Casablanca Essay
Casablanca: An Unconventional Romance
In Casablanca, the prominent themes of unhappy love and self sacrifice set this romantic melodrama
apart from most in its genre. These themes are best expressed in the interactions of the three main
characters: Victor Laszlo, a heroic political leader; Ilsa Lund, an enigmatic femme fatale; and Richard
(Rick) Blaine, a seemingly morally ambiguous night club owner. An unusual love triangle forms with
the two men s mutual love for the intermediary woman. Unlike the archetypal romantic triangle which
includes the betrayed husband and the victorious lover, this situation results in unhappiness and loss
for all involved. All three are willing to sacrifice for this love, ... Show more content on

Ilsa is one of the most enigmatic figures in this story. She is torn between her passionate love for Rick
and her vows of marriage to Victor. She is deluded by her confusing feelings for her husband, ..she
looked up to him, worshipped him, with a feeling she supposed was love. He opened up for her a
whole beautiful world full of knowledge and thoughts and ideals. She loves him as a heroic father
figure. Her inescapable love for Rick causes her to completely surrender her will to his judgment. She
offers to willingly sacrifice herself to him in a loving, but adulterous relationship. Her shameful
decision violates her high ideals, honor, and sacred vows of marriage. In the end, although Rick s
decision brings her great unhappiness, and severs her from the man she passionately loves, she yields
to it and accompanies her husband back into their unfulfilling relationship.
Rick is the morally ambiguous night club owner, who hides a sentimentality behind a neutral facade.
Rick struggles with his feelings of love for Ilsa and his loyalty and admiration for Victor and his
cause. Rick recognizes how important Victor s work is to the world, and sees that Ilsa is a necessary
part of this mission. Rick admires Victor s selfless devotion to Ilsa, and knows that he (Victor) is the
better man. He tells Ilsa, ...inside of us we both know you belong with Victor.

Describe The Relationship Between Eros And Philia
A fine line runs between a healthy, loving relationship, and a menial fling lacking the same respect and
commitment crucial to a meaningful partnership that fulfills the needs of the soul. While all human
desires are important aspect to address in a relationship, if the Greek ideals of Eros and Philia are at
war with one another rather than integrated together in a balanced manner. A relationship described,
without the balance between Eros and Philia, would not be one of romance, but instead one of either
unadulterated lust in the case of the focus being set on Eros, or simply platonic, without any passion if
the relationship is solely one of Philia (Moseley). Different kinds of love can also be defined by how
the fall on philosopher, Robert Sternberg s triangular model of love. Intimacy, passion, and
commitment combined are the components of the ideal relationship, however this model creates a total
of eight types of love, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1996 song released by the band Neutral Milk Hotel, Song Against Sex expresses the frustrated
sentiments experienced when the balance of a relationship lies almost solely in the intimacy vertex of
Sternberg s model, and is expressed predominantly through the passionate strifes of Eros and a neglect
of the compassion of Philia. The poet, Jeff Magnum, writes near the end of the song, when all the
pleasure points attacking all the looks of love were staged , which describes how a couple can appear
to be happy due to their physical needs being met. However when the emotional needs of a couple are
lacking, the relationship feels like a lie that you ve been given that just hurts you everyday , or in other
words the lack of love in a purely physical liason can leave members feeling hurt, used, and empty, a
very emotionally unhealthy situation for one to be

Chase’s Strategy for Syndicating the Hong Kong Disneyland...
1. Chase should have bid for the loan mandate in such a way to maximize the investment fee income
after controlling for risks involved, and the client s preferences for syndicated loan. Thus. Chase faced
a trade off between Risks and rewards. We have to weigh out the risks with rewards as below
Risks Involved
Credit and Downgrade risk This arises from the level of exposure that Chase would take in the
HK$3.3 billion loan. Usually they put a limit of 10%. Thus Chase had to bid in such a way to have
greater co operation from syndicating partners so as to reduce the resulting loan exposure by way of
spreading the risk with other players
Underwriting risk The risk that the issue may be undersubscribed leading to Chase taking up ... Show

Thus a competitive but less profitable bid could result in more profitable bid in future
The market flex clause effectively reduces Chase s underwriting risk and gives them room to reduce
underwriting fees and be competitive.
Thus, Chase must bid to win, and set a competitive underwriting fee and an option to syndicate for the
risk and rewards discussed above.
2. We would recommend Disney to sign Chase´s standard commitment letter because, by doing so,
Disney would increase the probability of a successful closure of the project. If the situation changes
adversely for Chase, the bank has the possibility of renegotiating some aspects of the contract instead
of pulling out and ruin the execution of the project.
This also gives Disney the power to negotiate for a lower underwriting fees
However, Disney might be concerned because
The market flex terms which give Chase the possibility of changing the contract without the borrower
´s consent. In the clause is written that changes would be done after consultation with Disney but this
term could be confusing.
Moreover, the standard contract is vague in conditions under which Chase would apply triggering
clauses.
Another concern for Disney should be the fact that if the company sign the market flex terms, Chase
would be over charging underwriting fees which aim is usually to cover

The Factors of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Essay
The Factors of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Post traumatic stress disorder occurs after a person is
exposed to a terrifying ordeal which causes either grave physical or psychological harm where harm
was threatened. It can become an extremely debilitating disorder to the persons life. The person can
have problems interacting in social and family life, occupational instability and the breakdown of
marriages can occur. The disorder is triggered after traumatic events such as violent personal assaults
such as mugging or rape, or to family, natural disasters such as earthquakes, accidents such as car
crashes, human disasters such as 9/11 and after military combat such as the soldiers who fought in ...

Stimulus generalisation is the tendency for stimuli similar to an original stimulus involved in a
learning situation to produce the response originally acquired. Behavioural psychologists suggest that
a person produces a fear reaction to the trauma situation; this fear is then produced again in response
to a similar stimulus, due to classical conditioning. Evidence for this theory was produced by Pavlov
(1927) who conducted experiments were dogs were presented with stimuli that elicited fear responses.
The dogs associated these stimuli with particular environmental cues. When these stimuli were
produced in front of the dogs the fear response was expressed. Evidence against the theory is that
classical conditioning cannot be the only mechanism involved in PTSD, since not everyone who is
exposed to a traumatic event develops the disorder. Cognitive explanation PTSD evolve due to a
person not processing the traumatic memories. Not processing the memories occurs due to the person
keeping busy with socially valued life roles. Therefore the memories do not get integrated into a
persons view about the world. To stop the symptoms of PTSD the cognitive explanation suggests that
people must process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their world views, once they
have thought about their experience the responses associated with it will go.

