Rate Of Reaction Lab
The results and that were obtained in this lab are fairly reliable and reasonable. This is because if you
refer back to Graph 1.1 for example it is clear that there is a relative and steady increase in the rate of
reaction as the concentration of catalase was increased. Although in part A, the results were fairly
reliable and they clearly show the average increase in part B, one can see that the results that were
obtained during the experiment were outliers of each other. Looking back at the table from part B
when the 80% concentration of catalase was placed into the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide + 10% Copper II
Sulphate the results of time it took for the filter disk to reach the top seemed to be unreasonable. In
trial 1 and 2 the time that was recorded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the comparison of the two reactions occurring with the 80% in part A and B it makes sense that the
rate of reaction in part B is slower because of the non competitive inhibitor that was acting upon the
catalase. But, the rate of reaction seems to be too low for the result too be realistic indicating a human
error and causing it to be slightly unreliable. Failing to change the hydrogen peroxide from part A to a
new solution in part B may be an example of human error. An experimental error that may have
affected the results obtained during the experiment was the labs failure to mention to mix the two
substances, hydrogen peroxide and copper II sulphate in part B. Failure to mention this simple
instruction may have led to the outliers in time retrieved in part B for the experiment. In the first trial
when the filter timed out at 240 seconds at the bottom of the beaker, it may have been caused by the
un dissolved copper II sulphate still at the bottom of the beaker. Another experimental error was that
during the experiment it was stated that if one was able to hurry and do the first two trials quickly then
there may be time for a third

identification of unknown organic compound
Identification of Unknown Organic Compound by Melting Point (M.P), Boiling Point (B.P) and
Infrared Spectroscopy
Methods and Background The main objective of this lab is to identify the given unknown organic
compounds with various methods. Identification of an unknown compound is important to perform
through the process of melting point (M.P), boiling point (B.P) and Infrared spectroscopy (I.R). Index
of Hydrogen deficiency (IHD) and elemental analysis makes an experiment more efficient in
determination of unknown compound. The color, odor, melting point and boiling point determines the
physical state and properties of a compound. It also determines its volatility in respect to temperature.
The functional group of a compound can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the calculation of IHD of 5 (i.e. 4 double bonds and 1 ring) and the functional groups
obtained from the spectra was similar to the hypothesis structure, benzoic acid. The experimental
value of melting point of benzoic acid was 116.7 and was almost close to the value found from
reference book which was 122.41. The error might be the impurities from container. The liquid
compound obtained from similar processes had an empirical value C5H10O. The IHD for the
compound came 1 which might be 1ring or double bond. Since, the sample had a strong smell, and the
spectrum was similar to the hypothesis structure, 2 Pentanone. Experimentally, the boiling point of
Pentanone or acetone was 950C. But from reference it was 1010C. The error in boiling point of

Bodily-Kinesthetics In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Shakespeare competition that I participated in turned into in the fourth sector and it involved the
entire STEM academy of Kaimuki high college. earlier than the Shakespeare festival, I had to go
through a severa quantity of rehearsals throughout school with the intention to prepare for the event.
My class play was based totally on Hamlet and it consisted of the scenes where Polonius become
stabbed and where Ophelia went mad. As a class, we modified the script to a high faculty
homecoming dance topic. In our play, I played King Claudius. The parts that I had to act in turned into
being introduced to the target market as King Claudius, slow dancing with Queen Gertrude, stopping
the fight among Queen Gertrude and Ophelia, and dancing inside the very last dance of our play. The
person grade that I acquired is ninety two/one hundred, that is a 92% that turns into an A grade. The
class grade that I received is 143/one hundred fifty, which is a ninety five% that becomes an A grade.

Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and
compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches.
(30 marks)
This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net
present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to
two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.
Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach
The net present value rule or NPV devised by Hirshleifer (1958), is the fundamental model of how
firms decide whether to invest in a project, commonly known as the investment decision , or ... Show

G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By
investing G gets £20,000 more to spend today (£200,000 less £180,000). It would pay for either
investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer.
Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs,
asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain
imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008)
state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to
competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will
be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. Instead of solely seeking a
maximisation of wealth that might negatively impact in other areas (e.g. future profits, return on
investment etc), NPV accounts for the time value of money, opportunity cost of capital and differences
in project rates of return.
Comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used
approaches
This report will now focus on comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two
other investment appraisal approaches, internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back.

Different Types Of Computers
In order to determine what type of computer to purchase for your BYOD (bring your own device), you
need to determine what kind of computer user you are and what needs you have.
In a world today in which we are more mobile (or need to be) than ever before, a mobile device can be
a possible solution to your BYOD needs. Mobile devices can include smartphones, tablets, ultrabooks,
netbooks, tablet PC s and laptops. Which mobile device you decide should be depended on purpose of
use and preference on which one suites your BYOD needs.
The brain of a computer is referred to as the computer processor, or central processing unit (CPU).
The CPU is responsible for processing and managing information, performing calculations and
processing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The higher the processor rate, the faster in which a processor can process information and thus the
quicker it will be. In some instances, individuals boost clock speed by overclocking, a term used to
push the clock speed beyond the manufacturers recommendation. This is common for those who use
their computers for gaming. However, doing so will void the warranty and can overheat the CPU.
Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU
uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower
through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2),
stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. When there is Level 3 (L3) cache, L3 cache will be on a
separate chip and L1 and L2 will be built onto the CPU. More cache memory will allow a processor to
be more powerful.
RAM is known as Random Access Memory. This is the temporary memory space for a computer. The
more RAM you have the more programs you can have operating at the same time. It temporarily
houses the instructions and information the computer is currently using but only does so when the
computer on. When the power is off, any data on the RAM is wiped clean.
There are different types of RAM. The common type of RAM today is double data rate 3 (DDR3).
With each DDR3 RAM, they come in different speed rates. The higher the speed rate, the higher the

been in the world since the industrial revolution and if we don t change, we could destroy whole
ecosystems. According to recent studies the united states is the leading producer of carbon emissions
in the world. We need to address the issue and start a cause for change before everything is damaged.
Take the gulf oil spill as an example,it destroyed a large portion of a ecosystem and it harmed or killed
a lot of fish and bird in that area. Not only that but it contributes to a long recovery process which can

How To Defeat Germany In The Battle Of Britain
Britain was able to defeat Germany in the Battle of Britain due to British resilience and poor
judgement from German high command. Germany s air force outnumbered the British significantly;
by August, the Luftwaffe had gathered 2669 operational aircraft, which consisted of 1015 bombers,
346 dive bombers, 933 fighters, and 375 heavy fighters (Churchill 323). The German planes were
faster, but British planes were more manoeuvrable which gave the British an advantage during aerial
combat. Moreover, the British had the strategic advantage of fighting on their home land; German
planes could not fly for very long before having to return back to base to refuel, in contrast the British
could make rapid stops to refuel and return to battle much quicker than the Germans. ... Show more

north, to their surprise the British encountered the incoming assailants. The Germans lost thirty planes,
mostly consisting of heavy bombers as opposed to a British loss of only two injured pilots (Churchill

up until late August the British were able to repel German offensives which demoralized German

