Financial Aid Appeal Letter Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Financial Aid Appeal Letter Essays" presents a unique set of
challenges. Firstly, delving into personal financial circumstances can be emotionally taxing,
requiring a delicate balance between transparency and maintaining a sense of professionalism. It
demands a deep introspective look into one's financial struggles, which can be a sensitive and
private matter.
Moreover, the essay must effectively communicate the reasons behind the appeal while
showcasing a genuine need for financial assistance. This necessitates the ability to articulate
one's thoughts clearly, persuasively, and with a touch of vulnerability to evoke empathy from the
reader. It requires a keen understanding of the specific criteria for financial aid appeals, such as
changes in family circumstances, unexpected expenses, or other extenuating circumstances that
have affected one's financial situation.
Additionally, there's a technical aspect to consider. The essay should adhere to a formal
structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Clarity and coherence
are crucial, as the message needs to be conveyed effectively and logically. It's essential to strike
the right tone – neither too desperate nor overly formal – to make a compelling case
without alienating the reader.
Researching and understanding the policies and procedures of the particular institution handling
the appeal is also crucial. This ensures that the essay addresses the specific requirements and
concerns of the financial aid office, increasing the chances of a successful appeal.
In conclusion, writing an essay on financial aid appeal letters requires a delicate blend of
emotional openness, persuasive writing skills, and a thorough understanding of the institution's
policies. It demands a level of introspection and vulnerability that can be challenging for many.
However, navigating these challenges effectively can significantly impact the success of the
appeal.

Summary Of Look Up By Gary Turk
The video was called Look Up by Gary Turk (Turk, Gary; 2014). He go to explain
the online generation of our society today in comparison from the generation of our
elderly society. The main idea is how distracted our society is by social networking.
The way that we do not go anyway without being attached to the social network,
whether it is texting, phone call, reading blog on the internetor even just to check
facebook. Our society no longer just take a walk to smell the flowers or notice the
beauty of nature that is all around us. This distraction follows society to the
workplace, because our society do not want to be away for the social networking.
Many employees need their cell on their desk in the workplace because they are so
Health Is Mentally, Spiritually And Socially
What is Health?
Mentally, Physically, Spiritually Socially

Author Note
This paper was prepared for Nursing 212, Section 4, taught by Professor Peterson.
Health was once a very basic word with simply one meaning. For many years health
professionals defined health as the absence of diagnosable disease , and it was as
simple as that (Murdaugh, Parsons Pender, 2006, p. 6). If you didn t have a
disease then you were considered healthy. In today s world, that is just one of the
many meanings of the word health . The world is so diverse, composed of
different social, ethnic, cultural, and religious groups whom all have different
values and beliefs. These different opinions have allowed the medical field to grow
which has ultimately helped shape a multitude of definitions for the word health .
We now understand that there are different degrees as to how healthy someone is.
Just because two people lack disease does not mean that they are equally as healthy
(Murdaugh, Parsons Pender, 2006, p. 6). There are many characteristics of a given
person that allow them to fall on a spectrum of healthiness. The medical field no
longer defines the word health in as basic of a form as the absence of diagnosable
disease , but rather as a compositions many components; mental, physical, emotional,
and social.
Mental health is a person s state with regard to their psychological well being. It is
important to have good
Surviving Twins In Twins
Twins are at a greater risk to be diagnosed with cerebral palsy than singletons. If
one twin dies during infancy or a fetal death, the surviving twin has a higher
potential of being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. A survey was conducted in
England and Wales to compare birthweight specific cerebral palsy and to analyze
was there a connection between cerebral palsy and like sex and unlike sex twins,
also did the death of a twinsibling increase the chances of the surviving twin having
cerebral palsy. The birth weight was a factor in the survey due to a higher
occurrence of preterm births in twins. If a child is born pre mature, he or she is at
a higher risk of hypoxic ischaemic cerebral impairment. Data was gathered on all
the registered twins born in 1994 and 1995. The twins where one died and the
other survived was part of the sample. Also part of the sample group was whether
the twins were of like or unlike sex. Two different national surveys were completed
to analyze any significance between the surviving twin being diagnosed with cerebral
palsy, and if the twins were the same sex. One of the surveys was completed by the
general practitioner inquiring whether the surviving twin had cerebral... Show more

One of the results from the surveys is that if a surviving twin is the same sex, then
the chances of the survivor being diagnosed with cerebral palsy are greatly
increased. However, that was questioned in the article if there was enough of a
difference to statistically verify this statement. There is a connection between low
birth weight and multiple pregnancies; both are a risk factor in cerebral palsy. If
one of the twins died, there was a higher occurrence of cerebral palsy for twins that
were like sex than unlike sex. Same sex twins that were born with a low birth rate
were at a higher rate of being diagnosed with cerebral
Describe The Importance Of The Colosseum
The Colosseum
Koch, Matt
Do you know what one of the most important structures to mankind history is? The
Colosseum. The importance of the Colosseum, otherwise known originally as the
Flavian Amphitheatre, was that many of the materials, styles, and architecture were
inspiring to many architects and designers constructing today s modern facilities and
structures.
The emperor of Rome at the time, Vespasian, began building the Colosseum (Flavian
Amphitheatre) in 72 AD. They believed that in ancient Rome the patron was more
noble and loyal than the architects, and the architects were just craftsmen and hired
hands (Woog, 2014). So as of today the designers and architects are unknown to the
world, and will probably never be found out about because if limited evidence.
Floor plans, 3 dimensional scale models, perspective drawings, and full size design
sketches are what were used by the anonymous architects and designers of the
Colosseum (Hopkins, 2011). The site of construction was formerly known as the
Golden House, owned and lived in by Nero the Emperor. This was drained and as a
precaution against potential earthquake damage concrete foundations six metres deep
were put down to support it (Cartwright, 2012). And eight long years of hard work
and design later the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) was completed in 80 CE.
There were many materials mixed in the project of constructing the Colosseum
(Flavian Amphitheatre). The walls of the Colosseum were built with stone. They
made use of a number of arches in order to keep the weight down, but yet still keep
them strong (Cartwright, 2012). The floor of the Colosseum was wooden and usually
covered in sand most of the time. But the floor was taken out due to heavy
weathering in 1674 AD. And about 19 miles outside of Rome in a little town of Tivoli
were quarries where the Romans mined there stone blocks out of to construct the
walls of the Colosseum. Some other material they had used to construct the
colosseum include, limestone brick, concrete and volcanic stone (otherwise known as
tufa ), pumice stone. And including bronze, which was used for statues around the
stadium. But some parts of the colosseum that are made of concrete are not authentic

Kansas Water Conservation
Water is a resource that has always been available to us, and I feel as a society we
have taken it for granted for many generations. While I was doing the research for
this water conservation essay, it opened my eyes to the importance of my
generation to preserve the remaining aquifer. Although I don t reside in Southwest
Kansas, I have very strong ties to this area of Kansas where the family farm is
located. The impact of not preserving water will not only affect our family farm in
Grant and Stevens county, but also the cattle that graze on the grass in the pasture.
Along with our pasture, we have farm ground that is irrigated to raise silage, corn,
and wheat; which is sold to feed yards in the area for cattle. Without water, the impact

Take shorter showers, turn off the water when we brush our teeth and just be more
conscious of water usage in order to not be wasteful. When it comes to future
farmers, they can pay close attention to water per acre feet regulations and follow
them closely. Another way to extend water when it comes to agriculture is to use less
water intensive crops. Examples are grain sorghum, cotton and sunflowers. Repairing
leaks in irrigation and utilizing new and improved ways to irritate are other possible
solutions. One new way to irrigate is the PMDI (Precision Mobile Drip irrigation
technology system called (Dragon Line). This new system is predicting a potential
for 20 50% water savings compared to conventional irrigation. I believe that for my
generation to help with water conservation, we need to be diligent about educating
everyone in the past, present and future about the importance of not taking this
precious natural resource for
What Role Does Perception Play In Critical Thinking
Perception is the organisation, identification and interpretation of sensory
information in order to represent and understand the environment. Like
perception, logic plays a role in critical thinking. Critical thinking is the process in
which one mentally explores deeper than the superficial matters at hand into the
deeper layers in order to find out what the real issues are. However, when it comes
to weighing their beneficial impact on the critical thinking process, logic and
perception are by no means equal. While logic is firmly rooted in reason,
perceptions are just as firmly rooted in one s senses and can easily be corrupted.
Many kinds of faulty logic or perception interfere with our ability to think critically,
for example, superstition, argument from ignorance, false analogies, irrelevant
comparison and fallacies. Therefore, I believe that perception is certainly not reality
and most mistakes in thinking are inadequacies of perception rather than mistakes of
logics. Perception is defined as the ability to see, hear or becomes aware of
something through the senses (Nature of Logic and Perception). However, since the
senses are susceptible to personal interpretation, they are therefore potentially
unreliable sources of data. If one is able of rationally thinking through the information
that they perceive, then they are more likely to make accurate assumptions. However,
if one is highly emotive, they may not be able to separate the emotion from the data
they perceive,
Thank You Research Paper
Julie,
This is my reflection, of every person whose influences my life; I chose you. I ll
start by saying thank you, thank you for each night you rubbed my back until I fell
asleep, along with giving me the place to sleep. For singing until whatever nerves
you had were calm and for letting me see you so angelic with your curly blonde
hair and bright eyes. Thank you for showing me a big house and introducing me to
a new world with a man that would later teach me the true worth of a women, I am
so sorry he couldn t value you. Thank you for showing me words were only

