keen understanding of the multifaceted nature of the writing process and the ability to provide

There s little Tom Dacre, who cried when his head

Hush, Tom! never mind it, for when your head s bare,
You know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair.
And so he was quiet, that very night,
As Tom was a sleeping he had such a sight!

For example, its advantage may be the test could be arranged by the professor or

then it will get difficult by the time the test go to the last question as it will save time
and the student won t get anxious or stressed. Another one that computerbased testing

Psychology, Mathematics, and Ergonomics were one of the areas where the
comparability of paper based testing and computer based testing was made but few
studies looked into this issue in the field of language assessment. Some studies have
revealed that there is a significant difference between the two testing modes
(Pomplun, 2002; Choi, et al., 2003) while others have concluded the opposite (Boo,

resulted in these scores, but not on both aspects. It has been found that computer
experience was a major factor in explaining the difference between students
performance on computer based arithmetic reasoning tests (Lee, 1986). However,
Boo (1997) found that there was no significant relationship between computer

Through what means did he achieve this purpose?
I will be using rhetorical analysis to determine how he has built his speech and get

5. Why Are Pit Bulls Banned
Pit Bulls are one of the most misunderstood dogs in society. People are afraid of
them because of the stories they have heard or seen and they tend to flinch when
they hear the words pit bull . Pit Bulls are discriminated against because of what
they are and how people portray them to be. Because of this, Pit Bulls are paying the
price for something they have no fault in. Pit Bullis not actually a breed. The legal
definition of a pit bull is a class of dogs that includes the following breeds: American
pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American
bulldog and any other pure bred or mixed breed dog that is a combination of these
dogs (DogsBite, Pit bull FAQ). Even though these breeds may be classified... Show

They were bred for entertainment through fighting, but also for companionship as
family pets. Their history has brought turmoil and hate against them. Society has
not helped with this either. They take what everyone else says about Pit Bulls and
adds it to what they hear in the media. Their result is them being fearful of Pit
Bulls and not wanting to have anything to do with them. They take these stories
from the media about a Pit Bull attack and assume all Pit Bulls are vicious and will
attack people. This is how the stereotypes come about. However, some people work
to change the perception of Pit Bulls, like the owners of Johnny and Leo. They go
and reach out to people, from elders to children, who get to know the dog as an
individual and not as society has perceived them to be. Each dog, no matter a Pit
Bull or not, is his own. Each one has his own personality, likes and dislikes, and
temperament. Each dog is different and has his own individuality. Society should
look upon dogs, especially Pit Bulls, as an individual and not as a whole. Looking at
breeds as a whole is where discrimination and stereotypes come into play and can ruin

food. You go to your wallet and there is no money to feed your family. More than
45 million people in the United States live in poverty as of now. That is 14.5 percent
of Americans in the United States. That is an extremely high number. It is vital that
we take control of this povertyissue at hand before it is too late. The definition of
poverty is the state of being extremely poor. Poverty is the lack of money or
material things. It is all over the world and is increasing at an alarming rate. Over

Poor Person that is all that I am or ever will be. It is not worth it to me to live a
bleak life devoid of small pleasures so that one day I can make a single large
purchase. I will never have large pleasures to hold on to. There s a certain pull to
live what bits of life you can while there s money in your pocket, because no matter
how responsible you are you will be broke in three days anyway. When you never
have enough money it ceases to have meaning. I imagine having a lot of it is the
same thing. Poverty is bleak and cuts off your long term brain. It s why you see
people with four different baby daddies instead of one. You grab a bit of
connection wherever you can to survive. You have no idea how strong the pull to
feel worthwhile is. It s more basic than food. You go to these people who make you
feel lovely for an hour that one time, and that s all you get. You re probably not

adapting tasks to avoid triggering the dystonic movements. This might include

There is large number of oral drugs that have been considered helpful for people with
writer s cramp, but none of them seems to be equally effective. Around 5% of people

9. Catalase Concentration On Hydrogen Peroxide
Effect of the concentration of hydrogen peroxide on volume of oxygen gas
production, when reacted with catalase.
Abstract
The aim of this laboratory experiment was to investigate the effect of hydrogen
peroxide concentration on the rate at which oxygen is produced when the volume and
temperature of 50% catalase and volume of hydrogen peroxide solution are kept
constant. It was expected that if the concentration of hydrogen peroxide increased,
then the production rate of oxygen gas would also increase until the enzyme became
saturated, following the Michaelis Menten relationship. For this to apply, the volume
and temperature of 50% catalase and volume of hydrogen peroxide solution were kept
constant. Six different concentrations were used ... Show more content on

However the graph of the rate of O2 production for this experiment does not follow
the Michaelis Mentan relationship (Figure 9). Reasons for this could have been
the inability to record gas production in time intervals shorter than 10 seconds
because the reaction occurred so rapidly. The first measurement of O2 produced
was recorded at 10 seconds, however by this time the reaction had already
completed (Figure 10), meaning the exact finishing point (between 1 10 seconds) of
the reaction was unknown. This then disturbs the calculation of the rate of O2
production. Some errors that may have occurred include leakage of O2 from the
flask, or small amounts of O2 could have dissolved in water, disrupting the volume
of gas produced, and therefore the calculation of the rate of

As the United States evolved, they were trying to establish an identity of their own,
but at the same time, the armed forces were also trying to establish identity. Along
with the adoption of the Stars and Stripes, there came a need for developing a way
that we could identify the different militarybranches. As a result, we started using
military flags for our different service branches, we saw the adoption of individual
military flags.
The US Army
Before 1956, the US Army was the only Armed Services branch that did not have a
flag for representing them. Because of the need, there were several designs of
military flags that were proposed and developed. However, Wilber Brucker, the

