Introduction to Noise and Vibration Damping
INTRODUCTION TO NOISE AND VIBRATION DAMPING
Vibrations are undesirable for structures, due to the need for structural stability, position control,
durability, performance, and noise reduction. Vibrations are concern to large structures such as aircraft
and small structures such as electronics.
Reduction of Vibration can be attained by increasing damping capacity and increasing the stiffness.
The loss modulus is the product of these two quantities and thus can be considered a figure of merit
for the vibration reduction ability.
Structural damping can be achieved by passive or active methods. Passive methods use the inherent
ability of certain materials (it can be structural or non structural materials) to absorb the vibrational
energy (example, through mechanical deformation), which provides passive energy dissipation. An
active method uses sensors and actuators to attain vibration sensing and activation to suppress the
vibration in real time. The sensors and actuators are usually piezoelectric devices. This review is
focused on materials for passive damping, due to its relatively low cost and ease of implementation
Materials for vibration damping are mainly metals and polymers, due to their viscoelastic character.
Rubber is commonly used as a vibration damping material due to its viscoelasticity. Though,
viscoelasticity is not the only mechanism for damping. Defects such as dislocations, phase boundaries,
grain boundaries and various interfaces also contribute to damping,

The First Amendment Of The Fourth Amendment
Protection against unreasonable search and seizures is like information on what is in our food. It is our
right as Americans to have it. When the Constitution was written in 1787, only nine of the thirteen
colonies signed it. Ever since 1789, the Bill of Rights which includes the first ten amendments have
been a part of the Constitution. The citizens did not want the government to be able to enter their
homes whenever they felt the need to, thus Amendment four was born. According to the National
Archives, Amendment four is: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers,
and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall
issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place
to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. This means that police officers cannot enter
someone s house or search someone s things without a warrant, and the warrant must be for a good
reason. There have been many changes involving this amendment due to many modern things that
have been invented since the amendment was first written, for example, cell phones and automobiles.
These modern effects cause us to reassess the fourth amendment and what it means. According to The
Foundation for Economic Education, James Otis, who was an advocate for Amendment four stated, A
man s house is his castle; and whilst he is quiet, he is as well guarded as a prince in his castle.

Roman Empire War Horses
Horses are stunning creatures used across the world for centuries, and even in the Roman empire. In
ancient Rome, horses were mainly used for chariots, hauling supplies, and light skirmishes. The
Romans particular favorite breeds were Andalusians, Dales Ponies, Arabians, Camargues, and
Galician Ponies. Rome learned about horses from Greeks and of how to best uses the different breeds
also how to efficiently train them. Horses were chosen for their stable temperament, great stamina,
resistance of extreme environments, and their ability to sustain depletion of food. Horses have aided in
wars, and transportation, without these amazing creatures Rome would have not been so successful ...

Though there origins are relatively unknown, the breed is one of the oldest horse in the world.
Camargues for centuries lived in harsh environments in marshes and wetlands of Rhone delta. These
horses are born black or dark brown but as they grow to adulthood their coat lightens to grey which
means under their grey coat is black skin. This breed is small, standing only 13.1 to 14.3hh ( 65 to 70
in.) at the withers and weighs from 770 to 1,100 pounds. Though they are small in size they gain in
strength as the can carry a full grown adult. The breed is considered rugged and intelligent with a short
neck, deep chest, compact body, a full mane and tail, well jointed, and strong limbs. The breed was
accepted by Celtic and Roman invaders that entered the Iberian peninsula and are closely related to
Iberian horse breeds. Romans used Camargues along with Andalusian, Arabians and other breeds to

Magnets
Magnets have been mysterious and strange for many years, but humans have slowly learned more
about them. Temporary magnets are metals that can temporarily be magnetized. Permanent magnets
are magnets that can be aligned and made into magnets using other magnets, such as iron and nickel.

Some magnets are very strong, such as electromagnets. You might think they are hard to make but
they are fairly easy. Just take a metal a wrap it with some copper wire until you can barely see the
metal then, run electricity through the copper wire. The metal will act like it is a permanent magnet. ...

