Importance of Control in Business Organizations.
Define control and discuss the control process and the importance of control in business
organizations. * Define control
Management process in which the (1) actual performance is compared with planned performance,
(2) difference between the two is measured, (3) causes contributing to the difference are identified,
and (4) corrective action is taken to eliminate or minimize the difference
Control Process
The control process is a continuous flow in Taj between measuring, comparing and action. Naturally
Taj follows the four steps in the control process: establishing performance standards, measuring
actual performance, comparing measured performance against established standards, and taking
corrective action.
Step 1: Establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Step 2: Measure Actual Performance. Supervisors collect data to measure actual performance to
determine variation from standard. Written data might include time cards, production tallies,
inspection reports, and sales tickets. Personal observation, statistical reports, oral reports and
written reports can be used to measure performance. Management by walking around, or
observation of employees working, provides unfiltered information, extensive coverage, and the
ability to read between the lines. While providing insight, this method might be misinterpreted by
employees as mistrust. Oral reports allow for fast and extensive feedback.
In Taj computers give supervisors direct access to real time, unaltered data, and information. On
line systems enable supervisors to identify problems as they occur. Database programs allow
supervisors to query, spend less time gathering facts, and be less dependent on other people.
Supervisors have access to information at their fingertips. Employees can supply progress reports
through the use of networks and electronic mail. Statistical reports are easy to visualize and
effective at demonstrating relationships. Written reports provide comprehensive feedback that can
be easily filed and referenced. Computers are important tools for measuring performance. In fact,
many operating processes depend on automatic

The United States Immigration And Immigrants In The 19th...
The United States immigration and emigration is closely linked to the history of railroads in the
19th century. The construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion
Immigrants were not only integral to part of the expansion, but they also used the railroad to
migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements and territories. In the early 19 century, United
Statesexpanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who
defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the
migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans
engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. (Historynet.com). The
settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the
expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France
in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the
land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a
route to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that

Personal Narrative-Outward Bound
I stared into the dark murky lake. The black waters rippled, revealing plastic bags, soda cans, and
orange peels. The stench wafted up to my nose even when standing fifty feet above. I peered
below and shivered involuntarily due to the icy wind hitting me like a ton of bricks. Tightening
my grip on the rails, I leaned back to control my shaking. Voices surrounded me, encouraging me
to jump. But I was transfixed on what s below. Taking a deep breath, I took one step forward. It
was the second semester of sixth grade. Our teacher had decided to take our class on a camping
trip to a remote site near Tsing Yi. It was to be a fun filled three days with plenty of activities. Mr.

My thoughts were running wild. What if there were cockroaches everywhere? This place is so
dirty! I can t believe I have to stay here. I hate dirty places. I want to go home. Everyone seemed
oblivious to the filthiness and started dashing into his or her room. Even Alvina rushed eagerly
into one of the rooms at the end of the corridor. I trailed slowly behind, each step filled with
dread. I stepped into the room and saw her bouncing on the balls of her feet, admiring the sight
before her. I inspected the room with dismay. There were four single beds placed against two walls.
Irritated and frustrated, I dumped my backpack onto the ground and started to

Mesopotamia Disadvantages
The first river valley civilization is Mesopotamia. Southwest Asia is predominantly desert, but
there is an exception. The Fertile Crescent is the name given to land in this area. The Fertile
Crescent is known for having great soil for farming. It is the area near the Mediterranean Sea. This
area was soon called Mesopotamia, which means land between the rivers. The Tigrisand Euphrates
River both run through Mesopotamia. There were advantages and disadvantages that came with
these two rivers. The land around the rivers is wonderful for farming. The soil is very fertile,
hence the name The Fertile Crescent. Although the rivers are good for the farmers, they flooded
every year. This caused problems for the people of Mesopotamia. Some other disadvantages for
the Sumerians included the fact that they did not have many natural barriers. This made it easier
for other countries to invade. Also, there was not an ideal number of natural resources. This was a
struggle for the people of Mesopotamia. It made developing cities... Show more content on

Egypt was divided into villages that lived under their own rules. Eventually all of Egypt became
divided. There was an Upper and Lower egypt. Each kingdom was ruled by a king. Lower Egypt
s king wore a red crown while Upper Egypt s king wore a tall white crown. Eventually King
Namar came around and decided to wear both Upper and Lower Egypt s crown. This was a
symbol of the unification of Egypt. Generally Namar is credited with the unification of Egypt.
Egypt was a theocracy; this meant the the rulers were centered around the religious leaders.
Pharaohs were the Egyptian god kings. They were worshipped and thought of as gods. The people
thought the gods sent the Pharaohs to represent them. When the kings died, they were buried in the
pyramids. The pyramids were structurally designed very well. This is because the kings thought

Descriptive Essay About My Best Day
It was a cloudy morning, darkened gray smudges of wool surrounded the sky, the rain was
showering the school, and the air had soothing coldness of the breeze.
I had P.E. in my first hour. My classmates and I were not very thrilled to start Friday s morning this
way. We thought that the weather would ruin our weekend s plans as if it was disastrous.
Apparently, the gloom of the morning was reflected in our mood.
Our teacher walked in with a towel surrounding her neck since she got half drowned from the rain
and said sarcastically, Listen to me all of you, since we are having a lovely weather today, we are
not going to have any outside activities obviously. So, you can play badminton, basketball and you
are allowed to try the balance beam to whom have climbed and tried it previously. Enjoy our
blessed Friday. After that, she went back to her office to change her wet clothes. She never liked
us in the first place and neither did we.
I was extremely excited to play badminton with my friends because it had been a long time since I
had the chance to play it. When I went to ask my friends to join me, they were excited to do
something otherwise.
They wanted to climb on the balance beam which was located in the gymnastics section of the
gym. I thought it was a terrible idea and I did not want to do it; however, they kept insisting on me
to come so they grabbed my arm and went along with them.
As I entered the gymnastics section, I noticed gymnastic equipment were filling the

Of Creon The Tragic Hero In Sophocles Antigone
What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero is someone who was well respected, but their tragic flaw led to
their fall. In Sophocles Antigone, it could be argued that either Creon or Antigone is the tragic hero.
I argue Creon is the tragic hero in this play. Antigone has the main character as Antigone the
daughter of the famous Oedipus, who married his mother and killed his father. At the beginning of
the play Oedipus has died and Antigones power hungry brothers have killed each other, Polynices
being made as a traitor and left unburied, worthless. Antigone s sister, Ismene, is her only sibling
left, though she is one to follow the rules. Antigone plans to bury her brother even though Creonhas
forbid it, this is where the conflict begins. Antigone

