Questions On Online Internet Marketing Essay
a. Rivalry (Among Competing Sellers)
CyberGold, NetCentives, and MyPoints are the three main online Internet marketing firm. All the
competitors offer similar services and products. Competition is based on a non price dimension like
marketing, brand, and search technology. Competitive rivalry is high as the cost of switching firm is
low. Because this is relatively new business, there are growth opportunities for economic of scale in
advertising. (Gamble Thompson, 2013)
b. Threat of New Entrance
Online Internet marketing has a low barrier to entry. Since the barrier is low, new entries should be
able to offer more incentives, lower marketing cost, and innovative new ideas to market the advertiser
products and service. The threat of new entrants is high because online advertising is relative at its
early stages and few online Internet marketing firm has set itself apart from its competitor. (Gamble
Thompson, 2013)
c. Threat of Substitute Products
The threat of substitute in the industry is weak. In term of mass marketing, the Internet can reach far
more people in every corner of the world. The market is still growing as more users are coming online
and new and improve technologies are improving the median we utilize to access the net. Online
advertising allows marketers to tailor the company s product and services to a select market vice mass
marketing. It provides benefits, cost saving, and flexibility that you can t get from television, radio, or
newspaper. (Gamble

Colonisation Assignment
Colonisation definition
The New Zealand Oxford dictionary (2005) defines colonisation as establishing a colony or colonies
in a country or area (p. 215). That means a group of people invading and fully forming a community
in a new country or an area. In New Zealand, colonisation was the process of British migrants settling
down in the country and building a government after the signing the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.
History of immigration (2005) explains that large numbers of people from Britain came to New
Zealand in 1840, after the agreement with Maori gave This assignment will define colonisation in the
Aotearoa New Zealand context and discuss how Te Tiriti o Waitangi relates to colonisation for both
Maori and non Maori. It will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waitangi Tribunal (2011) writes, the Treaty of Waitangi has two texts, one Maori and one English. The
English text is not an exact translation of the Maori text (para.2). In the Maori version the word
sovereignty was translated as kawanatanga (governance). New Zealand History (2011) indicates that
Maori believed they had ceded a right of governance over their lands but retained the power to
manage their own affairs. Maori had big expectations of the treaty, they hoped there would be a
sharing of authority and the country would be protected from other foreign powers.
Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Process (1999) points out that in reality, when New Zealand became a
colony of the British the treaty was practically ignored, and there was expropriation of land and the
culture of the native people was disregarded. Many British migrants came to New Zealand after the
treaty was signed and the government took land from Maori for British settler families to live on.
Maori had no power to manage their own land once the British government took over. Waitangi
Tribunal (2011) states, ...the Government took far more land than it said it would take (para. 4). Maori
lost much of the land that they had owned for years.
After the Treaty of Waitangi, British (non Maori) become powerful throughout the country and Maori
become powerless. New Zealand in History (2000)

Kingdom Of Heaven Research Paper
The Unrevealed Truth
In this essay I will be summarizing the myths to the truths, of the movie Kingdom of Heaven to the
real life history facts. Therefore Hollywood changed the facts to myths. I will be focusing on the
longbow creation, relationships, and killing Arabs. In the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the longbow
was used in the time of the movie. Unfortunately the longbow was really invented around 1180 C.E..
Created by the Celts in Wales. Which the longbow was not really used by the English military until the
1300s. A longbow is a an incredibly strong piece of wood roughly 6 feet tall and 5/8 inch wide. The
longbow started becoming a great, well known weapon. The Hundred Years War was where the
longbow really showed its strength. In some of the war s most decisive battles the longbow was the
weapon that turned the tides. One memorable example: The Battle of Crecy War.
Relationships in the movie Kingdom of Heaven was not one hundred percent accurate. There is
actually no given proof or records of any romance between Sibylla, (Balian alleged wife in the movie)
and Balian. But really, Sibylla and Baldwin, Balian brother, had love interest between each other.
Sibylla was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Middle Ages. From the Order s founding in the early 12th century, until it was disbanded in the early

Persuasive Essay On Reckless Climbing
Impulsive Mountaineering ¨He who learns but does not think is lost! He who thinks but does not learn
is in great danger.¨ Confucius, a Chinese teacher. Every day there are many helicopter flights into
mountain base camps to rescue the reckless climbers. People ranging from age 13 80 years old set a
goal to climb Mount Everest, and unfortunately, some of these people pay for their thoughtless actions
with their lives. There have been hundreds of deaths due to bad weather, lack of oxygen, the short time
span, and the lack of skill. This is a problem because many of the climbers aren t at the right skill level
and sadly end up paying with their lives. Also some of these climbers who challenge themselves and
end up calling for rescue services cause the deaths of rescuers too. People should not have the right to
rescue services when they put themselves at risk the second they start climbing that mountain.
The first reason people should not have the right to rescue services is that climbers are starting to
become thoughtless with their risky decisions because they know there are rescue services, and
disastrously their lives are being taken away. There have been over 230 deaths on Mount Everest.
(Source 2: Lines 10 11). The average of mountaineering deaths is 25 deaths per year! Perhaps 200
dead bodies remain on the mountain. (Source 2 Line 15). I believe it is very pitiful that many people
are dying because they try something they normally wouldn t do because they know there

Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP
Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP In this paper a server side approach is made
which can reduce processing load per connection. The advantages of running web servers over a basic
transport protocol that is similar to TCP are studied here. The stateless TCP for HTTP decreases the
kernel resources required per TCP connection. So it increases the number of client initiated HTTP
connections per second. Stateless TCP modifications decreases the server s CPU usage and other TCP
memory requirements. This helps to serve small webpages under overloaded situations. Two
Algorithms (David A Hayes, Improving http performance using stateless tcp, 2011) are mentioned that
show the basic operation of stateless TCP, one for incoming packets and one for outgoing packets
from server. These include few rules to react to incoming control packets and also information to deal
with application data. Algorithm 1: incoming Every TCP packet is captured which arrives at port 80

correct sequence and ack number c) Send TCP payload to server via UDP socket 3. If a TCP FIN

Figurative Language and the Canterbury Tales
1. allegory: a literary work that has a second meaning beneath the surface, often relating to a fixed,
corresponding idea or moral principle. 2. alliteration: repetition of initial consonant sounds. It serves
to please the ear and bind verses together, to make lines more memorable, and for humorous effect.
Already American vessels had been searched, seized, and sunk. John F. Kennedy I should like to hear