The origin of Earth s magnetic field has not been discovered but it is thought to be made from the
spinning of the iron and nickel and the core of earth, anyways earth has a magnetic field. It is
constantly changing every million years the poles switch. so north is south and south is north. The
magnetic field is like the wake of a ship caused by the solar wind. Like pouring water down a slope
that has an object in the way, the water will go around just like the magnetic field of earth bends away

Before magnets people had to use stars to find direction, so people tried to find new ways to find
directions. People had already found a rock that could pull other rocks towards itself. Earth is a rock,
maybe it could pull itself toward earth. So the magnetic compass was born, the north side of the

Mary Godwin Research Paper
Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin was born on August 30th 1797 in London, England
She was daughter of political writer and philosopher William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, a
famed feminist
Mary Wollstonecraft died from giving birth to Mary Godwin. Because of this, William had to care for
Mary and her half sister Fanny Imlay. Fanny is Mary s daughter from a previous affair she had.
In 1801, William got married to Mary Jane Clairmont, who also had two kids. After they got married,
they had a kid together. Mary did not like Clairmont. This was because Clairmont sent off Mary s half
sister, Jane, to a school, but felt that she didn t need to educate Shelley at all. Despite this, Mary
sought to educate herself, and made use of her father s large library, reading an exuberant number of
books.
In 1814, she started dating poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Percy was a student of William Godwin.
However, Mary and Percy could not marry because Percy was still married to his first wife, and later
they fled to England with Mary s stepsister Jane. This made Mary s father very angry that she left. ...

When Mary and Percy were in Switzerland, they met with Jane Clairmont, John Polidori, and Lord

of Frankenstein hatched in Mary Shelley s mind. Sadness hit Mary once again, when her stepsister
Fanny killed herself. The sadness was short lived however, because soon after this, Percy s wife killed
herself, and Mary and Percy finally could wed, and they did so in December of

locker that they have been assigned. I did as I was told and once I had brought them to the fourth floor
and preparing them to lay on the bed, an anesthesiologist came in and called the patient who I was
laying down. She had to wait about 2 minutes until the patient was laid down and they had their

The Characteristics Of Gothic Literature In Bram Stoker s...
Gothic literature is a form of literature that combines fiction, horror, death, and sometimes romance.
Gothic novels combine elements of medieval romance with the modern novel because Horace
Walpole; the first known gothic author, deemed medieval romance as too fanciful and modern novels
too realistic. The stories traditionally include a threatening mystery and numerous clues and dramatic
irony. There is also a trend of a monstrosity or monster figure to appear. They do not exude obvious
sources of danger, but the horrors are internalized and discreet. The monster might perhaps live with
its victim, invading domestic spaces and increases the levels of terror. Another trait of gothic literature
includes the psychological traits and ailments that can be attributed to the characters. The psychologic
aspect adds layers of complexity and depth, enhancing the plots in Gothic literature from a two
dimensional horror story to a multi dimensional exposé on the human condition. Additionally, lead
characters often represent the zeitgeist, the spirit of the time, with their occupations, familial
structures, and personality traits. Psychology offers insights towards the scope of cultural change.
In Bram Stoker s gothic novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker falls victim to a vampire while attempting to
finalize a real estate deal for his boss. He travels from London to Transylvania to stay for few days in
the property that he is dealing with. Throughout the novel, Harker exhibits narcissistic traits that
parallel with the victorian era s zeitgeist of a dominant male figure. Harker s self obsession blinds him
from very apparent warnings. Had he either acknowledged or heeded these warnings, he could have
prevented a string of deaths and tragedy. Because Harker is so absorbed in his assumed role in society,
he risks the lives of himself and others. Narcissism is a psychological condition that was first
identified in 1898, one year after Dracula s publication. The root of the word comes from the Greek
God Narcissus, a huntry from Thespiae who was known for beauty. He was proud and scorned those
who loved him. Narcissus was attracted to a pool where he viewed his own reflection in the water and
fell in love with it. He was

Pre-Litigation Research Paper
Pre Litigation: What Happens Before Filing a Lawsuit?
Going to court is usually the last step in a long process of trying to settle a dispute. There are usually
several steps taken before a lawsuit is even filed with the courts. These steps help both parties prepare
for the lawsuit. It also opens up opportunities to settle the dispute without the need to go to court.
Notice
When one party has a complaint or dispute with another party, the first step in the process is formal
notification. This often comes in the form of a notice letter sent by the injured party s attorney to the
other party, his attorney, and his insurance company. This notice outlines what the dispute is about. It
may also request information on insurance coverage, policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
The demand can take several forms. It may be a claim that goes to the other party s insurance
company. It may be a letter going straight to the other party demanding compensation for the injury.
The demand may be a simple letter or it may be a multi page document with copies of the information
gathered during the investigation.
Trying to Settle
The formal demand usually brings an opportunity to settle the case before filing suit. In many cases,
these settlement negotiations are informal, involving discussions between the attorneys, insurance
representatives, and clients. It may be a time when one party makes a settlement offer. Counteroffers
and settlement rejections can also happen.
More formal dispute resolution solutions are also available, including mediation. With mediation, a
neutral third party works with the injured party and the defendant to reach a negotiated settlement.
If a case cannot be settled, the next step is to file a formal lawsuit.