Origin of Yoga
The practice of Yoga dates back to thousands of years ago and is believed to have been introduced to
the world by a person who was known as Adiyogi. Adiyogi, more famously know as Lord Shiva
himself, was first seen in upper parts of the Himalayas, where he was seen in a mystic self
transcendence. Seeing him in this state seven seekers sought to be his disciples and learn the practice
of Yoga that would lead them to this transcendence too. Adiyogi accepted these seven people as his
disciples and became the first guru ever known to mankind, Aadi Guru. The seven discliples learned
and practiced Yoga from the Aadi Guru and then set to travel to different parts of the world to impart
their learning.
Yoga thus became knowledge which was imparted through practice and ... Show more content on

World War Two And Its Effect On The World
World War Two
World War Two began in 1939 and it when for six year, World War Two lasted until both the Germans
and the Japanese had surrendered in 1945, which was six years after it began. It began in September
1939 when Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany had invaded Poland. January
1933 Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and he immediately he secretly built up Germany s
army and weapons. In 1934 he made the size of the army bigger and he began to build warships and
he created a German air force. Britain and France were aware of Germany preparing for war but they
were concerned about the rise of Communism and they thought that if Germany was stronger, it might
prevent the spread of Communism. In 1936 German troops entered Rhineland, they weren t very
strong at this point and they couldn t of been defeated easily by France or England but neither of them
were prepared for war. Germany s next step was to take back the land that was originally theirs and in
March 1938 German troops moved into Austria, the Austrian leader was forced to hold a vote to see if
Austria wanted to be apart of Germany. The voting results shows that were fixed and 99% of people
wanted to be in union with Germany. Austria looked for help from France and Britain and hitter
promised that it was the last of Germany spreading because he didn t want war. Hitler lied and in

Journey Motif in Boys and Girls by Alice Munro Essay
Alice Munros Journey Motif in Boys and Girls
Many short stories are recognized as milestones in the development of modern realist fiction. Boys
and Girls is a short story that evokes a realistic rather than romantic view of a girl s journey towards
finding herself. This short story includes the fight for her gender, and her struggle with her identity.
Also, in addition to these two defining aspects, this short story contains the realistic account of who
and what she is to become.
Clearly one of the main themes evident in this short story, the battle with her identity and gender is
quickly made apparent. The narrator is a young girl who appreciates, respects and holds her father s
authority in high regard, while she looks down on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A true feminist at heart, the author believes that women are caged creatures, not unlike the foxes, and
that the power than men have over women is something that desperately needs to change. The identity
of the girl is associated heavily with men because the author wants women to be independent. The girl
in the story therefore continues to value and be proud of all the work that she does for her father, but
also continues to defy her mother and the fact that she is a girl. Her dreams are filled with stories of
grand adventures where she plays the heroic rescuer and takes everyone to safety. However, as she
grows and begins to notice the difference between boys and girls, her dreams become less involved
with being the rescuer as being the one rescued. Perhaps this is because the feminine instinct inside of
her is beginning to develop, or maybe just because she in giving in to the inevitable. Whatever the
reason, the gender issues that the girl experiences are closely entwined with the identity uncertainties
that she has about herself.
The girl in this story is faced with the harsh reality of who she really is, and more importantly, who
she is expected to become. In her struggle to identify with her father, she is faced with the
extraordinary task of accepting who she is, and not who she wants to be. In spite of the fact that she
thinks, behaves, and dreams things like a boy would, nearly everyone in her life is forcing her to see
that she is a girl, and

Popper And Kuhn On Nature Of Scientific Progress
Popper and Kuhn held differing views on the nature of scientific progress. As seen in Popper s
falsification theory, he held that theories can never be proved only disproved or falsified. Once a
theory is proved false we move on to the next. Kuhn, on the other, hand argued a new paradigm may
solve puzzles better than the old one but you cannot describe the old science as false. Both seem to
share the Kantian idea that the really real, independently existing world is completely unknowable.
Kuhn further asserts that the empirical world, which is knowable, is partly constructed by our
categories and concepts. The fundamental difference in their views are best stated in Kuhn s own
words, A very different approach to this whole network of problems has been developed by Karl R.
Popper who denies the existence of any verification procedures at all. Instead he emphasizes the
importance of falsification, i.e., of the test that, because its outcome is negative, necessitates the
rejection of an established theory. Clearly, the role thus attributed to falsification is much like the one
this essay assigns to anomalous experiences, i.e., to experiences that, by evoking crisis, prepare the
way for a new theory. Nevertheless, anomalous experiences may not be identified with falsifying ones.
(Kuhn, 145) As seen by this passage, the fundamental difference between Popper and Kuhn is that
Popper disregards verification and Kuhn asserts that falsification only takes place once a

Puritan Depravity and Distrust in Young Goodman Brown
Puritan doctrine taught that all men are totally depraved and require constant self examination to see
that they are sinners and unworthy of God s Grace. Because man had broken the Covenant of Works
when Adam had eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, God offered a new covenant to Abraham s people
which held that election to Heaven was merely a possibility. In the Puritan religion, believers dutifully
recognized the negative aspects of their humanity rather than the gifts they possessed. This shadow of
distrust would have a direct influence on early American New England and on many of its historians
and writers, one of which was Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The influence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne sets Young Goodman Brown into a context of Puritan rigidity and self doubt to allow his
contemporary readers to see the consequences of such a system of belief.
Hawthorne s tale places the newly wed Puritan Brown upon the road to what may or may not be a true
conversion experience. The conversion experience a sudden realization brought about by divine
intervention, a vision, or perhaps a dream easily translates into the dream allegory of Hawthorne s
work and allows the author to use Puritan doctrine and the history of Salem to argue the merits and
consequences of such a belief. Major issues and themes of Puritanism must have been researched and
delicately placed into Hawthorne s discussion of not only past consequences of Puritan zeal but also
on the contemporary religious issue of his own time, the Second Great Awakening. Much like the
nighttime witches Sabbath that awaits Goodman Brown, the tent revivals of the 1820 s and 1830 s
could be seen by the questioning Hawthorne as another attempt by the church to sway its membership
towards total obedience and faith. The importance placed on this event by Goodman Brown shows the
importance placed on the conversion experience

