples identities are connected to where they live. Where we live will
impact on how we are seen, it is through a process called discourse that our identities are positioned,

Midsummer Night s Dream Puck Essay
In this play called the Midsummer night s dream it talks about this crazy love rectangle between
Hermia, Demetrius, Helena and Lysander. These characters are important but not as important as this
little fairy named Puck is a rebel in some way with his idea and using flowers to make people fall in
love with each other throwing off the balance of love in this play.
In this play it makes puck seem like the main character or the most important character by the way he
talks in the play it s very different from other characters the also play a big part. When Puck talks it s
normally for long paragraphs, which may show that he is trying to be presented as a the main or most
important character. My point is that Puck is the kind of the person who would offsets the balance of
love in the play by putting magic stuff in there eyes and that not going as planned, with the girls
fighting each other and the guys fights each other to Puck really made some mistake their for sure.
During that part of the play you see a lot of Puck, that part of the play can be considered a main event
of that act for sure and one the most important parts of the play too. Another way we may think that
Puck was meant to be the most important is the overall reason for him being in the play because he s a
fairy and I don t remember going into the forest and finding a group of magical fairies lead by a fairy
named Titania. Not going to lie that does not happen and he could be considered the most important
character in the fact that we see other people fall in love and be happy, but when do we see a little man

Designing An Original Toy For Children Aged Eight And Under
Introduction As a part of our final project for GEEN 1400 Engineering Projects, we had to design an
original toy for children aged eight and under. Each group has to come up with a new toy which has
not yet existed. The toy requires the implementation of engineering skills in its manufacturing and
design process. Some of those competence are obtained from in class workshops or personal
experience, though students are also allowed to take workshops outside of class, in the ITLL, or Idea
Forge. Several of the skills most groups require are: laser cutting, CAD, electronics, 3D printing, etc.
Not everyone in the group possesses skills for all aspects of the project. Students divide among
themselves and each member takes over a part of the project, however, team members still
communicate with each other in completing their tasks. Later, they piece in their parts and collaborate
to figure out remaining tasks and possible improvements to the project. The deadline for this project is
the Design Expo where students present their project to judges visiting from local companies. Our
section s theme of the final project is toys, particularly for those aged eight and under. Therefore, we
wanted to construct a toy which is fun, yet suitable for children within that age group. We decided to
design an LED maze for our final project. It primarily consist of a hockey themed maze with several
LED beams as barriers. A mini air hockey puck is part of the toy and the user utilizes it to glide

How Does Jem Mature In To Kill A Mockingbird
Before coming into the world, butterflies are secured in their safe cocoon, forced to be exposed to the
life that surrounds them. They start off as caterpillars, not aware of the horrors of the world that are
awaiting them when they make that final transformation. The butterfly s cocoon is the last barrier and
once it s shattered, the butterfly immediately starts making decisions and modifications based on this
newfound society. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this process is revealed in the children of
Maycomb, Jem, Scout, and Dill, when they discover the unjust ways of their society. Overall, Lee
successfully demonstrates how children lose innocence and start to grow up because of influences
coming from their environment.

General Rusk continued to send Smith out as a scout. After having been absent from the army for the

The civil war going on in Syria has been a topic of much discussion. What began as peaceful protests

and children being gassed or shot to death are just horrible to watch and hard to bear. With all these
casualties and the U.S government expects to make a series of targeted military strikes against the
Syrian government?
Syria is a country in the Middle East, along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Syria is very

Military intervention will only intensify the violence, not reduce it. As the veteran foreign
correspondent and Syria expert Patrick Seale has written: The only way to prevent a full scale civil
war in Syria . . . is to demilitarize the conflict and bring maximum pressure on both sides to negotiate
(qtd. in Hasan).
The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at
pushing all sides to the negotiating table. The only way the U.S can resolve this crisis is by working
together with the Syrian government and getting other countries to exert their influence and persuade
the Syrian government to turn in their enormous stockpile of chemical weapons.
The idea of military intervention will just increase the casualties in both sides. For example, after
NATO s air assault on Yugoslavia kicked off in March 1999, the number of civilian casualties and
refugees in Kosovo went up, not down. In Iraq and Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocents lost
their lives at the hands of western troops as well as home grown terrorists (Hasan). Furthermore, in
their book Why Civil Resistance Works , the US academics Erica Chenoweth and Maria J Stephan
challenge the conventional wisdom that the use of force against heavily armed opponents is the most
effective way for resistance groups to achieve their aims. They discovered that the historical record