Why Did Islam Spread Quickly Dbq Analysis
In 610 CE, a merchant named muhammad was meditating in a cave on mount. Hira found in the
Arabian Peninsula when the archangel Gabriel came with a message for muhammad telling him to
believe in the one and only true god Allah, therefore creating the religion of Islam. Over the years
Islam grew but Islam spread much more quickly than other religions, but why? Some historians
believe that it spread quickly because of military conquest, while others are certain it was because of
trade routes all around the 3 continents. Then again it could have also been because of
treaties, taxes, and tolerations. Military Conquest,Treaties and Taxes and Tolerations, and trade routes
were the 3 most believed reasons on why Islam spread so fast. Trade Routes might have been the most
explainable reason for the quick growth of Islam. Trade routes(doc A) might have been the most

Plato, Locke, And The Question Of Innate Ideas
Plato, Locke and the Question of Innate Ideas
Plato and Locke have opposite opinions on the matter of innate ideas. Plato argues that the recognition
of truth in reality is derived from the recollection of truth in the soul. A necessary part of Plato s
argument is that recollection of Truth depends upon the existence of an immortal soul. Locke, on the
other hand, rejects Plato s argument by stating that the recognition of truth is not dependent on
recollection but is rather self evident. In other words, Locke argues that one does not need to
understand truth to know it or admit of the existence of an immortal soul, for truth according to Locke
reveals itself by virtue of its being true. This paper will analyze the arguments of each philosopher and
show why I believe Plato to have the better argument on the matter of recollection and innate ideas in
the soul.
Analysis of Plato s Doctrine of Recollection in Meno and Phaedo Plato states that all inquiry and all
learning is but recollection (81). Socrates uses Meno s slave to show that knowledge comes from
recollection. This is Plato s way of stating that recognition of truth depends on the use of one s
intellect. Truth may be understood as the conformity of intellect with reality. By using his intellect,
Meno s slave recognizes the truth of the measurement of squares drawn by Socrates. Socrates calls
this action recollection. The act of recollecting, or using the intellect, is defined by Socrates as one

today s world are heavily influenced by the culture, heritage, and history of the Mestizo race and their
Spanish counterparts. The video then explains that the Mestizo race came into existence after the
Spaniards had children with the Natives of the New World . Next, the film highlights the differences

As the Church came into power in the fourth century, it turned on the synagogues with even greater
intensity. Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating, thanks to the influence the bishops had in
the political arena. Laws were passed making it a capital offense for any Jew to make a convert, they
were excluded from various professions, denied all civil honors, and their autonomy of worship was

To put Kakutani s review in one word would be spot on correct. Kakutani somehow takes all of the
messages, symbols and themes in The Lovely Bones and crams them into a short paragraph. Overall,
Kakutani s review was heartfelt and a magnificent interpretation of The Lovely Bones. Karen
Sandstrom from the Cleveland Plain Dealer speaks ignorantly of The Lovely Bones: She says, Here is
a writer who honors fiction s primary gift the infinity of possibilities by following her imagination to
wondrous and terrifying places ( What Readers and... ii). Had Ms. Karen Sandstrom done some
background work on Alice Sebold, she would have discovered that Sebold was a rape victim. This
knowledge would have pointed her in a new direction. This direction would have changed Sandstrom
s original review. Considering that Sebold was a rape victim herself, she would not have had to
imagine the tragedy and heartache that Suzie went through, since she experienced the horror for
herself. In

Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment
Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment:
In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety assessment for the
product. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector
to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved
sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to
regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG.
A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into the
environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will cause
unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid with
suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence,
which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene.
The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its physiological
function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the
chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be
activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells
and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die.

The Federal Government And Education System
The Federal Government and Education Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution declares that the US
Government is responsible to tax the people for the general welfare of its citizens . Under this clause,
the Government has taken the responsibility of education; not to micro manage the education system,
but instead to increase the efficiency of it. In the past, states and local governments have maintained
primary control of the education system, which has led to many problems. The differences in
curriculum, quality, and administering as well as other aspects of public education are vastly different
around the country, which has actually inhibited America s ability to succeed. Many of these issues
could be resolved with a shift in power in terms of who is controlling the country s academic system.
The Federal Government should have a significant amount of regulating responsibility in America s
education system, because it standardizes the quality of education across the country, presents an
opportunity of equal education for all students, and regulates teachers. With the Federal Government
regulating education, a national standard of schooling will become available. This means that there
will be set expectations for how well a student does in school as well as standards for a quality
education across the US the education on one side of the country will be exactly the same as on the
other side. Having a national academic standard is important because standards spell out

Elizabeth Browning Research Paper
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born March 6th, 1806 in Durham, England, and passed June 29th,
1861 in Florence, Italy. Browning s death is likely caused by an incurable disorder that plagued all
three sisters in her family, except only lasted with her. Her everlasting suffrage since the age of
thirteen when the symptoms first developed explains why she asked her husband, Robert Browning,
whom she dedicated her poetry, to neither love me for thine own dear pity s wiping my cheeks dry . To
continue, Elizabeth s father did not wish for any of his children to marry, which Elizabeth was
seemingly compliant with, being an invalid thirty nine year old. Therefore, Elizabeth s father and
brothers were quick to disapprove when Robert arrived, deeming him an unreliable fortune hunter. ...