The Issue Of Credit Cards
Ever since man first walked on earth, goods and services were traded throughout the world.
Individuals needed a way to buy these goods and services. Before the Apple Pay , Samsung Pay , and
all the other new technological advancements, there were goods and services, bartering, animals, food,
exchange and agreements for work (Yahoo). As time went by, we started to see the evolution of the
coins which lead to the invention of the paper currency or cash. With the advancement in paper
currency, individuals needed a place to store the large amounts of money while also keeping their
money safe from harm. This caused the establishment of banks all around the world. These banks
weren t that safe as it is today, but what other choice did individuals have in protecting their money.
As time went on, individuals needed a way to get money fast and stress free. Credit cards came in as a
solution to that problem. On the positive side, credit cards are a way for individuals to keep their
money safe; the advancement in technology helps credit cards become more and more intelligent and
safe, and they prevent the individuals from losing their cash or having it stolen. But on the negative
side, technology has its dangers that make the utilization of credit cards problematic, such as: careless
spending, theft, and scams are some of the ways individuals lose money or land in credit card debt.
Finally, the individual must decide if the use of a credit cards and its benefits is damaged by the

Especially in such a culturally diverse country as the United States, the College of Education has a
very diverse student body and as students transition into becoming teachers having gained skills with
diversity issues will help greatly in dealing with diversity in the classroom.
Along with dealing with diversity future teachers will have to collaborate and communicate
effectively with fellow teachers and administration at the school. Participating in collaborative
activities will prepare students for being effective communicators in the classroom. Learning new
technologies will greatly benefit future teachers with effective communication tools in the classroom
and the workplace. Technology can be used to present new information as well as document
performance for assessment.
Assessment of performance is paramount in the workplace and the framework helps faculty ensure
they are teaching students to be able to effectively engage in reflection of performance and implement
strategies of improving effectiveness of instruction. Not only must students learn this necessary skill,
but faculty must also reflect on their instruction and assess their performance so they can implement

Light-Evoked Reaction Essay
In addition to using whole cell voltage clamp to detect light evoked response, we can also utilize the
voltage sensitive dye (VSD), bis (1,3 dibutylbarbituric acid) [DiBAC4(3)]6, to observe the
depolarization after light stimulation. VSD provides a real time neural activity monitor with high
temporal resolution (ms) and high spatial resolution (20 um)16. According to previous study, DRG
neurons that had incubated in DiBAC4(3) solution and had received UVR stimulation exhibited
increased fluorescent intensity6. Therefore, it serves as an additional method to detect light evoked
response for investigating inhibition of which class of G protein affect DRG phototransduction based

My Philosophy Of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education My purpose of getting any education was to learn all that I can learn and to
be a productive citizen in today s society. My purpose of getting an education and pursuing a degree in
elementary education is to have an impact on many students futures, change students lives, and to help
students to believe in themselves. I will do this by believing in my students and pushing them to
achieve their goals. As a teacher, I understand that politics and geographic zones have a big influence
on what schools are supplied with, and they can have an impact on the education that a student gets.
As a teacher, I will not let these things get in the way of providing my students with a quality
education, and I will not let these things hinder what my students learn. My philosophy of education is
that every child should be given a chance to learn. All children are different, and most ... Show more

these accommodations are not visible to other students. I will believe in these students and have high
expectations for these students as well. Some trends of education are similar to my philosophy of
education. All children don t learn on the same styles, and some teachers understand that. The only
thing I don t agree with about the educational system in today s society is the standardized testing.
This is mostly in the public school system. As an inspiring teacher, I understand that all students will
not test well. I don t think a test should determine whether a child passes or fails, but I do think it
should determine what a teacher spends more time on with that particular

Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper Essay
Why the Police were Unable to Catch Jack the Ripper
In the Victorian Times, smog was a big problem. It made visibility extremely bad, so the murders
would have been harder to witness. There were lots of prostitutes because there weren t many jobs
available for woman, so they were forced on the streets. Most turned to alcohol. The people out at the
time of the murder would have been tramps and drunks, not reliable witnesses. The East End streets
were maze like, and easy to escape from. These were a few of the problems the police encountered.

Theories were on whom the murderer might be, causing tension in the Whitechapel area and creating
more racial hatred. The press received lots of letters from the murderer but held them back. Like the
Dear Boss letter, They didn t give it to the police for a few days, slowing down any action that could
have been taken.
The police had only just been set up when the murders occurred, so had no previous experience. The
only way to prove someone committed a murder was to catch them in the act or get a confession.
Though they increased the number of officers, they only ever came across the bodies, warm. There
was more than one police force operating in London at the time, which meant that there was a lack of
communication. In fact, the superior officers told their subordinates to not reveal any evidence they
retrieved to their rival force, each police force wanting the glory of catching the Whitechapel
murderer. The Metropolitan police force was responsible for all of London, except the city of London,
which had its own separate, City Police force. They were both working on the case because one of the
murders had been committed in the area where the City Police operated, as opposed to the other ones
which occurred in the Metropolitan police forces area. The Detective methods were not

Issue Brief On Net Neutrality
Issue Brief on Net Neutrality Background Information The Federal Communications Commission
(FCC), which is a formal policy actor (Kraft and Furlong, (2015), has faced numerous challenges in
resolving the difficulties involving Net Neutrality. Jamison and Layton state that In 2005, FCC
adopted an Internet Policy Statement consisting of four consumer centric guiding principles, also
referred to as the Four Freedoms to ensure that broadband networks are widely deployed, open,
affordable, and accessible to all consumers. When the agency attempted to apply these rules in 2008,
the DC Circuit rejected the FCC s decision on jurisdictional grounds. These principles could have
been successful if the FCC could have administered this policy. In 2010, the FCC s second attempt
was a light handed, multistakeholder approach for addressing net neutrality issues. In 2014, the DC
Court again reversed the FCC on jurisdictional grounds (Jamison Layton, 2016). Problem There are
four serious problems regarding US net neutrality policy to date. One is a market muddle problem that
offers the same level of internet services while disregarding the differences in competition, geography,
customer type, services, etc. These actions result in hindering advancements by causing undue
analysis and aggressive injunctions on positive consumer protection services. The next problem is an
overkill problem because net neutrality rules force internet service providers from offering service
features. Providers

Natural Killer Cells Essay
Natural killer Cells
Key notes:
Definition: NK cell is a large granular lymphocyte, part of the innate immune system because it uses
germ line encoded receptors. It is found in the blood, spleen and liver.
Life cycle: NK cells develop in the bone marrow from the same progenitor cells as T lymphocytes and
B lymphocytes and circulate in the blood. They have cytoplasmic granules containing cytotoxic
proteins and produce interferon so that apoptosis is stimulated. They rapidly migrate to sites of
inflammation and they have short lifespan.
Action: NK cells kill tumor cells, microbes and virus infected cells in vitro without prior exposure.
NK cells are regulated by activating and inhibitory receptors.
Other role: Uterine NK cells are present in early pregnancy and have the ability to provoke cell
cytotoxicity in vitro, but at a lower level than the peripheral NK cells.
Related topics: Innate immunity, MHC processing and presentation, Antibody presentation

Vegetation Mcs In The Edwards Plateau
In the Edwards Plateau the estimated annual interception loss that is, the proportion of precipitation
that never reaches mineral soil for a given site dominated by stoloniferous grass was 10.8% of annual
precipitation, while a bunchgrass dominated site had an annual interception loss of 18.1%. Oak trees
and the litter beneath the trees intercepted about 46% of annual precipitation (Thurow et al., 1987).
This indicated that shifts in the kind or amount of vegetation affect interception. Vegetation mosaics
are created due to the different infiltration capacities of various vegetation types, where areas under
some species receive more water from a precipitation event than others with lower infiltration
capacities (Thompson et al., 2010).

