Psalm 23 Essay
Psalm 23 it is one of the most famous psalms in the bible. This psalm is so famous because of his
meaning and use of literary figures such as metaphors. The meaning behind the psalm is often not
quite understand. Most people can read and see the lines of Psalm 23, but few of them are capable
to truly understand the meaning behind its powerful message. To have a full appreciation of the
meaning of this psalm, it is important to understand the context, literary figures, poetic features,
grammar and structure of this psalm. The first line is perhaps the most famous in all the psalms. Its
power derives from the crisp use of metaphor the assumed, rather than directly stated, comparison
between Godand a shepherd. The comparison made in this psalm... Show more content on

This psalm lacks some important poetic features that are normally used in a literary and poetic
work. There is a lack of symmetry, of word pairing, of chiastic patterns, and of figure. Despite the
absence of these common literary and poetic devices, there is still the presence of poetic imagery
shown in some verses for example the image of a shepherd looking out for his flock in verse one.
This psalm also contains semantic coherence, and terseness of style. Even though this psalm is
different from other psalms, in overall in contains a good use of literary and poetic devices that are
important in a poem.
This poem contains two important images that help to understand its meaning which are the
Lord as Shepherd shown in verse one and the Lord as Host shown in verse five. These images
help to understand how God works with His people and how important people is for Him. This
psalm also contains sets in the context of three scenes: a calm pasture in verse one, a dark valley
in verse four, and a royal feast in verses five and six. Through these scenes, this psalm can serves
as an example of what is true of the entire flock which the Lord cares for each individual within the

1. The point of this essay was to reflect over the personalities and situations of the characters in a
different point of view. To make the point clearer, I would not use excessive words and be
straightforward.
2. The strongest aspect of this essay was that the author really puts their selves into the characters
position and reflects over the situation in another point of view. A quote from the essaythat proves
this aspect is: Honestly, if I were in Joanna s position I would be very offended, because in my
mind, I ve opened up my home to someone who is practically a stranger, I know nothing about
them besides the fact she was sitting in a police car when I first met her, and that her mother is

A quote that perfectly describes this aspect is: This is not something unusual for adult, but these
kids are maybe five and six, and for a five and six year old to be dressed so nicely without getting
any of their garments the slightest bit dirty or for them to not even complain once, that is
something that is beyond rare, especially for that age group.
3. Some areas that required me to read more than once to understand were:

Poor Apple, being forced to do something she really does not want to do, being insulted by her

Book Report On Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes By Chris Crutcher
Courage isn t always about defeating the villain. Courage is about smaller more simple acts
throughout the day. Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher is a book about Eric
Calhoune and Sarah Byrns who are both outcast in high school for how they look. When Sarah
suddenly goes quiet and Eric learns her secret and everything changes. The people that show
courage in Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes are Sarah Byrns, Eric Calhoune, and Brittain. They
show courage by small everyday acts that can turn people s life around. Throughout this book
Sarah Byrns shows a lot of courage. One of the biggest things she did that showed courage is
when she came home to her mean abusive father everyday knowing that she was going to get
abused nd knowing that h could do worse things then just burn her face. (All throughout beginning
of book) This took a lot of courage because she couldn t go or do anything to stop her father so she

Byrns that he knew were Sarah was but he wasn t going to tell him where she is. (236 239). The
reason why this took so much courage is because this showed Mr. Byrnes how much Eric cared
and loved Sarah that he would risk his life for Sarah because he knows that she would do the
same for him. He knew that Mr. Byrnes was going to be mad he could have just not told Mr.
Byrnes but he wanted to get Mr. Byrnes angry. Sometimes courage isn t the smartest thing to do
it s the thing you think is best. Another place that Eric showed courage is when Eric and his
Teacher Ms. Lemry went out and tried to find Sarah when she ran away from home. (277 279)
This took courage from Eric because he knew that Mr. Byrnes was on the loose and that they
could cross paths and if they did he would try to kill Eric. That s way it shows so much courage
that he would put his life on the line for someone else and that s true

Absentee Voting in the United States
The U.S Constitution gives the states considerable latitude in the way of conducting elections. The
American citizens have many opportunities to vote. However, a turnout in American elections has
dramatically decreased over the past several decades. In order to address this issue, majority of
states have allowed absentee votingreforms. These convenient reforms are thought to increase the
voter turnout in the elections, as well as to reduce administrative costs. There are several forms of
absentee voting that are believed to improve overall voting quality. Permanent absentee voting is
one of them. This particular rule allows the voter to vote absentee without requesting an absentee
ballot for each election(Sabato 2013, 98). Generally, permanent absentee voting was available for
military voter and individuals with disabilities in order to increase certain categories of voters.
Currently, According to National Conference of State Legislatures, every state permits an absentee
ballot to certain voters. While 27 states allow no excuse absentee voting, in other 21 states the
excuse is required. Eight states including Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia,
Hawaii, Montana, New Jersey and Utah offer voters the option to register for no excuse permanent
absentee voter status. Five states such as Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri and West
Virginia, allow permanent absentee voter status for voters with disability. While Alaska and

The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution set people away from farms and small villages and moved them to cities
and towns because of the job opportunities that arose in the cities. The Industrial Revolution not
only helped people move along in the late 1700s and early 1800s but also it has made the people
what they are today. During the Industrial Revolution, the movement from an agrarian society to an
industrial one reshaped the roles of families, widen the gap between classes, and led to the
developments in communication, transportation, and other scientific fields that completely
changed humanity.
The Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s and early 1800s which helped the transition
from agrarian to one of industrial. Before the factories were made, the common folk would work
on the farms that would make the food that they would need to survive, and they would also make
their own clothes. All the clothes and materials that the people had before the industrial revolution
they would make themselves because there was no mass production of items being made and the
people who would sell the items never had enough in their inventory for everyone to buy. Factories
started to arise making it easier to mass produce items that the people wanted, like cloths and
eventually everyday materials. Those factories and opportunities for work is why people moved
into cities.( History.com)