5th October 2016
The Question of Racial Identity
Set at the dawn of the Reconstruction period, a time of supposed national renewal and modernization,
Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind the Cedars exposes the reality of an utterly medieval post Civil
War South. Chesnutt explores the role of race in shaping one s true identity through the experiences of
two bi racial siblings, John and Rena Walden, as they transcend the biological color barrier. Inspired
by her older brother s decade of splendid success living as an apparently pure white man, an existence
free of all the restrictions she encounters as a bi racial individual, Rena agrees to abandon and reject
her black identity with devastating consequences. A largely didactic novel, driven by Chesnutt s
motivation to explore the nuances of racial identity in an era in which racial identity was presumed to
be a biological certainty, Rena s character and the devastating conflicts she faces are his vehicle to
portray his own deeply personal journey of self identification. The House Behind the Cedars serves as
a metaphor for Chesnutt s own life and the internal struggles he faced as a biracial individual.
Chesnutt achieves both a certain omnipresence and intimacy in his writing through the integration of
elements of his personal biography into the novel. Much of the novel and its mulatto protagonists,
Rena and John, are based on Chesnutt s life as a bi racial

The Allegory Of The Cave
In the allegory of the cave Plato tries to show us two scenarios where the prisoners experience
emotional and intellectual revelations throughout their lives. Plato s theory was that the ones who truly
understand knowledge should guide the ignorant people out of their unenlightened states of being and
into true knowledge. The cave symbolizes the people who think that knowledge come from what they
see and hear in the world. It also indicates people that make assumptions about life based on the
substantial things they experience through hearing and seeing. Plato s main focus was to convey a
story to the world about the difference between beliefs and truth. Anyone can believe in something
they see, but that belief is really just a shadow of the truth.
Already from Plato s illustration of the prisoners, one can tell that they have very little knowledge of
their surroundings. Their lack of knowledge restricts them from knowing what s going on in the real
world. The prisoner s assumption of reality is all the shadows that appear on the wall. As far as life
goes, they believe the shadows are all there is and they don t question it. Plato referred to it as eikasia
signifying the lowest level of knowledge. The prisoners don t know any better so they don t strive to
observe anything else other than the shadows and the noises. In today s society the eikasia states of
mind can be illustrated by narrow minded people, who are set in their own views in life and do not
wish to expand

Napoleon Bonaparte As A French Revolution
Started from a mere soldier, Napoleon Bonaparte was able to ascend the throne of an Emperor.
Frequently at war, he schemed and maneuvered his way through politics to be at the top of France.
This brings up the question of what made him want to be the Emperor of France. Napoleon Bonaparte
was a man that genuinely understood his own motives and ambitions. He was able to foster the motive
of saving France from the bloody French Revolution and ambition of gaining power by utilizing
revolutionary ideas combined with his own to accumulate power and stability of imperial rule. This
occurred due to being a product of the enlightenment, power hungry personality, ego, and use of
manipulation. Firstly, Napoleon was a product of the enlightenment era. He combined French
Revolutionary ideals with his own to further his objective in order to stabilize his rule and gain the
favour of the French population. According to Patterns of World History , life, liberty, equality, social
contract, property, representation, nation, popular sovereignty, and constitution are the product of
French ideals.[1] Napoleon only used liberty and equality which were the most popular with the
citizens.[2] He described that once Italy had tasted the benefits of a wise and liberal administration, it
would be simply impossible for them to return back to their old way of life.[3] With the concept of
liberty and equality incorporated into the constitution, it was possible that Napoleon wanted the

The Function Of Haemoglobin And Oxygen
Introduction
Haemoglobin is a protein molecule in the red blood cell rich in iron. The major function of
haemoglobin is to transport oxygen (O2) from the lungs. The haemoglobin and oxygen combination is
called oxyhaemoglobin, Haemoglobin that has released oxygen is called reduced haemoglobin or
deoxyhaemoglobin which has a high affinity for co2 (Marieb, 2014).for this reason oxygen is bind to
the oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs and carried through the blood stream to the tissues. Oxygen is then
released to myoglobin (a red protein containing haem that carries and stores oxygen in muscle cells)
which is further transported in to the mitochondria be used for aerobic respiration, in exchange the
deoxyhemoglobin picks up 2 protons and 2 molecules and returns to the lungs where it is released
through exhalation. (McDowall, 2005)
Structure of haemoglobin is composed of four polypeptides, two identical chains called the alpha
polypeptide chains consisting of 141 amino acids each and beta polypeptide chains containing 146
amino acids each. Alpha and Beta each contain 8 helical segments. There are four globin chains each
composed of four heme groups attached to each of the four histidines. that combines with four
molecules of oxygen (see figure 1). When an iron atom is bonded to oxygen, haemoglobin changes
colour from purplish pink to bright red (oxyhaemoglobin) and when deoxygenate is changes to blue.
(Toole, 2004)
Discussion
Haemoglobin is essential for the human body because

The Scary Interview
Interview Exam results are not enough; Cambridge likes to see what it is getting. A personal statement
is also required, which if compelling enough will result in an invitation to be interviewed. This is the
most crucial and scary part of the application process and is designed to investigate the student s
suitability. There are myths surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views, the admissions
tutors state they do not set out to trick candidates with weird questions, but discuss issues around the
chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible minds that are receptive to
teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental stamina. Being nervous will not count
against the student but they do need to voice and defend opinions with logic. Many successful
candidates said they relished the opportunity to discuss their opinions with a world leading authority,
finding it both challenging and invigorating. Choosing a college The university prospectus, has in the
past, informed potential applicants that the college they choose is not that important because the
teaching will be the same. Many students disagree. Teaching may well be similar but it is still vital
that students choose a college they will feel comfortable in: after all for undergraduates this is going to
be home for at least three years. Ranges of unique colleges, large and small, are available for

Political Justice
The idea of justice in Western political thought has been debated throughout history. Political theorists
still debate the definition of justice and its role in government, with no one conclusion sticking out as
absolute truth. In this paper, I will observe how justice is viewed and used in the popular political
drama, House of Cards, particularly by the show s main anti hero Francis (Frank) Underwood. This

Before delving into the show, it is first necessary to understand the basics of justice. The best place to

possible effects this piece of popular culture can have on the public s view of justice in the real life
American political system can prove to be captivating. Since many of the actions Underwood takes in
the show can be viewed as reminiscent to actions taken by real life government officials, the parallel is
easily made by fans and, according to Karen Dill2
, a media psychologist, can influence how the public holds governmental officials accountable for
their unjust decisions and whether or not they believe the government is corrupted.
Political theorists, both the current and former Presidents, and the general public have weighed in on
whether or not House of Cards reveals political reality. This is proof enough to justify an investigation

Philippines have always been a target of tropical cyclones and calamities.
And let s admit it; we are not always ready when it comes to disasters. Resources are scarce when we

The Baghdad battery was the foundation of this project and Baghdad batteries were built by Ancient
Parathions. There is still no exact proof on where the Parathions were able to use it since there were no
wires found for the electric current to flow. The battery is composed of a clay pot, a copper tube
enclosing a half inch metal tube and an asphalt stopper as a resistor. Inside the clay, there is a solution
which contains electrolytes such as vinegars and juice. Scholars found out that the Parathions first
ferment their wine as so that the wine will contain more free ions. And the copper tube together with
the metal tube helps the electric current flow. Recent pioneering includes charcoal and wood sand as
an alternative helping increase electric current by 2 volts. (Source:

Sy Montgomery s Deep Intellect
In the article Deep Intellect by Sy Montgomery, he traveled to the New England Aquarium to meet an
octopus named Athena and learn her thought processes. She was an enormous creature that could shift
shapes and colors while releasing a venomous ink, yet he believed there was more to it than that.
Montgomery knew that octopuses were invertebrates so he assumed they couldn t possibly have a bit
of intelligence. However, researchers came to conclusions that they experience feelings and are
intelligent like us. One day when he was with Athena, he touched her and entered the parallel worlds
they live in. Slowly their eyes met and she grasped onto him with her suckers to greet him. As he

Sunspots Research Paper
Sunspots are generated by strong and dense magnetic fields, and these magnetic fields are caused by
flowing plasma that gets tangled and moves through the photosphere. [1] However, it is not actually
sunspot activity that effects the Earth s power grid and satellite communications, [2] but rather the
solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that can be caused by sunspots that cause problems.
[3]
Solar flares are eruptions of energy from the sun s surface. Quickly reaching temperatures of 10 to 20
million Kelvin, these flares can rise thousands of kilometres above the chromosphere, and can release
energies of up to 6 x 1025 joules (equivalent to the energy of a few million volcanic eruptions on the
earth ) [4]. Solar flares have three classifications: X, M, and C class. X class solar flares are the largest
of the three, and also have the largest impact on Earth, causing long lasting radiation storms in the
upper atmosphere, and causing radio blackouts. M class solar flares are less powerful than X class,
however they can still cause the occasional radiation storm, and brief radio blackouts in the polar
regions. C class are the smallest of them, and barely have any impact on Earth. [5]
Whilst solar flares release high amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Solar flares give off large amounts of energy and radiation, and these are absorbed by the atmosphere
in an attempt to reduce their effects on Earth. However, the increase of heat and energy result in the
growth of Earth s ionosphere. Because this is the section of the atmosphere in which man made waves
travel, radio communications can be disrupted by the unpredictable expansion. Satellites are also
affected, because they go from travelling through a vacuum to travelling through the enlarged upper
atmosphere. This leads to an increase in friction, a negative acceleration of the satellite, and the
satellite returning to Earth sooner that intended.

Reflection About Gender Identity
1. Gender identity is one s personal experience of one s own gender. Gender identity can correlate
with assigned sex at birth, or can differ from it completely. Usually, People get their identity
depending on the society that they are surrounded by. Most of the times, sexual orientation comes
from society influences and learned behaviors. In my personal opinion, I got my gender identity from
my parents, since there has no other believe in my household other than, if you are a male you are
treaded as a male. In the Dominican Republic there are many Taboos when it comes to homosexuality.
This means that people try to cover and make their kids think that it does not exist. It is difficult there
to see two men holding hands walking on the street or to hear about someone that is homosexual. Also
religion plays the biggest role in this topic. In my culture it is believed that God will punish people
with sexual desire toward someone of the same sex. My father used to tell me male chauvinist things
like, men don t cry or men don t feel any pain, and that is not true. The problem with these is that,
imagine a child in school crying for some reason, the other kids are going to call him name because
they learned that crying is not a characteristic of a man. This is a conduct learned through several
generations, and it is not changing any time soon. 2. There is not one person in the world that loves
you more than your mother. My mother and I have a very distant relationship, but I

There were many obstacles in Spence s way of proving the Jones s proclaimed innocence and rights.
The prosecution had an eye witness, Wilfred Gerttula s wife. There was also an incriminating photo of
Sandy firing a shot gun, captured by the wife of Mr. Gerttula.
Spence ordered some polygraph tests to be run and ballistic evidence to be collected but each piece of

the court. Certain representatives on the prosecution had the power to choose whether or not they
wanted the evidence to be presented in the courtroom and the judge approved their actions. Spence
believed that the judge was prejudiced against his team and eventually got a new judge reassigned to

Compare and Contrast Two Theories of Leadership. Do These...
Compare and contrast two theories of leadership. Do these theories offer practical guidance for
managers?
Practice in management There has been a long debate about the functions of leadership and
management. Kotter (1990) argued the goal of leadership is to pursue the adaptive and constructive
changes and the purpose of management is to acquire stability and consistency. In addition, he
suggested that the process of leadership is to influence others and management is to maintain
operations and accomplish goals. As was mentioned earlier, the trait theory contains highly subjective
perspectives. It means that the perception of leadership traits is associated with the assessment of
leadership. Barry et al (2003) conducted an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument could be proved by reviewing nowadays recruiting systems. It is not difficult to find
that working experience has been seen as the important sources of competency and the crucial role in
human resource management.
This is safe to say that when managers who exhibit this approach might include this as hiring
conditions. Moreover, they also introduced environmental influences as a factor which affects
management performance. In managerial situation, external factors would work as inputs and have
impacts on effectiveness of organizations. For example, communication between staffs had been
discussed as an element which can lead to better working performances and benign circle of
management by receiving feedback and making improvement. Karp (2003) claimed that individuals
can actualize their special talent by the way of skill development such as training, education and
experience which signify that leadership can be secure by inspiring and encouraging through various
channels. This concept has been adopted by public to set forth training programs. Such as Microsoft
Cooperation, their summer intern program is the combination of recruiting and training by which they
can identify individuals who are qualified and worth being cultivated. Like all other leadership
theories, the trait theory and the skills theory both have

The Weimar Government And The Causes Of The Weimar Republic
While war reparations rocked the Weimar Republic, debt wracked the farmers in the French Republic,
leading to dissent and disillusionment amongst the citizens. In this period of instability, the inability of
the republics to propose legislation without dissent opened way for new leaders taking advantage of
the situation, promising a more unified and better society.
With the fall of major monarchies, both France and Germany strived to create representative
governments that listened to the needs of the people. However, that did not work out as intended, with
the government focusing more on the upper class rather than the peasants that made up the majority of
the fledgling republic s population. For example, the Constitution of 1793, advocated by Maximilien
Robespierre, granted universal suffrage for men. Even with the increased rights for the people, the
government did not ratify legislation that appealed to the majority of the population, the peasants.
Instead, legislation that abolished property requirements for farmers, de christianized society, and
created a republic calendar did not appeal to the farmers swimming in debt with a lack of food on the
table (Tocqueville). As a result, the new republic enabled the common people to voice out against
them, rather than for them. After a few centuries, the Weimar Republic faced a similar situation. With
much of the country disillusioned after their loss in World War I, the citizens looked towards the new
Weimar Republic for a