Kaleb Research Paper
Do you know what your name means? The meaning of your name can say a lot about you. Some
people base name of figures of authority or after someone they knew before. Most people have three
parts to their name: first, middle, and last. This means that each on can describe you in different ways.
Each part of the name means and describes an attribute about you. My first name is Kaleb. Kaleb can

Essential Oil
Where do they come from?
There are three main ways that essential oils can be extracted from fruits and plants:
Distillation
Steam passes through the plant and is caught in a condenser. (drericz, 2018, para. 24)
The condenser then cools down the steam and it turns to liquid. (drericz, 2018, para. 24)
Because of the essential oil s lipophilic nature it separates from the water allowing it to be extracted
(drericz, 2018, para. 24)
Expression (Cold Pressing)
Most often done with to obtain citrus essential oils (Asbahani, 2014, p. 227)
Fruit is placed in machine with small spikes that poke the rind, breaking the oil sacs, to release the
essential oil (Asbahani, 2014, p. 227)

Examples of essential oils that are known to inhibit the growth of E. coli (at certain concentrations):
Bay oil, clove oil, lemon grass oil, oregano oil and thyme oil (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
How do essential oils fight bacteria?
Essential oils are often lipophilic so they are able to destabilize the bacteria s plasma membrane (Raut
Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
They can also interfere with how proton pumps in the bacteria cell membrane work, decreasing
membrane integrity (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 252)
Antifungal
Essential oils rich in terpenoids have been found to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans (one of the
major pathogens infecting humans today) (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256)
Essential oils such as tea tree and eucalyptus oil can prevent C. albicans from entering the S phase of
the cells cycle, where DNA replication occurs (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256).
How do essential oils fight fungi?
Inhibits membrane sterol, ergosterol, and signalling pathways so that morphogenesis cannot occur
(Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p. 256)
Weakens mitochondrial membrane, resulting in apoptosis (Raut Karuppayil, 2014, p.

Disadvantages Of Simple Marathi Sentences To English As...
Abstract: With globalization English has become the official language of the world. With about 71
million Marathi speaking people and varied works in Marathi literature and novels calls for
translation. A system is proposed that translates simple Marathi sentences to English using Rule based
approach. The system makes use of an online POS (parts of speech) tagger maintained by TDIL.
Using rule based approach the system is feasible up to certain extent.
Keywords: Natural Language Processing, Rule based Machine Translation, Marathi, English,
Grammar
1. Introduction
About 71 million of the earth s 7 billion people speak Marathi as their native tongue. [3] Marathi is
one of the top 22 official languages of India. Research and documents ... Show more content on

The Word to Word Translator converts the Source Language words into Target Language using the
Bilingual Lexicon. Re arrangement Algorithm then rearranges these Target Language words into the
correct Target Language sentence structure. The Target Language Generator takes this output and
displays the sentence into the Target Language.
5. Scope of Use
5.1. Advantages
India is a country with a large population well versed with vernacular languages but not fluent in
English. A Marathi to English translation system will be helpful to the Marathi speaking population
who need to converse in English. Lot of documents, scripts and scriptures in Marathi also need to be
translated to English and this process is manual. Marathi to English translation system will help to
automate this process and help reduce manual work related to translation.
5.2. Limitations
Considering the number of rules [2] to be included in the system, it is not possible to achieve perfect
translations for each and every sentence. There might be some disambiguation present in some
sentence translations. It is also language specific and cannot be used for translation of any other
language pair. It is also limited to sentences in the domain of the project and cannot be used for

Benefits Of Insurance And Self Insured Employers
When it comes to explaining fully insured versus self insured employers it is important that we have
an accurate understanding of the definitions of and differences between the two. According to benefits
communication expert Jennifer Benz of Benz Communications in
San Francisco
If an employer sponsored plan is fully insured, the insurance company is ultimately responsible for the
health care costs and the employer pays premiums. If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the
employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus
administration fees.
There are different risks involved with both types of plans. Typically, smaller companies with fewer
employees opt for fully insured plans and larger companies with 5000 or more employees opt to be
self insured. According to the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) in 2008, 88 percent of
workers in firms with 3 199 employees were in fully insured plans and 89 percent of workers
employed in firms with 5000 or more employees were in self insured plans. (MacDonald, 2009) The
EBRI Fast Facts paper goes on to say overall for that same year 45 percent of workers in the health
insurance market share were covered by fully insured plans versus 55 percent for self insured plans.

Core Values Of Civil Rights
From the 1930s to the 1960s, many events, such as World War II, the Cold War, and the Civil Rights
Movement took place. During World War II, Japanese Americans were wrongfully interned, African
Americans were discriminated against in the military and the workforce, and American citizens were
lied to about the Manhattan Project. Within the Cold War, as well as the Post World War II era, The Un
american Activities Committee was formed, women were discriminated against in the workforce, and
African Americans faced racism from those who dealt with the GI Bill of Rights. From the 1950s to
the 1960s, during the Civil Rights Movement, Emmett Till s murderers and the Ku Klux Klan
members who bombed a church were not found guilty, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his
Letter from Birmingham Jail . These events did not show the core values that the United States does
not always adhere and promote the democratic values of liberty, equality, and justice upon which it
was founded in a moral, political, and social standpoint.
Liberty is one of the democratic values that the United States was founded upon. Liberty is defined as
being free and having rights, such as the rights of citizenship, which is amendment fourteen. These
rights and liberty were taken away from American citizens during World War II. During this time,
Japanese Americans were wrongfully interned. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States
became very paranoid. It was believed that Japanese Americans

Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargain
Plea Bargain Pros and Cons
Introduction
The criminal justice system is in constant demands of a lot of logistics and resources to maintain its
functionality. Many of these come with the high price of trying accused persons. Nevertheless, there
has been a long established common law component that affords the accused to cop out in return for a
reduce sentence. A plea bargain is an agreement by the defendant to plead guilty to charges in
exchange for something of benefit to them. (Hayden, 2017, p. 377). Thus, a person who is alleged to
have committed a specific crime is able to plead guilty and get a lighter sentence. At face value, it
appears to be a good thing that produces a win win situation for the criminal justice system as well as