Architecture in the Store Structure Essay
Architecture in the Store Structure
As I walk through University Towne Centre Mall, I notice tucked away in a somewhat secluded
part of the mall the store Structure. Structure is a men s clothing and accessory store. Hanging in
the large glass windows of the store are colored posters of handsome men dressed from head to toe
in the latest Structure fashions. Structure has adopted the Greek Ionic Column as part of it s
building plan. Painted on the front windows of the store are small silhouette images of an idealized
Greek temple. The Greek architectural elements that have been used to decorate and symbolize
Structure, are in perfect condition. In fact, one could even go far enough to imagine that they were
standing in Athens thousands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an image that can be portrayed onto the merchandise Structure sells as well. Even the name
of the store is key when it comes to wanting quality. The word structure has a permeance about it,
therefore, when I think of the word structure I think of something that has been engineered by a
genius ages ahead of their time, another selling point to tell to your customer. Sir, oh sir, those
slacks look stunning on you, did you know that an engineer at Harvard designed them for longevity
and comfort? Of course this probably is not true, but with a name like Structure, anything is
possible.
Inside the store you are surrounded by vignettes containing small Greek columns, which are again
referring to the timeless quality that surrounds you. The clothes that they sell are displayed on
hangers on a rod that is held by a pair of flanked stylized columns. When you reach for a shirt to
try on, you are choosing something that is imaged as pure quality and style.
Temples were built by the Greeks and were made to serve a variety of purposes. Whatever the
occasion was, Greek temples were of easy access, with all four sides being open. The store
Structure is not built so all walls are open to the public, that type of construction would not last long
this day in age. You enter Structure from one door and exit through the same one. Once inside the

The Problem Of The Healthcare Crisis Essay
There is a sad sort of irony these days when using the phrase healthcare. Is the focus truly on the
health or care of the patients any longer, or on the potential earnings of insurance companies and
other stockholders?
Since the introduction of the third party payor concept decades ago, the industry has set the stage
for insurance company management of healthcare. This paradigm has ensured that the costs of care
remain high while the quality has diminished.
What (or Who) is Behind the Current Crisis?
Singling out one specific cause of the healthcare crisis is like trying to name one thing that s wrong
with boy bands there are simply far too many things to point to.
If we had to list some of the reasons consumers and providers alike are finding it difficult to
navigate the current landscape, we would include things like reimbursements being fixed at
lowering rates, overhead expenses increasing for physicians, a constant influx of insurance and
government mandates, more paperwork and bureaucracy in medicine in general, malpractice
litigation, understaffing of hospitals and private practices, complex policies leading to lack of
interoperability, and diminished patient and doctor engagement.
There is also the fact that the industry has become increasingly fragmented. Consider that nearly
50% of healthcare spending in this country is publicly funded by federal, state, and county level
governments through various entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the

The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda(NES) is a high fantasy action adventure video game series created by
Japanese game designers Takashi Tezuka and Shigeru Miyamoto. It was developed and published
by Nintendo. The main platforms associated with this game include: Game boy, Nintendo64,
Gamecube, Wii, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Legend of Zelda plots centers on a
boy named Link whose goal is to collect the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to

In the Legend of Zelda, the sword less speed running game completely transformed the game.
Sword less speed running is played by gamers who yearn for a challenge it s a normal run, except
that you can t use a sword throughout the game until you encounter, Gannon. Gannon cannot be
killed without a sword, unlike the other enemies in the game who can be killed using a bomb,
candles, wands, and boomerangs. This is the fastest strategy to complete the game, because you are
not focused in killing the enemies, but rather on dashing through levels as fast as possible. The
sword less community defied the instructions of the developers, because the sword was intended to
be used throughout the game. This community believed that the normal rules were too easy and as
a result made their own rules to enhance the challenge and fun aspects of the game. Nevertheless,
this community exploited the game because they found a way to surpass this rule. Yes, the primary
objective is to find a weapon but that necessarily doesn t have to be the sword, this community
learned that they can utilize candles, bombs, and arrows to use against enemies. Players who
perform speed runs often record their attempts, these recordings entertain others, verify the time
achieved. To accomplish a high level of play, speed runners approach

Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly.
The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual
arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly
used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in
matters of speech, gesture and clothing.
There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy.
An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct;
a society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals.
The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious.
The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it
dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and
personal importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and
Will Ladislaw in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative
reading to desire s function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and
Novel reading as a Critical Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and
perpetually desirous novel reader. Kurnick argues that Middlemarch as a 19th century novel

Frictional Force Lab
The labs was about sliding surfaces and frictional force. The measurements were in Newtons. There
was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper.
You will have to measure with a spring scale. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five
surface. You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the
sliding surfaces creates frictional force.
In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times
the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number
you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by
three 0.81(N). The average for waxed paper was 0.43(N), for paper towel 0.37(N), fine sand paper

You will double the area and keep the weight safe, than triple the area and keep it the weight the
same. Last but not least when you four times the area and keeps the weight the same. When you
double the area and same weight what will happen to the friction. Same as triple and four times
the area and keep the weight the same. I said increase because I thought if you add more the
friction will add a tiny bit more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay
the same, the sliding friction does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and
frictional force. Also when you slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the
same, increase and or decrease the numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one
was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase or decrease. In graph 2 4.2, you had to graph the averages of
the overall forces. For example you will mark the depend and impend variable. Then graph the table

Lesser Developed Countries
Paul Collier is the author of The Bottom Billion a 2007 book about Lesser Developed Countries
(LDCs) and why they struggle to progress despite vast amounts of foreign aid. Collier makes the
argument that while much of LDCs are becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and
Central Asia who is stuck due to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is
in Africa. According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the
bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal civil war.
Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil war and the war itself
lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is partly due to the large amount of
available young men who are out of work and ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of
the state, this becomes quite easy. The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved
due to the potential of profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and
according to Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when the
fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost all of the world s
hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement. Low income, slow growth, and
commodity export dependence make up the top three attributes of a high civil war risk country,
which is hard to live down after it begins, since

Compare And Contrast Essay About Life In A Combat Zone
Life in a combat zone
Numerous amounts of people would assume that all deployment areas are the same, however each

Afghanistan and Bahrain, two totally different war zones. Some of the ways these two countries are