I learned that emotions were meaningless because as your husband reminded me
every second of every day, I was just dramatic. Man, I felt so alive not knowing if I
was allowed to cry. I d never want to know what a life without being criticized. I
want to thank you again for teaching me sarcasm, it comes in handy for times like
this. I m graduating this year, never thought I d make it this far; did you? After
freshman year when you wouldn t drive me to the hospital but told everyone about
the hundred cuts on each leg and never even called to check up on the day, I
realized I couldn t see my life progressing. But you wouldn t know because the night I
did all those was two weeks after left me with my mother and after seizing in
overdose Lacy told me the lies of our family. Do you still hear the echo of my sisters
truths like I do? I thought would be the last of the heartbreak you all would tell me, I
was in for a surprise, wasn t I? So, thank you for letting me cry at night because for
some reason I could never do anything right. Thank you for starting a horrible cycle
each November, December and January where I constantly hide my eyes so no one
sees me cry because all I can feel inside is what it s like to lose everything over and

Sleeping with the Enemy
In the movie Sleeping With the Enemy, Laura Burns, is living a life that many
would describe as perfect. Laura lives in a beautiful mansion on the coast with her
handsome, wealthy husband Martin. This wealth allows Laura the opportunity to
stay at home rather than working outside of the home. However, behind closed
doors this perfect life is very different from what the outside world sees. Laura is
constantly being beaten, ridiculed, and criticized by her husband. Martin is
obsessed about keeping the house in perfect order. He is easily set off by simple
things such as a towel being out of line, or a can out of place in the cupboard. Upon
him discovering that things are out of order, he resorts to severely beating Laura. The

Regardless of the reasons behind why Laura does things the way that she does, I
believe that this movie accurately portrays this issue that is faced by survivors of
spousal abuse. However, one area that I don t believe the movie touched on enough
was the psychological problems associated with survivors of spousal abuse. Walllace
discusses that often woman suffer from such things as posttraumatic stress syndrome,
depression and other symptoms that inhibit their ability to function within society.
In addition the Department of Justice Canada states that abuse may affect virtually
every aspect of an abused person s life. It can harm their physical and mental
health, their ability to work, and their relationship with their children and loved
ones In this movie Laura does not appear to be suffering from such things, in fact
she seems to be coping very well, with the exception of the not trusting others, and
not wanting to enter into another relationship. These mental issues are an important
part of spousal abuse that I feel should have been portrayed more in this movie, in
order for the audience to fully understand the wide variety of possible consequences
of abuse. When looking at how this movie portrays Martin, I believe that it covers
some very common areas that can lead to spousal abuse. First
Hera In The Greek Myth
Hera
Hera(О‰ПЃО±)is an olympian and Zeus wife and sister. She is the supreme
goddess and patron of marriage and childbirth. In The greek Myth, Hera only
married Zeus to cover her shame of being raped. This example glorifies the negative
aspects to Hera s relationship with Zeus. From studying family trees. Zeus had many

feeling sorry for the bird, held it to her breast to keep it warm. Zeus then resumed
his normal form and taking advantage of Hera s surprise, he raped her. Hera then

Eugenics, Derived From The Greek Word Eugenes Meaning
Well...
Eugenics, derived from the Greek word eugenes meaning well born, is defined as
the study or belief that by encouraging people with good genetic traits to reproduce
and discourage those people with less desirable traits the human race can benefit.
There were certain groups of people who were affected by these sterilizationlaws,
including people that were mentally disabled or ill and those from socially
unacceptable areas of life, that were adopted in 32 states starting in the 1930 s.
These sterilizations were done on over 350,000 people in the span eleven years
between 1934 and 1945 (Kaelber), leading the United States into one of the darkest
parts of our history.
Gregor Johann Mendel was an abbot at the St. Thomas Abbey in Brno, in the
modern day Czech Republic. He is credited as being the father of genetics because of
his work crossbreeding pea plants in order to favor certain traits such as height,
color, and pod shape. He worked in the late 1850 s to the early 1860 s. Even though
farmers had been doing this similar practice for centuries, his experiments
established many of the heredity rules we now refer to as Mendelian inheritance.
Around this time another theory of genes was coming out from a man by the name
of Sir Francis Galton. Galton is credited as the Father of Eugenics and is also known
for the popular phrase Nature vs Nurture . Galton studied the upper class in Great
Britain and believed came to the conclusion of their superior genetic makeup was
Waiting For Superman Essay
In Waiting for Superman a film produced by a man named David Guggenheim
addresses the issues that arise in the public school system, and how hard it is for kids
to get a good education in the U.S. As Guggenheim quotes no matter who we are, our
what neighborhood we grew up in wanting to believe in our schools, we take a leap
of faith. Waiting for Superman effectively identifies failing schools, incompetent
teachers, and administrative constraints as the main issues under mining educationin
the U.S. today. First, Guggenheim reached his audience through its focus on the
stories of five children and their families as they apply to their neighborhoods local
charter schools. Each child s parent places them in the charter schools lottery drawing

Religion During The Captivity By Alvar Nunez Cabeza De
Vaca
Religion played a key role in the captive lives of the writers of the three captivity
narratives by Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, a Catholic, Father Isaac Jougues, also
Catholic, and
Mary Rowlandson, a Puritan. All three of these captives used God as a motivation to
keep pushing forward because they believed that God would free them from their
suffering. They all believed that God had a plan for all of what they were going
through. Jougues and de Vaca also use religionin other ways during their time as
captives of the Native Americans. The Native Americans made de Vaca and his men
doctors even though they were not.
When the Native Americans were told that de Vaca and his men were not doctors and
that de

Rosa Parks And Dove s Rosa Parks
In Montgomery, Alabama a major history event took place on the Cleveland
Avenue Bus. Parks had changed history. In Brinkley and Dove s writings Rosa
Parks and Rosa they describe how Parks stood up for what she believed was right.
Parks dreamed of the day her actions would help end segregation. Park s dignity
and pride were also an important aspect in her rebellious act. Parks knew what
would happen if she stood up to the bus driver but she did it anyways which shows
she was a strong and level headed woman.
According to Brinkley and Dove s writings, Parks valued the needs of others before
her own when she protested racial segregation obeying the Jim Crow law. Parks
believed that everyone should be treated with respect and equality. For example,
Parks stated in Brinkley s story, From Rosa Parks, after her courageous act, I knew I
had the strength of my ancestors with me, and their dignity as well. This
demonstrated another subject Parks valued which was pride in her heritage, and
how she would stand against inequality of the races like her ancestors. Brinkley also
comes to write, Parks was not only a seamstress but also a major activist in the
NAACP organization. Rosa Parks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her behavior as, a defiance as liberating as John Brown s on the gallow in Harper s
Ferry (L.85). Dove too depicts Park s actions as peaceful, yet forceful when she
said, Doing nothing was the doing: the clean frame of her gaze carved by a camera

That trim name with its dream of a bench to rest on. Her sensible coat (L.4). So, the
writer s portrayals of Parks did differ, but they both understood that she had changed
history with her one life changing act of

According to Mackie, The laws of nature describe the ways in which the world,
including humans, works when left to itself and not interfered with. A miracle
occurs when the world is not left to itself, when something distinct from the natural
order as a whole intrudes into it. (Mackie 1982: 19 20) The violation definition
becomes practically equal to the earlier definition of a miracle as an event that
exceeds the dynamic power of nature. According to Mackie s design, it has the
necessary feature that it makes evident the connection between a miracle and
supernatural being. Mackie also stated that evidence that supports a simplification
being a law of nature also supports the non occurrence of that
His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity
Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure
revolves around images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often
appears as an object to be looked at and acted upon, while the male protagonist is
usually granted a more active role, both in terms of his agency in the narrative, and
in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is backed up by elements of
two films studied this semester: His Girl Fridayby Howard Hawks (1940) and Double
Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the
main femalecharacters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have
over the females, and the way that the womans image is used to draw attention to
specific aspects of the plot. In both of these movies, the females take a subordinate
and supporting role to the male figures. First, in His Girl Friday, Hildy is a
newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. In the 1940s, it was
customary for women to serve their men at home, and Hildy extended that with her
husband to the work place. Every reporter has to answer to the editor, so Walter
was Hildy s boss at home and at work. The movie opens up, and Hildy is returning
from a long vacation after the divorce. She returns to Walter Burns, to inform him
that she is now engaged. During that conversation, we see a glimpse of how their
relationship worked. While Hildy is trying to tell Walter about Bruce, her
Essay on Queen Elizabeth
The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most
celebrated, and controversial leaders in English history. Raised in a neglectful home,
and shadowed by her mother s reputation, Elizabeth did not have the royal treatment
that her siblings received. From her birth, she was a disappointment, as a child she
was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603 reign was troubled.
Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. To the disappointment of King Henry VII,
her father, she was a presumptive heir to the throne. Elizabeth s older sister, Mary,
would have been heir to the throne, but that was stripped from her when Henry VII
divorced her mother, Catherine of Aragon. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth s mother,... Show

