Terrorism And Terrorism Essay
Radicalization is a process of socialization to extremism. Radicalization processes is what lead to acts
of terrorism. It thrives in an enabling environment with a sediments of injustice, exclusion and
humiliation among the terrorists groups. Triggering factors varying in accordance to individual
experience and personal pathways to radicalization, it is due to global, sociological and political
drivers such as extreme marginalization, general decline or globalization. Hence, to analyze the
drivers of radicalization, we need to understand the collective grievances behind radicalism by making
comparisons of primary causes of radicalization which will ultimately lead to terrorism in different
terrorists groups like ISIS and LTTE, will allow us to decide if whether terrorism is primarily due to
globalization.
Terrorism is primarily due to globalization. Due to globalization, there was a widespread of
dissatisfaction, due to the very rapid changes in society, and the Western supremacy. Breeding grounds
for radicalism and terrorist recruitment emerge not because of deprivation, but rather the time at which
negative social, economic and political trends converge. Especially in the Arab world, relative
deprivation, the absence of opportunities relative to growing aspirations and expectations. Information
technology provides an interconnected nature of the world and globalization create an acute awareness
about opportunities available elsewhere. Allowing more to be more conscious

Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against
After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among
politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from
happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd
Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at
avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against
the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful
tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a
symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand
more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that
Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the
ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system.
When discussing symbolic pieces of legislation, one must clearly mark the line that
differentiates symbolic laws from effective ones. Symbolic laws can be described as those that
are enacted with much publicity, but that are not truly designed to accomplish their purported
goals (Suarez 5). Essentially, when laws are passed they should do more than talk about the
problems but must actually give the ways in which the laws will deal with the problems. Now,
the issue

Essay On How He Cheated
How he cheated and how I chose to stay Have you ever felt the feeling of finding the right guy? The
guy who fits in the puzzle? The perfect guy who fills your stomach with butterflies, the guy who you
tell all your aspirations and the only person where you lose all your inhibitions with. If you ve never
felt it. He will come, he s just there around the corner waiting for the right moment to reach you. If
you have, isn t it fantastic? Magic, sparks, although complicated, because you also need to reciprocate
the same fantastic things he makes you feel. You need to learn what he likes, what he doesn t. What
works for him and what does not. It seems like an arduous task, but the excitement and joy we feel is

Ironically and luckily for me, I haven t seen them. They planned on meeting up, I never thought that
these three words were meant to break you, Want to hang? and there, I fell apart. It was hell like. My
friends and I used to joke about how we re going straight to hell because of the meanness intact with
our personalities, but I think, I raced them there. It was infuriating and I was so anxious about my
shortcomings. Was it my fault? I wanted to cry endlessly but I remembered his promise. A few months
back, he gave me a silver commitment ring, engrossed with the words, I m willing to wait for it, and
that gave me hope. I don t want to believe that it was faux, that he wasn t really willing to wait for our
love to prosper, to solidify, or to overcome our catches. Instead, I chose to believe that promise. As I
quote Blair Waldorf again for the hundredth time, If you really want something, don t stop for anyone
or anything until you get it. My battle cry sounds a little masochistic, or completely masochistic, but I
ve decided, I ve made up my mind, and I m going to face his catch, I will stay. I was head over heels
for this guy for about a month, I had the audacity to walk up to him and talk to him, why stop now? I
always tell myself, to my friends even, that I m a strong and an independent person. So, I confronted
him, he apologized a million times, and hell I don t believe any of it. But, he made a promise, I asked
him if wants to

Randy Pausch, Speaking Skills
Randy Pausch; Speaking Strengths By Amanda Apatow Communications Paper #2 February 28th
2012 When faced with the knowledge that you are about to do something you love for the last time,
how would you react? When Randy Pausch, a virtual design professor at the University of Carnegie
Mellon was given the diagnosis of liver cancer with only a few months to live, he knew that
everything he did would be the last time he did it. Randy chose his last lecture to be an inspiring
tribute to his life and the people who made it everything he wanted it to be. His incredible speech is
delivered so full of life, that it is hard to imagine that he is practically walking to his deathbed. So
besides his predicament, what made Pausch s speech so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it is important to be direct and solid with your statements when you tell stories and give
instructions. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that
Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his siblings on
the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later in life as a
professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have originally seen the
connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story open ended until a later
time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know him prior by intriguing them
with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun and heartwarming connection. The
point of using foreshadowing and other organization techniques is to keep the brain occupied and
attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this. Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands
strong with a positive outlook on life. His ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect
while his lightheartedness gives shows us that he is at peace with his fate. Pausch involves the
audience, speaking to them directly as if he is simply in an extensively long conversation. His jokes
are sweet and good hearted. Some jokes are more general, but a few were very

The Theory Of Social Construction
A paradigm is a set of beliefs or assumptions that create the reality for a group. The values, moras, and
habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. The theory of social
construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by humans for human use. We communicate
using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or paradigms. Rhetoric is
the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available means of persuasion.
Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The play, Angels In America, by
Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect throughout the entire play. Kushner
informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with AIDS during the Reagan and Bush eras.
During this desperate time, self interest overtakes everything else, allowing the power dynamics to
become even more clear and powerful. This hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for
the unfortunate, marginalized lives of most of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing
technique, ASAAP, I will establish the act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This
fully explains each act literally and figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the meaning
behind each act. Kushner displays the battle between liberals and conservatives, not only politically,
but also personally. It is simple to see the power dynamics in Act III, Scene II when Roy scores

The Scarlet Letter Dbq
Paragraph 1. The doctrine of Primitivism, which declares people closer to nature as more noble and
pure, can be used to analyze chapter 18 of The Scarlet Letter in a manner that paints a reborn Hester
and Dimmesdale, being in the forest, as more noble and pure than that of their society of developed
Puritans. Hester Prynne, being in the wilderness, throws off the stigmatic letter sewn upon her by her
peers: So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter, and, taking it from her bosom,
threw it to a distance among the withered leaves . The scarlet letter symbolizes her place in Puritan
society, being an adulterer. The Puritans, being firm believers in predestination, never allowed Hester
to truly flourish and live, and instead, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fact is demonstrated as she casts off her letter and her stigma in society, as in the wilderness no
judgment is held against her, and thus, she is more pure and noble. Dimmesdale is able to cast aside
societal standards as well, showing affection for Hester in the forest: Do I feel joy again? cried he,
wondering at himself. Methought the germ of it was dead in me! Oh, Hester, thou art my better angel!
I seem to have flung myself sick, sin stained, and sorrow blackened down upon these forest leaves,
and to have risen up all made anew . Dimmesdale is no longer being held in guilt by those surrounding
him and isn t being slowly driven to insanity hourly by Chillingworth. The Puritan society, with such
high respect for the reverend, showed to how high of a standard he had to conform to. Remaining in
the Puritan lifestyle caused him to become ill by the day, as his guilt crept up slowly but powerfully
upon him, and Chillingworth, a symbol for his guilt, slowly tortures Dimmesdale morally. The forest
sets the reverend free from his guilt and sin, absolving and rebirthing him such that he can feel joy
once again, a noble man again, plagued by no illness, and feels once again sane and real, lest he return
to society and back to the