Civilization And Civilization Summary
In Civilization and Discontents, Sigmund Freud analyzes the relationship between individuals and
civilization and how it relates to his theory of instincts and the individual psyche. The viewpoint of
civilization and the individuals residing in it changed after the First World War when death became
anonymous with the use of new war tactics and weapons such as trench warfare, machine guns, and
tanks. Many were left unsettled at the savagery that the modern man was capable of. The idea of
civilization and the actions individuals made became more complex and Freud s theory of instincts
began to become pertinent to the times. Freud believed that the human psyche is composed of three
distinct parts; id, ego, and superego. Id is the set of unconscious desires that are deep within an
individual, called the subconscious (Offman Lecture 6). This first part of the human psyche is
primitive and is made up of all inherited components of personality that can be found at birth. Freud
believed that the id could not be controlled beyond certain limits and that it was part of your instinct
that is found within all individuals living in any type of civilization (Freud 101). The id of each
individual is described by Freud as never before been touched by the external world, therefore it will
not change over time or with an individual s life experiences. The id believes that every sensation of
pain of or unpleasure should be removed and avoided at all costs (Freud 15). This is what Freud

How The Environment Affects A Person And Many Places
Places have a lot of significance tied to them depending on what they mean to people. The place that I
am going to talk about in this paper reminds me of a peaceful place, because it has provided me with
comfort and has allowed me to grow within this calm place. Oxford Dictionary defines place as A
building or area used for a specified purpose or activity: the town has many excellent eating places .
Specific memories link with certain places that individuals go to, and have had them shape them into
who they are, or have guided them into having a better understanding with what brings them peace. It
has been shown that places actually do bring a certain emotion or feeling onto a person, almost like an
extra sense. Modern science is confirming that people s thoughts, feelings and actions are indeed
shaped not by just their genes and neurochemistry, history and relationships but also by their
surroundings. How the environment affects a person and several places that are considered by some
cultures to be sacred and discussed. (Gallagher, 1993, p. 62)
A place that has an importance to me is the park behind Parkwood hospital. It has a field with
beautiful flowers that you can admire all day long, and there are also walkways with a tiny waterfall
followed with a couple of benches to be able to sit down and admire the scenery. On the other side of
it, there are picnic tables and areas for families to come together and spend time with each other while

Fathers and Songs by Ivan Turgenev Essay
Fathers and Sons is a novel written by Russian author Ivan Turgenev and originally published in 1862.
Emerging in tsarist Russia during the realism period of literature, Turgenev examines the subject of
changing generations in his novel. In Fathers and Sons the new generation is represented by the
characters Arkady Nikolaevich Kirsanov and Evgeny Vasilich Bazarov, recent university graduates
and self proclaimed nihilists. Nihilism, a term popularized by Turgenev himself, is a broad
philosophical school of thought that debases traditional values of life. Fathers and Sons was both
written during and set in a time when nihilism movements in Russia were gaining a strong following.
Throughout the novel Turgenev uses a combination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, interposed Pavel Petrovich, yes; you were convinced of all this, and decided not to undertake
anything seriously, yourselves. We decided not to undertake anything, replied Bazarov grimly. (48)
When Bazarov begins to expound on his philosophy, nihilism is not presented as wholly detrimental.
He simply disavows frivolity, values practicality and thinks life to be simply a question of getting
bread to eat (48). But Bazarov and Arkady make no attempt to improve conditions as they see them.
They believe that the society that has been built is superficial and antiquated and must be brought
down, but have no plans to undertake any sort of reconstruction: We shall destroy, because we are a
force, observed Arkady. (49). Turgenev shows nihilism to be a destructive force only, incapable of
engineering anything better than that which it seeks to destroy.
However, throughout the novel, Arkady is fraught with internal conflict over his philosophy, and
begins to slowly stray from his tenets. When staying at his father s, Arkady makes a point of a
defending Pavel to Bazarov. Pavel is very much the opposite of Bazarov (who is Turgenev s
embodiment of nihilism), acting always with an air of

Earlier Heinz was a leverage buyout in 2013 through 3G Capital by Berkshire Hathaway. On the other
hand Kraft Food Group was formed in October 2012, after a spin off from international snack food
company Mondelēz International (MDLZ).
As per the deal shareholders of Heinz in total will have a 51% stake overall. To neutralise the deal
somewhat in favour of Kraft Foods Co also, Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital paid a one time cash
dividend , which meant that one share of Kraft Foods came equal to one share of Kraft Heinz
Company.
Merger proves to be beneficial for both the companies as Heinz 61% sales from outside North
America and on the other hand Kraft Foods sales is covered by 98% from North America for the
revenues in the fiscal year 2014. This gives a big boost for the Kraft Food to enter and tap the

Paul Harvey s Speech So God Made A Farmer
The Man of Steel On his talk show Paul Harvey had one famous speech So God made a Farmer. In the
speech he describes a farmer as firm but caring, He says, . . . It had to be somebody who d plow deep
and straight and not cut corners; somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed and rake and disc and plow...So
God made a Farmer. John Deere has helped farmers accomplished many of those things he listed
seeding, weeding, and plowing. Plowing might be last on the list for Paul Harvey, but it is the first
accomplishment of John Deere which turned into to a big and outstanding company. John Deere
created the first steel plow in a little blacksmith shop in Illinois. Farmers had a great deal of problems
when it came to plowing. The plow would try to get through the dark and rich dirt. Then in a matter of
moments, the plow would be full of dirt that farmers would have to quit plowing and scrape off the
dirt (OH, DEERE). The black soil is what caused the plow to get full of wet dense dirt which that
called Gumbo (John Deere, That s Who). John Deere decided he wants to enhance the plow (OH,
DEERE). John Deere fiddled with the steel blades off of a sawmill, he thought that the curved and
shiny might go through the gumbo (John Deere, That s Who). To get started, John Deere first used a
saw blade, then he modified it by cutting the teeth off. That creates a ... Show more content on

Approximately 1,600 plows were made in the year of 1850 (John Deere). John Deere also started
making many different tools to help improve the steel plow for farmers. With the changing of

John Deere has delivered innovative products of superior quality built on a tradition of integrity, says

Topic My meniscus injury and the processes in which I went through
Intro About a year and a half ago I was training pretty hard to get into shape for the fire academy here

experienced some pain in my left knee, about a month later It still hurt so i went to the doctor and after
an MRI it was determined that I may have torn my meniscus and I would not be able to attend the
academy until it healed. Today im going to go over some knowledge I gained about these types of

The Economic Impact Of Sports And Its Impact On The World
Sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes
against another or others for entertainment. Nelson Mandela said sport has the power to change the
world, and just like many South Africans who see him as a legend and the great man he is, I believe
this statement. Sport is a very beautiful and influential phase of entertainment. More and more people
in the world follow sports and even more people benefit from it one way or the other.
Sports can impact many aspects in life. From one person, to a whole nation of people and to the whole
world. That is how powerful it is. Through my research I have discovered that there are only two main
ways sports can impact a nation. Sports can have an economic and or a social impact on a nation and
they could either be positive and or negative influences. I will be ... Show more content on