Advocate And Serve
Crutchfield and Grant identify six practices of high impact nonprofits: advocate and serve, make
markets work, inspire evangelists, nurture nonprofit networks, master the art of adaptation, and share
leadership. All of these practices proved to be crucial in the success of the twelve featured nonprofits,
however, there are two practices that I find to be more intriguing than the rest. Advocate and serve and
inspire evangelists are the two practices that stand out. The practice of advocate and serve was a new
concept to me, which is, in part, why I found it particularly interesting. The practice of inspiring
evangelists, is a concept I am familiar with, but I have never seen it articulated this well.
Advocate and serve is complex practice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be the answer to the issue addressed by Berger and Neuhaus in their essay entitled, To
Empower People: From State to Civil Society. They write about the paradox of the public s desire for
public services, coupled with their resistance to government intervention. When nonprofits are
successful in advocating within the government sphere, they expand opportunities through means such
as: increased government funding, tax breaks, changes to tax codes, policy changes, raised awareness,
and, ultimately, changes to public behavior. These results allow nonprofits the opportunity to
maximize their impact, therefore fulfilling the public need while keeping the government seemingly
uninvolved.
Regardless of one s beliefs on integrating advocacy and service, it is difficult to dispute that social
aliments we face today stem from a deeper issue within the infrastructure of our society. Direct service
organizations offer temporary solutions, a Band Aid, if you will, to buy time for change. Advocacy
groups aim to resolve the root problem that results in the need for the Band Aid. We need direct
service organizations. We need advocacy groups. Does it make sense for the two to be one in the

Washington,D.C. She did extensive research for the wall on subjects ranging from cultural memorials
through out history to soldiers journals from World War I. The completion of the wall turned out to be
her breaking moment in the world of art. After creating her visionary Vietnam Veterans Memorial she
suffered much controversy and criticism. Many Veterans believed her simple black wall with listed

statues of soldiers the veterans had expected. Critics even began using her asian background to
discriminate against her, which had not been an issue for Lin before this time. Even Ross Pero after
finding out she was asian was heard to call her an egg roll. Lin feels if her lineage had been known at
the time of the contest she never would have won. This criticism almost caused Lin to exit the world
of art forever, if it hadn t been for the immense impact the wall had on visitors and the sheer number
of them. Many visitors found closure and rejoice in finding there loved ones names and leaving

When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive
behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a
material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity
reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an
activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who
did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer
recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more
and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic
strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level
decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a
secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same
low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped
the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not
performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of
Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class

harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal and

Meaning Of Harm
To have a genuine of the meaning of harm , it is simply something that causes someone to be hurt.
Although, the harm created that is usually harmful to people, can very likely be harmful to the
environment, as well. The principle that prevents harming others is linked to the idea of environmental
protection and the safety of people involved. Despite the fact, in both environmental protection, and
product and worker safety cases, there is often the possibility of people justifiably accepting some
harm for greater good, and especially of accepting the risk of some possible harm for the attainment of
some assured good. (DeGeorge, 272) Harm is undeniably something to pay close attention to but it

Liability for one s actions means that one can rightly be made to pay for the adverse effects of one s
actions on others. (DeGeorge, 104) Liability does not necessarily involve moral responsibility for the

accepted or applicable. It is the responsibility placed on somebody who did not act negligently. For
example, consider selling a product that has defective problems. You did not intentionally make it
defective but you are held liable for it, even though the seller did not intend to have it defective.
Corporate liability is different because it is formed to limit the liability of shareholders. It determines
the extent to how much they are liable for, unlike strict liability. The corporation can be punished or

Technology in Medicine
Technology in medicine has been evolving for over a fifty decades. It has changed and is still
changing the way medicine is being practiced. The pace of how technology has had an impact on

compared to first world countries. We cannot deny the prowess of medical technology and how the
crucial it is for the people s health and the society. There are disadvantages and advantages that

Since the 18th century technology in medicine has been on the increase. There are a number of

been enhanced by modern technology. The stethoscope first discovered by Rene Laennes (1816), Sir
Alexander Fleming also discovered the first antibiotic which opened doors to so many other

A Correlation Between Emotion-Focused Coping With Test...
A Correlation Between Emotion Focused Coping With Test Anxiety And Age Motivation can come
from a variety of factors in an individual s life, stress is one of those factors that can have either a
positive or a negative effect (Deckers, 2014; Heiman, 2004). Stress can appear in an individual
through physiological, psychological and behavioural symptoms (Deckers, 2014). Deckers (2014)
conveys that when an individual has a physiological response to stress, it is the product of hormones
creating the symptom in the body, for example, nausea or sweating. In addition the psychological
symptoms representing stress are identified through the level of stability of an individual s mind and
feelings, and can be rated through measures of anxiousness, nervousness, self confidence, irritability
or negativity of emotions (Deckers, 2014). Behavioural symptoms of stress can be enacted out by an
individual through excessive or dysfunctional conduct, for example, through an increase in
consumption of alcohol or caffeine, an intake of drugs, or poor sleeping habits (Deckers, 2014).
Although the symptoms mentioned have an attached negative stigma, it does not necessarily follow
that all encounters with it will result in negativity. Deckers (2014) explains that stress can be a
motivator to a goal: if a problem arises in the pursuit of the goal, stress can occur, then an individual
could be encouraged to overcome the situation to achieve their goal through coping. Lazarus and

How Did Race And Alliances Cause Ww1
WWI was a devastating war with losses to all countries involved. It started in 1914. There are many
causes that started the war, but they were all dealing with power and money ultimately. The Great
powers started fighting and it all started from there. The main causes of WWI were Race and alliances
, Armaments, and Most importantly Imperialism. Race and alliances had a big part to do in the cause
of the war. The triple alliance, which was Germany Hungary Austria and Italy, were surrounded by
bigger countries and other alliances and that was a problem. Germany would be in big trouble and
they were worried because they feared they would have to fight a two front war. In 1915 Italy would
switch sides which hurt Germany and Austria Hungary because they lost an ally and they already had
the millions of Russians with pitchforks to deal with. Russia had a special ethnic group with Serbia
because they both had the Slavic race in there countries. When Austria Hungary declared war against
Serbia this seems like it could cause a major problem. If Serbia had Slavic population and Russia had
slavic population then Russia would probably help Serbia in the war which in turn would lead to the
United kingdom helping Russia and then Germany would help Austria Hungary as well as Italy, ...