The Motif of Poverty Throughout Crime and Punishment by...
Poverty is an essential motif in Crime and Punishment that enables characters to expose their isolation
from society. Raskolnikov demonstrates the true effect that poverty can have on an unemployed man
in the 1860s. Razumikhin is seen as Raskolnikov s foil character that reacts to his form of poverty in
the opposite way of Raskolnikov towards society. The weight of being desperately pour effects
Marmeledov to extensive lengths that ultimately ends in his death.
Crime and Punishment revolves around Raskolnikov and his amplifying guilt after he murders the
pawnbroker, Alyona. From the beginning of the novel his poverty is displayed in his living condition,
which is further described by the yellowish dusty wall paper peeling off the ... Show more content on

It shall not be, so long as I am alive, it shall not, it shall not! I won t accept it! (Part 1. 4.). Raskolnikov
begins to alienate himself from his ex colleague, Razumikhin, although at points it is Razumikhin who
supports Raskolnikov the most. It forces Razumikhin to replace Raskolnikov in situations that should
have been left to his authority. In a situation where Raskolnikov should have reassured Dounia and
Pulcheria of their safety he waved his hand weakly to Razumikhin to cut short the flow of warm and
incoherent consolations he was addressing to his mother and sister (Part 3. 1). As Raskolnikov began
to slowly move away from any form of comfortable socialization and a growing poverty situation, his
stubbornness to contain his pride and dignity eventually builds up to the brutal murder of Alyona.
Razumikhin is in a similar financial situation as Raskolnikov. Razumikhin foils Raskolnikov in his
response to a desperate situation such as struggling poverty. He faced his struggles with a trial and
error personality. His view stood that you never reach any truth without making fourteen mistakes and
very likely a hundred and fourteen (Part 3. 1). It was in these positive outlooks that make Raskolnikov
realize how intense his isolation was becoming.

How Can Hybrid Cars Have Affected The Automobile Industry
Hybrid and electric cars have affected the automobile industry by using alternative energies other than
fuel and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. Like everything,
there are many advantages and disadvantages to having a hybrid or an electric car. The first electric
car was built in Scotland by Robert Anderson in 1839. (Berman, 2011) Over the years there were little
improvements but sometime between 1890 and 1910, there were significant improvements in the
battery technology that were made by H. Tudor, Edison, and Junger. (Berman, 2011) According to
(Berman, 2011) the first car to be labeled as a hybrid car was made by the Austrian Dr. Ferdinand
Porsche. It used an internal combustion engine that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nowadays, most modern electric cars contain a lithium ion battery. Some electric cars do still use the
lead acid battery and gas powered cars also use the lead acid battery to help start the engines. (Shahan,
2014) Like the hybrid car, the electric car has a lot of advantages to owning one as well. One of the
huge advantages to owning an electric car is that zero gas if required for the car to run. (Rinkesh,
2016) So instead of potentially spending thousands of dollars on gas each year, you could end up
spending as less as five hundred forty dollars a year to charge your vehicle. It is also possible to get
money back from the government for going green and using an electric car. (Campbell, 2014) The
electric car is also a great advantage for the environment. Since the electric car doesn t use gas and
runs on a fully electric powered engine, they are very eco friendly. They don t emit any toxic gases,
smoke, or any other fumes into the atmosphere. (Rinkesh, 2016) This makes the electric car even
better than the hybrid car because the hybrid car still produces

Does John F Kennedy Use Anaphora In Jfk Inaugural Address
In John F. Kennedy s Inaugural Address, he speaks to the citizens of the United States and other
nations around the globe. His purpose is to not only establish his own credibility as the new President
of the United States, but also to motivate his audience to change for the better and listen to his words.
Kennedy uses a confident and energetic tone for the citizens of the U.S. and those who want to find
out who the new American President is. He emphasizes his main ideas using anaphora, chiasmus,
alliteration, and abstract words, and it invokes a desire to come together as a nation and make a
difference in the world. Kennedy s speech is a monumental moment in history, and one of the most
effectual rhetorical devices he uses is anaphora. In paragraph fifteen through eighteen he says, Let
both sides explore. . . Let both sides, for the first time, formulate. . . Let both sides seek. . . Let both
sides unite. . . This is an example of anaphora because the beginning phrase repeats and ends with a
different verb. These phrases change the audience s sceptical outlook on his incredible speech,
because he fulfills his purpose of unifying the nation. This use of anaphora is well placed in his
speech. Since it is about two thirds into his address, Kennedy has already established his credibility
and the audience is willing to listen to his advice. The second reason these anaphora phrases are so
powerful is the repetition implemented. Human brains are naturally programmed to

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and moisture
out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep your home
cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down rolling
shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

Politics and Hip-Hop
Music is an art form and source of power. Many forms of music reflect culture and society, as well as,
containing political content and social message. Music as social change has been highlighted
throughout the 20th century. In the 1960s the United States saw political and socially oriented folk
music discussing the Vietnam War and other social issues. In Jamaica during the 1970s and 1980s
reggae developed out of the Ghetto s of Trench town and expressed the social unrest of the poor and
the need to over through the oppressors. The 1980 s brought the newest development in social and
political music, the emergence of hip hop and rap. This urban musical art form that was developed in
New York City has now taken over the mainstream, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, McDonald s, Coca Cola, Sprite, Nike, and other corporate giants have capitalized on this
phenomenon. Although critics of rap music and the hip hop culture seemed to be fixated on the
messages of sex, violence, and harsh language, this genre offers us a paradigm of what can be. The
potential of this art form to mend ethnic relations is substantial.
There are many political messages in every part of our live, but Hip Hop has transcended ethnic
boundaries. Because of its eclectic audience, it has the greatest opportunity to build ethnic bridges and
mend ethnic relations. Hip hop has taken hold and permeated significant regions of the world. The
clothing, music, mannerisms, and lexicon, are unmistakably the same in New York, Los Angeles,
Paris, Zurich, Milan, and Tokyo. Indeed, this culture has the potential to make it cool not to commit

Military Life Vs. Civilian Life
Military Life vs. Civilian Life When we think about the military these days, normally the first thing
that comes to mind is war. However, when we think about the civilian world the one thing that stands
out is freedom. As a result, in order to maintain that freedom we must have our military go out and
fight wars. There are many differences between our military and the civilian life; nonetheless,
similarities do exist. A few that will be discussed pertaining to military and civilian life are how
soldiers and civilian personnel are accounted for, their different clothing and their rank structure. In

How Have Cigarette Ads Changed Over The Years
While researching information for the group assignment our group found that over the year s cigarette
ads have changed tremendously. Diego decided to study ads created in the 1960 s where ads were
targeted at every marketing group possible. The ads were promoted as something everyone was doing.
Even the Flintstone cartoon characters were used in cigarette commercials. Companies promoted
cigarettes as a product that not only has a great tobacco taste, but is also quiet refreshing and soothing.
Most ads during this time period involved couples where the leading man attracted the women with
his cool refreshment of the cigarette. Other ads tried to persuade smokers to get rid of the old items
that are not working out so great such as their choice of cigarettes, and switch over to their Kool
cigarettes. Every company tried convince consumers that their cigarettes were better than the ... Show