There were many factors that caused such an attack. England was a Protestant
country, and Spain was devoutly Catholic. The Spanish thought Queen Elizabeth
and her Protestant beliefs had to be stopped at all costs. In 1587, Elizabeth had
Mary, Queen of Scots, executed. Mary and Philip II were both allies and fellow
Catholics, and she had offered the throne of Englandto him if she were to ever obtain
it. After her execution, Philip felt it was his religious duty to make sure no more
Catholics were persecuted in England. Not only was England Protestant, but they
were also assisting Protestant rebels in the Spanish Netherlands, which consisted of

These natural circumstances prevented the English ships from being able to leave
the harbor. There was almost nothing the English could do but wait for the tide to

the news that the Spanish Armada was approaching. Their inability to leave the port
set them at a disadvantage; however, the Spanish did not take the opportunity to
attack them while they were practically defenseless. Instead, they kept on sailing
towards Flanders. This lack of aggression on the Spanish part is due to the fact that
the Armada did not have many offensive military strategies. If the Spanish were
more prepared to fight a sea battle, they most likely could have sailed into Plymouth
Harbor and attacked without much opposition. Nevertheless, that was not the case,
so the Armada kept sailing and was forced to miss what could have been an

12. The Immigration Laws Should Be Repealed
Paolo S. Mutia
J. Richardson
AP Government 2nd Period
11 March 2015
Currently, one of most debated policy issues in America is immigration. Starting with
the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, the American government created several
immigration laws that sought to put an end to illegal immigration by mandating
workplace regulations, employer sanctions, internal enforcement mechanisms, and
border security (Nowrasteh 2). According to immigration policy analyst Alexander
Nowrasteh at the Center of Global Liberty and Prosperity of the Cato Institute, by the
1990s, legal immigration was essentially impossible to the United States unless the
immigrant was highly skilled, had a close American citizen or legal permanent
resident relative or friend who could sponsor him or her, or was a refugee. The
Arizona immigration laws should be repealed due to damage done to the state s
economy, the benefits of immigrants to the American economic structure, and the
societal harm imposed upon citizens.
Illegal immigration is an unintend¬ed result of federal immigration restric¬tions
from the shortage of green cards (permanent residence) and temporary work visas
available for migrants (Nowrasteh 2). Currently, 73% of the 11.5 million illegal
immigrants nationally are located in ten states, including Arizona (Nowrasteh 2).
Between 2000 and 2008, Arizona experienced a large increase of illegal immigrants
from 330,000 to 560,000 (Nowrasteh 2). The costs of the housing bust and the Great

The popular image of the 1920s is of an alcohol soaked, jazz enriched, and
senseless society that was full of crime. Morally minded citizens tried to solve the
growing problem of drunkenness by pushing their efforts to end this behavior. This
crusade gained steam in 1920 when the US outlawed the manufacture and sale of
liquor which was amended into the Constitution. What was supposed to end this wild
behavior of mindless drinking and crime spawned new economic problems and gang
wars in major cities around America. What was known as the prohibition era
entrenched a network of organized crime with some of the most notorious minds and
of these included the most well known, Al Capone. Capone began to take over the

income for Capone during the years of prohibition. Politicians, law enforcement
and regular citizens would visit these establishments to grab a drink then the next
day fight for enforcement of prohibition. The corrupt enforcement of these laws

accomplices. Capone was already rising in power in the 1920s but the 18th

law enforcement would crackdown on his illegal business, he made sure local,
state and federal officials were on his payroll to look the other way. He virtually

him and his breweries legal immunity. By bribing the crooked law enforcement in
his area, he could plan raids to destroy other rival gang s illegal establishments.
Federal agents who did not take bribes and continued to enforce the law were

Nanny working for Victor s family and then ending right down towards the lower
class, the poverty of the working people in the town. Throughout the story Victor
and the Monster are both shown to be outsiders. Victor began to get ideas in his

the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab, which is ironic as Victor tries to

the British Empire in the west to India in the east, making it significant trade route
for Britain to control. During the Cold War, Egypt became an area of great tension,
challenging British control over the canal. There was an increase of nationalism,
along with the rise of Gamal Abdel Nasserto power. His rise to power lead to the Suez
CanalCrisis and Egypts independence from Britain in 1956. The Arab Spring began
in Tunisia in December, 2010, eventually spreading to Egypt in 2011. British control
over parts of Africa during the nineteenth century lead to many crises in the 20th and
21st centuries, including the Suez Canal Crisis and the Arab Spring in Egypt. The
Cold War began soon after the Second World War ended, starting in 1947 and ending
in 1991. The United States and the Soviet Union competed for nuclear superiority,
beginning a nuclear arms race. Most other countries were in debt because of the war,
so the US and the USSR became superpowers that other countries became allies with