Roman Catholic Church vs Eastern Orthodox Church Essay
Before the split of 1054, the Roman Catholic Church or Western church and the Eastern Orthodox
Church or Byzantine church were almost one with each other. The two churches held the same ideals
and got along with one another the majority of the time. They had previous splits in the past but they
were never a permanent situation because they usually found a solution to their issues and differences.
The split between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in 1054 seemed to

The theological differences were some of the biggest reason why the Roman Catholic and Eastern
Orthodox churches split. The Eastern churches had theological roots in Greek philosophy and the
Western churches had theologies that constructed on their Roman law ( Schism of 1054 , 2014, para.
3). A strong issue that the two churches had was the theological proposition of the placement and
addition of the Son to the Roman creed. The Roman churches included the Father and the Son in the
Nicene creed without consulting the Eastern church while the Eastern church only used the Father.
The Orthodox Church believe it should have been written with the Father proceeded by the Holy
Spirit. Besides theological differences between the two churches there were also political and cultural
controversies. Before the split the Western church had begun to push for the solidification of papal
authority. The push for papal authority would cause the churches to become more autocratic and
centralized (Dennis, The East West Schism, para. 10). This push had taken a damper on the entire
church and the hostility began to grow. Problems arose in Southern Italy (then under Byzantine rule)
in the 1040s, when Norman warriors conquered the region and replaced Greek [Eastern] bishops with
Latin [Western] ones (Dennis, para. 5). After Cerularius was informed that the Normans were

John Winthrop s The Puritan
In the Puritan religion, one cannot love anything more than one loves God. In the case of John
Winthrop, this edict became an issue. He did not want to abandon the Church of England as the
separatists did, a decision which eventually led to the pilgrims starting their own new church.
Winthrop wanted to purify the church; however, the government in England made this particularly
hard and eventually this is what led to Winthrop leaving England for the New World to solve the
Puritan Dilemma. The Puritan Dilemma was a figurative battle between the Church of England and
the Puritan religion. It was also a real threat with opposing religions that would come and threaten the
Puritans way of life. John Winthrop recognized these problems and sought to remedy them.
In the early 1600 s, John Winthrop grew up in a very wealthy family. He attended college at 15 and at
17 he was married. Winthrop loved his wife very much but at times he thought maybe too much (he
remarried 3 times because his first 2 wives passed away). As a Puritan, Winthrop dedicated his life to
God, but as he got older, England s government made it harder and harder to be a Puritan, due to the
fact that the king said outright he hated Puritans. Winthrop went on to study law and eventually
became a common attorney in the court of wards; though Winthrop was happy to get this job, it kept
him away from his family. After a short while in this position, Winthrop began to feel less and less

Service Breadth And Reliability Of Intermodal Service
Intermodal service evolves
The full range of interdependent intermodal (IMDL) transportation and distribution services have
evolved in recent years and now offer the service breadth and reliability necessary to play an
important part in domestic and global supply chains.
Intermodal was once a slow trailers on rails alternative to inter city trucking with less than dependable
transit times typically available only between limited sets of origin and destination cities. The service
was not integrated with other transportation and distribution components of the supply chain.
Today, intermodal offers dependable, flexible and cost effective linehaul, dray and transload options
for large and small shippers moving products through logistics networks, whether across North
America between major population centers, or as final miles distribution of an international supply
chain. Increasingly, Intermodal is being leveraged by shippers over relatively short distances at a cost
that s competitive with OTR (Over The Road) trucking service and with scheduled and reliable transit
times.

World War 2 Poster Analysis
In the 20th century, wartime controls that governments enforced onto citizens had a greater impact on
the Australian society during World War II of that time than it did in World War I. Government
propaganda was more widespread during the Second World War compared to the first and in Australia
during World War I, the prime minister of the time, Billy Hughes, ordered that full conscription for
men to be enlisted in overseas service through two plebiscites. The changing roles of Women, left an
everlasting impact over Australia after WWII since women during the first world war were given jobs

Women were often discouraged by the government in World War I to not perform military work
mostly due to the fact that men were often seen to be the providers and protectors of their families,
and if a woman attempts to join the army it was seen as her taking the role of the man. The only roles
women were offered in the First World War were the jobs of nurses. However, by the time the Second
World War arrived, this was no longer an issue. With the lack of men in the work force in World War
II, women everywhere were called to help however they can with many taking on agricultural and
mechanical jobs with some even enlisting in the army to be a nurse. In World War I, women were only
asked to fill the roles left by men who went off to fight in the war. Many these jobs were factory jobs
in munition factories. The high demands for weapons and munitions resulted in these factories
becoming the highest employer of women at that time. However, if a woman was unable to help, she
was encouraged by the government to fundraise for the men that were fighting and this resulted in the
establishment of many Australian charities which still exists today. The Australian Red Cross is a

High School Cliques In High Schools
Any teen movie ever made has successfully pushed the social hierarchal agenda. Look at any John
Hughes movie from the 1980 s and you ll see a familiar trend. The common stereotypical high school
cliques such as the popular crowd, the jocks, and the nerds flashed across the screen. Ever since the
inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept jocks was
reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world. Though these
heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to be exempt from
the trend. Studies show the exemption could stem from the size of the school. However, the amount of
freedom the students have also made a difference when it comes to social order. Daniel McFarland, a
professor of education at Stanford Graduate School of Education, conducted a study monitoring two
separate high schools on what causes cliques, and why they occur. McFarland states in his research
Larger schools that offer more choice and variety are most likely to form hierarchies, cliques, and self
segregation, ... In smaller schools, and in smaller classrooms, you force people to interact, and they are
less hierarchical, less cliquish, and less self segregated. His study was conducted in two different high
schools over two semesters. He goes on to say, Schools that offer students more choice more elective

In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between the
dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and images
of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney movies
exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces the
stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by adding
multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s popular animated
films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested the Disney version of The
Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure a place in a patriarchal society.
The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain access to the male sphere society by
sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The little Mermaid as also more liberatory
because it contains the means of its own undoing in the camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and
in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows the mermaid with both access and voice (2016,
p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet is the way to show the conflict for women finding