Persuasive Speech On Babysitting
Many teenagers turn toward babysitting as a means of earning money. However, the first time a person
babysits can be nerve wracking. Children are unimaginably important to their parents. It takes a lot of
trust for a parent to put his or her child in the care and protection of a babysitter. This puts an immense
amount of pressure on a babysitter to be perfect. Despite all the stress babysitting can bring, it is easy
if you follow four simple rules. When first arriving at the house, it is important to ask for all the
necessary contact and emergency information, so that if anything bad happened, you would know who
to call and what to do. Because an emergency is a high stress situation, you could easily forget the
emergency information. It is helpful to write down the information as you receive it and putting it
somewhere that is readily available. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting the information and
ensures that you can handle an emergency quickly and effectively.
Along with emergency and contact information, ask about the child s typical schedule when they eat
meals, if and/or when they take a nap, and other basic rules the parent has. Do your best to stick to
these schedules, but do not force the schedule on the child. Sometimes kids get tired sooner than
naptime or are not hungry at dinnertime. This is completely okay. Do not be afraid to upset the parent
by not following the schedule strictly. Generally, children are unpredictable and schedules are only

Do you agree with the view expressed in source three that...
Do you agree with the view expressed in source three that the diplomatic situation was the main
reason for Henry s failure to obtain an annulment of his marriage to Catherine by 1529? We can
clearly see that there is more than one reason why Henry wanted to gain an annulment to Catherine in
1529, and that it wasn t purely down to reasons all diplomatically related. Although saying this, it s
also clear that the diplomatic situation at the time was a huge contributing factor for the failure. It
most definitely did slow down the progress Henry made in achieving his annulment. At the time of the
annulment, it was known that the Pope was hugely influenced by Charles V, who at the time was the
Holy Roman Emperor. Due to Charles role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another diplomatic situation that stacked against Henry, was the lack of allies he had, and especially
the fact that he had no powerful allies to support him in his struggle, or powerful enough to oppose the
Pope and Charles. With it looking that Henry had absolutely no diplomatic power or control in this
situation, it was looking that he would stand almost no chance in changing the mind of the Pope and
Charles into agreeing to the annulment. Although it s beginning to look like diplomatic status was the
only reason that caused the failure in the annulment, there were other factors such as Wolsey. At this
point in time,Wolsey was widely unpopular, especially in England. He had previously had huge
influence amongst the ranks of the courtiers, but they now felt no need to obey his orders. Due to this,
he justlike Henry had very few allies, and the few he did have weren t powerful enough to help him in
his cause. Due to this he was faced with great issues when it came to convincing Campeggio that
Henry had plausible reason to gain an annulment. Arguably the biggest fault of Wolsey, would be his
very poor relations with the Vatican and the papacy. Source J says that Wolsey s only real hope at
obtaining Henry s annulment would be to turn the people on Charles and gain more powerful allies

Gerber s Servant Leadership
Although Gerber (2007) provided several leadership themes throughout the book such as Servant
Leadership by Greenleaf (1977), The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner (1995), and
Motivation and Personality by Maslow (1954) she could have provided an even stronger argument by
referring to Goleman s (1995) book on Emotional Intelligence. Early on in ER s marriage to FDR she
was faced with the realization that her social secretary, a young beautiful woman of twenty one was
having an affair with her husband. FDR then in the role of assistant secretary of the Navy (p.67) was
neither discreet nor restrained about romancing his mistress in public (Gerber, 2007). ER could have
easily reacted to this situation with anger, frustration, and contempt, instead she focused on her own
growth (p. 71). Goleman termed this type of inner healing as optimism or hope which has healing
power (p.177). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of measuring ones IQ (conventional intelligence) Goleman s theory required administrators to
look at the leader s EQ (emotional intelligence) which measures behavioral and character elements of
intelligence. ER believed that by turning her sorrow into strength and practicing EQ she could handle
the low points or dark hours of her life. As Gerber (2007) wrote Like Eleanor, you should work toward
self mastery the ability to take control on your own terms for the purpose of healing and helping
yourself (p. 72). In Dubrin s 2010 book on leadership he believed that when star performers were
compared with average ones in senior leadership positions, differences in emotional intelligence were
more pronounced than differences in cognitive abilities (p.

Is Harm Reduction a Desirable National Drug Control Policy...
Is Harm Reduction a Desirable National Drug Control Policy Goal?
There are many differing viewpoints in the United States when dealing with drug policy. Within the
political arena, drug policy is a platform that many politicians base their entire campaigns upon, thus
showing its importance to our society in general. Some of these modes within which drug policy is
studied are in terms of harm reduction, and supply reduction. When studying the harmful effects of
drugs, we must first to attempt to determine if drug abuse harms on an individual level of if it is a
major cause of many societal problems that we face today. In drawing a preliminary conclusion to this
question we are then able to outline the avenues of approach in dealing ... Show more content on

Those that are opposed to harm reduction feel that its advocates are hypocrites that call for tougher
policies in dealing with alcohol and tobacco yet in the same breath call for reductions in the penalties
for illegal drug use. Opponents also believe that initiating a harm reduction policy may in fact increase
the use of illegal drugs as well as the people that are seeking drug treatment. Robert J. MacCoun, is an
associate professor in the Graduate School of Public policy at the University of California and author
of Toward a Psychology of Harm Reduction. Professor MacCoun also supports the movement towards
a harm reduction approach to drugs. He explains how the harm reduction movement emerged in
Amsterdam in the 1980 s in response to mounting heath issues directly related to the use of drugs.
Professor MacCoun illustrates that harm reduction is not a program that has been proven effective in
the war on drugs, being constantly rejected as a viable option to present drug enforcement policy by
the United States government. Professor MacCoun illustrates however that the policies that the U.S.
presently has in place has failed in its ability to eliminate drug use thus causing the major harms of
drug use in place. Professor MacCoun believes that many of the drug related problems we have today
are a result of poor legislation as well as the

Peter Christen Asbjornsen s East of the Sun and West of the Moon is a Norwegian fairy tale that
revolves around the journey of a young woman who is unknowingly married off to a prince trapped in
the form of a polar bear. She is forbidden see him at night and is put through an impossible trial once
she discovers his identity. Likewise, Apuleius version of Cupid and Psyche tells of Psyche, a beautiful
young woman, who finds herself unknowingly married to Cupid. She too is forbidden from