or NATO, and consisted of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and the United Kingdom (Kte pi,
par. 9). Albania, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet
21. Editha Character Analysis
Sometimes the consequences of war are overlooked because of the circumstances.
In this story, William Dean Howells uses his characters to convey his own views on
war. One can easily tell that he was in no way a supporter. He does an outstanding
job demonstrating the many reasons war is harmful. Through the main character of
his story Editha , William Dean Howellsreveals that waris not glorious, but is instead
destructive.
Editha s character conveys the ignorance of the common people by highlighting the
impractical ideas she has about the war. Her beliefs gave a false hope and an
unrealistic expectation as to what the ramifications of war actually are. From
evidence in the story, one would infer that the story was set during the Spanish
American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does war impact American families, but also America s enemies families.
War is heartbreaking, so it is unsettling that Editha chose to ignore the
consequences of war just because George is fighting under the American flag.
When the two were discussing the war, Editha states that there are no two sides
anymore and there is nothing now but our country (Howells). As long as America
is first, she has no regards for anyone else in the world. She is justifying the murder
of people in the name of American patriotism. This almost makes the lives taken
during war seem less valuable, which is unacceptable. Through a letter that Editha
wrote to George, she affirms her unawareness regarding war. In the letter, she
states that if George does not enlist, she will break off the engagement because the
man she would marry must be devoted to his country first (Free). Editha lives in
Northern New York, where it is difficult to see the repercussions of war. Because of
this, Editha does not seem to care that war affects every country involved, not just
America. At the end of the story when Editha visits the Gearson family, Mrs.
Gearson remarks you thought it would be all right for my George, your George, to
kill the sons of those miserable mothers and the husbands of those girls that you
would never see the faces of (Howells). Her sarcasm emphasizes her strong
22. Standard Grading Standards Based Grading System
Standards
Many teachers fear the unknown and when a teacher s routine gets changed there is
discomfort. However, in many elementary schools, standards based grading is not a
new concept. In fact, most teachers have been using some form of standards based
grading. According to Tomlinson and McTighe, Standards based grading involves
measuring students proficiency on well defined course objectives (Tomlinson
McTighe, 2006).
The visual below compares traditional grading with standards based grading
practices. There are a few similarities; however, when comparing the two it becomes
apparent that many current practices are tied to standards based grading.
Traditional Grading SystemStandards Based Grading System

entry is given per assessment.1. Based on learning goals and performance standards.
One grade/entry is given per learning goal.
2. Assessments are based on a percentage system. Criteria for success may be
unclear.2. Standards bare criterion or proficiency based. Criteria and targets are made
available to students ahead of time.
3. Use an uncertain mix of assessment, achievement, effort, and behavior to determine
the final grade. May use late penalties and extra credit.3. Measures achievement only
OR separates achievement from effort/behavior. No penalties or extra credit given.

23. Paul Farmer s Definition Of Structural Violence
Paul Farmer s definition of structural violence and the way it coincides with history,
biology, and storytelling adds to my deeper understanding of how violence is
widespread and related to temporality. According to Farmer, structural violence is
institutionalized aggression in a society or culture does not allow certain individuals
to meet their full potential. Structural violencealso puts these individuals at a
disadvantage.
The occurrence of erasing history is how temporality connects to structural violence.
Structural violence draws on the dismissal of history, which constitutes violence even
more, erasing history is perhaps the most common explanatory sleight of hand relied
upon by the architects of structural violence (Farmer, p. 308).
24. Similarities Between Animals And Animals
Modern humans are very advanced these days. We have a lot of technology and
luxuries that we didn t have a long time ago. When looking at the past, people see
that humans may have resembled apelike creatures, and wonder if humans acted
like animals during that time. A lot of this information is unknown because that was
such a long time ago. Yet, if we were like animals back then, are we still like them
now? Most people might think animals are very different from us just because our
species seems to more evolved. But have you ever stopped and asked yourself: are
humans and animals actually that different, or do we just think that? Yann Martel
actually talks about this in his recent novel, The Life of Pi. The truth is that humans
and animals are actually very alike, even more than people, like the ones in Pi s
novel, think.
This idea of humans being similar to animals is introduced in Yann Martel s novel:
The Life of Pi. In Martel s book, the main character named Pi, tells a story of
surviving on a lifeboat for 227 days along with many other animals after he
survived a shipwreck. Pi also tells a similar story, but instead of animals, Pi is stuck
on the lifeboat with humans. In the story with animals, Pi is trapped on a lifeboat
after the Tsimtsum sank. There was an orangutan, a zebra, a hyena, and a tiger named
Richard Parker, all on the lifeboat with him. The hyena ends up murdering the
orangutan and the zebra, and Richard Parker, being the alpha of all the animals, kills
25. Unreliable Narrator In The Tell Tale Heart
John Green once said, It s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you
see, a fitting quote to define the works of American author, Edgar Allen Poe,
known for his short stories written in the 1800 s. Famous works include The Black
Cat , The Tell Tale Heart , and Berenice before his untimely death in 1849. Often
ridiculed for his absurd stories, Poe was fueled by his many losses in his childhood,
including his mother and wife, and alcoholism. Many of his stories are that of the
horror genre and often uses an unreliable character. Just as some of his most famous
characters, Poe was seen as a mentally unstable man who was burdened by the
hardships of his life. Through unreliable narratives, Poe emphasizes fear in the thin
line... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berenice follows Egaeus who is a man about to marry his cousin, Berenice. Egaeus
often finds himself lost in thought and succumbed to a trance like state where he
looks over many qualities of Berenice. As she is deteriorating from a disease which
is unknown to the reader, we see her teeth as the only part of her to remain intact.
Egaeus, in a fit of unconsciousness, pulls her teeth from her mouth and finds them in
a box next to him when he comes to reality again. Although there is no time shown
where he committed the horrendous act, the narrator awakes from his haze by the
sounds of a woman s shriek. The teeth were hers, and the narrator was petrified by
his actions he had no memory of doing. Poe uses the narrators gaps in memory to
emphasize the lack of control he has, and in doing so, proves further that he is an
unreliable narrator. Teeth has the symbolic meaning of health and beauty; the
narrator saw the love of his life slowly begin to die and decided to keep what he most
admired as a symbol of his love, something that would never die. Evil is a
consequence of good and the loved shared between Egaeus and Berenice was the
literary example of love which was doomed from the
26. Chinese Family s Role In Canadian History
Since Canada became a founded country, Chinese Canadians have played a major
role in the developing history in the roots of Canadian history. Chinese Canadians
hold many cultural values, many which revolve around the family structure and
being part of a communal group. Chinese Canadians tend to demonstrate their desire
for family structure by ensuring everyone in the family is striving. If a family
member is struggling to make ends meet, other family members will allow the others
to live with them, as family is a major part of the culture. Chinese Canadians are
more likely to be married at 56% of the population, compared to the rest of
Canadians at 50%. The Chinese are also much less likely to live alone within Canada,
at 5% compared to the 13% of other Canadians who live alone.... Show more content