Here, advertisements moved away from being short films as seen in the 60 s and focused solely on
their sales pitch. A lot of commercials still kept the couples romance theme, but added a catchy song
along with a nice jingle that pulled in the viewers attention. Other companies decided to include
coupons that could be used to purchase other retail items at a discounted price to draw in customers.
During the 90 s cigarette companies were forced to make the consumer aware of the hazardous issues
cigarettes could cause but were still pretty amazing to smoke. Even with customers knowing the harm
cigarettes could do to your health, people still had the urge contaminate their bodies for a puff of
nicotine. Around this decade one company decided to throw a new product into the tobacco business
by selling something to help people give up the bad habit of smoking. Little did they know, this
product would change the tobacco market over the next few

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Analysis
Imagine what would happen if a soldier invited someone to a war zone to be with them. One of the
most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of Song Tra
Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the story is told by
Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts out with a few
soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp. However, after thinking
about it, one of them, named Mark Fossie, decides to fly in his girlfriend. He eventually did and he
and her hung out together and had a good time. His girlfriend, Mary Anne Bell, was very curious
about war and weapons and things of that nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these
color references he is referring to Vietnam. Eventually, her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not blue,
though, but a bright jungle green. What the author was trying to say was that Mary became one with
the cruel, unforgiving land. This occurred when her transformation was complete and she had turned
from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to help give the reader an image of how
much she had changed, O Brien includes some really disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds
her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow,
like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one
overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important
because it gives the reader a vivid details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how
messed up this girl has become and how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before
she visited. Finally, her transformation was symbolic of the one happening to not only the soldiers, but
also to the families and people of America. This war was changing people, making the soldiers into
different people and affecting the lives of the family members who are worried and/or grief

Woolf grew up in an upper middle class, socially active, literary family in Victorian London. She had
three full siblings, two half brothers, and two half sisters. She was educated at home, becoming a
voracious reader of the books in her father s extensive library. Tragedy first afflicted the family when
Woolf s mother died in 1895, then hit again two years later, when her half sister, Stella, the caregiver
in the Stephen family, died. Woolf experienced her first bout of mental illness after her mother s death,
and she suffered from mania and severe depression for the rest of her life. Patriarchal, repressive
Victorian society did not encourage women to attend universities or to participate in intellectual
debate. Nonetheless, Woolf began publishing her first essays and reviews after 1904, the year her
father died and she and her siblings moved to the Bloomsbury area of London. Young students and
artists, drawn to the vitality and intellectual curiosity of the Stephen clan, congregated on Thursday
evenings to share their views about the world. The Bloomsbury group, as Woolf and her friends came

and art fueled the talk at their weekly salons. They even discussed homosexuality, a subject that

Research Paper On Mardi Gras
Researching Mardi Gras and everything dealing with it has broadened my horizons. I feel a little

school so I can go to parades and eat king cake. Everything means something and has a history. The
colors, floats, trinkets, cake, balls, etc. all are important to Mardi Gras. Over the past few weeks, I
have learned a lot about Mardi Gras. I have become a walking textbook. I can spit out almost any little
thing about Mardi Gras. I have become less ignorant about my culture after doing this research paper.
It has become harder to find new resources about Mardi Gras because the information starts to become
repetitive. Finding new facts about Carnival history is hard. Almost every article explains the same
things such as when Mardi Gras started, what it represents, and everything else in between. I tried to
use different types of sources but I mainly used articles from databases and two books. Although it
does not seem like a variety of sources it does not matter because they are credible and most of them

Persuasive Essay On Gay Marriage
In the monumental 2015 Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, the majority of the justices voted
that the right to marry is a fundamental right of the people, regardless of the gender of the two people
joining in matrimony. Although this current Supreme Court case is considered a landmark case for the
progression towards equality, this national debate pertaining to gay marriage has been going on since
the 1986 case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which altered a Georgia law to consider only the
constitutionality of applying the law to homosexual sodomy (Linder). The decision by this Supreme
Court reflects the decades of previous Supreme Court cases about the actual constitutionality of same
sex marriage as well as the ongoing debate between widely different viewpoints. Nevertheless, due to
the nature of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, specifically the Fourteenth Amendment, there is a
constitutional precedence for the decision to allow homosexual people to marry. In addition, the
history of cases about marriage and the recent Supreme Court case solidified the right for these people
to marry. As said by Justice Anthony Kennedy, No union is more profound than marriage, for it
embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family (Liptak). Because of the
nature and belief of the Fourteenth Amendment on equality and rights of a discriminated group of
people, the right for gay people to marry has rational and constitutional validations. According to

Tecumseh slowly transformed his brother s religious following into a political movement. In 1808
Tecumseh and the Prophet moved their village to the juncture of the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers,
where the new settlement, Prophetstown, continued to attract Indians. After the loss of much Indian
land at the Treaty of Fort Wayne, Tecumseh gradually eclipsed his brother as the primary leader of the
movement. He traveled throughout the Midwest urging tribes to form a political confederacy to
prevent any further erosion of their lands. In November 1811, while Tecumseh was in the South
attempting to recruit the Creeks into his confederacy, U.S. forces marched against Prophetstown. In
the subsequent Battle of the Tippecanoe they defeated the Prophet, burned the settlement, and
destroyed the Indians food supplies. After returning from the South Tecumseh tried to rebuild his
shattered confederacy. But when the War of 1812 broke out, he withdrew to Michigan where he
assisted the British in the capture of Detroit and led pro British Indians in small actions in southern
Michigan and northern Ohio (Fort Meigs). When William Henry Harrison invaded Upper Canada,
Tecumseh reluctantly accompanied the British retreat. He was killed by American forces at the Battle
of the Thames on October 5, 1813. Although they never found the body of

Analysis Paper on Doubt
A Bond as Powerful as Certainty A person s doubts can cloud their judgment on certain tasks at hand.
On the other hand, a person s certainty can blind someone from the truth. The argument ofDoubt
versus Certainty is relevant today in the sense that it is the main argument for and against religion. The
theory of doubt can also be used in literary works for a number of reasons. In John Patrick Shanley s
movie/play Doubt, the theme of certainty versus doubt is shown throughout the story to signify the
importance of characterization and to symbolize the importance that a person must be cautious of the
people around them.
In the movie Doubt, the idea of certainty versus doubt is a central theme to the story. Doubt and
certainty are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sister Aloysius does not have any evidence yet she is certain that Father Flynn is guilty. Shanley is
illustrating that one does not need evidence to be confident about a given claim. In this way, Shanley
illustrates through the concept of doubt that a person can be right about a given suspicion without any
proof.
The significance behind certainty versus doubt in Doubt has to do with the characterization of both
Sister James and Sister Aloysius. The characters stance on certainty versus doubt divides the
characters personalities. Sister Aloysius has a confident and strong willed character throughout the
story while Sister James is shown to have a very insecure personality and is usually shown to be
unclear about situations. This characterization is shown when Sister James and Sister Aloysius talk
about William London s bloody nose. Sister Aloysius is convinced that William London s bloody nose
was self induced while Sister James believes that William is innocent. Sister Aloysius suspicion about
William is proven to be right when William is heading home, He has a bloody handkerchief to his
nose. He s in a good mood. He takes the handkerchief away. The nose has stopped bleeding. He
smiles. He lights a cigarette. (Shanley Script, pg 18) This foreshadows the reactions taken by both
Sister James and Sister Aloysius when it comes to determining Father Flynn s credibility. Shanley
does this to give the reader an idea of how Sisters James