In East of the Sun and West of the Moon, the heroine must travel to a land that is simply known as
East of the Sun and West of the Moon to retrieve her husband. However, she has not an inkling of
knowledge of how to get there and decides to enlist the help of the East Wind, but confesses that he
has never blown to the land that she is looking for and thus states that he will take her to [his] brother
the West Wind, maybe he knows. (Asbjornsen 20). The West Wind then takes her to the South Wind,
who then takes her to the North Wind who is able to finally bring her to the land her prince has fled to.
Impossible tasks are undergone by Psyche as well, which Venus puts forth in her endeavor to stop
Psyche from having her beloved son. In her first trial, Psyche is ordered to sort a vast heap of mixed
grains, but an ant came to her rescue and summoned his army to isolate each different grain. (Morford

succeeded. In the third task she was to fill a jar of water from the stream in the Underworld and the
eagle of Jupiter swooped down and filled the jar for Psyche. (215). In the final task, Cupid himself
helps her by putting sleep back into the box that she was ordered to bring from the Underworld. An

How Does Religion And Science Relate Together
Research Note:
Inquiry focus: How does religion and science relate together
The relationship between religion and science has been a subject of study since classical antiquity,
addressed by philosophers, theologians, scientists, and others. Different concept come from different
geographical regions, cultures and history. most scientific and technical innovations prior to the
scientific revolution were achieved by societies organized by religious traditions. The scientific
method were beginning by ancient pagan, Islamic, and Christian. In the ancient and medieval world,
the etymological Latin roots of both science and religion were understood as inner qualities of the
individual or virtues.

Religion and Science: Competitors or Companions. Can Religion and Science coexist each other or
not? This is a good topic for philosophy. A lot of scientists also have religious conviction, such as
Galileo, Alister McGrath. Science studies how the heavens go, religion how to get to heaven. Science
is investigates objective empirical facts, religion subjective questions of true meaning. Science and
Religion must exist an overlapping field. Science without religion is lame, religion without science is
blind.

Ray Shultz s Spring Awakening
On Thursday, October 19th, Ray Shultz, Professor of theater arts, and the theatre company, presented a
lecture/demonstration on the soon to be staged musical Spring Awakening. Several members of the
company as well as Professor Shultz spoke about the musical and gave the audience some of the
background informations, as well as enacted three excerpts of the production. The musical, Shultz
explains, was written in the Spring of 1890, and although at the beginning was considered scandalous,
it is now considered a classic of dramatic literature, as it has influenced and anticipated a lot of other
dramatic forms. It is a very influential play even though not well known to mainstream audiences. At
the time of its creation it was very reviled and controversial, and because of that it was not given a

Who Is Susan B Anthony A Hero
She was severe in her moral judgments, had sympathy for people, and dedicated her life to the
movements for reform. Susan B. Anthony spoke her mind about what she believed in. She grew up
feeling that everyone should be equal no matter your gender or color. In the world, she noticed that
this was everyone s philosophy men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing
less (Susan B(rownell) Anthony). Anthony informed many about temperance. She elucidated how
everyone should be equal. She supported that black men needed to be free and encouraged people to
make everyone equal. Susan B. Anthony used her voice to help people cognize the evils of alcohol and

Anthony was insane for trying women equal but she always told herself that [F]ailure was impossible
(qtd. in Matthews). Anthony registered to vote in Rochester and was charged $100 fine that she never
paid, [I]n 1872 after concluding that nothing in the Constitution specifically prohibited women from
voting (Susan B. Anthony). She refused to pay because it wasn t fair that men got to vote but women
didn t. What made men more important than women? Some saw no point in women voting; with no
understanding of politics, they would only vote as their menfolk told them (Lavender, William, and
Mary). This is why people insulted and made fun of her, she believed in something not very many
other people did. She needed to get men to agree with her. When Susan B. Anthony began the women
s suffrage movement ...women had few legal rights. [T]oday women have opportunities for higher
education, the privilege of working at almost any occupation, the right to control or own property and
children, the right to hold public office, and the right to vote (Susan B.. Anthony). Through Susan
Anthony s hard work, efforts, and dedication she helped the world of women better. She knew that
women were capable of things that nobody else thought we were able to do. Anthony never got to see
the ratification of the 19th Amendment, because it took a century to get the world to agree with her.
Before this happened, she wanted to get black men out of slavery so more people would start to like

Martin Luther s Reform Of The Church
The new year has begun and much has changed with respect to the state of Holy Mother Church. This
is the 100th year anniversary of Our Lady s appearance at Fatima. However, what is being emphasized
in the wondrous Vatican is the celebration of the heresiarch Luther s rebellion against the Church. The
historical revisionists and modernists in the Vatican are trying their best to transform chicken scat into
chicken salad. Luther is being touted as a reformer of the Church. Cardinal Kurt Koch stated: Luther
was pressing for a substantial reform of the Church and not a Reformation that would lead to the
disintegration of the unity of the Church. The fact that, at the time, his idea of reform was not able to

Gradualism coupled with the false catechesis with regard to the nature and potency of conscience has
resulted in the current estimation that ï‚» 80% of childbearing aged Catholic females practice artificial

54% of catholics say abortion is legal is all or most cases. Most do not know that they engaged in the

that some of the practitioners of AC and those who revert to direct abortion may be subjectively

directly attributed to the lack of catechesis on the part of bishops, priests and deacons who are charged

The Asian Financial Crisis Of 1997
Commonly referred to as the Asian Contagion the East Asian financial crisis of 1997 marked a time in
which multiple Asian countries fell into a recession as a result of financialization. Although the East
Asian financial crisis affected over ten countries, Thailand s economy is will first be primarily
analyzed prior to the crash because it was the first economy to fall and essentially started the crisis. In
retrospect, the complexity of the financial crisis has caused much debate on what actually started the
crisis in the first place. In order to address the various positions of the East Asian financial crisis, the
works of Charles Kindleberger, Krippner, and Dani Rodrik are analyzed and compared. While the
crisis has many components that ultimately suggest that conjoined multiple factors are potentially to
blame, these authors suggest that specific instances are the main culprit. In essence, Kindleberger
states that investor and lender speculation deemed the crisis inevitable, Krippner condemns
government policies, while Rodrik suggests that hyper globalization is to blame. In order to analyze
the causes of the financial crisis, it is imperative to first describe Thailand s economic practices prior
to 1997 chronologically. Moreover, it is important to note that the Thai government was known for
being a corrupt, notoriously unstable multi party coalitions unable to formulate (let alone implement) a
coherent macroeconomic policy. So, much of the pressure to ensure