They stood by each other s side with a sense of pleasant ease until Elizabeth s death. In fact, even after
Elizabeth s death, Robert Browning remained a widower, instead of remarrying, and even kept
Elizabeth s ring on his watch chain, proving their love would go on, through love s eternity . During
their time together, the couple had a son in 1849 when Elizabeth was already forty three years old; this
was particularly unusual since the average woman during the Victorian Era had five children, plus the
life expectancy was 40! With Robert s avid support and encouragement, Browning published her most
renowned work in 1850, Sonnets from the Portuguese, chronicling their love with poems such as

Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of...
Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship.
Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the
presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist
without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to
exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and
a sense of connection?
Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something
else.
As Cottone (1988,363) mentions, relationship is what we are born from, nurtured by and getting
educated from. Our existence is defined within the domain of the society, and it is within society
where we interact with others, socialise and satisfy our biological needs. ... Show more content on

From the ancient years, the relationship between two people has healing properties and is the main
influence for changes in people s lives.
Especially, in counselling and psychotherapy, the relationship between client and counsellor is the
most significant part of the therapeutic procedure. Many studies (Buborsky et al. 1983, O Maley et al.
1983, Hill 1989) illustrate that it is the therapeutic relationship more that any other factor, which
determines the effectiveness of counselling therapy. Moreover, literature which reviews the way, in
which clients experience the therapeutic process, indicates that the many of the client s thoughts and
feelings remain unspoken during the counselling sessions. (Dinnage, 1988, Mearns and Dryden,

Dreams And What They Mean
Dreams And What They Mean
Dreams have broader representation than languages can provide. The symbols of our dreams are
deeper expressions than we can come up.
Dreams are lower base layer of processing that cannot easily be interpret in ordinary language.
Since all forms of languages are defined by their limitation, they can only represent a subset of the
messages dreams can convey, and they go much deeper than language. People become bewildered
when they cannot understand the meaning of a dream, simply because they don t have the right skills
to recognise what they express; it is not everyday occurrence they can relate.
Learning to understand your dream is a skill you must learn, no different than learning to speak a
language.
Like any language, they can provide a doorway into your unconscious mind, and how to reach into
your dreams for your benefit. Nobody understands your dreams better than you, and only you can give
a better explanation to their hidden meaning. Since the dream is represented to only you in its vivid
form, only you have exacts dream details, as well as the exact feelings that need decoding.
In helping you with understanding your dreams. This book provides eight of the most common dreams
and how to translate them into their meanings. The meaning of the most common dream are guides,
and in no way provide the final interpretation. They only direct you to your specific answer. It s only

The Role of Beatrice Portinari in Dante The Divine Comedy
Beatrice Portinari is seen throughout the book of Dante The Divine Comedy . She originally meets
Dante in the year 1274, on May Day in Florence, Italy. Beatrice is from a wealthy Florentine family
and was eight years old the first time they meet and did not speak a word to each other (Cotter, 21).
She was the principle inspiration for Dante s La Vita Nuova, a book about Dante s love connection to
her (Passages to the Past). Dante and Beatrice have only met twice, but Dante was so touched by both
meetings he shares his love for Beatrice with the reader. The second encounter occurred when they
passed each other on the streets of Florence. She turned and greeted him; this filled him with such joy
that he ran to his room and started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense Beatrice seems as the only evidence on why Dante should continue his journey through
hell. Beatrice is the reason why Dante even made it through the underworld, by sending a guide down
to help him. Her love for him got him through hell and on to the next chapter of his journey. Beatrice
is seen in Dante s Purgatory when she comes to him in a griffin drawn chariot. She comes down to
Dante wearing a white veil representing faith, a green cape symbolizing hope and underneath the cape
she wore a robe of flaming red signifying burning love. When she first arrives to Dante she comes to
him in a harsh approach, something like an admiral. She does this to try to get a confession out of
Dante, and mention to him that he cannot continue his journey if he is not happy and cleansed
(University of Texas at Austin). Beatrice comes to him and mentions to him that Virgil can no longer
help on his quest, he cannot leave limbo. Beatrice speaks to Dante and tells him to not weep about the
fact that Virgil cannot help him on his journey anymore, but to look forward to the next point in his
journey. She comes to him and tells Dante to wash himself in the waters of Lethe (Kline). This will
cleanse him and take away his sins. She also mentions the waters of Euone will help restore good in
Dante. Beatrice can take Dante on to the next realm through

