The United States Legal Responsibility For Indian Education
According to Meza (2015), effects from the United States attempts to accommodate, assimilate, and
terminate the Indian are still being felt today. Many traditional Native American languages have
become extinct, and the future tribal leaders are struggling to perform at comparable levels with
mainstream American students. The upcoming generation does not know their traditional culture or
language. This threatens tribal sovereignty (Mesa, 2015). There are differing opinions regarding the
United States legal responsibility for Indian education. The Supreme Court has continually held that
Indian tribes are domestic dependent nations. However, Congress and the President agree the federal
government is responsible for the education of Indian students (Meza, 2015). To date, there have been
over 150 treaties between tribes and the United States. In 2001, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act
reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Amendments to Title VII (Indian
Education) read as follows:
It is the policy of the United States to fulfill the Federal Government s unique and continuing trust
relationship with and responsibility to the Indian people for the education of Indian children. The
Federal Government will continue to ensure that programs that serve Indian children are of the highest
quality and provide for not only the basic elementary and secondary education needs, but also the
unique educational and culturally related academic needs of these

Microsoft Outlook® User Manual Critique
The objective of this paper will be to evaluate Microsoft manual for Outlook®. According to
Torkzadeh (1988), author of The Quality of User Documentation, User documentation is an important
tool for communications. It enhances the value of an application to the user and in turn, improves user
satisfaction (p. 99). When designing a manual Ganier (2007) suggests in his article, Comparative User
Focused Evaluation of User Guides, the strategy for a user manual should focus on 3 characteristics:
format, structure, and its content. Ganier in his article also includes the criteria for measuring the ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Practicality, the second criteria, as it applies to a user manual or an instruction, is whether or not the
manual or instruction is designed and applicable to actual use. Overall, the manual is useful if the user
is looking for instruction on performing a specific task. The user e manual does a good job of
explaining the various functions of the Outlook® application. The tool bar menu items include
navigation buttons which allow the user to easily move the focus of the manual back one page at a
time or by clicking on the home button, to return to the first page.
Simplicity is the lack of complexity, or intricacy, (Merriam Webster s, 2010). The Outlook® user e
manual fulfills the definition of simplicity in its ability to reach a diverse target audience, with the
ability to read and understand the content. Both basic and advanced users can utilize the search
function of the manual to find instructions on the topic being searched. Basic tasks, such as creating an
e mail, or tasks for more advanced users, can easily be found in the manual.
The user e manual lacks overall efficiency as it does not give the user the ability to accomplish a task
with ease and speed. The user e manual should allow the user, no matter what their experience level
with the application, to be able to access the information in the most efficient manner. The Outlook®

The Impact Of The Spinning Jenny And The Industrial...
Until the 18th century, material form wool or cotton was manufactured mainly by what was known as
the putting out system. A trader would provide the raw material to spinners and weavers. They in turn
would spin the wool and/or cotton into threads and weave the threads into material. The material
would then be sold back to the original provider at the going piecework rate of the day. Spinning and
weaving was a true cottage or home industry because most of the spinners and weavers worked out of
their cottage homes. The Spinning Jenny invented by James Hargreaves in 1764, but only patented in
1770, contributed to the Industrial Revolution in the textile industry by revolutionising the process of
cotton/wool spinning. Hargreaves and his family lived in Stan Hill, a small village in Lancashire,
England
The Industrial Revolution began in England about 1760 and expanded to the rest ... Show more

James Hargreaves began to produce the Spinning Jenny for others to use and improved the design to
such an extent that up to 30 threads would be produced with one turn of the wheel. This created
jealousy from his neighbours and competitors and became a risk to Hargreaves and his family. He then
moved to Nottingham, entered into a partnership with another businessman and constructed a small
mill which used his invention to spin hosiers yarn. This all happened after he had a break in at his
house at Stan Hill where most of his machines were destroyed.
The Spinning Jenny invention was important because it was the first improvement on the spinning
wheel and was one of the first examples of the impact a mechanical competitive advantage could
have. Operators could spin with as many as 100 spindles. The Spinning Jenny paved the way for other
improved versions over time i.e. manually operated machines were replaced by automated

The Government Should Not Control What Children Eat Essay
Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States, nearly twenty percent of children between the
ages of 6 and 11 are clinically obese; however the government has no place trying to control this.
(CDC, 2008) The current administration over steps its authority moving beyond the control of
federally funded school lunches and into oversight of privately owned vending machines in public
schools. Major corporations are being bullied into censoring their advertisement exposure to younger
children so that the government won t impose their own regulations. It is a parent s responsibility and
right to educate their children and control what they eat. The Federal government should not try to
control what children eat by imposing regulations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Snack machines are big business in the public school system. They are privately owned and serviced,
in order to be placed in schools the vending companies enter into contracts where a portion of profits
are provided back to the school. These profits often play a big role in an already tight school budget;
they pay for necessities such as copies of student handouts and other teaching aids. Where the problem
begins is that the Let s Move program authorizes the United States Department of Agriculture to set
standards for all foods regularly sold in schools including vending machines and al la cart lunch lines.
Neither of the affected receives funding from the program, making this a controversial issue of the
federal government setting controls on state funded schools. The federal government needs to stay out
of state run programs, especially when it can affect funding which directly relates to our children s
education.
Aside from federal restrictions on food in public schools some states have allowed their administration
to create and enforce rules that are not their place to be making. At Little Village Academy, a public
school in Chicago the principal Elsa Carmona established a rule that banned lunches made at home
and drinks from home at school, the only acceptation is for children with allergies. This ruling is an
attempt to force the children to eat the

The Birthmark, And Rappachini s Daughter, By Nathaniel...
Nathaniel Hawthorne was a prominent 19th century American author who is widely regarded for his
adequate contributions to revolutionizing modern day literature. In his three works: Young Goodman
Brown, The Birthmark, and Rappachini s Daughter, Hawthorne uses a myriad of techniques and
stylistic traits to portray ideologies and create interest within the readers. In his short stories,
Hawthorne flawlessly conveys his erudition on modern themes of psychology and the human
inclination to sin through his astute use of ambiguity and symbolism. In his stories, Hawthorne
commonly wrote to explore the evil and sin within man. In his three short stories, symbolism
ultimately attests to this. In Young Goodman Brown, Brown adventures into the forest ... Show more

Supported in his writing, Young Goodman Brown, readers are introduced to Brown, a character who
seemingly finds Hawthorne s technique of otherworldly events. While adventuring through nature,
Brown finds himself entrapped in the blending of the forest with the supernatural to depict the woods
taking on a life of its own. From this Brown watches in horror as the devil throws the supernatural
serpent shaped staff on the ground, causing it to come to life and slither into the obscurity of the
forest. Hawthorne s technique is also found in his work The Birthmark. In his story, Hawthorne
creates a supernatural element within the birthmark itself, as it creates the question on whether or not
Georgianna is an angel or human. The birthmark, being the only human feature, is the only factor
keeping Georgianna attached to reality. When the birthmark is removed, the only attachment to reality
is broken and Georgina is taken up into heaven, the only pure place in existence. Finally, readers are
presented with Hawthorne s story, Rappaccini s daughter. Beatrice, Hawthorne s physical embodiment
of the supernatural element, is first depicted in an enclosed and isolated garden. Though, Beatrice may
not dead or inhuman, she possesses a unique and distinct quality, a poisonous touch. Presented
through the story, whatever she touches dies and even her very breath kills any living creature near
her. From this, Hawthorne leaves readers with a sense of ambiguity with such otherworldly

