Centervale Police Patrol
All police departments grapple with the challenge of allocating their limited resources to meet to meet
law enforcement needs of the communities they serve. Crucial to alleviating the cost pressures the
departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and expenses, such as
fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies would result in dollar
savings. As such, it is the duty of police chiefs to determine what the patrols will look like regarding
when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to outline how the Centervale
Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the needs of Centervale.
Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the
community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by
diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the
assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters for
both sides of the railroad tracks with fairness although with an emphasis on the crime prone north.

Random preventive patrol strategies aim to increase visibility in the community to deter crime and
reduce the general public s fear of crime. However, this method of patrols is ineffective at
apprehending offenders. Directed patrols in Centervale would use hot spot policing approach by
increasing the presence of uniforms in the northern side of the railroad tracks, where crime is most
prevalent at night. However, that would come at price to the south side since the residents of the south
of railroad tracks contribute more to the town s taxes. The assistant chief would have to use the money
coming from the south side for crime deterrence in the north to prevent migration of criminals to the

Volunteering At Memorial Hermann
Many people don t realize the true value of volunteering, but I ve come to understand the incredible
impact of volunteering through my experience at Memorial Hermann. Mahatma Gandhi once said,
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. For me, his words could not
be truer. Volunteering at Memorial Hermann transformed my life by teaching me lessons through
small moments. One such instant occurred when I went to wheel an old lady visiting her husband. The
lady and I conversed for many minutes about college, my future plans, and life in general. When we
reached the lobby, the lady wished me luck in all my future endeavors. Coincidentally, I wheeled the
lady several times after that and each time she would remember

Farhad Manjoo s Irresponsibility
In the article Hacking Victims Deserve Empathy, Not Ridicule, Farhad Manjoo discusses the issue of
personal security online. In the recent Ashley Madison database hack, more than 30 million people
had their online security compromised, which has lead internet users to question the availability of
their personal information online. Those of us left unaffected by the hack have scoffed at the
irresponsibility of Ashley Madison users; however, Manjoo insists we must be empathetic, since the
same situation could happen to any of us. He states that so many users forget that the internet is a
public domain and rely so much on the convenience of the it, that they post private information they
wouldn t share otherwise, which can potentially be accessible

Oral Communication In Health And Social Care
Oral communication can also be one form of communication that is effective in health and social care
settings. However, as healthcare professionals provides services for clients, they tend to speak to them
continuously to ensure that communication is effective when providing services for those utilizing
health and social care provisions. For example, if a client is supposed to undergo major surgery, the
healthcare professional will speak to the client orally to make sure that the client is aware of his or her
treatment. Oral communication can be utilize in 1 1 context in relation to healthcare provider and

When activity is required to be taken quickly it is best to transmit a message orally. In the event that
the officials work burden is high then they quit writing and by oral guidelines they finish their
message transmission and discharged their work load furthermore it spares time. Effectiveness is
another advantage of oral communication, with the assistance of varieties in the tone, pitch and power
of voice, the speaker (service provider and service user) can pass on shades of importance. This
element likewise adds to the viability of oral correspondence. Easiness is also another advantage of
this form of communication. It is so natural strategy for communication. It needs little readiness to
communicate something specific. No need of pens, pencils and other composition gear s which are
required in composed communication. The disadvantages of these forms of communications is that, it
creates misconception. The speaker frequently gives message without having appropriately sorted out

Types Of Personality Tests Out There
There are many types of personality tests out there. Some of them are better than others. These tests
are used to help determine the different personality types. Many employers use these tests to help
place new employees. They also use them to help determine if an employee will work out or not. It
can be important to know your own personality type. Understanding how you learn and what type of
jobs might be best for you can be very helpful in your own life. Many employers use tests like the one
found on the personality page website. One of their goals is to find employees with the best
personality for the job. Using these tests can save a company a lot of time and effort when hiring new
employees. For example, Overnight Transportation in Atlanta found that using such tests reduced their
on the job delinquency by 50% 100% (Livingston, p. 54). This is a huge drop saves them so much
time and money by hiring more reliable people. Though there are some downsides to these personality
tests by employers. To get the most accurate assessment you have to be honest when taking the test.
When an employer is looking for the best personality for the job a perspective employee has motives
not to be honest. A complicating factor is that people filling out the survey do not have a strong
incentive to be honest. In fact, they have a greater incentive to guess what the job requires and answer
the questions in a way they think the company is looking for (Livingston, p. 55). This is