Religious Freedom And Freedom Of Speech In America
Religious freedom and freedom of speech have been enshrined in American law since the late 18th
century. Both are found in the First Amendment to the US Constitution and have been at the center of
some of the most important Supreme Court cases in history. From Texas v. Johnson to Lemon v.
Kurtzmann, religious freedom and freedom of speech have shaped discourse more so than any other
fundamental rights in America. Yet now more so than ever, the issue of religious belief versus freedom
of speech has permeated American society. This can most clearly be seen in Masterpiece Cakeshop,
Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a highly controversial legal case making its way through
the Supreme Court. Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado began in ... Show more content on

The determination of the commission was upheld by the Colorado Supreme Court and Phillips
appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case in June 2017 (Howe). The
court will hear oral arguments in December 2017 ( Calendar of Events ). The fundamental question at
this point is whether or not businesses can refuse to provide goods and/or services to homosexual
couples. On one side of the issue, one can find those who believe that businesses must be required by
law to provide goods and services to LGBT people upon request. According to this paradigm, a bakery
must provide a wedding cake to an interracial couple regardless of how much that business opposes
interracial marriage. A fundamental part of this point of view is the argument from Civil Rights. In
short, these laws that require businesses to serve all ensure that people previously subject to
discrimination can go about their day to day life, without worrying whether they will be turned away
from a store because of who they are (ACLU Staff). Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is illegal
for businesses to refuse service to any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national
origin (History.com Staff). In the case of Masterpiece v. Colorado, Colorado s Anti Discrimination Act
bars public accommodations from denying service to individuals based on their race, religion, sexual
orientation, and more (One Colorado). In

Then rank the threats in order of probability, begin to consider what you can do to reduce or minimize
your risk from these threats. Put the policies in writing, with clear steps to be taken when a triggering
event occurs. The main thing is to make sure everyone knows their roles and responsibilities. Just like
businesses run fire drills periodically, elements of the IT contingency plan need to be tested to make
sure they re effective. Things change, your plan should adapt as well.
It s not the question of if, it s the question of when something will happen to cause your business some
IT downtime. Your contingency plan is the road map to get your systems back up and running. Things
like equipment failure, theft/vandalism, cybercrime, environmental impacts and human error can all
play a part. You need to assess your current IT infrastructure, rank the threats, and develop an action
plan. Related employees need to know their roles and responsibilities, the plan needs to be
periodically tested (run drills), and it should also be audited to make sure it s

Research Paper On American Cancer Society
American Cancer Society The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a health organization devoted to
treating cancer and cancer awareness. It focuses its efforts to help saves lives, get people well and to
find cures, and to fight back (Wikipedia). The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913, in New
York City. It was originally called the American Society for the Control of Cancer (ASCC) . At the
time the organization was formed, being diagnosis with cancer meant near certain death (ACS). Some
doctors did not tell their patient that they had cancer, and if the patient knew they, did not tell their
friends or family members, so the founders of ACS knew that they had to raise public awareness about
cancer (ACS). ACS is located in many states

Augustine Of Hippo And Lady Julian Of Norwich
The story of Creation found in Genesis 1 3 has captured the attention of countless Christian
theologians throughout the ages. Despite the fact that the text of these chapters are quite short, it has
proved itself to be a fertile ground from which many of the central tenets of Christian doctrine have
sprouted. This fruitful text has also spurred a variety of differing interpretations of the Creation and
Fall. Augustine of Hippo and Lady Julian of Norwich are two theologians who interpreted Genesis 1 3
in vastly different ways. The aim of this paper is to make a thematically organized comparison of
Julian of Norwich s interpretation (which is mostly apparent within her short parable on the Lord and
the Servant, Revelations of Divine Love) with Augustine s influential interpretation of Genesis 1 3.
While Augustine s interpretation is a classic understanding of the Fall that has had a lasting impact on
Western society, in contrast Julian s nuanced understanding of the Fall has had little influence in most
subsequent theological thought until relatively recently. Indeed, it wasn t until the 20th century that
her work began to be broadly in circulation. Even in modern reflections on her theology, many
scholars underappreciate or misunderstand her theology. Some theologians even suggest that she is
moving towards unorthodoxy. Additionally, although Julian of Norwich is held in high esteem by
many scholars and non scholars, she is not always recognized as a highly complex