services, business and finance, and applied sciences. In recent times, illegal Chinese
immigrants have becoming more prevalent in agricultural food operations. In 2010,
the average income for Canadians of Chinese origin was $48,907, compared to almost
$49,351, aged 15 years and older, for all Canadian adults. The most predominant
religions for Chinese Canadians consist of Buddhism, Taoism and Christianity,
although, over half the Chinese Canadian population declare that they have no
religious affiliation. T he dominant languages within the Chinese population include
Mandarin and Cantonese. Additionally, the majority of Chinese immigrants also

27. The Importance of Extracurricular Activities
The struggle is real. Maintaining the three most important aspects of teenage life
grades, sleep, and social life is hard enough, but when you throw in the stress of
having to add more onto your plate for a better future, it can be almost suffocating.
It is possible to only have to worry about making the top grades to be automatically
admitted into a college and then you re free from having to add more to your plate,
but does that have lasting benefits like branching out into extracurriculars does?
Being smart can only take a person so far in life. Learning skills like time
management, organization, and leadership are vital to a person s success in the
future; all of which can be learned through the experiences that extracurriculars
provide. Therefore, being involved in extracurricular activities can prove to have
stronger and a broader spectrum of benefits than solely focusing on grades.
Extracurriculars teach students lessons that will last them a lifetime, not a semester.
Students who have active lives learn very quickly how to manage their time (Kelley).
This is true because students learn organizational skills from having to wisely budget
their time (Kelley). The student that sits at home every night simply studying and
doing their work to make the best grades, learn only the words written on the paper.
As for the student that spends every day at after school practices, meetings, and going
to events on the weekends, they learn from the experiences they have.

Love on the B Line Playwriting is made up of three simple ingredients that make up
a delicious recipe for entertainment. The structure/plot of a play, the characters, and
the dialogue from these characters are all essential parts of a play that make it
possible to perform. A play must have each of these ingredients in order to be a
successful treat to its audience. Love on the B Line by Adam Kraar excels at using
the main ingredients in order to make the delicious (literature) piece. The plot of
Kraar s play demonstrates an odd couple reminiscing about their relationship while at
their favorite stop along a train route. Kraar s imagination to create such quirky

Through dialogue, you can learn more about a character through what they say. The
dialogue from Love on the B Line is quite believable because it is similar to
conversations heard from other couples in other writings. Robbie questions, It s 2

conversation with each other heighten their conflict by reintroducing the issue
numerous times within multiple instances. All Robbie wants is for Marie to stay the
night but Marie refuses because her cat has yet to be fed. Marie often introduces and
reintroduces backstory with the dialogue of her character. She tends to repeat events
that had already passed to distract Robbie from thinking about the present. Marie and
Robbie share a common bond within their dialogue that keeps the audience on edge
for what s next. Within the dialogue of the play, the actions of each character steadily
move, creating more entertainment for the audience. From both Robbie and Marie,
the verisimilitude of the play is high because of the realistic actions and thoughts that
come within both
29. Analysis Of Out Of The Attic By Briann G. Greenfield
Likewise, many historians consider the importance of studying the Colonial Revival
from a material culture lens. Alan Axelrod articulates, Objects play a central role in
the processes of the Colonial Revival. Similarly, Briann G. Greenfield s Out of the
Attic: Inventing Antiques in Twentieth Century New England, suggests an extension
of this idea of the centrality of objects. It is, in effect, a celebration of material culture
as it relates to a larger historical context. Greenfield effectively describes the
evolution of historical and aesthetic use of antiques from the 1900 s onward. Acts of
collecting, selling, and displaying the antiques are points of interest in her collection
of essays. She notes t antiques as a means to define... Show more content on

Chapter three presents Jessie Barker Gardner and George Gardner as twentieth
century antique collectors based in Providence New England. The couple were small
time, middle class antique collectors. They were interested in the philanthropic area
of collecting. The Gardner s sought to make a connection between the collegiate
space and the museum. Eventually, the Gardner s donated many of their most prized
collectables to Brown University. They implemented very crafty and effective sales
techniques. Their goal was to subvert the market and capture the antiques at bargain
prices. Though Jessie and George Gardner relished the pursuit of collecting and
philanthropy, it was almost always about the profitability. This discussion offers a
connection to Thomas Denenberg s use of Wallace Nutting. Like Nutting, the
Gardner s excelled in a plethora of marketing techniques and entrepreneurship. She
further links the importance of consumer culture that Denenberg alludes too. Chapter
four is devoted Henry Flynt and his efforts in historic preservation and antiques in
Deerfield, Massachusetts. He, too, believed that historic objects reflected American
patriotism. He criticized Williamsburg and Deerfield as being restored or preserved
villages.
Conversely, under his direction, Deerfield, Massachusetts became a natural
preservation. This chapter further mentions companies