Analysis Of Column 7L
During the initial site walk, cracking was observed on the north corbel of column 7B, as labeled on the
2014 structural drawings for the site. During the renovations in 2014, steel columns were added in the
vicinity of the B line of columns in this area of the structure. Given that these new columns may have
been added to take additional stresses caused by the renovations and/or additions, observation of the
deteriorated conditions of this corbel warranted additional investigation of other corbels in the area.
This was not part of the original scope of work, but TKW has observed and reported on the condition
of some of these corbels as a courtesy to the client.
The first corbels inspected were at column 7B. Both the north and south ... Show more content on

From this position, the northern corbel at column 5B appears to have similar conditions compared to
column 6B. A significant portion of the corbel has fallen off and is lying on top of the CMU wall in
that area (Figure 26). The bearing conditions look similar to column 6B, but exact measurements were
not possible. The condition of the beam bearing on the corbel was not visible, but padding for bearing
can be seen in the location.
At column 4B, the northern corbel has cracked significantly at one corner of the corbel (Figure 27).
The cracked portion is hanging from the corbel by a small section of concrete at the top of the corbel.
Due to spatial constraints, measurements could not be made, but the section of concrete hanging from
the corbel appears to be about ½in thick. Small pieces of concrete were found on the ground in this
area, suggesting that the corbel is slowly deteriorating. Bearing pads appear to be in use on the
southern corbel only, which shows no signs of deterioration.
The northern corbel at column 3B is beginning to crack along one of its corners (Figure 28). Spatial
constraints did not permit actual measurements, but the crack appears to be 0.012in 0.025in wide. Due
to the presence of drywall in the area, it is difficult to gauge the depth of the crack as the attached
drywall could be helping to holding the concrete in place. The southern corbel does not exhibit any
signs of deterioration. Bearing pads appear to be utilized on both corbels.

Victory At Vimy Ridge
July 1st, 1916 marks the commencement of a memorable battle in the world s history: the Battle of the
Somme. This eminent battle, as well as its catastrophic first day is referred to as a symbol of the
extravagancy and unfortunate outcome of Britain s First World War. It was originally arranged to
relieve the pressure on the French at Verdun. The immense count of casualties and deaths during this
battle have totaled to a record of over 1.25 million dead on both sides. Both the Allies and Central
Powers experienced great losses as a result of the poor decisions made on behalf of the higher
commanders. The relation between the total casualties and ineffective strategies are clearly seen

Social Theory And Social Judgement Theory
Abstract
The topic to be discussed here is one of the social sciences based on the theories Groupthink and
Social Judgement Theory. I will propose a study to analyze the relationship between the number of
hours of media an individual receives and its effects on his or her voting behavior. The participants of
this proposed study will be registered voters between the ages of eighteen and seventy and residents of
the United States of America. The primary method of collecting data will be through surveys. Once
the data has been, collected a multiple regression will be constructed. Please note, the terms person,
individual, subject, and voter are used interchangeably throughout the document.
Introduction
This document discusses a proposed study that analyzes a person s media exposure and how that
effects his or her voting behaviors. Throughout this document I will discuss the theories associated
with the proposed study as well as how this study could impact the theories and everyday life that the
theories are based upon.
Associated Theories
The proposed study is based upon two theories: Groupthink and Social Judgement Theory.
Groupthink can be described as a phenomena that causes a group of people to become so extremely
concerned with unanimity that each person makes decisions without considering all of his or her
options. This type of phenomena tends to hold a negative connotation because the thought process
associated with the theory causes people to fall to peer

Emily Dickinson Poem 465 Analysis
In her poem #465, Emily Dickinson s speaker allow the reader to experience an ironic reversal of
conventional expectations of the moment of death in the mid 1800s, as the speaker finds nothing but
and eerie darkness at the end of her life. The first stanza introduces the speaker s earliest memory as
they are starting the journey of crossing over. Right away the reader is introduced to a fly buzzing
around the room, I heard a Fly buzz when I died (1). The fly represents the soul leaving the body and
witnessing the surroundings of the life they are leaving behind. The speaker is aware that the people
around have crying and Dickinson illustrating the scene with a metaphor, Was like the Stillness in the
Air Between the Heaves of Storm (3 4). The speaker realizes that the family members who have come
to mourn have not made any sounds during the periods of wailing and quietly sniffling. Dickinson s
comparison to a storm that changes sound constantly it perfectly displays how people mourn. First
loudly, then quietly before the wails rise again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No longer are the people s eyes wet with tears but instead are dry and red. This illustrates how the
family is anticipating and holding their breath as the speaker slowly leaves the land of the living.
While the speaker is ready to witness the glorious beginning of ascending into the afterlife, they also
see a King who is witnessing the speaker s journey, For that last Onset when the King Be Witnesses in
the Room (6 7). The king that is also witnessing the journey that the speaker is embarking on might be
what the speaker believes is God watching everything

Speech On Painkillers
It s only natural to head straight for your medicine cabinet when you feel a headache coming on, but
did you know that you re actually putting yourself in danger by relying on painkillers every time you
have a migraine or eye fatigue? Overconsumption of painkillers can and almost always does lead to
the body developing a tolerance to them, which makes your regular dosage ineffective, meaning you
have to increase the number of painkillers you take to get rid of your headache. This, in turn, can
cause you to develop an addiction to painkillers, something that about 10% of Americans are believed
to suffer from.
In order to avoid becoming reliant on painkillers and to ensure they are effective when you do use
them you should always try ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

If you re one of the 28 million Americans who are left deabilited by migraines, you should pay careful
attention to this entry. In cases of severe sinusitis and migraines that refuse to subside, bypass all
previously mentioned pressure points and go straight to the Tian Zhu points.
The Tian Zhu points are unique in that they are located on the back of head. They rest just above the
sides of the neck, where the spine runs into the hairline. Applying pressure to the Tian Zhu points will
ease, and, in some cases, eradicate migraines so that you no longer have to spend hours lying in a
darkened room when you re supposed to be working. The one downside of the Tian Zhu points is that
it can be a challenge to reach them by yourself, so you may need a family member or particularly
obliging colleague to squeeze them for you.