Deployment is something you can never mentally prepare yourself for no matter how countless

were very positive, however the family life made growing up somewhat negative. During most
of Goodwin s life, her mother suffered from different illnesses that would cause problems in the
household. Most of the time, her mother, Helen, was too sick to have company over, which was
very stereotypical during that time. When television came around, the family would host
gatherings. When Helen was asked if she could have more gatherings Helen would reply, but I
simply can t do it. Even now, I am so exhausted just from having everyone here that I ve got to lie

could not because Helen was so sick. Goodwin stated that, For as long as I can remember, she
was a surrogate mother, looking out for me, taking care of me when my mother was sick
(Goodwin 37). Goodwin would recall many stories of Jeanne doing tasks that their mother would

Essay about Hellfire and Damnation
Hellfire and Damnation Looking back on my childhood, I have many memories shrouded in fear
and self loathing. I was raised in the Baptist church. My mother and grandmother made sure that I
attended church every Sunday morning. My grandmother was from the mid west. She carried her
strict Bible belt background with her as she traveled west with my grandfather. The many lessons I
learned from my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to
see the world and my place in it.
It would seem, looking back now, that the whole basis for my teachings during those early years
was fear. I had the most intense fear of going to Hell. The only thing one had to know about Hell
was that it was the place where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were rotten to the core. We did not deserve Gods love or anyone s love, yet God loved us
anyway. That made God a really great guy.
My interpretation of this particular sermon was that I was a horrible person not worthy of love. I
was a sinner and I was going to Hell. I would cry myself to sleep at night because I was so sure that
I would be one of those lost souls for all of eternity. The minister talked of redemption. All I had to
do to be saved and get into heaven was confess my sins and ask for forgiveness.
I was sure, however, that I had far too many sins to be forgiven; besides, I wasn t really sorry for
most of my sins. I could not feel bad about questioning my parents and the church s authority.
Most of the time it seemed that they contradicted themselves or just didn t make any sense at all.
I had a very hard time digesting the teachings of the church that included both a God who would
demand killing and sacrifice and the same God who would love and protect his children. Due to
the teachings I received and with so many people being in agreement, I just figured they must be
right on some level, which made me the odd man out and the one destined to pay with my soul.
All I had to do was to take a look at the Ten Commandments to see that I was not doing so well in
the eyes of the Lord. You must not Murder, I hadn t done that. You must not commit adultery. I didn
t even know what that meant. You must not

The group always comes before the individual. There is a hierarchy within the groups, and status or
title is very important. Because of this, there are several social differences between the Chinese and
Muslim groups. One difference is that the Chinese are the minority but own and control much of
the business operations in Indonesia. Regardless of the group, however, always use someone s
formal title in introductions, and greetings. It is a good idea to have a local partner or translator to
help westerners navigate the complex social differences within the Indonesian population.
Appropriate Greetings in Relationship to the Different Cultures and Sexes The Chinese are more
formal with their greetings and introductions. These greetings are meant to show respect. Usually a
handshake is appropriate, however, take your time, a slight bow shows politeness. One might
include the word Selamat pagi which means Good Morning (Just Landed, n.d., p.1). But, one must
remember to never use this greeting after ten in the morning because after which is the afternoon.
The proper term to say then would be Selamat siang which means Good Day (Just Landed, n.d.,

Creating Reality Within The Theater
Creating Reality in the Theater Theater was about attracting the middle class crowd to see their
play but also to please the audience. For many years in theater much of it presented false or
unrealistic concepts. Many authors of playwrights were accustomed to the idea of showcasing
productions that could not happen in real life. Around the late 19th century, there was a push for
creating more of an authentic and truthful piece of work. The movement was known as realism,
which is the representation of familiar things in a way that is accurate or true to life (Google).
Reality is the state of things as they actually exist and is the perception of things as they actual
exists (Google). In Miss Julie written by August Strindberg, this play displayed his attempt at
representing realism. Creating reality in theater requires implanting realistic points such as
characters, actions, and dialogue that is accurate to real life. Characters are a main part of a play.
Establishing characters with relatable backgrounds to people and depth makes the work more
believable to the viewer or reader. Miss Julie, who is twenty five years of age and the main character
, she reveals a lot of information about her past.
I learnt from her to mistrust and hate men, for, so far as I could hear, she always hated men and I
swore to her that I would never be a man s slave ( Strindberg 30). This quote gives the reader
background information about her mother s past. Her mother spent her life with

Marketing Swot and Pest Analysis on Aston Martin 2008
The current economic crisis has spread havoc across local and global markets. There can be no
place for doubt that certain automobile manufacturers and retailers would also suffer to some extent
from the catastrophe. The car industry is a huge entity that has several different subdivisions, and it
is quite intriguing to see how consumer behaviour shifts across these sublevels of the automobile
market and how different brands engage in dealing with the arising instability. Aston Martinis one of
the most famous UK brands and one of the top marquees for top end sports cars in the entire world.

suffered a 26% fall in its sales, year to year figures dropping from a total of 1978 sales up until
last year s November to 1479 units up until the same month this year (Moody 2008 p. 44). As

Othello And The Laboratory, Porphyria s Lover And...
17/03/15 Controlled Assessment Explore the ways the writers present villains in Othello and The
Laboratory, Porphyria s lover and Education for Leisure In all four texts, the disruption of
relationships and villainy can be seen to be caused by characters struggling with personal
insecurities, evoking almost a sense of inner conflict. Browning explores the power struggle
between men and women while Shakespeare questions the way in which society imposes gender
and racial identity. Both Browning and Duffy consider the ways in which the controlling aspects of
a relationship can almost cause destructive love, extreme sexual jealousy and simple villainy even
Iagostates, He hath done my office suggesting that, the green eyed monster may have struck another
victim and created a most evil man. Othellobegins with a quarrel of sorts between Iago and
Roderigo, and, as such, it serves several functions. Its tone easily catches our interest, and it
reveals Iago s true nature: he must make amends to Roderigo for failing to arouse Desdemona s
interest in him. After all, Iago intends to keep a hand in the wealthy nobleman s pocket, which,
Roderigo says belongs to Iago as if the strings were thine. Iago apologizes profusely for failing
Roderigo and claims that he never dreamed that such an elopement might occur: If I ever did
dream of such a matter, he says Abhor me. Exactly how long Iago has been capitalising upon the