Forensic Osteology of Child Abuse By: Heather Hogue ANTH328 101 11/26/2016
In my paper, I will explain forensic osteology and how it helps determine child
abuse. I will also explain different cultures and situations where child abuse cases
take place. I will describe where child abuse has taken place even in ancient times.
Lastly, I will explain the challenges of forensic osteology in determining child abuse,
what could be mistaken for it, and how it s properly analyzed. My first article is
about forensic radiology and how it determines unexplained head injuries in child
mummies. Janet Davey and Olaf H. Drummer explained that the identification of
cause of death in ancient Egyptian child mummies have changed since advanced
visual workstations have produced more detailed virtual data that allowed more
accurate reporting on injuries and cause of death. They elaborated on the fact that
virtual images from computerized tomography (CT) data have revolutionized the
study of ancient mummified remains. It has also removed the need for destructive
procedures linked to unwrapping of bodies and has been used in a number of forensic
pathology institutions. Forensic radiology protocols were used in the study of two
small child mummies from the human remains collection in a British museum. They
have been mummified and wrapped two thousand years ago. They explained that the
bodies presented unique problems in interpreting the radiological data due to external

Living in a society full of injustice and racism, some wouldn t believe how greatly it
affect s someone s life. In Gaines novel, the setting Louisiana reflects both characters
and their experiences, enhancing the themes injustice and racism. Gaines shows the
white and African Americans living very diverse lives. He shows this through
segregation, lack of equality, ethnic background, the hope for African American
culture and cruel acts of injustice. In the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, Gaines
demonstrates the significant importance of the Louisiana setting to the central theme
of injustice and racism.
Firstly, Gaines novel demonstrates segregation and lack of equality, as an example of
racism founded in Louisiana in the 1940 s. In the small ... Show more content on

human dignity. Why, I would just as soon put a hog in the electric chair as this.
(Gaines, 8) the animalistic classification reflects the attitude held by the white

white children in schools are injustice. Black children received tattered books and
lack of firewood to keep warm in the winter as to the white children. Black children

injustice through giving the black children a lower quality of education. Therefore, in
the state of Louisiana cruel acts of injustice are clearly revealed in the

Indoor air is a critical factor to human health. More than half of the air inhaled is at
the homes. Indoor air quality plays a huge role in one s health. Poor ventilation is
one of the main causes of deaths in developing countries. In developed countries,
IAQ (Indoor Air quality) is a main cause of allergies, other hypersensitivity reactions,
air way infections and cancer.
The relation between IAQ and health is not given high importance. Studies shows
that ventilation rates below 25 l/s per person increases short term sick leave and
reduces productivity. More efforts are being put into building physics, HVAC
engineering and architecture for better IAQ standards. Dampness, Ventilation,
Building materials and indoor air chemistry are one of the primary factors affecting

33. Cyclin D1 Case Study
4.5 FUTURE DIRECTIONS: CYCLIN D1 AS A THERAPEUTIC TARGET
If the hypothesis that CCND1 is a potent oncogene in glioblastoma becomes
validated, the next step would be to exploit this oncogene as a therapeutic target.
Despite outstanding developments in cancer research and current advances in
multimodality therapies, no significant progression has been made in the treatment of
glioblastoma over the past decade and the disease remains fatal.
The role of CCND1 in cancer has been widely validated, but it remains a challenge to
target it directly because it is an intracellular protein and lacks intrinsic enzymatic
activity (Deshpande et al., 2005).
The current therapeutic strategies aim to knockdown Cyclin D1 through the

The first generation of CDK inhibitors did not show any evidence of efficacy in
clinical trials, but researchers suggest that improved pharmacokinetic and dosing
might lead to better results. In addition to that, is crucial to notice that these trials
were conducted on unselected patient populations (Musgrove et al., 2011). More
selective CDK4/6 inhibitors, such as Palbociclib for advanced stage oestrogen
receptor (ER)+ breast cancer, are now undergoing the final stages of clinical trials
and improvements in progression free survival have been consistently reported
(Musgrove et al., 2011; O Leary et al., 2016).
Another frontier could be combining drugs that simultaneously target multiple end
points of cyclin D1 action, such as angiogenesis (via VEGFR inhibitors) and
proliferation (via CDK inhibitors), so that these drugs enhance the therapeutic effects
of each other respectively (Musgrove et al., 2011; Dragnev et al., 2005).
The prerequisite for the success of these novel approaches is a better selection of
patient subgroups, for whom a targeted and personalized therapy can be designed
according to their genomic profile. Indeed, in glioblastomas, response to CDK4
/CDK6 inhibition is normally observed in
34. Genetic Causes
Genetic Causes
A person s genetic structure, passed on from their parents, is responsible for both
their physical and behavioral characteristics. People who have inherited genes
responsible for alcoholism from their parents will automatically be prone to addiction.
There is not one single gene that passes alcoholism down through one s children.
Identifying each specific gene involved in alcoholism is almost impossible, instead,
studies have shown that certain gene combinations have a strong relationship with
alcoholic disorders. However, some studies have shown that certain combinations of
different genes can create a relationship with alcohol addiction.
Alcoholism is a medical diagnosis. As such it does not apply merely to heavy
drinking, or merely to getting into trouble because of drinking, or getting drunk a
specified number of times. The diagnosis of alcoholism applies only to those who
manifest the symptoms of addiction. (Keller 1982). Some behavioral genes can also
be passed down from one s parents. Those genes could influence a propensity for
alcoholism in an individual. Mental and behavioral illnesses include some like
depression and schizophrenia. The latter illness is more common in people that have
a familial history that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The person may feel they deserve to drink or need to drink. This can therefore lead