How Mitochondria And Chloroplasts Work Together
Both mitochondria and chloroplasts are involved in energy transformation, with the former in cellular
respiration and the later in photosynthesis. Both organelles have membranes that separate their
interiors into compartments. They both have inner membranes (cristae in mitochondria, thylakoid
membrane in chloroplast) that have large surface areas with embedded enzymes that carry out their
main functions.
Mitochondria are the sites of cellular respiration, the metabolic processes that generate ATP by
extracting energy from sugars, fats, and other fuels with the help of oxygen.
Both contain a small amount of DNA and are semiautonomous. They will grow and reproduce within
the cell. It is believed that mitochondria and plastids were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chloroplasts and mitochondria are structurally different from the vesicles derived in the endoplasmic
reticulum, which are bounded by a single membrane.
The cytoskeleton is a network of fibers extending throughout the cytoplasm. It play a major role in
organizing the structure and activities of the cell. It gives mechanical support to the cell and maintains
its shape, which is especially important in animal cells, which lack cell walls. Several types of motility
involve the cytoskeleton as well. It is also involved in regulating biochemical activities in the cell in
response to mechanical stimulation.
Both of the systems involve long filaments that are moved in relation to each other by motor proteins
that grip, release, and grip again adjacent polymers.
Dynein arms, powered by ATP, move neighboring doublets of microtubules relative to one another.
Because they are anchored within the organelle and with respect to each other, the doublets bend

Guru Hargobind And Mirhavan s Sikh Gurus
Guru Hargobind and Mirhavan had different visions of Sikhism in the early seventeenth century, they
had alternative characteristics and traits that made them differ as Sikh Gurus from each other (54).
They were both rival Sikh gurus who were cousins as well. Guru Hargobind and Mirhavan had
distinctive views of lifestyle and appearance on being a Sikh guru. Moreover, the differences in the
Sikh community was formed through traits and the personalities of the militancy being taught. The lay
followers were the targets of these two separate entities and the beginnings to large public debates

community was focused on being spiritual and how it would affect the community. Continuing, both
Guru Hargobind and Miharavan had different visions to a dispute and solve problems that would take

(54). The major issue on their claims is the way it is represented throughout previous Sikh gurus. This
also had a spiritual authority over the Sikh community. Guru Hargobind was more of the militant
aspect and viewed different problematic situations to be solved throughout violence. Whereas,
Miharvan was more calm and collected, who devoted his time and efforts of being a civil Guru.

Flashing Lights, Hugs From Strangers, Pounding Of Tables,
Flashing lights, hugs from strangers, pounding of tables, and more await those coming into the Deaf
Cultural world. After all, how does one communicate with another who cannot hear? From the
perspective of one who grew up in the hearing world, these cultural norms were anything but normal;
yet they have become ingrained, almost second nature. Now these are my norms and are part of my
world. My journey into Deaf culture started in elementary school while riding the school bus. A friend
of mine named Francis allowed me into her world of American Sign Language by teaching me the
manual alphabet and some basic conversational sign language, such as roller skates and how are you?

Some options include: flashing the lights briefly, stomping on the floor, or simply walking across the
room to grab their attention. Another important cultural tidbit, eye contact is incredibly important. To
an outsider it can be a bit unnerving, it almost feels like they are staring you down; however, direct
eye contact is expected when someone is communicating with you, as this shows that you are fully
engaged in the conversation. Breaking eye contact while in a conversation is akin to interrupting and
stating that their conversation is not worth your time.
Living isolated by a majority of those who live around you, simply because of the mode of
communication, can be very difficult. A majority of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in the
United States communicate with a three dimensional language known as American Sign Language, or
ASL. ASL is a unique language that differs greatly from English. Not only does ASL differ from
English linguistically, it also differs in modality. Instead of articulating phonemes with one s mouth,
teeth, tongue, and throat, one articulates ASL with one s hands, fingers, face, and surrounding space.
As such, an individual whose primary language is ASL may struggle reading and writing in English,
especially in complex situations such as a doctor s appointment. Also, the Deaf community shares a
unique lexicon used to identify various individuals with whom they come in contact.

Child Rearing Practices Shape And Influence Attitudes...
Illness refers to the ways in which the sick person, the members of the family and wider social
network perceive, live with, and respond to symptoms and disability. Illness and pain is a subjective
experience that varies between each individual person. Alisha Ghosh is my cousin; she is a 22 year old
female student, currently in her fourth year at the University of Waterloo. Alisha suffers from sever
chronic migraines which hinders and interferes with her daily life. Additionally, Alisha s mother also
sufferes from sever chronic migraines. It is evident that Alisha s attitude towards pain is highly
influenced by her mother. Further more, when Alisha s mother would experience pain from sever
migraines she would isolate herself in her room and turn off all the lights as it made her migraines
worse. Similarly, whenever Alisha begins to experience migraine pains she isolates herself into her
dark room. This illustrates how child rearing practices shape and influence attitudes towards the
expectations of pain and how to deal with it. To begin with, Alisha Ghosh is a highly active and hard
working student, she is on her university s soccer team and has a part time job at the mall. In addition,
her chronic pain began in her freshmen year in university and started interfering with her social and
academic life. She would have to call in sick from work, miss lectures and miss going out to social
events because her chronic pain is so severe that she has to isolate herself in her room

The Id, Ego, and Super-Ego in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song...
T.S. Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is inhabited by both a richly developed world
and character and one is able to categorize the spaces in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock to
correspond to Prufrock s mind. Eliot uses the architecture of the three locations described in the text to
explore parts of Prufrock s mind in the Freudian categories of id, ego, and super ego; the city that is
described becomes the Ego, the room where he encounters women his Id and the imagined ocean
spaces his Super Ego. Eliot is vague in his suggestion of Prufrock s audience, only referring to the

These issues the introversion, the self degradation are joined by a myriad of other psychological
disturbances that are all derived from inability to fulfill sexual desire. The poem becomes an
introspective examining of the faults in the mind of a man. By including the quote from Dante s
Inferno, and creating a character that is so introverted Eliot suggests that Prufrock is examining his
own mind and delving into the most delicate of problems. If one applies the Freudian concepts of id,
ego, and super ego to Prufrock s troubled mind, a clear delineation of three sections is made in the
poem. A short explanation of id ego and super ego is necessary in connecting them to the spaces in the
text. Freud s theory stemmed from a need to classify the parts of the mind . From this stems the
organization of personality into three parts all of which are demonstrated in the Love Song of J. Alfred
Prufrock . The id is the impulsively and instinctually driven section of Freud s personality complex
and is based on seeking pleasure. An especially important factor for Prufrock is that the id
encompasses is sexual desire. It is largely accountable for the unconscious mind. The ego is the most

As the novels progress, both protagonists face life changing decisions, based on their past experiences

mother by moving the boiling juice to an area that will let it cool faster. She hopes that by doing this
task, she will gain her mother s acceptance. While doing this, the bowl slips out of Pecola s hands and
juice is spilled everywhere on the floor, including on her legs. When this happens Pauline shockingly

Analyzing Predictors Of Success For Higher Education Among...
Working Title: Examining the History of Standardized Tests in Higher Education through a Critical
Race Lens and Analyzing Predictors of Graduate School Success among African Americans
Theoretical Framework and Proposed Research Study
The theoretical framework chosen to guide my research in analyzing predictors of success in higher
education among African American students is Critical Race Theory (CRT), with an emphasis in
education. Critical Race Theory in Education (CRTE) evolved from CRT, which is derivative of
Critical Legal Studies (CLS), a 1970 s movement which sought to expose and challenge the views that
legal reasoning was neutral, value free, and unaffected by social, and economic relations, political
forces, or culture phenomena (Brown Jackson, 2013, p. 9). CLS scholars successfully confirmed that
personal biases of judges compromised verdicts in legal cases, claiming that America s legal system
only reinforces an oppressive social order benefiting the dominant race more than the oppressed race
(Brown Jackson, 2013). CRTE scholars is indebted to CRT scholars (which is indebted to CLS
scholars), thus scholars of CRTE should be well versed in the history of CRT (and CLS).
History of Critical Race Theory
CRT emerged because of the Supreme Court and federal courts unconstitutional decisions in legal
cases involving discrimination against minorities (Brown Jackson, 2013). Brown and Jackson (2013)
elucidated a fundamental standpoint of