Some economic impacts/influences can be bad and some can be good, depending on what we look at.
Individual, club and National team success leads to people being hopeful and confident about the
future. This optimism encourages people to invest in a lot of sporting merchandise such as soccer
boots or team shirts and it will also encourage them to follow a lot more sports and encourage the
person or team their supporting to do better and they will want to win more. All of this will stimulate
the economy.
Hosting a major sporting event such as a World cup which South Africa did in the year 2010 will also
attract many high profile tourists who will pump extra money into the economy. Many Africans used
the world cup as an opportunity to make a lot of money. They sold a lot of sporting merchandise and
vuvuzelas where a big hit at the time.
Many people make money because of sports, especially businesses, teams and individual sportsman.
South African businesses can use sports to advertise too. Sports is such a large

An Effective Technique For An Organization
Changes affect every person in a business, including the managers and the employees. Managing
modifications in a business can be difficult and countless people within an organization can be
resistant for various reasons. Participation is considered an effective technique for reducing resistance
to change, other techniques includes education and communication, facilitation and support, and
negotiation.
Change in a business can be uncomfortable since it requires surrendering a certain way of thinking
and performing processes and implementing a novel way to accomplish a business goal. Encouraging
employees to participate in the alteration can be one of the utmost ways to reduce the resistance to
change. An employee who participates in the process of the conversion is further likely to embrace the
change. Therefore, one way is to encompass groups that will be affected by innovative procedures in
the development of fresh ideas. In other words, ask workers for their opinions and suggestions and
integrate their solutions. If people are given the opportunity to seize responsibility for specific parts of
a program their sense of ownership will craft stronger advocates. Also valuable input can be gained
from employees who really perform the day to day work as management may not have the
information needed to change the design. Before making slight adjustments anyone who will be
affected or who opposes the transformation should be brought into the decision making process,
provided they

William Golding Influence On Lord Of The Flies
Boom! Pow! Gerrah! These are the sounds that William Golding heard when he landed on the beaches
of Normandy. William Golding was a controversial writer during the 20th century writing the famous
novel Lord of the Flies. William Golding s experiences in the navy heavily influenced the writing of
his world renowned novel The Lord of the Flies; however, he still received a fair share of controversy,
but is now praised for his insight into human note. William Golding s experiences in the navy
influenced his writing after he landed of the shores of Normandy during D Day and witnessed all the
horrible scenes during World War II. Golding was born on September 19, 1911, in Saint Columb
Minor, Cornwall, England. His mother, Mildred, was an active suffragette who fought for women s
right to vote. His dad, Alex, worked as a teacher. William Golding says, William went to ... Show

When William was just twelve years old, he attempted, unsuccessfully, to write a novel (Authors
Artists 100). He became frustrated and found an outlet in bullying his peers. William went on to attend
Brasenose College at Oxford University ( Lord of the Flies 175). His father had hoped he would
become a scientist, but William opted to study English literature instead ( William Golding Gale 2).
Fresh out of college, Golding found a job as a schoolmaster teaching young boys. According to
William Golding , he worked at the Bishop Wordsworth s School in Salisbury. He didn t enjoy
teaching and only did it to support himself and his new wife, Ann Brookfield (William Golding 101).
Lord of the Flies says, after 5 years of teaching, in 1940, Golding temporarily abandoned his teaching
profession and joined the Royal Navy in World War II . During World War II, he fought battleships at
the sinking of the Bismarck, and fended off submarines and planes. This led him to

Altruism And It s Causes
In this paper, I will be discussing the concept of altruism and it s causes in relation to a story of a bus
driver who risked her own life to save the children she was transporting. To achieve this goal I will:
define the necessary concepts (part I), provide examples demonstrating the differing causes of altruism
and how they relate to the event in question (part II), and refer to conducted research which supports
and further describes the actions taken in my chosen event (part III). While there are many persons
who acted altruistically in the following story, I have decided to narrow the scope of this paper to the
acts of one Renita Smith so as to enable a greater level of precision in my attribution and explanation
of the relevant concepts.
Event Summary
Whilst going through her elementary school bus route, Renita Smith, the bus driver, was alerted to a
beeping sound coming from her dashboard before she detected the scent of smoke. Only mere
moments later, the bus, which was carrying 20 children, caught aflame. In the released dashcam
footage, the bus in question can be seen entirely engulfed by a thick, black smoke and fire. Without
waiting to consider options, Smith immediately stopped the bus and began escorting the children off
of it. Surrounding neighbours and drivers ran to the aid of the children, ensuring that they made it a
safe distance away. It was Smith, however, who risked her own life through repeatedly entering the
flaming bus until she was certain that not