My independent reading book, Beloved by Toni Morrison, was so full of heavy emotion. I really
admire Toni Morrison s use of language. She gives so much detail that I feel like I am there
experiencing everything that Sethe is experiencing. She creates an irie suspense that bad things
have happened in Sethe s past and reveals them one by one as Sethe remember and lives through
these memories. Morrison beautifully conveys the message that the past cannot be forgotten, it is
always to be with us no matter how much we say we have forgotten it. The horrid memories that
we put to death will always hurt, because anything dead coming back to life hurts. (Morrison) The

If you show you are interested in what they are saying it builds their confidence and makes them
feel like they are important and shows them they are making a valued contribution. If what you re
told relates to a forthcoming event, such as a birthday or holiday, remembering this for the next
time you see them also reinforces the fact that you were interested and were listening to what they
had to say.
By being approachable and a good listener it gives the child confidence to speak to the individual
should there be anything wrong where they need to confide in someone.
Conversely, if the Teaching Assistant is in a bad mood, possibly conveyed by poor body
language, or if they are distracted when a child is talking, thereby giving mixed messages, it can
have a negative impact on the child. If a child is talking and the Teaching Assistants body language
shows they are not fully listening, such as if they are looking away or talking over them, this passes
on the message that they are not interested in what the child has to say and the child may not bother
taking the time to speak to the Teaching Assistant again in the future.
If the Teaching Assistants negative behaviour manifests itself as shouting and taking out their
temper and frustration on the children, the children

departments provide quality services to the extent that people trust them more than the critics can

But the recent study of 2004 2005 found the opposite. They discovered that bus systems operated by
municipal and county work more efficiently because managers can handle the incompatible
pressures from different stakeholders (Goodsell, 2015). To some extent, government can save
money through contracting out some of it functions to the private companies. Moreover, there is
also an assumption that bureaucracy is growing larger day by day which weakens personal liberty.
The size of growth fluctuates, but the number is increasing at both state and local governments and
decreasing at the federal government.
Strengths of bureaucracy
More trained personnel than contract workers. It has more money to subsidize certain services
when private companies that operated bus systems went out of business. Moreover, most changes
are initiated by the bureaucrats not elected officials (Goodsell, 2015). Most celebrated innovations
were facilitated by bureaucrats. These are signs of their strengths.
Weakness of bureaucracy
Some government programs are poorly designed programs and it takes government some time to
rectify the system like the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) due to processing
time which spiked at some stage.
True or false stories about critics
It is untrue that all bureaucrats are arrogant to their clients and want to control them. This is
dispelled by the interviews that Goodsell

What is Business Analytics? Business analytics (BA) is a method combining skills,

Movie For Alien
Filming for Alien began on Wednesday, 5th July 1978.
In addition to the seven main cast members, over 200 technicians were hired to construct the film s
three principal sets. These included the interiors of the Nostromo, the surface of the planetoid and
the derelict spacecraft.
Several of the Nostromo s corridors were created from portions of scrapped aircraft bombers. A
mirror was used to create the illusion of them being far longer in length. Low resolution computer
monitors and large transistors were applied throughout the ship s set to give off a used industrial
look. This wasn t a shimmering future crammed with state of the art tech; it was a rundown vision
of tomorrow cobbled together with whatever happened to be available.

Giger came up with the idea of the chestburster from the Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a
Crucifixion painting by Francis Bacon. His earliest designs looked like giant featherless chickens,
however he soon removed the limbs and reduced its size to create the snakelike creature inevitably
used.
None of the cast were informed they were filming the chestburster sequence prior to shooting it.
Ridley Scott s reasons for this was to make the reactions of Kane s fellow crew members appear
more real.
In order to create the illusion of Kane lying on the table as the chestburster broke through his ribs,
an artificial chest was built and screwed to the table which John Hurt stood beneath. Prosthetics in
the late 70s weren t as good as they are today, so Scott stuffed the fake chest cavity with organs
purchased from a local butchers. Hoses were ran across the set to pump the stage blood

Modernism Vs Imperialism
Modernization has always been the objective for growing colonies and empires. The current
generation of today s time still aims to modernize and grow as a nation. However, the past holds
many mistakes and misconceptions about how the world can continue to modernize given specific
circumstances and factors. Today, historians, citizens and many others look over these past events
and learn from the complications made from previous leaders. One great example of a horrific
imperial occurrence is portrayed by King Leopold II of Belgium. Within his time of ruling he
displayed manipulation, ignorance and gruesome consequences of corruption. He took the
opportunity to create prosperity out of the Congo Free Stateand turned it cold with unethical
dishonesty, brutality and corrupt power. With all of his planning going to waste, King Leopold
showed all of history how combining imperialism with modernity can turn to the absolute worst
for humanity. To begin, imperialism had always been a long term system of governing. Empires
were built, colonies were created, and growth occurred to make today s world. It was always
seen that the king of an empire knew what was best for his nation. He was given the power to
make impacting decisions and lead his empire to success. However, many kings were found
corrupted and abused their powers for their own benefit. King Leopold used his skills to try to
persuade his people and neighboring nations into believing that the CongoState was the best

Comparing The Real Inspector Hound And Deathtrap
In both The Real Inspector Hound and Deathtrap, the authors Tom Stoppard and Iva Levin,
respectively, use the play within a play to enhance the idea of reality as well as to suggest the
power of illusion over reality. In Tom Stoppard s The Real Inspector Hound, the two narratives
become entangled and nearly impossible to separate. The playbegins with two distinct narrative
arcs: the action at Muldoon manor, the play within a play, and the two theater critics, Moon and
Birdboot, watching the play. However by the end of the play, Moon and Birdboot are literally
caught up in the drawing room murder mystery that they are supposed to be reviewing. Made to
function within two structural units, the characters acquire one identity in the outer play their real
identities and another in the inner play. However, the distinction between the identities, and, even,
between the plays,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In it s entirety, Deathtrap is an illusion in which Clifford Anderson s play, like the actual play
itself, is entitled Deathtrap, and is also a one set, five character thriller. However, unlike a
traditional play, Myra is the sole audience member to Sidney Bruhl and Clifford Anderson s
performance. Myra is convinced of a reality where Bruhl is willing to kill Anderson in order to
steal his script. But when Anderson seemingly rises from the dead and apparently beats Bruhl to
death, Myra, shocked and terrified, drops dead of a heart attack. At this moment, Anderson
declares that their plan has been successful: Anderson s murder had been staged to shock and kill
Myra. Anderson and Bruhl s mini play created a false sense of reality to which Myra fell victim.
This skewing of reality becomes the basis for Deathtrap as a whole since Anderson and Bruhl s
original illusion shape all of the following