The risk is even greater for those relatives who are genetically similar to the schizophrenic. This
theory poses important debates however. If schizophrenia is caused by simple genetics, identical twins
should both be affected by schizophrenia if one twin has been diagnosed. It is rare to find a majority of
identical twins affected. Studies have found there to be a weak genetic link to schizophrenia. A recent
study of high risk children found there to be little proof of a genetic link.
The contrast between offspring of ill parents and offspring of normal parents was significant only for
gross motor skills, but the direct affect of an ill parent on development of schizophrenia related
psychoses was not significant, which indicated a weak genetic model. (Erlenmeyer Kimling, 28)
Erlenmeyer Kimling also noted that environment and early developmental damage could play a role in
the onset on schizophrenia. This disease may have a series of triggers that could bring on the onset of
the disease. These triggers could include complications during pregnancy and/or labor, prenatal

America s Beer And Alcoholic Beverages
Americans love their beer and alcoholic beverages. Alcohol tax was even a catalyst in creating this
country by encouraging early Americans to fight for independence. Beer has been a common thread in
our society for the past 200 years that brings people together to socialize. As our country modernized
in the late 1800 s, breweries were constructed in every part of the United States. And of those
breweries, three survived prohibition and raced to take their claim on the country s market share. Our
country was carved up by three large beer companies; Miller was popular in the North, Budweiser was
popular in the South, and Coors was the choice in the Midwest and West. Adolph Coors was an
American success story and the company he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1940 s, the brewery introduced their line of premium beer calling it Banquet Coors , or as we
know that brand today as Coors. Coors became the beer for many famous actors and politicians, which
gave that brand prestige. The company took advantage of that prestige and centered their marketing
campaign on average Joes drinking the preferred beer of presidents and actors. I will argue later in this
analysis on how the brewery s loyalty to this premium brand of beer decreased market share in the
1980 s.
In the 1960 s, Coors profited by being one of the first beer companies to market their aluminum cans.
This was very important for Coors because of their production process. They were the only large beer
company that didn t pasteurize their beer. This required them to get innovative with their delivery
process. The beer industry was very saturated with competitors and Coors found their cash cow with
their Banquet brand. However, in order to provide that unique taste their product was required to age
longer and because they skipped the pasteurization process their product had to be shipped cold.
I argue that if not for the innovative process of aluminum cans, Coors would not have enjoyed the
success they did in 1960 s and early 1970 s. This was the peak of their innovative culture in the
company. Their opportunities then were how to decrease carrying and delivery costs due to their
unique brewing process and market a

The Effects Of A Rising Population With Dwindling Water...
The Effects of a Rising Population with Dwindling Water Resources Water is a non renewable
resource that is being threatened by America s exponential population growth and increasing water
consumption per capita. The future is tiptoeing its way forward, and until the magnitude of this reality
is acknowledged, the U.S. will fail to prepare for a potential loss of resources. America s population
growth, especially paired with its decreasing water supply, will lead to a synthesis of issues
threatening America s industries, living conditions, overall health, environment, and economy.
America s population is growing rapidly as a result of several different factors and will come with a
cost. A consequence of our modern medical technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a
local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually
separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue
to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is
that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain,
few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation
will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although
humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over
50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is
proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use
a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes.
(Sherwood) To compensate for this high use of water, America must put caps