Mary?s determination was to destroy the Protestant faith in England. One of her
acts as queen was confining Elizabeth to the Tower of London for two months on
suspicion of collaborating against her plans. Mary suspected that she was pregnant,
and Elizabeth?s probability at descending the throne was diminishing rapidly,
although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was
not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January
15, 1559 Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the
packed London streets as the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told
her people ?I thank you with all my heart.? After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth
sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the queen?s right to absolute
power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it abundantly
clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed
charming men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and
courtiers did not take their positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of
royal displeasure and displays of humor and warmth. Elizabeth was considered by
most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched. During her childhood,
while living with Catherine Parr, Elizabeth experienced emotional distress which
many believe affected her love
The Film Osama Directed By Siddiq Barmak
The film Osama directed by Siddiq Barmak is a very beautiful and poignant film,
but very heartbreaking and emotional. Before watching the movie, I knew very little
about the Taliban s and the film director, this film push me to research the Taliban
and Siddiq Barmak. I want to know why and how this film came to be. The film gave
me a meticulous insight into the lives of girls and women in Afghanistan; living under
the ruling of the Taliban. I was unaware of the extent of genderdiscrimination
occurring in Afghanistan during this time. The Taliban s were the main force of
power for many years, destroying and installing fear and pain to many.
The Taliban s are Student s of Islamic Knowledge Movement who ruled
Afghanistan from 1996 2001; they came to power after a long Civil war with the
Soviet forces. They held 90% of the country and followed a policy that included the
treatment of women and terrorist activities. Their power came to end after
September 11, 2001 (opendemocray). The movie allows us to experience another
culture; women had no rights to work or leave their home alone. At the very
beginning of the movie hundreds of woman, protest their freedom, for their rights to
work. It was interesting to see women willing to sacrifice their lives in order to have
equality; they were fearless, despite knowing the consequence of death or
imprisonment.
Siddiq Barmak on the other hand was born in Afghanistan in 1962 and attended film
school in Moscow, he did not support the
The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization
Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly
performed on women as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future
children, and is still being practiced today in many countries around the world,
including the United States.
Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being
sterilized, or she has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by
either being told it is a temporary or reversible procedure, or being told that by not
consenting, there would be negative impacts to her immigration, housing,
government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented in the
United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged,
unwed, mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many
people within a minority group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat
overpopulation.
This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their
own reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced
sterilization in these groups of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal
legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent sterilization of women without their
consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to were those who
received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an
attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive
Napa Valley History
Napa Valley is a region of California (United States), known for its wine production.
Napa s name derives from Wappo which is the name of the indigenous Indians who
inhabited the region. The valley is located in Napa County. Its length is 48 kilometres
long, concentrates more than 300 wineproducers and represents, somehow, the new
industry, not only because it produces excellent quality wines, but because it has
managed its merger with gastronomy and tourism. Each year about 8 million people
visit Napa Valley, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in California
(Gmelch et al., 2011).
According to Paul Wagner , Janeen Olsen and Liz Thach (2010), despite the
economic difficulties worldwide, this market continues growing thanks to the
increased demand from a new generation of consumers who are keen on wine, the
Millennial Generation. They are people of both sexes, aged between 20 and 32
years, representing over 70 million of the US population. Paul Wagner points out:
They are young, have no fear and they were born with a computer under his arm and
an MP3 in the pocket consequently they do not accept established traditions about
wine, they are adventurous and wine is not just a drink, but a ticket to travel to other
places, to other countries . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Arguments for and against Lowering the Drinking
Age
The controversy on the proper drinking age is one that has been repeatedly discussed
and researched over the years. Its common to hear the argument If someone is old
enough to take a bullet for their country, they should be allowed to drink alcohol. But
is that enough justification? Some would say no. According to the National Institute
on Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism(NIAAA) it is estimated that in 2004 there were
more than 1,700 student deaths, 599,000 injuries, and 696,000 assaults annually
associated with excessive drinking (Fennell 247). Given these numbers, would
lowering the drinking age really be the best thing for America s youth? In fact, the
state and federal laws for consuming alcohol are different. The federal law... Show

Was it a good decision to choose 21 as the legal drinking age? Research shows that
alcohol consumption, heavy drinking, and daily alcohol use has declined among
young adults age 18 20 since the 1980s (Wechsler). Along with the decline in
consumption, the percentage of alcohol related traffic fatalities has also dramatically
declined from the 1980s until 1997 when it leveled off. (Wechsler).
(Wechsler).
Despite the positive results that have come about since this law was passed, it is
pretty clear that it has not prevented people under 21 from obtaining and drinking
alcohol. College campuses across the country report problems with students binge
drinking and students who drink deliberately to get drunk (Smith). Today, the
generally accepted definition of binge drinking is the consumption of five or more
drinks in a row at least once in the past 2 weeks (Binge). Some of the reasons given
for binge drinking range from being curious to trying to escape from the ever
present stress in our lives. The latter reason is more prevalent in college students.
College students are more likely to engage in heavy drinking than their peers who
do not attend college with 2 in 5 students nationally engaging in binge drinking on at
least 1 occasion in the past 2 weeks (Wechsler). Some believe that making the

Social Role And Social Roles
Everybody in the world belongs to a subcultural group (people that come together
that seek out others sharing similar ideas or views) or plays a social role in it.
Playing in a social role, as individuals, we act in certain situations differently, such
as in a work place, home, or around your peer groups. I believe it s a real occurrence
that a lot of people deal with daily. The ideology of a subculture group or the social
roles you play forms by separating or belonging in it and forming personal norms,
sanctions, material objects, symbols, language patterns, and social institutions. Such
as me being an employee (sales associate) at Payless and being a younger sister to an
older brother which have similar ways but they also have a few differences.
To begin with, when it comes to working for an economic institution I play a certain
social role when being a sales associate. I wouldn t act the same way at my job like
I do with my family members or my friends such as clowning around, teasing,
cursing, or pulling pranks on each other. In my job description there are norms and
sanctions that I need to follow, breathe, and live by them. I m responsible for
following the Company s safety and environmental laws, regulations, and
procedures at work. For instance, always come in on time (unless you call in),
follow the safety policies for ourselves and customers such as prevention of
accidents removing things that can cause a fall or slip such as a 3 or 8 step ladder
s or carts (children might mistake it as a toy), making sure boxes on top of the
rack shelves are less than 8 inches high (not in the way for sprinkles or falling
over), making sure each aisle is clean (nobody s going to come into a dirty store),
putting shoes in their right particular areas and sizes from kids on the left hand
side, women s in the middle, and the men s on the right hand side and straight
across the back of the store. In addition, to safety reasons in work wear we can
wear almost about anything but must be comfortable like business wear or casual
(no jeans, open back sandals/heels, and must be knee length) and have a Payless
store tag always, also when it comes to lifting boxes we must always wear a black
back support belt while lifting.
Education in Nazi Germany
Education in Nazi Germany Change and Continuity Assessment When Hitler became
Chancellor of Nazi Germany, in 1935, he proposed many changes in education and
throughout the country. He believed that these changes would influence people and
indigenise them of his beliefs and reforms that should happen in the country to praise
his glory and make Germany the most powerful country and its rule to continue
forever. One of these integral changes was education. Hitler strongly believed that,
younger minds were easier to infiltrate and indoctrinate, as they were developing and
imposed this sudden change amongst schoolchildren to provoke stronger Nazismin the
future generation of Germans. Older generations, could oppose and have... Show

Moreover, R.E was removed and replaced by Ideology as Dr Rust and Hitler had

to be reinforced amongst students. Evidence to support this is, is a German

ideals. This source is useful, as it supplies information of experiences; however it
can be said that they may have difficulties remembering and often the German
people don t want to take the blame for Hitler s tyranny, so this is a source worth
considering. Also, to reiterate, religion amongst German children was changed as
in a girls timetable singing is a lesson that is taught a lot. In singing, Dr Rust
enforced prayers and songs of praise that highlighted Hitler s glory. Also, the
amount of time on religion was reduced and attendance at school prayers was
optional. This suggests that, the sole purpose was to only strive for Hitler. These
songs, such as a German man remembered, were praises to Hitler and gave a goal to
the children to ultimately fight for Hitler. To point out, women were also considered
inferior to men, as they couldn t continue their further education to obtain jobs. Also,
the girls timetable shows the attributes of a
War Essay
Weird silence filled the air. It was a cold and relatively peaceful night on January
2005. Almost all citizens hid in their rooms to protect themselves from the war.
The sky was completely dark with no light on streets. All of a sudden, the dark
silent night was put to an end as six year old Samar Hassan was screaming and
crying. A car was approaching in the dark when several American soldiers were
patrolling a main road of northern Iraqs Tal Afarwhich was a town rife with
insurgents. Concerning that the vehicle might carry insurgents and suicide bombs,
the soldiers began to flash lights and waved arms to indicate the car to stop.