Essay about Bix Beiderbecke
BIX BEIDERBECKE The virtuoso Leon Bix Beiderbecke was born in 1903 and died young in
1931. Though his life was short, Bix s legacy was long live. He was raised in Davenport, Iowa,
by his mother Agatha and father Bismark. He was the youngest of the German middle class
family, his father owned a lumber amp; coal company in east davenport while his mother was a
pianist. As a boy, Bix Beiderbeckehad a few piano lessons, but he was self taught on cornet and
developed an unorthodox technique by playing. He was blessed with the gift of a musical ear
which helped him greatly throughout his career because he was not able to read music very well.
Growing up Bix found his passion, which was to become a musician, it seemed that he would not let

more subdued manner with low and melodic notes. Biederbecke was known for putting solos
and creating a fluid sound. He had a unsual way of stringing together note choices. Bix was way
ahead of his time and influence many people for the next couple of decades. He played and gave
the audiences another option to listen to. Beiderbecke developed a beautiful and original style.
His cornet playing, noted for its brilliant phrasing and its clarity of tone. Beiderbecke also played
and composed at the piano throughout his working life, his famous pieces include In a Mist,
Flashes, Candlelights, and In the Dark. Their use of pandiatonicism, whole tone scales, and parallel
7th and 9th chords reflect his interest in impressionist harmonic language. Bix Beiderbecke played
cornet on four number one hit records in 1928 recorded with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra:
Together , number one for two weeks, Ramona , number one for three weeks, My Angel ,
number one for six weeks, and Ol Man River , with Bing Crosby on vocals, was number one for
one week. By contrast, Louis Armstrong did not have any number one records in the 1920s. Ol
Man River would be the first of 41 number one hits for Bing Crosby during his career.
Beiderbecke s originality made him one of the first white jazz musicians to be admired by black
performers. Louis Armstrong

implying that if you want the world to change, you are the only one that can kick it off. You can

Stronger by Jeff Bauman, Jeff decides that he wants to walk, and he dedicates himself to that goal.
He doesn t simply have the choice to let someone else walk for him. In the beginning of the book,
Jeff Bauman is a normal guy, but by the end, he has transformed into a brand new individual.
Throughout the narrative, he changed the lives of countless people. He assisted in catching the

The Australian Healthcare System Has Been Evolving Since...
Introduction The Australian healthcare system has been evolving since the beginning of the
colonisation of Australia. Today, Australia has an extremely efficient healthcare system although it
still has several issues. The influencing factors, structure, and current issues of the Australian
healthcare system will be throughly discussed and explained in this essay.
Influencing Factors When Australia was first colonised, health services were considered to be an
issue to be dealt with by local governments (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d.). In 1901, the Constitution made health care the responsibility of the state governments and
stated that the Federal Government was only in charge of quarantine issues (Evolution of ... Show

In 1928, a national health insurance scheme was proposed but not implemented because it would
have required businesses to provide contributions to health insurance for their employees (Evolution
of Government Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Another national health insurance scheme was
proposed in 1938 but it was also rejected (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). The next proposal was the 1945 Pharmaceuticals Benefits Act. This Act
was not implemented because the Australian Medical Association challenged it in the High Court
of Australia and it was decided that parliament had exceeded its constitutional power (Hilless Healy,
2001). In 1946, under the Hospital Benefits Act, the Commonwealth began to subsidise public
hospitals under the condition that patients would not be charged (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). This act is similar to the current Medicare
system. Australia s first national health plan was introduced in 1950 (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Five years after the first attempt at a Pharmaceutical Benefits
Act, the Australian Government implemented the 1950 Pharmaceutical Benefits Act, which is still
in effect today (Hilless Healy, 2001). In 1953, the National Health Act was introduced by The

Dolores Huerta
Latina Leader
For thousands of years immigration to the United States has been considered one of the biggest
problems and has been one of the topics most talked about, especially in this year, being one of
the favorite topics to talk about in the presidential debates. Yet, due to speeches given by President
Donald Trump little is known and talked about the problems immigrants, especially Latinos face
day by day, socially and economically. By being a minority in the United Statesit has been very
difficult for immigrant farm workers to get where they are now and have more opportunities than
before the 1970s. Fortunately, there have been organizations and leaders that have helped
immigrants through the years, one of these being Dolores Huerta. ... Show more content on

Socially Huerta fought against discrimination and racism against Latinos, but she did not only help
the Latino community, but she also helped fight for women s rights. Although there hasn t been a
complete elimination discrimination against minorities and women in the whole country there has
been a big improvement. It was while she was working in New York, where she met feminist
Gloria Steinem, who inspired her to start a feminist movement (Dolores Huerta). Another big
social change is that Latinos became more involved in politics each year. Especially in this year s
elections Latinos have proved to have a big influence in state politics as their power have boosted
the concentration on the Democratic side as 22 out of 24 are democratic (Los Angeles Times). Now
in days Dolores Huerta has continued to influence politicians and organizations to continue helping
the Latino/immigrant community. One of these being the U visa program which has helped to
encourage more than 2000 immigrants that have suffered from domestic violence to report these
crimes without having to fear that they will be deported (Kaitlyn Schallhorn). Politicians such as
Jerry Brown in California have also helped the Latino community by providing $ 176.6 million to
fix and clean houses (California Latino Legislative).
Dolores Huerta has not taken for granted as shown by today and the previous year, her legacy
continues as she herself countess helping the Latino community. Creating the United Farm Workers
association and helping pass the Agricultural relation acts as being without a doubt one of the most
and significant things that Dolores has done to help the immigrant and Latino community