World War I And The Assassination Of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
The start of world war I was brought on by several different contributing factors. The most important
cause were militarism, alliances, imperalism, and nationalism. Among those causes, the world war I

Sophie. Archduke s death quickly set off a chain of reaction of events culminating in the the outbreak
of world war I. As you read this essay you will learn about the start of world war I and the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Militarism means that the army and the military forces are

European nations ruled smaller countries, called colonies. The purpose of Imperalism is to build up
national wealh and influenced by owning colonies. Both France and Britain had many colonies in
Africa and Asia. In the 1880s and 7090s, Germany and Italy decided they wanted a colonial empire,
too. This was the horror of the war.
Nationalism is having pride in one country or nationality. Countries were far more concerned with
their own interest than those of Europe as a whole. It also gave groups of subject people the idea of
forming independent nations. These lead European nations to complete to build the largest army and
navy. Many people wanted freedom from foreign rule.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was born on December 18, 1865 in Granz, Australia. Archduke was
assassinated June 28, 1914. Him and his wife, Sophie, was killed by a teenage Serbian nationalist. His
death quickly set off a chain reaction of events culminating in the outbreak of world war I. The Austria
Hungary government saw the assassination as a direct attack on a certain country. everyone believed
that the Serbians had helped the Bosnian terrorists in the attack. they made demands on the Serbians
which the Serbians rejected. Russia also mobilized their army to help protect Serbia. When they heard
that Serbia rejected the demands, Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. Years later, Germany
declared war on Russia to help its ally Austria Hungary. Then France began to mobilize to help

Critical Analysis of Giorgio Agamben Essays
In, Life That Does Not Deserve to Live, Giorgio Agamben aims to expand on Michel Foucault s
concepts of biopower and biopolitics , to express the way in which the state has power over society in
the way that bare life is produced. He uses the Latin term homo sacer literally translated to sacred man
to describe a life which can be eliminated without punishment , one that possesses no value to the state
and therefore can be terminated without the act being considered a crime. Examples of this can be
seen in people who experience brain death and subsequently have their life support machine switched
off, and in people in prison camps such as Guantanamo Bay. However, the biggest example we are
given of bare life, is in the Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, Agamben s thesis that the camp can be used as a paradigm for the line that every society
sets between bare life and political existence is in itself an important argument. However, he only
concentrates on the separation of the two, rather than expanding his argument to illustrate the
divisions that are clearly prevalent within each group.
Agamben also uses the biopolitics of the Nazi regime to draw a parallel to liberal, democratic societies
in the sense that it shows that all societies have the same line in which, when crossed, one becomes
homo sacer. This is the state of exception , the point in which the sovereign decides, Which life may
be killed without the commission of a homicide . Agamben leads the argument for the state of
exception onto one regarding euthanasia. This can be seen as the sovereign uses the state of exception
to deem brain dead people as bare life . They possess no economic merit to the state and so their life is
devoid of value . The sovereign as a person, who holds the power to decide whether a person is bios or
zoe , falls to people who preside over the health of the individual, he/she can be a doctor, a
psychiatrist, and a jurist . As these represent the affluent class of society, this shows that biopower is
inevitably connected to economic worth. The Nazi regime, according to Agamben, is the first instance
in which politics and medicine have ever

Describe how Bacteria decode its genetic information to produce proteins?
Intro(10mins)
Bacteria belongs to a group of organism that lacks cell nucleus and membrane bound organells. This
group of organisms are termed as prokaryotes. Prokaryotes follows the central dogma of molecular
biology first proposed by Francis Crick in 1958 to synthesize proteins from mRNA through a process
called translation and the mRNA is being synthesized from the DNA by another process called
Transcription. Temperature, nutrient availibity are some key factors that start the process of
synthesizing proteins in response to these key factors. Example. This paper will provide an
explanation as to how bacteria decode the genetic information to produce proteins. ... Show more

50S ribosomal subunits binds to the 30s ribosomal unit, giving rise to a complete 70s ribosome. Initial
factors(IF 1, IF 2, IF 3) are required for the formation of the initiation complex described above.
Once initiated, the polypeptide grows longer by covalently linking amino acids together. The ribosome
has 3 binding sites for binding tRNA, 1 the peptidyl site (P site), 2 aminoacyl site (A site) and the 3
exit site (E site). At the beginning of elongagion, the P site is filled with fMet tRNA, and the A and E
sites are empty. MRNA is bound to the ribosome in which its codon complement the anticodon of the
tRNA at the P site. TRNA with anticodon to the codon of mRNA at the empty A site is inserted. A
transpeptidation reaction occurs between the 2 amino acids carried by the tRNA, on the P and A site.
This reaction results in the transfer of the amino acid in the P site to the amino acid in the A site. The
ribosome now advances a distance of 1 codon and a new tRNA carrying the next amino acid moves
into the A site where its anti codon matches the codon of the mRNA. The ribosome again shift down
by a distance of 1 codon. As the shift occurs, the 2 amino acids on the tRNA in the P site are
transferred to the new amino acid and the 2nd tRNA is released at the E exit. This

Economics In The Great Recession
Intro: Studying Economics in the backdrop of the Great Recession emphasised the power that
Economics leverages upon global society. My lack of understanding of the Economic mechanisms
behind the recession led me to read Krugman s End This Depression Now , and attend the Cambridge
University Marshall Society Conference, The Power of Policy . The most engaging debate was that
between Madsen Pirie of the Adam Smith Institute, and Lord Skidelsky. Both these sources introduced
me to alternative perspectives regarding the causes and effects of the recession; however, what I found
most interesting was witnessing the polarizing beliefs of the most efficient way to respond to the UK s
recession, both from highly respected academics. In Krugman s opinion ... Show more content on

Main Themes In The Secret Sharer By Joseph Conrad
The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad presents several themes throughout its composite narration of
characters and the ideas it amplifies through the novella. Amongst all the many themes that are
presented, there is one main theme that is thoroughly supported by Conrad in The Secret Sharer. The
theme supported is, the ability that a person has, to change their beliefs due to the inexperience as a
leader, self doubt. In the beginning the Captain is an ethical individual, yet his interaction with the
murderer, along with Leggatt, reveals him as someone who is insecure, allowing the captain to make
many illogical decisions, and in the end put his crew in harms way, showing that he is unfit to remain
captain of the ship. The Captain is introduced into the novella as a young seaman, who was chosen to
be the captain of a sailing vessel on its voyage back home. The young captain displays himself as an
experienced sailor yet is filled with much self doubt as he is the second youngest man on the ship, and
has little leadership experience, especially as a captain. The captain s self doubt is easily manipulated
by many individuals on the boat when he first gains command. The captain s first impression of
inexperience as a leader is shown when he decides to perform anchor watch for the first half of the
night. I felt painfully that I a stranger was doing something unusual when I directed him to let all
hands turn in without setting an anchor watch. (page 652) The captain