Superfund Site Essay
When it comes to Superfund sites there are few more complex and challenging than
Portland Harbor. The site covers around ten miles of river (miles 3.5 to 9) form the
southern part of Sauvie Island to a bit past Fremont Bridge. There are numerous
potentially responsible parties (PRPs) that date back to over a hundred years of
contamination that includes a smorgasbord of pollutants. There are endangered

American tribes. Portland Harbor is located along the Willamette River and has an
extensive history of commercial, shipping, and industrial activities. There are also
significant amounts of natural and cultural resources. In 1997, a mutual study
conducted by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed that sediments in the harbor were
contaminated with DDT, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), petroleum, and

Edward Kennedy Ellington Research Paper
Great American Composers
Over the course of history, the arts have played an important role in aspects of
people s lives. More specifically, music is something that has been around for
centuries and will continue to play a part in shaping people into who they are. There
have been numerous talented composers in America, but some worth mentioning are
Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin.
Though music has been around for generations, during the 1900 s, Duke Ellington
was a famous composer in the Americas. Edward Kennedy Ellington was born on
April 29, 1899 in Washington D.C. to a religious family; his mother was a Baptist

music the strange modulations (changing from one key to another) built upon lush
melodies that ramble into unexpected places, the unorthodox (untraditional)
construction of songs.... ( Duke, n.d.).
Not only was Duke Ellington well known for his involvement in jazz during the 1900
s, George Gershwin was also popular during that time. Gershwin was born in
Brooklyn in 1898 to a family of immigrants. He left school at the age of 15 in order
to work as a song plugger (a pianist that demonstrated songs) on Tin Pan Alley
(Hingley, 2013). He soon began to write his own pieces, and his first published song
was When You Want Em, You Can t Get Em ; although this song was composed of

Colon Cancer Essay
Colon Cancer
What is the disease?
Colon and rectal cancer develop in the digestive tract, which is also called the
gastrointestinal, or GI, tract. The digestive system processes food for energy and
rids the body of solid waste matter (fecal matter or stool). Colon cancer and rectal
cancer have many features in common. Sometimes they are referred to together as
colorectal cancer.
Over 95% of colorectal cancers are ad enocarcinomas. These are cancers of the
glandular cells that line the inside of the colon and rectum. Other, less common type
of tumors may also develop in the colon and rectum. Carcinoid tumors develop from
hormone producing cells of the intestine. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors develop in

The small intestine continues breaking down the food and absorbs most of the
nutrients. The liver and the pancreas release bile and enzymes into the small bowel
to aid in this process. The small intestine joins the large intestine or large bowel, a
muscular tube about five feet long. The first part of the large bowel, called the
colon continues to absorb water and mineral nutrients from the food matter and
serves as a storage place for waste matter. The waste matter left after this process
goes into the rectum, the final 6 inches, or so of the large bowel. From there, it
passes out of the body through the anus.
What are the casual factors for this disease? Colon cancer is expected to be
responsible for about 47,700 deaths (23,100 men and 24,600 women) during 2000.
About 8,600 people (4,700 men and 3,900 women) will die from rectal cancer
during 2000. The death rate from colorectal cancer has been going down for the
past 20 years. This may be because there are fewer cases, more of the cases are found
early, and treatments have improved.
The 5 year relative survival rate is 90% for people whose colorectal cancer is found
and treated in an early stage, before it has spread. Nevertheless, only 37% of
colorectal cancers are found at that early stage. Once the cancer has spread to
nearby organs or lymph nodes, the 5 year relative survival rate goes down to 65%.
For people whose colorectal cancer has spread to distant parts of the body such as the
The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable
The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible
degradation. The reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging
the cell and then recharging it. The irreversible forms of degradation vary depending
on the types of electrodes and the application of the battery. However, the irreversible
forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of the discharge
/recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible
degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte,
corrosion of the nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative
electrolyte, electrode poisoning, and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the
nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal runaway, which can be described
as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and voltage. The
batteries are also susceptible to gassing, which can lead to the buildup of pressure in
the cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed
by a number of safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured
using an extremely toxic metal cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened
through regulation, keen monitoring during manufacturing, and elevated recycling
efficiencies. Currently, there are three major categories of the nickel cadmium and
nickel iron batteries; namely, vented sintered plate, pocket plate,

Their Eyes Were Watching Godis a content lavishly invested with importance and
reason which utilizes idyllic dialect and folkloric symbolism to pass on its
messages. Hurston utilizes numerous symbols and metaphors as a part of Their

recommend something else. A metaphor, in any case, is a more interesting
methods of expression containing a suggested examination, in which a statement
or expression conventionally and fundamentally utilized for one thing is
connected to an alternate. One of the common metaphors in the novel is the
picture of the skyline. As Janie ascensions the pear tree to see what exists around
her, she sees the skyline. The skyline additionally plays a part at dusk, a period
when the patio sitters sit outside toward the end of a working day to watch the sun

primary metaphor in the story. At dawn, Janie goes not far off to the train station to

The skyline is an image of Janie s long lasting quest for happiness. Toward the end
of the story, Pheoby is on edge to look for her own particular skyline with her

Political Style Of Mao Zedong
Mao Zedong was the chairman of the Communist party in China, and his adventure
is one that is very dirty and manipulative. Mao uses the media to brainwash people
by making people read propaganda in the newspapers every day and listen to
propaganda on the radios too. He targets youth to mold them into his image of how
they should act. His hunger for power has to lead him to down a harsh road filled
with other people suffering. Mao Zedongis a manipulative man that brainwashes the
youth to gain him power in the political scene.
One of the many ways that chairman Mao could gain control and brain wash
people was through the media. This media is very important when brainwashing a
group of people. In Mao s case, he takes control of the newspaper and makes sure
that there is plenty of propaganda everywhere, all over the paper. Mao uses a very
smart tactic to lure out and shut down anyone who opposes him in the media. He
bombards the common folk with quote after quote from his books that is basically
just crammed with propaganda. A modern example of the media being a very
important tool when brainwashing a nation is North Korea. The dictatorship at North
Korea has complete control over the media and there is absolutely no hope of telling
the citizens that their entire lives were lives since they were constantly fed
propaganda all the time, everywhere. Mao s control of newspaper during the cultural
revolution help his cause a great deal.

mysteries and horror, eventually giving birth to modern detective stories. Some
depicted his stories as aspects of his life. His life, like his writing, is a mystery

Mold Moulding Report
My Review of Concrobium Mold Control Household Cleaner
Concrobium Mold Control doesn t just encapsulate (cover) mold, but shields as it
dries while eliminating mold and mildew underneath. In addition to eliminating mold,
Concrobium Mold Control stays on surfaces in the form of an invisible antimicrobial
shield preventing mold and mildew growth. As long as that shield is intact, the
treated surface retains a protective barrier that will prevent the growth of mold and
mildew. Reapplication is only necessary if that barrier is removed or covered with
a new surface. So if the surface receives constant dousing with water (e.g. a shower
stall), or resurfaced (painted) or becomes very soiled, it is recommended that the
Concrobium Mold Control be reapplied.

The Violent Resistance Movement Of Brazil And Mexico
In Gledhill s and Schell s book, New Approaches to Resistance: In Brazil and Mexico,
the topic of different forms of resistance is mentioned among different groups of
people. These groups had different motivations and goals in achieving systematic
social change to their local community. The various resistance groups were made up
of the poor, marginalized, working class, religious minorities, and ethnic minorities.
Moreover, these subaltern groups faced opposition from the powerful elite, which
consisted of the government, multinational corporations, wealthy landowners,
Catholic religious elite, and white European dominated institutions. However, these
subaltern groups used different forms of resistance that changes our perspective of
what resistance really means. The subaltern groups used violent, peaceful, covert, and
unorganized forms of resistance to achieve their goals.
The use of violent resistance by subaltern groups is the most common form of
resistance when we think about revolution and change. This form of resistance occurs
when elite power structures are attacked by the marginalized in society. In particular,
the violent resistance movement led by Maria Lopez in chapter 3 highlights the
brutality that is caused by violent revolutions. This resistance movement used any
means necessary to eradicate any people or symbols of the Spanish. This subaltern
group used murder, torture, and control as a means to achieve social change.

The Mise-En-Scene In Nicholas Ray s Rebel Without A

Nicholas Ray s Rebel Without a Cause is a dramatic film that takes place over the
period of about 24 hours. The mise en scene within the film is incredible
surrounding the costumes chosen. One of the first scenes we see is the three main
characters, Judy, Jim, and Plato, in a police station. Here Judy is wearing a bright
red outfit with red lipstick making her stand out as her attire is the only red in the
scene. This color is a parallel to Jim s choice of a red jacket later on in the film,
linking the two of them together. It is also interesting as in the chickie run Jim is
wearing a red jacket with a white shirt while Buzz is wearing a black jacket and
yellow shirt making him clearly the darker figure in the scene. However, the inside of
Antoine Arnauld s Argument Analysis
In objection to Descartes reasoning behind his attempt to establish that what is true,
is clear and distinct perception, Antoine Arnauld argues his reasoning is circular.
Before explaining why circularity is evident, I will first consider what Descartes truth
rule really consists of. After establishing cogito ergo sum , Descartes uses the same
logical terminology in which the cogito was established, to attempt to find other
truths in the external world. However, as the is no causality between cogito and
external truths, some further proof is required for Descartes. This is at the point
Descartes introduces the argument for Gods existence and hence, we get the truthrule
established. He argues that God exists and is not a deceiver, in which... Show more

With Descartes distinction between what we perceive clearly and distinctly, and what
we remember having perceived clearly and distinctly. In order for something to be
certain, it must at least have duration in the mind. This means that even when not
concentrated on, it is still knowledge with the potential to be certain. Some beliefs, on
the other hand, can be certain without God s existence for their truth, but only for as
long as they are concentrated on. Such beliefs are clear and distinct, and therefore
true, when thought of and not dependent upon a non deceiving God that would
assure us of their truth. Their truth is established by their being clear and distinct
when concentrated on. The contradiction lies with what Descartes considers eternal
truths , that geometrical facts, such as the area of a circle is equal to ПЂr^2, or the
fact that three angles of a triangle are equal to two right angles, are all only true
because of Gods existence and non deceptive nature. This with consideration to
Descartes response to Arnauld, leaves up with the implication that an eternal truth is
only true once we clearly and distinctly perceive it, and then not true, when the
attentiveness of geometric truths leaves our mind; sounding like a

largest vertebrate animal. In a study that was reported on May 24 in Proceedings
of the Royal Society B, Nicholas Pyenson, the museum s curator of fossil marine
mammals, and collaborators Graham Slater at the University of Chicago and
Jeremy Goldbogen at Stanford University, went back and found the evolution of the
size of whales in over thirty million years of history. They discovered that the huge
whales showed up along multiple branches in the family tree roughly two to three
million years ago. A reason for whales having those bigger body sizes is that by the
increase of ice sheets located in Northern Hemisphere, whales had to change the way
they ontaimed food
Essay on The Evolution of Reptiles
There are four main groups of reptiles, known as Crocodilians, Squamates,
Tuataras, and Turtles. Crocodilians consists of large reptiles which includes
alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and caimans. Squamates are lizards, snakes, and
worm lizards. A worm lizard is a subterranean burrowing reptile that resembles an
earthworm, a legless lizard. Tuataras are a group of reptiles that are lizard like in
appearance but are different from squamates because their skull isn t jointed. Turtles
are the most ancient reptiles alive today. They have changed very little since they
first showed up 220 million years ago. The first turtle appeared 220 million years
ago.(Laura Klappenbach)