Episode Of War Naturalism
Naturalism analyses objectivity and the loss of individuality to study the instinctual nature of human
beings when governed by forces beyond their control. An Episode of War by Stephen Crane uses
elements of naturalism to describe what happens to a lieutenant after being shot in the arm. Characters
in naturalism literature, such as the lieutenant, experience forces of heredity, environment, passion, or
instinct that weaken their attempts to exercise free will. In An Episode of War, Crane incorporates a
dynamic setting, evolving characterization, and person vs self conflict to prove that war brings more
tragedy than glory. The use of dynamic setting in the story contributes to the instinctual forces the
character experiences and the dark scenes involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also through the evolution of the character, we see how he is made less and less of a hero and more of
a strange object that has been damaged by war. Before he was shot, the lieutenant had a position and a
duty that he took seriously. With the shot of a single mysterious bullet into his arm, he transforms into
an unknown version of himself that displaces the people around him and becomes unrecognizable to
himself. At this moment, the men around him gazed statue like and silent, astonished and awed by this
catastrophe, as if they no longer recognize the man he was (Crane 1). He begins to feel helpless and as
if being wounded has made him into very brittle glass (Crane 2). Moving further away from his
position and duty as a lieutenant, he fades more into a dazed man, wandering around to find his way to
get the help that he needs. He realizes that he does not know how to be correctly wounded (Crane 2).
This is evolving characterization because he does change in a significant way after being shot. He
loses any sense of glory that he had and feels the direct consequence of being in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multilevel Inverters
3.1 CLASSIFICATION OF MODULATION STRATEGIES The modulation methods used in
multilevel inverters can be classified according to the switching frequency was discussed in Rodriguez
et al (2002), Celanovic and Boroyevic (2001) and Rodriguez et al (2001). Modulation techniques that
work with high switching frequencies have many commutations for the power semiconductors in a
cycle of the fundamental output voltage. Multilevel inverters generate sinusoidal voltages from
discrete voltage levels, and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategies accomplish this task of
generating sinusoids of variable voltages and frequencies. Several techniques for the implementation
of PWM for multilevel inverters have been developed. The well known high switching ... Show more

Fig. 3.2.1 Control Signal and Carrier signals Fig.3.2.2 Output Voltage.
This result has been obtained for the multi cell inverter in a seven level configuration, which uses
three series connected cells in each phase. The smallest distortion is obtained when the carriers are
shifted by an angle of 120°.
A very common practice in industrial applications for the multilevel inverter is the injection of a third
harmonic in each cell to increase the output voltage was discussed in Hammond (1997) and Hill and
Harbourt (1999). Another advantageous feature of multilevel SPWM is that the effective switching
frequency of the load voltage is much higher than the switching frequency of each cell, as determined
by its carrier signal. This property allows a reduction in the switching frequency of each cell, thus
reducing the switching losses.
The advantage of the method is that it is very simple. But it has two disadvantages. The first method
cannot completely eliminate the low order harmonics. Therefore the low order harmonics cause loss
and high filter requirements. The second method is the high switching frequency which causes high
switching loss and low efficiency

Female Sex Offenders Essay
As with any criminal whether being released from their first offense or being a veteran to the system,
each runs the risk of becoming repeat offender with a new crime they have never committed or going
back to their comfort zone crime. Regarding female sex offenders they also run the risk of becoming
repeat offender to a sex crime or a non related sex crime. Female offenders with higher number of
victims or higher amounts of non relating crimes are in risk of recidivism at a higher rate. According
to Witt Pirelli (2016) several risk factors for sex offending to consider with female sexual offenders
are as follow:
Prior felony offenses
Prior drug offenses
Prior non sexual child victim offenses
Also, female sex offenders recidivism rate is much lower for all types of crime than compare with
male sex offenders, with a low rate between 1 % to 1.28% for a sexual crime. (p. 40) Taking into
consideration that female sex offenders frequently don t become repeat criminal offenders as much as
male offenders, is it fair to speculate that punishment for female sex offenders is lenient.
This speculation is possibly due since female sex offenders are viewed as nurturers or law
enforcement/courts don t place as much importance. According to Sandler Freeman (2011), one theory