With so many different ways to go about doing the same thing, it s important to find the way you re
comfortable with. Being an engineer, I decided to make a 3D prototype model of the sword Ike uses.
When it comes to making something fictional or incredibly difficult to replicate, following the
prototyping process can help you save time and money in the future. In the words of Mr. John Ouimet,
Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore
engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps
with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the
process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant
to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be
applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where
you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed.
Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials
are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. The
type of machine you use will affect the parts quality. With a higher end printer, you can print

What s so Amazing About Grace Book Report Essay

What s So Amazing about Grace? Book Report What s So Amazing about Grace? is a book written by
Philip Yancey. It begins with a twisted story of a prostitute living on the streets. She is unable to feed
her two year old child and has to find another way to earn money. She could not think of any other
alternatives and began selling her child out for prostitution. She could make much more money this
way than she could in one night. The woman began counseling and when asked if she had ever
considered going to church, her response was that attending church would only make her feel worse
about herself. Yancey describes Earth as a place full of ungrace . This is a term that ... Show more

Because Jesus extended grace to all, we should do the same. There are none who are not deserving or
worthy of our grace. This is important for us to remember. It is true that grace does not come easy, and
that it is not necessarily easy to give. Grace is not a small display of kindness; it is a sacrifice and a
gift to others. Just as Jesus gave us the gift of grace by suffering and dying on the cross for us, we
should be able to give gifts of grace at our own expense to others. I very much enjoyed this book and
was spiritually moved by it. I agree with most of what Philip Yancey has to say about lack of grace not
only in the church, but in the world also. In today s day and age, it seems that everyone is in it for
themselves. Most do not take the time of day to stop and give their grace to the needy. It helped to
strengthen my view that all of deserving of grace and that we, as Christians, should be reading to give
our grace to others. While I do support that idea that we need to cure the world of ungrace , I do not
feel that we need to do this in order to earn God s grace. This is a view that Yancey supports in the
book and I do not happen to agree with it. Grace is in fact, a gift and it is not something we have to
earn by giving other s grace. By following God s example, we should also give others this same grace
God gave us, but it is not a requirement in order for us to receive His grace. Overall, I feel spiritually

Flies Of God Research Paper
The Assemblies of God is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations, with 57 million adherents
worldwide. It was organized in 1914 to promote unity and doctrinal stability among groups that had
been influenced by the Pentecostal revivals of the early 1900s, revivals which were the result of a
desire to see an increase in God s power in churches and individuals. Many people spent long hours in
prayer, seeking a fresh infusion of the Spirit. Following the teachings of Charles Parham, these people
were expecting speaking in tongues as an evidence of the Holy Spirit s baptism. The first popularly
acknowledged revival was at Azusa Street in Los Angeles, 1906 1909. From that movement, several
churches were formed, and in April 1914, meetings were held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which led to
the formation of the Assemblies of God. Eudorus Bell, formerly a Southern Baptist preacher, was
appointed as the first chairman of the denomination. The origin of the Assemblies of God church is
1988. The Assemblies of God believes that the word inspires, There is one true God, eternally existent

On the surface level, all the games presented for this assignment are directly applicable to the
everyday lives that the student gamers or their parents and guardians are exposed at school or in life.
While some of the games were developed to be more deliberate in their approach to reach certain
content or social agenda, these games could easily be incorporated into school curricula if planned
carefully. In fact, a couple of games in this week s offerings could be a more than relevant supplement
to certain core subjects and specific units of instruction and still be engaging and challenging enough
to hold their attention to think critically. Additionally, one or two of the games allow for the student
gamer to take learning into their own hands and create games that help themselves and their peers. Yet

How Can Help Change Our Perspective On Life
Gifts come in all ways, shapes and forms. Sometimes you don t even recognize that something or
someone has been giving you a gift, you only know that it makes you feel happy. Happiness in itself is
a gift that many different objects, people or places can give to someone. There are many different
things that give me happiness within one day, that is for certain. But there are irreplaceable continuous
gifts that live with us every single day, our animals. Whether you have a dog, cat, horse, fish, ferret
(the list goes on) everyone has felt some sort of happiness or thankfulness for their animals. Not only
do animals give back to us every day, but we also give back to the animals which can help change our
perspective on life and become a little bit more selfless. This new creature solely relies on you to feed
it, nurture it, shelter it, and love it for the rest of its life. That alone can change someone to be more
selfless and responsible because they have to make sure that their animal comes first in all that they do
so that it is as happy as possible. Knowing that you have to take care of this animal can make you
more compassionate too, it could open up a soft spot you may not have had before, especially if it was
your first animal. This is your gift to the animal, giving it the best life you possibly can. Animals can
help people become more responsible because they have something else they have to stay clean for,
clean up after, and take care of. We become more

Chivalry in Arthurian Legend Essay
Chivalry in Arthurian Legend
Merriam Webster s on line dictionary defines chivalry as the system, spirit, or customs of medieval
knighthood. As Leon Gautier, author of Chivalry, defines this system and spirit of knighthood by
identifying rules of chivalry, two of which are well illustrated in Lanval, TheWife of Bath s Tale, and
The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnel: Thou shalt never lie, and shall remain faithful to thy
pledged word, and Thou shalt be generous, and give largess to everyone (qtd. in Chivalry). All three
stories seem to suggest the predominant theme of a knight living up to his word. This is shown by the
fact that, in each story, the knight s oath is taken very seriously, is treated as a contract, and is ... Show

It is interesting to note that King Arthur s life depends on two things: his remaining faithful to his
word, and Sir Gromer, also a knight bound by the code of chivalry, remaining true to his word. If
Arthur does not trust that Sir Gromer will honor the code and spare his life, it would seem
unreasonable for him to agree to such a deal. In the end, we find that both men remain honorable, thus
upholding this aspect of the code of knighthood.
Similarly, the knight, in the story told by the Wife of Bath, is faced with the punishment of death for
the crime of rape. To save his life, he swears to the queen that he shall return within a year and a day
with the correct answer to her question: What thing [is it] that women most desiren (911). Again, it is
difficult to believe that the queen would have allowed this knight to run off, unpunished for his crime,
unless she believed he would remain true to his word. It seems that it would have been very easy for
this knight to save his life simply by disappearing. Yet he lived up to his oath.
In Lanval, the knight is asked to make a promise to his ami not to let anyone know of their affair.
Although Lanval does not remain true to his word, the importance of the oath is made clear in the
simple fact that his love trusts his word implicitly. It is important to note that, were it not for the
implied oath of a knight to remain loyal at all costs to his king, Lanval would have kept his promise

Does The Baptism Debate
INTRODUCTION
I am doing my term paper on The Baptism Debate. We were all given a choice of what we wanted to
do for our topic and I decided on this debate because I kind of knew a little about this subject and
wanted to see the different views included. There is a slight bias to this subject matter because of my
own personal experiences in my life. Throughout Scripture, Christians have all agreed that it is God s
will that all must be baptized. It has been commanded by Him and not considered an optional
experience for individuals. Learning about the two different viewpoints, that I will express in this
paper, have brought out a great argument about when and how a human being should be baptized. I
am now going to talk about the history of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My pastor asked them the questions on my behalf and I was washed clean and given the opportunity
to let my life be guided by Christ our savior. I still believe I would have this stance on the argument
because this is what scripture is full of. I don t agree with the thought that The Believer s Baptism
View goes against the church tradition. There is something to be said about how when a child is born
into this world, they bring a natural sin with them. They need to be cleansed with the Holy Spirit at
baptism. I do understand where some people will say that parents making a decision for you is not
right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing to follow Christ. The counter
argument that caught my eye to back up my view though was how that gives the impression that
Salvation is a matter of God responding to human choice. The infant baptism rather illustrates how
God has full control over our salvation. That is where I truly and firmly stick by the Infant Baptism
View. The next section will follow an outside example of how this applies in my own