This is because if you refer back to Graph 1.1 for example it is clear that there is a relative and steady increase in the rate of reaction as the concentration of catalase was increased. Although in part A, the results were fairly reliable and they clearly show the average increase in part B, one can see that the results that were obtained during the experiment were outliers of each other. Looking back at the table from part B when the 80% concentration of catalase was placed into the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide + 10% Copper II Sulphate the results of time it took for the filter disk to reach the top seemed to be unreasonable. In trial 1 and 2 the time that was recorded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the comparison of the two reactions occurring with the 80% in part A and B it makes sense that the rate of reaction in part B is slower because of the non competitive inhibitor that was acting upon the catalase. But, the rate of reaction seems to be too low for the result too be realistic indicating a human error and causing it to be slightly unreliable. Failing to change the hydrogen peroxide from part A to a new solution in part B may be an example of human error. An experimental error that may have affected the results obtained during the experiment was the labs failure to mention to mix the two substances, hydrogen peroxide and copper II sulphate in part B. Failure to mention this simple instruction may have led to the outliers in time retrieved in part B for the experiment. In the first trial when the filter timed out at 240 seconds at the bottom of the beaker, it may have been caused by the un dissolved copper II sulphate still at the bottom of the beaker. Another experimental error was that during the experiment it was stated that if one was able to hurry and do the first two trials quickly then there may be time for a third ... • 5. Essay about Laurentian Bakeries Question 1: Explain the theoretical rationale for the NPV approach to investment appraisal and compare the strengths and weaknesses of the NPV approach to two other commonly used approaches. (30 marks) This first section of this paper will provide a brief explanation on theoretical rationale for the net present value (NPV) method of investment appraisal and then compare its strengths and weaknesses to two alternative methods of investment appraisal, those of internal rate of return (IRR) and pay back. Theoretical rationale for the NPV approach The net present value rule or NPV devised by Hirshleifer (1958), is the fundamental model of how firms decide whether to invest in a project, commonly known as the investment decision , or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... G is also happy to invest because they can borrow against the future payoff of the investment. By investing G gets £20,000 more to spend today (£200,000 less £180,000). It would pay for either investor to borrow to invest in the opportunity due to the returns on offer. Despite the reality of known imperfections in capital markets (e.g. taxation, transaction costs, asymmetric information), overall the use of NPV makes sense as a corporate objective. Certain imperfections can be modelled into financials, providing a more realistic picture. Brealey et al (2008) state that the use of NPV for uncertain cash flows makes sense too, providing there is free access to competitive capital markets. This is due to when affirm chooses only positive NPV projects, they will be meeting the shareholders and firms objective of maximising wealth. The higher the processor rate, the faster in which a processor can process information and thus the quicker it will be. In some instances, individuals boost clock speed by overclocking, a term used to push the clock speed beyond the manufacturers recommendation. This is common for those who use their computers for gaming. However, doing so will void the warranty and can overheat the CPU. Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2), stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. When there is Level 3 (L3) cache, L3 cache will be on a separate chip and L1 and L2 will be built onto the CPU. More cache memory will allow a processor to be more powerful. RAM is known as Random Access Memory. This is the temporary memory space for a computer. The more RAM you have the more programs you can have operating at the same time. It temporarily houses the instructions and information the computer is currently using but only does so when the computer on. When the power is off, any data on the RAM is wiped clean. Boys and Girls is a short story that evokes a realistic rather than romantic view of a girl s journey towards finding herself. This short story includes the fight for her gender, and her struggle with her identity. Also, in addition to these two defining aspects, this short story contains the realistic account of who and what she is to become. Clearly one of the main themes evident in this short story, the battle with her identity and gender is quickly made apparent. A true feminist at heart, the author believes that women are caged creatures, not unlike the foxes, and that the power than men have over women is something that desperately needs to change. The identity of the girl is associated heavily with men because the author wants women to be independent. The girl in the story therefore continues to value and be proud of all the work that she does for her father, but also continues to defy her mother and the fact that she is a girl. Her dreams are filled with stories of grand adventures where she plays the heroic rescuer and takes everyone to safety. However, as she grows and begins to notice the difference between boys and girls, her dreams become less involved with being the rescuer as being the one rescued. Perhaps this is because the feminine instinct inside of her is beginning to develop, or maybe just because she in giving in to the inevitable. Whatever the reason, the gender issues that the girl experiences are closely entwined with the identity uncertainties that she has about herself. The girl in this story is faced with the harsh reality of who she really is, and more importantly, who she is expected to become. In her struggle to identify with her father, she is faced with the extraordinary task of accepting who she is, and not who she wants to be. As seen in Popper s falsification theory, he held that theories can never be proved only disproved or falsified. Once a theory is proved false we move on to the next. Kuhn, on the other, hand argued a new paradigm may solve puzzles better than the old one but you cannot describe the old science as false. Both seem to share the Kantian idea that the really real, independently existing world is completely unknowable. Kuhn further asserts that the empirical world, which is knowable, is partly constructed by our categories and concepts. The fundamental difference in their views are best stated in Kuhn s own words, A very different approach to this whole network of problems has been developed by Karl R. Popper who denies the existence of any verification procedures at all. Instead he emphasizes the importance of falsification, i.e., of the test that, because its outcome is negative, necessitates the rejection of an established theory. Clearly, the role thus attributed to falsification is much like the one this essay assigns to anomalous experiences, i.e., to experiences that, by evoking crisis, prepare the way for a new theory. Nevertheless, anomalous experiences may not be identified with falsifying ones. (Kuhn, 145) As seen by this passage, the fundamental difference between Popper and Kuhn is that Popper disregards verification and Kuhn asserts that falsification only takes place once a ... Puritan Depravity and Distrust in Young Goodman Brown Puritan doctrine taught that all men are totally depraved and require constant self examination to see that they are sinners and unworthy of God s Grace. Because man had broken the Covenant of Works when Adam had eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, God offered a new covenant to Abraham s people which held that election to Heaven was merely a possibility. In the Puritan religion, believers dutifully recognized the negative aspects of their humanity rather than the gifts they possessed. Hawthorne sets Young Goodman Brown into a context of Puritan rigidity and self doubt to allow his contemporary readers to see the consequences of such a system of belief. Hawthorne s tale places the newly wed Puritan Brown upon the road to what may or may not be a true conversion experience. The conversion experience a sudden realization brought about by divine intervention, a vision, or perhaps a dream easily translates into the dream allegory of Hawthorne s work and allows the author to use Puritan doctrine and the history of Salem to argue the merits and consequences of such a belief. Major issues and themes of Puritanism must have been researched and delicately placed into Hawthorne s discussion of not only past consequences of Puritan zeal but also on the contemporary religious issue of his own time, the Second Great Awakening. Much like the nighttime witches Sabbath that awaits Goodman Brown, the tent revivals of the 1820 s and 1830 s could be seen by the questioning Hawthorne as another attempt by the church to sway its membership towards total obedience and faith. Talia Kaufmann Literature II Prof. Logan Esdale 5th October 2016 The Question of Racial Identity Set at the dawn of the Reconstruction period, a time of supposed national renewal and modernization, Charles Chesnutt s The House Behind the Cedars exposes the reality of an utterly medieval post Civil War South. Chesnutt explores the role of race in shaping one s true identity through the experiences of two bi racial siblings, John and Rena Walden, as they transcend the biological color barrier. Inspired by her older brother s decade of splendid success living as an apparently pure white man, an existence free of all the restrictions she encounters as a bi racial individual, Rena agrees to abandon and reject her black identity with devastating consequences. A largely didactic novel, driven by Chesnutt s motivation to explore the nuances of racial identity in an era in which racial identity was presumed to be a biological certainty, Rena s character and the devastating conflicts she faces are his vehicle to portray his own deeply personal journey of self identification. The House Behind the Cedars serves as a metaphor for Chesnutt s own life and the internal struggles he