  • 2. Casablanca Essay Casablanca: An Unconventional Romance In Casablanca, the prominent themes of unhappy love and self sacrifice set this romantic melodrama apart from most in its genre. These themes are best expressed in the interactions of the three main characters: Victor Laszlo, a heroic political leader; Ilsa Lund, an enigmatic femme fatale; and Richard (Rick) Blaine, a seemingly morally ambiguous night club owner. An unusual love triangle forms with the two men s mutual love for the intermediary woman. Unlike the archetypal romantic triangle which includes the betrayed husband and the victorious lover, this situation results in unhappiness and loss for all involved. All three are willing to sacrifice for this love, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ilsa is one of the most enigmatic figures in this story. She is torn between her passionate love for Rick and her vows of marriage to Victor. She is deluded by her confusing feelings for her husband, ..she looked up to him, worshipped him, with a feeling she supposed was love. He opened up for her a whole beautiful world full of knowledge and thoughts and ideals. She loves him as a heroic father figure. Her inescapable love for Rick causes her to completely surrender her will to his judgment. She offers to willingly sacrifice herself to him in a loving, but adulterous relationship. Her shameful decision violates her high ideals, honor, and sacred vows of marriage. In the end, although Rick s decision brings her great unhappiness, and severs her from the man she passionately loves, she yields to it and accompanies her husband back into their unfulfilling relationship. Rick is the morally ambiguous night club owner, who hides a sentimentality behind a neutral facade. Rick struggles with his feelings of love for Ilsa and his loyalty and admiration for Victor and his cause. Rick recognizes how important Victor s work is to the world, and sees that Ilsa is a necessary part of this mission. Rick admires Victor s selfless devotion to Ilsa, and knows that he (Victor) is the better man. He tells Ilsa, ...inside of us we both know you belong with Victor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Describe The Relationship Between Eros And Philia A fine line runs between a healthy, loving relationship, and a menial fling lacking the same respect and commitment crucial to a meaningful partnership that fulfills the needs of the soul. While all human desires are important aspect to address in a relationship, if the Greek ideals of Eros and Philia are at war with one another rather than integrated together in a balanced manner. A relationship described, without the balance between Eros and Philia, would not be one of romance, but instead one of either unadulterated lust in the case of the focus being set on Eros, or simply platonic, without any passion if the relationship is solely one of Philia (Moseley). Different kinds of love can also be defined by how the fall on philosopher, Robert Sternberg s triangular model of love. The 1996 song released by the band Neutral Milk Hotel, Song Against Sex expresses the frustrated sentiments experienced when the balance of a relationship lies almost solely in the intimacy vertex of Sternberg s model, and is expressed predominantly through the passionate strifes of Eros and a neglect of the compassion of Philia. The poet, Jeff Magnum, writes near the end of the song, when all the pleasure points attacking all the looks of love were staged , which describes how a couple can appear to be happy due to their physical needs being met. However when the emotional needs of a couple are lacking, the relationship feels like a lie that you ve been given that just hurts you everyday , or in other words the lack of love in a purely physical liason can leave members feeling hurt, used, and empty, a very emotionally unhealthy situation for one to be ... Chase should have bid for the loan mandate in such a way to maximize the investment fee income after controlling for risks involved, and the client s preferences for syndicated loan. Thus. Chase faced a trade off between Risks and rewards. We have to weigh out the risks with rewards as below Risks Involved Credit and Downgrade risk This arises from the level of exposure that Chase would take in the HK$3.3 billion loan. Usually they put a limit of 10%. Thus Chase had to bid in such a way to have greater co operation from syndicating partners so as to reduce the resulting loan exposure by way of spreading the risk with other players Underwriting risk The risk that the issue may be undersubscribed leading to Chase taking up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus a competitive but less profitable bid could result in more profitable bid in future The market flex clause effectively reduces Chase s underwriting risk and gives them room to reduce underwriting fees and be competitive. Thus, Chase must bid to win, and set a competitive underwriting fee and an option to syndicate for the risk and rewards discussed above. 2. We would recommend Disney to sign Chase´s standard commitment letter because, by doing so, Disney would increase the probability of a successful closure of the project. If the situation changes adversely for Chase, the bank has the possibility of renegotiating some aspects of the contract instead of pulling out and ruin the execution of the project. This also gives Disney the power to negotiate for a lower underwriting fees However, Disney might be concerned because The market flex terms which give Chase the possibility of changing the contract without the borrower ´s consent. In the clause is written that changes would be done after consultation with Disney but this term could be confusing. Moreover, the standard contract is vague in conditions under which Chase would apply triggering clauses. Another concern for Disney should be the fact that if the company sign the market flex terms, Chase would be over charging underwriting fees which aim is usually to cover ... Stimulus generalisation is the tendency for stimuli similar to an original stimulus involved in a learning situation to produce the response originally acquired. Behavioural psychologists suggest that a person produces a fear reaction to the trauma situation; this fear is then produced again in response to a similar stimulus, due to classical conditioning. Evidence for this theory was produced by Pavlov (1927) who conducted experiments were dogs were presented with stimuli that elicited fear responses. The dogs associated these stimuli with particular environmental cues. When these stimuli were produced in front of the dogs the fear response was expressed. Evidence against the theory is that classical conditioning cannot be the only mechanism involved in PTSD, since not everyone who is exposed to a traumatic event develops the disorder. Cognitive explanation PTSD evolve due to a person not processing the traumatic memories. Not processing the memories occurs due to the person keeping busy with socially valued life roles. Therefore the memories do not get integrated into a persons view about the world. To stop the symptoms of PTSD the cognitive explanation suggests that people must process their traumatic experiences and integrate them into their world views, once they have thought about their experience the responses associated with it will go. ... • 10. Benefits Of Insurance And Self Insured Employers When it comes to explaining fully insured versus self insured employers it is important that we have an accurate understanding of the definitions of and differences between the two. According to benefits communication expert Jennifer Benz of Benz Communications in San Francisco If an employer sponsored plan is fully insured, the insurance company is ultimately responsible for the health care costs and the employer pays premiums. If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus administration fees. There are different risks involved with both types of plans. Typically, smaller companies with fewer employees opt for fully insured plans and larger companies with 5000 or more employees opt to be self insured. According to the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) in 2008, 88 percent of workers in firms with 3 199 employees were in fully insured plans and 89 percent of workers employed in firms with 5000 or more employees were in self insured plans. Advocate and serve and inspire evangelists are the two practices that stand out. They write about the paradox of the public s desire for public services, coupled with their resistance to government intervention. When nonprofits are successful in advocating within the government sphere, they expand opportunities through means such as: increased government funding, tax breaks, changes to tax codes, policy changes, raised awareness, and, ultimately, changes to public behavior. These results allow nonprofits the opportunity to maximize their impact, therefore fulfilling the public need while keeping the government seemingly uninvolved. Regardless of one s beliefs on integrating advocacy and service, it is difficult to dispute that social aliments we face today stem from a deeper issue within the infrastructure of our society. When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. A Correlation Between Emotion Focused Coping With Test Anxiety And Age Motivation can come from a variety of factors in an individual s life, stress is one of those factors that can have either a positive or a negative effect (Deckers, 2014; Heiman, 2004). Stress can appear in an individual through physiological, psychological and behavioural symptoms (Deckers, 2014). Deckers (2014) conveys that when an individual has a physiological response to stress, it is the product of hormones creating the symptom in the body, for example, nausea or