Pros And Cons Of Unveiling Secularism
Unveiling Secularism
I swear by my religion. I will die for it. But it is my personal affair. The state has nothing to do with it.
The state would look after your secular welfare, health, communications, foreign relations, currency
and so on, but not your or my religion. (Gandhi). When debating the word secularism , many people
will dispute that the public has become less religious and stopped believing in God. They assume that
a secular government is an anti religious one; a government that aims to reject religions. In fact,
secularism is the belief that religion should not be part of the affairs of the state or part of public
education. (YourDictionary). In other words, secularism is the belief that government and religion don
t influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of secularism appears a little bit strange for some people and some countries. At first, fanatic
people refuse to make any change to their lives and consider this concept (secularism) illegal and will
separate them from God: they think that secularism will abolish religions and decrease the number of
religious people. They believe that the only law is the law of God. For example, homosexual couples
are free to do whatever they want (they become able to marry for instance) due to the law of
secularism. Thus, those religious people take this example to oppose secularism because for them
homosexuality is a sin. In addition, separating religion from the state is a difficult task as Elizabeth
Shakman Hurd mentioned: The creation of the category of religion and its demarcation from politics is
a highly politicized decision that is not subject to a final settlement, and the pretense of a final
settlement exacerbates international conflict rather than diminishing it. ( Hurd 235). The most
difficulty that faces secular people is that they are assailed by all the religions because those secular
people are minorities and cannot afford the pressure imposed on them. In view of this fact, each
secular human being will be neglected and considered as enemy which is not the case. Therefore,
being a secular person may lead to different hitches. On the other hand, some secular people try to
trigger problems and conflicts between religious people and themselves. So even in secularism you
find extreme positions that lead to conflict like the militant secularism. As Simone Chambers said that
we have three types of secularism: militant, restrictive and open secularism. What makes secularism
difficult is the Militant secularism because it is mistrustful and suspicious of

How Does Mr. Darcy Change Throughout The Novel
In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell
you how ardently I admire and love you (Austen 124). With these lines, Jane Austen transformed one
of her most well know works, Pride and Prejudice, into an epic 19th century love story that is still read
today. The novel focuses on young Elizabeth Bennett and her rambunctious family. As the story
progresses different characters are introduced, including Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Mr. Darcy displays
the gracious and inferior qualities of the English aristocrats in the early 19th century. At the beginning
of the novel Mr. Darcy is perceived as very prejudice and private, yet throughout the novel he evolves

Darcy is extremely presumptuous the first time he is introduced. He appears to be very impudent
towards Elizabeth and her family when he appeared at Mr. Bingley s party. Mr. Bingley and Darcy are
very close friends, and Bingley seems to be the only person that Darcy is close too. Darcy originated
from a fortune of money, so his upbringing was luxurious compared to the Bennetts . He believes that
the way the Bennett family present themselves to others is childish and ill mannered. Mr. Darcy, later,
places Elizabeth into the same category he labeled her family in. Unfortunately, when Mr. Darcy does
label Elizabeth so cruelly and treat her with none other than disrespect, he begins to fall in love with
Elizabeth s spitfire of an attitude. Elizabeth confronts Mr. Darcy about his bloating ego when, in turn,
he responds where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation
(Austen 118). Darcy begins to stand up for himself against Elizabeth s jabs at his egotistical
pigheadedness. He becomes a tad less presumptuous and more understanding that he has not exactly
been the most grateful of young Elizabeth s attention. Darcy becomes more audacious and
overconfident the more times Elizabeth and him meet at parties. He confronts Elizabeth after a few
bickering disputes and asks for her hand in marriage. Instead of swooning and falling at Mr.Darcy s
feet she refuses him and belittles his personality. Mr. Darcy just assumed that Elizabeth would accept

Sexual, Sexuality, And Sexuality
As mentioned earlier, when a child is born, they are born with a sexual aim. That sexual aim is
considered to be autoerotic and expresses itself in an infantile manner. This infantile sexuality, or
autoerotic sexuality, is a masturbatory expression of sexuality. The child gets pleasure for themselves
from themselves. This sexual aim is unconscious. The child doesn t know why what they are doing
feels pleasurable, but it instinctively brings them some form of pleasure, so they find comfort in it.
This pleasure is the libido s substitution for the normal genital release that isn t yet organically or
physiologically possible in the child. It is a passive pleasure where the child finds stimulation of the
oral erotogenic zone by incorporating the object into itself. Freud says the child does not make use of
an extraneous body for his sucking, but prefers a part of his own skin because it is more convenient,
because it makes him independent of the external world, which he is not yet able to control (Three

stimulation in the erotogenic zone by an external stimulus which removes that sensation by producing

Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s...
Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They, as
well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of
traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the
genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes
of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are

He questions Dowell s mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her indiscretions.
Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as good people. He also
wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in
which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46).
If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons
why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed
all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue
thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. At
the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears to understand
the deliberate complexities of the novel.
Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself, heading
toward disaster (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the proverbial
brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the world at large.
Ford also exposes the evil kernel within the hearts of mankind. To others, these are good people, but

Edgar Allan Poe Strengths And Weaknesses Essay
Strength vs. Weakness Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Cask of Amontillado , can be categorized as
an American Gothic literary piece due to Poe s selection of elements introduced by the narrator, whom
s name is later revealed as Montresor, regarding the gloomy, mysterious, suspenseful and terror filled
atmosphere. These elements can be defined as tropes. Specific characteristics of the genre are depicted
throughout the plot by the narrations provided, such being the greatly spacious and empty palazzo of
the narrator, the subterranean passages, the catacombs, the human remains, and the torches, or also
knows as flambeaus. When analyzing Poe s male protagonist and narrator, Montresor, the author s
disposition is definitely a quality to take under consideration. Poe was the son of actors, David and
Elizabeth Poe, so due to constant traveling, his father abandoned him and his ... Show more content on

It is also believed that Poe could have had a mental condition as stated in an online article by Mark
Canada, Several incidents, including a suicide attempt, suggest that Poe suffered from some kind of
mental illness, and the modern researcher Kay Redfield Jamison has presented compelling evidence
that he was manic depressive. . Another statement by Canada shows as well the concept that Poe s
psychological status affected his writings, ...he tirelessly explored subjects such as self destruction,
madness, and imagination in works such as The Imp of the Perverse , William Wilson , and Ulalume .
A reader s erudition on statements as such can lead to a connection to the narrator s disposition. It is
evident that Poe portrays many qualities and characteristics of himself and his life amongst his

Use Of Imagery In Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover
The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen is a short story that takes place during World War II in
London, England. The main character, Mrs. Drover travels by herself to the bombed city to return to
her boarded up house. While gathering belongings, Mrs. Drover notices particular and out of place
that begins to haunt her. The reader witnesses her mental state deteriorate as she begins dreaming of
safety. The use of vivid imagery and flashbacks in The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen develops
the mysterious and paranoid mood throughout the piece of literature.
During World War II, it was common for people living in the city of London to flee into the country to
avoid the bombings. Mrs. Drover is an example of this, and travels to London by herself ... Show