Mending Wall By Robert Frost
On the other hand, interpretative strategies refer to those activities that will help the students to
develop their ability to unravel meanings and improve their critical approach to the literary text. Some
literary theorists argue that interpretation only takes place when the reader has developed more
influence on his/her construction of meaning from a text (Schade, 2002). Consequently, through the
interpretative activities, the student will be able to (Beach, Appleman, Fecho, Simon, 2017):
 Identify their personal emotions to those met in the different characters of the text;
 Understand the characters actions in the social and cultural context for example for Macbeth at the
Elizabethan period;
 Elaborate on connections with other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second reading may be required for better understanding due to the length of the poem and the
medium level of technicity. By the end, some minutes are provided to the student to immerse
themselves in visual and vivid aspect of Frost s poem. The teacher asks the students for their reaction.
This should lead to the prominent item of the poem which is the wall and the fence and the way the
poem consists of two contrasting ideas with something there that doesn t love a wall and good fences
make good neighbours . In this respect, the class is divided into two groups with those who are for and
against the contrasting ideas. Time is allocated for each group to find words/sentence in the poem
which may support these ideas. Sentence such as my apple tree will never get across can be used as
arguments for good fences make good friends . Associative words identified during the warm up
exercise can be used to back each group arguments. A small debate could be undertaken between the
main representatives of each ideas with the teacher acting as moderator. This activity will contribute to
the understating of the dual concepts and the nuances that exists in the

The Common Raccoon ( P. Lotor
The common raccoon (P. lotor) has been said to be one of the most widespread urban mammalian
carnivores. Characterised by its fox like face, bushy striped tail, and unmistakable mask of dark
patches around their eyes, the growing population of urban raccoons has become somewhat of an
epidemic. These small creatures are known for their relatively high intellect, enabling them to access
human resources. Raccoons are omnivores, and have been consistently observed to eat virtually
anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and secondary
consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social structure
relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal behaviors.
Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach adolescence, at
which time they leave), or an individual. They are notorious carriers of disease, can outcompete native
species, and can be quite aggressive when confronted by humans. For these reasons and more, the
urban raccoon is considered a pest, and in many areas there have been countless efforts to control their
populations (Gehrt, S. D., et. al., 2010, Pg. 35 47). This paper will propose actions that would need to
be taken in order to deter raccoons from pursuing human waste as a food source in the effort of
controlling their population.
Due to the raccoon s opportunistic nature, overtime the species have found

Akbar Research Paper
The Mughal dynasty was established by a man named Babur who ruled over the state of Hindustan
(India). As a youth, Babur, a prince of the house of Timur, was unable to maintain his sovereignty over
the small Central Asian state bequeathed to him by his father (Source?). Instead, he turned his
attention to the southeast, where he occupied Kabul in 1504, and almost immediately embarked on his
conquest of India (Source?). By 1527, Babur had defeated both the forces of the Lodi sultan and those
of the Hindu confederacy (Source?). However, at the time of his death, in 1530, he had not yet
transformed his territorial acquisitions into an empire (Source?). This task was left to his son
Humayun, who lacked the military genius of his father and soon forfeited the Mughal foothold in
India (Source?). Only through Persian military intervention did he manage to regain the capital cities
of Agra and Delhi in 1555; however, Humayun s son Akbar was credited with the real foundation of
the Mughal Empire (Source?).
During his reign from 1556 to 1605, Akbar established dominion over northern and central India, as
far east as Bengal. He secured the northwestern frontier, which served as a gateway to India for so
many previous invasions. Akbar s most important territorial gain was the sultanate of Gujarat, in the
west, which provided the Mughal empire with enormous wealth from its commercial centers, and
access to the Arabian Sea. This presented an opportunity for lucrative trade with both

Essay about Adderall and Attention Deficit Hyperactive...
Sadly but surely in today s society we would go through any lengths to free ourselves of any
discomfort or hardships with a quick fix. Adderall is a common drug introduced in 1996, solely
prescribed for people diagnosed with Attention deficit hyperactive disorder, a neurological based
behavioral disorder prevalent in both children and adults. The disorder ADHD prevents one s ability to
concentrate, in addition to impulsive reactions and hyperactivity. Over the past decade, students have
been diagnosed with the disorder, claiming their inability to concentrate in school which affects their
studies. There has been much research regarding the ADHD disorder as a neurological disorder

For one, it aids them in concentrating on specific tasks for long period of time. Also it allows them to
stay alert and awake during the day, with a significant improvement in focus and less distraction, and
relieves a person of drowsiness. It simply works by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels in
the brain. Moreover, ADHD diagnosed patients have been proven to be positively affected by the drug
and have demonstrated more effective functioning.
Although adderall is advantageous for individuals with the disorder, the drug is not recommended for
recreational purposes. Over the recent years, adderall abuse has become increasingly popular amongst
eager college students looking to focus better in their studies and ultimately perform better
academically. According to SAMHSA s National Survey on Drug and Health, it is deemed a whopping
6.4 percent of college students have used adderall for recreational purposes. It is unfortunate how
commonly the drug is misused. It is said by the National Institute on Drug Abuse that for individuals
with ADHD, medications such as adderall can be calming, whereas others taking the drug without the
disorder can be very dangerous if not monitored by a trained professional.
For those individuals prescribed adderall or attempting to take the drug for recreational purposes must
consider the precautions. For one, adderall is an amphetamine, meaning it has the same category as the