The Emergency Of Climate Change And Why People Are Failing
Take Home Essay #2 (Response #1)
The article written by Franz and Mayer (2009) explains how an everyday situation or global issue is
perceived as an emergency. In the article the authors focus on the emergency of climate change and
why people are failing to take action. To help explain this, Franz and Mayer convey to us a system that
includes five steps: step one, noticing the event; step two, interpreting the event as an emergency; step
three, feeling personally responsible to act; step four, knowing what to do; and step five, implementing
the required acts.
While the main point of this article is the aforementioned system, they extend this five stage model to
explore why people do and do not take action against climate change. In the first step, Franz and
Mayer provide examples of a couple of things that attest to climate change. Things like rising CO2
emissions and temperature changes are only amongst a few of the things that contribute but two of the
main factors. The authors mention that, People in modern industrial societies like the United States
spend up to 90% of their time indoors in artificial, temperature controlled environment s (Evans
McCoy, 1998). It is things like these that contribute to the inability of some to see climate change as
an issue because they are so disconnected from the world around them, but as the authors conveyed
the opposite, people who are intimately tied to the environment do tend to notice the environmental
changes that are taking

Canned biscuits and rolls had been developed by Southern companies that recognized there was
money to be made selling traditional culture back to a rapidly changing region, he writes.
Convenience foods allowed consumers to serve foods that reflected the regions past but could be
produced with low cost with new efficiency. Fast food chains began to pop up across the south mid
century. Harland Sanders opened Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1952 and sold southern style biscuits on
his menu. Hardees was founded in 1960 and pioneered the market for breakfast biscuits, served at the

The Washington Memorial Honors A Special Purpose That...
Monuments and memorials serve a special purpose that symbolize events and/or people that have
made an impact. The Washington Memorial honors the first president of the U.S., George Washington,
the Statue of Liberty is a universal symbol of freedom, and the World Trade Center honors those who
were involved in 9/11. All of these monuments and memorials are very popular; however, there is a
little known architectural masterpiece called Angkor Wat or temple city in Cambodia that is worthy of
discussion. Located at Angkor, Cambodia, it was built in the early 12th century for King Suryavarman

Benefits Of Retirement Plan Will Fit Financial Needs
Introduction
Choosing which retirement plan will fit financial needs is not always the easiest decision to make.
While investing in both traditional and Roth individual retirement accounts (IRAs) appears to draw
considerable attention, differences in the rules for contributing to and withdrawing from these
retirement plans places individuals and married couples in a predicament. They may choose to invest
in either a traditional or Roth IRA while they may also choose to invest in self direct, direct
contribution (DB) or defined benefit (DB) plans sponsored by employers. In any case, individuals and
married couples approaching retirement age should carefully consider their own financial needs before
choosing to invest in any retirement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other types of earned income include alimony and military differential pay, but does not include
interest or dividends from investments, income from rental property and pension payments (para. 3).
In terms of contribution limits for individuals and married couples with a Roth IRA, if earned income
for one year is less than the contribution limits, they may only contribute up the total earned income
amount (para. 4). As of 2014, for individuals and married couples under the age of 50, the annual
contribution limit is $5,500. For married couples filing separately, the earned income limit for making
contributions to a Roth IRA is $10,000. Otherwise, a married filing separately does not have any
eligibility for making contributions to a Roth IRA.
Tax Incentives Both traditional and Roth IRAs have generous tax incentives (Spors, para. 3).
However, claiming the tax incentives for either a traditional or a Roth IRA depends on timing. With
traditional IRAs, contributions made to it based on earned income are tax deductible on both state and
federal income tax returns for each year that an individual or married couple contributes (para. 3).
Withdrawals made during retirement receive the ordinary income tax rate (para. 3). Roth IRAs,
however, do not provide any tax incentives for any contributions made to the account, though earnings
and withdrawals are mostly tax free (para. 3). In other words, with traditional IRAs, contributions do
not have

Pass the Potato Chips
Has mankind discovered some fantastic substitute for fat to enable people to eat as many snacks as
possible without gaining weight? Recently, Proctor Gamble developed Olestra (sucrose polyester), a
zero calorie fat based substitute, at a cost of $200 million. This product has been approved by the
Federal Drug Administration (FDA) with warning labels.
What is olestra?
The olestra molecule differs from a fat molecule in that it has six to eight fatty acids on a sucrose core,
as opposed to three fatty acids on a glycerol core. The bulkier olestra molecule is not digested,
absorbed , or metabolized, and thus provides no calories (Stern Hermann Zaidins ,1992 ). It has the
same taste and texture of fat, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are there any side effects?
There are some interesting drawbacks to olestra. Olestra causes diarrhea and affects the absorption of
Vitamins A, D, E, and K. In essence, olestra acts like a giant sponge, taking nutrients out of the body
before they have a chance to be absorbed in the intestines. Olestra may cause abdominal cramping and
loose stools in some individuals, and inhibits the body s absorption of certain fat soluble vitamins and
nutrients, said Commissioner of Food and Drugs, David A. Kessler, M.D. (
http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/NEW00524.html). In one study, almost one half of the group
reported having diarrhea, bloating, and gas disturbances after eating eight grams of olestra, the
equivalent of less than the amount of olestra in one ounce of potato chips
(http://plainfield.bypass.com/%7Etwilbur/olestra.html). Since olestra blocks Vitamins A, D, E, and K,
these nutrients cannot protect us against disease. The FDA requires that Vitamins A, D, E, and K be
added to all products with olestra. Olestra also blocks the absorption of beta carotene. Foods rich in
beta carotene, such as sweet potatoes, broccoli, cantaloupe, and many other fruits and vegetables
protect the immune system, and act as a buffer against cancer and heart disease. Studies have shown
that eating even a small snack bag of olestra fried potato chips can reduce blood levels of beta
carotene by 60%

The Trial of Jesus Essay
In The Judaeo Christian Tradition by Jack H. Hexter, the trial of Jesus is addressed in an unorthodox
perspective. The trial of Jesus incorporates two trials: the Roman trial and the Jewish trial. In Hexter s
book the Roman trial is addressed in great length while the Jewish trial is almost unaddressed. Hexter
provides a perspective of the trial of Jesus with only one cause: the charge of sedition, for claiming to
be king of the Jews. By using the four gospel texts, Hexter s view is illuminated and we find crucial
aspects to the trial that not only counter Hexter s view on the sedition charge but also provide evidence
for other important charges. Themes other than the charge of sedition supporting Hexter s perspective
include, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hexter blames Pilate for being the sole decision maker for the death of Jesus, but once again, the Four
Gospel texts allude the Jewish community for being a major influence upon the death of Jesus. Hexter
begins his thesis with one sentence stating that only Pilate gave the order of Jesus death: ...who in turn
gave him to the procurator Pontius Pilate for trial. (Hexter 63) Hexter does not address the Jewish
community that is in upheaval during a time of Passover or Pilates role throughout the trial. Pontius
Pilate, as Roman Governor, had a position to fulfill to the Roman population along with the Jewish
community. During a time of Jewish Passover, along with the chaos Jesus had created, Pilate was
under great influence from many outside factors. The stir created by Jesus preaching and the size of
his following perturbed both the Roman and the Jewish authorities, fearful of any wind that might fan
the smoldering discontent in Palestine into a raging flame of revolt. (Hexter 62) In the Roman trial,
Pilate was chosen to judge Jesus on the act of sedition, however counter to Hexter s perspective,
repeatedly stated that he saw no case against him. In the Gospel of John, it is apparent that Pilate not
only doesn t want to be involved but is puzzled at the situation at hand. Your own nation and the chief
of priests have handed you over to me; what have you done? (John 18:33) Pilate is attempting to keep
order in his city and rather not involve