The two short stories in different visions tell the short stories about how colonialism

colonialism worked during that period. Colonialism means that the policy and

Danielle Patton

History 1500 to Present
December 4th, 2014
When you look back through time at the history of decolonization, there are many
names that come to mind, but two that should be focused on are Frantz Fanon and
Mahatma Gandhi. Both of these men were strong advocates for anti colonialism and
nationalism. Their attitudes can be described by this quote from Frantz Fanon who
said, what matters is not to know the world but to change it. They may have been
active during different times in history, but they both took action to see that the
countries they represented were run in an anti colonialistic and nationalistic way. A
few questions that may arise though is why did both of these men feel so strongly,
what actions did they take to make sure that their countries were run the right way,
and what impact did they have on decolonization? To fully understand these men and
their actions, understanding what they believed is key. The term nationalism
describes both the attitude of someone that takes pride in their nation and its identity,
and the actions that are taken to ensure their country s autonomy (Miscevic). Most
people that have a nationalistic belief feel as though their country should be self
sufficient and maximize their resources. The term anti colonialism is used to describe
an opposition to the term colonialism, but you may wonder what does colonialism
mean? Colonialism is a term that describes the practice of domination (Kohn). This
40. Zoot Suit Analysis
Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez explains the racially charged trial of Sleepy Lagoon in
1942 in which the court of California charges a group of Chicanos with the murder
of another Mexican American man. For Chicanos, 1940 was an era of discrimination
so the trials were unfairly biased against them. To fight against this discrimination,
many Chicanos wore an exaggerated suit, referred to as a zoot suit, that included a
long, loose jacket with padded shoulders and high waisted trousers. This choice of
wardrobe earned the Chicanos a name of zoot suiters . Ethnic identity is an important
role in this play because the men on trial were accused of murder for their cultural
background, choice of clothing and biased media influence rather than evidence.
Ethnic identity is the way in which one regards himself and also how he is
perceived by others. Judgments of another person begins at the first glance.
Hairstyle, clothing, shoes and cleanliness are all tied together in the representation of
oneself. The Zoot Suit was a choice of fashion by the Chicanos because it
represented rebellion against both American and Mexican cultures. These suits were
prohibited during the duration of World War II as they used too much cloth, making
it an easy and fashionable way to show their rebellion. While on trial, the Chicanos
were denied access to clean clothes and haircuts, which negatively altered the way the
judge and jury saw the men. The judge states, The zoot haircuts will be retained

42. Asset Management
CHAPTER ONE THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
1.0 INTRODUCTION Asset management is a concept that companies use to
ascertain the value of their assets. It provides a quick measure of the worthiness of
the organization and so becomes easier for organizations to prepare their final
accounts as they are able to quickly estimate the value of their assets. Well managed
organizations are required to perform regular fixed asset audits. Tracking and
managing corporate assets and equipment is a challenge to most organizations
especially when there is a large volume of assets or when those assets move
frequently between departments or multiple branches. However in today‟s
regulatory environment, it has become more important than ever for companies to ...

d. Did the users have enough skills to operate the system? e. Where and how would
the asset register be kept and updated? 1.6 JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY. The
proposed study was recommended as it was of paramount importance to
organizations which had accepted and undertook the information technology era into
their businesses to have good and reliable ITAMS. The previous excel spreadsheets
which were used in recording assets were highly prone to errors and presented a lot
of paperwork, which required large storage space, and thus inappropriate and
inefficient for the organization to achieve optimum performance.
The researcher focused on managing IT assets only because past and existing manual
systems had too many loopholes which resulted in the organization losing valuable
IT assets due to theft and or abuse by employees. Unlike other tangible assets of the
organization IT assets have a shorter life span and often switch many hands within a
short period of time hence difficult in most cases to trace their whereabouts.
The proposed study would facilitate quick decision making and also reduce the
amount of time taken in locating computer hardware and software. Under the manual
system it took a lot of time in trying to locate and monitor IT assets in the
organization. The study was also meant to reduce operation costs in the IT
department as the organization would now
43. Effects Of Data Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks
Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks Introduction
Wireless sensor networks are usually deployed in infrastructure less environment with
the sensor nodes themselves being battery powered (low powered) devices so, data
aggregation is an attractive method to reduce the power requirements of the
individual sensor nodes that sense, record and transmit the data about their
surroundings. Data aggregation may refer to any number of methods that allow for
the reduction of the volume of data that the sensor nodes must exchange by
combining data from multiple sources and removing redundancies, thereby reducing
the power consumption by the sensor nodes.
The main goal of data aggregation algorithms is to gather and aggregate data in an

Some node like cluster head aggregate the data prompting in network aggregation.
Aggregation structures can be hierarchy based or backbone based or even
structureless. Structure less protocols try to eliminate the energy consumption of
maintaining structures and are preferred for small networks. For larger ad hoc
wireless sensor networks hierarchy based networks like tree based, cluster based
aggregation is preferred.
The Tiny AGgregation(TAG), Energy Aware Data Aggregation (EADA) are
examples of protocols based on Tree structure. Low Energy Adaptive Clustering
Hierarchy (LEACH) is a well known cluster based protocol. Both tree based and
cluster based rely on passing and aggregating data at a higher level node (cluster
head/ root of branch) thereby exploiting the topology of the network. Theses
protocols aggregate data from multiple sources at a node a layer higher in topology
to the source node. Usually statistical sampling is done to remove the redundancies
and improve the accuracy of generated data (that is sent) to the raw data.
Aggregation structures introduce latency to the network but reduce the amount and
number of transmissions thereby saving the network capacity.
Aggregation Functions: Protocols based purely on how to aggregate data exists.
These protocols rely on forecasting and/or compression of data to reduce the
transmissions and hence improve the energy efficiency. However, the tradeoff here is
that the