Juxtaposition In A Modern Proposal
Swift when faced with a humanitarian crisis, a tyrannical English Empire, and a strong divide between
social classes, uses his pent up agitation to develop a piece of satire which both compels and shocks
those who read his work. A Modern Proposal is centered around the idea of cannibalism. In Swift s
reformation of Irish society a new division of laborers would be created labeled breeders . These
breeders would raise infants to the ripe age of one, and then sell them to the wealthy to be slaughtered,
served and possibly made into apparel. Throughout his proposal Swift uses comic juxtaposition and
grotesque elements to further convey his criticism of Ireland. By comparing the lower class breeders
and their children to animals, Swift uses comic juxtaposition to hone in on the notion that the
impoverished people in society have long been denied the humanity the wealthy pride themselves on.
No longer being seen as meaningful, important human beings, the poor are left begging for the respect
that comes with money. Pregnant woman seen as being mere vessels for produce in his imaginary
world, are compared to cows saying Men would become as fond of their wives during the time of their
pregnancy as they are now of their mares in foal, their cows in calf, their sows when they are ready to
Farrow (5). By linking together items which normally do not go together, Swift is able to divulgue
into the responsibilities and vulnerabilities associated with womanhood. Swift futher s his

Analysis Of The Triad Of Impairments
On researching the historical, theoretical and clinical perspectives regarding ASD, I found the
information concerning the Triad of Impairments especially interesting as it explains the main
difficulties I encounter within my profession, being that of problems in social communication,
interaction and imagination. I had previously considered these secondary issues resulting from ASD
and not the primary aspects. On realising this, it has helped me revise my practice into dealing with
these principal characteristics instead of treating them as a derivative cause. The revised notion of the
Triad of Impairments by Pellicano (2007) was particularly motivating, including the Theory of Mind,
Executive Functioning and Central Coherence. This new revised

The Shipman s Tale Essay
The Shipman s Tale The Shipman s Tale, one of the many tales in Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury
Tales, is exactly suited to the Shipman s personality and profession as given in The Prologue. The
shipman is described by Chaucer in the prologue as very sneaky, deceitful, and even pirate like. The
Shipman s tale matches his personality and profession because The Shipman s Tale is one of trickery

The following day, the merchant was on his way to Bruges. The following Sunday, the monk,

A Brief Note On Book The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Sarah Jane Reshetiloff
Mr. O Hearn
Honors British Literature
26 September 2015
Social Satire in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s novel The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn is a masterful social satire that demonstrates the awakening of a young, adventurous
boy living in a culture of slavery.
He uses humor and an unreliable narrator to convey social satire in the novel to reflect the flaws of
society toward in the antebellum south.
The novel was published in 1884, just after slavery was abolished in 1865. Needless to say, racism
was prevalent and although slavery was outlawed, colored people did not have equal rights to white
people. African Americans across the country were still treated disrespectfully, beaten, and often
murdered. With the outlawing of slavery in the south, racism was much more common there than in
the north. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn takes place on the Mississippi River along Missouri
and other various southern states.
In the story, Huck Finn is a young boy who seeks adventures and does not wish to be civilized by the
women in charge of him. He sets out on a journey to help free a slave named Jim, in a time period
where slavery is legal in the south. They encounter many obstacles such as other characters, means of
transportation, the possibility of getting caught, and also the war Huck is at with himself. He battles
over whether he is doing the right thing. He feels that freeing Jim is morally correct but because of the
society he

Reaction Temperature And The Rate Of Reaction
Discussion The experiment investigated the relationship between temperature and the rate of reaction
for the reaction of iron (III) nitrate with sodium thiosulfate. The results show that the rate of iron (III)
reacting forming iron (II) increases as the temperature of the solutions increases. Table 1 shows that
when the temperature of the reactants is 4℃, it takes 54.173 seconds for the reaction to occur to the
stage that the cross to appears. The time taken for the solution to reach the same transparency reduces
to 16.37 seconds when the temperature is 25℃ and to 2.09 seconds when the temperature is 65℃. The
line of best fit in Graph 1 suggests that there is an inverse relationship between temperature and
reaction time. This indicates that as the temperature increases, the rate of reaction also increases. The
results for the rate of reaction, as seen in Table 2, suggest that as the temperature increases, the rate of
reaction increases at a progressively greater rate. When the temperature increases 21℃ from 4℃ to
25℃, the rate of reaction increases from 1.846 s 1 to 6.1100 s 1 while a similar increase in
temperature from 25℃ to 65℃ has a much more significant difference in the rate of reaction: 47.85s 1
at 65℃. This supports the hypothesis, as the rate of reaction increases as the temperature increases.
According to collision theory, increasing the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the particles
in the solution. This allows both a net increase in the energy