Similarities Between Hercules And The Myth Of Hercules
Authors, poets, and film directors have all used ancient stories to create new pieces of literature and
film works for modern times. The animated Disney film Hercules (1997) and the myth of Hercules
share the background of audience driven narratives; however, Disney s aspiration to fill the theaters
and earn money results in an unblemished narrative, while the original myth portrays an imperfect
model to a flawed humanity. Greek mythology has been passed on and retold over generations.
Literature and movies have been created to entertain as well as provide specific themes based off of
myths. There are many heroes that mythology talks about and each one has lived an epic life, but there
is one famous hero that has been immortalized throughout history. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a
mortal named Alcmene. Zeus impregnated her while her husband was away and this is where his story
began. Zeus wife, Hera, found out about the affair and was outrageous about his careless actions. She
tried to prevent Hercules birth; however, when that didn t work she sent snakes to kill the baby.
Hercules was too mighty for the snakes and strangled them before they could even hurt him. As stated
in this source, Hera remained angry. How could she get even? Hera knew that she would lose in a
fight, and that she wasn t powerful enough to prevent Zeus from having his way. Hera decided to pay
Zeus back for his infidelity by making the rest of Hercules life as miserable as she could (Crane
WEB). Hercules grew up to be a great young warrior and was all around. With this god like strength,
also came an uncontrollable temper that made him react at times without thinking, but later made him
realize the wrongdoings of his violence. He later then married a woman named Megara and had two
beautiful children. But one day, Hera instilled a fit of rage into Hercules and made him slaughter his
family with his very own hands. He was shocked by his actions and asked Apollo for assistance since
he was drowning in guilt. Apollo later then gave him specific tasks to help Hercules redeem himself
for the bloodshed he caused. The hero was sent to Eurystheus, and under his strict hand, he was to
accomplish twelve labors over the next twelve years.

Essay about Shrek s Message
Shrek s Message
In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts. The prince usually rescues the princess, they
marry and live happily ever after. How do the makers of Shrek use presentational devices to reverse
this tradition, to reveal the Ogre as good, and the Prince as evil?
In this essay I am going to analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad and write about how the
film makers use different interpretations making Shrek as good and the Prince as evil to create an
unusual fairytale.
In traditional fairytales they start with an elaborate book which opens up to tell the story, gradually
each page of the book turns to reveal the next page. The book starts by telling the ... Show more

Shrek he runs into Shreks house and bounces on his chair. Shrek does not succeed when he tries to
stop Donkey, which suggests that Shrek isn t really a terrifying ogre! Unbeknown to Shrek fairytale

An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser
The American Dream has been the subject of countless American novels since it first was concepted.
Though the specifics have evolved over time, and it is unique to each person, the general idea has
stayed the same: become rich, retire early, own a large home and high quality items. In the book, An
American Tragedy, main character Clyde Griffiths is one of many who pine for the American dream,
wanting . . . the fine clothes, the handsome homes, the watches, rings, pins that someboys sported . . .
(Dreiser 19) and a high class social status not to mention the benefits that coincide with being high
class.. However, regardless of how much Griffiths dreamed his dream, he was never to achieve it.
Throughout An American Tragedy, the sentiment that Clyde Griffiths was not meant to live the
American Dream echoed numerous times in how he was raised, the era in which the novel is set, and
the unique personality which clearly defined his character. A huge factor which determined the plot of
the book was the method by which Griffiths was raised. In the first five chapters of An American
Tragedy, Clyde s home life is portrayed. Griffiths was a young boy who was born into a low class
family, and whose life centered on Evangelical teaching. Growing up, his parents constantly barraged
him with their strong religious beliefs, and enforced their morals with great force and conviction.
Unfortunately, they raised Clyde by using the authoritarian parenting method, contributing greatly to

Moreover, it becomes easy to understand the network process as it can be explained through seven
different steps. It is important to note that each of these layers is inter related and acts as a support for
the respective upper layers. Below is the diagrammatic representation of the seven different layers of
the OSI model. Figure 1: OSI Model As shown in the above figure 1, these seven layers can be
segmented into two groups namely; Upper Layers and Lower Layers. Upper layers comprises of top
three layers such as Application, Presentation, and Session whereas lower layers comprises of
remaining layers such as Transport, Network, Data Link and Physical. In general, the upper layers are
mostly software programs running on a computer or some hardware device which interacts with the
user and are primarily concerned with implementing the application running over the network whereas
the lower layers are mostly hardware at physical layer and steadily involves software as it moves
closer to network layer and it mainly takes care of data formatting, data encryption and data
transmission over the network. 2.1. OSI Layering Layer 1 Physical Layer It is the bottom layer of the
OSI protocol stack as shown in figure 1. It is termed as physical , mainly because it facilitates physical

Living in Jacksonville, NC versus Living in San Diego, Ca
Compare and Contrast Final Draft
Samantha Deal As a military brat, I was born and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina; and have
lived here for most of my life. Recently our family was stationed in San Diego, California, and the
move was a great eye opener for me. When I moved to San Diego, I was surprised by the diversity of
cultures, the abundance of activities, and how the crowds of people never stopped. It is an excellent
place for people who enjoy being amongst other people; there is never a lack of entertainment day or
night. Jacksonville, North Carolina on the other hand, is more for people who like a relaxed and quiet
family oriented lifestyle. The city of Jacksonville, and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base are home to
170,000 Marines, Sailors, retirees, and civilians. There are plenty of things to do in Jacksonville, the
only problem is you have to look for them. For example, on the Jacksonville website, there are
seafood festivals to attend, crab boils, and beach events among other things. We have deep sea fishing
for blue marlin with a top prize of $1,000,000 which attracts people from all over the country. People
can join the Clean and Green Jacksonville initiative which entails improving, and maintaining the
parks, roadways, and landscapes. Also, the Sturgeon City Institute is focused on bringing back the
endangered Sturgeon to the New River. In addition, Rails and Trails, it is a jogging and biking path
that starts downtown and ends at Camp Lejeune; and