What was tribute?
The administrative costs of the empire were met by tribute. Most tribute sent to
the treasuries of Persia was in the form of manufactured goods and metals,
especially silver and gold dust. It could also be given in the form of produce, where
the amount for each satrapy was worked out on the basis of the cultivated land and
its crop capacity each year. Tribute was collected by satraps and provided as gifts to
the great king.
Who or what was Pasargadae?
Pasargadae is the building site of Cyrus the Great where he created an expansive
garden complex. It suggests that an emerging significant feature of successful
kingship was the ability to harness the resources of the empire for impressive building
achievements. The two main building structures at this site are the Palace and the

Milton Friedman is known as one of the top economists in the world. He has a Ph.
D. from Columbia University, won a Noble Memorial Prize in economics and has
also been awarded many honorary degrees by other Universities in the
United States. As you can tell, Milton Friedman has played a significant part in
helping to solve the economy problems of the world. You ve probably heardall about
his accomplishments and awards he has received, but what about how Milton
Friedman played a very important role in helping us get into a huge national debt?
This paper will discuss how Milton Friedman played a negative role in our economy.

In seven short years, under the Keynesian policy, the U.S. went from the greatest
depression it has ever known to the greatest economic boom it has ever known.
The success of Keynesian economics was so astounding that almost all capitalist
governments around the world started using it. And the result was the extinction
of the economic depression! Before World War II, eight U.S. recessions worsened
into depressions (1807, 1837, 1873, 1882, 1893, 1920, 1933, and 1937). Since World
War II, under Keynesian policies, there have been nine recessions (1945 46, 1949,
1954, 1956, 1960 61, 1970, 1973 75, 1980 83, 1990 92
), but not one has turned into a depression. The success of Keynesian economics was
such that even Richard Nixon once said, quot;We are all Keynesians now(Keynes,
289). quot;
Well, that was the theory the governments were using at the time to control the
economy. Obviously there were some people who objected against use of this theory.
One of them was Milton Friedman.
He believed that the only function the government should be allowed is to control the
circulation of cash. Although he accepted Keynes definition of recessions, he rejected
the cure. He believed that the government should butt out of the business of
expanding or contracting the money supply. It should keep the money supply steady,
expanding it slightly each year only to allow for the growth of the economy and a

Ever since 1776, when the United States first gained independence, there has been
constant debate over how much power states should have compared to the the federal
government. Some argue that the central government should have more power,
claiming when laws are uniform to every state, they will be more effective. Others,
however, argue that if the states have more power that the federal government, then
they can enact laws that will address the unique needs of constituents of that
particular state.
Technically, the National Minimum Drinking Age Actdidn t force the states to
conform to a federal uniform minimum drinking age. Instead of overstepping the

During, communication class I got the chance to discover different concept, tactics,
strategies, and techniques and how I can improve the way a communication with
others and be able to listen, focus, paraphrase, also able to express myself without
offending others or causing tense or insecure conversations. Then, I also discovered
how I can making eye contact, assertiveness, self disclosure also able to understand
body language, which it can assist me to observe the reaction of the others that would
help me to avoid any confrontations during dialogue. Many of these concepts that
were providing to me offer a betterway and how I can change any of bad habits I was
having every time I was having a conversationsince I wasn t aware before I took this
course.
Another, concepts I discovered also it was the twelve listening blocks also hidden
agendas, parataxic distortions, and schemas and I can keep point many others that I
didn t know I was using it without even know it until now that I have the knowledge
and ability to understand which were my mistakes every time I was having a
conversation. I planning to apply each of those concepts in my daily life since I
noticed for the last week eight how my communication with others has improved not
only at home with my family, with friends also at work with my coworkers.
According, the author of the book Crucial Conversations states, What you learn
Crucial Conversations transform people and relationships. They are anything by
transacted; they create an entirely new level of bonding. The produce what
Buddhism calls the middle way not a compromise between two opposites on a
straight line continuum, but a higher middle way, like the apex of a triangle (pg. X).
As the author explained here how conversations can change your life and renovate
relationships when we are able to transmit how we feel without causing a negative
energy between us instead we need to create a better scenario during dialogue with
whoever we have around us.
What have you learned about your style of communication and assertiveness and how
would you like to see yourself grow in this area? I have learned the importance to pay
attention and concentrate completely on the other person who is talking

they also think that the item would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element

after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of Titanium). The element,
Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. The metallic element is found in

The factors also make it a great candidate for surgical instruments. Since the
element is resistant to corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is
often found being used in the industrial world. One of the most common places that
Titanium is found is in desalination plants, which convert sea water into drinking
water. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat exchangers were made of
a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to corrosion. A
very strong alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum,
vanadium, and molybdenum. This alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines,
missiles, spacecraft, military equipment, and even automobiles. The alloy is also
used in many things that we are known to love. Americans usually carry items with
them everyday that are made up of this alloy. For example, right now in my car I
have many items that are made up of the alloy such as: jewelry, a cell phone, and a
football helmet grill (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a very low
toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in powder form it is becomes a fire hazard
(Titanium). The other time that Titanium is a hazard is when it is heated in the air.
The element then becomes an explosive hazard. When Titanium does catch on fire, a
normal fire extinguisher will not put out the

If you actually write down what you are eating on a daily basis, you probably will
drop your jaw in horror. We never think to add up the little snack size candy bar
here and the 2 cookies to actually see the major impact it is having on our diets.
The best way to achieve a healthy lifestyle, as far as our diets go, is eating more
fruits and vegetables. We all know it, so why do we head for the potato chips isle
in the grocery store instead of the produce section? Basically it comes down to this.
Junk foods trigger our appetite and leave us longing for more. Ever wonder why
eating one little innocent Cheez it leads to eating half a box? One taste triggers your
body to want to keep eating. Now if you could condition yourself to do that with...