Taxation On Scholarships And Fellowship Grants
Taxation on Scholarships and Fellowship Grants
David Fuelling and his fellow professionals at Florida Tax Advisors are waiting to help students file
their income tax returns. People attending college, no matter their age, will find that there are certain
scholarships and fellowship grants that are taxable. These moneys received for education may be
considered as a form of income, and therefore are subject to taxation just like the wages and earnings
from a job. It is important that these students seek the help of a qualified tax preparer, ensuring that
their taxes are filed correctly.
What is a Scholarship?
Many current and future college students seek the financial aid of scholarship. A scholarship is a
monetary award that is given to a student based upon specifications set forth by the scholarship donor.
The largest benefit to a scholarship is that it is not a loan which must be repaid. Scholarships are given
based upon merit, qualifications, and demographics that are predetermined. Any type of student can
receive a scholarship, they are not given based upon income levels alone. As long as the student shows
an aptitude for a certain subject matter or sport, they may be eligible to win the award.
What is a Fellowship Grant?
Similar to a scholarship, in that there is no requirement for repayment, a fellowship grant is awarded
to the highest achieving students in a particular field. These award moneys are most often associated
with students who are attaining a post

Great Wave Off Kanagawa Essay
An art work has many elements and principles to it. These are known as elements and principles of
design. The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of
design that show how much the artist used them in his work.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the
best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the wave
(NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base of Mount
Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads the viewer s
eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved, upwards line of the
wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost personify the waves into
a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have no chance against the water
(Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The Great Wave off Kanagawa .
Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. For example, there are small
C shaped fingers of water that are thrown forward of the great curve as it arcs to its thunderous
completion (CC). The threatening wave is about to splash down and take over the boats ... Show more

Mount Fuji, and is suspended in time like a huge paw with multiple foam claws about to grasp the

Foreign Countries Should Not Help Out A Less Developed...
Throughout history, many have debated about whether a wealthier country (developed) should help
out a poor, less developed countries. The U.S. disbursed $33.2 billion $19 billion in economic
assistance to 184 countries and $14.2 billion in military assistance to 142 countries. (Forbes) Is it
beneficial for a more developed nations to help out a less developed country?
There are billions of dollars that developed countries give to the developing countries to say that they
are helping the poor and that they are bring the poor countries up out of the dirt. But studies have
shown that giving money alone does not help, it could actually make the country worse off. Foreign
countries should not give money to developing nations because the developing countries become too
reliant on the developed countries, it does not help the developing countries, and with money, comes
corruption. The better way for foreign aid to work which is to give technological aid. A quote from
Maimonides, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a
lifetime. This quote tells a tale of how society works and the importance of learning. This can be
applied to a multiple of things like how a developed country needs to teach another country how to
survive. The developed countries are just giving money and food instead of teaching the public about
how to grow food and how to have a stable economy. Countries around the world that depend on
foreign aid are now

Odometer Rollback Fraud Case
Purchase a used car and you hope that it is everything you want it to be. But hope is not a strategy and
unless you thoroughly check the condition of the car, there is a good chance that a hidden problem
may escape you. One of those hidden items could be the odometer reading. CARFAX research
indicates that nearly 200,000 cars have their odometers rolled back each year and currently there are
more than 1 million vehicles on the road with rolled back odometers. Odometer Rollback Fraud
Rolling back an odometer is not just wrong, it is fraud. Indeed, it is a federal crime, one that gives the

Organizational Culture and Structure
Organizational Culture and Structure
The structure of an organization determines the allocation of roles, regulations, and responsibilities,
and therefore builds a basis for the culture in an organization. There is a constant relationship between
organizational structure and organizational culture that provides a theme within an organization. Both
can be difficult to clearly define and distinguish when analyzing an organization. Organization culture
is a perspective into the company s personality; it provides descriptive values, principals, traditions,
and a way of doing things that effect how members view the organization (Robbins, DeCenzo,
Coulter, 2013). The organizational structure builds the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stories of innovation inspire creativity and help build the strength of an organization s culture. A
strong organizational culture holds key values that are shared with all members. It is the responsibility
of leaders to uphold an organization s culture to ensure that there is a proper foundation that binds the
structure.
Organizational Structure Any organization should have its own operating structure in order to reach
success. Organizational structure is defined as a hierarchy of people that determine roles of authority,
communications, and the duties of an organization (Robbins et al., 2013). Organizations must organize
their structure to meet the needs of that particular organization, and assure that it resembles the values
instilled by the organizational culture. The development of culture through an organization is a natural
process that is dependent upon the instilled values of the leaders and members in the organization (O
Neil, 2011). Leaders can still influence the culture by sticking to their values and implementing a
strong and effective organizational structure. There are several models that organizations can utilize to
structure the elements within the organization.
The structure of an organization can be divided into two generic organization structure models. Below