Amphibians skin is moist and they do not consist of scales. The skin of an
amphibian is also permeable. Permeable means that gases can pass through their
skin. A reptiles scales provide them with a protective layer of skin that is tough and
dry. The scales help to minimize the loss of body moisture, the reptilian scales
consists of a protein called keratin. The scale structure of a reptile are not
individual like those of a fish, but are a continuous sheet of epidermal tissue. Hard
shelled eggs provide a protective environment in which the embryo can develop and
enables reptiles to lay their eggs in dry environments. On the other hand, amphibians
must lay their eggs in or near water. The reptilian skeleton differs from other
vertebrates in many ways. For example, reptiles have many bones in their lower jaw
to enable them a greater bite mobility, but mammals only have one bone in their
lower jaw called the mandible. Mammals ears consist of three bones(the malleus,
incus, and stapes) while reptiles have just one bone(stapes). Reptiles also have only
one occipital condyle(a protrusion on the skull that forms a joint that enables
movement of the head) mammals on the other hand consist of two occipital condyles
(Laura Klappenbach 2014).
Scientists say reptiles evolved from amphibians 340 million years ago. The first
reptile was an insect eater. Reptiles were more adaptable and able to
Descartes s Argument For The Existence Of God
Descartes states in order to find the truth, we must be able to clearly and distinctly
perceive something to be true, we must prove two things. First, proving that the
existence of God is true. Second, the fact that God is not a deceiver tricking
Descartes into perceiving something to be true when in reality it is false. These two
steps are neccesary for first, only by the fact that we know Godis not a evil deceiving
demon, can we rule out the possibiltiy that Descartes s perception is not influenced
by an evil demon. Second, without the prove that God is in existence, Descartes has a
possibility of being possessed by an evil demon, which in turn, causes him to go back
to square one of only recognizing that he exists. Only when the existence... Show

It is worrisome, as this is a important argument of Descartes. By stating he has an
clear and distinct idea of God as a perfect being, it is possible that Descartes first
premise has an error unless Descartes is certain his proof is correct. With that said,
his clear and distinct perception then relies on the existence of God which then goes
back to the standard of clear and distinct perception. With that said however, I
believe the Cartesian circle argument is a misrepresentation of Descartes true
argument. Descartes reasononing is that his ideas are clear, distinct and true. With
that said, his clear and distinct idea of God proves that God himself exists. By
Descartes idea that God is perfect and trusthworty(not a evil deceiver) Descartes
states he cannot be deceived by anything from the external world as God wouldn t
deceive him into doing so. Descartes in my opinion, is not aruging that he is not
prone to error, but rather he knows that God will not deceive him and with the
knowing that he has a mind, he can come to clear and distinct ideas if he was able
to be free from error. Though Descartes argument s premise may be false or
questioned, his reasoning is not circular, as his ideas instead are

Stop Head On Head Collision; Stop Trauma
In June of 2012 over 2,000 retired NFL players filed a lawsuit against the NFL on
the terms of blurring the science of brain trauma (Foster). The retired athletes sued
the association due to complications they began to suffer from repetitive head on
head collisions in their practices and games that led to brain trauma. In response to
the lawsuit, the NFL manipulated its rules but athletes are still at a risk of severe
TBIs, or traumatic brain injuries, every time they step on the field. The NFL needs to
enforce stricter fouls for head on head collisions, more preventative equipment,
improved coaching techniques for tackles, and educational head injury courses in
order to decrease the amount of brain trauma and fatalities in the players. The primary

This rule only slightly improved the safety of the game because it still allows players
to attack head to head if they are in a so called ВЁdefensive positionВЁ. How are the
referees able to determine if the player is prepared to be abruptly hit in the head by a
6Вґ3ВЁ 260 pound linebacker or if he deserves one more second? Elizabeth Smoots
defines the cause of a concussion as, ВЁa sudden, violent jolt to the brainВЁ and
emphasizes that previous head injuries are a huge risk factor which increases
susceptibility. Every time an offensive player sprints down the field with his eyes
on the touchdown zone and an opposing player coming towards him plows him
head first it abruptly stops his entire body and inertia causes his brain to smash into
the front of his skull because of the severe jolt. This happens play after play without
the player being taken out of the game and examined so even though every hit may
not be a diagnosable concussion, by the end of the game the cumulative effect of all
those hits could leave serious damage compared to if was the first occurrence

How should Chase have bid in the first round competition to lead the HK$3.3 billion
Disneyland financing (Bid to win or bid to lose?)
In the first round of competition, there are 17 banks competing to propose a
mandate for syndication. How should Chase make the proposal to Disney depend on
the following respects: (1) Disney s requests (2) Evaluation of the returns and risks.
Based on the previous two parts, design the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Second we analysis the macro economy of HK and the anticipated effect on Disney
HK s operating profits. As the tiger of Asia, Hong Kong has a free market economy
low taxes, unrestricted capital movement, stable HK$ linked to US$. What s more,
HK s economy was based on services, tourism and trading. According to data in
Exhibit1, the number of visitors is 1570 times its local population in 1999, with an
amount of 10.7 billion. Although we see the financial crisis had an impact on
tourism, but it recovered quickly from 11.7 billion in 1996 to 9.6 billion in 1998
then back to 10.7 billion in 1999. We anticipate a further recovery as the economy
warm up. As a tourist resort, Hong Kong Disneyland has high profit potential.
In a word, the relative exposure of credit risk is low.
* Syndicate risk
Hong Kong Disneyland asked for full underwriting. If the syndication is not
successful under subscription, Chase would end up holding too much loans and
higher credit exposure to the project. For example, if there is only one arranger and
single stage general syndication, the max exposure of Chase would be the total
amount $HK 3.3 billion in an extreme case when nobody comes to commit for the
loan.
However, a senior HK government official underscored the government s
commitment to the project at Asia Pacific Loan Market Association Conference, there
is a high potential of success syndication since other banks observed the government s
backing on this project.

The Apache Indians Essay
The Apaches, like most Native Americans, have no written history other than that
written by white men. But the story of the Apaches did not begin in the American
Southwest but in the northwestern corner of North America, the western Subarctic
region of Alaska and Canada. The Apache Indians belong to the southern branch of
the Athabascan group, whose languages constitute a large family, with speakers in
Alaska, western Canada, and American Southwest. The fact that the Apaches
originated in the western mountainous Subarctic region makes their nomadic
behavior after the arrival in the American Southwest more comprehensible; the tribes
of the Southwest were highly mobile and moved from place to place depending on
availability of food. They... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Raiding had been something to Apache had only done once in awhile but now that
they couldn t hunt buffalo any longer raiding became necessary for their survival.
The hostility between the Apache and the Spanish settlers increased when New
Mexico became a Spanish Colony . From the time of the Spanish colonization until
1886 they were noted for their warlike disposition. According to the written history of
whites, Apaches have always been hostile; in truth, serious warlike behavior could
usually be attributed to belligerent behavior on the part of the whiteman, or
misunderstandings between the two peoples.
Since no single food source could support their people for any length of time the
Athabaskan continued to move around. Because they were accustomed to living in
mountainous regions their migration southward followed the Rocky Mountain range
until they eventually reached the Southwestern us, probably in the 1500 s. The
reason for all this southward trek is not so clear but is most likely because of lack
of game and food. During the migration they broke into smaller bands that settled in
various areas of the country. Those that landed in what are now the states of
Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah adopted some of the culture of the Pueblo
Indians and eventually came to be known as Navajos; others, who became the Western
Research Paper On Paranoia
Nobody ever wants to type the dreaded three numbers, 911, into the landline
keypad. Two weeks ago, on Thursday night, my mom and sister left for hockey
practice, leaving me alone. Paranoia is always a factor when I m home alone, but
this time it was a reality.
While watching TV, I hear footsteps outside, a knock on the door, and the doorbell
ring, then another knock. Naturally, I run upstairs and look out the window in
order to see who is there. A truck with flashing yellow lights is parked in the road,
and a stout man holding a flashlight is looking in the back of the truck. To be safe, I
call my mom, and ask her if she is expecting someone. She replies with a curious no,
and asks, Why? While I am in the midst of telling her the situation, the flashlight
beams through my bedroom window, sending chills up my spine, and causing my
heart to drop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Freaked out, I obey and dial the numbers with shaky hands and press talk.
Meanwhile, I lock myself in the bathroom as the man dressed in black walks
through my yard and disappears around the corner of my house. Eyes wide open, I
wonder where he is going? Is he trying to break into the basement? Why does he
have a truck?
911, what s your emergency?
My breathing speeds up and I start rambling about the situation, My name is Lizzie

These tragedies along with the words of the Quaker poet John Whiittier are just the
beginning when trying to explain the motivation for abolitionists helping to free
slaves.