  • 2. Questions On Online Internet Marketing Essay a. Rivalry (Among Competing Sellers) CyberGold, NetCentives, and MyPoints are the three main online Internet marketing firm. All the competitors offer similar services and products. Competition is based on a non price dimension like marketing, brand, and search technology. Competitive rivalry is high as the cost of switching firm is low. Because this is relatively new business, there are growth opportunities for economic of scale in advertising. (Gamble Thompson, 2013) b. Threat of New Entrance Online Internet marketing has a low barrier to entry. Since the barrier is low, new entries should be able to offer more incentives, lower marketing cost, and innovative new ideas to market the advertiser products and service. The threat of new entrants is high because online advertising is relative at its early stages and few online Internet marketing firm has set itself apart from its competitor. (Gamble Thompson, 2013) c. Threat of Substitute Products The threat of substitute in the industry is weak. In term of mass marketing, the Internet can reach far more people in every corner of the world. The market is still growing as more users are coming online and new and improve technologies are improving the median we utilize to access the net. Online advertising allows marketers to tailor the company s product and services to a select market vice mass marketing. It provides benefits, cost saving, and flexibility that you can t get from television, radio, or newspaper. (Gamble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Colonisation Assignment Colonisation definition The New Zealand Oxford dictionary (2005) defines colonisation as establishing a colony or colonies in a country or area (p. 215). That means a group of people invading and fully forming a community in a new country or an area. In New Zealand, colonisation was the process of British migrants settling down in the country and building a government after the signing the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. History of immigration (2005) explains that large numbers of people from Britain came to New Zealand in 1840, after the agreement with Maori gave This assignment will define colonisation in the Aotearoa New Zealand context and discuss how Te Tiriti o Waitangi relates to colonisation for both Maori and non Maori. It will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Waitangi Tribunal (2011) writes, the Treaty of Waitangi has two texts, one Maori and one English. The English text is not an exact translation of the Maori text (para.2). In the Maori version the word sovereignty was translated as kawanatanga (governance). New Zealand History (2011) indicates that Maori believed they had ceded a right of governance over their lands but retained the power to manage their own affairs. Maori had big expectations of the treaty, they hoped there would be a sharing of authority and the country would be protected from other foreign powers. Treaty of Waitangi Settlement Process (1999) points out that in reality, when New Zealand became a colony of the British the treaty was practically ignored, and there was expropriation of land and the culture of the native people was disregarded. Many British migrants came to New Zealand after the treaty was signed and the government took land from Maori for British settler families to live on. Maori had no power to manage their own land once the British government took over. Waitangi Tribunal (2011) states, ...the Government took far more land than it said it would take (para. 4). Maori lost much of the land that they had owned for years. After the Treaty of Waitangi, British (non Maori) become powerful throughout the country and Maori become powerless. • 4. Kingdom Of Heaven Research Paper The Unrevealed Truth In this essay I will be summarizing the myths to the truths, of the movie Kingdom of Heaven to the real life history facts. Therefore Hollywood changed the facts to myths. I will be focusing on the longbow creation, relationships, and killing Arabs. In the movie Kingdom of Heaven, the longbow was used in the time of the movie. Unfortunately the longbow was really invented around 1180 C.E.. Created by the Celts in Wales. Which the longbow was not really used by the English military until the 1300s. A longbow is a an incredibly strong piece of wood roughly 6 feet tall and 5/8 inch wide. The longbow started becoming a great, well known weapon. The Hundred Years War was where the longbow really showed its strength. In some of the war s most decisive battles the longbow was the weapon that turned the tides. One memorable example: The Battle of Crecy War. Relationships in the movie Kingdom of Heaven was not one hundred percent accurate. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Reckless Climbing Impulsive Mountaineering ¨He who learns but does not think is lost! He who thinks but does not learn is in great danger.¨ Confucius, a Chinese teacher. Every day there are many helicopter flights into mountain base camps to rescue the reckless climbers. People ranging from age 13 80 years old set a goal to climb Mount Everest, and unfortunately, some of these people pay for their thoughtless actions with their lives. There have been hundreds of deaths due to bad weather, lack of oxygen, the short time span, and the lack of skill. This is a problem because many of the climbers aren t at the right skill level and sadly end up paying with their lives. Also some of these climbers who challenge themselves and end up calling for rescue services cause the deaths of rescuers too. People should not have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk the second they start climbing that mountain. The first reason people should not have the right to rescue services is that climbers are starting to become thoughtless with their risky decisions because they know there are rescue services, and disastrously their lives are being taken away. There have been over 230 deaths on Mount Everest. (Source 2: Lines 10 11). The average of mountaineering deaths is 25 deaths per year! Perhaps 200 dead bodies remain on the mountain. (Source 2 Line 15). I believe it is very pitiful that many people are dying because they try something they normally wouldn t do because they know there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP In this paper a server side approach is made which can reduce processing load per connection. The advantages of running web servers over a basic transport protocol that is similar to TCP are studied here. The stateless TCP for HTTP decreases the kernel resources required per TCP connection. So it increases the number of client initiated HTTP connections per second. Stateless TCP modifications decreases the server s CPU usage and other TCP memory requirements. This helps to serve small webpages under overloaded situations. Two Algorithms (David A Hayes, Improving http performance using stateless tcp, 2011) are mentioned that show the basic operation of stateless TCP, one for incoming packets and one for outgoing packets from server. These include few rules to react to incoming control packets and also information to deal with application data. Algorithm 1: incoming Every TCP packet is captured which arrives at port 80 and following operations are performed, 1. If it s a TCP SYN packet, send back a TCP SYN/ACK 2. If TCP DATA packet a) Store ack number and start timer b) Send TCP ACK packet back to sender, correct sequence and ack number c) Send TCP payload to server via UDP socket 3. If a TCP FIN packet, send back TCP FIN/RST/ACK and delete data and timer stored at 2a 4. If none of above drop the packet Algorithm 2: outgoing Event 1: On a local UDP socket send a request on port 80 and perform these 1. Check if source and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Issue Of Credit Cards Ever since man first walked on earth, goods and services were traded throughout the world. Individuals needed a way to buy these goods and services. Before the Apple Pay , Samsung Pay , and all the other new technological advancements, there were goods and services, bartering, animals, food, exchange and agreements for work (Yahoo). As time went by, we started to see the evolution of the coins which lead to the invention of the paper currency or cash. With the advancement in paper currency, individuals needed a place to store the large amounts of money while also keeping their money safe from harm. This caused the establishment of banks all around the world. These banks weren t that safe as it is today, but what other choice did individuals have in protecting their money. As time went on, individuals needed a way to get money fast and stress free. Credit cards came in as a solution to that problem. On the positive side, credit cards are a way for individuals to keep their money safe; the advancement in technology helps credit cards become more and more intelligent and safe, and they prevent the individuals from losing their cash or having it stolen. But on the negative side, technology has its dangers that make the utilization of credit cards problematic, such as: careless spending, theft, and scams are some of the ways individuals lose money or land in credit card debt. Finally, the individual must decide if the use of a credit cards and its benefits is damaged by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Issue