How Planetary Differentiation Affected The Layers Of The...
Have you ever wondered what the inside of the earth looks like? How it functions? How it was
formed? Unit 2 has been all about the interior Earth. We learned many things like how planetary
differentiation affected the layers of the earth. How people use seismic data to find the depth of the
layers. And what convection currents from inside the earth, create. We learned about the interior Earth
for Unit 2.
Planetary differentiation happened when the Earth first formed. The formation of this planet generated
heat from gravitational energy and the decay of radioactive elements. Scientists think that earth may
have become so hot that it melted. Denser materials sank toward the center, forming Earths dense, iron
core. Less dense material hardened over time to form Earth s outer layers the crust and mantle.

We learned that in 4th grade. We went more in depth with that this year. There are two types of Crust;
oceanic and continental. Oceanic is thinner and is mostly made of out basalt. Continental crust is
mostly made out of granite. This layer drifts slowly and is solid. The Earth has sub layers. The
lithosphere is part of the crust and uppermost Mantle. Next down is the Asthenosphere, where all the
tectonic plates are. Then the lowest part of the Mantle is called the Mesosphere. The Mantle is semi
solid and has convection currents that move the tectonic plates. It contains more iron than the layer
above. The outer core has convection currents that create the magnetic field. It s the swirly hot iron
that really causes it. This is the only layer that is liquid. The inner core is solid because of the great
pressure on it. It is extremely hot. The deeper you go the hotter it gets and iron increases. Two out of
the four main layers have convection

Designing a foolproof security for ad hoc network is a challenging task due to its unique
characteristics such as, lack of central authority, frequent topology changes, rapid node mobility,
shared radio channel and limited availability of resources
The wireless networks use air through the operation of a communications protocol. For
synchronization, wireless networks employ a carrier sense protocol similar to the common Ethernet
standard. This protocol enables a group of wireless computers to share the same frequency and space.
While the term wireless network may technically be used to refer to any type of network that is
wireless, the term is most commonly used to refer to a telecommunications network whose
interconnections between nodes is implemented without the use of wires, such as a computer network
(which is a type of communications network).
The Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has been involved in the development of
wireless LAN standards for the last seven years. Finally IEEE has evolved with a version of standard
to be used for wireless networks named as IEEE 802.11 in 1997.
Wireless networks refer to those networks that make use of radio waves or microwaves in order to
establish communication between the devices.

Introduction McCain Foods is a potato manufacturing company founded in Canada in 1957 by
Harrison and Wallace McCain. Currently, there are 41 sites on six continents employing 3,600 farmers
and 17,000 other workers across the world (McCain, 2015). McCain has had several external
environmental factors affecting their business including social, legal, economic, political, and
technological forces that they have had to overcome and adapt to. Due to these factors, McCain has
had numerous opportunities and threats that affect business strategy, philosophy, and initiatives. The
volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity of strategic planning and decision making and how it
affects McCain s strategy will be discussed below to show how McCain is handling changes in the
environment and their business outcomes. McCain s response to the external environment is important
for their success in business and competition within the food industry.
External Environment Strategic leadership and decision making occurs first with an assessment of the
external environment. Strategy can be compared to a plan, except it is broader in scale, long term in
nature, and surrounded by more uncertainties (Fernandes, 2009). Successful decision making and
assessments can shape an organizations strategy to better accommodate for threats, opportunities,
strengths and weaknesses. Strategic leadership and decision making are important qualities to have in
a leader. Therefore, following the SLEPT

Technology And The Computer System
The brain has the capacity to recall information that was forgotten for a long space of time, regardless
of deleted information; the brain experiences some kind of traces that leave sequel remaining in the
neuron. It is the same thing that happens in the computer system after information are deleted. For
instance, after an address is programmed on the GPS to retrieve and lead to a destination, the
information is automatically encoded and released to track the direction leading to the desired address.
Just like the human brain, the computer has the capacity to capture and memorize multiple
information, and may proceed by a rapid retention after some information are deleted. It seems like
when an information is erased from the computer, it attempts to build or download new program to
prevent the definite dilution or process to save the deleted information through new programs.
Retrospection to the GPS, it has the option to retain many destination once input to it systematic
artificial brain or memory; the memorization can be kept for a long time as long as the machine and its
mechanism would remain active in terms of operation. By determination, if you happen to delete
every single encoded information from the GPS, even though the system is renewed, you will noticed
that the machine is still remembering some of the previous deleted addresses. In reality, the human

The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid
I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self
made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man
states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit.
This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where
anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or
Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an
economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can
harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the
Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of
their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular
model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of
the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealth from Franklin s
ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of
community and individual growth, and not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States
Representative Alney McLean, used the idea of the self made man to encourage people to better