sweating. In addition the psychological symptoms representing stress are identified through the level of stability of an individual s mind and feelings, and can be rated through measures of anxiousness, nervousness, self confidence, irritability or negativity of emotions (Deckers, 2014). Behavioural symptoms of stress can be enacted out by an individual through excessive or dysfunctional conduct, for example, through an increase in consumption of alcohol or caffeine, an intake of drugs, or poor sleeping habits (Deckers, 2014). Although the symptoms mentioned have an attached negative stigma, it does not necessarily follow that all encounters with it will result in negativity. Deckers (2014) explains that stress can be a motivator to a goal: if a problem arises in the pursuit of the goal, stress can occur, then an individual could be encouraged to overcome the situation to achieve their goal through coping. • 22. Persuasive Speech On Babysitting Many teenagers turn toward babysitting as a means of earning money. However, the first time a person babysits can be nerve wracking. Children are unimaginably important to their parents. It takes a lot of trust for a parent to put his or her child in the care and protection of a babysitter. This puts an immense amount of pressure on a babysitter to be perfect. Despite all the stress babysitting can bring, it is easy if you follow four simple rules. When first arriving at the house, it is important to ask for all the necessary contact and emergency information, so that if anything bad happened, you would know who to call and what to do. Because an emergency is a high stress situation, you could easily forget the emergency information. It is helpful to write down the information as you receive it and putting it somewhere that is readily available. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting the information and ensures that you can handle an emergency quickly and effectively. Along with emergency and contact information, ask about the child s typical schedule when they eat meals, if and/or when they take a nap, and other basic rules the parent has. Do your best to stick to these schedules, but do not force the schedule on the child. Sometimes kids get tired sooner than naptime or are not hungry at dinnertime. This is completely okay. Do not be afraid to upset the parent by not following the schedule strictly. Generally, children are unpredictable and schedules are only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do you agree with the view expressed in source three that the diplomatic situation was the main reason for Henry s failure to obtain an annulment of his marriage to Catherine by 1529? We can clearly see that there is more than one reason why Henry wanted to gain an annulment to Catherine in 1529, and that it wasn t purely down to reasons all diplomatically related. Although saying this, it s also clear that the diplomatic situation at the time was a huge contributing factor for the failure. It most definitely did slow down the progress Henry made in achieving his annulment. At the time of the annulment, it was known that the Pope was hugely influenced by Charles V, who at the time was the Holy Roman Emperor. Due to Charles role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another diplomatic situation that stacked against Henry, was the lack of allies he had, and especially the fact that he had no powerful allies to support him in his struggle, or powerful enough to oppose the Pope and Charles. With it looking that Henry had absolutely no diplomatic power or control in this situation, it was looking that he would stand almost no chance in changing the mind of the Pope and Charles into agreeing to the annulment. Although it s beginning to look like diplomatic status was the only reason that caused the failure in the annulment, there were other factors such as Wolsey. At this point in time,Wolsey was widely unpopular, especially in England. He had previously had huge influence amongst the ranks of the courtiers, but they now felt no need to obey his orders. Due to this, he justlike Henry had very few allies, and the few he did have weren t powerful enough to help him in his cause. Due to this he was faced with great issues when it came to convincing Campeggio that Henry had plausible reason to gain an annulment. Arguably the biggest fault of Wolsey, would be his very poor relations with the Vatican and the papacy. Source J says that Wolsey s only real hope at obtaining Henry s annulment would be to turn the people on Charles and gain more powerful allies such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early on in ER s marriage to FDR she was faced with the realization that her social secretary, a young beautiful woman of twenty one was having an affair with her husband. FDR then in the role of assistant secretary of the Navy (p.67) was neither discreet nor restrained about romancing his mistress in public (Gerber, 2007). There are many differing viewpoints in the United States when dealing with drug policy. Within the political arena, drug policy is a platform that many politicians base their entire campaigns upon, thus showing its importance to our society in general. Some of these modes within which drug policy is studied are in terms of harm reduction, and supply reduction. When studying the harmful effects of drugs, we must first to attempt to determine if drug abuse harms on an individual level of if it is a major cause of many societal problems that we face today. In drawing a preliminary conclusion to this question we are then able to outline the avenues of approach in dealing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that are opposed to harm reduction feel that its advocates are hypocrites that call for tougher policies in dealing with alcohol and tobacco yet in the same breath call for reductions in the penalties for illegal drug use. Opponents also believe that initiating a harm reduction policy may in fact increase the use of illegal drugs as well as the people that are seeking drug treatment. Robert J. MacCoun, is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Public policy at the University of California and author of Toward a Psychology of Harm Reduction. Professor MacCoun also supports the movement towards a harm reduction approach to drugs. He explains how the harm reduction movement emerged in Amsterdam in the 1980 s in response to mounting heath issues directly related to the use of drugs. Professor MacCoun illustrates that harm reduction is not a program that has been proven effective in the war on drugs, being constantly rejected as a viable option to present drug enforcement policy by the United States government. Professor MacCoun illustrates however that the policies that the U.S. presently has in place has failed in its ability to eliminate drug use thus causing the major harms of drug use in place. Although the East Asian financial crisis affected over ten countries, Thailand s economy is will first be primarily analyzed prior to the crash because it was the first economy to fall and essentially started the crisis. In retrospect, the complexity of the financial crisis has caused much debate on what actually started the crisis in the first place. In order to address the various positions of the East Asian financial crisis, the works of Charles Kindleberger, Krippner, and Dani Rodrik are analyzed and compared. While the crisis has many components that ultimately suggest that conjoined multiple factors are potentially to blame, these authors suggest that specific instances are the main culprit. In essence, Kindleberger states that investor and lender speculation deemed the crisis inevitable, Krippner condemns government policies, while Rodrik suggests that hyper globalization is to blame. In order to analyze the causes of the financial crisis, it is imperative to first describe Thailand s economic practices prior to 1997 chronologically. Modulation techniques that work with high switching frequencies have many commutations for the power semiconductors in a cycle of the fundamental output voltage. Multilevel inverters generate sinusoidal voltages from discrete voltage levels, and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategies accomplish this task of generating sinusoids of variable voltages and frequencies. Several techniques for the implementation of PWM for multilevel inverters have been developed. The well known high switching ... The smallest distortion is obtained when the carriers are shifted by an angle of 120°. A very common practice in industrial applications for the multilevel inverter is the injection of a third harmonic in each cell to increase the output voltage was discussed in Hammond (1997) and Hill and Harbourt (1999). Another advantageous feature of multilevel SPWM is that the effective switching frequency of the load voltage is much higher than the switching frequency of each cell, as determined by its carrier signal. This property allows a reduction in the switching frequency of each cell, thus reducing the switching losses. The advantage of the method is that it is very simple. But it has two disadvantages. The first method cannot completely eliminate the low order harmonics. Therefore the low order harmonics cause loss and high filter requirements. Female offenders with higher number of victims or higher amounts of non relating crimes are in risk of recidivism at a higher rate. According to Witt Pirelli (2016) several risk factors for sex offending to consider with female sexual offenders are as follow: Prior felony offenses Prior drug offenses Prior non sexual child victim offenses Also, female sex offenders recidivism rate is much lower for all types of crime than compare with male sex offenders, with a low rate between 1 % to 1.28% for a sexual crime.
