College Readiness Theory Essay
The facets of college readiness theory also insists that taking action, as a student, through developing
American style learning skills and study methods, will assist Chinese international students in taking
control of their academic success. Such significant educational skills include practicing excellent time
management, taking notes effectively, taking information to memory, possessing sufficiently well
developed reading skills, and the ability to conduct teamwork should all be part of preemptive
academic training that can keep Chinese international students focused and on task. Conley (2015)
wrote that all of the aforementioned skills are dependent upon Chinese international students having
an excellent understanding of the capability needed to transition into an American university setting.

Chilisa and Tsheko (2014) stated that the qualitative approach is the best selection for a study to
capitalize on real life, personal experiences and perceptions of study participants. Consequently,
qualitative research will be employed in this study with ten international and local teachers, ten
students from grades nine through twelve, and five administrators from local high school international
programs in Beijing, Wuhan, Jinhua, Shijiazhuang, and Shaoxing, China. Etikan, Abubakar, Rukayya,
and Alkassim (2016) state that purposive sampling is best suited for a study that consists of a non
probability sample that is based on features of a population and the objective of the study. Therefore,
the participants will be chosen based on their experience and knowledge of Chinese international

Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Rhetorical Analysis
The Civil War was a period of racial injustice and a time of great loss for the people of America.
During Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address, he creates a moral framework for peace and
reconciliation with the use of many rhetorical strategies. With a sincere but reflective tone, Abraham
Lincoln highlights the reality of the troubled nation and the solution to all of the problems, which is
unity. Lincoln repeats strong phrases to enhance the theme, references to a holy figure, and creates
simple, yet structured ideas to achieve his purpose of reuniting the broken nation. Lincoln speaks in a
simplistic manner in order to convey his message to the common man. Prior to the start of the civil
war, he made it clear that all dreaded [the

Who Is To Blame For The American Revolution
In battling the British in the Revolutionary War, the American rebels did just as the great French
military and political leader, Napoleon Bonaparte advised, Never interrupt your enemy when he is
making a mistake . Though there were a great deal of missed opportunities and misguided actions
taken by both sides of this war, none were as great as those by the ministers in London and British
Generals Howe and Burgoyne. However, of these three, one held a great deal of responsibility for
Britain s failure to suppress the American rebels by 1777. This person was indeed, General Howe.
General Howe is to blame for this failure because of all of the three listed, he was the most lethargic,
the most eager to surrender, and the one who failed to support his comrades. Some may claim that is
was General Burgoyne s responsibility due to his famous loss at Saratoga, New York. However, as
will be stated later, that failure will also ultimately fall at the hands of General Howe. While the
ministers in London acted out of their desire for authority over the colonies with little knowledge of
the situation in America, they are still not hold to most blame of the three. General Howe holds this
title because as it is known, wars are rarely determined by a single event as they are won through the
combined effect of a series of events. Before 1777, there were two main turning points in the War
which led to this failure of defeat the Americans by this time. The first is the Battle of

The Role Of Grania By Lady Gregory
The role of the theatre during the Irish Literary Revival was central to Irish cultural nationalism and
the political dynamics at the start of the 20th century. As a playwright and a co founder of the Abbey
Theatre, Lady Gregory created the backbone of the group that drove the Irish cultural identity towards
a more nationalist outlook. Yet as an Irish nationalist, her participation in political causes was often
muted; not because of her political views, but because of her gender. Though Lady Gregory played a
large part in the literary revival during the Irish nationalist movement, she was wary of rekindling a
past that was built upon the oppression of women. This essay will discuss the influence Gregory s
early life on her works, the portrayal of women by other prominent male playwrights at the time, her
depiction of women in her plays, and the characterization of the female character Grania. Using the
play Grania, Lady Gregory explores possibilities for Irish women to defy gender ... Show more

Gregory s dramatic interpretation of Grania becomes rather more sympathetic and offers justification
for her heroine s actions. According to author Maria Elena Doyle in the article A Spindle for the
Battle: Feminism, Myth, and the Woman Nation in Irish Revival Drama., Ultimately what Grania
wants is social recognition, an acknowledgment that she matters to the world around her as a living
individual rather than as an object of memory. (Doyle 40) As a consequence, Grania s mental strength
leads to her rejection of the patriarchal values within the community. She becomes more than a
symbol for men to interpret, but a ...social being defined by her own actions and interactions. (Doyle
39). By presenting a woman s decision to make her own path, Gregory alters the female standards of
the Revival in a way that does little to support nationalist

Tension Between 1763 And 1775
Tension had risen between the Americans and the Great Britain. The years between 1763 and 1775
was full of changes for the two of them. So many events had taken place, all of which led to the
American Revolution. Three of the many events that had taken place are the Treaty of Paris, Stamp
Act, and Boston Tea Party.
The Treaty of Paris was signed on February 10, 1763. This treaty temporarily concluded hostilities
between Britain and France (Rabushka). It ended the Seven Years War. This made Great Britain
powerful. This treaty made France lose all its territory inn North America (Winters 4 2c). There were
two small islands that the French still had control over: St. Pierre and Miquelon. Spain also had to
give its territory away. It gave

Almond Trees In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Typically, audiences read mystery novels to find out who committed the crime or why the crime was
committed however, in Chronicle of a Death Foretold the audience is aware of both motive and the
killers. In fact, the reader soon discovers that most of the community knows the details surrounding
the crime even before it takes place. The novel follows the narrator as he interrogates a Colombian
village trying to make meaning behind the lack of intervention surrounding the death of Santiago
Nasar, a death which could have been easily prevented. The final conclusion appears in the form of
deep cultural concerns, which Gabriel García Márquez employs as a social commentary to portray the
problems within his own culture. Problems such as the presence ... Show more content on

These passages are significant because they represent the means women must achieve to meet their
community s standards. The use of artificial flowers represents women being forced to fake their
virginity as to maintain their honor. This is especially seen towards the end of the novel, as Angela
Vicario is depicted as, still doing machine embroidery with her friends just as before she had made
cloth tulips and paper birds (García Márquez 93). Even as a rejected wife, Angela continues to make
cloth tulips, therefore demonstrating how desperate the women of this community are to maintain their
honor. As flowers symbolize purity, the fact that the flowers in the novel are artificial is important as it
represents a false representation of purity, thus further developing the idea of a gilded society.
Although the flowers are beautiful and vibrant, they are artificial, portraying the corrupt internal
nature of this Colombian village. Artificial flowers are implemented as a disguise used to display a
false truth. This gives the reader insight into Colombian culture, suggesting that flowers are used to
hide impurities. This translates over to the theme of the novel by developing the idea of a community
that is visually beautiful yet morally corrupt. García Márquez uses flowers to employ a social
commentary by depicting the