Fast cars, taking drugs, listening to loud music, and going to parties were many activities that
teenagers from the 1980 s did to enjoy their youth and have a fun filled night. Less Than Zero
contains many of these activities and more in a fast paced, fictional autobiography about the life of
a wealthy, college boy during his winter break. This novel shows how life is like growing up as a
wealthy teenager in the 1980 s with no care for anyone in the world. Less Than Zero by Bret

Grendel s Claw In Beowulf Essay
What did Grendel s claw serve as a symbol for ?
In Beowulf, Beowulf had ripped Grendel s arm off by hand ; Beowulf had the grip of thirty men
when all swords was useless against Grendel he ripped Grendel s arm off. The purpose of ripping
Grendel s arm off was because Grendel had attacked Heorot after King Hrothgar left Beowulf in
charge. This was the first time King Hrothgar let anyone in charge of Heorot Hall and Beowulf
wanted to make sure that he do his duty good. So as Beowulf and the Geats lie down to sleep
waiting for Grendel s attack everyone is expecting to die. Beowulf decided to fight Grendel with
his bare hands since Grendel does not use weapons to fight. Then comes Grendel with the attack
and he raised his arm for the attack but before he does anything Beowulf grabs his arm which made
Grendel panic because he never met anyone stronger than him, which led to them wrestling and
destroying furniture and all. Beowulf s men tried to help Beowulf by using their weapons but they

Grendel s claw also has another meaning, to his mother his claw symbolizes sadness for her son
that she loved. It shows her how sickening that human beings are and she eventually retrieved her
revenge by killing innocent people. Grendel s mother saw the claw as a symbol of the loss of her
son, she was filled with grief and rage which caused her to go and retrieve her son s arm from
Heorot. Then that is when she had started to kill innocent people for revenge for the death of her
son. Beowulf decides to track down Grendel s mother and as he track her down he ends up in her
underwater cave. Grendel honestly at this point is not paying the claw any mind as he takes
notice of Grendel s head which he seems to find more impressive. Beowulf also ignores the treasure
and chooses to take Grendel s huge head back as a symbol of his victory of both

Western Influence On Chicanos
Moreover, in the 1990s, two terms were widely used to identify Spanish speaking people: Hispanic
and Latino. The term Chicano is perhaps the best example of this social process. Chicano appeared
in the mid 1960s as a political term of choice primarily among the young. The term identified an
individual actively promoting social change within the context of the social movements of the
1960s and 1970s (Mendoza). In the past the term specifically referred to the unsophisticated
Mexican immigrants. However, to the generation of political activists, their term of ethnic identity
came to signify a sense of pride in their community and heritage. Unfortunately, the racial
stratification that was introduced during colonialism has in many ways significantly affected the
self representation of many of these ethnic groups, an example of this can be seen in the inequities
of the raceand class caste system where Anglo Americans in the United States, Criollos of white
Spanish descent are given more privileges than the mestizas/os and Indians.... Show more content

Women In Sir Gawain
Sir Gawain and the Attitude Towards Women
The portrayal of women is constantly being evaluated, in television shows to politics. The gender
stereotypes surrounding women are archaic compared to the complete overhaul that the rest of the
world has experienced. The 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight expresses the
gender stereotypes at the time: women seen as property of their husbands, being temptations to men
and causing their downfall. The unknown author of the poem writes of Sir Gawain, a young,
inexperienced knight who enters into a Christmas game with the elusive Green Knight and then
embarks on a quest to seek out the Green Knight. He encounters the tempting Lady at Lord Bertilak
s castle and discovers that his quest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One critic who agrees with this interpretation is Geraldine Heng. She writes that women
dominate and shape the destinies of men... Plan[s]... initiated by one woman are directed at
another, performed by a third and modulated by the actions of a fourth (Source G). Heng claims
the whole plot of the poem is directed by women, it is initiated by Morgan le Fey to affect
Guenevere and then is carried out by Mary and the Lady who leads Gawain to the Lord s castle
and seduce him, respectively. This interpretation of the role of women in Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight claims that women have power over the men in the story, portraying women in a positive
light. However, the plot that is instigated by women is rooted in malicious intent from a woman
towards another woman. As the Green Knight says that Morgan le Fey put this shape upon me to
puzzle your wits / To afflict the fair queen, and frighten her to death (2459 2460). Morgan le Fey
wants revenge against Guenevere for as legend has it, stopping a romantic affair she has with one
of Authur s knights. This petty and trivial quarrel is the basis of the poem s plot. This vengeance
pits women against each other and causes Gawain to undergo an immense journey that without this
trivial fight would never happen. The plot is not driven by powerful

Frederick Douglass And The Anti-Slavery Movement
Frederick Douglass was a former slave who worked and powered to be free coming across many
hurdles. Despite his rough beginnings, Douglass became a well written author who later wrote

went on to become one of the most profound black American leaders of the 18th century, he helped
shape and lead the way for the anti slaverymovement.
Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in the early 18th century, approximately around 1818 in

Analysis Of The Complete Maus By Art Spiegelman
The comic book memoir The Complete Maus, written by Art Spiegelman and narrated by both
Spiegelman father and son, is a unique novel because it is the first of its kind. The novel received
a decent amount of varying reactions from the public but was recognized and rewarded the
Pulitzer Prize in 1992 for the originality of the book. A comic stripgenre mixed with the memoir of
the holocaust, from Art s father s first hand experience, throws a whole different wave of emotions

Spiegelman not only provided accurate historical information, but also incorporated an
autobiographical and biographical novel of his own life and his father s life post holocaust.
Using the genre of a comic strip was key to encompassing all three. Spiegelman s use of the
comic strip genre accomplishes his mission to present historical records as well as to present his
father s biography during and after the war and his own autobiography. The story is set in
present day New York and starts with Art going to his father s, Vladek s, house and asking him
about Poland before the Nazis took control. He uses the current day time frame as his own
autobiography in a way. He has short notes that he adds in to give the reader a better
understanding of the current situation or further knowledge and tells stories when he was
younger, plus after his book was published. Each time after his father finishes speaking about the
holocaust, he resumes the days and time between his father s storytelling and from there his
autobiography continues. He chooses to include the comic, Prisoner on the Planet Hell , which
he had made after his mother took her own life. It is the only part of the story that does not have
the characters either portrayed as or dressed up as animals. It gives the reader a quick understand
of his mother s suicide and the impact it had on Art and his father. The entire first part of the novel
is really a biography about Vladek Spiegelman in Poland

China s Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society
For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward
movement or linear progress. China s ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to
internal disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise
of the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence
allowing for imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized
educations saw that the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of
anything Western. On May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against
Confucian culture promoting science, democracy, and anti imperialism. The May Fourth
Movement was a period of total iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute
ratification of western ideals resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun s realist
writing style and Yu Dafu s romantic writing style, the true function of literature during the May
Fourth era is revealed.
May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese
government s poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. The
Treaty of Versailles took the rights to the Shandong providence, in China, from Germany and gave
them to Japan. When attending the meeting, China came with three requests; first was abolition of
all foreign privileges, second was the