The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity
It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom
committed a crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than
what is necessary, but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime.
This approach is applied in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational
choice, chosen because they perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice
and choose to do criminal acts due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of
Criminology, 2012) Cesare Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced
several attributions to the justice system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with
Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest
amount of good for the most people . (Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997)
The Classical Theory has resulted in positive advancements in the justice system for various
reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking utilitarian models designed to promote the public good
(Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to
temper harsh punishments of their times (Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the
justice system because communities independently choose the crimereduction strategy which they
are comfortable with, and believe will

International Law And Public Law
When discussing international law, there are two possible situations that generate
misunderstanding. One is that consensus over specific cases or universal recognition of certain
principles has not been reached among different actors. Therefore the international law fails to
provide guidance as to its conception of justice. The other situation is that international law per se is
not well respected by the actors in the international community. The credibility and inviolability of
law is therefore degraded by frequent breaches in practice. Louis Henkin s quotation in the question
mainly concerns the second situation, where international law, as a type of law, is under challenge
in an anarchical international system. This argument in fact touches upon a primary discussion
regarding the character of international law and the nature of the international society in which the
law resides. This answer argues that international law, in contrast with domestic law, is less credible
but more political because of the lack of a sole superior power to constitute, determine and enforce
the law. The argumentation will unfold against three key elements of law: creation of law, rights of
determination, and power of enforcement. The approach is to examine the distinctions between
international and domestic law, and to find out the nature of international law that accounts for
these distinctions. i. Creation of law Unlike modern domestic law created by legislation and

Essay on All American Students Must Learn Standard English
All American Students Must Learn Standard English
What are words? A simple question such as this would in theory demand only a simple answer.
Words, however, take such an abundance of forms that creating a truly inclusive definition for the
notion of words is daunting. In its physical manifestation, a word is little more than air passing over
taut tendons, forming sounds which are accented by flicks of the tongue against the teeth and roof
of the mouth. These sounds are arranged in patterns that come to be recognized and accepted as
words. But are these sounds all that words represent? certainly not. Words command power.
Although the defiant playground motto states that sticks and stones may break bones, but words
can never hurt, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Geneva Smitherman, in her book Talkin and Testifyin, standardEnglish as we know
it today flourished in the eighteenth century to fill the void left by the decline of Latin (186).
African American Vernacular English, or Ebonics, also formed to meet a specific need. Contrary
to popular belief, Ebonics rose out of 19th Century southern slave culture, not out of repeated use
of sloppy speech. Slaves who were strictly oppressed by their masters were not allowed to
peaceably assemble or meet with each other for any purpose. Such freedom, slave owners feared,
could foster coercive ideas amongst their slaves. Slaves, therefore, needed a language that would
allow them to communicate with each other in a clandestine manner. Ebonics rose to meet this
need (Smitherman 19). Using Ebonics, slaves were able to communicate behind their masters backs
and form a unity that was instrumental in the perseverance of African American culture through the
unspeakable trials of slavery.
Almost one hundred and forty years after Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation ended
slavery, the need which Ebonics originally rose to meet is no longer present. In its place, a new
need has arisen the need for increased social mobility. Statistics show that a cycle of poverty has
formed in which a disadvantaged African American child has little chance in his lifetime of ever
advancing appreciably beyond the social