Nurse s Role In The Tuskegee Syphilis Trial
Tuskegee Syphilis Trial Introduction
In 1932 the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), in conjunction with the Tuskegee Institute, of
Macon County Alabama, initiated a study to record the natural course of untreated syphilis in black
males. According to the Center for Disease Control, the study involved 600 black men, among whom
399 had the disease, and 201 did not, but were used as controls. Participants were under the
impression that they were being treated for bad blood , which was how researchers described their
condition. To the uneducated, impoverished, and vulnerable black men, this appeared to be ideal,
given that their participation earned them, free meals, medical examinations, and burial insurance.
Unfortunately, what they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a nurse, she had an obligation to provide the best medical care for the sick, while minimizing all
potential harms, but her participation in the study gained her the reputation of a nurse who betrayed
her profession. From another point of view, Nurse Rivers has also been as much of a victim as the
participants of the study, due to both gender and race. In a patriarchal society dominated by whites, to
an extent, she was powerless. There would have been dire consequences for a negro, especially a
woman to challenge the doctor with whom she worked. According the Darlene Clark Hines, the doctor
not only worked for the government, but was also a white male, which made him superior by virtue of
race and gender. As a loyal employee, Nurse River always did as she was told, and knew that a nurse
should not question orders given by doctors. Nurse Rivers was described as an upwardly mobile
woman, who had adopted the values and attitudes of middle class culture, which suggests that class
identity shaped her professional life. At the time, it was difficult to find a job, given the great
economic depression in America. Moreover, having lost her job with the Alabama State health
department, Nurse Rivers was more than happy work as a public health nurse. Through hard work, she
achieved her goal of entering the middle class arena and having a job helped her to maintain her
position. It was crucial as a black nurse struggling for a place in a profession dominated by whites, to
cooperate with her superiors. Similarly, by forging relations with her white colleagues, she improved
her status as a black professional working in the world of white medicine. Clearly, hard times,
economic austerity and upward mobility were influential factors, and as stated by James Jones, race,
professional hierarchies, class, and gender all played distinct and

Grief Counseling In The Elephant Girl
Before we start, no, this story won t be told by The Elephant Girl because she passed away several

To those of you who never experienced grief, you may say that crying is pathetic and useless, that I
should get over it , but you will never understand unless it affected you. At the ending stages of
grieving, you had to find closure over the person s death and fully accept that they would never come

Price Ceiling Bill
In light of Congress passing of the price ceiling bill, there has been a large amount of speculation and
fear mongering enforced by the media and opposing views. While the prospect of a price ceiling is
rather worrying, we are here to dispel any fears you may have. Yes, in some cases a price ceiling may
create a shortage of gasoline in the community, but with where our price shall be set, and with our
distribution of resources, we believe this issue can be resolved rather easily and with minimum
negative impact. Considering the effects of a price ceiling on the free market, the equilibrium of
supply and demand, or the set price decided on the natural process, is altered depending on whether
the price ceiling is above or below the equilibrium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High priority workers and commuters still get a portion of gas sufficient to sustain needs, and finally,
long distance drivers, I.E travelers, will get no privileges over other citizens. Reading this may be
disheartening to most, but I assure you that this is in a state of severe shortages, and as I mentioned
before, our price ceiling will much further above the equilibrium line, therefore the chances of that
being an issue are rather low. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at $2.80 maximum per gallon.
That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a lot of stress on the average
consumer s wallet in reference to buying gasoline. And with the price of oil continuously declining,
and 60 90 years of fuel reserves at the current rate of consumption, gas prices shouldn t ever peak
above that with reasonable pricing in mind. While a price ceiling is an anti capitalist prospect, it
certainly shouldn t mean it s a negative enforcement. The Department of Energy will continue to serve

Personal Impact On The Water Cycle Essay
WA 4
ENVS 1301 PERSONAL IMPACT ON THE WATER CYCLE
Although I live in the United States, contrary to the image given through Hollywood movies, less than
one percent of Americans live in wealth akin to kings or queens or other monarchies. For example, as
a child I lived in a home sans modern plumbing. Such homes were called dry homes , which were
built during the depression era. As children, my siblings and I transported water from a faucet in the
front yard into the house for drinking, washing dishes, and bathing. The sole plumbing indoors was
the toilet; and, similar to those depicted in western movies, we had a wash pan and water pitcher inlieu
of a bathroom basin. For winter months, we were always careful to insulate the faucet pipes to prevent
freezing so we would have water during the cold seasons.
Needless to say, as an adult, I have a respect for water and an appreciation for modern plumbing. In
light of these facts, I would reason that my personal impact on the water cycle are at most minimal. In
our home we are careful not to waste water. For example, a filled half gallon BPA free bottle displaces
about one third of the water in the toilet tank, which conserves water with each use. Another example
would be the use of a dishpan instead of the dishwasher that conserves substantial quantities of water.
(However, the dishwasher is utilized weekly on an energy efficient setting, to sanitize clean dishes.)
When considering the human processing of grey water

Hideki Tojo, one of the worst rulers to live?
Background
Hello, I am former Prime Minister of Japan known as Hideki Tojo. I was a man who was born
December 30, 1884, and lived in a japanese district known as Kojimachi (Wikip). I was one of three
children under my father Hidenori Tojo who was a lieutenant general in the japanese imperial army. in
1899, I entered the Army Cadet School, worked hard to get a reputation, and ended being
commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the IJA Imperial Japanese Army (Wikipedia). I then married my
lovely wife Katsuko Ito and had seven kids. I had lots of experience in military and politics as time
went on. I was the prime minister of japan from 1941 to 1944 when japan was fighting the U.S. in
world war II. I was promoted in 1934 to the general and chief personnel in the Army Ministry. In 1940
i became the Minister of war for japan. We could see our country by this time being just as powerful
as the european countries. Hitler, a good friend of mine during WWII, admired what we were doing
with japan, and that we would soon be a superpower. The need for supplies to further advance our
military was needed, so we started advancing through the pacific, island hopping. we had a feeling
that as we moved forward, the chance of the US starting a war would be inevitable. So in 1941, after
the US stopped transporting supplies to japan due to our advancements in the pacific, I ordered

Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
Point of View: The novel is narrated by Mattie Cook in the first person. She is only able to speak for
herself. The only thoughts and feelings she displays are her own and the story is set wherever she is.
Setting: The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. The epidemic hits the city in the
late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with her mother and grandfather
above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical knowledge at the time which leads to
little control over the virus. They are many africans living free in Philadelphia at the time also. There
are also many mentions of the Free African Society. The setting and plot are rather historically
accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia
in the year 1793 in August. As well as date accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the
time. This includes people like, Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington.
References to the Free African Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and
actually did help victims of the yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill.
Main Character: Matilda Cook is an adventurous and independence seeking 14 year old girl. Although
she always being pestered by her mother, Mattie loves her mother dearly and worries when her mother
does not return home after going the the Luddington s farm. Mattie struggle with

Dangers Of Male Dominance In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Birthmark, he touches on the dangers of traditional male
dominance within Aylmer and Georgiana s marriage and how this confronts Aylmer s overall
masculinity, as well as identifies the reflection of a male ideal of femininity. Not only does this
masculine facade shape Georgiana s sexuality, but also it allows Aylmer to ultimately be able to live
his life governed by sameness which he feels he can control through Georgiana s feminine Nature
itself. Hawthorne uses The Birthmark, not just as a story about the flawed and imperfect nature of
women, but mainly of a story about the sickness of Aylmer, and how the great American dream of
eliminating women is essentially a demonstration that the only ... Show more content on