Drover finds a letter addressed to her, the letter, which bore no stamp, (Bowen 1084) that must have
been recently placed on the table, as other objects wore a film of another kind; and the only ventilation
being the chimney, (Bowen 1084). All the objects in the house were covered in dust, yet this letter had
none on it. She begins to wonder how did the letter appeared on the table; the caretaker is away and
the letter should have been forwarded to her residence in the country. Mrs. Drover reads the letter in
her old bedroom, which she discovers the letter was from her fiance that was presumed dead during
the first World War. In terror she remembers what he left her, that cut of the button on her palm of
hand was, principally, what she was to carry away, (Bowen 1085). Her fiance was aggressive and
physically hurt Mrs. Drover to leave a memory of him.. In panic, Mrs. Drover rushes to finish her
tasks in the house as she wonders how he knows she is there and when will he come. These thoughts
are running through her head, as well as the reader s head. Mrs. Drover becomes haunted with
memories she has of him. The letter is signed with by K so the reader is unaware of who the fiance is
and his past; however, based upon Mrs. Drover s reaction, the reader can conclude that this man is
someone to be feared. More and more panic sets in as time passes, Mrs. Drover not knowing the set
time they are to meet. The rain and the damaged, dark house aids her paranoia as she begins to believe
she is not alone, and is concerned when hearing noises. Mrs. Drover wants to escape back to the
country as soon as possible to be with her family, in safety away from the dead

Joseph Rudyard Kipling and his Works
Rudyard Kipling
If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten. Rudyard Kipling. Rudyard
Kipling was born on December 30, 1865 at Bombay, India. Kipling spent the first six years of his
idyllic life in India until his family moved back to England in 1871. After six months of living in
England his parents abandoned him and his three year old sister, leaving them with the Holloway
family, which in turn mistreated him physically and psychologically, this left him with a sense of
betrayal and scars mentally, but it was then Kipling started to grow a love for literature. Between 1878
and 1882 he attended the United Services College at Westward Ho in north Devon. The College was a
new and very rough boarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
England refused to provide for these men, finding it easier to talk about the glory of their soldiers
rather than deliver them sustenance. Kipling s tone is grave and melancholy but also shows a sense of
rage and bitterness that coursed through his lines as well as his life. Kipling was more negative than
most poets at the time and it is no surprise this poem was far less popular.
Kiplings poem boots is about the endless marching done in Africa. Kipling explains how the soldier
would march for days, even weeks with no one to fight, and because the war was still on the endless
marching with nothing to do but stare at the boots in front of you would drive you crazy. We can stick
out unger, thirst, an weariness,/But not not not not the chronic sight of em /Boot boots boots boots
movin up an down again (21 23). Kipling even says, staring at the boots, not knowing when the next
battle will be is even worse than being shot at. Kipling uses repetition in this poem to give the reader a
sense of monotony. Kipling s poem says to count the bullets in the bandoliers and do not let your eyes
drop or the enemy will get on top of you. It is not altogether too bad during the day because of one s
friends, but at night the long strings of forty million are too much to bear. Soldiers marched six weeks
down in Hell and can assert that there is no dark, or devils, or anything else only the

Mental Health Treatment Of Mental Illnesses
Approximately 20% of all children show at least minimal impairment from a mental health illness
(Odar, C. o., Canter, K., Roberts, M. m. 2013). Around 31% of girls and 42% of boys between the
ages of 9 and 16 years old meet the criteria of at least one mental health illness (Costello, E. J.,
Mustillo, S., Erkanli, A., Keeler, G., Angold, A. 2003). Some of these illnesses may include
schizophrenia, bipolar disease, depression, etc. These illnesses may require continuous care and
treatment for many years and can be very costly. There are many problems when it comes to the
treatment of mental illnesses. Some of these problems are access, cost and funding, and the delivery of
care.
The first problem with mental health treatment is access. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cost of outpatient treatment is expensive. Most psychiatrists offices and hospitals require high
copayments and deductibles if the treatment is covered under the patient s insurance plan. But
according to a report done by the Center for Disease Control, people with serious mental illnesses are
less likely to have health insurance, so they would be required to pay even more money out of pocket
if they decide to receive treatment (Cohn, J. 2015). The funding required for treatment is also a big
issue. In the early 20th century, insurance companies did not cover mental health care at all.
Eventually, they started adding mental health coverage, and by the 1980s, managed care was
introduced and was lowering costs (Cohn, J. 2015). But patients were concerned that these lower
prices were compromising the quality of care.
The quality and delivery of care is another mental health problem in the healthcare system. Due to the
Mental Health Parity Act of 2008, insurers are required to provide the same coverage for both mental
health treatment and medical/surgical treatment (Burns, J 2014). This could cause insurers to limit the
length of stay for all patients in hospitals or residential care and could cause more readmissions to
occur. It could also cause all patients to receive insufficient treatment.
Implications
Having little access to treatment or care can affect both patients and providers. It makes it harder for
patients to receive