Willy Loman As A Tragedy
The Merriam Webster s collegiate dictionary defines tragedy as an event causing great suffering,
destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe. . There is a lot
of controversy on whether or not Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller is a tragedy. Many argue
that it is not because no real grief or pity is created in the audience throughout the story;
however, many more thematic elements are included in this play. Willy Loman, the center of
the story, wants to live a perfect life but he never accomplishes his dreams. His pride essentially
causes his own death and the tragic ending to the story. Rather than living an easy, pleasing life,
he lived filled with agony and disappointment. Willy Loman was more concerned with being
liked and powerful than he was with his own family, his American Dream was unattainable, and
his pride brought his own downfall, all of which created a tragic story. Work consumed Willy s
whole life. The most important thing in life to him was to be a successful businessman that had
many friends and was well liked. Most of the time, his dream, or the American Dream clouded his
head and made him neglect his family. Without a penny to his name, three great universities are
begging for him, and from there the sky s the limit, because it s not what you do, Ben. It s who

Critical Reasoning Self-Assessment
Self Assessment Practicing Strategic Thinking The Critical Reasoning course being offered with
the CSU Global curriculum has been an interesting discovery; the class contains a myriad of
information to both teach a student and more importantly engage a student in the art of critical
reasoning. First the class has provided a lot of extra information to help the students become better
writers. Second the class provides information to help understand media and finding factual
information in the pursuit of avoiding fallacious information. Finally, the class teaches a student
how to become a fair minded thinker and the importance of asking clarifying questions and an
increase of awareness of issues or problems. The Critical Reasoning... Show more content on

Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to
overcome their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul
and Elder (2012) describe it best:
Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without
reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s
friends, community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy,
sound logic, and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one
s group (Paul Elder, 2012, p.19).
This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when
I originally described the importance. Since learning about the traits of a disciplined mind such as:
Intellectual integrity, intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, and
intellectual fair mindedness (Paul Elder, 2012, p. 18), it has been a goal to practice fair
mindedness thinking on a daily basis; at work or at home, when a discussion requires more in
depth discussion, it has helped to ask objective, non biased questions that bore into the core of the
issue and root out the true

Nicholas Stoller s Neighbors
When I got the invite to see Nicholas Stoller s work in progress comedy Neighbors back in
February, I didn t know what to expect. Of course, I knew it was going to be raunchy but my
main concern was whether the film would be actually funny. Seth Rogen s particular brand of
comedy has been largely hit or miss with me as there are times where I ve found him too
abrasive (like in 2011 s ill advised reimagining of venerable radio serial crime fighter the Green
Hornet) but when he s in a role that plays to his strengths, he can be absolutely hilarious. Despite
my mixed feelings on Rogen, the biggest wildcard in Neighbors was Zac Efron. Women
specifically teenage girls may go crazy over his baby blue eyes and perfectly formed pecs and
abs but as an actor, he s been less than impressive. With only the poster as my frame of reference,
I went into the screening of Neighbors and came out ninety minutes later in pain...because I was
laughing so hard! In fact, I enjoyed Stoller s film so much that I recently saw it a second time in
its completed form, although the only things that were missing in the work in progress version
was some post production effects and the end credits. We re barely two weeks into the summer
movie season and already we have a strong contender for best comedyof 2014.

Privatizing Urban Transportation Can Work With Timely...
The privatizing of urban transportation can work with timely public planning. A lot of the issues
to be considered are due to poor maintenance, slow expansion of streets, urban highways and
excessive congestion in many cities. Public and private partnerships can be used to improve the
timing of investments and ensure adequate maintenance of highways. Because of the lack of
funding and political red tape at both the local and federal levels, privatized funding can help
with the development of roadways, create jobs and complete the task at hand. Although
privatization terms and conditions of contracted developers of urban planning can create an
inflexed rate in the use of tolls for many road ways and highways it can reduce the congestion in
many cities. This paper will explore the how poor maintenance, slow expansion of streets and
urban highways and excessive congestion are chronic in many cities. The research will argue
claims that public private partnerships can be used to improve the timing of new investments,
ensure adequate maintenance of highways and streets and manage congestion with road user
charges. It will also elaborate on how this theory of public and private planning can only work with
timely public planning, deft contract design and enforcement and competent inter jurisdiction
coordination as well as show that Public/Private Partnerships (PPPs) do not relieve the public
budget of its financial obligation. The research will touch on how PPPs are preferred over

Edward the Confessor as a Failure Essay
Edward the Confessor as a Failure During Edward s the Confessor s reign from 1042 1066,
Edward faced many problems. According to Stafford, some of the problems had no obvious
solutions. Some historians argue that Edward was a failure as he was unable to deal with the
power of the Godwine, and was even less successful with the power of Harold and thirdly, he was
unable to solve the problem of the succession issue according to Barlow as he shows that there
were no contemporary sources that show Edward dealing with the succession, in the latter part of
his reign. Evidence shown from historians that Edward had an inconsistent policy towards the

This shows Edward as a successful as he defended his kingdom from Swein invading. There is
also evidence from Barlow that Edward always took command whenever possible of an
invasion. Edward provides training of his navy and he gave it leadership when danger
threatened. According to Barlow, Edward was able to deal with the foreign policy going worse.
Edward was able to stop William from forming an alliance with Flanders. The reason why he
does this was because then that would mean they would share maritime power, meaning that
they could help Swein, Magnus or Harold Hardrada from invading England. Edward forms an
alliance with William, meaning that William will not be able to form an alliance with Flanders.
Therefore this shows that Edward was a success as he was defending his kingdom from any
external enemies. This view of Edward is agreed by other historians such as the Vita, ASC and
Ailred. Also according to Snorri Sturluson he says that Edward was nicknamed Edward the Good,
which describes him well…By the English he is regarded as a saint. According to Barlow,
Edward had no ambition to widen his empire his policy towards Scotland and Wales, like his
Scandinavian policy, was purely defensive. Schama supports this view as he mentions that Edward
was concerned with defending western borders of Mercia and Wessex against expansion of the
Welsh princes. Due to all these historians

Me Knife Diamond And Flower Analysis
A piece of art I really liked at the El Paso Art Museum was Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower created
by James Surles in 1999. This piece is three dimensional and made out of pine, poplar and
fabricated stainless steel. The first thing I noticed was the big knife so immediately I was drawn
to go see what it was all about. I found it be very expressive because it definitely made me feel a
little creeped out that there was a knife, leaving me to wonder if this was about a murder, or
trying to tell a story of some kind. The woodcut flower and knife I think was a great touch to the
pieceso it differentiates them from the diamond and the face. The composition of this art piece
shows depth with the face and diamond up front, to the knife behind it... Show more content on