The Underground Railroad was the path that slaves took while escaping. It consisted
of stations or depots (houses), conductors (those who lived in the homes), tracks ( the
actual trail they took) and even station masters and presidents who led the efforts in
their area. The railroad analogy was used to describe many aspects of this anti slavery
activity. The code helped those involved in freeing the slaves communicate with each
other without others understanding.
Sources and Methods
The research in this paper will come from three basic sources. The first source is
over the internet. Using the key words Underground, Railroad and Ohio, articles and
books will be found. The library will be the second source. Again the key words,
Underground, Railroad and Ohio will be used to find and books and newspapers
containing valuable information. A local specialist by the name of Mr. Henry Burke
will be the third source for this paper. He will provide newspaper articles and stories
that he discovered during his research. Interviews with him will also provide valuable
insights into the knowledge he has gained throughout his research.
Format of the Paper
The paper will begin with a Review of the Research. This section will summarize all
the information gathered for this paper. Here the background will be given and the
foundation laid for the rest of the report. Next will be the Application of the

This I Believe
I believe in music. The sound of a solo instrument, a band, a voice, or a
combination of all three filling the ears with beauty, heard but not seen, is
subjective as the concept of art itself. I believe in it because the message it can have
and it s ability to be broadcasted anywhere, or maybe because of the gears behind the

Those gears consist of teamwork, a pretty vital skill if you ask me. They also involve

Analyzing Satire and Parody in Blazing Saddles
No one is born a racist bigot. In other words, racial bigotry or racial prejudice is not
genetically or biologically determined... Therefore, if most people spoke out about
racism, it would be the first step towards a revolutionary change. Dr. Charles Quist

Western era through satire with elements of parody within. John Vogel describes
Blazing Saddles as The Ultimate Western Spoof. The problem of racism is the

Some of the features that are to become key elements of the genre are to be found in
early silent Westerns from the late 1890s and early 1900s (Westerns). Since this time,
many of the famous films have become household names. For some people, the
reason they have been introduced to this film genre is because of their grandparents
or parents. For others, they may have a genuine interest to understand this culture that
has transformed itself to fit with a new era of time. Although these films have been
able to generate great amounts of revenue, they are full of underlying elements that
show the cultural issues of that time period. Moreover, some of these elements may
not be noticeable to everyone at first, but that is where the satire and parody come
into play.
Satire is a technique employed by writers to expose and criticize foolishness and
corruption of an individual or a society by using humor, irony, exaggeration or
ridicule. It intends to improve humanity by criticizing its follies1 and foibles2. A

extremely reliable, fault tolerant, consistent, efficient and cost effective way to store a
large amount of data. The MapReduce model consists of two key functions: Mapper

When a file is written in HDFS, it is divided into fixed size blocks. The client first
contacts the NameNode, which get the list of DataNode where actual data can be
stored. The data blocks are distributed across the Hadoop cluster. Figure
ref{fig.clusternode} shows the architecture of the Hadoop cluster node used for both
computation and storage. The MapReduce engine (running inside a Java virtual
machine) executes the user application. When the application reads or writes data,
requests are passed through the Hadoop textit{org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem}
class, which provides a standard interface for distributed file systems, including the
default HDFS. An HDFS client is then responsible for retrieving data from the
distributed file system by contacting a DataNode with the desired block. In the
common case, the DataNode is running on the same node, so no external network
traffic is necessary. The DataNode, also running inside a Java virtual machine,
accesses the data stored on local disk using normal file I/O

The controversy over ethnic mascots and tribal names is not a new debate as the
dispute over whether Native American mascots should be used as a team symbol
dates back to the 1970 s. Some high schools and collegiate universities across the
United States have Indian Mascots in place for half a century and in the past few
decades or so, it has become a major problem to use Indian Mascots. Over 500 Native
American organizations also announced their support for the removal of those
mascots and over 1200 schools across the United States have changed the name of
their sports teams. Aside from high school and collegiate universities having
offensive names, professional sports teams also have offensive names. People around
the United States are trying to get professional sport teams to change their names and
mascots because they feel it depicts their certain race in bad way. One team that is
resistant to changing their name and has sparked much controversy in recent times is

Firstly, delving into personal financial circumstances can be emotionally taxing, requiring a delicate balance between transparency and maintaining a sense of professionalism. It demands a deep introspective look into one's financial struggles, which can be a sensitive and private matter. Moreover, the essay must effectively communicate the reasons behind the appeal while showcasing a genuine need for financial assistance. This necessitates the ability to articulate one's thoughts clearly, persuasively, and with a touch of vulnerability to evoke empathy from the reader. It requires a keen understanding of the specific criteria for financial aid appeals, such as changes in family circumstances, unexpected expenses, or other extenuating circumstances that have affected one's financial situation. Additionally, there's a technical aspect to consider. The essay should adhere to a formal structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Clarity and coherence are crucial, as the message needs to be conveyed effectively and logically. It's essential to strike the right tone – neither too desperate nor overly formal – to make a compelling case without alienating the reader. He go to explain the online generation of our society today in comparison from the generation of our elderly society. The main idea is how distracted our society is by social networking. The way that we do not go anyway without being attached to the social network, whether it is texting, phone call, reading blog on the internetor even just to check facebook. Our society no longer just take a walk to smell the flowers or notice the beauty of nature that is all around us. This distraction follows society to the workplace, because our society do not want to be away for the social networking. Many employees need their cell on their desk in the workplace because they are so
  • 3. Health Is Mentally, Spiritually And Socially What is Health? Mentally, Physically, Spiritually Socially Kelsey Whiting University of Massachusetts Boston Author Note This paper was prepared for Nursing 212, Section 4, taught by Professor Peterson. Health was once a very basic word with simply one meaning. For many years health professionals defined health as the absence of diagnosable disease , and it was as simple as that (Murdaugh, Parsons Pender, 2006, p. 6). If you didn t have a disease then you were considered healthy. In today s world, that is just one of the many meanings of the word health . The world is so diverse, composed of different social, ethnic, cultural, and religious groups whom all have different values and beliefs. These different opinions have allowed the medical field to grow which has ultimately helped shape a multitude of definitions for the word health . We now understand that there are different degrees as to how healthy someone is. Just because two people lack disease does not mean that they are equally as healthy (Murdaugh, Parsons Pender, 2006, p. 6). There are many characteristics of a given person that allow them to fall on a spectrum of healthiness. The medical field no longer defines the word health in as basic of a form as the absence of diagnosable disease , but rather as a compositions many components; mental, physical, emotional, and social. Mental health is a person s state with regard to their psychological well being. It is important to have good

If one twin dies during infancy or a fetal death, the surviving twin has a higher potential of being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. A survey was conducted in England and Wales to compare birthweight specific cerebral palsy and to analyze was there a connection between cerebral palsy and like sex and unlike sex twins, also did the death of a twinsibling increase the chances of the surviving twin having cerebral palsy. The birth weight was a factor in the survey due to a higher occurrence of preterm births in twins. If a child is born pre mature, he or she is at a higher risk of hypoxic ischaemic cerebral impairment. Data was gathered on all the registered twins born in 1994 and 1995. The twins where one died and the other survived was part of the sample. Also part of the sample group was whether the twins were of like or unlike sex. Two different national surveys were completed to analyze any significance between the surviving twin being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and if the twins were the same sex. One of the surveys was completed by the general practitioner inquiring whether the surviving twin had cerebral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the results from the surveys is that if a surviving twin is the same sex, then the chances of the survivor being diagnosed with cerebral palsy are greatly increased. However, that was questioned in the article if there was enough of a difference to statistically verify this statement. There is a connection between low birth weight and multiple pregnancies; both are a risk factor in cerebral palsy. If one of the twins died, there was a higher occurrence of cerebral palsy for twins that were like sex than unlike sex. Same sex twins that were born with a low birth rate were at a higher rate of being diagnosed with cerebral
  • 5. Describe The Importance Of The Colosseum The Colosseum Koch, Matt Do you know what one of the most important structures to mankind history is? The Colosseum. The importance of the Colosseum, otherwise known originally as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was that many of the materials, styles, and architecture were inspiring to many architects and designers constructing today s modern facilities and structures. The emperor of Rome at the time, Vespasian, began building the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) in 72 AD. They believed that in ancient Rome the patron was more noble and loyal than the architects, and the architects were just craftsmen and hired hands (Woog, 2014). So as of today the designers and architects are unknown to the world, and will probably never be found out about because if limited evidence. Floor plans, 3 dimensional scale models, perspective drawings, and full size design sketches are what were used by the anonymous architects and designers of the Colosseum (Hopkins, 2011). The site of construction was formerly known as the Golden House, owned and lived in by Nero the Emperor. This was drained and as a precaution against potential earthquake damage concrete foundations six metres deep were put down to support it (Cartwright, 2012). And eight long years of hard work and design later the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) was completed in 80 CE. There were many materials mixed in the project of constructing the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre). The walls of the Colosseum were built with stone. They made use of a number of arches in order to keep the weight down, but yet still keep them strong (Cartwright, 2012). The floor of the Colosseum was wooden and usually covered in sand most of the time. But the floor was taken out due to heavy weathering in 1674 AD. And about 19 miles outside of Rome in a little town of Tivoli were quarries where the Romans mined there stone blocks out of to construct the walls of the Colosseum. Some other material they had used to construct the colosseum include, limestone brick, concrete and volcanic stone (otherwise known as tufa ), pumice stone. And including bronze, which was used for statues around the stadium. But some parts of the colosseum that are made of concrete are not authentic original to the
  • 6. Kansas Water Conservation Water is a resource that has always been available to us, and I feel as a society we have taken it for granted for many generations. While I was doing the research for this water conservation essay, it opened my eyes to the importance of my generation to preserve the remaining aquifer. Although I don t reside in Southwest Kansas, I have very strong ties to this area of Kansas where the family farm is located. The impact of not preserving water will not only affect our family farm in Grant and Stevens county, but also the cattle that graze on the grass in the pasture. Along with our pasture, we have farm ground that is irrigated to raise silage, corn, and wheat; which is sold to feed yards in the area for cattle. Without water, the impact ... When it comes to future farmers, they can pay close attention to water per acre feet regulations and follow them closely. Another way to extend water when it comes to agriculture is to use less water intensive crops. Examples are grain sorghum, cotton and sunflowers. Repairing leaks in irrigation and utilizing new and improved ways to irritate are other possible solutions. One new way to irrigate is the PMDI (Precision Mobile Drip irrigation technology system called (Dragon Line). This new system is predicting a potential for 20 50% water savings compared to conventional irrigation. I believe that for my generation to help with water conservation, we need to be diligent about educating everyone in the past, present and future about the importance of not taking this precious natural resource for
  • 7. What Role Does Perception Play In Critical Thinking Perception is the organisation, identification and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. Like perception, logic plays a role in critical thinking. Critical thinking is the process in which one mentally explores deeper than the superficial matters at hand into the deeper layers in order to find out what the real issues are. However, when it comes to weighing their beneficial impact on the critical thinking process, logic and perception are by no means equal. While logic is firmly rooted in reason, perceptions are just as firmly rooted in one s senses and can easily be corrupted. Many kinds of faulty logic or perception interfere with our ability to think critically, for example, superstition, argument from ignorance, false analogies, irrelevant comparison and fallacies. Therefore, I believe that perception is certainly not reality and most mistakes in thinking are inadequacies of perception rather than mistakes of logics. Perception is defined as the ability to see, hear or becomes aware of something through the senses (Nature of Logic and Perception). However, since the senses are susceptible to personal interpretation, they are therefore potentially unreliable sources of data. If one is able of rationally thinking through the information that they perceive, then they are more likely to make accurate assumptions. However, if one is highly emotive, they may not be able to separate the emotion from the data they perceive,