Tobacco And Its Effect On America
With such an expansive history in Connecticut, the subject of tobacco is just as encompassing. With
roots in Windsor colonial history through its height in the 1950s, sources try to capture it all at a
surface level. Scholars have studied tobacco over time evaluating its role in the community at that
moment in time. Over a variety of sources, overall the response to tobacco in Windsor has been
positive as it serves as both an economic influence and a cultural one as well. Starting at one of the
most recent sources, Brianna Dunlap looks at the entire Connecticut River valley as the backdrop as
Connecticut s tobacco industry in Connecticut Valley Tobacco. Published in 2016, Dunlap captures
tobacco s history starting at its roots in the 1600s through Cuba s reopening trade ports in 2015. This
book serves to establish Windsor s connection with tobacco and how it changed over time to match the
changing landscape around the tobacco sheds.
Dunlap explains how location was the initial reason that tobacco came and conquered the fields with
access to both the Connecticut and Farmington rivers. She states, for the settlers, this meant access to
trade routes and economic staying power, making the region a modern hub for development. With
immediate access, settlers began quickly to establish Windsor using tobacco as a main export back to
England and throughout the colonies. This platform provides Windsor a booming industry that allows
for development of other industries thus affecting

Mobile Phones And Cell Phones
1) Sleeping disorder :Most of the teens keep their smart phones nearby while sleeping to respond to
calls and texts . They feel pressurized to remain reachable around the clock. It leads to sleep
interruption and disruption. Teens also become irritable when they are sleep deprived. 2) Accidents:
Teens are more likely to respond to calls, text while driving, and riding than adults. They talk and text
on the phone without realizing that it can cost their lives. Even the U.S. Government Website for
Distracted Driving has proven that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in teens. 3) Increases
Anxiety: Relying on texting as a primary mode of communication can increase anxiety in teens.
Texting is instantly gratifying, but it also produces anxiety. The instant reply by the friend can bring
joy and elation. But in case of delayed response or no response, this same pleasure turns into
disappointment. 4) Cancer: Research shows that electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones
get absorbed in the tissues when we hold the phone for longer times. The nervous systems of teens are
still developing and have a greater risk of developing brain cancer from cell phones than adults. Cell
Phone Safety For Teens: Cell phones are not going anywhere, at least no anytime soon. So you need to
teach your teens about mobile phone safety and to use it responsibly. They also need to have agreed
boundaries for mobile phone usage. Here are some ways to avoid negative effects of cell

Government Intervention Within The Market Place
Why does the government feel the need to intervene in the market place especially when the economy
is always so hard to predict? The government intervenes within the market place because they believe
they know what is best for our economy. They attempt to address what is inefficient within the market
place in order to create a more efficient economy. There are many scenarios of government
intervention within the market place. Three great examples of when the government intervened within
the market place was the first income tax and Internal Revenue Act in 1862, the Specie Resumption
Act during the Panic of 1873, and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
The first example of government intervention in the market place occurred during the American Civil
War. In 1862, the government realized that they would need a bit more revenue coming in to cover the
costs of the Civil War. Because of this, President Abraham Lincoln implemented a tax on household
income. A three percent tax was placed on incomes within the range of $600 and $10,000. A five
percent tax was placed on incomes more than $10,000. However, as the war kept dragging on, the
government realized that this income tax was not going to be enough to cover the expenses of the war.
Later in 1862, Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act. This placed a tax on various items. Things
like gunpowder, iron, leather, playing cards, whiskey, and telegrams were taxed as a result of this act.
The Internal Revenue Act also created a

Summary Of The Federalist Papers
The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 essays and articles written by three of the most prominent
men in early United States history: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. All of these
essays were written to try to ratify the United States Constitution. Seventy seven were published
serially in The Independent Journal and The New York Packet between October 1787 and August
1788. A compilation of these and eight others, called The Federalist; or, The New Constitution, was
published in two volumes in 1788 by J. and A. McLean. The collection s original title was The
Federalist; the title The Federalist Papers did not emerge until the 20th century.

Federalist No. 10, in which Madison discusses the means of preventing rule by majority faction and
advocates a large, commercial republic, is generally regarded as the most important of the 85 articles
from a philosophical perspective; it is complemented by Federalist No. 14, in which Madison takes the
measure of the United States, declares it appropriate for an extended republic, and concludes with a
memorable defense of the constitutional and political creativity of the Federal Convention.[3] In
Federalist No. 84, Hamilton makes the case that there is no need to amend the Constitution by adding
a Bill of Rights, insisting that the various provisions in the proposed Constitution protecting liberty
amount to a bill of rights . Federalist No. 78, also written by Hamilton, lays the groundwork for the
doctrine of judicial review by federal courts of federal legislation or executive acts. Federalist No. 70
presents Hamilton s case for a one man chief executive. In Federalist No. 39, Madison presents the
clearest exposition of what has come to be called Federalism . In Federalist No. 51, Madison distills
arguments for checks and balances in an essay often quoted for its justification of government as the
greatest of all reflections on human

Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Psychodynamic Approach To...
While psychodynamic and behavioural approaches are the two major approaches to personality, they
view personality from different perspective. Psychodynamic approach argues personality is caused by
forces in the unconscious but not learnt. Individuals have little control over their behaviour as it is
predetermined, and early childhood plays a crucial part in shaping one s personality. Behavioural
approach, on the other hand, recognizes personality as learnt and focuses only on present behaviour
matters. Given the differences, it has been argued whether, in terms of scientific merit, psychodynamic
or behavioural approach is more comprehensive. The strengths of psychodynamic approach are
consideration of childhood experiences and recognition of the unconscious part. On the contrary,
behavioural approach focuses on behaviour that can be scientifically measured and verified, and
recognizes the importance of external environment on personality. From the above arguments, it is
finally concluded, in term of methodology and testability, behavioural approach is more
comprehensive. Introduction The scientific merit of psychodynamic and behavioural approaches to
personality is quite different in terms of supporting whether personality is largely inborn or learnt. The
term scientific merit here is defined as the methodology employed and testability of the approaches.
On one hand, it has been argued psychodynamic approach relies too heavily on unconscious mind

Erythropoietin in preterm infants
Citation:
Fauchere J, Koller B, Tschopp A et al., Safety of Early High Dose Recombinant Erythropoietin for
Neuroprotection in Very Preterm Infants, The Journal of Pediatrics (167)1, 52 57, 2015.
Background:
The article, which was published in July 2015 in journal of pediatrics, gives an idea about the safe use
of erythropoietin in preterm infants for protection of nervous system. Premature birth has remained
one of the major risk factor for cerebral palsy, cognitive defect and psychomotor development. Hence,
the main objective of the study present in this article was to ensure the safety and efficacy of use of
high dose erythropoietin in premature babies for neuro protection. The primary hypothesis of this
study was that high dose of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEpo) improves mental develop
mental index (MDI) of premature infants born at 24 months of age compared to the placebo.
Methods and materials:
It was a randomized, double blinded placebo controlled multicenter study, which was carried on
preterm born between 26 0/7 and 31 6/7 weeks of gestation. Preterms with congenital malformations,
genetically defined syndromes and severe IVH≥III before randomization were excluded from the
study. The participants were randomly assigned to receive rhEpo or NaCl 0.9 percent in advanced by