  • 3. Dodd Frank As An Effective Measure Against After more than seven years after the financial crisis, there is a great debate among politicians and economists as to what the best policies are to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again. So in the aftermath of the financial meltdown, Congress passed the Dodd Frank Act which brought in multitude of financial stipulations and rules that were aimed at avoiding another disaster. There are some who see Dodd Frank as an effective measure against the causes that led to the 2008 crisis. They view Dodd Frank as a comprehensive and powerful tool to curtail systemic risk. On the other hand, there are critics who see Dodd Frank as a symbolic piece of legislation that does nothing more than give lip service to those who demand more stringent regulations. After a careful examination of the Dodd Frank, it can be shown that Dodd Frank is not a symbolic piece of legislation, but a law that will give the government the ability to mitigate the chances of systemic risk from tanking the financial system. When discussing symbolic pieces of legislation, one must clearly mark the line that differentiates symbolic laws from effective ones. Symbolic laws can be described as those that are enacted with much publicity, but that are not truly designed to accomplish their purported goals (Suarez 5). Essentially, when laws are passed they should do more than talk about the problems but must actually give the ways in which the laws will deal with the problems. Now, the issue ... Randy Pausch, Speaking Skills Randy Pausch; Speaking Strengths By Amanda Apatow Communications Paper #2 February 28th 2012 When faced with the knowledge that you are about to do something you love for the last time, how would you react? When Randy Pausch, a virtual design professor at the University of Carnegie Mellon was given the diagnosis of liver cancer with only a few months to live, he knew that everything he did would be the last time he did it. Randy chose his last lecture to be an inspiring tribute to his life and the people who made it everything he wanted it to be. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So it is important to be direct and solid with your statements when you tell stories and give instructions. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his siblings on the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later in life as a professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have originally seen the connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story open ended until a later time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know him prior by intriguing them with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun and heartwarming connection. The point of using foreshadowing and other organization techniques is to keep the brain occupied and attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this. Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands strong with a positive outlook on life. His ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect while his lightheartedness gives shows us that he is at peace with his fate. The values, moras, and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. The theory of social construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by humans for human use. We communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available means of persuasion. Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The play, Angels In America, by Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect throughout the entire play. Kushner informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with AIDS during the Reagan and Bush eras. During this desperate time, self interest overtakes everything else, allowing the power dynamics to become even more clear and powerful. This hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for the unfortunate, marginalized lives of most of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing technique, ASAAP, I will establish the act, scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This fully explains each act literally and figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the meaning behind each act. • 7. The Scarlet Letter Dbq Paragraph 1. The doctrine of Primitivism, which declares people closer to nature as more noble and pure, can be used to analyze chapter 18 of The Scarlet Letter in a manner that paints a reborn Hester and Dimmesdale, being in the forest, as more noble and pure than that of their society of developed Puritans. Hester Prynne, being in the wilderness, throws off the stigmatic letter sewn upon her by her peers: So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter, and, taking it from her bosom, threw it to a distance among the withered leaves . The scarlet letter symbolizes her place in Puritan society, being an adulterer. The Puritans, being firm believers in predestination, never allowed Hester to truly flourish and live, and instead, ... Oh, Hester, thou art my better angel! I seem to have flung myself sick, sin stained, and sorrow blackened down upon these forest leaves, and to have risen up all made anew . Dimmesdale is no longer being held in guilt by those surrounding him and isn t being slowly driven to insanity hourly by Chillingworth. The Puritan society, with such high respect for the reverend, showed to how high of a standard he had to conform to. Remaining in the Puritan lifestyle caused him to become ill by the day, as his guilt crept up slowly but powerfully upon him, and Chillingworth, a symbol for his guilt, slowly tortures Dimmesdale morally. His purpose is to not only establish his own credibility as the new President of the United States, but also to motivate his audience to change for the better and listen to his words. Kennedy uses a confident and energetic tone for the citizens of the U.S. and those who want to find out who the new American President is. He emphasizes his main ideas using anaphora, chiasmus, alliteration, and abstract words, and it invokes a desire to come together as a nation and make a difference in the world. Let both sides, for the first time, formulate. . . Let both sides seek. . . Let both sides unite. . . This is an example of anaphora because the beginning phrase repeats and ends with a different verb. These phrases change the audience s sceptical outlook on his incredible speech, because he fulfills his purpose of unifying the nation. This use of anaphora is well placed in his speech. Since it is about two thirds into his address, Kennedy has already established his credibility and the audience is willing to listen to his advice. The second reason these anaphora phrases are so powerful is the repetition implemented. Human brains are naturally programmed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hodges, the majority of the justices voted that the right to marry is a fundamental right of the people, regardless of the gender of the two people joining in matrimony. The decision by this Supreme Court reflects the decades of previous Supreme Court cases about the actual constitutionality of same sex marriage as well as the ongoing debate between widely different viewpoints. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, specifically the Fourteenth Amendment, there is a constitutional precedence for the decision to allow homosexual people to marry. On the other hand, a person s certainty can blind someone from the truth. The argument ofDoubt versus Certainty is relevant today in the sense that it is the main argument for and against religion. The theory of doubt can also be used in literary works for a number of reasons. In John Patrick Shanley s movie/play Doubt, the theme of certainty versus doubt is shown throughout the story to signify the importance of characterization and to symbolize the importance that a person must be cautious of the people around them. In the movie Doubt, the idea of certainty versus doubt is a central theme to the story. Doubt and certainty are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sister Aloysius does not have any evidence yet she is certain that Father Flynn is guilty. Shanley is illustrating that one does not need evidence to be confident about a given claim. In this way, Shanley illustrates through the concept of doubt that a person can be right about a given suspicion without any proof. The significance behind certainty versus doubt in Doubt has to do with the characterization of both Sister James and Sister Aloysius. The characters stance on certainty versus doubt divides the characters personalities. Sister Aloysius has a confident and strong willed character throughout the story while Sister James is shown to have a very insecure personality and is usually shown to be unclear about situations. This characterization is shown when Sister James and Sister Aloysius talk about William London s bloody nose. Sister Aloysius is convinced that William London s bloody nose was self induced while Sister James believes that William is innocent. Sister Aloysius suspicion about William is proven to be right when William is heading home, He has a bloody handkerchief to his nose. He s in a good mood. He takes the handkerchief away. The nose has stopped bleeding. He smiles. He lights a cigarette. (Shanley Script, pg 18) This foreshadows the reactions taken by both Sister James and Sister Aloysius when it comes to determining Father Flynn s credibility. Being an engineer, I decided to make a 3D prototype model of the sword Ike uses. When it comes to making something fictional or incredibly difficult to replicate, following the prototyping process can help you save time and money in the future. In the words of Mr. John Ouimet, Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed. Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. Book Report What s So Amazing about Grace? is a book written by Philip Yancey. It begins with a twisted story of a prostitute living on the streets. She is unable to feed her two year old child and has to find another way to earn money. She could not think of any other alternatives and began selling her child out for prostitution. She could make much more money this way than she could in one night. There are none who are not deserving or worthy of our grace. This is important for us to remember. It is true that grace does not come easy, and that it is not necessarily easy to give. Grace is not a small display of kindness; it is a sacrifice and a gift to others. Just as Jesus gave us the gift of grace by suffering and dying on the cross for us, we should be able to give gifts of grace at our own expense to others. I very much enjoyed this book and was spiritually moved by it. I agree with most of what Philip Yancey has to say about lack of grace not only in the church, but in the world also. In today s day and age, it seems that everyone is in it for themselves. Most do not take the time of day to stop and give their grace to the needy. It helped to strengthen my view that all of deserving of grace and that we, as Christians, should be reading to give our grace to others. While I do support that idea that we need to cure the world of ungrace , I do not feel that we need to do this in order to earn God s grace. This is a view that Yancey supports in the book and I do not happen to agree with it. Grace is in fact, a gift and it is not something we have to earn by giving other s grace. By following God s example, we should also give others this same grace God gave us, but it is not a requirement in order for us to receive His grace. Overall, I feel spiritually strengthened by ... It was organized in 1914 to promote unity and doctrinal stability among groups that had been influenced by the Pentecostal revivals of the