  • 2. Psalm 23 Essay Psalm 23 it is one of the most famous psalms in the bible. This psalm is so famous because of his meaning and use of literary figures such as metaphors. The meaning behind the psalm is often not quite understand. Most people can read and see the lines of Psalm 23, but few of them are capable to truly understand the meaning behind its powerful message. To have a full appreciation of the meaning of this psalm, it is important to understand the context, literary figures, poetic features, grammar and structure of this psalm. The first line is perhaps the most famous in all the psalms. Its power derives from the crisp use of metaphor the assumed, rather than directly stated, comparison between Godand a shepherd. The comparison made in this psalm... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This psalm lacks some important poetic features that are normally used in a literary and poetic work. There is a lack of symmetry, of word pairing, of chiastic patterns, and of figure. Despite the absence of these common literary and poetic devices, there is still the presence of poetic imagery shown in some verses for example the image of a shepherd looking out for his flock in verse one. This psalm also contains semantic coherence, and terseness of style. Even though this psalm is different from other psalms, in overall in contains a good use of literary and poetic devices that are important in a poem. This poem contains two important images that help to understand its meaning which are the Lord as Shepherd shown in verse one and the Lord as Host shown in verse five. These images help to understand how God works with His people and how important people is for Him. This psalm also contains sets in the context of three scenes: a calm pasture in verse one, a dark valley in verse four, and a royal feast in verses five and six. Through these scenes, this psalm can serves as an example of what is true of the entire flock which the Lord cares for each individual within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Peer Review Peer Review of Writing in Process 1. The point of this essay was to reflect over the personalities and situations of the characters in a different point of view. To make the point clearer, I would not use excessive words and be straightforward. 2. The strongest aspect of this essay was that the author really puts their selves into the characters position and reflects over the situation in another point of view. A quote from the essaythat proves this aspect is: Honestly, if I were in Joanna s position I would be very offended, because in my mind, I ve opened up my home to someone who is practically a stranger, I know nothing about them besides the fact she was sitting in a police car when I first met her, and that her mother is unstable, and ... Some areas that required me to read more than once to understand were: ...in my opinion no one should have a decision like that be n= made into an ultimatum. Poor Apple, being forced to do something she really does not want to do, being insulted by her technically step mom, and she lies to her about something that is very important to Apple. 4. Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher is a book about Eric Calhoune and Sarah Byrns who are both outcast in high school for how they look. When Sarah suddenly goes quiet and Eric learns her secret and everything changes. The people that show courage in Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes are Sarah Byrns, Eric Calhoune, and Brittain. They show courage by small everyday acts that can turn people s life around. Throughout this book Sarah Byrns shows a lot of courage. One of the biggest things she did that showed courage is when she came home to her mean abusive father everyday knowing that she was going to get abused nd knowing that h could do worse things then just burn her face. Byrns that he knew were Sarah was but he wasn t going to tell him where she is. (236 239). The reason why this took so much courage is because this showed Mr. Byrnes how much Eric cared and loved Sarah that he would risk his life for Sarah because he knows that she would do the same for him. He knew that Mr. Byrnes was going to be mad he could have just not told Mr. Byrnes but he wanted to get Mr. Byrnes angry. Sometimes courage isn t the smartest thing to do it s the thing you think is best. Another place that Eric showed courage is when Eric and his Teacher Ms. Lemry went out and tried to find Sarah when she ran away from home. (277 279) This took courage from Eric because he knew that Mr. Byrnes was on the loose and that they could cross paths and if they did he would try to kill Eric. • 5. Absentee Voting in the United States The U.S Constitution gives the states considerable latitude in the way of conducting elections. The American citizens have many opportunities to vote. However, a turnout in American elections has dramatically decreased over the past several decades. In order to address this issue, majority of states have allowed absentee votingreforms. These convenient reforms are thought to increase the voter turnout in the elections, as well as to reduce administrative costs. There are several forms of absentee voting that are believed to improve overall voting quality. Permanent absentee voting is one of them. This particular rule allows the voter to vote absentee without requesting an absentee ballot for each election(Sabato 2013, 98). Generally, permanent absentee voting was available for military voter and individuals with disabilities in order to increase certain categories of voters. Currently, According to National Conference of State Legislatures, every state permits an absentee ballot to certain voters. While 27 states allow no excuse absentee voting, in other 21 states the excuse is required. Eight states including Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Montana, New Jersey and Utah offer voters the option to register for no excuse permanent absentee voter status. Five states such as Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri and West Virginia, allow permanent absentee voter status for voters with disability. While Alaska and Delaware offer ... • 6. Industrial Of The Industrial Revolution Jason Thibodeaux Mrs. Martinez English IV, 1st hour 4/29/16 The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution set people away from farms and small villages and moved them to cities and towns because of the job opportunities that arose in the cities. The Industrial Revolution not only helped people move along in the late 1700s and early 1800s but also it has made the people what they are today. During the Industrial Revolution, the movement from an agrarian society to an industrial one reshaped the roles of families, widen the gap between classes, and led to the developments in communication, transportation, and other scientific fields that completely changed humanity. The Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s and early 1800s which helped the transition from agrarian to one of industrial. Before the factories were made, the common folk would work on the farms that would make the food that they would need to survive, and they would also make their own clothes. All the clothes and materials that the people had before the industrial revolution they would make themselves because there was no mass production of items being made and the people who would sell the items never had enough in their inventory for everyone to buy. Factories started to arise making it easier to mass produce items that the people wanted, like cloths and eventually everyday materials. Those factories and opportunities for work is why people moved into cities.( History.com) With families ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Architecture in the Store Structure Essay Architecture in the Store Structure As I walk through University Towne Centre Mall, I notice tucked away in a somewhat secluded part of the mall the store Structure. Structure is a men s clothing and accessory store. Hanging in the large glass windows of the store are colored posters of handsome men dressed from head to toe in the latest Structure fashions. Structure has adopted the Greek Ionic Column as part of it s building plan. Painted on the front windows of the store are small silhouette images of an idealized Greek temple. This is an image that can be portrayed onto the merchandise Structure sells as well. Even the name of the store is key when it comes to wanting quality. The word structure has a permeance about it, therefore, when I think of the word structure I think of something that has been engineered by a genius ages ahead of their time, another selling point to tell to your customer. Sir, oh sir, those slacks look stunning on you, did you know that an engineer at Harvard designed them for longevity and comfort? Of course this probably is not true, but with a name like Structure, anything is possible. Inside the store you are surrounded by vignettes containing small Greek columns, which are again referring to the timeless quality that surrounds you. The clothes that they sell are displayed on hangers on a rod that is held by a pair of flanked stylized columns. When you reach for a shirt to try on, you are choosing something that is imaged as pure quality and style. Temples were built by the Greeks and were made to serve a variety of purposes. Whatever the occasion was, Greek temples were of easy access, with all four sides being open. The store Structure is not built so all walls are open to the public, that type of construction would not last long this day in age. You enter Structure from one door and exit through the same one. • 8. The Problem Of The Healthcare Crisis Essay There is a sad sort of irony these days when using the phrase healthcare. Is the focus truly on the health or care of the patients any longer, or on the potential earnings of insurance companies and other stockholders? Since the introduction of the third party payor concept decades ago, the industry has set the stage for insurance company management of healthcare. This paradigm has ensured that the costs of care remain high while the quality has diminished. What (or Who) is Behind the Current Crisis? Singling out one specific cause of the healthcare crisis is like trying to name one thing that s wrong with boy bands there are simply far too many things to point to. If we had to list some of the reasons consumers and providers alike are finding it difficult to navigate the current landscape, we would include things like reimbursements being fixed at lowering rates, overhead expenses increasing for physicians, a constant influx of insurance and government mandates, more paperwork and bureaucracy in medicine in general, malpractice litigation, understaffing of hospitals and private practices, complex policies leading to lack of interoperability, and diminished patient and doctor engagement. There is also the fact that the industry has become increasingly fragmented. Consider that nearly 50% of healthcare spending in this country is publicly funded by federal, state, and county level governments through various entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the ... Gannon cannot be killed without a sword, unlike the other enemies in the game who can be killed using a bomb, candles, wands, and boomerangs. The sword less community defied the instructions of the developers, because the sword was intended to be used throughout the game. • 11. Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly. The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of speech, gesture and clothing. There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy. An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct; a society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals. The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious. The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and personal importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and Will Ladislaw in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative reading to desire s function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and Novel reading as a Critical Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and perpetually desirous novel reader. In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three 0.81(N). • 13. Lesser Developed Countries Paul Collier is the author of The Bottom Billion a 2007 book about Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) and why they struggle to progress despite vast amounts of foreign aid. Collier makes the argument that while much of LDCs are becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and Central Asia who is stuck due to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is in Africa. According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal civil war. Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil war and the war itself lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is partly due to the large amount of available young men who are out of work and ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of the state, this becomes quite easy. The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved due to the potential of profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and according to Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when the fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost all of the world s hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement. Low income, slow growth, and commodity export dependence make up the top three attributes of a high civil war risk country, which is hard to live down after it begins, since ... Before starting this diet, Carpenter ate everything in sight. Enjoying all the foods she knew she wouldn t eat in a long time. By the end of the diet, Carpenter would kill for a bag of chips. The diet showed Carpenter how hard it can be to grow all of your food. With every rabbit she ate and every crop that failed, Carpenter realized she would have less food to eat. Like Gollum s ring, Carpenter cared for her garden with importance. The biggest hurdle with her diet was carbs. Carpenter had potatoes, but due to pest the plant failed to produce. She improvised by turning dried decorative corn into cornmeal. This shows the desperate creativity people can have when starving. Starvation also makes people preform bold tasks. An example of Carpenter s bold behavior came when she reached over a neighbor s fence to sell bees. The diet adventure was not always bad. My mother and grandmother made sure that I attended church every Sunday morning. My grandmother was from the mid west. She carried her strict Bible belt background with her as she traveled west with my grandfather. The many lessons I learned from my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to see the world and my place in it. It would seem, looking back now, that the whole basis for my teachings during those early years was fear. I had the most intense fear of going to Hell. I would cry myself to sleep at night because I was so sure that I would be one of those lost souls for all of eternity. The minister talked of redemption. All I had to do to be saved and get into heaven was confess my sins and ask for forgiveness. I was sure, however, that I had far too many sins to be forgiven; besides, I wasn t really sorry for most of my sins. I could not feel bad about questioning my parents and the church s authority. Most of the time it seemed that they contradicted themselves or just didn t make any sense at all. I had a very hard time digesting the teachings of the church that included both a God who would demand killing and sacrifice and the same God who would love and protect his children. Due to the teachings I received and with so many people being in agreement, I just figured they must be right on some level, which made me the odd man out and the one destined to pay with my soul. For many years in theater much of it presented false or unrealistic concepts. Many authors of playwrights were accustomed to the idea of showcasing productions that could not happen in real life. Around the late 19th century, there was a push for creating more of an authentic and truthful piece of work. The movement was known as realism, which is the representation of familiar things in a way that is accurate or true to life (Google). Reality is the state of things as they actually exist and is the perception of things as they actual exists (Google). In Miss Julie written by August Strindberg, this play displayed his attempt at representing realism. Creating reality in theater requires implanting realistic points such as characters, actions, and dialogue that is accurate to real life. Characters are a main part of a play. Establishing characters with relatable backgrounds to people and depth makes the work more believable to the viewer or reader. Miss Julie, who is twenty five years of age and the main character , she reveals a lot of information about her past. However, the past holds many mistakes and misconceptions about how the world can continue to modernize given specific circumstances and factors. Today, historians, citizens and many others look over these past events and learn from the complications made from previous leaders. One great example of a horrific imperial occurrence is portrayed by King Leopold II of Belgium. Within his time of ruling he displayed manipulation, ignorance and gruesome consequences of corruption. He took the opportunity to create prosperity out of the Congo Free Stateand turned it cold with unethical dishonesty, brutality and corrupt power. With all of his planning going to waste, King Leopold showed all of history how combining imperialism with modernity can turn to the absolute worst for humanity. To begin, imperialism had always been a long term system of governing. Empires were built, colonies were created, and growth occurred to make today s world. It was always seen that the king of an empire knew what was best for his nation. He was given the power to make impacting decisions and lead his empire to success. Socially Huerta fought against discrimination and racism against Latinos, but she did not only help the Latino community, but she also helped fight for women s rights. Although there hasn t been a complete elimination discrimination against minorities and women in the whole country there has been a big improvement. It was while she was working in New York, where she met feminist Gloria Steinem, who inspired her to start a feminist movement (Dolores Huerta). Another big social change is that Latinos became more involved in politics each year. Especially in this year s elections Latinos have proved to have a big influence in state politics as their power have boosted the concentration on the Democratic side as 22 out of 24 are democratic (Los Angeles Times). • 52. The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary, but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people . (Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times (Freilich, J., 2014, 138). • 53. International Law And Public Law When discussing international law, there are two possible situations that generate misunderstanding. One is that consensus over specific cases or universal recognition of certain principles has not been reached among different actors. Therefore the international law fails to provide guidance as to its conception of justice. The other situation is that international law per se is not well respected by the actors in the international community. The credibility and inviolability of law is therefore degraded by frequent breaches in practice. Louis Henkin s quotation in the question mainly concerns the second situation, where international law, as a type of law, is under challenge in an anarchical international system. This argument in fact touches upon a primary discussion regarding the character of international law and the nature of the international society in which the law resides. This answer argues that international law, in contrast with domestic law, is less credible but more political because of the lack of a sole superior power to constitute, determine and enforce the law. The argumentation will unfold against three key elements of law: creation of law, rights of determination, and power of enforcement. The approach is to examine the distinctions between international and domestic law, and to find out the nature of international law that accounts for these distinctions. i. A simple question such as this would in theory demand only a simple answer. Words, however, take such an abundance of forms that creating a truly inclusive definition for the notion of words is daunting. In its physical manifestation, a word is little more than air passing over taut tendons, forming sounds which are accented by flicks of the tongue against the teeth and roof of the mouth. These sounds are arranged in patterns that come to be recognized and accepted as words. But are these sounds all that words represent? certainly not. Words command power. According to Geneva Smitherman, in her book Talkin and Testifyin, standardEnglish as we know it today flourished in the eighteenth century to fill the void left by the decline of Latin (186). African American Vernacular English, or Ebonics, also formed to meet a specific need. Contrary to popular belief, Ebonics rose out of 19th Century southern slave culture, not out of repeated use of sloppy speech. Slaves who were strictly oppressed by their masters were not allowed to peaceably assemble or meet with each other for any purpose. Such freedom, slave owners feared, could foster coercive ideas amongst their slaves. Slaves, therefore, needed a language that would allow them to communicate with each other in a clandestine manner. Ebonics rose to meet this need (Smitherman 19). Using Ebonics, slaves were able to communicate behind their masters backs and form a unity that was instrumental in the perseverance of African American culture through the unspeakable trials of slavery. Almost one hundred and forty years after Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery, the need which Ebonics originally rose to meet is no longer present. In its place, a new need has arisen the need for increased social mobility.