This was another three dimensional piece of work that caught my eye, but not for its beauty.
This piece stood out because it was hideous and dull. The first thought that came into my mind
was what the hell is that? I am not too sure if this it was supposed to be a witch s hat or a
limbless and leafless tree but is ugly. This piece had a lot of texture ranging from very smooth
looking to extremely bumpy which I did not feel was appealing whatsoever. It looked like someone
just starting hitting it from to create dimples. There was no real pattern, repetition or rhythm to the
texture. The higher you looked up on the piece, the more texture that appeared in the surface. The
bottom of the sculpture had a lot more smoother and finer texture to it. I saw this piece just
shortly after I saw Me, Knife, Diamond and Flower which really had my mind stimulated in a
positive manner and then I stumbled across this piece which changed my mood almost instantly.
I was sad to see such an emotionless piece right after seeing James Surles and I felt like I wasted
time in my life just staring at it. I decided to Google what Rolo meant and in Latin America it
means stick. In no shape or form do I see a stick in the artwork. I would assume that it is not
supposed to portray a stick and am left to wonder what it could. Is it supposed to represent
something? Is it symbolic? I can honestly not tell you for sure as there is little information

The Advantages Of Database Management Systems
Assignment 1
Matthew Fisher
May 15, 2016
Part 1: Database Concepts
Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems
A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file system, including
enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable information, and abstraction.
Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data directly pose
problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the innkeepers update a record in
one file, but do not take care to update related records in other files. Where data are kept in
multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual relationship to each other, a file system is of limited
use compared to a database management system (DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships
between entities are enforced.
By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that appears in multiple
locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system model, the innkeepers may choose to
store addresses of guests in both GUEST and RESERVATION files in order to quickly access
address information while booking reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the
other, this results in a data anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well
designed database using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information in the
RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests addresses can still

Theme Of The Poem Strange Fruit
A world without judgement is a world that does not exist. To this day, 4.6 million Australians are
targeted by racial discrimination. That is 1 in 5 of your friends, being judged for having a skin
colour that is seen as wrong . We were not born black, nor were we born white, but what the world
told us and what society brainwashed us to believe that black and white are not the same and should
remain different.
Racism is a belief that a particular race is superior to another resulting in segregation in the world.
It causes a gap in our society disallowing us to stand as one. For centuries, racial discrimination has
been occurring world wide from the Nazi Germany to the Jim Crow Laws in Southern United
States. More specifically in Southern United States, the murder of thousands of African American
people driven by the hatred of the whites, occurred through the practice of lynching. This popular
event attracted many people including poet Abel Meeropol who was haunted by this ionic
photo in 1930. This inspired him to write a poem protesting against racial discrimination which
forces people to confront to the grim reality of racism. The poem Strange Fruit by Abel
Meeropol paints a hostile picture of the lifeless bodies hung by a necklace of rope. Throughout
the poem, the poet has utilised poetic devices to enhance the message of racial discrimination
against the African Americans. The title Strange Fruit in itself is a metaphor for the victims of
lynching, these victims were mainly African Americans, and some were not even put to trial
before they were sentenced death. Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees is a quote from
the poem utilising the poetic device of imagery. It is portrayed in a casual manner as lynching is
found to be a common event which occurred in their everyday life. The last line of the poem
reads here is a strange and bitter crop . Focusing more specifically on the metaphor crop , the
blacks were seen nothing more than fruit for the crows to pluck . Because their skin was not
white, their life is worth no more less than crops; crops who were left outside for birds to eat.
Throughout the poem, juxtaposition is used to compare and contrast the idea of racial
discrimination. Scent

The Evolution Of Health Care Industry
The evolution of health care industry has taken a taken a drastic turn for employers and healthcare

insurance was typically purchased for large organizations; yet drastically lacked in medium to

was noted in economic downturn many organizations removed additional employees to bare
minimum. This trend created a huge spike in uninsured employees or not employed. These larger
organizations had more bargaining power interims of the overall cost of premiums due to their
volume of employees. A very interesting perspective was how health insurancecompanies insured
organizations with formula to possible health conditions probability. In the health insurance
company they take into account the probability of someone developing a serious health conditions
resulting in more money invested within this employee. The health insurance companies have a
preference of larger volume organizations because the probability lowers. In statics a method of

Importance Of Nature In Poetry
In poetry, poets use nature as a reference to reveal something important and make a statement.
There are three poems I chose to write about and explain the importance of nature as a setting.
The three poems are I wandered lonely as a cloud by William Wordsworth, Birches by Robert
Frost, and The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry. In these three poems, the poet uses nature
as a setting to make a statement about an important idea. The first poem, I wandered lonely as a
cloud by William Wordsworth is about the speaker imagining himself as if he was floating
around like a cloud above all the beauties of nature, seeing all the trees and flowers dance in the
breeze. He values being able to enjoy the beauty of nature and everything it has to offer. The poet
uses his thoughts and memories of nature to go to a simple, delightful place when he is feeling
lonely and bored. Wordsworth says, In vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon my inward
eye. He can just sit and think about how wonderful nature is and how it creates a simple peaceful
moment. In this poem, the speaker reveals that he may have enjoyed just floating through life
enjoying the small things. The crowd of daffodils could represent a crowd of people wandering
around with a purpose for something. However, the speaker is wandering around thinking about
nature and values the beauty of it. Wordsworth uses nature in his poem to reveal a memory and a
feeling. He uses nature to express the simplicity of life, and

lower parties become weaker and weaker and less chance of rebellion. The spirits and pocket of
the people are empty. This is good for the Inner Party because it keeps them in power, which is in

A Doll House Character Analysis
Since the beginning of humanity people fought for resources and land to fulfill their selfish
needs. Animals also show the characteristic of selfishness whether it is a mother stealing to feed
her child or two male birds fighting for a mate. However, donating to the poor or helping the
disabled is an act of selflessness. This can also be understood in humans as selflessness and
selfishnessis an instinctually necessary habit that requires balance. This shift between selfishness to
selflessness is shown during 1879 in Europe s social culture. The social culture allowed men to
create an egoistic and manipulative characteristic because of this instinctual imbalance. In the play,

Another piece of evidence in the dialogue is when Nora took up copying work that Torvald
thought it was for decorating the Christmas tree which he mocked her saying it was sorry (382).
This again suggests Nora s selflessness for taking the taunting and teasing even though she was
trying to pay back the loan she borrowed to save Trovald, who mocks her. The underlying
beneficial reason is Nora s care for her family and her fear of her husband finding out. Lastly,
through this pain and fear the shift in characterization starts to occur.
Secondly, towards the end of the play, Nora s characterization shifts to self serving because it is
advantageous to her situation. The shift in her character to selfishness is seen when she admits,
The trip was to save my husband s life (389). This shows her egocentric act against the law by
committing forgery in order to acquire money to save her husband. She commits this selfish act
towards her own advantage for her family. Although the egocentric act is an illegal crime, she
justifies it with her moral necessity. Lastly, Nora s transition to a selfish character can be seen
with the use of a prop and the movement with the prop when she hits [Dr. Rank] lightly on the ear
with the stockings (395). The prop exemplifies a sexual item to which the movement is seen in a
flirtatious manner in order to ask for a favor. The advantage of