How Does Helen Keller Change
Helen Keller has changed immensely from the beginning of the play The Miracle Worker . Different
influences in her life helped her achieve these changes and overcome her disabilities. Her biggest
hindrance was her inability to see, hear, or talk correctly. By having these disabilities, she could not
express her anger through words, so she expressed it by knocking things over and fighting. As a result
of this her mother and father hired nearly every doctor they could find in their nearby area but, nobody
was able to cure her.
In the beginning of The Miracle Worker Helen is 6 years old, blind and deaf. She is very spoiled
because her parents have pity for her, so they give her everything she wants. She also has very bad
behavioral issues which include, eating from other people s plates at the table, and throwing tantrums.
In addition to these dilemmas, Helen does not know that all things have a name because she has never
experienced them before. Her parents do not know how to solve these problems because they have
tried many doctors in their area but nothing has been a success. ... Show more content on

She does not take it well, most of the time they end up having brawls like the one that occurred in the
dining room of the Keller household. Helen is not learning the things that Annie is trying to teach her.
She thinks that Annie s sign language to her is just a game and had no meaning. Annie tries to teach
Helen by isolating her from her parents in the garden house for two weeks so Helen has to be

  • 2. Analysis Of Black Hair By Gary Soto Black Hair by Gary Soto is a three stanza, free verse poem that observes the life of a young Mexican boy and his admiration for Hector Moreno, a Mexican baseball figure. The speaker is immediately identified as the young boy as he starts to reminisce about when he was eight years old. The boy goes on to talk about how he thought of himself at this age, as well as Hector and his parents. He would watch the baseball games and look up to Hector, copying him, and addressing how this win for Hector would be a win for him and all the brown people . The audience isn t addressed as a literal part of the poem, so we can imagine it from a bird s eye point of view. The poem takes place within the mind of the former boy, reflecting on his time among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So how might the author demonstrate his piece and how do these tools affect the way in which we understand his overall message? To follow, I will explore the ways in which the author chose to deliver his message and which tools make this successful from the audience s perspective. An immediate choice I notice from the author is his selective diction. Soto uses a lot of strong diction like dirty, torch, terror, flared, and twisting, but none captivate the character as well as when he uses the word brilliant . When Soto uses the word brilliant in stanza one and three, he does not mean to say intelligent or excellent. Instead, Soto uses this word to mean something more with a literal and physical meaning, like how he states towards the end of the poem, In the bleachers I was brilliant with my body/Waving players in and stomping my feet (Soto 21 22), connecting it to the body and its actions. This brings the character alive and gives the boy a feeling of acceptance and power, connecting him with the community and success he was becoming a part of. Soto s diction led me to notice the radiance this word gave the boy, which exposed the theme of lightness and darkness, symbolizing the child s journey through hope. The ... • 3. Taking a Look at Correlational Studies A correlational study is a quantitative research method, which there are two or more variables in which the researchers goal is to determine a relationship using statistical data. The significance of this approach is that is does not analyze or try to prove cause and effect type patterns or relationships. Using this type of research study can determine behaviors in human actions or any other variables that can be evaluated for a relationship. Using a correlational approach can be a stepping stone for further experimental studies and is an important approach used in educational research. Correlational Research Correlational research is a type of study in which two non manipulated variables are measured to determine if there is a relationship. This type of research observes the connection between the two variables. Correlational research is often called Association research and has two basic purposes. In the remainder of this text, the purposes, steps, threats and a comparison of correlational research will be discussed. There are two basic purposes of correlational research. The first purpose would be to help explain human behaviors, such as behaviors in an Explanatory design. In this type of design the extents to which two or more variables co vary, that is, where changes in one variable are reflected in changes in the other (Creswell, 2008, p. 358). After reviewing the existing hardware and software being utilized, I have concluded that Riordan Manufacturing must make changes to some hardware, software, and procedures affecting IT to be able to meet it s current goals and expectation. To be able to do this, Riordan Manufacturing must upgrade outdated equipment, upgrade unsupported operating systems and applications, and consolidate databases and increase productivity. Some of the hardware that exists at Albany and Pontiac sites needs upgrades to increase the productivity of the plants. The Albany site can change its structure to mirror the Headquarter with a 100 base T Ethernet with switches and reduce the amount of hardware and connections. The Pontiac site needs to upgrade to CAT 5 cabling