your mind should be thinking of. Healthy Eating Habits #3: Make A Compromise
If you are following the American Diet, your palette now craves high salt and high
sugar foods. Quitting is almost never successful when it is done cold turkey.
People think they need to stop all the bad stuff all at once and then 3 days later
they burn out and revert to bad habits. Being healthy is not about missing out on
the foods you love. If you want pizza, eat a slice with a bowl of fruit salad instead
of french fries. If you want Cheeze Its, eat a handful with a handful of grapes
instead of half the cheez It box. Ease into it and slowly change your eating habits for
the better. Healthy Eating Habits #4: Load Up On
51. The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat Analysis
Through his research in his story The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat
Oliver Sacks presents a seemingly neurotypical man who physically sees in the
most peculiar ways. The patient, Dr. P, often sees objects and people as different
than what they are. For example, he mistakes his foot for a shoe or his wife s head
for a hat. It would be evident as to why he did this if he should signs of a known
mental or visual disability. However, the apparent impairment of his sight was
unexplained. Dr. Sacks did end up discovering that Dr. P s life revolved around
music and used it to help him establish a routine in order to function and make sense
of the world around him. The same can be seen in Mark Haddon s story, The Curious
Incident of the Dog in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
P and Christopher Boone are both easily confused by the world. Since Boone is
autistic he does not understand basic social cues and or other conversation elements
such as jokes. This caused him to see the world through a metaphorical lense that is
not familiar to a neurotypical mind. Boone gets confused with emotions and how
other people feel so he uses math to help him understand, But I was frightened in
two different ways. And one way was being frightened of being far away from a
place I was used to, and the other was being frightened of being near where Father
lived, and they were in inverse proportion of one another, so that together the fear
remained a constant as I got further away from home and further away from
Father... (Haddon 136). In this quote Boone is using math to help him understand
his different fears. Dr. P is different as he sees the world metaphorically the same as
a neurotypical person would however, he poses a severe physical lense and will get
confused by the most simple shapes and formations. To help him understand all of
this he established a routine that he uses everyday and each routine comes with a
song. This assists him immensely because he is a music teacher and music is in his
everyday life, I put his usual clothes out, in all the usual places, and he dresses
without difficulty, singing to himself. He does everything singing to himself.. (Sacks

characters, one who
52. The Common Urinary Tract Infection
Bacterial urinary tract infections represent the most common type of nosocomial
infections. Often, the ability of bacteria to both establish and maintain these
infections are directly related to biofilm formation on indwelling devices or within
the urinary tract itself (30). Enterococci (especially E. faecalis) are one of the main
causative agents of urinary tract infection and Catheter associated urinary tract
infections (CAUTIs) besides gram negative pathogens (31, 32). In these infections
Biofilm provides a favorable milieu for microbial survival within the host as the
organisms are shielded from the host immune response, as well as antibiotics and
antimicrobial agents (33, 34). Several studies conducted to introduce main virulence
genes of enterococci that are associated with biofilm formation in these bacteria(11,
13, 17), but virulence mechanism and related genes for biofilm formation are not
well understood (35). In this study we investigated biofilm formation of clinical
enterococci isolates isolated from Urinary tract infections. These strains were
characterized for presence of adhesions and secretory virulence factors. Isolates had
diverse presence of virulence from lack to highest amount of virulence genes. Several
previous studies investigated relation of virulence genes and biofilm formation,
especially presence of esp and gel. Enterococci esp has been implicated as a
contributing factor in colonization and persistence of infection within the urinary tract

I found interesting that at end of the episode Spike wanted to kill Buffy but ends up
with comforting her and he offer her that anything he do about it. That moment I
realize the perfect match of the title with episode.
My favorite part of these entire episode is when Spike describe how he killed second
Slayer at the subway. It s like a complete simulation for Buffy, same action but
different time and location and how the flashback fight scene and the present fight
scene merged together.
In this episode I notice that all previous Slayer are female. Joss Whedon in this
episode use Asian, Black character as a Slayer but not any male character. Why all
chosen Slayer are female? I don t know what is the reason behind it but out of many

54. Essay on Satire in Canterbury Tales
The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society,
while also inspiring reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, Chaucer satirizes the Medieval Church and those
associated with the church. Medieval society was centered largely around the
Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly possessions
were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was
expected to work until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This
eternal salvation was achieved by obeying God s commandments. This theory,
however, was becoming progressively corrupted as hypocrisybegan to pollute the
Church, particularly at the higher... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaucer makes it quite clear to the reader that these men boast about the high
morals of the Church, and then proceed to live in stark contrast to nearly every one
of these morals. One example is how the Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity.
Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how the Friar had fixed up many a marriage, giving
each/ Of his young women what he could afford her. Therefore, the Friar would find
husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then lost interest in.
Another aspect of the Church that these holy men prove inconsistent is the vow of
simple living. The Monk lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, The Rule of
good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the
things of yesterday/ And took the modern world s more spacious way. The monk
enjoyed the comforts of good living, with fur lined clothing, a fine horse, and first
class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed fine clothing, as Chaucer says, Not then
appearing as your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare habit hardly worth a dollar,
/ But much more like a Doctor or a Pope. These elegant lifestyles are clearly in
opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic living. Finally, the Pardoner
preaches on behalf of the Church against greed and avarice, however he is very
greedy himself. In his tale, the Pardoner tells an excellent tale denouncing greed and
showing how greed leads to a person s downfall, yet the