Non-Objective Art
The avid artistic viewer in America in the 1930s saw Hilla Rebay s collection at the Guggenheim
museum. They analyzed concluded non objective art stood at the pinnacle of the art world.
Simple to understand, it breaks down the wall between cultures. Non objective art requires no
cultural or theological lens. When viewing non objective art, the observer deduces the following:
In modern day, non objective art offers a sense of relief and beauty unbeknownst to the rest of the
art scene. Therefore, non objective art appears universal. In her essay, The Beauty of Non

Her comparison to music gets the viewer to interact with the piece in a new way. Kandinsky
accomplished a similar task. Kandinsky s works , The bright yellows represent the blaring

uses color to emulate the motion of sound. Her red oranges create a lively melody. Though, it is
important to recognize she is not representing a song. Rebay s composition remains purely non

Rebay s explanations about non objective art are not gratuitous or excessive. She appeals to the

The Social Security Program of USA
Background: What is the specific policy or program? When was it established? How does it
serve older adults? (You can answer this last question in a few sentences.) For example, the
program could fund long term care, social services, or provide income support.) This does not
have to be the longest section. Social security program is a retirement program for Americans
aged 65 years and over. This consists of 92% of the entire American populace. Other
beneficiaries of the program include the disabled, unemployed and aged but the government
must have a record to ascertain that only those that are in need qualify to obtain the benefits.
About 47 million Americans that fall under this bracket collect monthly benefits. On August 14,
1935, President Roosevelt signed a law that led to establishment of this program. This program
serves older adults in various ways, for instance it offers long term care, social services and
provide income support for them. In addition to establishment of this program, the new Act also
created a social insurance program to cater for retired group of employees aged 65 years and
above entitled to receive income after retirement period (Jie Junsen, 2004). Need: Why was the
policy or program established? How many are being served now? How many more are expected to
need the service in the future (over the next 30 years)? During the inception of the Great Depression
and the fall of the stock exchange market, USA suffered tremendous economic downturn.

His daughter in law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the time of delivery. When she
heard the news that the ark of Hesham had been captured and that her father in law and her
husband were dead, she went into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains. As
she was dying, the women attending her said, DonКјt despair; you have given birth to a son. But
she did not respond or pay any attention.
She named the boy Ichabod, saying, The Glory has departed from Israel because of the capture of
the ark of God and the deaths of her father in law and her husband. She said, The Glory has
departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been

The USS Indianapolis Tragedy
We were losing three or four each night and day, said Loel Dean Cox, a survivor of the USS
Indianapolis tragedy. The USS Indianapolis was a Naval cruiser that was hit with a torpedo and
sunk in the Philippine Sea on July 30, 1945. The ship had over 1,200 men on board, with 800
made it into the water, and only 316 survived after being rescued. The men spent four days in the
shark infested waters, now the USS Indianapolis tragedy is called the worst shark attack in
history. The USS Indianapolis tragedy could have been avoided if Captain McVay s request for a
destroyer escort was approved, the ship was informed of the nearby Japanese submarines before
the accident, and if the mission was not as secret, Naval Base Guam could have realized something

U.S intelligence using a top secret operation labeled ULTRA had broken the Japanese code and
was aware the two Japanese submarines, including the I 58 [the submarine that sunk the
Indianapolis], were operating in the path of the Indianapolis (The Story, Evidence Withheld).
U.S. intelligence from Naval Base Guam knew about the submarines and did not tell Captain
McVay, who was already out on the Indianapolis. ...that senior Navy officers knew there might
have been a Japanese submarine in the area but did not warn the cruiser out of fear of disclosing
that the Navy had broken Japan s naval codes (Stout). The Navy was hesitant to give out secret
information out of fear that the Japanese would find out that the U.S. had technology could
intercept messages. More evidence concludes that the Navy knew about the submarines in the
area. They also didn t tell Captain McVay that, right before his departure from Guam (and
beginning the return trip), a Japanese sub sank a destroyer escort, the USS Underhill, in that area
(US Patriot Tactical). If the ship had been informed of the nearby Japanese submarines that were
operating in the same area as the Indianapolis, then the ship could have been better prepared for an
attack or found a better way to avoid being detected by the

Why Golf Is a Sport Essay
Argumentative Essay
Why Golf Is a Sport
A matter of opinion has separated a variety of sports enthusiasts apart, due to the ongoing debate
of whether golf is a sport or simply a skill. Famed golfer Arnold Palmer declared, Golf is
deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at
the same time rewarding and maddening and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has
ever invented. (ThinkQuest.com) These words state what every athlete experiences and feels when
he/she is turning a double play, making the game winning three point shot, or throwing a hail mary
pass for a touchdown. Golfers are athletes too, they train for that big moment just like any other
athlete, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, many people object the physical exertion aspect with golf, that it does not require any. These
objectors who say golf should not be included in that defined group are ignorant to athletics and its
regulations. My definition of a sport is a competition that involves athletes who play to win within
a certain structure of rules and regulations. Anyone can be an athlete; they do not have to be
good to play a sport, as long as they try with some effort. A sport requires certain qualities of an
individual too that it can not be without. Hand eye coordination is vital to every sport out there. A
basketball player has to shoot the ball into the hoop, a football player has to throw the ball to an
open receiver, a baseball player has to swing a bat to hit a 95 mile per hour fastball, and golfers
have to swing their club and hit a tiny ball a couple hundred yards. It is the number one aspect
that is required in all sports. Although it is common to associate sports with many other qualities.
The manly qualities of other sports such as cheerleaders and fights usually are not included in
golf, some figure because it is missing these qualities, that it should not even be considered a
sport. Cheerleaders are important to sports. They keep the crowd excited; they keep the
participants enthused about winning; and they give you something else to look at when the action
on the field of play grinds to a halt. With golf there s not a lot of

is based in the city of Tombstone in the Arizona Territory during the 1880s. The movie is about
the conflict that an ex cattle town sheriff and his family face. Wyatt Earp, played by Kurt
Russell, his older Brother Virgil Earp, (Sam Elliott), and his younger brother Morgan Earp, (Bill
Paxton), come to Tombstone to become miners. When they first get off the wagon at the hotel,
the county sheriff greets them and gives them a tour and they come to a saloon put out the

(Pat Brady) cuts Wyatt in on 25% of the houses takings a night. After this walking back to his