  • 3. The United States Legal Responsibility For Indian Education According to Meza (2015), effects from the United States attempts to accommodate, assimilate, and terminate the Indian are still being felt today. Many traditional Native American languages have become extinct, and the future tribal leaders are struggling to perform at comparable levels with mainstream American students. The upcoming generation does not know their traditional culture or language. This threatens tribal sovereignty (Mesa, 2015). There are differing opinions regarding the United States legal responsibility for Indian education. The Supreme Court has continually held that Indian tribes are domestic dependent nations. However, Congress and the President agree the federal government is responsible for the education of Indian students (Meza, 2015). To date, there have been over 150 treaties between tribes and the United States. In 2001, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Amendments to Title VII (Indian Education) read as follows: It is the policy of the United States to fulfill the Federal Government s unique and continuing trust relationship with and responsibility to the Indian people for the education of Indian children. The Federal Government will continue to ensure that programs that serve Indian children are of the highest quality and provide for not only the basic elementary and secondary education needs, but also the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of these ... • 4. Microsoft Outlook® User Manual Critique Microsoft Outlook® User Manual Critique XXXX XXXX English 221 December 12, 2010 XXXX Microsoft Outlook® User Manual Critique The objective of this paper will be to evaluate Microsoft manual for Outlook®. According to Torkzadeh (1988), author of The Quality of User Documentation, User documentation is an important tool for communications. It enhances the value of an application to the user and in turn, improves user satisfaction (p. 99). When designing a manual Ganier (2007) suggests in his article, Comparative User Focused Evaluation of User Guides, the strategy for a user manual should focus on 3 characteristics: format, structure, and its content. Ganier in his article also includes the criteria for measuring the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Practicality, the second criteria, as it applies to a user manual or an instruction, is whether or not the manual or instruction is designed and applicable to actual use. Overall, the manual is useful if the user is looking for instruction on performing a specific task. The user e manual does a good job of explaining the various functions of the Outlook® application. The tool bar menu items include navigation buttons which allow the user to easily move the focus of the manual back one page at a time or by clicking on the home button, to return to the first page. Simplicity is the lack of complexity, or intricacy, (Merriam Webster s, 2010). The Outlook® user e manual fulfills the definition of simplicity in its ability to reach a diverse target audience, with the ability to read and understand the content. Both basic and advanced users can utilize the search function of the manual to find instructions on the topic being searched. Basic tasks, such as creating an e mail, or tasks for more advanced users, can easily be found in the manual. The user e manual lacks overall efficiency as it does not give the user the ability to accomplish a task with ease and speed. The user e manual should allow the user, no matter what their experience level with the application, to be able to access the information in the most efficient manner. The Outlook® user ... • 5. The Impact Of The Spinning Jenny And The Industrial... Until the 18th century, material form wool or cotton was manufactured mainly by what was known as the putting out system. A trader would provide the raw material to spinners and weavers. They in turn would spin the wool and/or cotton into threads and weave the threads into material. The material would then be sold back to the original provider at the going piecework rate of the day. Spinning and weaving was a true cottage or home industry because most of the spinners and weavers worked out of their cottage homes. The Spinning Jenny invented by James Hargreaves in 1764, but only patented in 1770, contributed to the Industrial Revolution in the textile industry by revolutionising the process of cotton/wool spinning. Hargreaves and his family lived in Stan Hill, a small village in Lancashire, England The Industrial Revolution began in England about 1760 and expanded to the rest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... James Hargreaves began to produce the Spinning Jenny for others to use and improved the design to such an extent that up to 30 threads would be produced with one turn of the wheel. This created jealousy from his neighbours and competitors and became a risk to Hargreaves and his family. He then moved to Nottingham, entered into a partnership with another businessman and constructed a small mill which used his invention to spin hosiers yarn. This all happened after he had a break in at his house at Stan Hill where most of his machines were destroyed. The Spinning Jenny invention was important because it was the first improvement on the spinning wheel and was one of the first examples of the impact a mechanical competitive advantage could have. Operators could spin with as many as 100 spindles. The Spinning Jenny paved the way for other improved versions over time i.e. manually operated machines were replaced by automated ... • 6. The Government Should Not Control What Children Eat Essay Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the United States, nearly twenty percent of children between the ages of 6 and 11 are clinically obese; however the government has no place trying to control this. (CDC, 2008) The current administration over steps its authority moving beyond the control of federally funded school lunches and into oversight of privately owned vending machines in public schools. Major corporations are being bullied into censoring their advertisement exposure to younger children so that the government won t impose their own regulations. It is a parent s responsibility and right to educate their children and control what they eat. The Federal government should not try to control what children eat by imposing regulations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Snack machines are big business in the public school system. They are privately owned and serviced, in order to be placed in schools the vending companies enter into contracts where a portion of profits are provided back to the school. These profits often play a big role in an already tight school budget; they pay for necessities such as copies of student handouts and other teaching aids. Where the problem begins is that the Let s Move program authorizes the United States Department of Agriculture to set standards for all foods regularly sold in schools including vending machines and al la cart lunch lines. Neither of the affected receives funding from the program, making this a controversial issue of the federal government setting controls on state funded schools. The federal government needs to stay out of state run programs, especially when it can affect funding which directly relates to our children s education. Aside from federal restrictions on food in public schools some states have allowed their administration to create and enforce rules that are not their place to be making. At Little Village Academy, a public school in Chicago the principal Elsa Carmona established a rule that banned lunches made at home and drinks from home at school, the only acceptation is for children with allergies. This ruling is an attempt to force the children to eat the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Birthmark, And Rappachini s Daughter, By Nathaniel... Nathaniel Hawthorne was a prominent 19th century American author who is widely regarded for his adequate contributions to revolutionizing modern day literature. In his three works: Young Goodman Brown, The Birthmark, and Rappachini s Daughter, Hawthorne uses a myriad of techniques and stylistic traits to portray ideologies and create interest within the readers. In his short stories, Hawthorne flawlessly conveys his erudition on modern themes of psychology and the human inclination to sin through his astute use of ambiguity and symbolism. In his stories, Hawthorne commonly wrote to explore the evil and sin within man. In his three short stories, symbolism ultimately attests to this. In Young Goodman Brown, Brown adventures into the forest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supported in his writing, Young Goodman Brown, readers are introduced to Brown, a character who seemingly finds Hawthorne s technique of otherworldly events. While adventuring through nature, Brown finds himself entrapped in the blending of the forest with the supernatural to depict the woods taking on a life of its own. From this Brown watches in horror as the devil throws the supernatural serpent shaped staff on the ground, causing it to come to life and slither into the obscurity of the forest. Hawthorne s technique is also found in his work The Birthmark. In his story, Hawthorne creates a supernatural element within the birthmark itself, as it creates the question on whether or not Georgianna is an angel or human. The birthmark, being the only human feature, is the only factor keeping Georgianna attached to reality. When the birthmark is removed, the only attachment to reality is broken and Georgina is taken up into heaven, the only pure place in