to reduce data transmission degradation. Next, replace the hubs, patch panels with switches, and run a 100 base T Ethernet. Furthermore, both sites need to upgrade to a full T 1 connection to support the data transmission speed to headquarters. • 5. Identity Development in Great Expectations Essay Great Expectations tells the ultimate rags to riches story of the Orphan Pip. Dickens takes his readers through life changing events that ultimately mold the identity of the main character. Dividing these events into sections will provide the basis for interpreting which events had the most profound effect on Pip s identity towards the end of the novel. These life changing events provide the catalyst for the development of Pip s character from childhood, his adolescence, maturing into a social gentleman, and finally becoming a self aware man of society. The novel opens with Pip in a church cemetery explaining the origin of his name and contemplating how his parents would look if they were alive. Early in the novel, Dickens begins ... • 6. Essay On The Second Amendment How can the original writing and intent of the second amendment, be relevant in our society today? The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second amendment states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a cane. The man was fined $100.00. But it wasn t until 1856, that the second amendment was affirmed by the US Supreme Court, that the ownership of a gun was extended to individuals as a right. It would be ... The original intent of the second amendment worked in the beginning, as the militia was the only form of protection that we had to do the greatest amount of good for the most amount of people, with the least amount of pain. • 10. We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay INTRODUCTION I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Purpose Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high school in or near these districts. Problem Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. The kickstarter of Protestantism was Martin Luther, who started the religious group due to his own inquires about the Catholic faith and personal battles with salvation. Active Denial System Paper Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy, non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target (Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). • 22. Using Images And Image Optimization It s said that a picture is equal to 1,000 words. However, in most discussions of SEO best practices, the topic of image optimization is a bit of an afterthought. Many of today s best practice guides for image optimization remain very similar to what an aspiring SEO might have read a decade ago. In recent years, the emergence of social media, the emphasis placed on page speed optimization, and the use of structured data and rich snippets have changed the game a bit. Looking ahead to the future, SEO practitioners and business owners may need to entirely re think how they approach using images and image optimization. But before breaking down the past, present and future of SEO for images, it s worth looking at why this subject is an important one, and perhaps far more critical for some industries than they may realize. Why Image Optimization Matters Businesses like accounting software companies or psychotherapists probably place a limited emphasis of image results in search engines. Their offerings are not highly visual, and text is a good medium for conveying their messages. Alternatively, businesses like a jewelers selling cufflinks, or a local businesses specializing in custom signage must be very aware of their presence in the image results of Google, Yahoo, and Bing. If they aren t, they re missing a lot of potential market share. • 23. Argumentative Essay On Gun Control Many of you think that gun control is a good thing, but how good can such an idea really be? The people who know me are well aware that I am a right wing conservative republican and have been for quite some time. I didn t always have this political stance. Before I began recreational studies in policy, I was a democrat, and at the time I did not know what being a democrat stood for. All I knew was that I should support the democratic party and not the republican party. This opinion changed when I began to actually study politics. My stance on gun control became in line with the beliefs of many conservative figures which is less government control and resultingly more individual freedoms. To achieve this goal of less government and more freedom, we must look at facts. The facts I would like to go over with you prove that gun control is ineffective because of examples of bad gun legislation, the intentions of the second amendment, and the true interpretation of the second amendment. (Intro paragraph=Ethos) Gun control is an argument that is being readily discussed.. This is because of facts which ultimately disprove gun fallacies generated by pro gun control advocates. Facts are stubborn things John Adams once said. 72% of homicides by firearms in 2012 were committed with a handgun. (logos) These statistics from the FBI renders the popular myth that assault weapons are a problem in the U.S. this is false and Despite this fact, our ex president, Barack Obama, in 2013 wanted to push a piece of legislation called the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 that would of completely halted the importation of assault weapons. (logos) You might say, Who needs a firearm? Someone looking for a gun to protect themselves and their loved ones in their home or someone like my friend s dad who is a gun junky wanting one for target practice. I also say, patriots still aware of the purposes of the second amendment. Those