My Cultural Analysis Of The League
For my cultural analysis essay I decided to base it off of a popular television series and one of my
personal favorites called The League . The League was created by Jeff and Jackie Shaffer a couple
who are both producers and television writers. The show is about a group of friends who come
together every year for football season and they create a fantasy football league that includes all of
them in it. All throughout football season, fantasy football is something that is taken very serious to
them and the main goal of it is to try to win the leagues trophy and avoid the loser trophy. Winning the
championship trophy allows you to have all the bragging rights within the whole league which
something that is very important to them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a show for both genders ranging from the ages I would suggest 18 or older as some of the jokes
used may be for an older audience. The show is based in the city of Chicago with a group of friends
who all grew up together and went to the same schools. Each character is now in there late 20s
through early 30 playing the role of early careers and new parenthood. Every character shares a
different relationship with one another but they are all very close. The main characters of the show and
the 6 friends in the fantasy football league together are Pete, Kevin, Rodney, Andre, Taco Jenny. All
throughout the show you get to know everyones personality, they all play different roles within the
show but all piece together perfectly. Just like every show, The League has various messages; whether
its on purpose or on accidental they re there without a doubt. From modern stereotypes to sexism and
more throughout the characters and situations, it has its wide share of problems. The NFL and
American Football has always been known as a mans sports for years, a lot of women have a problem
with that saying. With The League being all about football, some of those cultural values have been
put all throughout show intentionally and unintentionally which isn t fair to everyone. Through every

Sexual Orientation And Homosexuality
said he was making unwanted advances at them. I do not believe that environmental surroundings or
social settings play any role in determining sexual orientation. While there may be an influencing
atmosphere, I believe that it would have more of an impact on your personality and expression rather
than your actual sexual preference. I think that if you are gay, then you are born that way. There is no
time in your life in which you sit down, weigh the pros and cons, and then make the conscious
decision of whether you want to be homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual, that is just not plausible.
Sexual orientation is an aspect of life that is determined before birth. Through the research of LeVay,