Aylmer s character, the man of science, is initially introduced as the pale philosopher who seems to be
so dedicated to his love of science that he believes he possibly possessed this degree of faith in man s
ultimate control over Nature (Hawthorne 28). Almost immediately, Aylmer pronounces his
masculinity and dominance over Georgiana and her feminine nature when he mentions if it had ever
occurred to her to have this odious hand removed from her face. The desire of removing this crimson
hand from Georgiana s face dictates Aylmer intently, even causing him to have dreams of the
birthmark because the mind is in a sad state when Sleep (Hawthorne 31). Until then, Aylmer wasn t
aware of the tyrannizing influence of the crimson hand, and how it put him in this sad state, yet this
problematic birthmark ultimately causes him to feel the need to express his masculinity over
Georgiana throughout the rest of the short story. This emphasizes Aylmer s character s need for control
over Georgiana indefinitely. We see Aylmer s character being moved to this situation, not because of
the vision of Georgiana s potential perfection, but by his horror at her present condition; Aylmer s
compulsion to perfect Georgiana is a result of his horrified perception of what she actually is, and all
lofty talk about wanting her to be perfect so that just this once the potential of Nature will be fulfilled
is but a cover for his central emotion of revulsion (Fetterley). Since this definition of masculinity is
essentially a reflection of the male ideal of femininity, this threatens Aylmer and causes him to become
resentful of feminine Nature, which can govern all beings, unlike his scientific experiments. This, in
turn, makes Aylmer fundamentally less than women, which undermines his masculinity even more

What Is Tuckman s Five Stage Theory Of Group Development
Our group had members from different educational backgrounds, place of origin, work experience etc.
This diversity helped us in getting new and different perspectives about the issues and possible
solutions to them and helped us to remove personal biases. As some of the members in the group were
from Bhubaneswar, it helped us in interacting with local people in Odia language and also familiarity
with the place made it easier for us to locate the stone crushers.
Group Process
As a part of analysis of group process, I will go over two different theories of group development. The
first one is Tuckman s 5 stage model of group development and Punctuated equilibrium model. In

development to have a clear objective, define goals, and plan how the team will achieve their tasks. In
my previous groups in 1st term, there was some discomfort and confusion, I think, primarily due to
the fact that we did not know each other well and did not have clear goals and an understanding of
how we would function together as a team. But in the GDTB group, some of us had already worked
together for another assignment in 1st term so it was easier for us to work together again for GDTB

interests in how we would work

Assessing Secular Temperature Trends in Hawaiʻi

(Draft) MA Thesis Proposal
By
Marie Maile McKenzie
Department of Geography
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa
Abstract Large scale, global temperature analyses and climate change models may sometimes
oversimplify or generalize smaller, regional trends. Only until a few years ago, efforts on climate
change projections for island scale has intensified for more reliable assessments of various impacts of
long term climate trends (Hamilton, 2014). Temperature changes over Hawaiʻi are expected to exceed
the current daily maximum values by the end of the 21st century (Lauer et al., 2013). Mountainous
tropical islands in the Hawaiian archipelago are showing greater warming than the lower elevations
(Giambelluca et al. 2008; Diaz et al. 2011, 2014). Observed surface air temperature trends can also be
used to test regionally downscaled climate models. The goal of this thesis is to analyze climate data to
assess possible trends that are likely to impact future management of summit ecosystems. This
research is essential to the effective protection and restoration of these fragile alpine and subalpine
ecosystems. The primary focus of this research is to expand on and update the previous analysis by
Giambelluca et al. (2008) by extending the data set from 2006 through to 2014 15 in order to: (a)
develop a revised Hawaiʻi Temperature Index to include the more recent data; (b) assess changes that

Obsession For Land In The Field, By John B. Kean
The Field is a story written by John B. Kean based on Irish historical events and culture in 1965. At
that period of time, Ireland was enduring the British powers attempts to conquer Irish territory. The
most important, valuable, and symbolic asset that an Irish citizen could own was land. Throughout the
story, the author emphasizes how important it was for an Irish farmer to own land. In the story, the
obsession for land generates a contest between the poor Irish farmer, Bull McCabe, and a rich British
businessman by the name of William. Bull has an immense knowledge in the field of agriculture, as
stated in the story; he transformed a rocky four acres land into a precious and green land. After five

Causality And Casuality
This study does not conclusively establish a positive correlation between high testosterone and anti
social behavior. The researchers concluded from a correlational study that a causal relationship exists,
yet that assumption is faulty. Causality cannot be implicated due to reverse causation or a third
confounding variable. Regardless, there is still merit to this data if high testosterone is said to not play
a predisposing role to aggressiveness. For example, a third variable, physical activity, tends to increase
testosterone. Therefore, actors and NFL players who are more physically active than ministers, should
have higher levels of testosterone; which does not imply high testosterone leads individuals to choose

The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace...
The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The
most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that
needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and
separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg.
82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other
democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international,
state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory
provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the
normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective
interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to
justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made
safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war
in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are
bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be
used to validate aggression.
Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders
accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war
(Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be
ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same
interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political
process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these
leaders accountable. However, Roasto states, because they are conscious of their

Getting Out Of Trouble Essay
Getting out of Trouble Imagine this: you are failing two subjects in school and you can t graduate if
you keep it up. Your parents ask, What would you like for your graduation party? Should you lie and
tell what you want...or tell them you are failing? Immanuel Kant defines lying as an intentional
untruthful declaration to another person . Everyone lies in this society that we live in, from kids to the
elderly. So why stress about it? Lying is always justified because it is up to each individual to choose
what to believe to do except for when you are putting other in harm s way. From my point of view,
lying can protect the feeling and lives of others. For example, in the article, It s the Truth by

The History Of The Orff Schulwerk Approach To Music Education
Introduction The Orff Schulwerk ( Schulwerk being the German translation for school work )
approach to music education is one of the most commonly used methods of teaching music in the
twenty first century. This interactive method of music education is most commonly used for
elementary students, but can be applied to teach secondary students as well. Developed by composers
Carl Orff (1895 1982) and Gunild Keetman (1904 1990), the Orff Schulwerk method focuses on
teaching students by using elemental music, meaning music that children are naturally inclined to
make, similar to the natural way that children learn speech and language. The Orff Schulwerk method
also places a strong emphasis on the areas of exploration and experience.
The History of the Orff Schulwerk Method Carl Orff was born in Munich, Germany on July 10, 1895.
After his schooling and his tenure in the German army, Orff began intensely studying 16th and 17th
century music. Orff founded the Güntherschule, a movement school, with Dorothee Günther in 1924;
the students (numbering seventeen) ranged from ages 18 to 22, and were all female. Orff wrote that
improvisation was the beginning foundation for making elemental music, particularly rhythmic
improvisation. Orff s emphasis on elemental music likely stemmed from the work of Wassily
Kandinsky, who wrote on the internalization of movement for dance forms that would emerge in the
future. Students from Orff s school began performing and using improvisation on

Motives for Iraq War through Realism and Neo-Conservatism...
The invasion on Iraq by the United States in 2003 has become the biggest, lengthiest, and most
expensive use of armed force since the Vietnam War. It is the first major post Cold War U.S. military
action taken unilaterally, without an international coalition, and the first U.S. experience as an
occupying power in a Middle Eastern country. Although the invasion decision was distinctive (U.S.
military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi invasion deals
with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Both realism and neo conservatism
claim to capture the motives behind the war, but only through a comprehensive comparison of the two
can a synthesis be achieved. On March 20th, 2003, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others, and
that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Rational statesmen, as
conceived by Morgantheau, continuously embarked on a struggle to accumulate more and more
power. Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40). Realism
helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist standpoint,
verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary participation in eternal
quests for power and security due to an international political environment in which each state fears
the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Leaders logically estimate war s costs
and profits in terms of their state s power and security. States international behavior thus reflects the
constraints imposed on their actions by their relative power position. Even before 2003, the Bush
administration had been forthright and explicit about its goal of global hegemony a power so complete
that challenging it becomes nearly inconceivable. Bush s speech at West Point in spring 2002
declared,

Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems
Introduction
Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex activity.
Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other, monitor
the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions and, among
other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when. Conversations are joint
actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities (Clark, 1996). It is quite
illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing waltz. Each individual action
is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other person. How and when to talk is
learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation is the matrix of language
acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is expected from them to talk (for
instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a hello was expressed, they show when is
expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the last twenty years, various efforts have sprung
from the interest to develop annotation models that reflect the diverse ways in which participants
behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL,
Allen Core, 1997). These tagging schemes are based on dialogue act annotation. They differ from each

Is Julius Caesar A Hero Or A Villain
In life, people often look up to leaders and rulers in respectful viewpoints; whether it be out of bias or
out of understanding. Leaders are at the top looking down upon us because of what they believe in,
how commanding their words are, and the trust the people invest in them. Julius Caesar was neither a
kind leader nor was he an understanding ruler; from his egotistical actions, his violent attacks and
scandals with Cleopatra, and his controversy throughout Rome as leader in all its simplicity, I am
undoubtedly certain Julius Caesar was a villain in disguise.
First of all, Julius Caesar was an egotistical leader. He wore purple robes, a symbol of kings and
vanity. This implied he truly believed that he was above all of his citizens, and in order to be a strong
and capable leader one cannot emit overconfidence. He declared himself dictator for life, which
confirmed these reasonings that he truly believed he was a god. Furthermore, he was overconfident ...

However, very few citizens in Rome stood fully behind Caesar and all of his glory. Even though
Caesar is perceived today as a strong and powerful leader, society overlooks the fact that his people
disliked him so much they had the audacity to murder the so called loved leader. His controversy
echoed throughout the streets and his name was feared throughout Europe. Thus, Julius Caesar was
disliked by his own people which, in the end, led to his own demise.
On the whole, Julius Caesar was a villain. He proved through his actions, his power, and his fashion
that Caesar was only out for himself and was determined to have his name etched in stone. From his
purple robes that represented his egotistical views of himself, his scandalous actions and murderous
ways, to his image he projected onto his people, there is no doubt that Julius Caesar was never and

the reader a lot to think about when considering Rothstein s idea.
Vashti, the woman at the beginning of the story, lives out her days as many other people of this time

The Nun s Priest s Tale is an allegory that uses animals with human characteristics in order to portray
the moral of the story. The story centers on a rooster named Chanticleer, who possesses many human
qualities, such as speaking, singing, and the ability to dream. Partlet, a hen, is described as polite,
discreet, debonair, and companionable (153). These are characteristics not typically associated with
animals, which strengthens the message that the animals are representative of humans. Furthermore,
Chanticleer and the other animals display human emotions, such as Chanticleer s fear of his dream,
Partlet s disgust of Chanticleer s fear, and the love that Chanticleer and Partlet feel for one another.

singing, and he tells him to sing with his eyes closed. Chanticleer is very flattered by this and does

Chanticleer escapes, Sir Russell tries to trick him once more, but Chanticleer has learned his lesson,
stating I will curse myself . . . if you trick me once more. Never again shall you with your flattery get
me to sing with my eyes closed, (164). Chanticleer singing with his eyes closed is representative of the
ways in which humans can be fooled and deceived when faced with flattery. The moral of the tale is
reinforced by these events, again demonstrating how the story of the animals is representative of
human nature. Moreover, within the main story, there is a discussion of other stories, including
different perspectives on the importance of dreams. Though Partlet believes that there is nothing but
vanity in dreams (154), Chanticleer explains how this is untrue, and in the process, he discusses two
other stories he knows that reinforce his belief that dreams are significant of joy as well as of trouble
(156). The inclusion of these stories reaffirms the depiction of the animals as having human qualities,
as Chanticleer and Partlet discuss the importance of dreams in an intellectual style. This also
reinforces the tale as more than just a story about animals, but rather an important tale about human

Gender And Communication Essay
In response to what we have discussed thus far in Interpersonal Communication, I would like to
further explore the idea of gender in the interpersonal communication arena. As was said in class,
gender influences cultural perspectives. Gender also influences how we view ourselves in society. On
the flip side, I ve seen how society can mold the way we label ourselves in terms of gender.
The well known concepts of masculinity and femininity run rampant in our society. We live in a world
where men are told to be masculine, women are told to be feminine and those who do not do as they
are told, will suffer the societal consequences.
The philosophy of masculinity supports the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, at least for a day or two.
Society would like all women to be feminine. That is to say, society would like all women to render
themselves as weak, non assertive, helpless, male needing beings. Women are told to act lady like at
all times. This means not arguing, not standing up for themselves and obeying men at all times. The
feminine guidelines are seemingly endless and to live a feminine lifestyle is exhausting for most
women. It is not accepted for women to spit or belch, whereas for a male these acts are second nature.
A fabulous example of manifested pure femininity is the Barbie Doll. Barbie is a homemaker, with a
thin body dressed in pink. Barbie is seen as the perfect women and manifests in physical form in every
issue of Playboy magazine. Most women are chasing an illusory goal of total femininity, while at the
same time searching for complete societal acceptance.
Very few people emit all masculine or all feminine behavior. Most people of our society integrate both
feminine and masculine characteristics within their beings. The integration of both masculinity and
femininity is known as androgyny. Is has become more and more accepted to be androgynous, yet few
people obtain a perfect balance between masculinity and femininity. The unspoken societal rule about
gender is, if one is male, one must show more masculine traits than feminine traits, or else risk the

Foreskin Hygiene, Pediatric
The foreskin is the loose skin that covers the head of the penis (glans). Keeping the foreskin area clean
can help prevent infection and other conditions. If this area is not cleaned, a creamy substance called
smegma can collect under the foreskin and cause odor and irritation.
The foreskin of an infant or toddler does not need unique hygiene care. You should wash the penis the
same way as any other part of your child s body, making sure you rinse off any soap. Cleaning inside
the foreskin is not necessary for children that young.
RETRACTING THE FORESKIN
Usually, the foreskin will fully separate from the glans by age 5 years, but it may separate as early as

You ve probably heard about this before. A fish pedicure is an unconventional method of treating your

The fish will swarm your feet and eat away all the dirt and dead skin cells in your feet. This type of

On the other hand, not all people are suitable to this kind of foot treatment. Some people have a more

careful with your feet because you may have more foot issues compared to the standard client. An