....βk are coefficients of the k predictor variables (k = 7 in this model). The coefficients indicate how
the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant.
The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are
considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables,
indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix).
One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped;
representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot shows
that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than the total
range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor variables on
price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds falling under a very
small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the range of $1856 to
$3145.
As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the model
best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor.
2. Partial Level Level Model (Carat):
Considering the assumption made above, the next model regresses price on all the variables, but only
for diamonds from wholesalers 1 and 2. It

Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, By...
My interpretation of the two poems, And Death Shall Have No Dominion and Do Not Go Gentle into
That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, significantly align with the view that there is an inherent tension
between life and death which is explored through imagery in Dylan Thomas poetry. This is because of
the ideas explored in the poems, death should have no dominion/control/authority and that death is the
fate of all humans. Dylan Thomas illustrates these ideas by using poetic techniques, including
imagery.

The idea of death being the fate of all humans is expressed in this poem, it depicts the tension between
life and death. Dylan Thomas uses parallelism, symbolism and oxymorons to express this idea. Dylan
Thomas illustrates the idea of death being the fate of all humans by using parallelism. Thomas uses
parallelism in each stanza when naming the type of men; wise men, good men, wild men and grave
men. Thomas states that all these men will fall into death in the end. The symbolism here expresses
the idea of death being the fate for all humans. The line Old age should burn and rave close of day
symbolises the idea. This is because close of day symbolises death and old age is a metonymy. The
use of poetic devices here creates vivid images of life and death. In the last stanza, Thomas knows that
death is the fate of his father, Curse, bless, me now with with your fierce tears, I pray. The two
oxymorons here cure, bless and fierce tears give enrichment to the tension of life and death. The

Georgia s defense was great, because of it was the military buffer between Florida and South Carolina.

The economy worked well, because of mercantilism. Mercantilism was a good thing for Georgia,
because of Savannah s port. At Savannah s port, all kinds of people would come and trade for some of

first settlers brought silk and wine grapes, hoping that the climate would be amenable to the framing
of both. This states that the silk and wine grapes succeeded and helped Georgia s economy thrive. The
economy also exceeded because the native Americans would trade deerskins and other items to the
merchants. Britain also took raw goods and produced, manufactured items which they would ship
back to Georgia to use and trade. In the second passage, it said, England economically benefit through
the natural resources and raw materials that were sent by. This proves that England took the resources
from Georgia. In conclusion, only two of the reasons for the colonization of Georgia were

Crop rotation is a systematic approach to choosing which crop to plant where in your vegetable garden
from one year to the next. The goals of crop rotation are to help manage soil fertility and to help

on. This process is useful because with this method saves sustainability to other plants as
irreconcilable to trying to buy products to do the same thing. Best results for the plant to be
progressing is to be watched by farmers. This ensures the best crops to mature and grow. One of the
organic fertilizers the farmer uses is milorganite. Milorganite is one of the oldest branded fertilizers on
the market today. It is composed of heat dried microbes that have digested the organic matter in
wastewater. Milorganite is manufactured by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. This
fertilizer is slow burned and is full of nitrogen. Being at the farm is not a lot of research on milorganite
from sources outside the company. This process may be better left naturally because the process still
requires man made input and output. This uses viable resources. There is an article that I found
interesting and has more background about milorganite named Promoting Forest Recovery on a
Surface Mine Site With Nutritional Amendments. Two conventional fertilizers with the former
featuring urea as the predominant N source while that for the latter was exclusively ammoniacal and
nitrate forms; and Milorganite 6 2 0 + Iron, an organic amendment derived from municipal biosolids.

Both poems have similar themes and both speakers describe a particular character found in both
stories. Both poems have a beautiful woman as its main character and their themes describe the
relationship between two lovers. In My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover, Robert Browning
conveys two distinct portraits depicting the love shared between two people. The qualities of beauty,

influence death has upon the relationship shared by two lovers.
In My Last Duchess, the speaker describes a specific painting to the reader. It is a portrait of the Duke
s late wife. The speaker directs the reader s attention to the Duchess s passionate responses given not
only to the Duke, but also to many other men who admire her beauty. The artist conveys this lady s
charming and flirtatious personality. The Duchess had many admirers that competed for her attention.
Her rare beauty and flirtatious manner attracted many admirers. Her facial features express her passion
and gratitude towards the men that competed for her attention. She had a teasing and playful quality,
which she used to make the Duke jealous of the men attracted to her beauty. The Duke spoke