existence. Finally, readers are presented with Hawthorne s story, Rappaccini s daughter. Beatrice, Hawthorne s physical embodiment of the supernatural element, is first depicted in an enclosed and isolated garden. Though, Beatrice may not dead or inhuman, she possesses a unique and distinct quality, a poisonous touch. Presented through the story, whatever she touches dies and even her very breath kills any living creature near her. From this, Hawthorne leaves readers with a sense of ambiguity with such otherworldly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Column 7L During the initial site walk, cracking was observed on the north corbel of column 7B, as labeled on the 2014 structural drawings for the site. During the renovations in 2014, steel columns were added in the vicinity of the B line of columns in this area of the structure. Given that these new columns may have been added to take additional stresses caused by the renovations and/or additions, observation of the deteriorated conditions of this corbel warranted additional investigation of other corbels in the area. This was not part of the original scope of work, but TKW has observed and reported on the condition of some of these corbels as a courtesy to the client. The first corbels inspected were at column 7B. Both the north and south ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this position, the northern corbel at column 5B appears to have similar conditions compared to column 6B. A significant portion of the corbel has fallen off and is lying on top of the CMU wall in that area (Figure 26). The bearing conditions look similar to column 6B, but exact measurements were not possible. The condition of the beam bearing on the corbel was not visible, but padding for bearing can be seen in the location. At column 4B, the northern corbel has cracked significantly at one corner of the corbel (Figure 27). The cracked portion is hanging from the corbel by a small section of concrete at the top of the corbel. Due to spatial constraints, measurements could not be made, but the section of concrete hanging from the corbel appears to be about ½in thick. Small pieces of concrete were found on the ground in this area, suggesting that the corbel is slowly deteriorating. Bearing pads appear to be in use on the southern corbel only, which shows no signs of deterioration. The northern corbel at column 3B is beginning to crack along one of its corners (Figure 28). Spatial constraints did not permit actual measurements, but the crack appears to be 0.012in 0.025in wide. Due to the presence of drywall in the area, it is difficult to gauge the depth of the crack as the attached drywall could be helping to holding the concrete in place. The southern corbel does not exhibit any signs of deterioration. Bearing pads appear to be utilized on both corbels. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This eminent battle, as well as its catastrophic first day is referred to as a symbol of the extravagancy and unfortunate outcome of Britain s First World War. It was originally arranged to relieve the pressure on the French at Verdun. The immense count of casualties and deaths during this battle have totaled to a record of over 1.25 million dead on both sides. • 10. Social Theory And Social Judgement Theory Abstract The topic to be discussed here is one of the social sciences based on the theories Groupthink and Social Judgement Theory. I will propose a study to analyze the relationship between the number of hours of media an individual receives and its effects on his or her voting behavior. The participants of this proposed study will be registered voters between the ages of eighteen and seventy and residents of the United States of America. The primary method of collecting data will be through surveys. Once the data has been, collected a multiple regression will be constructed. Please note, the terms person, individual, subject, and voter are used interchangeably throughout the document. Introduction This document discusses a proposed study that analyzes a person s media exposure and how that effects his or her voting behaviors. Throughout this document I will discuss the theories associated with the proposed study as well as how this study could impact the theories and everyday life that the theories are based upon. Associated Theories The proposed study is based upon two theories: Groupthink and Social Judgement Theory. Groupthink can be described as a phenomena that causes a group of people to become so extremely concerned with unanimity that each person makes decisions without considering all of his or her options. This type of phenomena tends to hold a negative connotation because the thought process associated with the theory causes people to fall to peer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emily Dickinson Poem 465 Analysis In her poem #465, Emily Dickinson s speaker allow the reader to experience an ironic reversal of conventional expectations of the moment of death in the mid 1800s, as the speaker finds nothing but and eerie darkness at the end of her life. The first stanza introduces the speaker s earliest memory as they are starting the journey of crossing over. Right away the reader is introduced to a fly buzzing around the room, I heard a Fly buzz when I died (1). The fly represents the soul leaving the body and witnessing the surroundings of the life they are leaving behind. The speaker is aware that the people around have crying and Dickinson illustrating the scene with a metaphor, Was like the Stillness in the Air Between the Heaves of Storm (3 4). Speech On Painkillers It s only natural to head straight for your medicine cabinet when you feel a headache coming on, but did you know that you re actually putting yourself in danger by relying on painkillers every time you have a migraine or eye fatigue? Overconsumption of painkillers can and almost always does lead to the body developing a tolerance to them, which makes your regular dosage ineffective, meaning you have to increase the number of painkillers you take to get rid of your headache. This, in turn, can cause you to develop an addiction to painkillers, something that about 10% of Americans are believed to suffer from. How Mitochondria And Chloroplasts Work Together Both mitochondria and chloroplasts are involved in energy transformation, with the former in cellular respiration and the later in photosynthesis. Both organelles have membranes that separate their interiors into compartments. Mitochondria are the sites of cellular respiration, the metabolic processes that generate ATP by extracting energy from sugars, fats, and other fuels with the help of oxygen. After all, how does one communicate with another who cannot hear? Illness and pain is a subjective experience that varies between each individual person. Alisha Ghosh is my cousin; she is a 22 year old female student, currently in her fourth year at the University of Waterloo. Alisha suffers from sever chronic migraines which hinders and interferes with her daily life. Additionally, Alisha s mother also sufferes from sever chronic migraines. It is evident that Alisha s attitude towards pain is highly influenced by her mother. Further more, when Alisha s mother would experience pain from sever migraines she would isolate herself in her room and turn off all the lights as it made her migraines worse. Similarly, whenever Alisha begins to experience migraine pains she isolates herself into her dark room. This illustrates how child rearing practices shape and influence attitudes towards the expectations of pain and how to deal with it. To begin with, Alisha Ghosh is a highly active and hard working student, she is on her university s soccer team and has a part time job at the mall. A short explanation of id ego and super ego is necessary in connecting them to the spaces in the text. Freud s theory stemmed from a need to classify the parts of the mind . From this stems the organization of personality into three parts all of which are demonstrated in the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . The id is the impulsively and instinctually driven section of Freud s personality complex and is based on seeking pleasure. Working Title: Examining the History of Standardized Tests in Higher Education through a Critical Race Lens and Analyzing Predictors of Graduate School Success among African Americans Theoretical Framework and Proposed Research Study The theoretical framework chosen to guide my research in analyzing predictors of success in higher education among African American students is Critical Race Theory (CRT), with an emphasis in education. Critical Race Theory in Education (CRTE) evolved from CRT, which is derivative of Critical Legal Studies (CLS), a 1970 s movement which sought to expose and challenge the views that legal reasoning was neutral, value free, and unaffected by social, and economic relations, political forces, or culture phenomena (Brown Jackson, 2013, p. 9). CLS scholars successfully confirmed that personal biases of judges compromised verdicts in legal cases, claiming that America s legal system only reinforces an oppressive social order benefiting the dominant race more than the oppressed race (Brown Jackson, 2013). CRTE scholars is indebted to CRT scholars (which is indebted to CLS scholars), thus scholars of CRTE should be well versed in the history of CRT (and CLS). Critical Analysis of Giorgio Agamben Essays In, Life That Does Not Deserve to Live, Giorgio Agamben aims to expand on Michel Foucault s concepts of biopower and biopolitics , to express the way in which the state has power over society in the way that bare life is produced. He uses the Latin term