who have not failed to recognize one of the greater meanings of our individual right to keep and bear arms. The Treaty of Campo Formio was soon signed by the French and the Austrians, granting a large amount of land to France and presenting their supremacy to the rest of Europe. In Act I.vii Macbeth is debating with himself whether to kill the king or not which reveals internal conflict between his virtue and his hamartia, ambition. He says, that we but teach bloody instructions, which being taught, return to plague the inventor , this shows Macbeth focusing on the practicalities of killing Duncan rather than the ethics or morality of it, he is more worried of the possibility it could lead to his own murder, this portrays a moment of clarity that foreshadows his own fate. The phrase teach bloody instructions is vocabulary of war and revenge which gives a hint of a soldier s mindset. Prediction: By exposing a membrane to a solvent, ethanol, it will increase its permeability. So the higher the concentration of the solvent, the more permeable the membrane will be. But if the concentration of the ethanol is beyond a certain limit, it may break down the cell membrane to the point where there is in fact no overall effect as the ethanol would disturb the lipids in the membrane. Therefore, more of the red pigment in the beetroot would leak as the lipids control the substances that enter and leave the cell membrane. However the ethanol might also impair particular ... The First Retirement Plan Of The United States The first retirement plan created in the United States, is one that the majority of us are familiar, the Social Security Act, signed under law in 1935. Up until 1939, Social Security only paid retirement benefits to primary workers, which for the most part were men. Age 65 was chosen as the retirement age because individuals who survived past childhood were likely to live past 65. However, not everyone benefited from such assistance, even after age 65 agricultural and domestic workers were excluded from coverage (DeWitt, 2010). The excluded group consisted of roughly half of workers contributing to the economy, which the majority were African Americans. According to Larry DeWitt, a public historian from the Social Security Administration, exclusion of such groups was due to tax collection procedures and not due to racial bias. Although it may seem as though Social Security was meant to be the only form of retirement plan for qualified retirees, it was not. During such time, many individuals strongly depended on their savings as well as on their family. Today, the certainty of receiving sufficient benefits solely from Social Security for a quality standard of living after retirement is indefinite. Baby boomers individuals born post World War II between 1946 and 1964 are beginning to claim their benefits, and given what I have learned in class, the number of individuals entering the workforce is inadequate to sustain such a large population, thus such generation will consume ... The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at pushing all sides to the negotiating table. In the 1940 s, the brewery introduced their line of premium beer calling it Banquet Coors , or as we know that brand today as Coors. Coors became the beer for many famous actors and politicians, which gave that brand prestige. The company took advantage of that prestige and centered their marketing campaign on average Joes drinking the preferred beer of presidents and actors. I will argue later in this analysis on how the brewery s loyalty to this premium brand of beer decreased market share in the 1980 s. In the 1960 s, Coors profited by being one of the first beer companies to market their aluminum cans. This was very important for Coors because of their production process. They were the only large beer company that didn t pasteurize their beer. This required them to get innovative with their delivery process. The beer industry was very saturated with competitors and Coors found their cash cow with their Banquet brand. However, in order to provide that unique taste their product was required to age longer and because they skipped the pasteurization process their product had to be shipped cold. I argue that if not for the innovative process of aluminum cans, Coors would not have enjoyed the success they did in 1960 s and early 1970 s. This was the peak of their innovative culture in the company. Their opportunities then were how to decrease carrying and delivery costs due to their unique brewing process and market a ... When addressing the nature of water changes, it is critical to distinguish droughts departures from a local climatological norm that is presumed known from actual dryness itself. After conceptually separating the two, it was found that America was not just in a temporary drought but would continue to grow drier. (Sherwood) A key component that many high profile climate reports fail to consider is that with warming land, more rain is needed to sustain it. Although many regions will get more rain, few will get enough to match the growing evaporative demand. If this demand is not met, precipitation will continue to decrease, and our water resource will continue to shrink. (Sherwood) Although humans could take further measures to reserve additional freshwater, humans already appropriate over 50 percent of all available renewable freshwater. (Srinivasan) Because water consumption is proportional to the available amount of water, as America s freshwater supply drops they begin to use a higher percentage of this valuable resource, leaving little amounts of water for other purposes. (Sherwood) To compensate for this high use of water, America must put caps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