Summary Of Pablo Neruda s Ode To A Large Tuna In The Market
Pablo Neruda s Ode to a Large Tuna in the Market recalls the unfortunate demise of a beautiful
creature, with seeing amazing visuals of the vast oceans and the depths of the sea , is found dead
surrounded by lettuces , carrots , grapes , and among the vegetables , ready to be sold. The subject, a
tuna, is a simple, everyday food item that most overpass without giving much thought. Contrary, Pablo
is known for his odd narration of subjects most would never attend towards, such as Ode to an
Artichoke or Ode to Salt. Furthermore, publicly displaying his appreciation for life and all the gifts it
has to offer. Consequently, with its simplistic nature, Pablo was able to construct an enticing, debonair
narration that allowed for great interest and contentment through its simplistic format, imagery,
diction, and relation with the audience. Ode to a Large Tuna in the Market has a simple structure, with
lines only composing of a few words. Lines such as ocean , seed , and depths are all examples. The
short lines, sometimes only assembled of one word, allows for a greater heed and understanding of the
overall contextual meaning. The simplistic words and lines allow for anyone to grasp the amazing
narration of what is being conveyed. Moreover, lines which communicate one thought or idea,
progressively atrophies, inferring an importance with each and every idea that s is being illustrated.
The poem demonstrates this idea with the statement, winged fins / windmilling / in