Laura lives in a beautiful mansion on the coast with her handsome, wealthy husband Martin. This wealth allows Laura the opportunity to stay at home rather than working outside of the home. However, behind closed doors this perfect life is very different from what the outside world sees. Laura is constantly being beaten, ridiculed, and criticized by her husband. In addition the Department of Justice Canada states that abuse may affect virtually every aspect of an abused person s life. It can harm their physical and mental health, their ability to work, and their relationship with their children and loved ones In this movie Laura does not appear to be suffering from such things, in fact she seems to be coping very well, with the exception of the not trusting others, and not wanting to enter into another relationship. These mental issues are an important part of spousal abuse that I feel should have been portrayed more in this movie, in order for the audience to fully understand the wide variety of possible consequences of abuse. When looking at how this movie portrays Martin, I believe that it covers some very common areas that can lead to spousal abuse. First

Eugenics, derived from the Greek word eugenes meaning well born, is defined as the study or belief that by encouraging people with good genetic traits to reproduce and discourage those people with less desirable traits the human race can benefit. There were certain groups of people who were affected by these sterilizationlaws, including people that were mentally disabled or ill and those from socially unacceptable areas of life, that were adopted in 32 states starting in the 1930 s. These sterilizations were done on over 350,000 people in the span eleven years between 1934 and 1945 (Kaelber), leading the United States into one of the darkest parts of our history. Gregor Johann Mendel was an abbot at the St. Thomas Abbey in Brno, in the modern day Czech Republic. He is credited as being the father of genetics because of his work crossbreeding pea plants in order to favor certain traits such as height, color, and pod shape. He worked in the late 1850 s to the early 1860 s. Even though farmers had been doing this similar practice for centuries, his experiments established many of the heredity rules we now refer to as Mendelian inheritance. Around this time another theory of genes was coming out from a man by the name of Sir Francis Galton. Galton is credited as the Father of Eugenics and is also known for the popular phrase Nature vs Nurture . Galton studied the upper class in Great Britain and believed came to the conclusion of their superior genetic makeup was

All three of these captives used God as a motivation to keep pushing forward because they believed that God would free them from their suffering. In Brinkley and Dove s writings Rosa Parks and Rosa they describe how Parks stood up for what she believed was right. Parks dreamed of the day her actions would help end segregation. Park s dignity and pride were also an important aspect in her rebellious act. Parks knew what would happen if she stood up to the bus driver but she did it anyways which shows she was a strong and level headed woman. According to Brinkley and Dove s writings, Parks valued the needs of others before her own when she protested racial segregation obeying the Jim Crow law. Parks believed that everyone should be treated with respect and equality. For example, Parks stated in Brinkley s story, From Rosa Parks, after her courageous act, I knew I had the strength of my ancestors with me, and their dignity as well. • 16. His Girl Friday, Double Idemnity Feminist film theorists have argued that in classical cinema, the spectator s pleasure revolves around images of the female body. Within the diegesis, the woman often appears as an object to be looked at and acted upon, while the male protagonist is usually granted a more active role, both in terms of his agency in the narrative, and in terms of his enunciative authority. This hypothesis is backed up by elements of two films studied this semester: His Girl Fridayby Howard Hawks (1940) and Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder (1944). This is seen through the supporting role that the main femalecharacters take in the movies, the power that the male characters have over the females, and the way that the womans image is used to draw attention to specific aspects of the plot. In both of these movies, the females take a subordinate and supporting role to the male figures. First, in His Girl Friday, Hildy is a newspaper reporter, who works for her ex husband, the editor. In the 1940s, it was customary for women to serve their men at home, and Hildy extended that with her husband to the work place. Every reporter has to answer to the editor, so Walter was Hildy s boss at home and at work. The movie opens up, and Hildy is returning from a long vacation after the divorce. She returns to Walter Burns, to inform him that she is now engaged. During that conversation, we see a glimpse of how their relationship worked. While Hildy is trying to tell Walter about Bruce, her

From her birth, she was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603 reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. One of her acts as queen was confining Elizabeth to the Tower of London for two months on suspicion of collaborating against her plans. Mary suspected that she was pregnant, and Elizabeth?s probability at descending the throne was diminishing rapidly, although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January 15, 1559 Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the packed London streets as the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told her people ?I thank you with all my heart.? After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the queen?s right to absolute power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and warmth. Elizabeth was considered by most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched. The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly performed on women as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future children, and is still being practiced today in many countries around the world, including the United States. Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being sterilized, or she has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by either being told it is a temporary or reversible procedure, or being told that by not consenting, there would be negative impacts to her immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented in the United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged, unwed, mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many people within a minority group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat overpopulation. This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their own reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced sterilization in these groups of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent sterilization of women without their consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to were those who received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive
  • 20. Napa Valley History Napa Valley is a region of California (United States), known for its wine production. Napa s name derives from Wappo which is the name of the indigenous Indians who inhabited the region. The valley is located in Napa County. Its length is 48 kilometres long, concentrates more than 300 wineproducers and represents, somehow, the new industry, not only because it produces excellent quality wines, but because it has managed its merger with gastronomy and tourism. Each year about 8 million people visit Napa Valley, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in California (Gmelch et al., 2011). According to Paul Wagner , Janeen Olsen and Liz Thach (2010), despite the economic difficulties worldwide, this market continues growing thanks to the increased demand from a new generation of consumers who are keen on wine, the Millennial Generation. They are people of both sexes, aged between 20 and 32 years, representing over 70 million of the US population. Paul Wagner points out: They are young, have no fear and they were born with a computer under his arm and an MP3 in the pocket consequently they do not accept established traditions about wine, they are adventurous and wine is not just a drink, but a ticket to travel to other places, to other countries . ... • 21. Essay on Arguments for and against Lowering the Drinking Age The controversy on the proper drinking age is one that has been repeatedly discussed and researched over the years. Its common to hear the argument If someone is old enough to take a bullet for their country, they should be allowed to drink alcohol. But is that enough justification? Some would say no. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism(NIAAA) it is estimated that in 2004 there were more than 1,700 student deaths, 599,000 injuries, and 696,000 assaults annually associated with excessive drinking (Fennell 247). Research shows that alcohol consumption, heavy drinking, and daily alcohol use has declined among young adults age 18 20 since the 1980s (Wechsler). Along with the decline in consumption, the percentage of alcohol related traffic fatalities has also dramatically declined from the 1980s until 1997 when it leveled off. (Wechsler). (Wechsler). Despite the positive results that have come about since this law was passed, it is pretty clear that it has not prevented people under 21 from obtaining and drinking alcohol. College campuses across the country report problems with students binge drinking and students who drink deliberately to get drunk (Smith). Today, the generally accepted definition of binge drinking is the consumption of five or more drinks in a row at least once in the past 2 weeks (Binge). Some of the reasons given for binge drinking range from being curious to trying to escape from the ever present stress in our lives. The latter reason is more prevalent in college students. College students are more likely to engage in heavy drinking than their peers who do not attend college with 2 in 5 students nationally engaging in binge drinking on at least 1 occasion in the past 2 weeks (Wechsler). Social Role And Social Roles Everybody in the world belongs to a subcultural group (people that come together that seek out others sharing similar ideas or views) or plays a social role in it. Playing in a social role, as individuals, we act in certain situations differently, such as in a work place, home, or around your peer groups. I believe it s a real occurrence that a lot of people deal with daily. The ideology of a subculture group or the social roles you play forms by separating or belonging in it and forming personal norms, sanctions, material objects, symbols, language patterns, and social institutions. Such as me being an employee (sales associate) at Payless and being a younger sister to an older brother which have similar ways but they also have a few differences. To begin with, when it comes to working for an economic institution I play a certain social role when being a sales associate. I wouldn t act the same way at my job like I do with my family members or my friends such as clowning around, teasing, cursing, or pulling pranks on each other. In my job description there are norms and sanctions that I need to follow, breathe, and live by them. I m responsible for following the Company s safety and environmental laws, regulations, and procedures at work. For instance, always come in on time (unless you call in), follow the safety policies for ourselves and customers such as prevention of accidents removing things that can cause a fall or slip such as a 3 or 8 step ladder s or carts (children might mistake it as a toy), making sure boxes on top of the rack shelves are less than 8 inches high (not in the way for sprinkles or falling over), making sure each aisle is clean (nobody s going to come into a dirty store), putting shoes in their right particular areas and sizes from kids on the left hand side, women s in the middle, and the men s on the right hand side and straight across the back of the store. In addition, to safety reasons in work wear we can wear almost about anything but must be comfortable like business wear or casual (no jeans, open back sandals/heels, and must be knee length) and have a Payless store tag always, also when it comes to lifting boxes we must always wear a black back support belt while lifting.