  • 2. Introduction to Noise and Vibration Damping INTRODUCTION TO NOISE AND VIBRATION DAMPING Vibrations are undesirable for structures, due to the need for structural stability, position control, durability, performance, and noise reduction. Vibrations are concern to large structures such as aircraft and small structures such as electronics. Reduction of Vibration can be attained by increasing damping capacity and increasing the stiffness. The loss modulus is the product of these two quantities and thus can be considered a figure of merit for the vibration reduction ability. Structural damping can be achieved by passive or active methods. Passive methods use the inherent ability of certain materials (it can be structural or non structural materials) to absorb the vibrational energy (example, through mechanical deformation), which provides passive energy dissipation. An active method uses sensors and actuators to attain vibration sensing and activation to suppress the vibration in real time. The sensors and actuators are usually piezoelectric devices. This review is focused on materials for passive damping, due to its relatively low cost and ease of implementation Materials for vibration damping are mainly metals and polymers, due to their viscoelastic character. Rubber is commonly used as a vibration damping material due to its viscoelasticity. Though, viscoelasticity is not the only mechanism for damping. Defects such as dislocations, phase boundaries, grain boundaries and various interfaces also contribute to damping, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The First Amendment Of The Fourth Amendment Protection against unreasonable search and seizures is like information on what is in our food. It is our right as Americans to have it. When the Constitution was written in 1787, only nine of the thirteen colonies signed it. Ever since 1789, the Bill of Rights which includes the first ten amendments have been a part of the Constitution. The citizens did not want the government to be able to enter their homes whenever they felt the need to, thus Amendment four was born. According to the National Archives, Amendment four is: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. This means that police officers cannot enter someone s house or search someone s things without a warrant, and the warrant must be for a good reason. There have been many changes involving this amendment due to many modern things that have been invented since the amendment was first written, for example, cell phones and automobiles. These modern effects cause us to reassess the fourth amendment and what it means. According to The Foundation for Economic Education, James Otis, who was an advocate for Amendment four stated, A man s house is his castle; and whilst he is quiet, he is as well guarded as a prince in his castle. ... • 9. The Characteristics Of Gothic Literature In Bram Stoker s... Gothic literature is a form of literature that combines fiction, horror, death, and sometimes romance. Gothic novels combine elements of medieval romance with the modern novel because Horace Walpole; the first known gothic author, deemed medieval romance as too fanciful and modern novels too realistic. The stories traditionally include a threatening mystery and numerous clues and dramatic irony. There is also a trend of a monstrosity or monster figure to appear. They do not exude obvious sources of danger, but the horrors are internalized and discreet. The monster might perhaps live with its victim, invading domestic spaces and increases the levels of terror. Another trait of gothic literature includes the psychological traits and ailments that can be attributed to the characters. The psychologic aspect adds layers of complexity and depth, enhancing the plots in Gothic literature from a two dimensional horror story to a multi dimensional exposé on the human condition. Additionally, lead characters often represent the zeitgeist, the spirit of the time, with their occupations, familial structures, and personality traits. Psychology offers insights towards the scope of cultural change. In Bram Stoker s gothic novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker falls victim to a vampire while attempting to finalize a real estate deal for his boss. He travels from London to Transylvania to stay for few days in the property that he is dealing with. Throughout the novel, Harker exhibits narcissistic traits that parallel with the victorian era s zeitgeist of a dominant male figure. Harker s self obsession blinds him from very apparent warnings. Had he either acknowledged or heeded these warnings, he could have prevented a string of deaths and tragedy. Because Harker is so absorbed in his assumed role in society, he risks the lives of himself and others. Narcissism is a psychological condition that was first identified in 1898, one year after Dracula s publication. The root of the word comes from the Greek God Narcissus, a huntry from Thespiae who was known for beauty. He was proud and scorned those who loved him. Narcissus was attracted to a pool where he viewed his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it. He was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are usually several steps taken before a lawsuit is even filed with the courts. These steps help both parties prepare for the lawsuit. It also opens up opportunities to settle the dispute without the need to go to court. Notice When one party has a complaint or dispute with another party, the first step in the process is formal notification. It may be a claim that goes to the other party s insurance company. It may be a letter going straight to the other party demanding compensation for the injury. Trying to Settle The formal demand usually brings an opportunity to settle the case before filing suit. In many cases, these settlement negotiations are informal, involving discussions between the attorneys, insurance representatives, and clients. It may be a time when one party makes a settlement offer. Counteroffers and settlement rejections can also happen. More formal dispute resolution solutions are also available, including mediation. • 13. Plato, Locke, And The Question Of Innate Ideas Plato, Locke and the Question of Innate Ideas Plato and Locke have opposite opinions on the matter of innate ideas. Plato argues that the recognition of truth in reality is derived from the recollection of truth in the soul. A necessary part of Plato s argument is that recollection of Truth depends upon the existence of an immortal soul. Locke, on the other hand, rejects Plato s argument by stating that the recognition of truth is not dependent on recollection but is rather self evident. In other words, Locke argues that one does not need to understand truth to know it or admit of the existence of an immortal soul, for truth according to Locke reveals itself by virtue of its being true. This paper will analyze the arguments of each philosopher and show why I believe Plato to have the better argument on the matter of recollection and innate ideas in the soul. Analysis of Plato s Doctrine of Recollection in Meno and Phaedo Plato states that all inquiry and all learning is but recollection (81). Socrates uses Meno s slave to show that knowledge comes from recollection. This is Plato s way of stating that recognition of truth depends on the use of one s intellect. Truth may be understood as the conformity of intellect with reality. By using his intellect, Meno s slave recognizes the truth of the measurement of squares drawn by Socrates. Socrates calls this action recollection. The act of recollecting, or using the intellect, is defined by Socrates as one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Had Ms. Karen Sandstrom done some background work on Alice Sebold, she would have discovered that Sebold was a rape victim. This knowledge would have pointed her in a new direction. This direction would have changed Sandstrom s original review. Considering that Sebold was a rape victim herself, she would not have had to imagine the tragedy and heartache that Suzie went through, since she experienced the horror for herself. In ... • 21. Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment: In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety assessment for the product. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG. A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into the environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will cause unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid with suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence, which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene. The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its physiological function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die. Plan Methods: These procedures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Federal Government And Education System The Federal Government and Education Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution declares that the US Government is responsible to tax the people for the general welfare of its citizens . Under this clause, the Government has taken the responsibility of education; not to micro manage the education system, but instead to increase the efficiency of it. In the past, states and local governments have maintained primary control of the education system, which has led to many problems. The differences in curriculum, quality, and administering as well as other aspects of public education are vastly different around the country, which has actually inhibited America s ability to succeed. Many of these issues could be resolved with a shift in power in terms of who is controlling the country s academic system. The Federal Government should have a significant amount of regulating responsibility in America s education system, because it standardizes the quality of education across the country, presents an opportunity of equal education for all students, and regulates teachers. With the Federal Government regulating education, a national standard of schooling will become available. This means that there will be set expectations for how well a student does in school as well as standards for a quality education across the US the education on one side of the country will be exactly the same as on the other side. Having a national academic standard is important because standards spell out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Elizabeth Browning Research Paper Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born March 6th, 1806 in Durham, England, and passed June 29th, 1861 in Florence, Italy. Browning s death is likely caused by an incurable disorder that plagued all three sisters in her family, except only lasted with her. Her everlasting suffrage since the age of thirteen when the symptoms first developed explains why she asked her husband, Robert Browning, whom she dedicated her poetry, to neither love me for thine own dear pity s wiping my cheeks dry . To continue, Elizabeth s father did not wish for any of his children to marry, which Elizabeth was seemingly compliant with, being an invalid thirty nine year old. During their time together, the couple had a son in 1849 when Elizabeth was already forty three years old; this was particularly unusual since the average woman during the Victorian Era had five children, plus the life expectancy was 40! • 25. Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of... Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship. Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and a sense of connection? Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something else. As Cottone (1988,363) mentions, relationship is what we are born from, nurtured by and getting educated from. • 27. The Role of Beatrice Portinari in Dante The Divine Comedy Beatrice Portinari is seen throughout the book of Dante The Divine Comedy . She originally meets Dante in the year 1274, on May Day in Florence, Italy. Beatrice is from a wealthy Florentine family and was eight years old the first time they meet and did not speak a word to each other (Cotter, 21). She was the principle inspiration for Dante s La Vita Nuova, a book about Dante s love connection to her (Passages to the Past). Dante and Beatrice have only met twice, but Dante was so touched by both meetings he shares his love for Beatrice with the reader. Beatrice is seen in Dante s Purgatory when she comes to him in a griffin drawn chariot. She comes down to Dante wearing a white veil representing faith, a green cape symbolizing hope and underneath the cape she wore a robe of flaming red signifying burning love. When she first arrives to Dante she comes to him in a harsh approach, something like an admiral. She does this to try to get a confession out of Dante, and mention to him that he cannot continue his journey if he is not happy and cleansed (University of Texas at Austin). Beatrice comes to him and mentions to him that Virgil can no longer help on his quest, he cannot leave limbo. Beatrice speaks to Dante and tells him to not weep about the fact that Virgil cannot help him on his journey anymore, but to look forward to the next point in his journey. • 28. Religious Freedom And Freedom Of Speech In America Religious freedom and freedom of speech have been enshrined in American law since the late 18th century. Both are found in the First Amendment to the US Constitution and have been at the center of some of the most important Supreme Court cases in history. From Texas v. Johnson to Lemon v. Kurtzmann, religious freedom and freedom of speech have shaped discourse more so than any other fundamental rights in America. Yet now more so than ever, the issue of religious belief versus freedom of speech has permeated American society. This can most clearly be seen in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. The determination of the commission was upheld by the Colorado Supreme Court and Phillips appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case in June 2017 (Howe). The court will hear oral arguments in December 2017 ( Calendar of Events ). The fundamental question at this point is whether or not businesses can refuse to provide goods and/or services to homosexual couples. On one side of the issue, one can find those who believe that businesses must be required by law to provide goods and services to LGBT people upon request. According to this paradigm, a bakery must provide a wedding cake to an interracial couple regardless of how much that business opposes interracial marriage. A fundamental part of this point of view is the argument from Civil Rights. In short, these laws that require businesses to serve all ensure that people previously subject to discrimination can go about their day to day life, without worrying whether they will be turned away from a store because of who they are (ACLU Staff). Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is illegal for businesses to refuse service to any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin (History.com Staff). Colorado, Colorado s Anti Discrimination Act bars public accommodations from denying service to individuals based on their race, religion, sexual orientation, and more (One Colorado). In ... • 31. Augustine Of Hippo And Lady Julian Of Norwich The story of Creation found in Genesis 1 3 has captured the attention of countless Christian theologians throughout the ages. Despite the fact that the text of these chapters are quite short, it has proved itself to be a fertile ground from which many of the central tenets of Christian doctrine have sprouted. This fruitful text has also spurred a variety of differing interpretations of the Creation and Fall. Augustine of Hippo and Lady Julian of Norwich are two theologians who interpreted Genesis 1 3 in vastly different ways. The aim of this paper is to make a thematically organized comparison of Julian of Norwich s interpretation (which is mostly apparent within her short parable on the Lord and the Servant, Revelations of Divine Love) with Augustine s influential interpretation of Genesis 1 3. While Augustine s interpretation is a classic understanding of the Fall that has had a lasting impact on Western society, in contrast Julian s nuanced understanding of the Fall has had little influence in most subsequent theological thought until relatively recently. Indeed, it wasn t until the 20th century that her work began to be broadly in circulation. Even in modern reflections on her theology, many scholars underappreciate or misunderstand her theology. Some theologians even suggest that she is moving towards unorthodoxy. Additionally, although Julian of Norwich is held in high esteem by many scholars and non scholars, she is not always recognized as a highly complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