Brief On Net Neutrality Issue Brief on Net Neutrality Background Information The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is a formal policy actor (Kraft and Furlong, (2015), has faced numerous challenges in resolving the difficulties involving Net Neutrality. Jamison and Layton state that In 2005, FCC adopted an Internet Policy Statement consisting of four consumer centric guiding principles, also referred to as the Four Freedoms to ensure that broadband networks are widely deployed, open, affordable, and accessible to all consumers. When the agency attempted to apply these rules in 2008, the DC Circuit rejected the FCC s decision on jurisdictional grounds. These principles could have been successful if the FCC could have administered this policy. In 2010, the FCC s second attempt was a light handed, multistakeholder approach for addressing net neutrality issues. In 2014, the DC Court again reversed the FCC on jurisdictional grounds (Jamison Layton, 2016). Problem There are four serious problems regarding US net neutrality policy to date. One is a market muddle problem that offers the same level of internet services while disregarding the differences in competition, geography, customer type, services, etc. These actions result in hindering advancements by causing undue analysis and aggressive injunctions on positive consumer protection services. The next problem is an overkill problem because net neutrality rules force internet service providers from offering service features. Providers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is found in the blood, spleen and liver. Life cycle: NK cells develop in the bone marrow from the same progenitor cells as T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes and circulate in the blood. They have cytoplasmic granules containing cytotoxic proteins and produce interferon so that apoptosis is stimulated. They rapidly migrate to sites of inflammation and they have short lifespan. Action: NK cells kill tumor cells, microbes and virus infected cells in vitro without prior exposure. NK cells are regulated by activating and inhibitory receptors. Other role: Uterine NK cells are present in early pregnancy and have the ability to provoke cell cytotoxicity in vitro, but at a lower level than the peripheral NK cells. Vegetation Mcs In The Edwards Plateau In the Edwards Plateau the estimated annual interception loss that is, the proportion of precipitation that never reaches mineral soil for a given site dominated by stoloniferous grass was 10.8% of annual precipitation, while a bunchgrass dominated site had an annual interception loss of 18.1%. Oak trees and the litter beneath the trees intercepted about 46% of annual precipitation (Thurow et al., 1987). This indicated that shifts in the kind or amount of vegetation affect interception. Vegetation mosaics are created due to the different infiltration capacities of various vegetation types, where areas under some species receive more water from a precipitation event than others with lower infiltration capacities (Thompson et al., 2010). ... • 18. Roman Catholic Church vs Eastern Orthodox Church Essay Before the split of 1054, the Roman Catholic Church or Western church and the Eastern Orthodox Church or Byzantine church were almost one with each other. The two churches held the same ideals and got along with one another the majority of the time. They had previous splits in the past but they were never a permanent situation because they usually found a solution to their issues and differences. The split between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in 1054 seemed to have no resolution when their theological, political, and cultural differences became too much for them to harmonize upon. The theological differences were some of the biggest reason why the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches split. The Eastern churches had theological roots in Greek philosophy and the Western churches had theologies that constructed on their Roman law ( Schism of 1054 , 2014, para. 3). A strong issue that the two churches had was the theological proposition of the placement and addition of the Son to the Roman creed. The Roman churches included the Father and the Son in the Nicene creed without consulting the Eastern church while the Eastern church only used the Father. The Orthodox Church believe it should have been written with the Father proceeded by the Holy Spirit. Besides theological differences between the two churches there were also political and cultural controversies. Before the split the Western church had begun to push for the solidification of papal authority. The push for papal authority would cause the churches to become more autocratic and centralized (Dennis, The East West Schism, para. 10). This push had taken a damper on the entire church and the hostility began to grow. Problems arose in Southern Italy (then under Byzantine rule) in the 1040s, when Norman warriors conquered the region and replaced Greek [Eastern] bishops with Latin [Western] ones (Dennis, para. 5). • 19. John Winthrop s The Puritan In the Puritan religion, one cannot love anything more than one loves God. In the case of John Winthrop, this edict became an issue. He did not want to abandon the Church of England as the separatists did, a decision which eventually led to the pilgrims starting their own new church. Winthrop wanted to purify the church; however, the government in England made this particularly hard and eventually this is what led to Winthrop leaving England for the New World to solve the Puritan Dilemma. The Puritan Dilemma was a figurative battle between the Church of England and the Puritan religion. It was also a real threat with opposing religions that would come and threaten the Puritans way of life. John Winthrop recognized these problems and sought to remedy them. In the early 1600 s, John Winthrop grew up in a very wealthy family. He attended college at 15 and at 17 he was married. Winthrop loved his wife very much but at times he thought maybe too much (he remarried 3 times because his first 2 wives passed away). As a Puritan, Winthrop dedicated his life to God, but as he got older, England s government made it harder and harder to be a Puritan, due to the fact that the king said outright he hated Puritans. Winthrop went on to study law and eventually became a common attorney in the court of wards; though Winthrop was happy to get this job, it kept him away from his family. Service Breadth And Reliability Of Intermodal Service Intermodal service evolves The full range of interdependent intermodal (IMDL) transportation and distribution services have evolved in recent years and now offer the service breadth and reliability necessary to play an important part in domestic and global supply chains. Intermodal was once a slow trailers on rails alternative to inter city trucking with less than dependable transit times typically available only between limited sets of origin and destination cities. The service was not integrated with other transportation and distribution components of the supply chain. Today, intermodal offers dependable, flexible and cost effective linehaul, dray and transload options for large and small shippers moving products through logistics networks, whether across North America between major population centers, or as final miles distribution of an international supply chain. Increasingly, Intermodal is being leveraged by shippers over relatively short distances at a cost that s competitive with OTR (Over The Road) trucking service and with scheduled and reliable transit times. Intermodal s value proposition for shippers centers around the concept of using multiple, coordinated and highly managed transportation and distribution services. These services consist of off dock and terminal drayage, ocean container to domestic equipment transloading, rail linehaul and destination drayage to effect efficient, cost effective and risk managed supply chains. Look at any John Hughes movie from the 1980 s and you ll see a familiar trend. Ever since the inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept jocks was reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world. Though these heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to be exempt from the trend. The Female And Female Relationship SOSC 1920 Male and Female Relationship Essay Cheryl Chi Yue Leung 214185045 Submitted to: Karen Ruddy Submitted date: March 10th, 2016 In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between the dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and images of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney movies exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces the stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by adding multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s popular animated films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested the Disney version of The Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure a place in a patriarchal society. The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain access to the male sphere society by sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The little Mermaid as also more liberatory because it contains the means of its own undoing in the camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows the mermaid with both access