The first part of the large bowel, called the colon continues to absorb water and mineral nutrients from the food matter and serves as a storage place for waste matter. • 30. The Nickel Electrode Batteries Are Vulnerable The nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to both reversible and irreversible degradation. The reversible degradation forms can be rectified by fully discharging the cell and then recharging it. The irreversible forms of degradation vary depending on the types of electrodes and the application of the battery. However, the irreversible forms of degradation are majorly linked to the number and depth of the discharge /recharge cycles and the operation temperatures. The primary causes of irreversible degradation include the decomposition of the organic material into the electrolyte, corrosion of the nickel electrode, dendrite formation on the surface of the negative electrolyte, electrode poisoning, and the failure of the gas barrier. Additionally, the nickel electrode batteries are vulnerable to thermal runaway, which can be described as a vicious cycle caused by heating and augmented discharge and voltage. The batteries are also susceptible to gassing, which can lead to the buildup of pressure in the cell that may lead to permanent battery damage. The batteries are also engrossed by a number of safety and environmental concerns because they are manufactured using an extremely toxic metal cadmium. However, the concerns have been lessened through regulation, keen monitoring during manufacturing, and elevated recycling efficiencies. Currently, there are three major categories of the nickel cadmium and nickel iron batteries; namely, vented sintered plate, pocket plate,

In order for something to be certain, it must at least have duration in the mind. This means that even when not concentrated on, it is still knowledge with the potential to be certain. Some beliefs, on the other hand, can be certain without God s existence for their truth, but only for as long as they are concentrated on. Such beliefs are clear and distinct, and therefore true, when thought of and not dependent upon a non deceiving God that would assure us of their truth. Their truth is established by their being clear and distinct when concentrated on. The contradiction lies with what Descartes considers eternal truths , that geometrical facts, such as the area of a circle is equal to ПЂr^2, or the fact that three angles of a triangle are equal to two right angles, are all only true because of Gods existence and non deceptive nature. This with consideration to Descartes response to Arnauld, leaves up with the implication that an eternal truth is only true once we clearly and distinctly perceive it, and then not true, when the attentiveness of geometric truths leaves our mind; sounding like a

In a study that was reported on May 24 in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Nicholas Pyenson, the museum s curator of fossil marine mammals, and collaborators Graham Slater at the University of Chicago and Jeremy Goldbogen at Stanford University, went back and found the evolution of the size of whales in over thirty million years of history. They discovered that the huge whales showed up along multiple branches in the family tree roughly two to three million years ago. A reason for whales having those bigger body sizes is that by the increase of ice sheets located in Northern Hemisphere, whales had to change the way they ontaimed food
  • 43. Essay on The Evolution of Reptiles There are four main groups of reptiles, known as Crocodilians, Squamates, Tuataras, and Turtles. Crocodilians consists of large reptiles which includes alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and caimans. Squamates are lizards, snakes, and worm lizards. A worm lizard is a subterranean burrowing reptile that resembles an earthworm, a legless lizard. Tuataras are a group of reptiles that are lizard like in appearance but are different from squamates because their skull isn t jointed. Turtles are the most ancient reptiles alive today. The scale structure of a reptile are not individual like those of a fish, but are a continuous sheet of epidermal tissue. Hard shelled eggs provide a protective environment in which the embryo can develop and enables reptiles to lay their eggs in dry environments. On the other hand, amphibians must lay their eggs in or near water. The reptilian skeleton differs from other vertebrates in many ways. For example, reptiles have many bones in their lower jaw to enable them a greater bite mobility, but mammals only have one bone in their lower jaw called the mandible. Mammals ears consist of three bones(the malleus, incus, and stapes) while reptiles have just one bone(stapes). Reptiles also have only one occipital condyle(a protrusion on the skull that forms a joint that enables movement of the head) mammals on the other hand consist of two occipital condyles (Laura Klappenbach 2014). Scientists say reptiles evolved from amphibians 340 million years ago. The first reptile was an insect eater. Reptiles were more adaptable and able to
  • 44. Descartes s Argument For The Existence Of God Descartes states in order to find the truth, we must be able to clearly and distinctly perceive something to be true, we must prove two things. First, proving that the existence of God is true. Second, the fact that God is not a deceiver tricking Descartes into perceiving something to be true when in reality it is false. These two steps are neccesary for first, only by the fact that we know Godis not a evil deceiving demon, can we rule out the possibiltiy that Descartes s perception is not influenced by an evil demon. Second, without the prove that God is in existence, Descartes has a possibility of being possessed by an evil demon, which in turn, causes him to go back to square one of only recognizing that he exists. Only when the existence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is worrisome, as this is a important argument of Descartes. By stating he has an clear and distinct idea of God as a perfect being, it is possible that Descartes first premise has an error unless Descartes is certain his proof is correct. With that said, his clear and distinct perception then relies on the existence of God which then goes back to the standard of clear and distinct perception. With that said however, I believe the Cartesian circle argument is a misrepresentation of Descartes true argument. Descartes reasononing is that his ideas are clear, distinct and true. With that said, his clear and distinct idea of God proves that God himself exists. By Descartes idea that God is perfect and trusthworty(not a evil deceiver) Descartes states he cannot be deceived by anything from the external world as God wouldn t deceive him into doing so. Descartes in my opinion, is not aruging that he is not prone to error, but rather he knows that God will not deceive him and with the knowing that he has a mind, he can come to clear and distinct ideas if he was able to be free from error. Though Descartes argument s premise may be false or questioned, his reasoning is not circular, as his ideas instead are

The retired athletes sued the association due to complications they began to suffer from repetitive head on head collisions in their practices and games that led to brain trauma. In response to the lawsuit, the NFL manipulated its rules but athletes are still at a risk of severe TBIs, or traumatic brain injuries, every time they step on the field. The NFL needs to enforce stricter fouls for head on head collisions, more preventative equipment, improved coaching techniques for tackles, and educational head injury courses in order to decrease the amount of brain trauma and fatalities in the players. Every time an offensive player sprints down the field with his eyes on the touchdown zone and an opposing player coming towards him plows him head first it abruptly stops his entire body and inertia causes his brain to smash into the front of his skull because of the severe jolt. This happens play after play without the player being taken out of the game and examined so even though every hit may not be a diagnosable concussion, by the end of the game the cumulative effect of all those hits could leave serious damage compared to if was the first occurrence

From the time of the Spanish colonization until 1886 they were noted for their warlike disposition. According to the written history of whites, Apaches have always been hostile; in truth, serious warlike behavior could usually be attributed to belligerent behavior on the part of the whiteman, or misunderstandings between the two peoples. Since no single food source could support their people for any length of time the Athabaskan continued to move around. Because they were accustomed to living in mountainous regions their migration southward followed the Rocky Mountain range until they eventually reached the Southwestern us, probably in the 1500 s. The reason for all this southward trek is not so clear but is most likely because of lack of game and food. During the migration they broke into smaller bands that settled in various areas of the country. Those that landed in what are now the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah adopted some of the culture of the Pueblo Indians and eventually came to be known as Navajos; others, who became the Western

It has two core projects: Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and MapReduce programming model cite{dean2008mapreduce}. HDFS is a distributed file system that splits and stores data on nodes throughout a cluster, with a number of replicas. It provides an extremely reliable, fault tolerant, consistent, efficient and cost effective way to store a large amount of data. The MapReduce model consists of two key functions: Mapper and Reducer. The Mapper processes input data splits in parallel through different map tasks and sends sorted, shuffled outputs to the Reducers that in turn groups and processes them using a reduce task for each group. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a file is written in HDFS, it is divided into fixed size blocks. The client first contacts the NameNode, which get the list of DataNode where actual data can be stored. The data blocks are distributed across the Hadoop cluster. Figure ref{fig.clusternode} shows the architecture of the Hadoop cluster node used for both computation and storage. The MapReduce engine (running inside a Java virtual machine) executes the user application. When the application reads or writes data, requests are passed through the Hadoop textit{org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem} class, which provides a standard interface for distributed file systems, including the default HDFS. An HDFS client is then responsible for retrieving data from the distributed file system by contacting a DataNode with the desired block. In the common case, the DataNode is running on the same node, so no external network traffic is necessary. The DataNode, also running inside a Java virtual machine, accesses the data stored on local disk using normal file I/O