The Fight for Social Justice Essay
It has been proven that often, the fight for social justice and the common good comes at a great cost to
those involved. Through writings such as Dr. Martin Luther King s Letter from a Birmingham Jail and
Sophocles Antigone , as well as, lectures such as Dr.Colbourn s lecture Confronting History and the
Good Life: Life after Rosewood it is demonstrated how life, freedom, and a normal everyday life
suffer as a cost of fighting for social justice and the common good. To begin with, Dr. Martin Luther
King as well as many other African Americans fought for equality, social justice, and a better life for
African American resulting in a great cost. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was ridiculed and was the target
of many attacks simply for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. paid the ultimate cost when fighting for social justice and the
common good, with his life. On April 4th, 1963, he was assassinated by someone who didn t like him
and the cause he was fighting for. Although Dr. King lost his life, his actions resulted in a better life
for African Americans in terms of equality and social justice. Moreover, Sophocles Antigone shows
how freedom, life, and a normal everyday life was the cost of fighting for social justice and the
common good. In attempt to give her brother Polyneices the appropriate burial, chaos erupts in the
kingdom of Thebes. Antigone wanted to honor her brother and the gods by burying her brother even
though it was against the wishes of King Creon. Antigone knew her punishment would be death, but
she did not care. Antigone was willing to risk her life in order to do what she felt was right. In regards
to freedom, Antigone s arrest and exile were both costs of her fight for social justice and the common
good. Antigone s fight for the common good affected her life as well as the lives of those around her.
Her fiancé Haimon tried to fight for a good life for himself and Antigone by going against his father s
word. In the end, Haimon took his life as a result of Antigone s death and his mother Eurydike
committed suicide as a result of Haimon s death.

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color
change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in
this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the
water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not
change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from
the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its
usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change
because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did
not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven
dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the
vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same.
Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance.
Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the
main focus of experiment two was

Essay On Irish Imperialism
Until the 19th century European society was based upon single individuals and dynasties of families.
The nucleus of a group revolved around the centralized power of monarchs with no real sense of
national ties. Although communities claimed similar ethnicities and religious beliefs the unity of this
was limited by miniscule differences. Countries were greatly divided by this schism, Protestants
deeply mistrusted Catholics, Saxon and Hessen Germans were old rivals and French forcible
conquests of foreign monarchies created territorial tension. Activities like these created great internal
strife of civil wars and rebellions; it was not until the French Revolution that the enlightenment idea of
a state truly began to unite countries under a singular idea of the nation. No longer was centralism
based upon traditional ideas of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following nearly 600 years of varying English rule the Irish people in the late 1800s experienced a
voracious onset of nationalist sentiment, influenced by European enlightenment thinkers. The Irish
under an initially moderate national leadership pushed for the policy of home rule, which would grant
the Irish autonomy, self rule and economic freedom in return for maintaining their position within the
United Kingdom. The home rule issue would dominate Irish politics for nearly 50 years until 1919,
when extremist nationals would attain control of local governments and officially declare the Irish
Republic (Campbell 624 630.) The Irish revolution is commonly attributed to pre nationalistic
revolutionary ideas of intolerance, economic propensity towards independence and foreign
oppressment creating unity, this is a misplaced assumption though as the war and preceding conflict
was fought and won almost

How White Tailed Deer Affect Native And Invasive Plant...
How White tailed Deer Effect Native and Invasive Plant Species Populations in the Eastern United
States.
Introduction
Whitetail deer have come to be known as a keystone species, species known for affecting other
organisms in an ecosystem. Deer are known as a keystone species in forest habitats such as in the
Eastern United States because they are capable of destroying potential forest habitat of other
organisms (McShea and Rappole, 1992). For example, deer have a negative impact on forest
ecosystems by trampling and over browsing over vegetation, without creating any habitat for other
native species. Throughout the eastern United States, the abundance of white tailed deer (Odocoileus
virginianus) has increased dramatically over the last century (Taggart and Long, 2015). Population
increases could be due to increased habitat fragmentation from land development, reduced predators
and/or hunting pressure. Individual deer ranges varied during seasonal times, deer movements are
usually greatest during the peak breeding months from late fall through winter (Williams et. al, 2012).
Regardless of the cause, high deer densities can have significant effects on plant communities such as
plant decay and/or even death. Deer consume a large amounts of plant biomass (leaves, buds, flowers
and fruits) and directly reduce the growth, reproduction, and survival of herbaceous and woody plant
species (Shen et. al, 2016). The impacts of white tailed deer on forests along the Eastern United

over their wives?
a. In the letter to her husband, John Adams in Philadelphia, serving the Continental Congress, Abigail
Adams refers unlimited power husbands exercise over their wives to make a point about gender
inequality between men and women in their society. As in 1700s women were considered a second
class citizen, where the husband (men) has power over their women. Abigail Adams doesn t want men
to have such a power, do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands and asks her
husband to give women more rights [she] desire [her husband] would Remember the Ladies, and be

Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism...
Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the
Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would
have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more
right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically
altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our
human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of
time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the
moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the
dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is
shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our
intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe.
From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner
process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux
supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand,
Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization
constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or
belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and
self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure
is, therefore, a social

Artists Should Be Able To Sell Their Music In Advertising
The music business is changing rapidly, and artists have to find new ways to adapt to the changes.
Among the many changes is the selling of artists music. The way artists sell their music has drastically
changed from CDs, and cassettes to streaming, and online purchases. This new change has brought
with it many adverse side effects; including, the huge loss in revenue for artists brought in by these
new changes. Artists have had to adapt to this by touring more often and using their music in
advertising. Artists should be able to use their music in advertising because it helps the artists and the
companies in numerous ways. Artists have been losing revenue thanks to new methods of streaming

This proves that an image that an artist created for the band can be destroyed by selling out to
companies. If a band created an image of being rebellious, and they sell out; then, they are going to
seem less rebellious and leave their fans betrayed. While this may all be true, the benefits of artists
making deals with corporations are far greater. Such as, A corporation paying for these costs can make
the difference between artists growing their careers, or completely giving up on the music business
altogether (Coates). If an artist cannot pay for the costs of touring and selling music, then they could
use the advertisement to get enough money to keep their dream alive. Artists making deals with
companies has many positives, such as: giving bands exposure, and helping with the revenue of bands,
and making bands more recognizable. There are many benefits to artists starring in advertisements
with corporations, which is why music should be in advertising. Music in advertising is helpful to the
artists and the companies in numerous ways, which is why artists should be able to keep their music in
advertising. The importance of music in advertising is that it can make a band more famous, more
recognizable, and help with their revenue. Musicians deserve to keep their music in advertising, since
it can help them profoundly. If you were a band that wanted to become more famous or more
recognizable, but needed some help;

The Fundamental Issues Within The Romanian And Indian Culture
In this essay I will analyse the fundamental issues within the Romanian and Indian culture,
progressing then to understand the leadership that each culture creates and attracts. I will also present
a set of potential solutions for each of them individually, and for working together, as well as make
comparisons between my findings and Hofstede s.
Leadership in Romania is built upon the belief in a higher ordeal, therefore either on religion, or a
feeling of servitude towards God, or for the benefit of culture. The leadership that appeals to people
and motivates them to do more and be proactive, is the one that appeals to their inner sense of duty. If
that is lacking, the only second best option within the national Romanian culture is the military
leadership style. The later we have seen enforced for the past decades, and is defined by an
enforcement of power; this is at the other end of the spectrum to the desired assuming of power and
responsibility that duty is defined by, and Romanians so desire (Hurduzeu, 2015).
Regarding the above mentioned as true, there are two major solutions for bringing positive change in
Romania. People either learn how to draw their sense of purpose from their ongoing daily activities,
becoming leaders in their daily endeavours , and therefore live and act in a way that reflects their
sense and need of duty or they wait for a national leader to instill this sense into them. This polarity of
choice is described by our intermediate