early 1900s, revivals which were the result of a desire to see an increase in God s power in churches and individuals. Many people spent long hours in prayer, seeking a fresh infusion of the Spirit. Following the teachings of Charles Parham, these people were expecting speaking in tongues as an evidence of the Holy Spirit s baptism. The first popularly acknowledged revival was at Azusa Street in Los Angeles, 1906 1909. From that movement, several churches were formed, and in April 1914, meetings were held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which led to the formation of the Assemblies of God. Happiness in itself is a gift that many different objects, people or places can give to someone. There are many different things that give me happiness within one day, that is for certain. But there are irreplaceable continuous gifts that live with us every single day, our animals. Whether you have a dog, cat, horse, fish, ferret (the list goes on) everyone has felt some sort of happiness or thankfulness for their animals. Not only do animals give back to us every day, but we also give back to the animals which can help change our perspective on life and become a little bit more selfless. This new creature solely relies on you to feed it, nurture it, shelter it, and love it for the rest of its life. That alone can change someone to be more selfless and responsible because they have to make sure that their animal comes first in all that they do so that it is as happy as possible. As Leon Gautier, author of Chivalry, defines this system and spirit of knighthood by identifying rules of chivalry, two of which are well illustrated in Lanval, TheWife of Bath s Tale, and The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnel: Thou shalt never lie, and shall remain faithful to thy pledged word, and Thou shalt be generous, and give largess to everyone (qtd. in Chivalry). It is interesting to note that King Arthur s life depends on two things: his remaining faithful to his word, and Sir Gromer, also a knight bound by the code of chivalry, remaining true to his word. If Arthur does not trust that Sir Gromer will honor the code and spare his life, it would seem unreasonable for him to agree to such a deal. In the end, we find that both men remain honorable, thus upholding this aspect of the code of knighthood. Similarly, the knight, in the story told by the Wife of Bath, is faced with the punishment of death for the crime of rape. To save his life, he swears to the queen that he shall return within a year and a day with the correct answer to her question: What thing [is it] that women most desiren (911). Again, it is difficult to believe that the queen would have allowed this knight to run off, unpunished for his crime, unless she believed he would remain true to his word. It seems that it would have been very easy for this knight to save his life simply by disappearing. Yet he lived up to his oath. In Lanval, the knight is asked to make a promise to his ami not to let anyone know of their affair. Although Lanval does not remain true to his word, the importance of the oath is made clear in the simple fact that his love trusts his word implicitly. It is important to note that, were it not for the implied oath of a knight to remain loyal at all costs to his king, Lanval would have kept his promise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is something to be said about how when a child is born into this world, they bring a natural sin with them. They need to be cleansed with the Holy Spirit at baptism. I do understand where some people will say that parents making a decision for you is not right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing to follow Christ. The state would look after your secular welfare, health, communications, foreign relations, currency and so on, but not your or my religion. (Gandhi). When debating the word secularism , many people will dispute that the public has become less religious and stopped believing in God. They assume that a secular government is an anti religious one; a government that aims to reject religions. The idea of secularism appears a little bit strange for some people and some countries. At first, fanatic people refuse to make any change to their lives and consider this concept (secularism) illegal and will separate them from God: they think that secularism will abolish religions and decrease the number of religious people. They believe that the only law is the law of God. For example, homosexual couples are free to do whatever they want (they become able to marry for instance) due to the law of secularism. Thus, those religious people take this example to oppose secularism because for them homosexuality is a sin. In addition, separating religion from the state is a difficult task as Elizabeth Shakman Hurd mentioned: The creation of the category of religion and its demarcation from politics is a highly politicized decision that is not subject to a final settlement, and the pretense of a final settlement exacerbates international conflict rather than diminishing it. ( Hurd 235). The most difficulty that faces secular people is that they are assailed by all the religions because those secular people are minorities and cannot afford the pressure imposed on them. In view of this fact, each secular human being will be neglected and considered as enemy which is not the case. Therefore, being a secular person may lead to different hitches. On the other hand, some secular people try to trigger problems and conflicts between religious people and themselves. So even in secularism you find extreme positions that lead to conflict like the militant secularism. As Simone Chambers said that we have three types of secularism: militant, restrictive and open secularism. Darcy originated from a fortune of money, so his upbringing was luxurious compared to the Bennetts . As time went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46). If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. A reader s erudition on statements as such can lead to a connection to the narrator s disposition. Drover finds a letter addressed to her, the letter, which bore no stamp, (Bowen 1084) that must have been recently placed on the table, as other objects wore a film of another kind; and the only ventilation being the chimney, (Bowen 1084). All the objects in the house were covered in dust, yet this letter had none on it. She begins to wonder how did the letter appeared on the table; the caretaker is away and the letter should have been forwarded to her residence in the country. Mrs. Drover reads the letter in her old bedroom, which she discovers the letter was from her fiance that was presumed dead during the first World War. In terror she remembers what he left her, that cut of the button on her palm of hand was, principally, what she was to carry away, (Bowen 1085). Her fiance was aggressive and physically hurt Mrs. Drover to leave a memory of him.. In panic, Mrs. Drover rushes to finish her tasks in the house as she wonders how he knows she is there and when will he come. These thoughts are running through her head, as well as the reader s head. Mrs. Drover becomes haunted with memories she has of him. • 42. Joseph Rudyard Kipling and his Works Rudyard Kipling If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten. Rudyard Kipling. Rudyard Kipling was born on December 30, 1865 at Bombay, India. Kipling spent the first six years of his idyllic life in India until his family moved back to England in 1871. After six months of living in England his parents abandoned him and his three year old sister, leaving them with the Holloway family, which in turn mistreated him physically and psychologically, this left him with a sense of betrayal and scars mentally, but it was then Kipling started to grow a love for literature. Between 1878 and 1882 he attended the United Services College at Westward Ho in north Devon. The College was a new and very rough boarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... England refused to provide for these men, finding it easier to talk about the glory of their soldiers rather than deliver them sustenance. Kipling s tone is grave and melancholy but also shows a sense of rage and bitterness that coursed through his lines as well as his life. Kipling was more negative than most poets at the time and it is no surprise this poem was far less popular. Kiplings poem boots is about the endless marching done in Africa. Kipling explains how the soldier would march for days, even weeks with no one to fight, and because the war was still on the endless marching with nothing to do but stare at the boots in front of you would drive you crazy. We can stick out unger, thirst, an weariness,/But not not not not the chronic sight of em /Boot boots boots boots movin up an down again (21 23). Kipling even says, staring at the boots, not knowing when the next battle will be is even worse than being shot at. Kipling uses repetition in this poem to give the reader a sense of monotony. Kipling s poem says to count the bullets in the bandoliers and do not let your eyes drop or the enemy will get on top of you. It is not altogether too bad during the day because of one s friends, but at night the long strings of forty million are too much to bear. Soldiers marched six weeks down in Hell and can assert that there is no dark, or devils, or anything else only the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Mental Health Treatment Of Mental Illnesses Approximately 20% of all children show at least minimal impairment from a mental health illness (Odar, C. o., Canter, K., Roberts, M. m. 2013). Around 31% of girls and 42% of boys between the ages of 9 and 16 years old meet the criteria of at least one mental health illness (Costello, E. J., Mustillo, S., Erkanli, A., Keeler, G., Angold, A. 2003). Some of these illnesses may include schizophrenia, bipolar disease, depression, etc. These illnesses may require continuous care and treatment for many years and can be very costly. There are many problems when it comes to the treatment of mental illnesses. Some of these problems are access, cost and funding, and the delivery of care. The first problem with mental health treatment is access. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cost of outpatient treatment is expensive. Most psychiatrists offices and hospitals require high copayments and deductibles if the treatment is covered under the patient s insurance plan. But according to a report done by the Center for Disease Control, people with serious mental illnesses are less likely to have health insurance, so they would be required to pay even more money out of pocket if they decide to receive treatment (Cohn, J. 2015). The funding required for treatment is also a big issue. In the early 20th century, insurance companies did not cover mental health care at all. Eventually, they started adding mental health coverage, and by the 1980s, managed care was introduced and was lowering costs (Cohn, J. 2015). But patients were concerned that these lower prices were compromising the quality of care. The quality and delivery of care is another mental health problem in the healthcare system. Due to the Mental Health Parity Act of 2008, insurers are required to provide the same coverage for both mental health treatment and medical/surgical treatment (Burns, J 2014). This could cause insurers to limit the length of stay for all patients in hospitals or residential care and could cause more readmissions to occur. It could also cause all patients to receive insufficient treatment. Implications Having little access to treatment or care can affect both patients and providers. It makes it harder for patients to receive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