homo sacer literally translated to sacred man to describe a life which can be eliminated without punishment , one that possesses no value to the state and therefore can be terminated without the act being considered a crime. Examples of this can be seen in people who experience brain death and subsequently have their life support machine switched off, and in people in prison camps such as Guantanamo Bay. Therefore, Agamben s thesis that the camp can be used as a paradigm for the line that every society sets between bare life and political existence is in itself an important argument. However, he only concentrates on the separation of the two, rather than expanding his argument to illustrate the divisions that are clearly prevalent within each group. Agamben also uses the biopolitics of the Nazi regime to draw a parallel to liberal, democratic societies in the sense that it shows that all societies have the same line in which, when crossed, one becomes homo sacer. This is the state of exception , the point in which the sovereign decides, Which life may be killed without the commission of a homicide . Agamben leads the argument for the state of exception onto one regarding euthanasia. This can be seen as the sovereign uses the state of exception to deem brain dead people as bare life . They possess no economic merit to the state and so their life is devoid of value . The sovereign as a person, who holds the power to decide whether a person is bios or zoe , falls to people who preside over the health of the individual, he/she can be a doctor, a psychiatrist, and a jurist . As these represent the affluent class of society, this shows that biopower is inevitably connected to economic worth. The ribosome has 3 binding sites for binding tRNA, 1 the peptidyl site (P site), 2 aminoacyl site (A site) and the 3 exit site (E site). At the beginning of elongagion, the P site is filled with fMet tRNA, and the A and E sites are empty. Main Themes In The Secret Sharer By Joseph Conrad The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad presents several themes throughout its composite narration of characters and the ideas it amplifies through the novella. Amongst all the many themes that are presented, there is one main theme that is thoroughly supported by Conrad in The Secret Sharer. The theme supported is, the ability that a person has, to change their beliefs due to the inexperience as a leader, self doubt. In the beginning the Captain is an ethical individual, yet his interaction with the murderer, along with Leggatt, reveals him as someone who is insecure, allowing the captain to make many illogical decisions, and in the end put his crew in harms way, showing that he is unfit to remain captain of the ship. The Captain is introduced into the novella as a young seaman, who was chosen to be the captain of a sailing vessel on its voyage back home. The young captain displays himself as an experienced sailor yet is filled with much self doubt as he is the second youngest man on the ship, and has little leadership experience, especially as a captain. The captain s self doubt is easily manipulated by many individuals on the boat when he first gains command. The captain s first impression of inexperience as a leader is shown when he decides to perform anchor watch for the first half of the night. Three great examples of when the government intervened within the market place was the first income tax and Internal Revenue Act in 1862, the Specie Resumption Act during the Panic of 1873, and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The first example of government intervention in the market place occurred during the American Civil War. In 1862, the government realized that they would need a bit more revenue coming in to cover the costs of the Civil War. Because of this, President Abraham Lincoln implemented a tax on household income. A three percent tax was placed on incomes within the range of $600 and $10,000. A five percent tax was placed on incomes more than $10,000. However, as the war kept dragging on, the government realized that this income tax was not going to be enough to cover the expenses of the war. Later in 1862, Congress passed the Internal Revenue Act. This placed a tax on various items. Things like gunpowder, iron, leather, playing cards, whiskey, and telegrams were taxed as a result of this act. The Internal Revenue Act also created a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Summary Of The Federalist Papers The Federalist Papers are a collection of 85 essays and articles written by three of the most prominent men in early United States history: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. All of these essays were written to try to ratify the United States Constitution. Seventy seven were published serially in The Independent Journal and The New York Packet between October 1787 and August 1788. A compilation of these and eight others, called The Federalist; or, The New Constitution, was published in two volumes in 1788 by J. and A. McLean. The collection s original title was The Federalist; the title The Federalist Papers did not emerge until the 20th century. As many as seventy seven were published in The Independent Journal and The New York ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federalist No. 10, in which Madison discusses the means of preventing rule by majority faction and advocates a large, commercial republic, is generally regarded as the most important of the 85 articles from a philosophical perspective; it is complemented by Federalist No. 14, in which Madison takes the measure of the United States, declares it appropriate for an extended republic, and concludes with a memorable defense of the constitutional and political creativity of the Federal Convention.[3] In Federalist No. 84, Hamilton makes the case that there is no need to amend the Constitution by adding a Bill of Rights, insisting that the various provisions in the proposed Constitution protecting liberty amount to a bill of rights . Federalist No. 78, also written by Hamilton, lays the groundwork for the doctrine of judicial review by federal courts of federal legislation or executive acts. Federalist No. 70 presents Hamilton s case for a one man chief executive. In Federalist No. 39, Madison presents the clearest exposition of what has come to be called Federalism . In Federalist No. 51, Madison distills arguments for checks and balances in an essay often quoted for its justification of government as the greatest of all reflections on human ... • 32. Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Psychodynamic Approach To... While psychodynamic and behavioural approaches are the two major approaches to personality, they view personality from different perspective. Psychodynamic approach argues personality is caused by forces in the unconscious but not learnt. Individuals have little control over their behaviour as it is predetermined, and early childhood plays a crucial part in shaping one s personality. Behavioural approach, on the other hand, recognizes personality as learnt and focuses only on present behaviour matters. Given the differences, it has been argued whether, in terms of scientific merit, psychodynamic or behavioural approach is more comprehensive. The strengths of psychodynamic approach are consideration of childhood experiences and recognition of the unconscious part. On the contrary, behavioural approach focuses on behaviour that can be scientifically measured and verified, and recognizes the importance of external environment on personality. From the above arguments, it is finally concluded, in term of methodology and testability, behavioural approach is more comprehensive. Introduction The scientific merit of psychodynamic and behavioural approaches to personality is quite different in terms of supporting whether personality is largely inborn or learnt. The term scientific merit here is defined as the methodology employed and testability of the approaches. On one hand, it has been argued psychodynamic approach relies too heavily on unconscious mind whose existence is hard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Research Report On Preterm Infants Essay Megha Patel Journal article PSCI 1722 Erythropoietin in preterm infants Citation: Fauchere J, Koller B, Tschopp A et al., Safety of Early High Dose Recombinant Erythropoietin for Neuroprotection in Very Preterm Infants, The Journal of Pediatrics (167)1, 52 57, 2015. Background: The article, which was published in July 2015 in journal of pediatrics, gives an idea about the safe use of erythropoietin in preterm infants for protection of nervous system. Premature birth has remained one of the major risk factor for cerebral palsy, cognitive defect and psychomotor development. Hence, the main objective of the study present in this article was to ensure the safety and efficacy of use of high dose erythropoietin in premature babies for neuro protection. The primary hypothesis of this study was that high dose of recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEpo) improves mental develop mental index (MDI) of premature infants born at 24 months of age compared to the placebo. Methods and materials: It was a randomized, double blinded placebo controlled multicenter study, which was carried on preterm born between 26 0/7 and 31 6/7 weeks of gestation. Preterms with congenital malformations, genetically defined syndromes and severe IVH≥III before randomization were excluded from the study. The participants were randomly assigned to receive rhEpo or NaCl 0.9 percent in advanced by computer based random number generator. Epoetin beta 3000 rhEpo/kg body weight at time of birth or an ...