  • 2. College Readiness Theory Essay The facets of college readiness theory also insists that taking action, as a student, through developing American style learning skills and study methods, will assist Chinese international students in taking control of their academic success. Such significant educational skills include practicing excellent time management, taking notes effectively, taking information to memory, possessing sufficiently well developed reading skills, and the ability to conduct teamwork should all be part of preemptive academic training that can keep Chinese international students focused and on task. Conley (2015) wrote that all of the aforementioned skills are dependent upon Chinese international students having an excellent understanding of the capability needed to transition into an American university setting. • 3. Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Rhetorical Analysis The Civil War was a period of racial injustice and a time of great loss for the people of America. During Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address, he creates a moral framework for peace and reconciliation with the use of many rhetorical strategies. With a sincere but reflective tone, Abraham Lincoln highlights the reality of the troubled nation and the solution to all of the problems, which is unity. Lincoln repeats strong phrases to enhance the theme, references to a holy figure, and creates simple, yet structured ideas to achieve his purpose of reuniting the broken nation. Lincoln speaks in a simplistic manner in order to convey his message to the common man. Prior to the start of the civil war, he made it clear that all dreaded [the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Who Is To Blame For The American Revolution In battling the British in the Revolutionary War, the American rebels did just as the great French military and political leader, Napoleon Bonaparte advised, Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake . Though there were a great deal of missed opportunities and misguided actions taken by both sides of this war, none were as great as those by the ministers in London and British Generals Howe and Burgoyne. However, of these three, one held a great deal of responsibility for Britain s failure to suppress the American rebels by 1777. This person was indeed, General Howe. General Howe is to blame for this failure because of all of the three listed, he was the most lethargic, the most eager to surrender, and the one who failed to support his comrades. Some may claim that is was General Burgoyne s responsibility due to his famous loss at Saratoga, New York. However, as will be stated later, that failure will also ultimately fall at the hands of General Howe. While the ministers in London acted out of their desire for authority over the colonies with little knowledge of the situation in America, they are still not hold to most blame of the three. General Howe holds this title because as it is known, wars are rarely determined by a single event as they are won through the combined effect of a series of events. Before 1777, there were two main turning points in the War which led to this failure of defeat the Americans by this time. The first is the Battle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Role Of Grania By Lady Gregory The role of the theatre during the Irish Literary Revival was central to Irish cultural nationalism and the political dynamics at the start of the 20th century. As a playwright and a co founder of the Abbey Theatre, Lady Gregory created the backbone of the group that drove the Irish cultural identity towards a more nationalist outlook. Yet as an Irish nationalist, her participation in political causes was often muted; not because of her political views, but because of her gender. Though Lady Gregory played a large part in the literary revival during the Irish nationalist movement, she was wary of rekindling a past that was built upon the oppression of women. This essay will discuss the influence Gregory s early life on her works, the portrayal of women by other prominent male playwrights at the time, her depiction of women in her plays, and the characterization of the female character Grania. Using the play Grania, Lady Gregory explores possibilities for Irish women to defy gender ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gregory s dramatic interpretation of Grania becomes rather more sympathetic and offers justification for her heroine s actions. According to author Maria Elena Doyle in the article A Spindle for the Battle: Feminism, Myth, and the Woman Nation in Irish Revival Drama., Ultimately what Grania wants is social recognition, an acknowledgment that she matters to the world around her as a living individual rather than as an object of memory. (Doyle 40) As a consequence, Grania s mental strength leads to her rejection of the patriarchal values within the community. She becomes more than a symbol for men to interpret, but a ...social being defined by her own actions and interactions. (Doyle 39). By presenting a woman s decision to make her own path, Gregory alters the female standards of the Revival in a way that does little to support nationalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So many events had taken place, all of which led to the American Revolution. Three of the many events that had taken place are the Treaty of Paris, Stamp Act, and Boston Tea Party. The Treaty of Paris was signed on February 10, 1763. This treaty temporarily concluded hostilities between Britain and France (Rabushka). It ended the Seven Years War. This made Great Britain powerful. This treaty made France lose all its territory inn North America (Winters 4 2c). • 7. Almond Trees In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Typically, audiences read mystery novels to find out who committed the crime or why the crime was committed however, in Chronicle of a Death Foretold the audience is aware of both motive and the killers. In fact, the reader soon discovers that most of the community knows the details surrounding the crime even before it takes place. The novel follows the narrator as he interrogates a Colombian village trying to make meaning behind the lack of intervention surrounding the death of Santiago Nasar, a death which could have been easily prevented. The final conclusion appears in the form of deep cultural concerns, which Gabriel García Márquez employs as a social commentary to portray the problems within his own culture. Problems such as the presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These passages are significant because they represent the means women must achieve to meet their community s standards. The use of artificial flowers represents women being forced to fake their virginity as to maintain their honor. This is especially seen towards the end of the novel, as Angela Vicario is depicted as, still doing machine embroidery with her friends just as before she had made cloth tulips and paper birds (García Márquez 93). Even as a rejected wife, Angela continues to make cloth tulips, therefore demonstrating how desperate the women of this community are to maintain their honor. As flowers symbolize purity, the fact that the flowers in the novel are artificial is important as it represents a false representation of purity, thus further developing the idea of a gilded society. Although the flowers are beautiful and vibrant, they are artificial, portraying the corrupt internal nature of this Colombian village. Artificial flowers are implemented as a disguise used to display a false truth. This gives the reader insight into Colombian culture, suggesting that flowers are used to hide impurities. This translates over to the theme of the novel by developing the idea of a community that is visually beautiful yet morally corrupt. García Márquez uses flowers to employ a social commentary by depicting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Nurse s Role In The Tuskegee Syphilis Trial Tuskegee Syphilis Trial Introduction In 1932 the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), in conjunction with the Tuskegee Institute, of Macon County Alabama, initiated a study to record the natural course of untreated syphilis in black males. According to the Center for Disease Control, the study involved 600 black men, among whom 399 had the disease, and 201 did not, but were used as controls. Participants were under the impression that they were being treated for bad blood , which was how researchers described their condition. As a nurse, she had an obligation to provide the best medical care for the sick, while minimizing all potential harms, but her participation in the study gained her the reputation of a nurse who betrayed her profession. From another point of view, Nurse Rivers has also been as much of a victim as the participants of the study, due to both gender and race. In a patriarchal society dominated by whites, to an extent, she was powerless. There would have been dire consequences for a negro, especially a woman to challenge the doctor with whom she worked. According the Darlene Clark Hines, the doctor not only worked for the government, but was also a white male, which made him superior by virtue of race and gender. As a loyal employee, Nurse River always did as she was told, and knew that a nurse should not question orders given by doctors. Nurse Rivers was described as an upwardly mobile woman, who had adopted the values and attitudes of middle class culture, which suggests that class identity shaped her professional life. At the time, it was difficult to find a job, given the great economic depression in America. Moreover, having lost her job with the Alabama State health department, Nurse Rivers was more than happy work as a public health nurse. Through hard work, she achieved her goal of entering the middle class arena and having a job helped her to maintain her position. It was crucial as a black nurse struggling for a place in a profession dominated by whites, to cooperate with her superiors. Similarly, by forging relations with her white colleagues, she improved her status as a black professional working in the world of white medicine. Clearly, hard times, economic austerity and upward mobility were influential factors, and as stated by James Jones, race, professional hierarchies, class, and gender all played distinct and ... • 11. Price Ceiling Bill In light of Congress passing of the price ceiling bill, there has been a large amount of speculation and fear mongering enforced by the media and opposing views. While the prospect of a price ceiling is rather worrying, we are here to dispel any fears you may have. Yes, in some cases a price ceiling may create a shortage of gasoline in the community, but with where our price shall be set, and with our distribution of resources, we believe this issue can be resolved rather easily and with minimum negative impact. High priority workers and commuters still get a portion of gas sufficient to sustain needs, and finally, long distance drivers, I.E travelers, will get no privileges over other citizens. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at $2.80 maximum per gallon. That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a lot of stress on the average consumer s wallet in reference to buying gasoline. And with the price of oil continuously declining, and 60 90 years of fuel reserves at the current rate of consumption, gas prices shouldn t ever peak above that with reasonable pricing in mind. • 12. Personal Impact On The Water Cycle Essay WA 4 ENVS 1301 PERSONAL IMPACT ON THE WATER CYCLE Although I live in the United States, contrary to the image given through Hollywood movies, less than one percent of Americans live in wealth akin to kings or queens or other monarchies. For example, as a child I lived in a home sans modern plumbing. Such homes were called dry homes , which were built during the depression era. As children, my siblings and I transported water from a faucet in the front yard into the house for drinking, washing dishes, and bathing. The sole plumbing indoors was the toilet; and, similar to those depicted in western movies, we had a wash pan and water pitcher inlieu of a bathroom basin. For winter months, we were always careful to insulate the faucet pipes to prevent freezing so we would have water during the cold seasons. Needless to say, as an adult, I have a respect for water and an appreciation for modern plumbing. In light of these facts, I would reason that my personal impact on the water cycle are at most minimal. In our home we are careful not to waste water. For example, a filled half gallon BPA free bottle displaces about one third of the water in the toilet tank, which conserves water with each use. Another example would be the use of a dishpan instead of the dishwasher that conserves substantial quantities of water. (However, the dishwasher is utilized weekly on an energy efficient setting, to sanitize clean dishes.) When considering the human processing of grey water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background Hello, I am former Prime Minister of Japan known as Hideki Tojo. I was a man who was born December 30, 1884, and lived in a japanese district known as Kojimachi (Wikip). I was one of three children under my father Hidenori Tojo who was a lieutenant general in the japanese imperial army. in 1899, I entered the Army Cadet School, worked hard to get a reputation, and ended being commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the IJA Imperial Japanese Army (Wikipedia). I then married my lovely wife Katsuko Ito and had seven kids. I had lots of experience in military and politics as time went on. I was the prime minister of japan from 1941 to 1944 when japan was fighting the U.S. in world war II. I was promoted in 1934 to the general and chief personnel in the Army Ministry. In 1940 i became the Minister of war for japan. We could see our country by this time being just as powerful as the european countries. Hitler, a good friend of mine during WWII, admired what we were doing with japan, and that we would soon be a superpower. The need for supplies to further advance our military was needed, so we started advancing through the pacific, island hopping. we had a feeling that as we moved forward, the chance of the US starting a war would be inevitable. • 14. Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson Point of View: The novel is narrated by Mattie Cook in the first person. She is only able to speak for herself. The only thoughts and feelings she displays are her own and the story is set wherever she is. Setting: The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. The epidemic hits the city in the late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with her mother and grandfather above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical knowledge at the time which leads to little control over the virus. They are many africans living free in Philadelphia at the time also. There are also many mentions of the Free African Society. The setting and plot are rather historically accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia in the year 1793 in August. As well as date accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the time. This includes people like, Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington. References to the Free African Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and actually did help victims of the yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill. Main Character: Matilda Cook is an adventurous and independence seeking 14 year old girl. Although she always being pestered by her mother, Mattie loves her mother dearly and worries when her mother does not return home after going the the Luddington s farm. Mattie struggle with ... In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Birthmark, he touches on the dangers of traditional male dominance within Aylmer and Georgiana s marriage and how this confronts Aylmer s overall masculinity, as well as identifies the reflection of a male ideal of femininity. Not only does this masculine facade shape Georgiana s sexuality, but also it allows Aylmer to ultimately be able to live his life governed by sameness which he feels he can control through Georgiana s feminine Nature itself. Hawthorne uses The Birthmark, not just as a story about the flawed and imperfect nature of women, but mainly of a story about the sickness of Aylmer, and how the great American dream of eliminating women is essentially a demonstration that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aylmer s character, the man of science, is initially introduced as the pale philosopher who seems to be so dedicated to his love of science that he believes he possibly possessed this degree of faith in man s ultimate control over Nature (Hawthorne 28). Almost immediately, Aylmer pronounces his masculinity and dominance over Georgiana and her feminine nature when he mentions if it had ever occurred to her to have this odious hand removed from her face. The desire of removing this crimson hand from Georgiana s face dictates Aylmer intently, even causing him to have dreams of the birthmark because the mind is in a sad state when Sleep (Hawthorne 31). Until then, Aylmer wasn t aware of the tyrannizing influence of the crimson hand, and how it put him in this sad state, yet this problematic birthmark ultimately causes him to feel the need to express his masculinity over Georgiana throughout the rest of the short story. This emphasizes Aylmer s character s need for control over Georgiana indefinitely. We see Aylmer s character being moved to this situation, not because of the vision of Georgiana s potential perfection, but by his horror at her present condition; Aylmer s compulsion to perfect Georgiana is a result of his horrified perception of what she actually is, and all lofty talk about wanting her to be perfect so that just this once the potential of Nature will be fulfilled is but a cover for his central emotion of revulsion (Fetterley). Since this definition of masculinity is essentially a reflection of the male ideal of femininity, this threatens Aylmer and causes him to become resentful of feminine Nature, which can govern all beings, unlike his scientific experiments. This, in turn, makes Aylmer fundamentally less than women, which undermines his masculinity even more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Assessing Secular Temperature Trends Of Hawai Ęť I Assessing Secular Temperature Trends in Hawaiʻi May 14, 2015 (Draft) MA Thesis Proposal By Marie Maile McKenzie Department of Geography University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Abstract Large scale, global temperature analyses and climate change models may sometimes oversimplify or generalize smaller, regional trends. Only until a few years ago, efforts on climate change projections for island scale has intensified for more reliable assessments of various impacts of long term climate trends (Hamilton, 2014). Temperature changes over Hawaiʻi are expected to exceed the current daily maximum values by the end of the 21st century (Lauer et al., 2013). Mountainous tropical islands in the Hawaiian archipelago are showing greater warming than the lower elevations (Giambelluca et al. 2008; Diaz et al. 2011, 2014). Observed surface air temperature trends can also be used to test regionally downscaled climate models. The goal of this thesis is to analyze climate data to assess possible trends that are likely to impact future management of summit ecosystems. This research is essential to the effective protection and restoration of these fragile alpine and subalpine ecosystems. The primary focus of this research is to expand on and update the previous analysis by Giambelluca et al. (2008) by extending the data set from 2006 through to 2014 15 in order to: (a) develop a revised Hawaiʻi Temperature Index to include the more recent data; (b) assess changes that occurred in the ... • 20. Obsession For Land In The Field, By John B. Kean The Field is a story written by John B. Kean based on Irish historical events and culture in 1965. At that period of time, Ireland was enduring the British powers attempts to conquer Irish territory. The most important, valuable, and symbolic asset that an Irish citizen could own was land. Throughout the story, the author emphasizes how important it was for an Irish farmer to own land. In the story, the obsession for land generates a contest between the poor Irish farmer, Bull McCabe, and a rich British businessman by the name of William. He stresses his disapproval of William s intents by saying, Now this robber comes from nowhere and he s nothing less than a robber (59). He couldn t accept the fact that a stranger would own a land that he had put so much effort in. William Dee wasn t an awful man; however he didn t give any credibility to Bull. The researchers concluded from a correlational study that a causal relationship exists, yet that assumption is faulty. • 22. The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace... The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg. 82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international, state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be used to validate aggression. Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war (Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these leaders accountable. Immanuel Kant defines lying as an intentional untruthful declaration to another person . Everyone lies in this society that we live in, from kids to the elderly. So why stress about it? The History Of The Orff Schulwerk Approach To Music Education Introduction The Orff Schulwerk ( Schulwerk being the German translation for school work ) approach to music education is one of the most commonly used methods of teaching music in the twenty first century. This interactive method of music education is most commonly used for elementary students, but can be applied to teach secondary students as well. Developed by composers Carl Orff (1895 1982) and Gunild Keetman (1904 1990), the Orff Schulwerk method focuses on teaching students by using elemental music, meaning music that children are naturally inclined to make, similar to the natural way that children learn speech and language. The Orff Schulwerk method also places a strong emphasis on the areas of exploration and experience. The History of the Orff Schulwerk Method Carl Orff was born in Munich, Germany on July 10, 1895. After his schooling and his tenure in the German army, Orff began intensely studying 16th and 17th century music. Orff founded the Güntherschule, a movement school, with Dorothee Günther in 1924; the students (numbering seventeen) ranged from ages 18 to 22, and were all female. Orff wrote that improvisation was the beginning foundation for making elemental music, particularly rhythmic improvisation. The invasion on Iraq by the United States in 2003 has become the biggest, lengthiest, and most expensive use of armed force since the Vietnam War. It is the first major post Cold War U.S. military action taken unilaterally, without an international coalition, and the first U.S. experience as an occupying power in a Middle Eastern country. Although the invasion decision was distinctive (U.S. military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi invasion deals with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others, and that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40). Realism helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist standpoint, verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary participation in eternal quests for power and security due to an international political environment in which each state fears the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Leaders logically estimate war s costs and profits in terms of their state s power and security. • 29. Presentation of Research Proposal Turn Taking Management for Multimodal Dialogue Systems Introduction Natural dialogue involves the management of many communicative resources in a complex activity. Participants in a conversation transmit information, agree and disagree between each other, monitor the communicative status of their messages, make decisions about non linguistic actions and, among other things, they deal with social conventions about who is to talk and when. Conversations are joint actions in which participants individually perform coordinated activities (Clark, 1996). It is quite illustrative the metaphor proposed by Clark about dialoguing as dancing waltz. Each individual action is coordinated in a choreographic way with the actions of the other person. How and when to talk is learned since childhood, it is known that face to face conversation is the matrix of language acquisition. It is common to listen parents telling to kids when is expected from them to talk (for instance, they motivate responses if a question, an order or a hello was expressed, they show when is expected to say thank you or you are welcome ). For the last twenty years, various efforts have sprung from the interest to develop annotation models that reflect the diverse ways in which participants behaviors contribute to conversation (Ahrenberg, et al., 1995; HCRC, Carletta, et al., 1996; DAMSL, Allen Core, 1997). Julius Caesar was neither a kind leader nor was he an understanding ruler; from his egotistical actions, his violent attacks and scandals with Cleopatra, and his controversy throughout Rome as leader in all its simplicity, I am undoubtedly certain Julius Caesar was a villain in disguise. First of all, Julius Caesar was an egotistical leader. He wore purple robes, a symbol of kings and vanity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same. Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance. Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. • 42. Essay On Irish Imperialism Until the 19th century European society was based upon single individuals and dynasties of families. The nucleus of a group revolved around the centralized power of monarchs with no real sense of national ties. Although communities claimed similar ethnicities and religious beliefs the unity of this was limited by miniscule differences. Countries were greatly divided by this schism, Protestants deeply mistrusted Catholics, Saxon and Hessen Germans were old rivals and French forcible conquests of foreign monarchies created territorial tension. The home rule issue would dominate Irish politics for nearly 50 years until 1919, when extremist nationals would attain control of local governments and officially declare the Irish Republic (Campbell 624 630.) • 43. How White Tailed Deer Affect Native And Invasive Plant... How White tailed Deer Effect Native and Invasive Plant Species Populations in the Eastern United States. Introduction Whitetail deer have come to be known as a keystone species, species known for affecting other organisms in an ecosystem. Deer are known as a keystone species in forest habitats such as in the Eastern United States because they are capable of destroying potential forest habitat of other organisms (McShea and Rappole, 1992). For example, deer have a negative impact on forest ecosystems by trampling and over browsing over vegetation, without creating any habitat for other native species. Throughout the eastern United States, the abundance of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) has increased dramatically over the last century (Taggart and Long, 2015). Population increases could be due to increased habitat fragmentation from land development, reduced predators and/or hunting pressure. Individual deer ranges varied during seasonal times, deer movements are usually greatest during the peak breeding months from late fall through winter (Williams et. al, 2012). Regardless of the cause, high deer densities can have significant effects on plant communities such as plant decay and/or even death. Deer consume a large amounts of plant biomass (leaves, buds, flowers and fruits) and directly reduce the growth, reproduction, and survival of herbaceous and woody plant species (Shen et. al, 2016). • 45. Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism... Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe. From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand, Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure is, therefore, a social ... • 47. The Fundamental Issues Within The Romanian And Indian Culture In this essay I will analyse the fundamental issues within the Romanian and Indian culture, progressing then to understand the leadership that each culture creates and attracts. I will also present a set of potential solutions for each of them individually, and for working together, as well as make comparisons between my findings and Hofstede s. Leadership in Romania is built upon the belief in a higher ordeal, therefore either on religion, or a feeling of servitude towards God, or for the benefit of culture. The leadership that appeals to people and motivates them to do more and be proactive, is the one that appeals to their inner sense of duty. If that is lacking, the only second best option within the national Romanian culture is the military leadership style. The later we have seen enforced for the past decades, and is defined by an enforcement of power; this is at the other end of the spectrum to the desired assuming of power and responsibility that duty is defined by, and Romanians so desire (Hurduzeu, 2015). Regarding the above mentioned as true, there are two major solutions for bringing positive change in Romania. People either learn how to draw their sense of purpose from their ongoing daily activities, becoming leaders in their daily endeavours , and therefore live and act in a way that reflects their sense and need of duty or they wait for a national leader to instill this sense into them. This polarity of choice is described by our intermediate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