Holiday, (Val Kilmer) who hollers at Ike so to alert the Earps of what is coming. Due to this no
blood was shed. Then a stagecoach rolls into town. On the coach is a play company staring
Josephine Marcus, (Dana Delany). Wyatt is immediately attracted to her and she notices him
down the road and is attracted as well. Then the Earps and Doc go to the Bird Cage Theater
where they take their wives: Wyatt s wife Mattie, (Dana Wheeler Nicholson), Virgil s wife Allie,
(Paula Malcomson) and Morgan s wife Louisa, (Lisa Collins) and Doc s girl Kate, (Joanna

Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food
Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents
when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of
major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in
low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents
must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience
stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious
food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. Many low income
families in Philadelphia have limited funds from which to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy
foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved
neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website).
They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South
Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one
long table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and
vegetables in the community. The Food Trust works with neighborhoods, schools, grocers, farmers
and policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy
food and to increase its availability. The Food Trust efforts with its partners resulted in the creation
of the Fresh Food Financing Initiative. It was the nations first statewide financing program to
increase supermarket development in underserved areas. The Food Trust is a nonprofit organization
that continues to ensure that all children who live in communities have access to safe, healthy and
affordable food. Their key goal of this project is to stimulate the development of supermarkets in
lower income neighborhoods. There are large areas of Philadelphia with few supermarkets, and
many neighborhoods where none exist. There is an uneven distribution of food in

Cosplay Costume Play
Cosplay is the short form of costume play as first coined in Japan by Nobuyuki Takashashi,
referring to fans who would dress up as their favourite anime, game or comic character. In recent
years, cosplay has garnered more attention within cultural studies as well as within the mainstream
media. Far from a childhood Halloween, cosplayhas become a way for fans of many ages to share
their interest in fandom, dress and identity at any age and during the years. Being introduced to
Japanese s culture at a young age and surrounded by similar preference people gave rise to this
dissertation topic. The fascination expanded while reading more about this sub culture and specific
case studies. The amount of time put in while making the art of costume and costume play is
beyond impressive. It s is also interesting to examine the psychology behind costume play and to
understand the fandom through their eyes.

celebration of a favourite fictional character. The key aspects of this research are to understand and
differentiate between fandom vs. obsession and expression vs. escapism with respect to cosplay.
Cosplay promotes practice in which gender diversity is practiced resulting in a display of
crossplays and genderbend cosplays. This dissertation also intends to analyse the phenomenon of
cosplay that helped in sustaining diversity of gender expression and the social stereotype faced by
cosplayers in the society. This study explores cosplay as a community and cosplay practiced
around the world. As the costume play is relatively current and still evolving, online sources

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mm
One of the major disadvantages of OFDM is the high Peak to Average power ratio of OFDM
signal. These multi carrier systems have a problem that Peak to Average power ratio increases with
the increase of number of subcarrier, which causes poor efficiency or serious performance
degradation to transmit poweramplifier. Many PAPR reduction techniques have been proposed.
These techniques can be mainly categorized into signal scrambling techniques and signal distortion
techniques. In this topic, there is study OFDMsystem and short view of different PAPR reducing
techniques like Clipping, Companding, Peak Windowing, Scrambling, Coding and Selective
Mapping (SLM).

Van Nee and Wild suggested peak windowing method. In this method it is possible to remove
large peaks. Peak windowing reduces PAPRs as with respect to increasing the BER and out of
band radiation. Clipping introduces PAPR reduction technique which is self interference The Peak
windowing offers better PAPR reduction with better properties of spectrum. Peak Windowing
technique provides better PAPR reduction with compare to clipping. [5] In peak windowing,
multiplication of large signal peak with a specific window performed, for e.g.; Hamming window,
Kaiser, Gaussian shaped, Cosine, etc.The output spectrum is a convolution of spectrum of the
applied window with the original OFDM spectrum. Hence, the window should have to be as
narrow band as possible, in opposition the window not be too long in the time domain because
various signal samples are affected, this resulting increase in bit error rate (BER).[6] 4.1.2 Clipping
and Filtering Technique

Solar Power And Solar Energy
Solar energy is capable of providing a cleaner energy than most forms of energy generation, and
solar energy is able to be generated economically. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to
the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also
provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of
installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a
solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty
thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax
credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity
cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system
requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills
when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the
requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan.
Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will
be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount.
Within10 years of financing the solar panels, the cost of the solar panels will already made up by
the cost savings from not paying for utility

My First Day Of My Academic Career
How are you in this class? I m sorry, but I ll have to drop you from this course the Statistics
professor informed me. This was upon finding out that I was registered for another math class
which was a prerequisite for the Statistics course. That was my first day of what would turn out
to be a lengthy college career. Looking back the question held deeper meaning than I initially
thought. My reasons for taking that course and others was due to following friends and feelings
of obligation to attend college. I was enrolling in courses as if I were checking off items from a
grocery list. Never meeting with advisors or forming an academic plan, I naively assumed
everything would just fall into place. I had developed no goals nor aspirations,... Show more content

The opportunity allowed me to work and travel, to break away from the stagnation I was seeing
in my friends lives as well as my own. The work, privately contracted security, allowed me to
earn a substantial income while travelling to different parts of the world. This required me to be
away from home usually for a period of six to nine months. In off months I would return to
Florida, where I would enroll in online courses to pass the time. I found the work at your own
pace greatly appealing, hoping the greater flexibility would be favorable. While I did manage to
find some success, I ended up at the same pitfalls. Still devoid of a reason, trying to force my
way in fulfilling an obligation. For me the contract work was always a means to an end. It
provided the ability to solve a problem I d come to understand over the years as I grew older and
wiser. I had no sense of self, no real perspective to call my own. I was in my mid twenties with no
long term goals in life. It was time to make a change, something drastic that would allow me to
break away from the distractions and pitfalls. In September of 2013, I packed up and moved to
Seattle, Washington. To this day, I get odd looks when I tell people I moved here from Florida,
usually emphasizing the need for a change of scenery and weather. In reality, I chose Seattle for a
clean slate and to immerse myself in a technology rich environment.