  • 2. Centervale Police Patrol All police departments grapple with the challenge of allocating their limited resources to meet to meet law enforcement needs of the communities they serve. Crucial to alleviating the cost pressures the departments face is patrol force allocation. Most of the budgets go to salaries and expenses, such as fringe benefits, which mean that increases in personnel utilization efficiencies would result in dollar savings. As such, it is the duty of police chiefs to determine what the patrols will look like regarding when and where the patrols will take place. This paper, thus, seeks to outline how the Centervale Police Department should allocate patrol resources to best serve the needs of Centervale. Patrols are meant to eliminate criminal opportunities by creating an impression of presence in the community. However, patrols do not decrease an individual s desire to break the law but by diminishing the opportunities to commit crime, they promote a sense of safety to residents. As the assistant chief in the Centervale Police Department, CPD, one would develop a strategy that caters for both sides of the railroad tracks with fairness although with an emphasis on the crime prone north. Directed patrols in Centervale would use hot spot policing approach by increasing the presence of uniforms in the northern side of the railroad tracks, where crime is most prevalent at night. • 8. The Common Raccoon ( P. Lotor The common raccoon (P. lotor) has been said to be one of the most widespread urban mammalian carnivores. Characterised by its fox like face, bushy striped tail, and unmistakable mask of dark patches around their eyes, the growing population of urban raccoons has become somewhat of an epidemic. These small creatures are known for their relatively high intellect, enabling them to access human resources. Raccoons are omnivores, and have been consistently observed to eat virtually anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and secondary consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social structure relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal behaviors. Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach adolescence, at which time they leave), or an individual. They are notorious carriers of disease, can outcompete native species, and can be quite aggressive when confronted by humans. For these reasons and more, the urban raccoon is considered a pest, and in many areas there have been countless efforts to control their populations (Gehrt, S. D., et. al., 2010, Pg. 35 47). Juxtaposition In A Modern Proposal Swift when faced with a humanitarian crisis, a tyrannical English Empire, and a strong divide between social classes, uses his pent up agitation to develop a piece of satire which both compels and shocks those who read his work. A Modern Proposal is centered around the idea of cannibalism. In Swift s reformation of Irish society a new division of laborers would be created labeled breeders . These breeders would raise infants to the ripe age of one, and then sell them to the wealthy to be slaughtered, served and possibly made into apparel. Throughout his proposal Swift uses comic juxtaposition and grotesque elements to further convey his criticism of Ireland. By comparing the lower class breeders and their children to animals, Swift uses comic juxtaposition to hone in on the notion that the impoverished people in society have long been denied the humanity the wealthy pride themselves on. He uses humor and an unreliable narrator to convey social satire in the novel to reflect the flaws of society toward in the antebellum south. The novel was published in 1884, just after slavery was abolished in 1865. Needless to say, racism was prevalent and although slavery was outlawed, colored people did not have equal rights to white people. African Americans across the country were still treated disrespectfully, beaten, and often murdered. With the outlawing of slavery in the south, racism was much more common there than in the north. • 20. Reaction Temperature And The Rate Of Reaction Discussion The experiment investigated the relationship between temperature and the rate of reaction for the reaction of iron (III) nitrate with sodium thiosulfate. The results show that the rate of iron (III) reacting forming iron (II) increases as the temperature of the solutions increases. Table 1 shows that when the temperature of the reactants is 4℃, it takes 54.173 seconds for the reaction to occur to the stage that the cross to appears. The time taken for the solution to reach the same transparency reduces to 16.37 seconds when the temperature is 25℃ and to 2.09 seconds when the temperature is 65℃. The line of best fit in Graph 1 suggests that there is an inverse relationship between temperature and reaction time. This indicates that as the temperature increases, the rate of reaction also increases. The results for the rate of reaction, as seen in Table 2, suggest that as the temperature increases, the rate of reaction increases at a progressively greater rate. When the temperature increases 21℃ from 4℃ to 25℃, the rate of reaction increases from 1.846 s 1 to 6.1100 s 1 while a similar increase in temperature from 25℃ to 65℃ has a much more significant difference in the rate of reaction: 47.85s 1 at 65℃. This supports the hypothesis, as the rate of reaction increases as the temperature increases. According to collision theory, increasing the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the particles in the solution. This allows both a net increase in the energy ... The print The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has many elements and principles of design that show how much the artist used them in his work. The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai has all the elements of design. For example, one of the best aspects of the print is Hokusai s utilization of line to create both motion and space in the wave (NGA). The curves of the wave and body of one boat drop just low enough to allow the base of Mount Fuji to be visible, and the white top of the great wave creates a diagonal line that leads the viewer s eye directly to the peak of the mountain top (Harris). The dramatically curved, upwards line of the wave frames the mountain, whilst the jagged ends act as claws which almost personify the waves into a hunter grasping at its prey; the frail, delicate fishing boats seem to have no chance against the water (Ladkin). There are many ways in which Hokusai uses line in The Great Wave off Kanagawa . Another element of design that Hokusai uses in The Great Wave is shape. A strong organizational culture holds key values that are shared with all members. It is the responsibility of leaders to uphold an organization s culture to ensure that there is a proper foundation that binds the structure. Organizational Structure Any organization should have its own operating structure in order to reach success. Organizational structure is defined as a hierarchy of people that determine roles of authority, communications, and the duties of an organization (Robbins et al., 2013). Organizations must organize their structure to meet the needs of that particular organization, and assure that it resembles the values instilled by the organizational culture. The development of culture through an organization is a natural process that is dependent upon the instilled values of the leaders and members in the organization (O Neil, 2011). Leaders can still influence the culture by sticking to their values and implementing a strong and effective organizational structure. There are several models that organizations can utilize to structure the elements within the organization. The structure of an organization can be divided into two generic organization structure models. Below is a chart as presented by Robbins et al. (2013) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Designing a foolproof security for ad hoc network is a challenging task due to its unique characteristics such as, lack of central authority, frequent topology changes, rapid node mobility, shared radio channel and limited availability of resources The wireless networks use air through the operation of a communications protocol. For synchronization, wireless networks employ a carrier sense protocol similar to the common Ethernet standard. This protocol enables a group of wireless computers to share the same frequency and space. While the term wireless network may technically be used to refer to any type of network that is wireless, the term is most commonly used to refer to a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes is implemented without the use of wires, such as a computer network (which is a type of communications network). • 38. The Idea Of The Self-Made Man By Pamela Laid I found Pamela Laird s essay very interesting, and while I ve never subscribed to the idea of a self made man , I never considered how the notion could be harmful. The concept of the self made man states that most people can get where they want to be with hard work and a good entrepreneurial spirit. This idea exemplifies the idea of the American Dream, and creates the illusion of an America where anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or economic background could become the next Steve Jobs or Andrew Carnegie. Laird argues that self made success can, at least in part, be attributed to an economic, political or social advantage. She makes an excellent argument on how individualism can harm both the individual and the collective. The idea of the self made man can first be seen during the Protestant Reformation, where people begin to drift away from the idea that they aren t in control of their circumstances, which were instead dependent on God. Benjamin Franklin was a very popular model of self made success which inspires entrepreneurs even today. Thomas Mellon, the founder of the Mellon Bank, looked up to Franklin for his ambition and aimed to amass wealth from Franklin s ideas of self improvement. However, Franklin spoke about self improvement for the purpose of community and individual growth, and not for material gain. Franklin, along with United States Representative Alney McLean, used the idea of the self made man to encourage people to better themselves, gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The coefficients indicate how the price changes by a unit change in any variable, keeping rest of the variables constant. The output shows that cut, polish and certification have t stats and corresponding p values that are considerably greater than 0.05 (significance level). A stepwise regression drops these variables, indicating that they are not a good fit for the model (Appendix). One reason might be that the scatterplot of price vs. carat shows observations being clumped; representing the three different wholesalers (Appendix). Making inferences on this scatterplot shows that wholesaler 3 carries diamonds in the range of $160 to $665, significantly lower than the total range. These observations might lead to inaccurate prediction of the effect of predictor variables on price. Also, it can be seen from the scatterplot that wholesaler 1 deals in diamonds falling under a very small interval of $3000 to $3091, while the ones from wholesaler 2 fall in the range of $1856 to $3145. As a result, this paper makes an assumption that only data from wholesalers 1 and 2 will fit the model best, in terms of finding the correct diamond for the professor. 2.