faced as a biracial individual. Chesnutt achieves both a certain omnipresence and intimacy in his writing through the integration of elements of his personal biography into the novel. Much of the novel and its mulatto protagonists, Rena and John, are based on Chesnutt s life as a bi racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Allegory Of The Cave In the allegory of the cave Plato tries to show us two scenarios where the prisoners experience emotional and intellectual revelations throughout their lives. Plato s theory was that the ones who truly understand knowledge should guide the ignorant people out of their unenlightened states of being and into true knowledge. The cave symbolizes the people who think that knowledge come from what they see and hear in the world. It also indicates people that make assumptions about life based on the substantial things they experience through hearing and seeing. Plato s main focus was to convey a story to the world about the difference between beliefs and truth. Anyone can believe in something they see, but that belief is really just a shadow of the truth. Already from Plato s illustration of the prisoners, one can tell that they have very little knowledge of their surroundings. Their lack of knowledge restricts them from knowing what s going on in the real world. The prisoner s assumption of reality is all the shadows that appear on the wall. As far as life goes, they believe the shadows are all there is and they don t question it. Plato referred to it as eikasia signifying the lowest level of knowledge. The prisoners don t know any better so they don t strive to observe anything else other than the shadows and the noises. Napoleon Bonaparte was a man that genuinely understood his own motives and ambitions. He was able to foster the motive of saving France from the bloody French Revolution and ambition of gaining power by utilizing revolutionary ideas combined with his own to accumulate power and stability of imperial rule. The major function of haemoglobin is to transport oxygen (O2) from the lungs. The haemoglobin and oxygen combination is called oxyhaemoglobin, Haemoglobin that has released oxygen is called reduced haemoglobin or deoxyhaemoglobin which has a high affinity for co2 (Marieb, 2014).for this reason oxygen is bind to the oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs and carried through the blood stream to the tissues. Oxygen is then released to myoglobin (a red protein containing haem that carries and stores oxygen in muscle cells) which is further transported in to the mitochondria be used for aerobic respiration, in exchange the deoxyhemoglobin picks up 2 protons and 2 molecules and returns to the lungs where it is released through exhalation. (McDowall, 2005) Structure of haemoglobin is composed of four polypeptides, two identical chains called the alpha polypeptide chains consisting of 141 amino acids each and beta polypeptide chains containing 146 amino acids each. Alpha and Beta each contain 8 helical segments. There are four globin chains each composed of four heme groups attached to each of the four histidines. that combines with four molecules of oxygen (see figure 1). [1] However, it is not actually sunspot activity that effects the Earth s power grid and satellite communications, [2] but rather the solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that can be caused by sunspots that cause problems. [3] Solar flares are eruptions of energy from the sun s surface. Quickly reaching temperatures of 10 to 20 million Kelvin, these flares can rise thousands of kilometres above the chromosphere, and can release energies of up to 6 x 1025 joules (equivalent to the energy of a few million volcanic eruptions on the earth ) [4]. Solar flares have three classifications: X, M, and C class. X class solar flares are the largest of the three, and also have the largest impact on Earth, causing long lasting radiation storms in the upper atmosphere, and causing radio blackouts. M class solar flares are less powerful than X class, however they can still cause the occasional radiation storm, and brief radio blackouts in the polar regions. In the Dominican Republic there are many Taboos when it comes to homosexuality. This means that people try to cover and make their kids think that it does not exist. It is difficult there to see two men holding hands walking on the street or to hear about someone that is homosexual. Also religion plays the biggest role in this topic. In my culture it is believed that God will punish people with sexual desire toward someone of the same sex. My father used to tell me male chauvinist things like, men don t cry or men don t feel any pain, and that is not true. The problem with these is that, imagine a child in school crying for some reason, the other kids are going to call him name because they learned that crying is not a characteristic of a man. This is a conduct learned through several generations, and it is not changing any time soon. 2. There is not one person in the world that loves you more than your mother. Practice in management There has been a long debate about the functions of leadership and management. Kotter (1990) argued the goal of leadership is to pursue the adaptive and constructive changes and the purpose of management is to acquire stability and consistency. In addition, he suggested that the process of leadership is to influence others and management is to maintain operations and accomplish goals. • 38. The Weimar Government And The Causes Of The Weimar Republic While war reparations rocked the Weimar Republic, debt wracked the farmers in the French Republic, leading to dissent and disillusionment amongst the citizens. In this period of instability, the inability of the republics to propose legislation without dissent opened way for new leaders taking advantage of the situation, promising a more unified and better society. With the fall of major monarchies, both France and Germany strived to create representative governments that listened to the needs of the people. However, that did not work out as intended, with the government focusing more on the upper class rather than the peasants that made up the majority of the fledgling republic s population. For example, the Constitution of 1793, advocated by Maximilien Robespierre, granted universal suffrage for men. Even with the increased rights for the people, the government did not ratify legislation that appealed to the majority of the population, the peasants. Instead, legislation that abolished property requirements for farmers, de christianized society, and created a republic calendar did not appeal to the farmers swimming in debt with a lack of food on the table (Tocqueville). As a result, the new republic enabled the common people to voice out against them, rather than for them. After a few centuries, the Weimar Republic faced a similar situation. • 41. Civilization And Civilization Summary In Civilization and Discontents, Sigmund Freud analyzes the relationship between individuals and civilization and how it relates to his theory of instincts and the individual psyche. The viewpoint of civilization and the individuals residing in it changed after the First World War when death became anonymous with the use of new war tactics and weapons such as trench warfare, machine guns, and tanks. Many were left unsettled at the savagery that the modern man was capable of. The idea of civilization and the actions individuals made became more complex and Freud s theory of instincts began to become pertinent to the times. Freud believed that the human psyche is composed of three distinct parts; id, ego, and superego. Id is the set of unconscious desires that are deep within an individual, called the subconscious (Offman Lecture 6). This first part of the human psyche is primitive and is made up of all inherited components of personality that can be found at birth. Freud believed that the id could not be controlled beyond certain limits and that it was part of your instinct that is found within all individuals living in any type of civilization (Freud 101). The id of each individual is described by Freud as never before been touched by the external world, therefore it will not change over time or with an individual s life experiences. The id believes that every sensation of pain of or unpleasure should be removed and avoided at all costs (Freud 15). This is what Freud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The place that I am going to talk about in this paper reminds me of a peaceful place, because it has provided me with comfort and has allowed me to grow within this calm place. Oxford Dictionary defines place as A building or area used for a specified purpose or activity: the town has many excellent eating places . Specific memories link with certain places that individuals go to, and have had them shape them into who they are, or have guided them into having a better understanding with what brings them peace. It has been shown that places actually do bring a certain emotion or feeling onto a person, almost like an extra sense. Modern science is confirming that people s thoughts, feelings and actions are indeed shaped not by just their genes and neurochemistry, history and relationships but also by their surroundings. How the environment affects a person and several places that are considered by some cultures to be sacred and discussed. • 51. Altruism And It s Causes In this paper, I will be discussing the concept of altruism and it s causes in relation to a story of a bus driver who risked her own life to save the children she was transporting. To achieve this goal I will: define the necessary concepts (part I), provide examples demonstrating the differing causes of altruism and how they relate to the event in question (part II), and refer to conducted research which supports and further describes the actions taken in my chosen event (part III). While there are many persons who acted altruistically in the following story, I have decided to narrow the scope of this paper to the acts of one Renita Smith so as to enable a greater level of precision in my attribution and explanation of the relevant concepts. Event Summary Whilst going through her elementary school bus route, Renita Smith, the bus driver, was alerted to a beeping sound coming from her dashboard before she detected the scent of smoke. Only mere moments later, the bus, which was carrying 20 children, caught aflame. In the released dashcam footage, the bus in question can be seen entirely engulfed by a thick, black smoke and fire.