How Did Empress Wu Change Throughout The Tang Dynasty
In the history of imperial China, The Tang dynasty Empress Wu Zetian occupies a unique place.
She is the only one Empress that ruled a dynasty in China with its thousand years of history. For
almost 50 years she enjoyed the supreme power, first she was in partnership with Tang Gaozong,
a ruler usually considered weak and ineffectual, later as de facto regent for her youngest son and
finally, from 690 to 705 A.D., as China s sole female emperor. Her rise from the obscurity of
Tang Taizong s harem was dramatic and her pursuit of power was ruthless. Her political policies
were controversial and her lifestyle flamboyant. Empress Wu also known as Wu Zhao was born in
Shanxi Province in the part of Wenshui in the 624 A.D. Her father Wu Shihuo was an aristocratic...

educational experience which later would become an undeniable tool for her successful reign of

  • 3. The United States Immigration And Immigrants In The 19th... The United States immigration and emigration is closely linked to the history of railroads in the 19th century. The construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion Immigrants were not only integral to part of the expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements and territories. In the early 19 century, United Statesexpanded westward, across the Mississippi River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. (Historynet.com). The settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route to the Pacific Ocean. The stench wafted up to my nose even when standing fifty feet above. I peered below and shivered involuntarily due to the icy wind hitting me like a ton of bricks. Tightening my grip on the rails, I leaned back to control my shaking. Voices surrounded me, encouraging me to jump. But I was transfixed on what s below. Taking a deep breath, I took one step forward. It was the second semester of sixth grade. Our teacher had decided to take our class on a camping trip to a remote site near Tsing Yi. It was to be a fun filled three days with plenty of activities. Mr. Benefield stood grinning in front of the class, holding a stack of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were advantages and disadvantages that came with these two rivers. The land around the rivers is wonderful for farming. The soil is very fertile, hence the name The Fertile Crescent. Although the rivers are good for the farmers, they flooded every year. This caused problems for the people of Mesopotamia. • 7. Descriptive Essay About My Best Day It was a cloudy morning, darkened gray smudges of wool surrounded the sky, the rain was showering the school, and the air had soothing coldness of the breeze. I had P.E. in my first hour. My classmates and I were not very thrilled to start Friday s morning this way. We thought that the weather would ruin our weekend s plans as if it was disastrous. Apparently, the gloom of the morning was reflected in our mood. Our teacher walked in with a towel surrounding her neck since she got half drowned from the rain and said sarcastically, Listen to me all of you, since we are having a lovely weather today, we are not going to have any outside activities obviously. So, you can play badminton, basketball and you are allowed to try the balance beam to whom have climbed and tried it previously. Enjoy our blessed Friday. After that, she went back to her office to change her wet clothes. She never liked us in the first place and neither did we. I was extremely excited to play badminton with my friends because it had been a long time since I had the chance to play it. When I went to ask my friends to join me, they were excited to do something otherwise. They wanted to climb on the balance beam which was located in the gymnastics section of the gym. In Sophocles Antigone, it could be argued that either Creon or Antigone is the tragic hero. I argue Creon is the tragic hero in this play. Antigone has the main character as Antigone the daughter of the famous Oedipus, who married his mother and killed his father. At the beginning of the play Oedipus has died and Antigones power hungry brothers have killed each other, Polynices being made as a traitor and left unburied, worthless. Antigone s sister, Ismene, is her only sibling left, though she is one to follow the rules. Antigone plans to bury her brother even though Creonhas forbid it, this is where the conflict begins. • 14. Western Influence On Chicanos Moreover, in the 1990s, two terms were widely used to identify Spanish speaking people: Hispanic and Latino. The term Chicano is perhaps the best example of this social process. Chicano appeared in the mid 1960s as a political term of choice primarily among the young. The term identified an individual actively promoting social change within the context of the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s (Mendoza). In the past the term specifically referred to the unsophisticated Mexican immigrants. However, to the generation of political activists, their term of ethnic identity came to signify a sense of pride in their community and heritage. • 15. Women In Sir Gawain Sir Gawain and the Attitude Towards Women The portrayal of women is constantly being evaluated, in television shows to politics. The gender stereotypes surrounding women are archaic compared to the complete overhaul that the rest of the world has experienced. The 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight expresses the gender stereotypes at the time: women seen as property of their husbands, being temptations to men and causing their downfall. The unknown author of the poem writes of Sir Gawain, a young, inexperienced knight who enters into a Christmas game with the elusive Green Knight and then embarks on a quest to seek out the Green Knight. One critic who agrees with this interpretation is Geraldine Heng. She writes that women dominate and shape the destinies of men... Plan[s]... initiated by one woman are directed at another, performed by a third and modulated by the actions of a fourth (Source G). Heng claims the whole plot of the poem is directed by women, it is initiated by Morgan le Fey to affect Guenevere and then is carried out by Mary and the Lady who leads Gawain to the Lord s castle and seduce him, respectively. This interpretation of the role of women in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight claims that women have power over the men in the story, portraying women in a positive light. However, the plot that is instigated by women is rooted in malicious intent from a woman towards another woman. As the Green Knight says that Morgan le Fey put this shape upon me to puzzle your wits / To afflict the fair queen, and frighten her to death (2459 2460). Morgan le Fey wants revenge against Guenevere for as legend has it, stopping a romantic affair she has with one of Authur s knights. This petty and trivial quarrel is the basis of the poem s plot. This vengeance pits women against each other and causes Gawain to undergo an immense journey that without this trivial fight would never happen. The plot is not driven by powerful ... • 19. China s Nationalism And Isolation From Western Society For thousands of years China has operated dynastically, in a cyclic mode, causing no forward movement or linear progress. China s ethnocentrism and isolation from Western society led to internal disorder. The isochronous nature of the Chinese feudal system eventually led to the demise of the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, in 1911. This vulnerability provided Western influence allowing for imperialism throughout the country. Students and intellectuals with Westernized educations saw that the political and social turmoil was attributed to a long history of rejection of anything Western. On May 4, 1919, students led a revolt, called the May Fourth Movement, against Confucian culture promoting science, democracy, and anti imperialism. The May Fourth Movement was a period of total iconoclasm, of complete rejection of past tradition, and of absolute ratification of western ideals resulting in a literary revolution. By exploring Lu Xun s realist writing style and Yu Dafu s romantic writing style, the true function of literature during the May Fourth era is revealed. May Fourth Background: The May Fourth movement occurred as a response to the Chinese government s poor response to the Treaty of Versailles, known as the Shandong problem. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller is a tragedy. Many argue that it is not because no real grief or pity is created in the audience throughout the story; however, many more thematic elements are included in this play. Willy Loman, the center of the story, wants to live a perfect life but he never accomplishes his dreams. His pride essentially causes his own death and the tragic ending to the story. Rather than living an easy, pleasing life, he lived filled with agony and disappointment. Willy Loman was more concerned with being liked and powerful than he was with his own family, his American Dream was unattainable, and his pride brought his own downfall, all of which created a tragic story. Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to overcome their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul and Elder (2012) describe it best: Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s friends, community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy, sound logic, and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one s group (Paul Elder, 2012, p.19). This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when I originally described the importance. A lot of the issues to be considered are due to poor maintenance, slow expansion of streets, urban highways and excessive congestion in many cities. Public and private partnerships can be used to improve the timing of investments and ensure adequate maintenance of highways. Because of the lack of funding and political red tape at both the local and federal levels, privatized funding can help with the development of roadways, create jobs and complete the task at hand. Although privatization terms and conditions of contracted developers of urban planning can create an inflexed rate in the use of tolls for many road ways and highways it can reduce the congestion in many cities. • 28. The Advantages Of Database Management Systems Assignment 1 Matthew Fisher May 15, 2016 Part 1: Database Concepts Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file system, including enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable information, and abstraction. Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data directly pose problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the innkeepers update a record in one file, but do not take care to update related records in other files. Where data are kept in multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual relationship to each other, a file system is of limited use compared to a database management system (DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships between entities are enforced. By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that appears in multiple locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system model, the innkeepers may choose to store addresses of guests in both GUEST and RESERVATION files in order to quickly access address information while booking reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the other, this results in a data anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well designed database using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information in the RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests addresses can still ... We were not born black, nor were we born white, but what the world told us and what society brainwashed us to believe that black and white are not the same and should remain different. Racism is a belief that a particular race is superior to another resulting in segregation in the world. It causes a gap in our society disallowing us to stand as one. For centuries, racial discrimination has been occurring world wide from the Nazi Germany to the Jim Crow Laws in Southern United States. More specifically in Southern United States, the murder of thousands of African American people driven by the hatred of the whites, occurred through the practice of lynching. This popular event attracted many people including poet Abel Meeropol who was haunted by this ionic photo in 1930. This inspired him to write a poem protesting against racial discrimination which forces people to confront to the grim reality of racism. The poem Strange Fruit by Abel Meeropol paints a hostile picture of the lifeless bodies hung by a necklace of rope. The title Strange Fruit in itself is a metaphor for the victims of lynching, these victims were mainly African Americans, and some were not even put to trial before they were sentenced death. Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees is a quote from the poem utilising the poetic device of imagery. It is portrayed in a casual manner as lynching is found to be a common event which occurred in their everyday life. The last line of the poem reads here is a strange and bitter crop . There are three poems I chose to write about and explain the importance of nature as a setting. The three poems are I wandered lonely as a cloud by William Wordsworth, Birches by Robert Frost, and The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry. In these three poems, the poet uses nature as a setting to make a statement about an important idea. The first poem, I wandered lonely as a cloud by William Wordsworth is about the speaker imagining himself as if he was floating around like a cloud above all the beauties of nature, seeing all the trees and flowers dance in the breeze. He values being able to enjoy the beauty of nature and everything it has to offer. The poet uses his thoughts and memories of nature to go to a simple, delightful place when he is feeling lonely and bored. Wordsworth says, In vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon my inward eye. He can just sit and think about how wonderful nature is and how it creates a simple peaceful moment. In this poem, the speaker reveals that he may have enjoyed just floating through life enjoying the small things. That s why people rob banks to get more money. That s why people do unethical business moves, to receive more money. We are living in a money hungry society. People want more money because they know that money is power. This power allows us to change, shape and mold society into exactly what we want. This forming and shaping can make a society more productive which means more profitable. Yet, it is impossible to sit back and hope that a society will conform to what will make you rich. At Winston s job in the ministry of truth, he re writes history to show that Big Brother is always correct. Winston has constant reminders that Big Brother , the leader of the Inner Party, is always watching and regulating his daily events. The Inner party makes such rules, so that the lower parties become weaker and weaker and less chance of rebellion. The spirits and pocket of the people are empty. This is good for the Inner Party because it keeps them in power, which is in turn richer. Yet, Winston rebels against Big Brother and wont let the government control him in such a way. Winston is viewed as the last humanist. He is interested with the basic God given rights of humans. Whether it is, keeping a secret diary to preserve the truth, having forbidden sexual affairs or denouncing the party by refusing to adhere to their false facts, Winston stands up for his beliefs until he can take no more. In today s society, we are plagued by mind control methods as well. These are more subtle than those in 1984 but still have the same premise. The mind control methods used are aimed to achieve the same goal as in 1984, that goal being power. Since we live in such a narcissistic and materialistic society, power entails having money. • 37. A Doll House Character Analysis Since the beginning of humanity people fought for resources and land to fulfill their selfish needs. Animals also show the characteristic of selfishness whether it is a mother stealing to feed her child or two male birds fighting for a mate. However, donating to the poor or helping the disabled is an act of selflessness. This can also be understood in humans as selflessness and selfishnessis an instinctually necessary habit that requires balance. This shift between selfishness to selflessness is shown during 1879 in Europe s social culture. The social culture allowed men to create an egoistic and manipulative characteristic because of this instinctual imbalance. Another piece of evidence in the dialogue is when Nora took up copying work that Torvald thought it was for decorating the Christmas tree which he mocked her saying it was sorry (382). This again suggests Nora s selflessness for taking the taunting and teasing even though she was trying to pay back the loan she borrowed to save Trovald, who mocks her. The underlying beneficial reason is Nora s care for her family and her fear of her husband finding out. Lastly, through this pain and fear the shift in characterization starts to occur. Secondly, towards the end of the play, Nora s characterization shifts to self serving because it is advantageous to her situation. The shift in her character to selfishness is seen when she admits, The trip was to save my husband s life (389). This shows her egocentric act against the law by committing forgery in order to acquire money to save her husband. She commits this selfish act towards her own advantage for her family. Although the egocentric act is an illegal crime, she justifies it with her moral necessity. Lastly, Nora s transition to a selfish character can be seen with the use of a prop and the movement with the prop when she hits [Dr. Rank] lightly on the ear with the stockings (395). The prop exemplifies a sexual item to which the movement is seen in a flirtatious manner in order to ask for a favor. The advantage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Non objective art requires no cultural or theological lens. When viewing non objective art, the observer deduces the following: In modern day, non objective art offers a sense of relief and beauty unbeknownst to the rest of the art scene. (You can answer this last question in a few sentences.) For example, the program could fund long term care, social services, or provide income support.) This does not have to be the longest section. Social security program is a retirement program for Americans aged 65 years and over. This consists of 92% of the entire American populace. Other beneficiaries of the program include the disabled, unemployed and aged but the government must have a record to ascertain that only those that are in need qualify to obtain the benefits. Solar energy reduces the amount of harm to the environment from energy generation, by providing a cleaner alternative. Solar energy also provides jobs for construction and installation of solar powered technologies. The cost of installing solar panels can vary greatly, but its long term benefits outweigh the costs. Typically a solar panel system is a three kilowatts to eight kilowatts system that cost fifteen thousand to forty thousand dollars to install, total cost depends on circumstances of installation. However tax credits and incentives help recoup a portion of the cost in the first year, the savings of electricity cost makes installing the system profitable in under 10 years (Maehlum). Purchasing the system requires a large loan, however paying the loan can be substantially better than paying utility bills when the investment will eventually be paid for. If the system is large enough to handle the requirements of the household, the only payment for electricity will be the cost of the loan. Making loan payments instead of paying utility bills is predictable, and any excess energy will be used as a credit for months were the owner s energy use may exceed the generated amount.