and voice (2016, p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet is the way to show the conflict for women finding her place in ... The Emergency Of Climate Change And Why People Are Failing Take Home Essay #2 (Response #1) The article written by Franz and Mayer (2009) explains how an everyday situation or global issue is perceived as an emergency. In the article the authors focus on the emergency of climate change and why people are failing to take action. To help explain this, Franz and Mayer convey to us a system that includes five steps: step one, noticing the event; step two, interpreting the event as an emergency; step three, feeling personally responsible to act; step four, knowing what to do; and step five, implementing the required acts. While the main point of this article is the aforementioned system, they extend this five stage model to explore why people do and do not take action against climate change. In the first step, Franz and Mayer provide examples of a couple of things that attest to climate change. Things like rising CO2 emissions and temperature changes are only amongst a few of the things that contribute but two of the main factors. The authors mention that, People in modern industrial societies like the United States spend up to 90% of their time indoors in artificial, temperature controlled environment s (Evans McCoy, 1998). It is things like these that contribute to the inability of some to see climate change as an issue because they are so disconnected from the world around them, but as the authors conveyed the opposite, people who are intimately tied to the environment do tend to notice the environmental changes that are taking ... Osteogenesis Imperfecta, in its medical sense, meant those who possess it also possessed fragile bones that break inexplicably easily. Osteogenesis Imperfecta in its literal sense meant that I was flawed and therefore had challenges I would constantly have to overcome. • 42. The Trial of Jesus Essay In The Judaeo Christian Tradition by Jack H. Hexter, the trial of Jesus is addressed in an unorthodox perspective. The trial of Jesus incorporates two trials: the Roman trial and the Jewish trial. In Hexter s book the Roman trial is addressed in great length while the Jewish trial is almost unaddressed. Hexter provides a perspective of the trial of Jesus with only one cause: the charge of sedition, for claiming to be king of the Jews. By using the four gospel texts, Hexter s view is illuminated and we find crucial aspects to the trial that not only counter Hexter s view on the sedition charge but also provide evidence for other important charges. Themes other than the charge of sedition supporting Hexter s perspective include, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hexter blames Pilate for being the sole decision maker for the death of Jesus, but once again, the Four Gospel texts allude the Jewish community for being a major influence upon the death of Jesus. Hexter begins his thesis with one sentence stating that only Pilate gave the order of Jesus death: ...who in turn gave him to the procurator Pontius Pilate for trial. (Hexter 63) Hexter does not address the Jewish community that is in upheaval during a time of Passover or Pilates role throughout the trial. Pontius Pilate, as Roman Governor, had a position to fulfill to the Roman population along with the Jewish community. During a time of Jewish Passover, along with the chaos Jesus had created, Pilate was under great influence from many outside factors. The stir created by Jesus preaching and the size of his following perturbed both the Roman and the Jewish authorities, fearful of any wind that might fan the smoldering discontent in Palestine into a raging flame of revolt. (Hexter 62) In the Roman trial, Pilate was chosen to judge Jesus on the act of sedition, however counter to Hexter s perspective, repeatedly stated that he saw no case against him. In the Gospel of John, it is apparent that Pilate not only doesn t want to be involved but is puzzled at the situation at hand. Your own nation and the chief of priests have handed you over to me; what have you done? (John 18:33) Pilate is attempting to keep order in his city and rather not involve ... • 43. Similarities Between Hercules And The Myth Of Hercules Authors, poets, and film directors have all used ancient stories to create new pieces of literature and film works for modern times. The animated Disney film Hercules (1997) and the myth of Hercules share the background of audience driven narratives; however, Disney s aspiration to fill the theaters and earn money results in an unblemished narrative, while the original myth portrays an imperfect model to a flawed humanity. Greek mythology has been passed on and retold over generations. Literature and movies have been created to entertain as well as provide specific themes based off of myths. There are many heroes that mythology talks about and each one has lived an epic life, but there is one famous hero that has been immortalized throughout history. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a mortal named Alcmene. Zeus impregnated her while her husband was away and this is where his story began. Zeus wife, Hera, found out about the affair and was outrageous about his careless actions. She tried to prevent Hercules birth; however, when that didn t work she sent snakes to kill the baby. Hercules was too mighty for the snakes and strangled them before they could even hurt him. As stated in this source, Hera remained angry. How could she get even? Hera knew that she would lose in a fight, and that she wasn t powerful enough to prevent Zeus from having his way. Hera decided to pay Zeus back for his infidelity by making the rest of Hercules life as miserable as she could (Crane WEB). Hercules grew up to be a great young warrior and was all around. With this god like strength, also came an uncontrollable temper that made him react at times without thinking, but later made him realize the wrongdoings of his violence. He later then married a woman named Megara and had two beautiful children. But one day, Hera instilled a fit of rage into Hercules and made him slaughter his family with his very own hands. He was shocked by his actions and asked Apollo for assistance since he was drowning in guilt. Apollo later then gave him specific tasks to help Hercules redeem himself for the bloodshed he caused. The hero was sent to Eurystheus, and under his strict hand, he was to accomplish twelve labors over the next twelve years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser The American Dream has been the subject of countless American novels since it first was concepted. Though the specifics have evolved over time, and it is unique to each person, the general idea has stayed the same: become rich, retire early, own a large home and high quality items. In the book, An American Tragedy, main character Clyde Griffiths is one of many who pine for the American dream, wanting . . . the fine clothes, the handsome homes, the watches, rings, pins that someboys sported . . . (Dreiser 19) and a high class social status not to mention the benefits that coincide with being high class.. However, regardless of how much Griffiths dreamed his dream, he was never to achieve it. Throughout An American Tragedy, the sentiment that Clyde Griffiths was not meant to live the American Dream echoed numerous times in how he was raised, the era in which the novel is set, and the unique personality which clearly defined his character. A huge factor which determined the plot of the book was the method by which Griffiths was raised. In the first five chapters of An American Tragedy, Clyde s home life is portrayed. Griffiths was a young boy who was born into a low class family, and whose life centered on Evangelical teaching. Growing up, his parents constantly barraged him with their strong religious beliefs, and enforced their morals with great force and conviction. Figure 1: OSI Model As shown in the above figure 1, these seven layers can be segmented into two groups namely; Upper Layers and Lower Layers. Upper layers comprises of top three layers such as Application, Presentation, and Session whereas lower layers comprises of remaining layers such as Transport, Network, Data Link and Physical. In general, the upper layers are mostly software programs running on a computer or some hardware device which interacts with the user and are primarily concerned with implementing the application running over the network whereas the lower layers are mostly hardware at physical layer and steadily involves software as it moves closer to network layer and it mainly takes care of data formatting, data encryption and data transmission over the network. 2.1. When I moved to San Diego, I was surprised by the diversity of cultures, the abundance of activities, and how the crowds of people never stopped. It is an excellent place for people who enjoy being amongst other people; there is never a lack of entertainment day or night. Jacksonville, North Carolina on the other hand, is more for people who like a relaxed and quiet family oriented lifestyle. The city of Jacksonville, and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base are home to 170,000 Marines, Sailors, retirees, and civilians. There are plenty of things to do in Jacksonville, the only problem is you have to look for them.
